Report : Espanyol Expecting Transfer Bids From Both Manchester Clubs for Defender Aaron Martin

Featured Image

Espanyol are preparing to receive offers for Manchester City and Manchester United target Aaron Martin in January, reports Sport.

Both Manchester clubs are keen on Aaron Martin , who has impressed for Espanyol since the start of last season.

According to Sport, scouts from several teams, including United, monitored the 20-year-old during Espanyol’s 0-0 draw at home to Levante on Friday night.

Espanyol expect to receive offers for the Spaniard in January, but they are holding out for the full value of his €30m buyout clause as they are looking to reinvest in their squad.

City, according to Sport, made an unsuccessful €20m bid for Aaron toward the end of the summer transfer window. They have ramped up their interest in him again after Benjamin Mendy recently suffered a long-term injury, although they are reportedly keen on Valencia’s Jose Gaya too.

Aaron’s buyout clause will increase to €40m at the end of June, and he is under contract until 2022.

Espanyol are already monitoring potential replacements and expected to spend around €3m or €4m on a new left-back if he leaves.

Schalke Refusing To Sell Out-of-contract Midfielder Leon Goretzka In January

Schalke will not sell coveted midfielder Leon Goretzka in the January transfer window, according to the club’s CEO Christian Heidel.

Leon Goretzka, the Germany international, is out of contract in June and is attracting interest from a number of clubs across Europe, including Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Some of his suitors are reportedly looking to snap him up in a cut-price deal in January, but Schalke would prefer for him to leave on a free transfer next summer.

Speaking to Bild, Heidel said: “For us, always, there were only two options – that Goretzka renews [his contract] or he stays until 2018. Selling him prematurely was never an option for us.”

Sam Allardyce Rules Himself Out Of Scotland Job

Featured Image

Sam Allardyce has ruled himself out of the running to be the new Scotland manager and has backed David Moyes for the job.

Former England boss Allardyce was installed as one of the favourites for the position after it was vacated by Gordon Strachan on Thursday.

Sam Allardyce left Crystal Palace of his own accord in the summer after keeping them in the Premier League and has been linked with a number of positions since.

But despite Scottish ancestry he says he will not be heading north of the border.

“My parents and sister were all born in Scotland, I have heritage from there, there’s no doubt about that,” he told BBC 5 Live’s Sportsweek.

Asked if the job interested him, he added: “Not at this moment in time because I’m enjoying not being involved at the front end of football at the moment. I think David Moyes would probably be my choice for that one.

“It’s very tempting, but no.”

Henry Onyekuru Confirms He Is In Talks With Everton Over Early Return From Loan

Featured Image

Henry Onyekuru has confirmed that he had a meeting with Everton last week over a possible early return to the club as he continued his top form for Anderlecht.

Henry Onyekuru posted a picture on his Instagram account tagging himself in Liverpool city centre last week – sparking rumours that he could be discussing an early return to Mersyside from his loan spell.

The Nigerian international joined the Blues in the summer for a fee believed to be around £7 million, and was immediately sent out on loan to Anderlecht as he didn’t qualify for a UK work permit.

However, reports have suggested that Everton could appeal to the FA’s “exceptions panel” about possible bringing the forward back in January – and Onyekuru seemed to confirm last night that initial talks have taken place at least.

He told Belgian publication La Libre : “Yes, that’s right [had a meeting in Liverpool] and I’m waiting for something. That’s all I can say.

“I hope to be able to play there in January. Everton is happy with my start to the season. But we are not in January and all my concentration is in Anderlecht.”

Getting Sacked Early As England Coach Is My Biggest Regret – Sam Allardyce

Featured Image

Sam Allardyce believes he should not have left his role as England coach and confessed he still thinks about his departure regularly.

Sam Allardyce was sacked a year ago this month after just one game in charge of the national team Three Lions.

An undercover sting by the Telegraph showed Allardyce offering advice on how to dodge third-party ownership rules.

The 62-year-old, appearing as a guest on Goals on Sunday , opened up about a period in his life he described as “harrowing”.

“Legally, that’s a very difficult subject for me to talk about,” he said. “To say one thing personally, since it happened [my lawyers and I] have had a long, long look at it.

“Clearly if a bit more patience had been shown, I believe I should have still been there.

“But it is what it is and you can’t dwell over it. The most harrowing period for the family was after with what people said and did and what they tried to do to me. It was outrageous.

“Without evidence, people were spouting off. But I have had to move on and I have moved on.”

Despite ‘moving on’ Allardyce admitted he still spends plenty of time casting his mind back over his dismissal.

Asked how much time he spends thinking about it all, Allardyce replied: “A lot. A lot, a lot, a lot, a lot.

“Especially when the England games come up and I’ve only just been able to watch them again recently.

“It was a really sad moment for me, having worked so hard to get to the pinnacle of my career.”

Real Madrid Still Interested In Bayern Munich’s David Alaba

Featured Image

Bayern Munich midfielder David Alaba remains a Real Madrid transfer target, says Sport.

Los Blancos failed in an attempt to land the Austria international in the summer, but Zinedine Zidane is a fan of Alaba’s versatility and wants to bring him in to bolster the Real squad.

A significant amount of defensive injuries has hit Los Blancos, and the absence of the likes of Marcelo, Dani Carvajal and Theo Hernandez has highlighted the lack of depth.

David Alaba made his name as a full-back but has also played as a centre-back and in midfield. His excellent all-round game means he regularly contributes in front of goal

Zidane has been forced to debut Achraf Hakimi, a young player who recently joined the first team.

Lazio Confirm Offers For Manchester United And Juventus Target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

Lazio have received several offers for Manchester United transfer target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to the Serie A club’s director of football Igli Tare.

“It is what happens on the pitch that decides the player’s price-tag. We have received several offers, offers exceeding €70m (£62m) but not from Juventus,” he told Premium Sport.

“He signed a contract extension six months ago and that means that he is happy here.”

“We have some important players here like Luis Alberto and Lucas Leiva, it’s hard to win at the Juventus Stadium we are closing the gap with Juventus.”

“Juventus are better than us in terms of mentality, we have clear ideas and we know where we want to arrive, we know our targets. Felipe Andreson and Nani will be like new signings they are training to reach the best form.”

100 Nigerian Students To Be Deported From UK Over Unpaid Scholarships

Featured Image

There are very strong indications that about 100 Nigerian students on scholarship in universities across the United Kingdom could be deported home as early as this week except their fees are settled immediately.

According to The Telegraph of London, a bursary scheme funded by a regional agency in Nigeria has folded, with dozens of students facing having to return home before Christmas.

The agency’s decision to withdraw the funding without their knowledge has left some students saddled with debts of up to £20,000.

Though the name of the sponsor agency was not given in the report, it was gathered that the students are “some of Nigeria’s brightest undergraduates.”

They have been told that they will not receive their degree certification even though many of them completed their courses in the last academic year.

The newspaper said some of the affected students claimed they have been warned they could be deported by Friday, October 20.

It said the Nigerian High Commission in London confirmed that 152 students had been caught up in the scandal and that the sponsoring agency had been left with a “draught of funding” due to a slump in Nigeria’s oil revenues.

The High Commission said in a statement that additional funding had been approved for 87 students.

There was no mention of how soon the bill would be paid.

The universities of Leeds and Essex said they “sympathised” with the affected students but declined to say whether their visas would be revoked.

They said that they were working closely with the Nigerian High Commission to resolve the dispute.

The University of Sussex claimed it had allowed one student to graduate, but declined to comment on whether their transcript had been withheld. It added that it had been providing “some financial assistance for living costs in cases of particular hardship.”

Bernardo Silva is full of high praise for his Manchester City teammate, Kevin De Bruyne , who he has hailed as one of the best in the world.

The Belgium midfielder has been in blistering form for Manchester City this season and continues to raise the bar when it comes to assists.

De Bruyne’s capabilities has been hailed, with the former Chelsea man assisting more goals than anyone in the PL since he joined City in 2015 and Silva has added to his plaudits.

How Buhari’s Politics Under-Develops Nigeria

How Buhari’s Politics Under-Develops Nigeria, By Mbasekei Martin Obono

In the 70s, a strong wind of Pan-Africanism blew across the African continent, borderlines drawn by colonialism began to fade and the continent shrank even further. Proponents of Pan-Africanism held a strong belief that the economic, social and political progress of ‘one Africa’ would unify and uplift people of African descent.

As a result of the proposed economic and infrastructural integration, there was an agreement to construct railways that would traverse North, East, West and Southern Africa.

President Shehu Shagari, who was then president of Nigeria saw the opportunities in a united Africa and decided to build the Ajaokuta steel company. As the giant of Africa, Nigeria was poised to use Ajaokuta steel company to supply the required steel, needed for the construction of the railway.

The railway was already a huge market for the company. Also, Ajaokuta was projected to employ 500,000 people, with annual revenue running into billions of dollars. It was envisioned that the project would provide materials for infrastructural development, technological acquisition, human capacity building, income distribution, regional development, among many other achievements. Ajaokuta was more than sixty percent completed by the Shagari administration.

Despite the promise of a glorious future, a booming economy and a promising democracy, General Muhammadu Buhari and his military colleagues plotted a coup and overthrew Shagari’s government. After the ouster, Ajaokuta was abandoned with no further investment made into it. Even if the sin of overthrowing a democratically elected president is forgivable, how do we forgive the sin of the deliberate impoverishment of our people?

Let’s fast forward to his second coming in 2015. The National Bureau of Statistics in August 2016 revealed that 4.58 million Nigerians lost their jobs during Buhari’s first year in office. The unemployment rate has not dropped, but has rather increased. Many companies have wound up. Fortune 500 organisations and other multinationals have been quite concerned about the state of affairs in Nigeria. Portfolio investors, including Aberdeen Asset Management Plc and Ashmore Group Plc, which together oversee about $450 billion of asset, have retreated from Nigerian markets. Nigeria became even less attractive as the country fell from first to fourth, behind Ivory Coast, Kenya and Tanzania in the ranking of business prospects by the research unit of Nielsen Holdings Plc.

To make matters worse, the government recently revoked the contract of INTELS Services. INTELS Services moved to Onne in 1982, which was an almost empty field, only partially built. But INTELS refurbished Onne Port and transformed it to the largest oil and gas free zone in the world. The government has been struggling hard to convince keen observers that the revocation was not done on the basis of INTELS’ affiliation with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. Atiku has been critical of both the economy and structure of Nigeria and in the same vein, shown that he is interested in running for president in 2019.

For the avoidance of doubts, more than 15,000 families depend on INTELS Services for their daily bread, clothing and shelter. The question is what would happen to these 15,000 people? Should they all suffer because of the ambition of one man?

For a government that detests the voice of dissent and would stop at nothing to clamp down on anyone, Atiku’s INTELS was an easy target. Before Atiku, the government tried to muzzle the opposition by introducing a social media regulation bill. After the bill failed, it introduced the NGO regulation bill to clampdown on organisations who may oppose government policies. This bill will also fail.

A government should be creating jobs instead of destroying them. INTELS also has a multi-billion dollar investment at the Badagry deep seaport in Lagos, the investment in Lagos would create thousands of direct and indirect jobs for Nigerians. If INTELS pulls out of Nigeria, how many jobs can Buhari’s administration create for the teeming population? Everything should not be about politics.

Park: Pirlo Was The Best In The World

Featured Image

Park Ji-Sung has labelled retiring Andrea Pirlo as one of the best in the world, at the time Manchester United and AC Milan shared a rivalry.

The veteran midfielder announced he will be hanging his boots after his contract with NYC FC ends in December.

Pirlo is already guaranteed a spot among the greats, having won six Serie A titles, two UCL titles and a World Cup.

The former United midfielder told Goal: “He was not a big player physically, but his ability in passing, taking free-kicks, shooting from distance, play-making was the best in the world at that time.

“I believe he was a great player who could dictate the game. He was the biggest threat to any team who played against his team.”

“Man Utd analysed Milan’s game and concluded that Pirlo is the key man for them. Sir Alex Ferguson made me man-mark Pirlo.

“So, I tried to block him so that he cannot be in possession of the ball. When he had the ball, I tried to prevent him passing the ball in front of him.

“To mark Pirlo was not easy. It was hard mentally, physically but consequently Milan had a difficult game against us.”
