Valverde: Messi Will Not Be Rested

Featured Image

Ernesto Valverde has stated that Barcelona forward, Lionel Messi will not be rested regardless of the amount of matches he has played.

The Argentina forward has played in all 11 of Barcelona’s matches this season and has played for Argentina in all their qualifying games.

Messi was instrumental in Argentina qualifying for the World Cup, scoring all three goals as Argentina beat Ecuador 3-1. Despite his busy schedule, Valverde says he will not be rested.

“Messi had his pre-season which was normal – sometimes the players come off World Cups and other tournaments,” Valverde explained at his pre-match media conference.

“There are players who come late to the pre-season, but for him it was normal in that respect.

“I think he is strong at the moment and we through it was important for him to help us early on this season.

“We will look at it as the season goes on, but for now it is good idea for us that he keeps playing.”

“His perpetual competitiveness [impresses me most],” said Valverde.

“You know that he can resolve any game. He is the best player in the world, he knows that, and it is tough to carry that weight on your shoulders every day.

“It is not just one day, it’s today, tomorrow, the next day – it is an unbelievable level of competitiveness he has.”

Koeman Does Not Want Netherlands Job

Ronald Koeman has stated he does not want to replace Dick Adcocaat as Netherlands manager and will stay on with Everton.

Netherlands failed to qualify for the World Cup and missed out on a playoff berth to Sweden, Dick Adcocaat is expected to leave his position after his failure.

Koeman has been named as a possible replacement, with the KNVB interested in his services, but the Dutch manager has no designs on leaving Everton.

“I am not surprised they put my name in because they did the same some years ago,” he told reporters.

“I am not surprised. But I am Everton manager. That’s the most important and nothing else.

“It’s not realistic now because we have other business to do with Everton.”

“We’ve lost quality in Netherlands,” he continued. “We have no real top European players left. Arjen Robben was maybe the last and he has stopped.

“We have good talents, but they leave Netherlands too quickly and we must change that.

“Belgium and Germany changed a lot of things and we have to as well. But we’ll come back because we’ve always had good players.”

Jurgen Klopp Angry At England For Playing Jordan Henderson Against Lithuania

Featured Image

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has criticised Gareth Southgate’s use of Jordan Henderson during the international break and claimed it made “no sense” to play the Liverpool captain against Lithuania.

Jordan Henderson played the entirety of England’s World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and Lithuania, much to the anger of Jurgen Klopp , who believes the midfielder’s recent injury problems should have seen him rested

“England played a friendly game on an artificial surface – it was a qualification game but they had already qualified – and I was not happy that Hendo was on the pitch to be honest with all the problems he’s had in the past,” Klopp said. “It made no sense. We [club managers] cannot be involved in this. They [international managers] all make their own decisions.

Sometimes I really wish we could have had more time to make preparations for such an important game. But is our job and the same for the other team so let’s go.”

Klopp will be without the influential Sadio Mané against United, and for the next six weeks, after the Senegal striker suffered a hamstring injury on international duty.

“Obviously we can still play football without Sadio as we have had to do this in the past – much more than we would have wanted,” the manager said. “He is the highest-quality player and has been very unlucky with injury.

A lot of players in this international break from different teams had injuries – it is a big problem with change of training and a different rhythm. That is always a problem and you hope nothing will happen. On this occasion it was Sadio but no one else thankfully. We can play without him even if we would love to have him in the lineup.”

Massimiliano Mirabelli Quells Talk Of AC Milan Move For Chelsea’s Manager Antonio Conte

Featured Image

AC Milan director of football Massimiliano Mirabelli has dismissed reports linking his club with Antonio Conte.

It comes amid continued speculation in Conte’s native Italy over his future as Chelsea boss.

It was claimed that Conte was being considered as a potential replacement for Milan boss Vincenzo Montella, who is reportedly under pressure.

Speaking to Milan radio station Radio Rossonera, Mirabelli said: “We already have a manager and we are not thinking of Conte nor about other managers.”

Antonio Conte signed a new contract with Chelsea recently after a successful debut campaign, though there was no extension included as part of the deal. The Blues manager, who led the team to the 2016-17 Premier League crown, is tied down at Stamford Bridge until 2019.

Chelsea would love to keep him around for longer if possible. The Italian has given everyone at the club a huge lift, bringing intensity, tactical acumen and a winning mentality to this team.

I’m The Best Manager For Liverpool – Jurgen Klopp

Featured Image

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists he is still the best person for the role and believes his squad has made progress during his time in charge of the club.

Klopp celebrated his two-year anniversary as Liverpool boss during the recent international break but is yet to claim a piece of silverware with the Reds since arriving at Anfield in 2015.

Liverpool face rivals Manchester United at home on Saturday and know a defeat would leave them 10 points adrift of Jose Mourinho’s side in the race for the title.

While Jurgen Klopp admits his side is far from the finished article, the former Borussia Dortmund manager insists the squad have improved under his guidance.

“If they sack me now I don’t think there are a lot of managers who could do the job better than I do,” said Klopp.

“I don’t think I’m perfect but it is quite difficult to find better options on this. I still think as long as 98 per cent of Liverpudlians think we are on the right way, we will succeed. That is how it is.”

Antoine Griezmann Used Manchester United To Get More Money – Felipe Luis

Featured Image

Antoine Griezmann used Manchester United’s interest in him to secure a more lucrative deal at Atletico Madrid, according to team-mate Filipe Luis.

The France international has flirted with a move to Manchester before – he once revealed he was keen to play alongside compatriot Paul Pogba at club level, three months after his then-world record transfer move from Juventus.

After being heavily linked with a move to join Jose Mourinho’s side over the summer, Griezmann opted to sign a new deal at the Spanish club following the news Atletico’s transfer ban had been upheld.

However, Luis believes the forward was always happy to stay in Madrid and claims he was only talking up a potential transfer to Old Trafford in order to secure a a higher wage from the Spanish club.
Griezmann’s new deal keeps him at the club until 2021 and according to reports is worth up to £235k a week.

“[Griezmann] is a kid who speaks very clearly,” Luis told El Mundo. “Often players talk when they feel they are not being valued as they deserve. Then they get more attention. He would have had many offers from many teams.

“A player of his size wants to be up with the biggest in terms of contract and value. And that is fair – as Griezmann is doing great here. In the end, for all the talk about other clubs, he always wanted to stay here and he is still here, happy and liking it.”

Pep Guardiola Now Considering Replacing Injured Benjamin Mendy

Featured Image

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has indicated his main priority in the January transfer window will be to buy a replacement for injured defender Benjamin Mendy.

France left-back Mendy will be out for the next six months after suffering cruciate knee ligament damage during City’s victory over Crystal Palace on September 23.

Guardiola can use Fabian Delph, Danilo or Ukrainian youngster Oleksandr Zinchenko in Mendy’s absence, but he believes the former Monaco defender, signed for £52m in the summer, will be missed hugely.

“The transfer window is closed now. Unfortunately it was long open, but now it is closed,” Guardiola told reporters on Friday.

“We will see about January, we are in October. The only problem we have – a big, big problem we have – is Mendy, six months out. It’s a big problem.”

EFCC Recovered Over N30 Billion With Help From Whistle Blowers – Magu

Featured Image

The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has disclosed that more than N30 billion looted funds have been recovered since the commencement of the whistle blowing policy.

The EFCC boss said this on Thursday at the launch of the whistle-blower support project, Tagged ‘Corruption Anonymous’ (CORA).

It is understood that the project is being organised by the African Centre for Media and Information Literacy, AFRICMIL, in partnership with the MacArthur Foundation.

“Since the commencement of the whistle-blower policy, we have received hundreds of actionable tips that led to the following cash recoveries: N527, 643,500; $53,222,747; GBP 21,222,890 and Euro 547,730,” Mr. Magu said.

He added that the EFCC has created an environment for those with information to approach the Commission, confident that the information they give would be put into effective use.

Thursday’s speech comes about two months after Mr. Magu some of the tip-offs passed to anti-graft detectives by whistle blowers were leading nowhere.

The EFCC chief, however, explained his stance at the event.

“I am glad to report that Nigerians have so far been very responsive. We have always treated every tip referred to us with strict sense of responsibility bearing in mind that such undertaking on the part of the whistle-blower is usually a matter of trust and even risk.

“At the same time, we have been careful not to be used by mischief makers who would want to abuse this process.

“Let me reiterate that just as there is consequence for corruption, there will be consequence for those who want to take advantage of this noble initiative in the fight against corruption to create mischief. We have responded to this possibility by developing a water-tight mechanism of both reporting and cross-checking information.”

Davido Finally Breaks Silence On Tagbo’s Death [Read Full Statement]

Prominent Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has released a statement, in which he stated that late Umueke Tagbo never entered his car.

He also released CCTV footages of the night’s events.

The statement, issued on his behalf by his counsel, Norrison Quakers (SAN), and entitled The Unfortunate Death of Tagbo Umeike; Davido’s Story, read in full:

Davido Finally Breaks Silence On Tagbo's Death

Davido Finally Breaks Silence On Tagbo’s Death

“Our attention as solicitors to Mr. David Adeleke aka Davido, has been drawn to statements and comments both on the social, electronic and print media including but not limited to a very recent publication by national daily, wherein various statements credited to the Acting Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Mr. Edgal Imohimi, insinuating inter alia that our client has a case to answer in the unfortunate demise of one Mr. Tagbo Umeike.

“The said publications have all caused our client; Mr. David Adeleke (otherwise known as Davido), a lot of undue embarrassment thus necessitating the need to present the facts as they stand, since the unfortunate incidence is now in the public domain.

“First of all we wish to state that our client was never arrested but rather made himself available to assist the police in its investigation and after a satisfactory explanation, he was allowed to go.

“It is imperative to state that the evidence and footage available to the Police discloses the chain of events leading to the discovery of the remains of Mr. Tagbo Umeike do not in any way incriminate our Client, but rather absolves him of any criminal culpability; a fact that the Police is aware of.

“For the records, we wish to state that our Client has not been found culpable for the death of Mr. TagboUmeike, and this was earlier communicated by the police in a closed meeting involving the Acting Commissioner of Police, Lagos, Davido, the family of the deceased and one Caroline Danjuma who claims to be girlfriend of the deceased.

“Our client was also not involved in the untimely death of the deceased, nor did he give any instructions to anyone to ‘dump’ the corpse of Mr. TagboUmeike anywhere. Further, and as a matter of fact, we wish to state that the deceased did not step a foot, even for a second, in any of our Client’s vehicles on the evening of this sad series of events.

“The facts that can be distilled from the CCTV footage obtained from “Shisha Room” are that on or about 12:23 am in the early hours of Tuesday the 3rd of October, 2017 our Client got ready to leave the premises of the “Shisha Room”, where he had gone to earlier in the company of some of his friends to celebrate the birthday of one Clarks Adeleke.

“Again, we reiterate our client arrived at the Shisha Room in his vehicle with his friends and the deceased arrived about one hour later in his own vehicle. The CCTV footage obtained from the ‘Shisha Room’ captured our Client and some others, including the deceased all standing close to our Client’s vehicle as he prepared to leave after the drinks and celebrations.

“The deceased is seen in that footage to be in a very drunken and intoxicated state as he was staggering and falling on the people around him. Our Client tried to convince the deceased person to get into his vehicle in his drunken state so as to take him home safely, but this overture on our Client’s part was declined by the deceased.

“The CCTV footage further revealed that our Client drove out of the premises of ‘Shisha Room’, while the deceased went back into the ‘Shisha Room’ in the company of most of the people who were all at the car park at the time of our Client’s departure.

“After departing from the ‘Shisha Room’ our Client honored an invitation to a bar at Oniru Beach and subsequently went on to DNA Night Club. Regrettably, while in DNA Night Club with some friends, he received the tragic news of the death of the deceased.

“It is unfortunate that the stories making the news on the print, electronic and social media seek to portray our Client as a liar and a callous friend. We wish to state unequivocally on behalf of our Client, that he was not present at the time of the death of the deceased, neither did he give anyone directives or instructions to take the remains of the deceased to the general hospital or to the morgue.

“Our Client had no knowledge of the deceased’s movement after he last saw him at the ‘Shisha Room’. Rather, it was friends of the deceased (who out of concern for the deceased) and without our Client’s knowledge drove the deceased in (the deceased’s car) to the hospital, while our Client’s police details escorted the deceased’s car in our Client’s Hilux Pilot truck.

“This they did, because they knew the deceased to be their Boss’ friend and were merely helping a fellow human being who was in need of help.

“Our Client maintains that he has not in any way lied about what he knows about the unfortunate incident, neither has his statement to the Police been incoherent as unfortunately been presented in the media.

“Others involved have consistently maintained in their respective statements to the Police that our Client did not instruct them to take the remains of the deceased to the hospital, nor did the deceased enter our Client’s vehicle at any point that evening, nor does he have a hand in the death or transport of the remains of the deceased

“Our Client is presently grieving the loss of two of his friends, and deeply condoles with their immediate families; and as his Solicitors, it is our duty to set the records straight by bringing and putting into the public space/ domain the truth of what actually transpired. “It is disheartening that the image of our Client is being tarnished by mischief makers whose jaundiced publications and statements have had a negative impact on our Client’s emotional wellbeing, family and his fan base.

“We therefore appeal to the members of the public to desist from jumping into uninformed conclusions about the unfortunate incidence, and further appeal to the media to also desist from negative publications that seek to project our Client in bad light.

“Our client in honour of the memory of his departed friends, has suspended his next few shows and musical engagements. We commiserate with the families of the deceased and pray that God will comfort them at a time like this.”

The Aso Rock Clinic: A Reflection Of The Rot In Nigerian Medicare

The Aso Rock Clinic: A Reflection Of The Rot In Nigerian Medicare, By Ademola Adeoye

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

The likable wife of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria took ill not long ago and was told to jump on the next available flight to London to be treated medically. While playing to the gallery at a recent meeting in Abuja, she told the whole world that she refused to be flown abroad. She probably refused to be flown abroad simply because what was wrong with her was not life threatening! If it was, she possibly would have requested whoever was in charge of the medicare of the first family to fly her out pronto.

This piece was written by Ademola Adeoye. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

What if the Britons never developed their health care sector and allowed it to get to the same comatose state ours is presently in, where would they have taken Mr. President to when he took ill? It is a big shame that a 57 year old nation is still toying with the healthcare of her citizens. There are too many Nigerians who die needlessly daily. The only fault of theirs was to be born in a nation that does not care a hoot about their health.

When the regrettable news about the Aso Rock clinic came out, I was not moved one bit. I was not surprised that the ‘celebrated’ clinic does not have a common syringe! You know why? It is because the same ineffective, corrupt and feeble system drives everything in our dear country. If there is no order on our dusty streets, do not also expect to find it in the most privileged place in our polity. This is why our politicians are fond of traveling outside the country, even to treat headache!

ALSO READ: Aisha Buhari Slams Nigeria’s Healthcare, Aso Rock Clinic

I am writing this way because I have been to so many hospitals in Nigeria and I have a first-hand experience of what the masses are going through daily in a nation called “the giant of Africa.” The last time I was inside a hospital, I said to those who were with me on that if they could afford to travel beyond the shores of Nigeria for medical treatment that they should please do so.

A few years back, one of my friends took his wife to one of our hospitals. He dropped her off and quickly dashed to the office to go take care of an urgent task that he was not allowed to delegate. A few minutes after he got to his office, he called to know if his wife had been attended to. But she informed him of still being at the reception, waiting to be attended to. An hour later, the story remained the same. Some hours even after that, the sitation was unchanged. My friend ultimately left his office and met his wife the same way he left her in the morning! Finding her in excruciating pain, he was forced to make some noise, only after she was attended to and wheeled into an operating theatre. If one made an effort to travel round our greatly valued country, it could be found that the story is virtually the same from place to place.

Each time this and other raging national issues are raised, the first thing our professional politicians say is something in this manner: “You know that we are still young as a nation. With time, we would get it right. You know America, German, England…have been around for so long a time…” Each time I am told something like this, I always get very upset. Do we need 800 years as a nation before we can be able to install an excellence-driven health care system for our people? Are we re-inventing the wheel? Can’t we just copy what the Germans have perfected and implement it here? Instead of shamelessly traveling to countries where their health care systems are working, can’t we reproduce here what is making these countries work?

In 1970, Oman’s health care system was not performing well, just as ours is not performing well right now. The child mortality rate was very high. But major government investments proved to be successful in improving system performance. Oman’s success in recent times shows that tremendous strides can be accomplished in a relatively short period of time. How did Oman move from where they were to where they are today in a context of excellence-driven health care system? Instead of wasting scarce money to send people to both Jerusalem and Saudi Arabia, let us send some of our intelligent men and women to Oman to understudy them and reproduce this in Nigeria. It can be done, if we are serious as a people.

Commuters Stranded As BRT Drivers Commence Strike Action In Lagos

Featured Image

Commuters were on Thursday left stranded at various Bus Rapid Transport, BRT, bus stops and terminals across Lagos, after an industrial action embarked upon by the bus drivers, operated by Primero Ltd.

Vanguard reports that the drivers were protesting against unpaid salaries and allowances, delayed payment of benefits, reversal of their terms and conditions of service, among others by the management of the company.

It is understood that as early as 6am, there were long queues of commuters at the BRT bus terminals at Ikorodu, Ketu, Ojota, Maryland and other designated terminals, waiting for the buses in vain.

However, 3 hours later, some of the drivers were seen at Majidun loading station, chanting solidarity songs to press home their demands while the buses were off the road.

Speaking with the news outlet, on the condition of anonymity, some of the drivers said that their basic salaries had been slashed to N40,000 without reasons, non-payment of July and September salaries, and breach of agreement by management.

According to them, for the past four months, the management had slashed their salaries from N60,000 to N45, 000 and effort to get them to revert it proved abortive, lamenting that performance bonus of N20,000 and other benefits were no longer forthcoming.

Attempts to speak with Primero Managing Director, Fola Tinubu, or the company’s image maker, Mosunmola Agbaje, were unsuccessful but a senior staff who spoke on condition anonymity, appealed to the protesters to exercise patience.

However, the action was suspended at 4 pm.

Police Service Commission (PSC) Denies Demoting Lagos CP, Edgal Imohimi

Featured Image

The Chairman, Police Service Commission (PSC), Dr. Mike Okiro, has denied authorizing any letter from the commission purportedly demoting the Lagos State acting Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal to Deputy Commissioner of Police.

According to Mr Okiro, the letter was not authorised by him and should be ignored.

ALSO READ: Confusion As PSC Demotes Acting Lagos CP Edgal, Days After He Started Investigating Davido’s Friend’s Murder

The Commission’s Permanent Secretary, Musa Istifanus had written to the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris about the demotion of Edgal to his former rank of DCP.

The letter had generated confusion and consternation within the leadership of the police and among concerned stakeholders.

However, the PSC chairman said he had told the IG to ignore the letter.

“The letter was not authorised by the commission; Istifanus did not write on my behalf. We read the letter too like everybody and I have told the IG to ignore it. The letter was not authorized at all. I would meet with Istifanus about it and find out how the letter came about,” he said.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, had also stated that Imohimi remains the Acting Lagos CP.

“The PSC has the power to appoint, promote and discipline officers, but it does not have the power to demote. It can only demote an officer after the Force Disciplinary Committee has looked into what the officer has done and then recommend him for a disciplinary action, PSC can only authenticate what the police take to it.

“In this case, Acting CP Imohimi has not committed any disciplinary offence and the Force Disciplinary Committee has not recommended him for demotion,” he said.

The 28-year-old told German magazine 11 Freunde: “I had chosen Dortmund because I liked the way they play there. The players also liked me – and then there was the great coach, Jurgen Klopp. After I had talked to him, the decision had been made for me. I only wanted to go to Dortmund.

“When I came to Dortmund, Jurgen Klopp told me that I had to let go, and that it’s not good to think about football all the time. I started to understand what he meant, and so slowly, this part of me has changed.

“I am thankful to Klopp. He worked on my personality and the psychological part. Klopp showed me the way. He supported me and told me I had to keep my head up because good things were coming. He helped me to become a better player.”

Electricity Distribution Companies To Be Sold To New Investors – FG

Featured Image

The Federal Government has announced that they’re looking into getting new investors in the energy market to boost power production.

The Government has commenced negotiations with operators of the Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) with a view to ceding some of their shares to accommodate new investors who would bring in more funds to increase their service delivery. The Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Mohammed, disclosed this at the end of the Nigeria Economic Summit, in Abuja, Thursday.
Discos have been recognised as obstacles to the nation’s quest for efficient electricity sector.
Mrs Mohammed said,
“The Power sector has been privatized and every Nigerian knows that the privatization has not worked well. Things we sought to achieve in the power sector have not yet happened. And we have now come to the point where investors in the power sector must come together and decide to cede some of their holdings to enable new investors with expertise come in to enable us grow the power sector at the pace we want. It involves negotiating with existing owners and also government.
No new investor will be interested to come in with the level of tariff obtainable now.  There will be an impact  on tariff. Starting point will be Discos. The power sector will be opened up to new investment, it is very clear that no new investor will be coming without having a satisfaction from the tariff that will be obtainable in the industry.
That is a discussion that must be held. It is very clear to us now that the level of tariff we have now is not obtainable. It will be a subject of negotiation between government, the existing investors and new investors as well as consumers. We will try to attain to optimal level that will make an impact on the tariff.  The starting point will be the Discos.”

Outrage As World Bank Claims “Buhari Specifically Told Us To Focus On Northern Nigeria”

Featured Image

The President of the World Bank Group, Jim Yong Kim, on Thursday, revealed that the bank had concentrated on the northern region of Nigeria in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s request.

Kim made this known yesterday at a press conference in Washington DC, United States, which was attended by the Managing Director, International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde.

His words: “You know, in my very first meeting with President Buhari he said specifically that he would like us to shift our focus to the northern region of Nigeria and we’ve done that.  Now, it has been very difficult. The work there has been very difficult.

“I think Nigeria, of course, has suffered from the dropping oil prices. I think things are just now getting better.  But the conversation we need to have with Nigeria, I think, is in many ways related to the theme that I brought to the table just this past week, which is investment in human capital.  The percentage of the Gross Domestic Product that Nigeria spends on healthcare is less than one percent.”

“Despite that, there is so much turbulence in the northern part of the country, and there is the hit that was taken from the drop in the oil prices.  Nigeria has to think ahead and invest in its people. Investing in the things that will allow Nigeria to be a thriving, rapidly growing economy in the future is what the country has to focus on right now.”

“Focusing on the northern part of Nigeria, we hope that as commodity prices stabilise and oil prices come back up, the economy will grow a bit more. But very, very much important is the need to focus on what the drivers of growth in the future will be.”

In April 2016, Kim was in Nigeria for three days during which he met with Buhari.

Meanwhile, the latest revelation has already started to stir outrage on social media with a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, taking the front seat in the vehicle of those venting chagrin on the president.

Tweeting on Friday morning, Fani-Kayode, claimed Buhari sees Nigerians from the South and Middle Belt as “low-lifes, vassals and slaves”.

Quite a number of Nigerians have frequently accused Buhari of promoting northern interests since he came to office in 2015, with this believed to be a major trigger for the Biafra agitation and calls for restructuring in southern Nigeria.

Here are other tweets that showed Nigerians are not too happy with the latest revelation.

Tottenham Can’t Compete Financially – Mauricio Pochettino

Featured Image

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has acknowledged that Spurs will struggle to compete with the financial power of the two Manchester clubs.

The north London club trail Premier League leaders Manchester City and second-placed Manchester United by five points and will face Bournemouth at Wembley on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho both spent heavily during the summer transfer window, City brought in three full-backs for a near £130m while United spent heavily to bring in Romelu Lukaku from Everton, and Pochettino admits Spurs will continue to adopt a different transfer policy.

“The difference these days between clubs in the Premier League is that there are clubs, like City and United, who sign who they want and when they want,” the Argentinian manager told beIN Sports.

“Then there are big teams, like us, who sign when we can and who we can. It’s the big difference today.”
