Police Commissioner Says Davido Is Not Out Of The Water Yet Over Tagbo’s Death

Featured Image

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police has revealed that following the advice of the Directorate of Public Prosecution, pop superstar Davido might not be totally free just yet over his alleged involvement in the death of Tagbo Umeike.

The Commissioner, Mr Imohinmi Edgal explained that the DPP report advised that more investigations be carried out on the matter to determine the involvement of all suspects which he said the police was still working on. As a result, the CP Edgal has ordered further investigations on Davido and his aides over the circumstance that led to the death of late Tagbo.

The police boss said the re-invitation of Davido had to do with fresh facts which he had denied, saying he didn’t know who took the deceased to the Island General Hospital and dumped him there. He added that Davido needed to explain why he denied knowing who took the deceased to the hospital, whereas he was the person that directed his driver and escort to take the deceased to the hospital and abandon him there.

CCTV camera footage showed the vehicle that brought the deceased to the hospital and according to the police boss, the same vehicle was traced to Davido’s house in Lekki Phase one.

According to the autopsy report, the late Tagbo died of suffocation and CCTV footage from where they all hung out together captured the deceased taking huge volumes of alcohol with Davido and their friends.

The investigation is expected to take a longer period before a conclusive report can be released.

How AGF Malami, Dambazau Pulled The Strings For Maina’s Reinstatement (DOCUMENTS)

Featured Image

There are shocking revelations emerging that the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), and his counterpart in the Ministry of Interior, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau, “actually” pulled the strings for the recall of fugitive and former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina.

Maina, who had been at large since 2013 when he was declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over his suspected involvement in a N2 billion pension scam, suddenly resurfaced recently with his redeployment to the Ministry of Interior as Director, Human Resources Department.

ALSO READ: Buhari Sacks Ex-Pension Boss Abdulrasheed Maina, Queries Head Of Service

According to The Nation, Malami was the one who directed the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) to reinstate Maina.

It is also understood that the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita, had no role in Maina’s reinstatement and promotion. In fact, sources said, Mrs. Oyo-Ita advised against Maina’s recall, but she was overruled.

Instead of allowing Mrs. Oyo-Ita to determine Maina’s fate, some top officials of the Ministry of Interior were made members of a committee which recommended his reinstatement.

ThisDay also gathered that contrary to the impression created by the interior ministry that it knew nothing about the development, it was indeed Malami and Dambazau who worked hand-in-hand to get Maina reinstated and promoted.

The FCSC letter approving his promotion and reinstatement as a deputy director on Salary Grade Level (SGL) 16 and granting approval to Maina to sit for the next promotion exam to the post of director on SGL 17, also detailed the correspondence between the AGF, the OHCSF and the Senior Staff Committee of the Ministry of Interior that led to Maina’s reinstatement in the civil service.

Meanwhile, the details of who authorised Maina’s return were contained in a letter of reinstatement sent to the wanted officer by the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC).

N2bn Fraud: Sacked Ex-Pension Boss, Abdulrasheed Maina “Goes Into Hiding”

The letter, dated September 18 and signed by Mustapha L. Sulaiman for the FCSC chairman, indicated that the AGF advised the FCSC that Maina should be reinstated.

How AGF, Malami approved Maina’s reinstatementThe letter said: “Kindly refer to the Attorney-General of the Federation/ Honourable Minister of Justice letter Ref. No. HAGF/FCSC/2017/ VOL. 1/3 dated 27th April 2017 requesting Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) to give consequential effect to the judgment that voided the warrant of arrest issued against A.A. Maina which formed the basis for the query and his eventual dismissal.

“Further to the aforementioned letter, the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) at its meeting held on 14th June, 2017 deliberated on the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF’s) letter and requested the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) vide letter FC.4029/82/VOL.III/160 of 21st June 2017 to advise the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior to consider the AGF’s letter, the Officer’s case and make appropriate recommendation to the Commission.

“The OHCSF accordingly advised the Ministry of Interior to consider the matter. The Ministry of Interior at its Senior Staff Committee (SSC)’s meeting held on 22nd June, 2017 considered the disciplinary case against the Officer and the letter by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice seeking the reinstatement of the Officer as a Director (Administration), SGL. 17 in the Federal Civil Service.

“The Ministry of Interior’s Senior Staff Committee (SSC) deliberated on the case and recommended that Mr. Maina be reinstated into the service as Deputy Director. SGL. 16. The Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) vide letter Ref. No. HCSF/LU/ COR/ FCSC/749/III/ 135 dated 14th August 2017 forwarded the recommendations of the Senior Staff Committee (SSC) of the Ministry of Interior to the FCSC for further necessary action.

“The FCSC at its meeting held on Wednesday, 16th August, 2017 considered the letter from the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice and the recommendations of the Senior Staff Committee (SSC) of the Ministry of Interior on the disciplinary case against Alhaji Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina, Deputy Director (Administration), Salary Grade Level 16.

“The FCSC, thereafter, approved the reinstatement of the Officer into the Service with effect from 21st February, 2013(being the date he was earlier dismissed from Service).

“The FCSC also approved for the Officer to sit for the next promotion examination to the Post of Director (Administration), SGL. 17.”

In the letter, which was sent also to Mrs Oyo-Ita, the FCSC only added a clause as follows: “You are kindly requested to deliver the attached original letter to the Officer, please.”

With this, there are strong indications that President Muhammadu Buhari may sanction Malami and Dambazzau, for their roles in the recall of Maina.

Ronald Koeman registered his disappointment at being sacked by Everton and has bid farewell to the club in a released statement.

The Dutch manager was relieved of his duties after Everton lost 5-2 to Arsenal, sending them to the relegation zone.

Koeman was backed by the club ahead of the new season, with a £140 million transfer chest, bringing in new players.

But a poor start to the season for the Merseyside club, winning only two out of nine matches in the League, has led to Koeman’s sacking.

“I would like to place on record my thanks to the players and staff for all of their work and commitment during my 16 months as Everton manager,” it read.

“I would like to thank Bill Kenwright, Farhad Moshiri and the Everton board for the opportunity to have managed a great club, and to the fans as well for their passionate support for the club.

“Naturally, I am disappointed at this moment, but I wish the team good luck in the future.”

Helenius: Whyte’s Temper Will Be His Downfall

Featured Image

Robert Helenius, who will face Dillian Whyte on Saturday, says his opponent’s temper will be his downfall.

The heavyweight pair will collide before Joshua defends his titles against Takam, and Helenius intends to use Whyte’s temper against him.

Asked about Whyte’s weaknesses, Helenius told Sky Sports: “He loses his temper a lot.

“I’ve seen a couple of his fights. He is a tough fighter. His strength is coming forward all the times – he has good conditioning but I can pick him apart. I am taller and bigger than him.

“I have the reach, the power, and I am fast. It will be a tough fight for both of us. This is a directional fight – it will show who is going up, and who is going down.”

Joshua: Whyte Is Not A Problem For Me

Featured Image

Anthony Joshua says he will not let rival boxer, Dilian Whyte distract him ahead of his title fight this weekend.

The undefeated British boxer will defend his IBF and WBA ‘super’ titles against Carlos Takam on Saturday.

Whyte, a former opponent of Joshua is a notable appearance on the undercard for the fight at The O2.

Asked if Whyte, who he beat in December 2015, might be a distraction Joshua told Sky Sports: “It’s good that he’s performing on the shows that I’m on. I’m not bitter. It gives him a chance to express himself to an American audience, to a bigger audience than just The O2.

“It builds up our grudge match once again. You know me – I’m not shy of a little scrap. Dillian brings that to the table.

“Dillian brings entertaining press conferences. Dillian is waiting patiently in the pipeline.

“I’m learning now that the people I’ve been around are future opponents. Before, it was the other way around.

“Takam has been at a couple of my shows and now I’m fighting him. I helped Wladimir Klitschko get ready for Pulev without any intention of fighting them, at the time.”

On Tuesday morning, Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja confirmed to reporters that he had signed a subpoena compelling the former President to appear in court on Wednesday to testify in defence of former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh.

The judge confirmed this on Tuesday during the resumed trial of Metuh and his company, Destra Investments Limited, on seven counts of money laundering involving alleged cash transaction of $2m and fraudulent receipt of N400m meant for procurement of arms from the Office of the National Security Adviser. ‎Confirming the summons on Jonathan on Tuesday, Justice Abang said he received Metuh’s application for a subpoena to be issued on Jonathan at about 3.59pm on Monday.

The judge said,

“Indeed, at the close of business yesterday being October 23, 2017 precisely at about 3.59pm, the registrar forwarded to the court in chamber a subpoena to compel former President Goodluck Jonathan to appear in court to testify a the instance of the first defendant (Metuh).

Therefore in line with section 241(1) of Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 and having regard to the subsisting judgment of the Court of Appeal in the appeal CA/A/159C/2017, between Olisa Metuh and Federal Republic of Nigeria dated September 29, 2017 to the effect that it will be tantamount to violating the right of the first defendant to fair hearing not to sign the subpoena.

Coutinho Slams Poor Defending Against Tottenham

Featured Image

Philippe Coutinho believes that Liverpool is to blame for their heavy 4-1 defeat to Tottenham, as they did not defend well.

A comfortable brace from Kane and goals from Son and Alli secured a 4-1 win at Wembley. Tottenham were 2-0 up in 13 minutes.

And Coutinho who has been courted by Barcelona and could still make a move, believes they could have prevented the goals.

“The goals were goals that could have been prevented,” he told ESPN Brasil .

“It started out wide and we end up conceding one of those goals the manager speaks about.

“He speaks a lot about this – we’ve conceded a lot of goals like this. And obviously in attack we were unable to score the goals necessary to draw or turn around the game.

“We were in the game during the first half then the goal we conceded made everything worse.”

“The first goal started in a wide position where everyone is involved in defending, not just the players right at the back,” he added.

“We have to improve this as quickly as possible in order to win games and fight more. With difficult games like this one, we know it’s these things that decide them.

“So we need to concentrate more to deal with balls like this.

“The first goal was scored after four minutes and the second one after 12 or 13. It’s difficult to play away from home against a strong team when you start like that.

“We have to work hard. Those passages of play, those set pieces from wide positions. We have to concentrate more to deal with them.”

Crocodile Smile: Bishop, 18 Others Arrested For Robbery, Kidnapping

Featured Image

Troops of the Nigerian Army currently engaged in the ongoing Operation Crocodile Smile II in the South-South and South-West regions have arrested a bishop, Uwah Mfon, and 18 others for armed robbery, kidnapping and cult activities in different areas of Akwa Ibom State.

It was gathered that the suspects – some of them were identified as Saviour Friday, Nsika Udoh, Akan Monday, Abak Obong and Oyobong Frank – were arrested by troops of 2 Brigade and had been handed over to the police.

Confirming the arrest, the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, and 6 Division spokesman, Colonel Aminu Iliyasu, said Mfon and the other suspects were nabbed for allegedly terrorising Abak Obong, Oruk Atai and Ikot Obong areas in the Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of the state.

Iliyasu said the bishop was believed to be an alleged financier of “wanted criminals terrorising” the areas.

He said, “The increased presence of troops both on land and on waterways helped to prevent any criminal activity.

“The troops arrested Mfon on October 14. He is believed to be the financier of wanted criminals and he was arrested at Ikot Ibekwe community in the Ukanafun LGA. The suspect is volunteering information about gangs of kidnappers and cult members linked to him.”

The spokesman further disclosed that more than 120,000 litres of stolen fuel was recovered from oil thieves in Rivers State.

It was gathered that troops of 29 Battalion intercepted two trucks in the Uzuaku area, laden with 55,000 and 30,000 litres of fuel.

He continued: “A patrol team also discovered a re-activated illegal refinery in the Doroko area on October 17; and the site was destroyed by the troops. The troops also destroyed 53 jerrycans of 25 litres and 20 drums of 250 litres in the Akinima and Okrika areas respectively.”

N2bn Fraud: Sacked Ex-Pension Boss, Abdulrasheed Maina “Goes Into Hiding”

Featured Image

The embattled ex-chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina, is said to have gone into hiding after he was accused of complicity in a N2bn fraud.

It was gathered that Maina, who is still on the wanted list of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for the alleged offence, went into hiding soon after news that the anti-graft agency had launched a manhunt for him became public.

The Punch quoted a source who spoke on the condition of anonymity as saying that Maina travelled to Kano during the weekend and had given appointments to some persons to meet him at the office on Monday but went into hiding soon afterwards.

The source said, “He planned to meet with some visitors in his office on Monday but for him to have aborted the appointment and switched off his phones meant he had gone underground. He may not be seen for a little while.”

Also, the EFCC also said it was still searching for Maina whom it declared wanted about two years ago.

The spokesman of the anti-graft agency, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, told newsmen on Monday that the commission was still on his trail.

He, however, stated that the commission had marked his houses in Abuja including a house in Jabi said to be worth about $2m.

Uwujaren said, “Yes, his properties were marked today. To the best of my knowledge, he has not yet been arrested.”

Another source within the EFCC accused a sister security agency, the Department of State Services, of shielding the suspect from arrest.

The source said Maina was moving around town in a bulletproof Range Rover Sports Utility Vehicle and two or three vehicles.

The source said, “We have traced him to a hotel in Kaduna where he went to spend the weekend; we know that the DSS is protecting him and the DG DSS, deployed men to protect him. But make no mistake, we will arrest him, already we’ve frozen all his accounts.”

Another source said, “He stays in a property which is a DSS safe house. He moves around in a convoy of about two or three vehicles. I personally saw him alighting from a Range Rover SUV last week with about four DSS officials.”

Indications of profound interest have emerged that about sixteen firms are scrambling to acquire 9mobile, Nigeria’s fourth largest network operator.

ThisDay reports that the 16 firms have submitted Expressions of Interest (EoIs) to Barclays to bid for 9mobile

It is understood that companies that have expressed interest in 9mobile include Africa’s biggest telecoms operator, MTN; India’s Bharti Airtel, operating as Airtel in Nigeria; and ntel, which in 2015 acquired the assets of the defunct NITEL and MTel through the federal government’s privatisation programme.

Also in the race are Bua Group, the privately held conglomerate promoted by Alhaji Abdulsamad Rabiu; Morning Side Capital Partners, promoted by the former Managing Director of Diamond Bank Plc, Mr. Alex Otti; and Africell, a subsidiary of the Lebanon-based Lintel Group of Companies, with cellular communications operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), The Gambia, Sierra Leone and Uganda.

Other firms that submitted EoIs are Obot Etiebet & Co, belonging to a former petroleum minister, Mr. Don Etiebet; Blackstone Private Equity; Tel-ology Holdings Limited, a special purpose vehicle led by a former chief executive of MTN Nigeria, Mr. Adian Wood, and Ericsson; De-elim Services Limited; Veittel, a firm owned by the investment arm of the Vietnamese military which has telecoms assets in Africa; AB-Bro Limited, a Nigerian venture company; Hamilton and George International Limited; and two other firms.

The news outlet quoted industry sources as saying that the 16 companies had complied with the deadline for the submission of EoIs at Barclays’ office in Ikoyi, Lagos, and are preparing to access the data room to conduct their due diligence on 9mobile, preparatory for the bid submission stage.

In July, Etisalat Group had announced on the Abu Dhabi Stock Exchange that it had pulled out of 9mobile, formerly known as Etisalat Nigeria.

Buhari Heads To Niger Republic Today – Barely 48 Hours After Turkish Trip

Featured Image

President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to depart for Niamey, Republic of Niger, on Tuesday, October 24, to participate in a meeting on common currency for the West African sub-region.

This disclosure was made by Femi Adesina, spokesman of the president, in a statement issued on Monday.

The statement read: “Member countries of the ECOWAS Task Force on Common Currency are ‎Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana and Niger.”

“The minister of finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun and the Central Bank of Nigeria governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, will also join the President at the meeting.”

“President Buhari will return to Abuja same day after the meeting.”

The trip is coming barely 48 hours after the president returned from a summit in Turkey.

Nigeria’s supreme leader had travelled to Turkey for a meeting of the D-8, a group of eight developing nations after presiding over Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting.

While in Turkey, President Buhari was hosted by the Turkish President Recep Tayyeb Erdogan before the D-8.

“The meetings have also helped to enhance momentum in ties between Nigeria and the rest of the ‘D-8’ member-countries and the establishment of a positive working relationship, especially between Buhari and Erdogan.”

“Nigeria and Turkey has agreed to support each other in the fight against terrorism, human, drugs, and arms trafficking,” Garba Shehu, the president’s spokesman, had said on Sunday.

Just Like Fayose! Sule Lamido Declares Interest For 2019 Presidency Under PDP

Featured Image

A former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has written a letter to the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in which he declared his intention to run for the office of the presidency in the 2019 Presidential election under the Platform of the Party.

“I Will Defeat Buhari In 2019,” – Fayose Dares PDP, Declares For President

According to the letter, which was sighted by newsmen on Monday in Abuja, Lamido disclosed that all the party needs to reposition Nigeria is to take over power in 2019 and bring the country back to the path of recovery.

‎Lamido’s letter reads: “Today, 57 years after the independence of our dear country, can we in all sincerity claim to have achieved the dream of our founding fathers? Where did we fail and from where did we begin to fail? Nigeria with its natural endowment and human capacity cannot be forgiven for being otherwise.”

“We cannot even demonstrate our ability and capacity to meet domestic, regional and global challenges which currently seems to overwhelm us. The PDP will and must lead the nation back into a bright, progressive, and innovative future.”

“The PDP must rekindle in Nigeria a new hope, a nation of united people with a common and assured destiny” and that the country must demonstrate its “confidence, tenacity, ability and capability to address our domestic regional and global challenges that confront us.”

“It is against this background that I offer myself to vie for the office of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2019 if my party finds me worthy to fly its flag. I am no means claiming to be the only capable material, any PDP member given the trust and support can fly our flag, and I expect many more aspirants will express the desire to run.”

“My hope and prayer is that at the end of all the process which I hope will be open, fair transparent and credible is to give Nigeria in 2019 a candidate who will lead the party and Nigeria. This is because there is no alternative to PDP in 2019, it will be a defining moment in the Nigerian political evolution.”

“Our imperfect union as a federation should not be an excuse for our legendary failure which appears to have found vent in the call for restructuring, a union of multi-ethnic multi-lingual and multi-religious can certainly task the best of human capacities, but that is precisely the challenge and how to work on it and build a nation of people of a common destiny, and this is where the PDP must raise to the challenge.”

“The starting point is where the PDP began in 1998 and critical to it is creating an open environment in which every Nigerian must not only been seen to be, but must be an equal stakeholder and therefore restoring trust and faith in our shared union and this PDP was able to achieve in its first four years.”

Lamido is not the only one showing interest for the prestigious office under the platform of the opposition party, as the Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, had last month publicly declared his ambition to seek the ticket, knowing well that the PDP has zoned its presidential ticket to the Northern region of Nigeria.

Kane: Tottenham Can Win PL

Harry Kane has charged Tottenham to take confidence from their Liverpool thrashing and believe they can win the PL.

The England international scored a brace in the 4-1 thrashing of Liverpool on Sunday. Tottenham have been second and third in the last two seasons and are five points behind City.

Kane is quite confident they can win the Premier League with hardwork for the first time since 1961.

“We’ve been very close the last couple of seasons to winning the Premier League, hopefully this year will be our year,” the England international said.

“We’ve definitely got a good enough team to do that, so as I said, we’ve got to keep working hard and see what happens. It’s doable, we’ve just got to maintain our form.

“Yesterday will give us great confidence, beating a team like Liverpool, that way as well.

“There’s a long way to go, we’ve been so close the last couple of years, hopefully we can do it this year.”
