Julian Draxler Not Thinking About Joining Bayern Munich

Featured Image

PSG winger Julian Draxler has insisted that he is committed to the Ligue 1 club despite being linked with a move to Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

Julian Draxler has been earmarked as a potential Franck Ribery replacement at the Allianz Arena and was tipped to leave PSG following the signing of Neymar in the summer.

“I am not thinking about leaving the club in winter or summer. I am in mid-season with PSG now and I am focused on the high aims we have,” he said.

“It is not a relevant moment now to think about my future. But, of course, the Bundesliga is always interesting.”

Draxler has made 39 appearances for PSG, scoring 12 goals and providing seven assists.

Report: Chelsea Want Luis Campos To Replace Michael Emenalo As Technical Director

Featured Image

Chelsea have approached Luis Campos – regarded as one of European football’s most accomplished talent scouts – to replace Michael Emenalo as their technical director, report The Times.

Luis Campos worked as a scout at Real Madrid during Jose Mourinho’s time in charge before taking on technical director roles at Monaco and Lille in Ligue 1.

Emenalo left his post at Stamford Bridge earlier this month after six years in the job.

Campos played a huge role in identifying and recruiting a host of young talent to the French giants.

His captures of Kylian Mbappe, Thomas Lemar, Anthony Martial, Benjamin Mendy, Bernardo Silva, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Fabinho helped Monaco to overthrown Paris Saint-Germain to capture the Ligue 1 title last season.

And they have also earned the club a huge profit in the transfer market after several of the starlets were sold.

Campos left the Principality last year to join up with fellow French top-flight outfit Lille, he is open to leaving and joining the Premier League champions.

Javier Hernandez Won’t Get Special Treatment At West Ham – David Moyes

Featured Image

New West Ham manager David Moyes has insisted that Javier Hernandez will not be afforded special treatment despite working with him previously at Manchester United.

The pair worked together during Moyes’ 10-month spell at Old Trafford although Hernandez struggled for regular game time, making just five starts in the Premier League during the Scot’s tenure in charge.

“He won’t be getting any special treatment,” Moyes said. “If he is scoring goals and working hard, he will be in. It will be the same for the rest of the team.”

Hernandez joined West Ham from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer and has scored four goals in 13 games.

David Moyes added: “He’s a top goalscorer, a brilliant finisher.

“It was difficult for him at [Manchester] United because I had Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck, Shinji Kagawa, so there was lots of competition.

“It was also the same for him when he was playing for Sir Alex Ferguson. But I’m looking forward to him coming back from the international break.”

I Almost Joined Real Madrid – Simon Kjaer

Featured Image

Denmark defender Simon Kjaer has revealed that he could have joined Real Madrid 10 years ago.

Simon Kjaer, who currently plays for Real’s La Liga rivals Sevilla, was wanted by Madrid for their reserve side Castilla back in 2007 when he was on the books at Midtjylland.

Speaking to Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet, the 28-year-old said: “I had the chance to be a Madridista, yes. At that time I did not understand why Midtjylland did not want it. But since then I have not lost a single moment of my career worrying.”

Madrid invited Kjaer to a trial and then offered €600,000 to sign him, but Midtjylland turned it down as they wanted more. The defender moved to Palermo a year later for €4m.

Col. Kinsley Samuel, Deputy Director Public Relations 7 Division of the Army, disclosed this in a statement in Maiduguri on Sunday.

Samuel said that six soldiers were wounded during the operation while dozens of the insurgents where neutralised by troops.

“Troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE in conjunction with the Nigerian Air Force on Operation DEEP PUNCH has within the past one week embarked on clearance operations to dislodge Boko Haram terrorists from their camps,” he said.

He added that the troops successfully cleared the terrorists’ hideouts at Talala, Ajigin, Mangzum, Abagajiri, Kafa, Dusula, Buk, Malumti and Abulam among others.

“Furtherance of the clearance operations, the troops on Friday, 10th November 2017 while acting on credible information that the terrorists were massing up at certain camps in fringes of Sambisa forest, advanced and cleared the insurgents at Shyadawe-Angwan-Fulani, Shyadawe-Angwan-Bula-Musa and Shyadawe.

“The troops captured two gun trucks, three motorcycles, many bicycles and a laptop containing valuable information. They also located a vandalised and unserviceable tank in one of the camps.

Lagos To Shut Headquarters Of Tax Defaulting Companies From Nov. 20

Featured Image

The Lagos State Government on Sunday said it would begin to shut the corporate headquarters of organisations that had defaulted in remitting statutory taxes to the government effective from November 20.

This disclosure was made today by the Commissioner for Finance, Mr Akinyemi Ashade, who added that some banks had failed to remit statutory taxes, including withholding taxes on banks’ interests for more than 10 years.

Ashade also disclosed that the government had resolved to resort to all lawful means to ensure compliance with statutory tax remittances.

“Any company found to have evaded tax will not be spared.

“It is in the interest of defaulting companies and their management to remit the statutory taxes to the state within the grace period to avoid embarrassment to them and their shareholders.

“All law abiding corporate organisations are advised to adhere to this directive as the state government has given enough grace period for them to remit their taxes.

“The government will on Monday, Nov. 20, commence the process of shutting down the headquarters of corporate organisations, including banks that have failed to remit statutory taxes to government coffers,’’ Ashade said in a statement.

He said that prompt payment of taxes would enable the government to provide the necessary infrastructure and improve the standard of living of the people.

“When people pay their taxes promptly, government is encouraged to do more.

“The administration of Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode has shown in the last two and half years that taxes paid are judiciously spent on projects that have impacted positively on the lives of residents,’’ the statement said.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s Talent Is Threatening – Gareth Southgate

Featured Image

Gareth Southgate says Ruben Loftus-Cheek has suffered at Chelsea because senior players have felt threatened by him.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has been at Chelsea since he was a child, but has struggled to break into the first-team at Stamford Bridge, and is spending this season on loan at Crystal Palace.

Southgate said: “He has been able to battle through difficult spells at Chelsea, training with senior players who recognise his talent so get into him in training.

“Have they kept him in his place? Yes, I imagine they probably saw the threat.

“This season going out and playing has helped him. In the early season I saw him and he showed flashes of what we saw against Germany. I think he can affect big matches like he did.”

He said: “I’ve known Ruben a long time – I think the first time I saw him was in an under-16 international.

“I’ve had plenty of long conversations with him over the years about the areas he is really strong in and the areas he needs to develop.

“He can probably add a little bit more quality in the final third. He can probably go and score more goals given some of the attributes he has, but I was really pleased to see the effect he had and to get a performance like that.

“When you see his physical size, you think you’ll see a certain type of player. Then I saw what you all saw against Germany – one that is so technically-gifted.

“He’s at his best receiving the ball behind the opposition midfield, driving towards goal and sliding passes into people. He can take the ball under pressure too which is a great skill to have.”

“He’s an unassuming, quiet, polite kid. I hope he takes huge belief and confidence from that because he’s shown what he is capable of.”

Diego Simeone Is Untouchable, Says Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo

Featured Image

Atletico Madrid’s president has called Diego Simeone “untouchable” amid reports linking him with the vacant Everton job.

Everton owner Farhad Moshiri is in the process of discussing who will replace former Toffees boss Ronald Koeman and the Simeone is the club’s top target, SSN understands.

Despite the relatively poor start to the season, Atleti president Enrique Cerezo insists the Argentinian manager isn’t going anywhere.

“I want to say this in a loud voice,” said Cerezo. “Simeone is untouchable at Atletico Madrid, for the players, for the directors and for the supporters. Having doubts about Cholo Simeone is not allowed here.”

Cerezo has said Atletico currently have their best-ever squad and, asked about that comment, he said: “I keep saying so. We are playing a game, and games are the way they are. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.”

Atletico have failed to win in the Champions League so far this season, having drawn with Roma, lost to Chelsea and then twice been held to draws by Qarabag.

“We could have scored four against Roma and then we had 14,000 chances against Qarabag,” he said. “It’s not just a problem specific to Atletico that players can be more or less clinical, but it’s a problem for a lot of elite clubs.

“I keep saying we have a fantastic squad, a wonderful coach and a phenomenal fanbase. That’s enough for me.”

Real Madrid have set aside €200m to sign Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain next summer

There have been numerous reports the Brazilian is unhappy in the French capital and that he has fallen out with PSG boss Unai Emery and striker Edinson Cavani. There have also been claims other members of the squad are unhappy with the preferential treatment Neymar receives.

Real have moved away from their Galactico policy over the last two years, but Zinedine Zidane’s squad has looked a little weak this season and Los Blancos president Florentino Perez wants to change that next summer. (Marca)

Atletico Madrid will make a move for Napoli forward Dries Mertens next summer if Antoine Griezmann leaves the club.

The Belgian has been a revelation since being moved into a central striking role last season. He notched 28 goals in Serie A during the 2016/17 campaign and has twelve to his name already this term.

Mertens turns 31 next May but that hasn’t put clubs off, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are also interested. (AS)

Barcelona are hoping to complete the January signing of 18-year-old Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt.

The Netherlands international has established himself as one of the brightest young centre-backs in European football over the past year and was part of the Ajax side which reached the Europa League final.

Barcelona want to have a long-term replacement in place for Gerard Pique, who is now 30, and believe De Ligt is the man for the job. (Mundo Deportivo)

Neymar is not the only man on Real’s wanted list as the club are considering a move for Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa.

The 23-year-old has been a Real Madrid transfer target in the past and the club have maintained their interest. They may face competition from Arsenal in the race to sign Spanish international. (Marca)

Javier Mascherano has again hinted he will leave Barcelona next summer. The Argentine’s contract with the club doesn’t expire until 2019 but he is considering one last move and could return to Argentina to play for his former side River Plate. (La Nacion)

Italy

Italy are lining up replacements for Gian Piero Ventura even if they qualify for next summer’s World Cup in Russia.

The Azzurri are on the brink of missing out on their first major tournament for 60 years after losing the first leg of their play-off against Sweden 1-0. Ventura will be given the chance to see out the tie, but Italy are planning for a future without the coach.

Carlo Ancelotti, who is out of work after being sacked by Bayern Munich, could be convinced into taking the role. (Gazzetta dello Sport)

Patrice Evra’s agent hasn’t ruled out the defender making a move to Napoli after he was sacked by Marseille for kicking a fan.

“He knows he made a mistake, but his career doesn’t end here,” Federico Pastorello said. “Patrice doesn’t see himself in Serie A again after his years with Juventus. We won’t rule anything out, not even Napoli, but I think it would be complicated.” (Gazzetta dello Sport)

Anderlecht midfielder Leander Dendoncker is an AC MIlan transfer target and the Serie A club could make a move for the 22-year-old in January. It is claimed Milan have been monitoring the Belgium international, who was the subject of Manchester United transfer rumours in the summer, since 2013 and could finally firm up their interest. (Tuttosport)

Former Chelsea midfielder Ramires will join up with Inter Milan next month to ensure he is fully settled ahead of his January loan move from Chinese side Jiangsu Suning. The Brazilian has been training with Chelsea over the last fortnight as he recovers from an injury. (Corriere dello Sport)

Lyon forward Nabil Fekir is becoming one of the most wanted players in Europe and Real Madrid are now among the many clubs chasing his signature. Fekir has scored twelve goals in 15 games this season and has attracted interest from Barcelona, Manchester United and Juventus. (SFR Sport)

Barcelona are ready to hand Samuel Umtiti a new contract amid interest from Manchester United. The centre-back’s current release clause stands at a modest €60m and, unsurprisingly, the Catalan club want that raised substantially. They’re willing to offer Umtiti a new deal which increases his release clause to €180m. (SFR Sport)

Nantes are hopeful captain Leo Dubois will sign a new contract in the coming weeks. His current deal with the club, who are managed by former Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri, expires at the end of the season. (L’Equipe)

Borussia Dortmund offered striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona in the summer after the club lost Neymar. The Catalans were scrambling to replace the Brazilian after his shock switch to PSG and had the chance to sign the Gabon striker. Benue Herdsman Commits Suicide After Losing 200 Cows To Hunger, Thirst

Featured Image

A Fulani herdsman has committed suicide by jumping into River Benue in the Logo Local Government Area of Benue State after he lost 200 of his cows to hunger and lack of water.

Speaking with The Punch on Saturday, the National Coordinator of Miyietti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Benue State chapter, Garus Gololo, disclosed that the deceased, Mohammed Abdulkadire, 56, killed himself after his cows died due to hunger and lack of water.

On November 1, the Benue State Government had commenced the implementation of its anti-open grazing law, leading to some herdsmen relocating to other states.

Gololo said since the commencement of the Benue anti-open grazing law, Fulani herdsmen had lost about 600 cows due to poor feeding and inaccessibility to water.

He lamented that Abdulkadire, who had 22 children, cried and jumped into the river out of frustration when he discovered that 200 out of his 500 cows had died where they were camped, looking for a means to relocate from Benue State.

He said: “The man killed himself simply because there is no place for his cows to graze. He was to relocate to the Awe LGA of Nasarawa State but information got to us that the area was occupied and no herdsman or herdsmen should cross over to the area again.

“We are calling on the Federal Government to intervene to quickly make provision for herdsmen in Benue State before they lose everything they have.”

“No Law Prevents Me From Having Romantic Affair With Any Policewoman” – IGP Replies Misau

Featured Image

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Ibrahim Idris, has disclosed that there is no law in the police that prevents him from marrying a serving female police officer.

The IGP further challenged the lawmaker representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District, Senator Isa Misau, who accused him of having an affair with a junior female colleague, to prove him otherwise.

Misau had on October 4, accused Idris of being romantically involved with a policewoman whom he gave special promotion.

The lawmaker told the senate that Idris married one Asta, a deputy superintendent of police (DSP), an act which he said contravenes the police act.

Thereafter, an ad hoc committee of the senate was set up to probe the allegations against the IGP.

This led to Idris’ appearance before the panel on Wednesday after the lawmakers had threatened to issue a warrant for his arrest.

He however did not respond to the allegations levelled against him by Misau.

But in a written defence he presented through his lawyer, Dr. Alex Iziyon (SAN), to the Senate ad-hoc committee investigating the allegations against him by the senator, the IGP specifically asked the senator to cite a section of the law that prevents him from having romantic relationship with a policewoman.

In the written defence, which was sighted by Sunday Punch, Idris said:

“Until he brings such section of the Police Act, it will amount to discussing the Inspector-General of Police’s private life, which ordinarily should not have been entertained on the floor of the Senate.

“It might be appropriate to remind the senator, whose mother retired from the police as an Inspector of Police and a father who retired from the police as an Assistant Inspector-General of Police, that the Inspector-General of Police is a Moslem and, according to Islamic Law, can marry four wives provided he can love them equally.

“The senator also alleged that the Inspector-General of Police is in a relationship with one Corporal Amina whom he claimed was promoted from the rank of Corporal to an Assistant Superintendent of Police within 12 months.

“This allegation is false and the senator is under obligation to give the full particulars of the female police (officer), where she is serving and her duty post. It is not possible to promote a corporal to the rank of an ASP except the officer has attended an in-service cadet course.”

ASUP To Embark On Indefinite Strike On Monday (Nov 13)

Featured Image

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has completed plans to embark on an indefinite strike with effect from Monday, November 13, 2017.

Another ASUU Strike Looms In Varsities – NASU, SSANU, NAAT Also Prepare To Down Tools

ChannelsTV reports that the decision was reached at the end of the National Executive Council meeting of ASUP held on Saturday at the Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna State.

The union said that the industrial action came on the back of the failure of the Federal Government to implement all the agreements it entered with the union since 2016.

ASUP further lamented that despite the long period given to the government to address some of the issues it raised, the government did not consider it necessary to address the demands for improved funding of polytechnic education in the country.

Speaking with pressmen shortly after the emergency meeting which lasted for several hours, ASUP President, Usman Dutse, and Zone A Coordinator, Kabiru Yunusa, who noted that the union had given government sufficient time to implement all agreements, said they had no choice than to embark on an indefinite strike after the expiration of the 21-day ultimatum issued earlier.

According to him, some of the demands include non-implementation of the NEEDS Assessment Report and shortfalls in personnel releases and withdrawal of allowances.

Others are non-passage of the amended bill of the Polytechnic Act, infractions in the appointment of rectors, as well as improving the conditions of state-owned institutions among other issues.

“The tepid response of government to the nine items identified as having debilitating effects on the health of the sector led the union into declaring one week strike in February 2017,” Dutse said.

“The strike, which recorded a very impressive compliance level, had immediate gains in the reconstruction of the governing councils of all Federal Polytechnics, as well as the constitution, inauguration, and commencement of the renegotiation of the union’s 2010 agreement with the government.

“Comrades, the 89th meeting of NEC of our union issued a 21-day ultimatum effective October 9, 2017 to the government (after collation of results of referendum from chapters) to address these issues satisfactorily.

“On October 24, a reconciliation meeting was convened by the Federal Ministry of Labour in Abuja. The ministry in the eye of the storm, the Federal Ministry of Education, was poorly represented that no memorandum of action was agreed on. This clearly shows the level of disdain and disrespect with which the issues of the sector are being handled by the relevant agencies.

“In view of the above, our union resolved in its emergency meeting of NEC on October 31, 2017 to commence an indefinite and comprehensive strike effective from November 13, 2017,” he added.

The news comes barely a day after lecturers in Colleges of Education under the auspices of Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) also threatened to embark on an indefinite strike.

360nobs had learnt that academic activities across Nigerian Universities may soon paralyze as the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is planning to hold its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

This is just as three non-academic unions in the university have also declared their interest for a fresh strike over the non-implementation of agreements reached with the Federal Government.

The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) are slated to meet next Tuesday to pick a date for the industrial action.

Nigerians Still Want Me Back | I Will Not Contest In 2019 Election – Jonathan

Featured Image

Nigeria’s former President Goodluck Jonathan has disclosed that he still gets calls from people asking him to contest the 2019 election.

In an interview with Dele Momodu, Ovation magazine publisher, the ex-president said he is moved to tears seeing people shouting “GEJ, we want you back” but ruled out the possibility of contesting again.

“I’m not God but I sincerely doubt the possibility,” he was quoted to have said in response to a question on the next election.”

“People come to me every day saying they want me back. I’m always moved to tears whenever I go out and see the huge crowds shouting GEJ, we want you, even in the north.”

“Instead of getting swollen headed, I actually reflect on my achievements and mistakes and feel humbled and feel very sober…”

“I have never been a man of inordinate ambition. I’m a man of very modest means. I hardly travel because of the logistical costs. I’ve played my part and I have moved on.”

Reacting to a question on what he would do if the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gives him its presidential ticket in 2019, he said:

“Are you not aware that our party has zoned the presidency to the north, and the chairmanship to the south?

“Even Fayose that has declared his interest may face big challenges because of the decision of our party.”

CBN Releases 2018 Economic Forecasts, Targets $40bn For External Reserves

Featured Image

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, has released the apex bank’s economic forecast for 2018, even as he announced that the country’s external reserves would hit $40bn next year from $34.3bn as of November 3, 2017.

Mr Emefiele made this known on Friday in the apex bank’s economic forecast for 2018, while also announcing that inflation rate might drop from the current 15.98 per cent to a single digit.

The Punch reports that he hinged his forecasts on the foreign exchange and exchange rate management policies of the apex bank in recent months, which has led to a drop of 65 per cent in the monthly food import bill of the country from an average of $5.5bn to $1.9bn as of June 2017.

The CBN governor released the forecasts at the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria Annual Bankers Dinner in Lagos in a speech tagged ‘Policy Options for Sustaining Nigeria’s Economic Upturn.’

According to the CBN governor, the economy has recorded some remarkable improvements in recent times and if the pace continues, the apex bank will adopt a growth-focused monetary policy stand that will see more credit to the economy.

Emefiele said, “We have also seen a significant appreciation of the naira from over N500/$1 to about N360/$1. In addition, we have seen stability in the rate for over six months now. I am glad to note that the exchange rate is not only stable, it is also converging across various windows and segments of the market.

“Since the establishment of the I&E Window, we have recorded about $10bn in autonomous inflows through this window alone.

“This reflects the effect of the increased transparency which that window accords the FX market and its benign impact of improving investors’ confidence and business sentiments. Our reserves have recovered significantly from a low of just over $23bn in October 2016 to over $34.3bn as of November 3, 2017.”

“Today, among the benefits of that policy is the considerable decline in our import bills. From an average of about $5.5bn, our monthly import bill has fallen consistently to $2.1bn in 2016 and $1.9bn by half year 2017. This is indeed commendable.”

“I expect that barring any unforeseen shocks, inflationary pressure will continue to ease; I believe that it may return to very low double-digit or high single-digit levels during the next year. Though the base effect had diminished, I expect that as the socio-economic factors that are driving food inflation are resolved, the inertia therein would dissipate and the pace of headline disinflation will grow.

“Foreign exchange reserves will continue to grow. Over the last 12 months, Nigeria’s FX reserves grew by over $10bn from just over $23bn in October 2016 to over $33bn in October 2017. It is my belief that if we remain resolute with our efforts, policies and actions, we can attain an FX reserve position of about $40bn by end 2018.”

“Exchange rate stability will continue. As we entrench and sustain the transparency in the FX market, as FX reserves accretion continues, and market confidence and improved sentiments remain, I expect that the exchange rate will not only be stable but would begin to appreciate against major currencies.

“The adverse competitiveness outcome, which such appreciation may entail, would be adequately mitigated by proactive policies to ensure that our balance of payments position is not undermined.

“Monetary policy stance could change when the underlying fundamentals become supportive. If the pace of disinflation becomes adequate and we see inflation at predicted levels, I am very optimistic that MPC may begin to see strong justification for an easing of monetary policy, which may further accelerate the recovery process.”

Drama As Wike, Amaechi’s Security Aides Clash In Port Harcourt (WATCH)

Featured Image

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, who is now the Minister of Transportation, have accused each other of assault after their security aides clashed in Port Harcourt on Saturday, November 11, 2017.

While Wike had claimed that he was attacked, Amaechi alleged that he was almost killed by the governors security aides.

A statement issued in Port Harcourt by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Electronic Media, Mr. Simeon Nwakaudu, alleged that the security agents who attacked Wike’s convoy were in the motorcade of Amaechi.

According to Nwakaudu, the governor was on project inspection when he was attacked at Nwanja Junction on Trans-Amadi Road, Port Harcourt.

The statement read: “The SARs Personnel and Soldiers in the Minister’s convoy hit down the Governor’s Escort Rider and attacked the policemen in the pilot car.”

“Also part of the attack, was the Commander of Rivers SARS, Mr Akin Fakorede who received the Minister of Transportation at the Port Harcourt L Airport and accompanied on his trip.”

“The Minister of Transportation had over 50 SARS Personnel, Soldiers and Mobile Policemen in his motorcade.”

“Mr. Wike was unhurt.”

However, Mr. Amaechi denied the claims, saying that “gun-totting security men attached to Wike’s convoy” surrounded Mr. Amaechi’s car, threatening to shoot him.

In a statement, the former Rivers governor said although he eventually passed through unhurt, his car was “vandalised with a broken side mirror”.

The statement said, “In a blatant show of naked raw power, the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, this afternoon narrowly escaped being shot by security men attached to the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike. His car wasn’t that lucky though. The car was vandalized and left with a broken side mirror.

“The incident occurred in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, along Trans-Amadi road, Nwaja axis. The minister had arrived Port Harcourt this afternoon (Saturday).

“Accompanied by cars of many of his supporters, the minister’s black SUV was intercepted and blocked at the junction by the security motorcycle outrider attached to Wike after two cars had passed through. One of the two cars conveyed security men assigned to protect the minister in Port Harcourt.

“Suddenly, security men attached to Wike’s convoy surrounded the minister’s car, threatening to shoot him. They hit the car, tried to smash the windscreens, windows and broke a side mirror. All through this attack, Amaechi remained calm inside the fortified vehicle. Wike also stayed inside his vehicle.

“The minister eventually passed through after the intervention of the security team on the ground to protect him in Port Harcourt.

“However, when Governor Wike got to the point where the incident occurred after Amaechi’s vehicle had gone, his security men blocked the road again, and thoroughly beat up a policeman attached to Amaechi in Port Harcourt. The policeman’s rifle was also taken from him.”

The enmity between the duo have strengthened since the 2015 election when the PDP took over power from APC in the state.

“Cristiano is better than Messi, yes,” the Spaniard told Globo Esporte ahead of Sunday’s Brazilian Grand Prix.
