Fenerbahce are interested in Manchester United defender Daley Blind, and could launch a bid to sign him in January. The versatile Dutchman has struggled for regular football at Old Trafford this season, having played just 270 minutes in the Premier League and could be tempted by a move away. (Hurriyet)

PSG will make a move for Manchester City target Alexis Sanchez when his Arsenal contract expires in the summer. PSG star Neymar is reportedly keen to play alongside the Chilean, who came close to leaving the Emirates Stadium in the summer for City.

PSG are keen to offload both Chelsea transfer target Edinson Cavani and Julian Draxler this summer in order to complete the deal. (Le Parisien)

Adrien Rabiot is another player who could be on his way out of the French capital after the PSG midfielder admitted he would “love” to play in the Premier League.

The Arsenal transfer target, 22, has started every match for Unai Emery’s side this season and is under contract until 2019, but indicated he would like to play abroad in the future and admitted he grew up supporting Liverpool. (RMC)

Lucas Moura has been advised by former Chelsea and PSG defender Alex to leave the French club and join Arsenal. The Brazil forward, 25, has found starting opportunities hard to come by at the Parc des Princes this season following the arrivals of Neymar and Kylian Mbappé.

He has made just two substitute appearances so far and the former Brazil international has urged him to join the Gunners because their technical, passing football would suit his style. (L’Equipe)

Real Madrid could make a move for Cavani next summer. The 30-year-old scored 49 goals in 50 games last season and was named Ligue 1 Player of the Year. But with PSG eager to avoid potential Financial Fair Play punishment having splashed an enormous amount to bring Neymar to the club in the summer, the Uruguayan could be on the move. (Don Balon)

Cristiano Ronaldo has urged Real Madrid president Florentino Perez to sign West Ham target William Carvalho. The 25-year-old Portugal international has been near a Sporting Lisbon exit for some time and his compatriot believes the Santiago Bernabeu is the perfect stage for the next step in his career. (Don Balon)

Tottenham and Liverpool are both keen on signing Inter Milan midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia, who is currently on loan at Valencia. The 24-year-old has impressed so far in Spain and the Premier League pair have sent scouts to keep a close eye on the Frenchman’s progress. (Tuttomercatoweb)

AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak top PSG’s wishlist this summer. While Oblak is said to be the number one target, PSG have a strong relationship with Mino Raiola, Donnarumma’s agent.

If Milan fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League, Raiola may try to persuade his client to part ways with the Rossoneri with plenty of clubs aware of his talent. (Calciomercato)

Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne has revealed that Barcelona wanted to sign him in the summer. The Italy international was linked with a move to the Camp Nou following Neymar’s departure but stayed at the San Paolo, where he has been a key feature for Maurizio Sarri’s table-topping side this season.

Insigne, who insisted he is proud to have stayed at Napoli, did admit that the idea of playing alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez appealed to him. (Rai Sport)

Playing In Bolivia Was “Inhumane” – Neymar

Featured Image

Neymar has blasted the conditions that Brazil faced during their 2018 World Cup qualifier against Bolivia on Thursday night.

Brazil, who have already booked their spot at next summer’s tournament, played out a goalless draw with Bolivia at the Estadio Hernando Siles in La Paz.

The Brazilian players needed oxygen masks at full time of the match, which took place almost 12,000 feet above sea level.

Neymar, who played the full 90 minutes of the South American clash, posted on Instagram: “Inhuman to play in such conditions, field, altitude, ball… everything bad. But we were happy for the performance of the team even with these conditions.”

Andres Iniesta Signs Lifetime Contract With Barcelona

Featured Image

Andres Iniesta have agreed to a deal that will keep the midfielder at Barcelona for the remainder of his career.

Andres Iniesta’s new contract is a deal “for life”, according to the club.

Iniesta is a one man club having just played for Barcelona – winning eight La Liga titles and the Champions League four times.

A club statement said: “Andres Iniesta signed a lifetime contract with FC Barcelona on Friday, in a deal that will keep him at the club for the rest of his career.”

‘Today is a very special day for me, one of many here for the simple fact I’m continuing at this place which is my home, which means I can continue to aspire to win things for this club, my club,’ Iniesta said on Friday after signing the new deal.

‘This is the club where I grew up and evolved and I feel privileged to be its captain.’

The deal, which has no expiry date, allows Iniesta to decide of his own accord when he will stop playing for Barca and gives him the opportunity to remain with the club in another capacity when he decides to hang up his boots.

‘After 118 years of history this is the first time the club has given someone a contract for life, this is an exceptional contract for an exceptional player,’ Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu said.

‘Andres Iniesta has been part of this club since 2002 and won so many things. This golden era needs to continue and that’s why we’ve signed this deal. This is a deal that will delight all Barca fans and will be a reference for future players. We’ve always said: look up to Andres, not just his talent or style of play but his way of being.’

Bayern Munich Appoint Jupp Heynckes As Manager Until The End Of The Season

Featured Image

Bayern Munich have appointed Jupp Heynckes as head coach.

Jupp Heynckes retired from football altogether following the 2012/13 season, in which he led Bayern Munich to an unprecedented treble of Bundesliga, DFB Cup and UEFA Champions League titles.

That haul also helped him scoop the FIFA World Coach of the Year award in 2013.

Former manager Carlo Ancelotti was relieved of his duties in the wake of Bayern’s disappointing start to the current campaign, with a 3-0 defeat away to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League proving to be the final straw for the club’s hierarchy.

Assistant coach Willy Sagnol took over the reins of first-team for Matchday 7, a 2-2 draw away to Hertha Berlin that leaves them five points behind Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund.

This will be Heynckes’ fourth spell at the club, having previously been at the helm from 1987-1991, for a five-game spell in 2009, and again from 2011-2013.

Monkey Pox Outbreak: Stay Away From Bushmeat – Federal Ministry Of Health

Featured Image

The Federal Ministry of Health has advised Nigerians to stay away from eating bushmeat and monkeys as doing so would be at the risk of contracting the Monkey Pox disease.

No fewer than 10 persons have reportedly been quarantined in Bayelsa as a result of the virus. The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, said this in a statement which was read by the Director, Media and Public Relations in the ministry, Mrs. Boade Akinola, on Thursday.

He said the disease neither had a cure nor a vaccine, noting, however, that there was no cause for alarm as it was mild.

Part of the statement read, “He (Adewole) said the virus was mild and there was no known treatment and no preventive vaccines, hence the public should be at alert and avoid crowded places as much as possible. He advised the public to avoid eating dead animals, bushmeat and particularly bush monkeys.”

The minister also revealed that test samples had been sent to the World Health Organisation (laboratory) in Senegal but the result was still being awaited.

Speaking on the symptoms, he added that Nigerians who had symptoms of fever, back pain and rashes resembling chicken pox, should report to the hospital. The statement added, “The symptoms include headache, fever, back pains and in advanced cases, rashes bigger than those caused by chicken pox.”

NNPC Scandal: Curiosity As Buhari, Kachikwu Closed Door Meeting Ends

Featured Image

There was a show of curiosity among pressmen on Friday at the end of the meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and the Minister of State For petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu.

The apparently looking journalists were said to be interested in the outcome of the meeting between the president and the minister.

NNPC Scandal: Buhari Close Door Meeting With Kachikwu Over

Ibe Kachikwu arrives Presidential Villa for a meeting with Buhari Photo: Sahara Reporters

It was learnt that the two men were expected to discuss the minister’s memo to the president, in which he accused the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Maikanti Baru, of corruption.

In the petition, Kachikwu had alleged that Baru was sidelining him and the NNPC board from important decisions affecting the corporation.

Kachikwu had also accused Baru of insubordination, claiming he awarded contracts without due process.

He had in the memo said: “That you save the office of the Minister of State from further humiliation and disrespect by compelling all parastatals to submit to oversight regulatory mandate and proper supervision which I am supposed to manage on your behalf.

“You kindly instruct the GMD to effectively leave NNPC to run as a proper institution and report along due process lines to the Board and that Your Excellency instructs that all reviews be done with the Minister of State prior to your decision.

“That to set the right examples, you approve that the recently announced reorganisation changes be suspended until the GMD, myself and the board have made relevant input to same.”

360nobs had earlier reported that the meeting is expected to start past 11 a.m.

However, after the meeting, it was gathered that Mr. Kachikwu declined to speak to journalists at the presidential villa.

As soon as the minister emerged from the meeting at about 12:45 p.m., he was asked by several journalists what they discussed.

Mr. Kachikwu simply said “no comment” before leaving the premises.

CBN Is Not Illegally Printing Money To Support FG – VP Osinbajo

Featured Image

The Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has dismissed the rumors that have been circulating recently claiming that the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, was printing money to support the Federal Government.

The question was directed at the Vice President at the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room Dialogue in Abuja, and he described the claim as completely “absurd”. Osinbajo, however, acknowledged that the CBN had intervened in the agricultural sector, but noted that the measure was not illegal and the amount expended was not significant.

A member of the CBN’s monetary policy committee, MPC, was quoted in a leaked minutes of meeting as saying the apex bank was providing a “piggy bank” service to the federal government.

Osinbajo replied “That is certainly false. I think it is very sad that this is being circulated. I think the whole idea that that the CBN is printing money to support government is completely absurd. And the context on which it was accredited to the person I think it was completely misunderstood.”

“If you look at our M1, M2, the amount of money being circulated is within appropriate limits. And inflation has continued to go down month by month. Honestly, if there is money out there way beyond limit then we should expect that inflation will begin to go up. But that is not the case. Of course, there has been a firm-up on government borrowing and that is significant and we have been very upfront about what we are doing.”

“The DMO (Debt Management Office) is required to publish the debt profile of government regularly and only three weeks ago the last debt profile was published. The government has largely funded its activities through the treasury bills.”

“There is no law that says the CBN should not intervene in agriculture. I personally believe that interventions are important especially in areas that government has funds. But how much has CBN expended? So far on the anchors borrowers programme (ABP), it has expended N52 billion and that is not a significant amount of money. The budget is about N7 trillion.”

The suspension slammed on the Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Prof Usman Yusuf, has been extended indefinitely by the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole.

Mr. Yusuf has been on three months suspension since July 6, based on the directive of the health minister to allow for fair and uninterrupted investigation of the various allegations levied against the NHIS boss.

While suspending the NHIS Chief, Adewole had set up a committee to investigate him with respect to the fraud charges leveled against him in a series of petitions.

Jorge Sampaoli is certain of Argentina qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, despite their goalless draw against Peru.

Messi was golden in the match, but Argentina could not penetrate Peru, as the match ended in a stalemate.

The result means Argentina sits sixth on the table, outside of CONMEBOL qualification spot . But Sampaoli is confident of qualifying, as they play Ecuador next and Colombia face Peru, who are fourth and fifth respectively.

“I am still confident that we will be at the World Cup,” he told a news conference.

“Today was a very good game. We just missed a goal. I am very hopeful and excited about what is coming.

Ibe Kachikwu’s NNPC Scandal Proves Abami Eda Truly Lives On

Featured Image

Ibe Kachikwu’s NNPC Scandal Proves Abami Eda Truly Lives On By Anthony Ademiluyi

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

The Afrobeat Maestro, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti was synonymous with the fight against the hydra-headed monster of corruption using the instrumentality of music. Asserting himself with pristine authority on the stage, he railed against the ills of the society in a manner that his message has now become evergreen and earned him the status of a modern day, African Nostradamus.

This piece was written by Anthony Aemiluyi. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of

In one of his hit songs directed against the then Olusegun Obasanjo led military administration, he blasted the then Petroleum Minister, Colonel Muhammadu Buhari as he then was for the disappearance of 2.8 billion naira of the nation’s oil revenue. Let’s recall that at the time the naira was at par with the British pound and had much more value than the American dollar so that sum was rather humongous. He also drew attention to the futility of probe panels whose sittings at taxpayers’ expense never resolved the puzzles. The whereabout of the 2.8 billion naira remained unresolved till date in the manner reminiscent of VIP murders in the country.

NNPC Crisis: Buhari To Meet With Kachikwu On Friday

Dr Ibe Kachikwu, the Minister of State for Petroleum raised an alarm at his sidelining in the affairs of the state-owned Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) by the Group Managing Director, Dr. Maikanti Baru. He went on to allege that the latter awarded a whopping $26 billion juicy contract without following due process. Kachikwu, the hitherto egg head groomed by Harvard University has been rendered so in effete that he has been allegedly denied access to Buhari since his return from his medical vacation in England. He also went on to say that many important appointments were made without consultation with the board. He heard about them like every other Nigerian. The GMD hardly attends board meetings and he has entrenched a culture of fear in the parastatal that lays the golden egg.

So many issues arise from this Kachikwu scream.

Baru is accountable to Buhari who doubles as Petroleum Minister and the Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari who is also a member of the NNPC board. Could he have awarded such a huge contract unilaterally? Is he the sole signatory to NNPC contracts?

Could it be possible that Buhari is in the know? Could Kachikwu be held in contempt as he comes from a less favoured tribe? Let’s look at the way and manner he was removed as the helmsman of the NNPC last year to pave way for the surreptitious northern agenda. Is he just being tolerated for the sake of the now much discredited federal character?

Kachikwu Writes Buhari; Accuses NNPC GMD Baru Of Insubordination

Why is there a conspiratorial silence from the Presidency on this matter since Baru is an appointee of the President? The administration came to power on the wavecrest of the change slogan which promised to be a departure from the old order of corruption and impunity, why hasn’t Baru been asked to publicly state his side of the story in a government that claims to have zero tolerance for corruption?

Why is there a sense of dejavu that Buhari is the petroleum minister now that $26 billion has been allegedly mismanaged? Fela’s gift for prophecy seems to be sealed here. It is also coincidental that this year marks the twentieth anniversary of his departure from mother earth.

The fight against corruption has become a gargantuan joke as no single successful prosecution has been recorded so far. The Babachir Lawal and Ayodele Oke’s alleged corruption saga still remain puzzles with no prosecutions or the cases even being conclusive yet. The wave of the public opinion is fast swinging against the idea that Buhari is incorruptible with disillusion fast setting in. Some of his critics even went as far as vehemently criticizing his time as Chairman of the defunct Petroleum Trust Fund and one wonders why his handling of the petroleum sector always tends to raise a lot of dust.

It is commendable that the Senate has risen up to the occasion by inaugurating a committee to probe the allegations raised by Kachikwu headed by former Sokoto State Governor, Senator Aliyu Wamakko. While the act is cheering news, we hope that the recommendations see the light of day as many probe committees just make a lot of noise with no results at the end of the day. We remember with the power probe committee headed by Hon Ndudi Elumelu which revealed the mind-boggling corruption in that sector but at the end of the day, the hunter became the hunted as the former reps member and some committee members were equally accused of corruption with their cases inconclusive.

Senate Probes NNPC GMD Baru Over Kachikwu’s Allegations

Buhari must rise up with precision and deal ruthlessly with these heart-wrenching corruption allegations and Baru shouldn’t be spared if found culpable.

In line with the whistleblower policy, we watch with bated breath if Kachikwu would indeed be a recipient.

Tabarez: Uruguay Still In A Good Position To Qualify

Featured Image

Uruguay head coach , Oscar Tabarez is satisfied with the position of his side, after their stalemate against Venezuela.

Uruguay lacked their usual bite in attack, and produced a limp display in San Cristobal and had to settle for a goalless draw.

Uruguay currently sit second on the table and Tabarez is pleased with their position ahead of their final match against Bolivia.

“We are in a home game to get what we want, which is to go to Russia,” Tabarez said.

“We came here to try to win,” he said. “I’ve had four campaigns already, I never went to draw a match.

“A 0-0 leaves us with possibilities and that is important.

“Without playing well according to the potential we have, in the end we generated chances. We improved in midfield.”

Low Pleased With Germany’s Qualification

Featured Image

Joachim Low has lauded his men for their showing in the 3-1 win over Northern Ireland, as Germany secured qualification for next year’s world cup.

The reigning champions have won nine straight qualifying matches and have ensured their qualification, finishing top of their group.

Sebastian Rudy opened the scoring for Germany in the second minute, before Wagner doubled that lead in the 21st minute. And although Northern Ireland scored in the closing stages, it was a consolation as it came after Kimmich’s goal for Die Meinschaft.

“I am satisfied,” Low told reporters afterwards in Belfast.

“We doubled the lead very quickly. In the Czech Republic we took the lead early too but then lost control. That did not happen today.

“We felt on the pitch that we had everything under control in the second half. That’s when we slowed down a little bit.”

Nigeria Releases N100 Billion Sukuk Bond Proceeds For 25 Road Projects

The Nigerian government on Thursday released the proceeds of the N100 billion Sukuk bond to 25 key economic road projects of the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing across the country.

The Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, can be seen (in the photo above) handing over the N100 billion proceeds cheque to the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola in Abuja.

The federal government had issued the debut Sovereign Sukuk of N100 billion in September 2017, which was successfully completed last week. The Sukuk bond has a tenor of seven years.

Mrs. Adeosun, who disclosed that the offer was oversubscribed to the tune of N105.87 billion, said the milestone was a sign of confidence on the Nigerian economy and the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

She added that the Sukuk proceeds would unlock the potentials of Nigeria.

“This is the first Sukuk bond issuance for Nigeria. It is about financial inclusion and deepening of our financial markets.

“The proceeds will be used to further support government capital spending for 2017 – the construction and rehabilitation of 25 key economic roads across the six geo-political zones of the country.

“The roads will ease commuting, spur economic activities across the country and further close our infrastructural gap,” the minister stated.

Each of the geo-political zones of the country is expected to receive the sum of N16.67 billion for road projects in their respective zones.

The North-central and South-south zones accounted for five each of the 25 key economic road projects, while the North-east, North-west and South-east have four road projects each.

Three projects are to receive funding from the Sovereign Sukuk proceeds in the South-west zone.

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Fashola, had earlier lauded the finance minister, the Director-General of Debt Management Office, Patience Oniha, and the financial advisers for the bond issuance for their painstaking efforts realising the milestone.

The minister also assured the ministry’s contractors that the federal government was committed to the funding of its infrastructural projects across the country.

The representative of the contractors, Mousa Nahkia, expressed the contractors’ gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari, Mrs. Adeosun and Mr. Fashola for “working day and night to make this a reality”.

“Nobody can hide our smiles today, we believe in this country and its economy. This is really a great development and accomplishment We really want to thank President Muhammadu Buhari, the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun and the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, for increasing our confidence in this country and the federal government,” stated Mr. Nahkia, who is the Managing Director of RCC Construction Company.

Monkeypox Disease: FG Warns Nigerians To Avoid Eating Bushmeat, Dead Animals

Featured Image

The federal government has cautioned Nigerians to avoid eating monkeys, bushmeat and dead animals so as to avoid exposure to the deadly viral epidemic “Monkeypox disease”.

Yesterday, 360nobs reported that at least 10 persons have been infected and quarantined in Bayelsa as a result of the virus, while 49 others alleged to have come in contact with the infected persons are under surveillance.

In a statement issued on behalf of the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, by the Director, Media and Public Relations in the ministry, Mrs. Boade Akinola, on Thursday, the minister said the disease neither had a cure nor a vaccine, noting, however, that there was no cause for alarm as it was mild.

The statement read: “He (Adewole) said the virus was mild and there was no known treatment and no preventive vaccines, hence the public should be at alert and avoid crowded places as much as possible.

“He advised the public to avoid eating dead animals, bushmeat and particularly bush monkeys.”

Symptoms of the disease include headache, fever, back pains and in advanced cases, rashes bigger than those caused by chicken pox.

The minister urged anyone with the symptoms to immediately report to the nearest health facility, while advising health workers to maintain a high index of suspicion and observe safety precautions.

Prof. Adewole also revealed that test samples had been sent to the World Health Organisation (laboratory) in Senegal but the result was still being awaited.

The World Health Organisation, had before now, described monkeypox as a rare disease that occurs primarily in remote parts of Central and West Africa, near tropical rainforests.

“The monkeypox virus can cause a fatal illness in humans and, although it is similar to human smallpox which has been eradicated, it is much milder,” WHO had said.
