The Paradox Of Untutored Teachers And A Certificate-Less President By Remi Oyeyemi

I have been following the public reactions to the disclosure of mass failure by the school teachers in Kaduna State. I have watched with incredulity the usual vacuous righteous indignation of hypocrites on our public pedestal. I have been trying to ignore the whole seemingly ridiculous scenario and concentrate on other matters deemed more important.

This piece was written by Remi Oyeyemi. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of

But it has been difficult for me to do so. My conscience keeps nagging me and asking why am I trying to miss out on this teaching moment. This teaching moment to point out once again that in the course of building and elevating a polity, it is a dangerous and destructive act to be inconsistent about your moral thermometer. I believe it is an opportunity to underscore the fact that unequal application of standards, moral or any other, would always contribute to general decadence, moral stagnancy and gradual gallivanting into gutterish and gibberish genre of guesstimation of our core values.

I have listened to the moral hypocrisy of my former “friend” and current Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam El Rufai. His sanctimony has been souring my senses. I have felt repulsed by his selective moral purity and questionable sense of duty to the people of Kaduna State. I marvel at his miasmic amnesia as he mulled his machinations to maul the teachers of the State out of employment.

I am reminded of his expose on the intellect of Alhaji Mohammadu Buhari as one of the few officers who never passed any military examination in his career. I am reminded of his explanation that Alhaji Buhari never had a PSC after his name like other Army Generals of his generation. I am reminded of his heartfelt plea to Nigerians never to vote for Alhaji Buhari because he (Buhari) did not have what it takes to govern Nigeria.

Then, fast forward to the days and months leading to the presidential elections of 2015. His volte-face on his opposition to the same Buhari became mind-boggling. Simply because he would benefit from Buhari’s installation as president his support became legendary. Knowing fully well as attested to by his previous analysis that Buhari is a congenital failure, El Rufai help brought upon Nigeria the woes of a Buhari Administration.

This was despite the fact that Buhari could not produce the evidence that he passed or at least sat for the West African School Certificate Examination (WASCE). Up till date, despite hiring thirteen Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) he has not been able to convince any court of competent jurisdiction that he had or has any WAEC paper anywhere. Even the dates provided that he (Buhari) attended High School suggested that he began Elementary School in his mother’s womb!

El Rufai and his fellow APC goons told Nigerians that it didn’t matter if Buhari had nothing to show to prove that he had minimum qualification for the office of the President. In a manner akin to the odious trivialization of matters of national interest, El Rufai and his co-travelers, either wittingly or not, marketed the idea of a NEPA BILL CERTIFICATE, if held by Buhari, would have been good for Nigeria.

As a result of desperation for power, the powers – that – be in APC of which El Rufai was more than an eminent and prominent member, facilitated into the Nigerian presidency, a personality that has no qualification to be an unarmed security guard. In their conspiracy against the well being of Nigeria in the name of power politics, they foisted what has come to be regarded as a monumental tragedy on the people of Nigeria.

Some apologists of this tyrannical administration have been trying to convince us that two wrongs do not make a right.Well, maybe not mathematically. But then, this is why holding the teacher’s feet to the fire by El Rufai is a welcome development. But the kind of fire to which their feet are being held by El Rufai is a matter of serious moral issue. It calls to question the issue of justice and equity within the process and before the law.

If two wrongs do not make a right as “righteously” posited by the apologists of this Buhari administration, then what is good for the goose should be good for the gander. If Buhari, without any certificate, could be in Aso Rock messing up Nigeria, then the Kaduna teachers, no matter how woefully they failed in their tests, deserve to remain on their jobs.

In the interest of the kids in all Kaduna Schools, it is important that the teachers are held accountable. But such accountability should not include the loss of their jobs. It is my position that the Government of Kaduna State should invest in their re-education and bring them up to par in their capacities. Moreso, these teachers, unlike Mohammadu Buhari, at least have certificates, the quality of such certificates notwithstanding.

El Rufai has no moral right to take away the jobs of those Kaduna teachers. He is obligated to ensure that they remain in their jobs and receive capacity improvement training. His so doing would be part of his atonement for his political sin against Nigeria, a country which he had sacrificed on the altar of expediency and personal exigency.

“In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger. I do not shrink from this responsibility – I welcome it.

Kennis Music Advises P-Square To Settle “Rift And Save Music Career”

The Chief Executive Officer, Kennis Music, Kenny Ogungbe, has advised P-Square to urgently resolve their differences and raging rifts, in order not to ruin their music careers.

Kehinde Ogungbe popularly known as Kenny

Kehinde Ogungbe popularly known as Kenny

Ogungbe gave the advice on Saturday during an interview with newsmen on the sidelines of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) 2017 in Lagos.

Come And Beat Me, Idiot! | Video Of PSquare In Physical Disagreement Goes Viral (WATCH)

It would be recalled that news was awash sometimes ago with reports of the breakup of the two music stars – 35-year-old identical twin brothers – Peter Okoye and Paul Okoye, after irreconcilable differences.

Buhari Writes Paul And Peter: The Unity Of P-Square Is Non-Negotiable

Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, also recorded that “P-Square is a Nigerian R&B duo of identical twin brothers, Peter Okoye and Paul Okoye.”

“They produced and released their albums through Square Records. In December 2011, they signed a record deal with Akon’s Konvict Muzik label.”

“In May 2012, they signed a record distribution deal with Universal Music’s South African branch.”

“On Sept. 25, 2017, numerous media outlets reported that the group was disbanded. Reports about a breakup surfaced after Peter reportedly sent a termination letter to the group’s lawyer.”

“Prior to this report, the duo disbanded in 2016, supposedly over a disagreement about the role of their manager.’’

Speaking on the matter, Ogungbe said:

“The fighting between the P-Square will not bring out anything good; they are brothers and have produced over 100 songs, but they are fighting, it is going to affect their music.”

“I don’t care about what anybody says, it is a bad development for them; they should settle whatever they have against each other.”

“Most Nigerian musicians are very pompous and have no respect; they derive pleasure in fighting which always leads to their downfall. “For me, I want all Nigerian musicians to be successful, that is what I want and pray for. They should succeed.’’

“The way I want Nigeria music to go is the same way you want Nigeria music to go. I want it to progress and beautiful.”

“I want more artists to make more money so that we can have successful artists; that’s my prayer for Nigeria music industry.”

“Most Nigeria musicians making waves now are not better than those in the remote, but they must do more to be heard.”

“For me as a producer, I will pick those I know that can make a wave and elevate me competitively, because there is a lot of competitiveness in the industry now.’’

Chelsea’s Ethan Ampadu Can Mature Into A Player Like Rio Ferdinand – Chris Coleman

Featured Image

Wales coach Chris Coleman has claimed that Chelsea teenager Ethan Ampadu could ultimately follow Rio Ferdinand’s path of developing into a world-class centre-back.

Ethan Ampadu, 17, made his Wales debut in Friday night’s international friendly against France.

The former Exeter City youngster played in central midfield for his country, while he has also operated in that position for Chelsea during his two EFL Cup appearances this season.

Coleman, however, has said that the youngster could eventually develop into a centre-back in the mould of former Manchester United and England great Ferdinand.

“He’s capable of playing both [positions]. His frame, athleticism, and understanding of the game, he’s a great communicator for someone so young. So at the moment it’s a tough one to call,” Coleman told reporters.

“He could end up playing holding midfielder or as a centre-back. He’s got a long way to go before you can liken him to someone like Rio Ferdinand but I remember him coming on at West Ham in midfield, he gravitated into a centre-back.

“Probably, in the last 20 years, Rio has been the best centre-back in the Premier League. Your modern day centre-backs start play and you need to be confident in possession. He’s [Ampadu] a good communicator and a good all-round player.”

Barcelona Willing To Sell Up To Three Midfielders To Free Up Space For Philippe Coutinho

Featured Image

Barcelona are willing to part ways with three midfielders to free up space and funds to sign Philippe Coutinho and Matthijs de Ligt in January, reports Mundo Deportivo.

Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho and Ajax defender De Ligt are key targets for Barca, who are considering moving on midfielders of Rafinha, Denis Suarez and Arda Turan, although they are yet to receive offers for the trio.

Brazil international Rafinha, who is currently injured, wants to leave the club in search of first-team action elsewhere ahead of next summer’s World Cup. Barca are aware of this but are unsure whether to sell him permanently or loan him out instead.

Suarez, meanwhile, rejected a move to Napoli last summer in order to succeed at the Nou Camp and is not considering leaving the club in January.

Turkish midfielder Arda does not form part of coach Ernesto Valverde’s first-team plans and is attracting interest from his former club Galatasaray.

Barcelona To Delay Signing Of Yerry Mina

Featured Image

Barcelona will not sign Yerry Mina before the end of the season, even though the Colombia international has received various offers from the Premier League.

The La Liga leaders have a preferential option in place with Palmeiras to sign the centre back, although they have opted against activating that option in January, when he would cost them €9m.

For the January transfer window, Barca coach Ernesto Valverde wants a central defender who is already accustomed to playing football in Europe and Mundo Deportivo reports that they will instead activate their option to sign Mina, for an increased fee of €10m, in the summer instead.

Yerry Mina, meanwhile, has received various offers from the Premier League to leave Palmeiras in January, with unnamed clubs willing to pay €20m to secure his services.
Barca are not concerned about this interest from elsewhere as they have agreed a pre-contract with the player already and have an option in place with Palmeiras.

“If You Vote, You Will Die” | IPOB Threatens Residents Ahead Of Anambra Election (VIDEO)

Featured Image

With barely a week to the governorship election in Anambra State, the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has threatened residents with death if they come out to vote.

Marching around some major streets in Onitsha, Anambra State on Friday, November 11, members of the embattled pro-Biafra group vowed to disrupt the election, which is scheduled to hold on Saturday, November 18, 2017.

In the video above, which was obtained by Sahara Reporters – and many more that have circulated the social media – some members of the group can be heard threatening voters.

They said, “If you vote you will die. Don’t go out, stay in your house. If you vote on November 18, you will die. We are not running around for the zoo.

“There will be no election. We will not participate, we will not vote. Nothing concerns us with any election. We are formidable.

“We are in Onitsha to tell the Federal Government to produce Kanu. They should release all the Biafrans in Nigerian prisons.”

Speaking with newsmen, IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, explained that the demonstration in Onitsha was to let the world know that “the threat of bullet” would not stop the group from realising its aim of having Biafra Republic.

His words: “Today in Onitsha, we broke the python Buratai, Ohanaeze, Obiano and Igbo governors brought to our land. Anybody doubting the resolve of IPOB under the supreme command of Nnamdi Kanu is mistaken.

“We will put Anambra State on lockdown on November 18. This is a taste of what is to come. Nigeria should be prepared.

“It is also very critical to inform every Biafran, be you IPOB family member, businessman, farmer, artisan, driver, teacher, doctor, motorcycle/tricycle union, civil servant, trader, market leader, National Union of Road Transport Workers, National Association of Road Transport Owners, fisherman, market men and women, including politicians who believe in freedom and liberty of a free independent State of Biafra, to boycott the Anambra State election.”

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police Command has via its Public Relations Officer, Nkeiruka Nwode, said the IPOB march was of no effect, as the state police command had concluded arrangements for effective policing of the state during the election.

In the same vein, the Force spokesperson, Jimoh Moshood, warned the IPOB members to steer clear of the state during and after the forthcoming governorship election, in their own interest, saying the police would deal with IPOB members “the way an outlawed group should be dealt with.”

He said the police were fully on the ground to ensure a hitch-free and violence-free poll, adding that battle-ready operatives including police special forces, anti-riot personnel, and counter-terror squad had been instructed to deal with troublemakers.

“They (IPOB) should steer clear of Anambra because we have deployed enough personnel in the state; any miscreant who misbehaves would have himself to blame as he would be dealt with. IPOB should not test our will or resolve,” Moshood cautioned.

Similarly, the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, which covers the South-East region, has placed its troops on the alert to forestall any security breakdown in the Anambra governorship election.

Nigeria Police Force Reacts To Ranking As Worst In The World

Featured Image

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reacted to the latest ranking by the International Police Association and the Institute for Economics and Peace, which puts it at the bottom of the world police formations.

The 2016 World Internal Security and Police Index (WISPI) had rated the NPF as the worst police organisation in the world.

The ranking measured the ability of the Police to address Internal Security Issues in 127 Countries in four key areas of Capacity, Process, Legitimacy and Outcomes.

The report was released by the International Police Science Association and the Institute for Economics and Peace based on the assessment of 127 countries.

The indices used in the assessment include capacity, process, legitimacy and outcomes, which the group said was meant to measure the ability of the security agency in a country to respond to internal security challenges, both now and in future.

WISPI in its report said the NPF performed worst on all the four parameters with a score of 0.255, ranking 127 below Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Uganda and Pakistan.

It read, “There are 219 police officers for every 100,000 Nigerians, well below both the index median of 300, and the sub-Saharan Africa region average of 268.

“This limits the capacity of the Force to measure up to its law and order mandate.

“In terms of process, legitimacy and outcomes, the story is not different; which makes the Force to fall short of the required standards.”

However, in a statement issued earlier today, the NPF described the assessment as unempirical and instead proclaimed itself one of the best in the world.

“Nigeria Police Force is the best in UN Peace Keeping Operations, Best in Africa, One of the Best in the World. The Force rejects the report as unempirical and absolute falsehood, should be disregarded and discountenanced”, said the police in a preface to their statement of objection to the report .

“The Nigeria Police Force after a careful study of the report and the news items emanating from it, wishes to state categorically that the report is entirely misleading, a clear misrepresentation of facts and figures and essentially unempirical, considering the area of coverage of the report which was said to have been carried out in 2016 by the above mentioned associations.

“The report did not take into cognisance the significant improvement in the areas of Capacity Building, Training and Re-training of the entire personnel of the Force as provided for by the current Federal Government of Nigeria and other Foreign and Local NGOs which has greatly improved the efficiency and service delivery of the personnel of the Force throughout the country.

“It is pertinent to state that the instruments used to evaluate the performance of the Force vis-à-vis that of other countries is absolutely incorrect and grossly inadequate and therefore a plain distortion of facts and figures. The strength of about Three Hundred and Seventy Thousand (370,000) Police Personnel in the country stands at around One (1) Policeman to less than Six Hundred (600) people in a population estimates of One Hundred and Eighty Millions (180,000,000) Nigerians.

“It is equally significant to state that the current recruitment of additional Ten Thousand (10,000) Police Personnel into the Force by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the request by the Inspector General of Police to Government for approval of the recruitment of Thirty One Thousand (31,000) Police Personnel yearly for a period of 5years will definitely increase the strength of the Force to meet up with the UN ratio of One (1) Policeman to Four Hundred (400) citizens.

“Furthermore, in the UN Peace Keeping System, the Nigeria Police Force is rated as the best in UN Peace keeping operations in the world. This clearly shows that the Nigeria Police Force is not and cannot be the worst in the world under any known scientific yardstick or measuring instrument.

“Currently, the Nigeria Police Force is one of the only two African Delegates representing the whole of Africa continent on the executive committee of Interpol, a position the Force attained based on high performance, merit and sustained good track records.

“For avoidance of doubt, since the inception of the present Police administration in July 2016, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim K. Idris NPM, mni, he has introduced and implemented diverse internal reforms aimed at improving capacity building and efficient service delivery of the personnel of the Force, which is yielding positive results in the standardisation of the capability of the Nigeria Police Force to deal with violent crimes and terrorism throughout the country. The establishment and take-off of a world class Terrorism Investigation Bureau for the Force with state-of-the-art equipment and technical support from foreign partners has greatly improved the capacity of the Force to deal with threats posed to internal security in this regard.

“However, it must be pointed out that the Nigeria Police Force sees the report as a clear demonstration of mischief, ignorance and calculated attempt to distort the feat being recorded by the Force in ensuring adequate security and safety of Nigerians. Nowhere in the report were references made to either the improved capacity or achievements recorded by the Nigeria Police Force across the country in the recent time, the Force therefore implores all Nigerians and international community to disregard the report as unfounded and misleading.”

Lukaku Pleased With Matching Belgium’s Goalscoring Record

Featured Image

Romelu Lukaku has revealed his joy at equalling the goalscoring record of Belgium after a brace against Mexico.

The Manchester United striker scored a brace in the 3-3 draw against Mexico, with his second goal rescuing a draw after Lozano’s double salvo.

Romelu Lukaku is now level with Paul Van Himst and Bernard Voorhoof on 30 goals for Belgium and can set a new benchmark by converting against Japan on Tuesday.

“I was born for this,” Lukaku is quoted as saying by Het Laatse Nieuws. “I just want to score as many goals as possible.

“I’m glad I matched the record. I knew I’d do it. I want to break the record before 2018.

“But I really hope that this generation wins something. I want to get a trophy for this country.”

He added to La Une: “It’s a dream, even if I’m a little disappointed with the result. For our fans, we should have done everything to win this game, but the Mexicans were effective.

“Paul Van Himst was someone who helped me a lot at Anderlecht. To equal his record, it is a source of pride. He remains the best Belgian player of all time and I have a lot respect for him.

“I always have confident in my ability. When you work hard it is rewarded, but the most important thing, as I always say, is the team.”

that young music industry practitioners must be ready to learn and get their ‘teeth into the matter’. He also said that African artistes must
have the global music space in mind while working on their music.

Micheal Ugwu advised that Intellectual Property is important for every artiste in the digital age. Ugwu noted that record labels makes $4 million a day from streaming. “It is critical to have a great lawyer or a great legal team” he added. There are things such as DMCA, content IP to protect copyright ownership but digital space gives the space of massive reach as well as massive infringement.

Africa Music

MD Trace TV, Nigeria,Samo Onyemelukwe

Samo Onyemelukwe said that capacity development in the entertainment industry in Africa is part of the goals of Trace TV. He said that it is one of the reasons why it partnered with AFRIMA 2017. He encouraged music artistes to develop a huge local base at home instead of making huge music investments with worldwide tours. He stated that artistes and artiste managers ‘spend so much time on the outward appearance instead the nucleus of the music itself-which is ensuring the music itself is right’.

Orifa said that artiste managers need to answer the basic analytics to reach its audience. ‘Who your fan is, where are they—it is a world without borders but the fan base may be sitting here in Africa. How best you can reach them—is it on tours, the media’. Orifa also commented that the African Union must encourage a unified policy where African songs are not restricted to its country by national copyright policies.

He noted that streaming technology through its algorithms will suggest music content around the interest of the consumer, thereby making the industry a consumer-centric one. The fluidity of financial exchange through electronic channels has also helped access purchase to live music concerts.

Osinubi said that globally E&M is on a decline but projection on Nigeria shows that E&M industry will enjoy a 12.1% percent growth with technological advancements in the music industry. He agreed with other stakeholders that streaming, freemiums and audience centred promotions are some of the strategies used by players in the industry.  Albeit the stiff competition in the industry and the engagement of international music interest in the continent,
Osunibi is hopeful that once the government can create and enforce policies against piracy, the industry will grow exponentially.

Dr Sipho Sithole noted that African music must be appreciated as the foundations of popular music genres like Jazz, Pop and Blues, which was developed after the Trans-Atlantic enslavement. Beyond the cultural appreciation, African music ought to be paid for its intellectual property deposited in the archives of the West without royalties to the original creators of the music content. He is hopeful that with the celebration of African legends like Fela, Hugh Masekela, Manu Dibango, music artistes like Davido, Sauti Soul and Yemi Alade have a quantifiable and enviable heritage to contribute to.

Ibrahim El Mazned said that Africans need to collaborate more in the music business. He said that the current music infrastructure will not be able to involve the international markets. ‘The whole of Africa has five music markets while France has seven music markets’.  Mazned launched Visa for Music, a platform set to solve the collaboration challenges in the continent by exposing African music to the Middle East and the rest of the world.

Africa Music

Kennis Music, Nigeria, Kenny Ogungbe, Chairperson Moshito Festival South Africa, Artistic Director Timitar Festival Morocco, Brahim El Mazned, Dr Sipho Sithole, CEO, Laura Dave Productions

Kenny Ogungbe noted that the digital space is the future and that we must all move with the times in order not to be left out. He recounted the era of music CDs, ‘Those days, Eedris Abdulkareem slept under the bridge, 2Face shared a flat with Plantashun Boyz. The first song ever to be played on MTV was a song by 2face’ now you have all sorts of platforms where music artistes can earn money through the click of the button’.

Representing the MD, United Capital Securities Ltd, Jude Chiemaka, Wale Onusi, asserted that Nigeria entertainment industry contributes 95 jobs to the economy annually. This 1% job increase has pushed the nation’s GDP to 1.5 Trillion Naira and this growth is likely to double in few years. He noted that Music has become a business and the criteria for getting funding starts is the quality of the music, and the ability of artistes and managers to sell their dreams to investors in a business-like manner.

Meanwhile, Africans on the continent and in the diaspora are eager for the AFRIMA 2017 awards ceremony as the African-American Pop-icon, Akon and Cameroonian diva-broadcaster, Sophy Aiida will host the World Class music event at 6PM on Sunday, 12 November 2017, Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. Sacking Slaven Bilic Was A Very Tough Decision – Karren Brady

West Ham Vice-chairman Karren Brady has admitted that sacking Slaven Bilic was “one of the hardest” decisions the board has had to make.

West Ham parted company with Slaven Bilic last week following a poor start to the campaign that has left them 18th in the Premier League table.

Brady insists that, while Bilic’s task was made more difficult by the loss of key man Dimitri Payet at the start of the year, the board – comprised of David Gold, David Sullivan and Brady – had little choice but to swing the axe in the midst of some disappointing results.

“When we told Slaven Bilic we didn’t want him to stay as manager of West Ham, it was clear he was not going to argue with the decision,” she told The Sun. “No one likes to sack anyone. It’s not easy, especially when you genuinely like them, and I take no pleasure from it — but sometimes there is just no alternative. Everyone on the board enjoyed a good relationship with Slaven and supported him at every opportunity. We spent £100m on players since he joined — and no club outside the top six has spent more.

“Every pre-season requirement, every winter training break, every backroom member of staff, the complete refit of the training ground… whatever he wanted, we tried to deliver. He, in turn, was an honest man with integrity and intelligence and was furiously loyal to West Ham. So sacking this thoroughly decent man was one of the hardest things our board felt it had to do in 25 years in football.

“I think a huge majority of our supporters agreed with our decision. They, like us, remain as respectful of the 47-year-old Croatian as it is possible to be of a manager whose diminishing success in leading a good squad of players has placed the club in the relegation zone with the season almost a third through. Expectations at the London Stadium are far higher than that. We spent £45m in the summer buying experience in defence and goal threat in attack.

“Neither manifested itself. Rather, goals have poured into our own net to the extent that we have the worst record in the league — and we haven’t scored many, either. “In his first six months, when Dimitri Payet was inspiring the team with his Gallic brilliance, Bilic sometimes looked pensive, as though he thought this was a lucky break and might not go on. He never quite recovered after the player staged a strike and went back to Marseille. He began to run out of ideas as the team’s initial defiance to Payet’s behaviour faded and less than a year later the manager had also departed.”

Copyright Theft: “Jaywon, Simi, Remixed ‘Joromi’ Without My Consent” — Prof. Victor Uwaifo

In an exclusive chat with Vanguardngr, the one-time Edo State Commissioner for Arts and Culture, opened up to Showtime that Jaywon and Simi did not obtain copyright permission from him before recording a remix of his hit song, ‘Joromi’.

“They didn’t contact me before doing a remix of Joromi; but I’m like a father to them so I can’t begin to drag them to court, so let them make a living out of it, but at the same time it’s piracy.

I’ve heard it too many times on different occasions; it shows the quality of the music that has come a long way. As far as I’m concerned I’ve lived five lives (from one generation to the other), so if they want to appreciate and still appreciate me, it shows the quality of the music. .

It’s one thing to be an artiste and it’s another thing to stay on the scene for a long time; so I will not discourage artistes trying to remix or do another rendition of Joromi, but rather encourage them to give credit to the composer if they do”, he said.

Sepp Blatter Describes Hope Solo’s Sexual Assault Claims As “Absurd”

Featured Image

Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter has blasted Hope Solo’s claims he groped her in 2013 as “absurd”.

Sepp Blatter was accused of grabbing the former USA international’s backside at the Ballon d’Or awards bash four years ago.

But AP claim that Blatter has rejected those claims this morning after Solo told Portuguese newspaper Expresso he “grabbed my ass” at the prestigious event.

Hope Solo said: “I was in shock and completely thrown off.

“I had to quickly pull myself together to present my team-mate with the biggest award of her career and celebrate with her in that moment, so I completely shifted my focus to Abby.”

Representatives for Blatter, who was forced to quit his role as football’s most-powerful man in 2015 amid a bribery scandal, immediately denied the star’s claims as “ridiculous” before he spoke to AP this morning.

Antoine Griezmann Not Leaving, Says Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo

Featured Image

Atletico president Enrique Cerezo has played down suggestions Antoine Griezmann will leave the club in the near future.

Griezmann has been a key player for Atleti since joining them from Real Sociedad in 2014 and has consistently been linked with a move away from the Spanish capital club.
It was suggested during the summer that he will seek pastures new at the end of the season, but Atleti president Cerezo says the Frenchman wants to win trophies with his club.

Speaking to Marca, he said: “We have made a great effort to keep him [Griezmann] and all of the players. In these moments, the problem that Griezmann has had is that a series of new stories, that always arise, that say that the most important teams in Europe want him did not benefit him.

“Griezmann is and will be an Atletico player. He is an important player, he is at an important club and wants to win things with Atletico.”

Marseille Terminate Patrice Evra’s Contract

Featured Image

Patrice Evra has been banned from all UEFA games until 30 June 2018 and fined €10,000 for kicking his own supporter in the head during the Europa League clash against Vitoria SC.

Marseille have subsequently terminated Evra’s contract.

A statement on the club’s website reads: “By mutual agreement, Olympique de Marseille and Patrice Evra decided to end their collaboration. The player’s contract is officially terminated with immediate effect.”

“In such a context, the conditions were no longer met for Patrice Evra to accomplish his mission serenely and above all effectively. Both parties agreed and decided to discontinue their collaboration by mutual agreement. This incident also highlighted the unacceptable attitude of a small number of people who uttered insults and verbal threats. Such behaviours, which expose the club to sanctions, have no place in the stands of a football stadium and at Olympique de Marseille in particular, where love for his team and support for his players make the Marseille public the best 12th man in France.”

Jacques-Henri Eyraud, the Marseille club president, added: “Today there is sadness. For Patrice Evra first, who obviously understood all the consequences of his action and who will no longer be able to exercise his passion at Olympique de Marseille. For Marseille fans then, who are stigmatised because of the irresponsible behaviour of a handful of them. For the institution finally, whose reputation is tainted. Despite this incident, we are more than ever determined to demonstrate on and off the field that we are driven by the highest individual and collective demands.”

Lopetegui: Spain Must Make Use Of Time Together

Featured Image

Spain head coach, Julen Lopetegui believes national teams deserve more international breaks, but has urged the squad to make the most of their time together.

La Roja has already secured qualification for the Russia 2018, winning nine of their last ten matches.

However, Lopetegui is unhappy with the international breaks and would like more time with his team.

“We’re focused on our football right now, we’re getting ready for a World Cup,” Lopetegui told reporters on Friday. “We only have two international windows to do it, this one and another one in March.

“Both are great opportunities to keep preparing, to set our game style, to be together as a group, to compete and of course to keep improving with the World Cup in view.

“Of course I would like to have more international windows but that’s what we all have, us and the rest of national teams. We will try to make good use of the little time we have to stick together and face to difficult teams that might be direct rivals during the World Cup, two strong and difficult opponents that will force us to do our best.

“We have to take advantage of these international windows to clarify concepts of our game and be in the best shape for the World Cup.”
