Italy

Inter Milan and Juventus are battling it out for the signature of Jose Gimenez, also a Liverpool transfer target.

The Uruguayan’s contract expires in June meaning he’s free to talk to clubs from January but reports in Spain claim he’s extended his stay with Atletico Madrid until 2020. Inter are in the market for a long-term successor to Miranda. (Calciomercato)

Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar has dismissed reports linking him with a move to Barcelona, claiming he’s fully committed the Serie A side: “I’m not interested in the market, I’m Inter and my goal is to play for Inter. I want to win it, I do not care about Barcelona.” (Mediaset Premium)

Juventus are hoping it’s third time lucky as they enter negotiations with Lyon over one of their midfielders.

The Serie A champions missed out on signing Maxime Gonalons (Roma) and Corentin Tolisso (Bayern Munich) last summer but are hopeful they can convince Lucas Tousart to join them at the end of the season. (Gazzetta dello Sport)

Spain

Neymar, the world’s most expensive player, has a €500m (£445.5m) release clause in his Paris Saint-Germain contract. It leaves the door open for Real Madrid to bring the Brazilian maestro back to Spain in the future to replace Cristiano Ronaldo as the poster boy for the club. (AS)

Barcelona are keeping tabs on Mesut Ozil’s contract situation. The La Liga leaders ideally want Philippe Coutinho but, if Liverpool refuse to sell the Brazilian playmaker, the Arsenal midfielder has been identified as an alternative. The 29-year-old is a free transfer in the summer and can open talks with clubs in January. (Mundo Deportivo)

Ahead of this weekend’s Madrid derby, Real boss Zinedine Zidane has somewhat of an injury crisis with Keylor Navas and Gareth Bale still ruled out. Furthermore, Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Isco, Luka Modric, Mateo Kovacic and Dani Carvajal are all 50/50. It couldn’t have come at a worst time for the Los Blancos boss with pressure mounting after a poor run of form. (Marca)

Diego Simeone has picked his starting XI for the match against Real Madrid. The Atletico Madrid boss kept players behind to examine videos on Thursday after training it is believed these are the ones who will start the match: Jan Oblak; Juanfran, Stefan Savic, Diego Godin, Lucas Hernandez; Gabi; Angel Correa, Thomas Partey, Saul Niguez, Koke; Antoine Griezmann. (Marca)

Manchester United transfer target Saul Niguez has talked about how his time with Real Madrid prior to moving to Atletico helped him mature as a player, and as a man: “I experienced a series of bad things, but I believe any 11-year-old could have that happen to them. At the time, people started to talk of atrocities. My time at [Real] Madrid was good for me because it made me mature, grow and realise many things.” (Marca)

Germany

Borussia Dortmund have had to discipline star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for the second time inside 12 months. Peter Bosz’s men are in a bad patch of form and the ex-Ajax manager needs everyone to be on the same page. It’s why when Aubameyang turned up an 30 minutes late to the team’s final training session before their match against Stuttgart tonight, Bosz had to punish him and drop him from the matchday squad. (Bild)

Bayern Munich have identified an alternative to Robert Lewandowski. The Polish forward is in fine form but can’t be expected to play every single game and beyond him the Bavarian giants don’t have a natural forward in their first-team squad. Hoffenheim forward Sandro Wagner is a Bayern Munich transfer target and they’re even eyeing up a move for him in January. (Bild)

France

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Kevin Trapp has opened the door to a potential move away from the Parc des Princes this winter as he hopes to make the German World Cup squad: “I have to play regularly again,” he said. “It is clear that I have to stay in goal if I want to go to the World Cup in 2018. I have not played PSG this season.” (Sport1)

Chelsea Have To Win Every Game – Antonio Conte

Featured Image

Antonio Conte has set his side the challenge of winning “every game” if Chelsea wish to retain the Premier League title this season.

Manchester City remain unbeaten in the league – dropping just two points – and have a nine-point advantage over Chelsea at the top of the table.

“If you want to try to catch them, you have to win every game,” Conte told reporters today. “But as you know very well in this league, it’s very difficult to win every game.

“You have a difficulty when you play against a team that is in the relegation zone. For example after the international break last time, we lost against Crystal Palace.

“I think we have to remember this and to understand that if you want to fight for the title, it’s very important to win and not drop any points.”

How Nigerian Scammers Stole $11M From The IRS – And Its One Of The Biggest Tax Frauds In U.S. History

Featured Image

A Nigerian man has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison for his role in the bilking of over $11 million via an identity-theft scheme from the Internal Revenue Service, the U.S. Attorney’s office for Oregon said Tuesday.

An IRS agent has said this is one of the largest tax fraud cases in the United States in which stolen personal identification information was used to defraud the IRS, First Assistant U.S. Attorney for Oregon Scott Erik Asphaug told The Associated Press in an email.

An IRS criminal investigation determined the co-conspirators obtained personal identifying information of more than 259,000 people, and used it to acquire over 19,500 electronic filing PINs from the IRS, the U.S. Attorney’s office said in a statement.

The co-conspirators obtained and used pre-paid debit cards with the stolen identities to receive direct electronic tax refund deposits. They eventually filed over 10,000 fraudulent federal tax returns, attempting to obtain over $91 million in refunds, with actual losses amounting to over $11 million.

Refunds were withdrawn from the debit cards and at least 2,000 wire transfers totaling over $2.1 million were sent to Nigeria.

For his role, Michael Oluwasegun Kazeem, 24, who came to the United States on a student visa, was sentenced in federal court in the southern Oregon town of Medford on Nov. 8 for conspiracy to commit mail fraud, aggravated identity theft and mail fraud, the U.S. Attorney’s office said Tuesday.

U.S. District Court Judge Ann Aiken also ordered Kazeem to pay $4.3 million in restitution.

The authorities got wind of the case when a Medford victim told the IRS in May 2013 that false federal and Oregon state tax returns were filed electronically using her and her husband’s names. The returns included personally identifiable information, including their social security numbers and dates of birth. The federal refund was deposited into an account via a prepaid debit card in a suburb of Chicago while the state refund was directed to a bank account in Texas.

In 2014, the co-conspirators also gained access to the IRS “Get Transcript” system where they obtained sensitive taxpayer information and used it to file additional fraudulent returns. In 2015, because of these and other security breaches, the IRS discontinued the “Get Transcript” program nationwide, the statement from the U.S. Attorney’s office said.

Last August, Kazeem’s brother, Emmanuel Kazeem, was convicted in Medford of mail and wire fraud, aggravated identity theft and conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud. Evidence presented at his trial showed Emmanuel Kazeem purchased over 91,000 taxpayer identities from a Vietnamese hacker.

The Mail Tribune, a newspaper in Medford, reported that tax returns were filed using 13,203 accounts stolen from CICS Employment Services, a company that performs pre-employment background checks and is based in Lincoln City, on the Oregon Coast. The owner of CICS said he lost $420,000 worth of business, and handled hundreds of calls from distressed victims, many with limited means, the newspaper reported.

Asphaug said no taxpayer was out monetarily as a result of the crimes, but that they caused a multitude of issues for taxpayers.

Michael Kazeem joined the conspiracy in 2013 to help his brother, who lived in Bowie, Maryland and Nigeria.

Emmanuel Kazeem’s sentencing is scheduled for March 22, 2018.

Michael Kazeem apologized in court.

“I’m deeply and emotionally sorry for the trouble I caused,” the Mail Tribune quoted him as saying. “What I did was wrong.”

He is to be deported after completing his sentence.

Tottenham Manager Mauricio Pochettino Hails ‘Fantastic’ Arsene Wenger

Mauricio Pochettino has showered praise on Arsenal managerArsene Wenger ahead of this weekend’s North London derby at the Emirates Stadium.

“Arsenal are a great team. For me, there is no favourites in this type of game. He is a fantastic manager. I respect him a lot and admire him,” he told reporters.

“In a derby its difficult to see a favourite. If you see the history Arsenal were above Tottenham and he deserves a lot of credit for that. To stay in a club five years is because you are a good manager, if you stay 10 years it’s because you must be very good.

“To stay more than 20 years you must be special. I admire him a lot. He is a very special manager but of course he knows better than what a derby always is. In the last 22 years we have finished above Arsenal only one time, it’s a massive challenge for us to stay ahead of them

Tottenham are unbeaten in their last six Premier League meetings with Arsenal.

Dorus De Vries Signs One Year Contract Extension With Celtic

The 36-year-old goalkeeper signed for the Hoops in August 2016 from Nottingham Forest, linking up again with Brendan Rodgers, having previously worked with the manager at Swansea City.

De Vries emerged as number one choice at Parkhead before a series of errors allowed Craig Gordon to take his place back between the sticks.

Since then, the Dutchman has had to settle for a place on the bench, impressing in a 1-0 win over Dundee last month.

But the 36-year-old has extended his stay at Celtic until 2019 after agreeing to a one-year extension.

Speaking to the club’s official website, de Vries said: “As a player you want to be at the best clubs and Celtic is certainly up there.

It’s a great squad to play in, great technical staff who are enjoyable to work with as well, and, for me, everything is here to keep on going and make sure that we keep bringing trophies to this club.

“Stevie Woods is a great goalkeeping coach. I worked with him in the past and it’s a great pleasure to be working with him again.

“Craig Gordon, Conor Hazard, Ross Doohan, and there are a couple of youngsters as well, are all great.

Tottenham Have To Lose Trophy Fear – Arsene Wenger

Featured Image

Arsene Wenger has claimed that Tottenham must overcome their “fear” and doubts if they are to end their 10-year wait for a trophy

Tottenham have not won a major trophy since lifting the League Cup in 2008 seasons.

While silverware may have been lacking, Tottenham did at least end a 22-year wait to finish above Arsenal in the league last season

“[You win trophies] by keeping your nerves and getting the players to focus on what is important. At some stages, by fighting a little bit against your inhibitions – the fear that you won’t get over the line. Basically you need to focus on what is important and not focus on the trophy too much,” the Frenchman told reporters.

“I was always more focused on finishing in the Champions League. When we had less resources financially I knew that we needed the money to pay the stadium back, so I was more focused on that than on Tottenham. I was never too focused on Tottenham.

“Today, people always take one situation and it is permanent. The judgement is definite, permanent and forever. It is down to us to change the opinions of people with our performances, I cannot say much more. If they have a perception like that they have a perception like that but how can you respond? Not by me talking here, we need to show on Saturday that it’s not true.”
