Nigeria Agrees To Pay N88bn Compensation To Victims Of Biafra Civil War

Featured Image

The Federal Government on Monday agreed to pay a total of N88billion for the compensation of victims of the Nigeria/Biafra civil war, as well as for the reconstruction of areas destroyed by abandoned explosives within the South-East, South-South and North Central regions of the country.

The decision came after the ECOWAS community court of justice granted an out-of-court settlement application for a case involving the federal government and victims of the Nigerian civil war.

FG, in terms of agreement it endorsed before the ECOWAS Court in Abuja on Monday, said while it would pay N50billion compensation to “true victims” of the civil war that occured between 1967 and 1970, it said a total sum of N38billion will be paid to contractors for total and complete demining and destruction of abandoned bombs and landmines within the regions.

It is understood that the affected states are the five states in the South-East zone – Imo, Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, and Enugu; four states in South-South – Akwa-Ibom, Rivers, Delta, Cross River; and one North Central state – Benue.

According to the agreement document which the ECOWAS court adopted as its consent judgment, two firms, RSB Holdings Nigeria Limited and Deminers Concept Nigeria Limited, were said to have been contracted in 2009 to carry out demining exercise in the war affected areas.

Part of the terms of the settlement stipulates that the federal government “undertakes to pay, without delay, compensation in the summer of N50 billion in full and final sum to the victims, their families and communities as contained in Schedule 4(1) to this terms of settlement”.

“That FG undetakes to the pay of a total sum of N38 billion as contained in schedule 4(2) to this terms of settlement for the purposes of carrying out total demining and destruction, rebuilding of public buildings, mine centre activities, construction of class rooms, provision of prosthetics and all other activities enumerated thereunder,” the court ruled.

“That the federal government undertakes to complete the demining and deconstruction of landmines and bombs in the Nigeria civil war affected states of south-east, south-south and part of the north-central of Nigeria covering eleven states as contained in schedule 1 to this terms of settlement.

“That the federal government undertakes to mobilise the 4th and 5th respondents back to work to complete the final phase of the ongoing removal and destruction of post-war lethal materials, the 4th and 5th respondents having satisfactorily carried out the first phase of the contract.”

What Tinubu Told Journalists After Meeting With Buhari

Featured Image

A National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Asiwaju Tinubu, has told journalists, on Monday, not to ask him questions on the current clamour for President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election in 2019.

The former governor of Lagos state made this known during an interview with State House correspondents shortly after meeting behind closed doors with the President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

When asked whether he agree with different groups and individuals calling on Buhari to seek re-election in 2019, Tinubu simply said, “Don’t discuss that one with me.”

He however responded on other questions as he said his discussion with Buhari – which was pertaining the country and leadership – was fruitful and productive.

“I just met with the president. Our discussion was fruitful, productive and it was about the country and leadership as a whole. And that got him excited and happy,” he said.

“I have confidence in this president, there is no doubt about that. We worked hard to bring about the government, there are certain things that are unpredictable and those are things that can lean itself to gossips, insinuations and all of that.

“But once you create leadership and it is functioning, you don’t have to babysit that leadership unless there is a loss of confidence and I don’t have that.

“You know me. I’ve not known to shy away from talking my mind and rebelling if it is necessary and taking charge of things that I believe are necessary.”

Tinubu further described as “myth” the claims that he is not happy with the President because he has been sidelined by a cabal.

In his reaction to the report of a cabal in the presidency, Tinubu said:

“What is the myth in this leadership thing? What is cabal? It’s a myth.

“We are the party of the people for the people and by the people and this is a democratic environment. Each of us has our roles to play and that is why we are playing it.

“I don’t believe in the myth, I believe in confidence building, the trust that we have in the president. In the journey of democracy you are going to have twists and turns, you are going to have conflicts. Conflicts resolution mechanisms is inbuilt on how you handle your party and the governance and the party are joined by the hips.”

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the immediate dismissal of  the suspended Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Babachir Lawal, and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Mr Ayodele Oke.

Their dismissal came after the president studied the report of the panel headed by the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), which investigated allegations against the duo.

The president then accepted the recommendation of the panel to terminate the appointment of Mr. Lawal, and has appointed Mr Boss Mustapha as the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

It is understood that Mustapha’s appointment takes immediate effect.

President Buhari also approved the recommendation to terminate the appointment of Mr. Oke, and has further approved the setting up of a three-member panel to, among other things, look into the operational, technical and administrative structure of the Agency and make appropriate recommendations.

Alvaro Morata Claims He Would Never Have Left Juventus But For Real Madrid’s Buy-back Clause

Featured Image

Alvaro Morata claims he would never have left Juventus, had he not been ordered back to Real Madrid in 2016.

Alvaro Morata spent two seasons with Juventus , but the deal which saw him move to Turin from Madrid for €22 million in 2014 included a clause which allowed Los Blancos to sign him back for a fixed sum.

Aware that they would likely sell him on for a profit — which eventually happened this summer — Real Madrid activated that option in 2016, buying him back for a reported €30m in 2016, but Morata says he did not enjoy having to move back to Spain, telling La Gazzetta dello Sport that he would still be a Juve player now if he had been given a choice.

“There were contractual agreements to respect, but the disappointment was enormous — I found myself right back where I had started,” Morata said. “They treated me like the lad that I was before my two years in Italy.

“My two years at Juve were fantastic. I was just a lad when I arrived and I was a real footballer when I left. For a Spaniard, Italy is the best place to live. You’ve got all the beauty, history, art, good food and fashion.

“I would never have left Italy and Juve.”

Morata still scored 15 goals in 26 appearances for Real, and won La Liga and the Champions League before joining Chelsea in a move he said started to take shape before the end of last season.

“I came here because they have a coach like Antonio Conte,” he said. “We started to talk about me possibly coming here last spring and, in the end, I actually came to London. There were a series of situations that were favourable, starting with the coach — I knew Conte and I had no problems fitting into his ideas of football.

“[Conte] is demanding, but he gets the best out of his players’ strengths. You can tell that he knows what it is like to be at a big club, first as a player, then as a coach.”

Werder Bremen Sack Manager Alexander Nouri After Disastrous Start To Bundesliga Season

Featured Image

Werder Bremen have sacked head coach Alexander Nouri and his assistant Markus Feldhoff, the Bundesliga club have announced.

Alexander Nouri has paid the price for Bremen’s winless start to the season that has seen them slip to second bottom of the table after 10 matches, scoring only three goals.

The Bremen hierarchy met for talks on Sunday night, shortly after the 3-0 home defeat to Augsburg, and Nouri was informed of their decision before training on Monday morning.

The 38-year-old was promoted from his position as U23s coach to replace the sacked Viktor Skripnik in September 2016, initially as caretaker before signing a two-year deal.

“Alex was tasked with a very demanding challenge last season, and successfully mastered it. We’d like to thank him for that,” Bremen CEO Frank Baumann said in a statement published on the club’s official website. “He has what it takes to be a successful coach. I am convinced that he will continue on his path elsewhere.”

Six Persons Die As Farmers, Herdsmen Clash In Adamawa

Featured Image

No less than six persons have been reportedly killed in separate clashes between farmers and herdsmen in Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Premium Times reports that the first incident occurred on Wednesday when some herdsmen damaged a farm in Sangere, a suburb of Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

According to sources who witnessed the incident, a security guard, Gibson Nathan, who was engaged by the owner of the farm, challenged the herders for encroaching on the farm.

The herdsmen responded by “attacking and killing him,” a source, who is also a resident of the area, said.

The source added that the herders “hacked Nathan to death with their sharp axes beyond recognition before leaving the scene”

In the same vein, four members of the same family were reportedly attacked and killed in their farm by some herdsmen on Friday at Tudun-Hassan Village, adjacent to the popular Malkohi IDP’s Camp also in Yola South Local Government Area.

Trouble began for the farmers when a group of herdsmen led their cattle into the farm and began destroying the farm products.

“By the time they asked the rearers what informed their illegal action, the next thing was physical assault using dangerous weapons which resulted to their untimely deaths,” a witness, Baba Abdul, said.

He alleged that a policeman who was living close to the farm “rushed to offer help but was also killed by the herdsmen.”

There was yet another attack at Tashan Jinga Village also in Yola South Local Government as a group of herdsmen led their cattle into a farm

Residents, however, said the farmers sent a distress call to Agro-Rangers unit of the Nigeria Security And Civil Defence Corps,NSCDC, Adamawa State command.

The NSCDC team who arrived the scene were allegedly attacked with poisonous arrows by the herdsmen.

A witness said the bullets fired by the security agents appeared not to penetrate the herdsmen, adding “the situation made the defence corps to retreat back for re-enforcement but one officer had already sustained serious injury as a result of multiple cuts he received.”

He also said “the Toyota Hilux vehicle used in the operation was badly smashed by the herdsmen while one of their rifle was carted away by the herdsmen in the quagmire”.

Confirming the incident, spokesperson of the NSCDC in the state, Suleiman Baba, said:

“It was true that our men on rescue operation were attacked by some herdsmen along Yola area on Saturday.

He said: “The Agro-Rangers were ambushed on their way to the troubled farm. They (herdsmen) laid attack even before our men can take positions.

“During this fierce battle, two officers were injured and one was beaten with sticks and macheted and is being hospitalised at Yola Specialist Hospital.”

The Stars Come Out For AFRIFF 2017

Featured Image

The Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF,) the biggest film gathering this side of the Atlantic, kick-started its 7th Season in spectacular style, at a ceremony heavy on star wattage, Sunday night, at the Genesis Deluxe Cinemas, The Palms, Lekki, Lagos.

This year, there was a double dose of films, as the opening night selection consisted of one short film, ‘Waiting for Hassana’, an ode to the missing Chibok girls, abducted from their secondary school in 2014, directed by Ifunanya Maduka,  and the Zambian entry, ‘I am not a Witch’, helmed by Rungano Nyoni.

Both films were selected on the strength of their merits, as they highlight important topical social issues relating to African children.

Kemi Lala Akindoju, Wale Ojo, Uche Jombo, Linda Ejiofor, Hilda Dokubo and Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi were some of the A-list stars who made their appearance on the red carpet.

Others dignitaries include filmmakers and film entrepreneurs such as Biola Alabi, Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, Fred Amata, Zick Zulu Okafor, Kunle Afolayan, CJ Obasi, Belinda Yanga, Kenneth Uphopho, as well as media personalities like Shaibu Husseini and Ameyaw Debrah from Ghana.

Delegates from around the world were welcomed by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed who expressed his administration’s willingness to support the creative industry through grants, tax breaks and funding opportunities.

Mr. Herbert Wigwe, patron of the festival and Managing Director of Access Bank, which returns as lead sponsor pledged his- and his bank’s- support for filmmakers, especially through the AFRIFF/Accelerate Filmmakers Project, an initiative set up to help aspiring youthful filmmakers fast track their ideas and nurture them to reality. Wigwe also stressed the importance of film as a powerful tool for Africans to tell their own stories, separate from the usual story of poverty that has been championed by the Western media.

Representing the Governor of Lagos state, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, welcomed delegates to the centre of excellence and positioned AFRIFF as “one of the leading creative platforms in Africa that has been consistent, truly awe inspiring and which has found the Lagos arty landscape compatible with its own vision.”

Introducing the opening night films, former governor of Akwa Ibom state and current Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio gave a lengthy account of his efforts to bring the exaggerated problem of witchcraft, associated to children in the state to an end. According to Akpabio, his administration had succeeded through education, convictions and rehabilitation in halting the dangerous trend.

Also speaking at the event, French Consul General, Lagos, Mr. Laurent Polonceaux said; “This is a great opportunity for us because this is the first time that the French government is involved with Africa. We will be having two days at the festival for French films, with possibility of co-production with Nigeria and Africa.” He noted that it was good that the festival will be closing with the French film, ‘Felicite’, and disclosed that arrangement has been made to have about 70 film students for further training in France as an exchange programme with AFRIFF.

The Africa International Film Festival is an annual week-long, all-encompassing world class showcase running from October 29 to November 4, 2017.

About 200 carefully curated feature length, short, documentary and student films will be screened this year. The festival also encompasses talent development classes, industry workshops and inspiring creative discussions.

Senate Summons Police Chief Over Alleged Unpaid N6.5bn Revenue

Featured Image

The Senate Ad-hoc Committee on Alleged Fraudulent Activities in Collection, Accounting, Remittance and Expenditure by Revenue Generating Agencies on Sunday summoned the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, to appear before it.

The invitation came on the back of findings on a N6.5bn unpaid revenue accruing from the Lagos Trade Fair Complex.

The committee’s Chairman, Sen. Solomon Adeola, in a statement by his Media Adviser, Mr Kayode Odunaro, yesterday said others invited to appear before the committee are the Director Generals of Directorate of State Security, Bureau of Public Enterprise and National Council on Privatisation.

According to him, the essence of the invitation was to get the Police and DSS to assist the Federal Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Bureau of Public Enterprise in recovering the money, which had accrued for over nine years.

He said that the invitation was to also assist in ejecting the concessionaire of the Trade Fair Complex, LITFC, AULIC Nigeria Limited and recovering the complex.

NAN quoted him as saying that it had become necessary to recover the 322 hectares multi-billion Naira complex following a huge debt due to the N40bn lease fees.

Adeola quoted the Director-General of BPE, Mr Alex Okoh, as saying the concession agreement to AULIC Nigeria Limited was revoked in early September by the Federal Government.

He further quoted Okoh as saying all efforts to eject the concessionaire including the use of the Divisional Police at the complex and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission proved abortive.

Adeola said findings showed that “after the initial fees of N200m paid by the concessionaire in 2007 and another N12m, it has not paid a dime to the federal government, with outstanding revenue of N6.5bn.

“The concessionaire has bastardised the trade fair complex with hospitality and real estate businesses without approved plans.

“It is shocking that an individual or corporate organisation could operate so lawlessly, withholding federal government revenue, while contravening a government revocation order of his concessionaire agreement.

“What we need to do at this point is to recover the Trade Fair Complex from the concessionaire and subsequently pursue the issue of N6.5 billion unremitted federal government revenue.

“Since the local police cannot handle the ejection with the concessionaire still operating and collecting revenue using all manner of tactics including thuggery, we are inviting the IGP and DG-DSS to address this illegal challenge on the authority.

“I am surprised that anyone can flagrantly operate as if he is above the law and the government.’’

Ribery: Heynckes Gave Bayern Life

Bayern Munich winger, Franck Ribery has hailed thr instant impact Jupp Heynckes has had at the club.

Heynckes replaced Ancelotti earlier in October, following his sacking after the 3-0 loss to PSG and domestic stress.

Ribery has now hailed Heynckes, who has overseen six unbeaten games across three competitions.

“He’s breathed new life into the team and has welded us together,” he told Kicker. “He gives the players self confidence and speaks to us strongly.”

“I’m very happy he’s back, he knows what I can do,” he said. “When we met for the first time at Säbener Strasse, we fell into the arms, a special relationship, confidential, close, sincere, and Heynckes was responsible for it that I was so good in 2013.”

The Men Who Shouldn’t Be In Buhari’s Government – Fisayo Soyombo

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

This piece is laden with unsolicited advice. It ordinarily should not have been written, but for recent evidence that the quality of advice available to President Muhammadu Buhari is questionable. Friends of people in power often speak in hushed tones about how the President never listens, about how difficult it is to approach him much less sell an argument to him once his mind his made up. However, anyone who watched Okoi Obono-Obla, Special Assistant to the President on Prosecution, on Channels TV on Monday will agree that we can’t leave Buhari to his advisers.

This piece was written by Fisayo Soyombo. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

This list is inconclusive; it only profiles five or so Federal Government appointees who, with an ideal President in charge, would have already lost their jobs last week. As occasion demands, it will be torn à la Olusegun Obasanjo’s PDP membership card and replaced with new names. It took Buhari himself six months to assemble his ministers; therefore, it would be impossible for a journalist to gather the bad eggs in one fell swoop.

All names on the list earned a spot either by virtue of their role in or their analysis of the botched civil service recall of Abdulrasheed Maina, former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), who is wanted by the Nigerian Police, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the INTERPOL for multibillion-naira pension fraud.

OKOI OBONO-OBLA

Nigerians were still trying to make sense of Maina’s reinstatement when Obono-Obla appeared on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily to defend the indefensible, arguing that since Maina “had not been found guilty of any offence”, he did “not see why some people are outraged”.

Obono-Obla even substituted himself for Maina. “If the EFCC declares me wanted, that does not mean that I have been adjudged guilty,” he said. “It is only a court of competent jurisdiction that can adjudge anybody guilty.”

Obono-Obla must have been red-faced a few hours later when Buhari ordered Maina’s disengagement from the civil service. Being a lawyer and the presidential adviser on prosecutions, Obono-Obla should have known that the court could not have declared guilty, a man who fled  trial.

Had Buhari sought Obono-Obla’s advice before acting, he would have been encouraged to keep the fugitive in service until conviction by the courts that he was running away from. People like Obono-Obla do not belong in Buhari’s government; people like him are enemies of the people — enemies of poor, aged pensioners who have been denied the fruit of their labour by the greed of a few people among whom, according to the EFCC, is Maina.

ABUBAKAR MALAMI

Abubakar Malami is still the Attorney General of the Federation? Shocking but not so shocking — because this is Nigeria. As has now been made public, it was an April 2017 letter from Malami that triggered a string of processes that culminated in Maina’s secret reinstatement. In that letter, Malami urged the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) to “give consequential effect to the judgement that voided the warrant of arrest issued against A.A. Maina, which formed the basis for the query and his eventual dismissal”.

Malami’s letter is misleading. Contrary to the AGF’s letter, the arrest warrant was not the basis of Maina’s dismissal from service in 2013. Rather, it was his abscondment from duty. The undercurrents of Malami’s action are not all public yet, but there is scant truth in his claim that he was guided by “law and public interest”. Malami’s interests are private.

Unfortunately for the ‘change’ regime Buhari professes to be running, a figure like Malami, sympathetic to the course of persons of questionable character, will constitute an albatross to the anti-graft cause. Since Malami could not advise Maina to first clear his name in court as precondition for his reinstatement, the AGF should follow the fugitive through the exit door.

ABDULRAHMAN DAMBAZAU

Bravery is one of the hallmarks of the Nigerian soldier. Maybe because this virtue is limited to the battlefield, or perhaps because he has since retired (as a Lieutenant-General), Abdulrahman Dambazzau didn’t have the courage to own up to this involvement in Maina’s recall. Once the secret affair was blown open, Dambazzau rushed to the media in an attempt to pass the buck to the Head of Service (HoS) and the FCSC. Not only did he pass the buck, he pretended as though he was merely a distant observer in the matter.

“The office of the Head of Service and the Federal Civil Service Commission are the two bodies responsible for issues relating to discipline, employment, re-engagement, posting, promotion and retirements of Federal Civil Servants,” Ehisienmen Osaigbovo, his media aide, said. “It is understood that Maina’s last posting was with the Ministry of Interior, and that is probably why he was re-posted to the ministry.”

After Malami’s letter, the FSCS forwarded the matter to the Ministry of Interior, which decided, at its Senior Staff Committee (SSC) meeting of June, 22, that Maina should be reinstated. Dambazzau was fully in the know.

Buhari might be wondering by now if it would have been best to have altogether left Dambazzau out of his cabinet. After his removal and premature retirement by Goodluck Jonathan in 2010, Dambazzau resurfaced with Buhari in the lead-up to the 2015 election. Having headed the security committee of the APC campaign organisation — and given his long-standing relationship with Buhari — Damnazzau was an early favourite for appointment as Buhari’s National Security Adviser (NSA) — until questions about his past stewardship resulted in his movement to the less prominent interior ministry.

Maina’s recall isn’t his first flirtation with controversy. It is still a mystery how he wasn’t implicated in the arms deal probe of the current government, having been Chief of Staff for two of the five Jonathan years when the military served as conduit for diverting public funds to private pockets. There are allegations that the probe report was doctored to shield him. But there can be no shielding for the Maina case; Dambazzau’s friendship with Maina should be allowed to continue blossoming — but only outside the government.

LAWAL DAURA

On whose orders have the Depart of States Service (DSS) been providing security for Maina since his covert return to the country? Unless Daura can satisfactorily answer the simple question, this will be one mess too many for the DSS, bearing in mind the flimsy report on which it advised the legislature against Ibrahim Magu’s confirmation as substantive EFCC Chairman.

And even if he explained that away, how would he, the role of the DSS in how Maina managed to evade airport alerts each time he sneaked into the country in the past? All these events can’t be mere coincidences; it is either Daura has not been doing his job or he hasn’t been doing it well. Can Buhari ever dismiss his friend from Daura, in favour of a more responsible DSS? A real test!

GARBA SHEHU

After two years in office, Garba Shehu, one of Buhari’s two spokesmen, is still obsessed with Jonathan. To Shehu, “some influential officials loyal to the previous government may have been the invisible hand in the latest scandal that saw the return of Maina to the public service, despite being on the EFCC’s wanted list”.

Shehu views Maina as “one of the monsters created by the former PDP government, and which are still rearing their ugly heads long after the Party was soundly defeated in the 2015 elections”.

We thought Shehu’s announcement of rat infestation at Buhari’s office was the worst we would get, but this

MUHAMMADU BUHARI?

President Muhammadu Buhari will himself deserve a place on this list if more than one of these men retain their office by the time the Maina probe is done and dusted. It is one thing for a President to have the wrong hands in government; it is another for him to possess the balls to replace them.

By ordering Abdulrasheed Maina’s dismissal from civil service, Buhari merely played to the gallery. If he is genuinely interested in fighting corruption, the facilitators of Maina’s reinstatement should be sacked as well. Unless the masterminds of Maina’s backdoor recall have been dealt with, Buhari is just glossing over the matter.

And this is not too hard to do. Even Jonathan, the one widely believed to be weak, fired (albeit reluctantly) Stella Oduah as Minister of Aviation, following her indictment by two panels that probed the purchase of two bullet-proof cars for N255m and the approval of N643m for the purchase. If a weak civilian did this, it can’t too much to expect from a stone-cold retired Major-General. If he can’t dismiss his underperforming appointees, then Buhari is the number-one enemy of his own government.

De Bruyne: City Cannot Go Unbeaten

Featured Image

Kevin De Bruyne does not see Manchester City making it through the Premier League season, without losing any match.

City are currently topping the Premier League table with five points and are yet to lose any match this season.

The Cityzens have scored 35 goals in 10 matches this season, with a goal difference of plus 29.

City’s form has seen them being compared to Arsenal’s invincible squad of 2003-04, but De Bruyne does not think it possible.

“To go unbeaten? Well, it’s very hard. I don’t think it will be possible,” said De Bruyne, whose City are away to Napoli in the Champions League during the week.

“The level of competition is so high, in every team. It’s not like, with all respect, 10 or 15 years ago where you have a couple of teams that won’t win against the top teams.

“Now, every game is hard and you need to be mentally there. And with the Champions League and all the cups, there will be a game where maybe we are a little bit less and maybe lose. But as long as it keeps going, it’s good.

“Obviously, if you win a lot of games it’s good for us. You keep maintaining pressure. Hopefully we can have two good games this week and go into the international break unbeaten and it will mean we put a lot of pressure on the rest.”

David De Gea Waiting For Improved Manchester United Contract Offer

Featured Image

David de Gea is reportedly waiting to hear from Manchester United as to when he will receive a new contract offer.

David De Gea is rumoured to still be a top target for Real Madrid, two years after a deadline-day switch to the Spanish giants fell through.

De Gea has two years left to run on his existing £190,000-a-week deal and, according to the Daily Star, he is willing to commit beyond 2019 if his wage demands are met.

United are currently focused on thrashing out terms with a number of out-of-contract players, however, with seven first-team stars free to leave the club at the end of the season as things stand.

The report suggests that De Gea, who has kept eight clean sheets in 10 Premier League games this term, will eventually be offered a contract putting him on a par with £275,000-a-week teammates Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku.

Isco has admitted that Real Madrid must get their act together following their surprising defeat at Girona, but insists that the champions should not be written off just yet.

The 2-1 loss at the Estadi Municipal de Montilivi on Sunday afternoon leaves Real Madrid third in the table and eight points adrift of Barcelona

Unlike consistent title rivals Barca, Real Madrid have now dropped 10 points against Valencia, Levante, Real Betis and Girona in the first few months of the season.

Isco has warned that his side’s title chances should not be discredited entirely, however, as they have proven strength in adversity and know what it takes to bounce back.

“Nobody should say Real Madrid are dead because we have shown that we always come back,” he told beIN Sports. “When things are going well it is very easy to say we are a great team, now we have to really prove it. But it is clear that we cannot continue like this.”

Jose Mourinho Disappointed With Manchester United Fans

Featured Image

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has admitted that he was “a bit disappointed” with the lack of support given to striker Romelu Lukaku from the fans during the 1-0 win over Tottenham.

Romelu Lukaku has seen the goals dry up in recent weeks following a blistering start to life at Old Trafford, failing to net in any of his last five games since the last international break.

Lukaku’s latest blank came in Saturday’s league win against Tottenham as he once again struggled to get going against a top-four rival, leading to audible groans from the home stands after a couple of sloppy touches.

Speaking after the match, Jose Mourinho said: “I would like the supporters to explain to me why they don’t support him so much because he gives everything and I think it is not fair when scoring the goal or not scoring the goal he makes the whole difference.

“I don’t think it is fair at all. So, I’m a bit disappointed – but not with him. With him I am very pleased.”

Many also jeered when matchwinner Martial replaced Marcus Rashford, which again left Mourinho questioning his own supporters.

“I really don’t understand some reactions why. Are [the fans] Red Devils? Sometimes I don’t know because [Lukaku and Martial] work amazingly well,” he added. “There were two strikers playing together against three top central defenders – the best we have in Europe – and their work was amazing.

“He scored with a bad shot but a bad shot sometimes can be a beautiful one. Sometimes [Martial] starts the match and his contribution is good. Maybe he is not scoring as many times as he does coming from the bench, but he is playing well, the same as Rashford, the same as Lukaku. I really don’t understand some reactions why.”

Featured Image

The date for the installation of the National Coordinator of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Otunba Gani Adams, as the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land has been fixed for January 13, 2018.

OPC Leader Gani Adams Replaces MKO Abiola As Yoruba’s Aare Ona Kakanfo

Adams’ Director of Media and Communication, Femi Adepoju, issued a statement as regards to this on Sunday, October 29, 2017.

He said, “The palace of the Alaafin of Oyo, Iku Baba Yeye Alase Ekeji Orisa, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, has scheduled the installation of the Aare Ona Kakanfo-designate, Otunba Gani Adams as the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo for January 13 2018.”

Adoju further disclosed that details of the installation programme would be announced at a later date.

Adams was proclaimed the  15th Aare Ona kakanfo by the Alaafin on October 15.

While explaining the choice of Adams as the Aare Ona Kakanfo, Oba Adeyemi had said the national coordinator of OPC was chosen after considering his antecedents as a Yoruba man, who had exhibited passion for defending his people, their culture and tradition.

Mr. Adams is expected to replace late business mogul and politician, Moshood Abiola, who died in July 1998 in the detention camp of the late military dictator, Gen. Sani Abacha, in 1998 for refusing to trade his presidential mandate for freedom.

Since the demise of Abiola, the position of the Aare Ona Kakanfo (Generalissimo), head of Yoruba warriors had been vacant until yesterday (Sunday) when a letter of appointment was given to the OPC leader by Oba Adeyemi.

Sarri: With Over 90 Points, Napoli Can Win Serie A

Featured Image

Maurizio Sarri believes Napoli has to surpass the 90 points mark to dethrone Juventus as Italian champions.

Napoli continued their dominance and held on to their three-point lead, after a 3-1 win over Sassuolo.

Sarri’s side are highflying in the Serie A at the moment, scoring 32 goals conceding eight. And are yet to lose any match domestically, winning 10 and drawing one.

“Right now, the forecast is a bit improbable. I don’t think the top teams can continue to keep this pace,” Sarri said.

“Many smaller team will get new players or they will find their game. Going forward the games will be different, harder. This pace is destined to slow down, not just for us but for any team looking to win the title.

“The feeling though is that we will need to have more than 90 points to win the championship.”

ISIS Issues Chilling Threat To Messi, Neymar Ahead Of 2018 FIFA World Cup In Russia

Featured Image

The Islamic State (ISIS) seems to have focused its beam on the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia as Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar and Barcelona star Lionel Messi have been seen in a horrid poster that can easily send a shrill down anybody’s spine.

In one of the horrifying photoshopped images – which has gone viral on the internet – a terrorist can be seen standing behind a crying Neymar on his knees with his hands tied behind his back beside an ISIS flag while Messi appears to have been executed.

One of the caption reads “you will not enjoy security until we live it in Muslim countries.”

It is very obvious that these clearly morphed photographs (in the tweets above) are a threat to the Football World Cup scheduled to begin next year in June, 2018.

Neymar and Messi are both set to be two of the stars of the tournament, having qualified with Brazil and Argentina, respectively.

The threats against Messi have been taken seriously by the Argentina Football Association, with Andrew Gilpin of the Daily Mirror reporting that the organisation’s president, Claudio Tapia, has met with the Russian ambassador to discuss safety measures.

Russia’s second largest city is no stranger to terrifying attacks after a briefcase bomb detonated on the underground in April killing 14 people in an ISIS claimed attack.

It remains to be seen whether the threats are valid or not.

Wenger: Sanchez Is Still In It

Featured Image

Arsene Wenger says he has no problems with Alexis Sanchez’s attitude and commitment and expects him to find his form soon.

The Chile international is not in top form this season, netting only once and providing just two assists.

He has a contract that expires at the end of the season and has been linked with Manchester City. Wenger has now backed Sanchez to improve ahead of Sunday’s clash against City.

“I think he’s coming back stronger physically,” the Frenchman told UK newspapers.

“He runs after goals at the moment so he’s a bit frustrated when he doesn’t score, like all the goalscorers. I’m not worried about it, he works hard and that will come back quickly
.
“You can never try too hard. At the moment he’s marked well, they double up on him, but he still creates many dangerous situation.

“He needs to not worry too much. I know when you say that to the strikers they still worry but on a longer period he has always scored goals. That will come back.”

“I am not concerned. I am not suspicious of the performances or the desire to win of a football player,” he said.

“When you are a player you have a social contract with the rest of the team and I never question that. Once you don’t respect that, it’s difficult to say that you play football.”

“It’s not the last game or the final where you would say, ‘OK, after that it’s holidays’.

“We must analyse and take the best decision for everyone.

“We will assess him and then we will make the best decision. My feeling is good. But it’s not my feeling, it’s Harry Kane’s feeling.”
