Niasse: I Feel Sorry For Koeman

Featured Image

Everton striker, Oumar Niasse says he feels bad for sacked manager, Ronald Koeman, despite their poor relationship.

The Everton striker was frozen out after Koeman took over from Martinez, and was relegated to the youth team upon his return from loan.

However, after a poor run of games for Everton, the Dutchman was sacked and Niasse is pleased with how he was reacclimatised with the squad.

“I feel sorry for him [Koeman], what happened to him when the club got rid of him,” Niasse told Sky Sports.

“Honestly, they were ready to let me go.

“I was ready also to go because I knew that it would be a difficult season if I stayed here but at the end I didn’t go.

“I said thank you to him because he could have said ‘no, you are staying with the U23s’ but when I came back he brought me back to the team.

“That has allowed me to be here today.”

Gian Piero Ventura Sacked By Italy After Failing To Qualify For The World Cup

Featured Image

Gian Piero Ventura has been sacked as Italy head coach.

Italy lost 1-0 on aggregate to Sweden in their World Cup play-off to miss out on the tournament for the first time since 1958.

Gian Piero Ventura has had his contract terminated following a meeting of Italian FA (FIGC) bosses on Wednesday, and Italy will now begin their search for a successor, with a friendly match against England at Wembley on March 27 their next fixture.

“During the course of a meeting called by FIGC president Carlo Tavecchio, an examination was launched following the failure to qualify for the World Cup in Russia in 2018,” a statement on the FIGC’s website read. “As the first point on the day’s agenda, Tavecchio announced that, as of today, Gian Piero Ventura is no longer the coach of the national team.”

Ventura’s record as Italy coach was 10 wins, four draws and three defeats in 17 matches

Not going to Russia is a problem and we’re not stupid enough not to realise that,” Ansa reported Renzo Ulivieri, the president of the Italian Coaches’ Association [AIAC], as saying prior to Wednesday’s meeting in Rome. “In view of such a result, the whole system needs to be questioned. It would have been wrong [for Ventura] to resign in the heat of the moment — it’s always best to meet first.”

360nobs understand Carlo Ancelotti has been approached by the Italian Football Federation about taking over.

Nigeria’s VP, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Shares Inspiring Success Story Of A Former UNILAG Typist

Featured Image

Nigeria’s Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, while delivering a speech recently, shared a story of a hardworking junior typist he met while working at the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

In his address, he was talking about the importance of having a good character and used this inspiring story to illustrate his point.

Here is an excerpt:

I was 60 years old in March this year. And I must confess that it was one of the greatest surprises I ever experienced. I just suddenly became 60.

And at the age of 60 I am entitled to give some advice and l will share some of them with you, some you might agree with, others you may not, but I would be most flattered if you remember them and whenever you meet me in life’s journey somewhere down the line you will tell me whether I was right or wrong.

The difference between success and failure, mediocrity or excellence is character.  Along with character is the importance of opportunity but perhaps most crucial is the grace of God.

While I was teaching at the University of Lagos as a young lecturer in the department of Public Law in the Faculty of Law, there were 3 typists in the department. The chief typist, senior typist and the junior typist. Because in those days before laptops and personal computers, typists in Universities had to do a lot of work and they were very important because you always needed to type all your materials.

When there was work to do, what l discovered was that the chief typist would disappear. He worked only till 4 pm. The senior typist would be nowhere to be found. But Adereni the junior typist, who only had his school certificate, was remarkably hardworking. Sometimes I would drop him off at his home at 1am.

Years after, I was working as an adviser to the then Attorney-General of the Federation, Hon. Bola Ajibola. And he later became a judge of the World Court. While in the court at The Hague, in the Netherlands, one day he called me and asked if I could recommend a good secretary who is hard work and  could do long  judgments. I had three options, Chief typist, senior or this junior typist, but the junior typist at a time had only school certificate he didn’t have any other qualification but l choose him. He got to the Hague, and typically worked hard and diligently. Every judge in the court wanted him to work with them. He later moved his family over to the Hague and got degrees and made a good living for himself. One day he remembered me and actually sent me a car.

I just want to say that it was so apparent that all that he had to prove despite the fact that he had no qualifications at all, all he had to prove was diligence and hard work.

Alex Iwobi Explains Reasons For Choosing Nigeria Over England

Featured Image

Alex Iwobi has revealed that his family played a big part in his decision to play for Nigeria instead of England.

Alex Iwobi appeared for England in the youth ranks but opted to play with Nigeria in 2015.

Iwobi has scored four goals in 14 appearances for Nigeria since joining the side at Under-23 level.

“I was growing up in England and England was the only national team I knew, so I was actually very pleased to play at national level,” Iwobi told Soccer Laduma.

“However, my family are all from Nigeria, I was born in Nigeria, my uncle (Jay-Jay Okocha) is a legend in Nigeria.

“That’s why I thought I would give it a chance. That’s why I went to the Under-23s and somehow felt more welcome, and I thought it’s where I belong, so I made the decision to switch.”

Alex Iwobi netted twice in Nigeria’s 4-2 win over Argentina in Tuesday’s international friendly.

Manchester United Face Battle In Convincing Marouane Fellaini To Stay

Featured Image

Manchester United are reportedly fearful of losing Marouane Fellaini as a free agent next summer as they have hit a roadblock in his contract talks.

Marouane Fellaini , wanted by Besiktas and Valencia, is able to start talking to foreign clubs from January over a Bosman switch at the end of the campaign.

United boss Jose Mourinho is said to have launched a charm offensive earlier this month in a desperate attempt to persuade the midfielder to remain at Old Trafford for another year, but Sky Sports News reports that his public ploy has not worked so far.

Fellaini has instead knocked back the offer of another contract extension, it is claimed, and the Red Devils now have their work cut out convincing him to turn down lucrative wages and more regular playing time elsewhere.

Real Madrid Hold Talks With Torino Over Andrea Belotti

Featured Image

Chelsea have been dealt a huge blow in their attempts to sign Andrea Belotti as Torino president Urbano Cairo says he has spoken with Real Madrid counterpart Florentino Perez about the striker.

Speaking at an awards ceremony in Milan, Cairo said: “I was eating dinner with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and we were talking about contracts of players with huge release clauses and I mentioned Belotti.

“As soon as he heard of the clause for Belotti, who he didn’t know, it pricked his ears. If the clause had only been €20m, he wouldn’t have been interested.

“Belotti is an exceptional lad and he’s loved by everybody. He’s always kept his feet on the ground and remained humble, even when he’s had a €100m (£89.7m) price tag slapped on him.

“He needs to be relaxed and he told me that he has not even thought about (the clause) even when he put pen to paper on his new contract.”

Virgil Van Dijk Focused On Southampton – Mauricio Pellegrino

Featured Image

Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino says Virgil van Dijk will be 100 per cent focused in this weekend’s trip to Liverpool.

“I don’t think it will be difficult because Virgil knows he is focused 100 per cent on our team and is training well,” he said. “He wants to improve his performances because obviously he was injured in (January) and then he didn’t play any games.

“Obviously we cannot control the (transfer) market and every single transfer window clubs are looking to buy our players. But we are looking for players to try to improve our squad too. It’s part of our job.

“Football today is a big business – and we have to understand this. Now clubs are fighting in the market to find the best player and we have a lot of good players – it’s part of our job. It’s no secret that sometimes players are distracted but it’s normal.”

Taylor Swift’s New Album ‘Reputation’ Sells 1.05M Copies In 4 Days

Featured Image

Taylor Swift’s Reputation album has sold 1.05 million copies in the U.S. over its first four days of release, according to initial sales reports from Nielsen Music.

“Reputation” is Swift’s fourth consecutive album to sell more than a million copies in its first week. Other big debuts include 2014’s “1989,” 2012’s “Red,” and 2010’s “Speak Now.”

It is understood that the star’s sixth album “Reputation” is the first album to sell a million copies in a tracking week in nearly two years, since Adele’s 25 sold 1.16 million copies in the frame ending December 25, 2015 (the album’s fifth week on sale).

Reputation was released on Friday, November 10, through Big Machine Records.

It was gathered that the country singer turned pop star kept “Reputation” off streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify for the first week of release.

Reputation, which sees the star delve deeper than ever before into the realms of pop and hip-hop, has received largely positive reviews from critics.

The Telegraph called it “a big, brash, all-guns-blazing blast of weaponised pop that grapples with the vulnerability of the human heart as it is pummelled by 21st-century fame.

NPR’s critic Ann Powers noted that Swift’s lyrics had matured, describing the stand-out track Getaway Car as: “A sure-footed step forward into the vagaries of grown up life.”

BBC Music’s Mark Savage said it was “her most sonically adventurous album yet”, while noting that moments where she lashes out at her detractors “don’t really lend themselves to big, singalong choruses”.

However, the New York Times’ writer Jon Caramanica questioned whether Swift had diluted her appeal by borrowing so heavily from other genres.

“In making her most modern album – one in which she steadily visits hostile territory and comes out largely unscathed – Ms Swift has actually delivered a brainteaser: If you’re using other people’s parts, can you ever really recreate your self?”

Here is his full speech delivered in the state capital, Abakaliki.

SPEECH DELIVERED BY HIS EXCELLENCY, PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI, PRESIDENT, FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA, AT THE STATE VISIT TO EBONYI ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 2017, AT THE ABAKALIKI TOWNSHIP STADIUM

PROTOCOLS:

I am delighted to be in Abakiliki today to interact with the good people of this State and indeed, the South East (Ndigbo) region as a whole.

  1. I want to express my gratitude to Ndi Ebonyi for their hospitality and warm reception since our arrival in Abakiliki a few hours ago.

  2. In the last few hours, I have commissioned some landmark projects and laid the foundation stones for the Ebonyi City Mall and a flyover bridge projects. I commend His Excellency, Governor David Umahi for his vision and commitment to the development of his State.

  3. In the course of my visit, I also had the honour and privilege of unveiling the statue of a great Nigerian, Sir Akanu Ibiam, whose notable records of humanitarianism, advocacy of free primary education and rural development, will continue to be an inspiration to all.

  4. I am also grateful to the people of Ebonyi as well as the South East traditional rulers, who today, bestowed on me traditional titles. To the Ndi Ebonyi, I am ENYIOMA 1 (Good Friend) and to the South East, I am OCHIOHA OF NDIGBO. I thank you for this honour and kind gesture.

  5. My presence here today is a demonstration of our strong belief in the unity of Nigeria. As the most populous country in Africa, with over 300 ethnic groups, our diversity is almost unique among nations.

  6. The people of the South East are known for their ingenuity, industrial and commercial talent. There is no part of Nigeria where you will not find Igbo entrepreneurs, both men and women, contributing to the development of their adopted communities.

  7. So I am asking you all not to buy into the senseless propaganda on secession. Igbo is Nigeria and Nigeria is Igbo. Both are inseparable.

  8. We must therefore continue to commit ourselves to the development of Nigeria. A Nigeria where we sustain our national unity without compromising on our cultural identities. A Nigeria where the aspirations of its people is guaranteed without prejudice to tribe or religion. A Nigeria, where we can sleep at night knowing that tomorrow will be better than today.

  9. The task of nation building is a continuous one. It never stops. Our founding fathers, from all corners of this country, worked together to actualize the creation of one Nigeria.

  10. After independence, the same founding fathers worked together to maintain this one Nigeria. Yes, they had differences and varied opinions at times. After all, they were only human. And yes, they had moments of weaknesses and doubt. But again, no one is perfect. However, one thing they all protected until the end of their lives was having one Nigeria for all Nigerians.

  11. Today, Nigeria is 57 years old. Nigeria has gone through many pains. But has also achieved significant successes. Its citizens are leaders in all aspect of human development. But we rarely celebrate these successes more. Some misguided Nigerians would rather channel their energy to propagating negative stories and senseless rumours.

  12. Over 60% of Nigeria’s population is under 25 years old. They have little knowledge of Nigeria’s journey. They were not born during the dark days of civil war and the nation rebuilding that happened afterwards.

  13. The task of nation building is a continuous one. It relies on the successful transition of factual knowledge from one generation to another. This means it is our collective responsibility to ensure we do not betray our founding fathers as we transfer the Nigeria project from one generation to the next.

  14. As our national anthem says; “the labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain”

  15. So parents, speak to your children about the importance of their heritage, culture and being open minded. Teachers, teach your students about the history of this nation and how it was a coalition of diversity that brought it to existence. And leaders, we must lead by example and show tolerance and acceptance of diversity.

  16. Today, most grievances expressed by all Nigerians, not only those in the south east, is lack of jobs, poor infrastructure and basic amenities. We are working aggressively to address these.

  17. We are building roads, hospitals and schools. We are expanding our power transmission infrastructure while supporting the generation and distribution companies to ensure more power is delivered to our homes. We are developing agricultural programs that will create more jobs while making Nigeria food secure

  18. For example, we recently mobilized the contractor of the 2nd Niger Bridge back to site. We have also made provisions in the 2018 budget proposal to ensure this project is completed as early as possible.

  19. We are also upgrading the Federal Medical Centre in Umuahia by constructing a Modern Medical Diagnostic Centre. This will further bring quality and affordable health care to the region.

  20. In the agricultural sector, the States in this region have participated in all Federal Government agricultural initiatives. For instance, Ebonyi was among the first few State Government’s to sign up to the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative. The program has already created thousands of direct and indirect jobs in this fertile part of the our country.

  21. I would like to congratulate Governor Umahi who put aside his political differences to participate in this federally led project that has improved the lives of not only the farmers of Ebonyi State, but the entire South East States.

  22. For the South East, I am pleased to inform you that our 2018 budget proposal has allocated up to N10 billion for the development of the Enyimba Industrial Park and Nnewi Auto Park. Both projects will be implemented in collaboration with the respective state Governments and the private sector. Again, these are classic examples of the partnerships between the Federal and State Governments in the region to improve the livelihoods of Nigerians – politics aside.

  23. In October 2017, we commenced the payment of pensions to police officers who were granted Presidential pardon in 2000 after serving in the former Biafran Police during the 30 month civil war. These officers, and their next of kin, have waited for their pensions for 17 years since the Presidential pardon.

  24. I want to assure the Ndigbo that the welfare and well-being of every Nigerian is important to us. We stand for inclusivity and will not leave any section or citizen behind.

  25. I thank you most sincerely for your attention and warm reception.

  26. May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Buhari Considers Appointing 8 New Ministers

Featured Image

In an attempt to make good the promise he made to the chieftains and loyalists of the All Progressives Congress (APC), President Muhammadu Buhari is considering a proposal to restructure some of the ministries, appoint eight new ministers and reshuffle his cabinet.

This Day reports that the move by the President to appoint the eight new ministers – strictly politicians – is to accommodate the yearnings of his party members, including its national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and at the same time position APC for the 2019 general elections.

Presidency sources privy to the proposal informed the news outfit on Monday that in order to accommodate the eight new appointees to the cabinet, the plan is to get the president to split the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing into three ministries that will be manned by full ministers, and hived off the aviation and marine transport units from the Ministry of Transportation.

One minister will man Aviation and another may lead Marine Transportation.

A presidency source who spoke on the issue said the proposal that has been sent to the president provides for the appointment of eight new ministers, one representing each of the six geopolitical zones in the country and one from Lagos (who may be a nominee of Tinubu) and Kano State (who may be a nominee of Rabiu Kwankwaso).

According to the source, all the new appointments will be done with the consultation of state governors.

“The proposal has been put together and sent to Mr. President for his final approval. It remains tentative for now, but if it meets the approval of the president, the announcement will be made public before the end of the month and the names of the nominees will be sent to the Senate for confirmation,” the source added.
