The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything — Albert Einstein.

In life, never say never. Nothing, really, is finite. On Tuesday November 14, I was discussing with a very senior journalist about why the opinion writing space should be strictly devoted to public matters; how the columnist should focus on public issues rather than himself; how, after writing every piece, I deliberately re-read to rephrase all expressions bearing the first person singular pronoun, “I”.

This piece was written by Fisayo Soyombo. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

That conversation held during an Ethiopian Airlines flight from Abuja to Johannesburg via Addis Ababa; little did I know that the return trip would be laced with an incident that would make me break this rule. What would you do if you were wronged and the offender looked you in the eye and said there was nothing you could do about it? Use all possible avenues to seek retribution!

When ‘Security Guards’ Are the Thieves

The return Ethiopian Airlines Flight ET911 arrived Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja — via Flight ET 858 from Johannesburg to Addis Ababa — around noon on Monday November 20. Tired after a journey — counting from the hotel — that lasted 18 hours, I dragged my checked-in luggage straight home. Next morning when I opened it, I discovered that my expensive Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR camera had been stolen. The thief stole the camera and left the pouch, battery and manual for me! Straightaway, I embarked on some Formula One driving to the Abuja Airport and promptly located the Ethiopian Airlines office. I still haven’t got over the nightmare that followed.

When I told the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) official in that office that I needed to speak with an Ethiopian Airlines official to complain about my stolen property, his reply was curt: “They are at the tarmac; go there if you want to see them.” By the time I started reminding him that I couldn’t be allowed anywhere near the tarmac since I wasn’t travelling, it was his back I was seeing, hands on the door, ready to abandon me in that office.

Luckily — no, unluckily, — a tall, dark and well-built Ethiopian Airlines official walked in just as the NAHCO official was exiting. When I narrated to him how I discovered that my property had been stolen, and my decision to lodge a formal complaint about it, he muttered some imperceptible words and said he had work to do. Before I could say Jack Robinson, Mr. Ethiopian Airlines Official was on his way out as well, leaving the door ajar and me inside. Never ever had I seen such blithe insouciance by a service renderer to a customer. At that point, I remembered the words of a NAHCO official in Lagos who I phoned the moment I discovered the theft. “Theft of travellers’ belongings is common at Nigerian airports; the airlines know about it, and NAHCO officials are a big part of it,” he had said. “Once they see it in the scanner that there are valuables in your checked-in luggage, they find a way to pilfer it. However, if you mount serious pressure on them, they will bring out your property.”

At that point, I became agitated and opted to launch a one-man protest. Within five minutes of my creating a scene at the airport lobby, a second NAHCO official fished out a complaint form, and it was handed over to me by the first NAHCO official. I was shocked to see this first NAHCO official calmly ask me questions about my travel and fill the answers on a separate form of his.

Then there was trouble. I filled the form and was already leaving when I realised I had no proof of ever filing a complaint. I asked to make a photocopy but the official said it was impossible. Then I asked to take shots of the form with my phone; this angered him. As I was taking a shot of it, he looked sternly at me and said: “You’re just stressing yourself. You see all these things you’re doing, filling form and snapping photos, nothing will come out of it. And there is nothing you can do about it!” That was after the Ethiopian Airlines staff had told me: “We’re just trying to help you.”

Ethiopian Airlines’ Long-running History of Luggage Theft

I was so distraught by the airport experience that I put up a Facebook post to vent my frustrations. Within 24 hours, five victims of property theft by Ethiopian Airlines showed up. The reaction from the airline has been the same: make them fill complaint forms, then cover the matter up. The examples are all similar. Apparently, Ethiopian Airlines has been stealing from its customers for years and getting away with it.

Seun Oduloye arrived Lagos on June 6, 2017, via an Ethiopian Airlines flight that connected Nigeria from Dublin via Addis Ababa, to the discovery that an entire luggage had vanished. In that big bag were, among others, three pairs of suit, 13 pieces of shoes, perfumes, wristwatches, ladies’ handbags, dresses and packs of chocolate. In the six months that have followed, what Ethiopian Airlines has done is to dribble her like Lionel Messi from one office to another. The airline also failed to reply all three letters from her lawyer.

In December 2014, when Temitayo Odusolu travelled from Bangui, Central African Republic (CAR), to Douala, Cameroon, with Asky Airlines, and then flew Ethiopian Airlines from Douala to Addis Ababa and also the same airline to Lagos, one of her three bags went missing. In that bag were close to 10 books, clothes, camera, and an expensive cloth gift from Ecobank CAR. In a few days, it will be exactly three years since the incident occurred; and despite filling a claims form and following up with different Ethiopian Airlines officials for many months, Odusolu has received neither a formal apology nor compensation from the airline.

On December 17, 2016, Oluwaseun Adepoju arrived Lagos from Hong Kong on an Ethiopian Airlines flight to the discovery that his bag had been opened and baby wears removed from it. Thinking that he encouraged the thieves by trusting Ethiopian Airlines enough not to padlock his bags, Adepoju decided to start padlocking his bags from then on.

However, when he flew Ethiopian Airlines (Flight No ET 901) again on November 5, 2017, from Hong Kong to Lagos, having been collected from a Cathay Pacific plane arriving Hong Kong from South Korea, the thieves struck again. He had two brown bags — one big, the other medium-size — both locked with a mini blue-coloured code. The code locks were forced out of the zipper handles, while the trolley handle of the small bag was forced out beyond repairs. Three shirts were missing from a stack of nine new shirts arranged in a white mall gift cellophane in the big luggage.

On July 17, 2017, a Nigerian who asked not to be named — because it was a business trip and his company policy forbids talking to the media — connected Nairobi via an Ethiopian Airlines flight from Addis Ababa. Upon landing, he discovered that his locked checked-in bag had been broken, and $750 stolen from it. He promptly lodged a complaint, but six months after Ethiopian Airlines has not refunded the money to him.

The Damage, the Demand

Incidentally, as I was complaining at the Abuja airport, aviation stakeholders were holding an ICAO World Aviation Forum (IWAF) meeting in Abuja, where five obstacles slowing down aviation and air transport in Africa were listed as: safety, market access, high fares and costs, infrastructure, and availability of finance. A sixth needs to be added: poor customer service. And for all the government’s noise about ease of doing business, nobody wants to travel to a country where checked-in luggage is unsafe or where, due to human errors/failings, theft or damage to luggage cannot be punished and the victim compensated.

This is a public call to the Consumer Protection Council (CPC) and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to pay more attention to widespread customer dissatisfaction with the aviation industry. It is not just the manner of delay and cancellation of flights that is worrisome, it is the I-don’t-give-a-hoot attitude to passengers. In 2015, I lodged a complaint with the NCAA over a premeditated six-hour postponement of a trip, without even a text notification, by Aero Airlines. Maybe tomorrow, after more than two years, someone at NCAA will call just to acknowledge it!

Finally, this is a public appeal to Ethiopian Airlines to return my stolen property, and also compensate Seun Oduloye, Temitayo Odusolu, Oluwaseun Adepoju and the anonymous passenger for their stolen items/luggage. It is not enough for my matter to be treated; all four others must be compensated.

Ajax Announce 5-Year Partnership With Chinese Super League Club Guangzhou R&F

Featured Image

Ajax have announced a new five-year partnership with Chinese club Guangzhou R&F with the aim of creating the ‘best youth academy in China’.

The deal will involve Ajax sharing their knowledge of developing a youth academy, a scouting department and talent development with Guangzhou through the Ajax Coaching Academy (ACA).

Ajax coaches will support the scheme and share the club’s philosophy with Guangzhou, who finished 5th in the 16 team Chinese Super League this season.

Edwin van der Sar, who is now chief executive at Ajax, said: “In recent years, we have been quite active in the Asian market.

“Youth is the core asset of our club and we are delighted that we can leverage our knowledge with an international partner like R&F.”

“It is well known that for a club like Ajax it is hard to grow in the current European football industry. With initiatives like ACA we create opportunities to make alternative steps forward.”

Nicky Wong, vice president of Guangzhou R&F, added: “Ajax is a club with rich history, honours and owns the best youth academy in the world.

“We are a young club, but we believe we share the similar philosophy as Ajax, on the way of playing football, on the attitude towards youth development. We really believe in a fruitful partnership.”

Guangzhou, currently managed by Serbian coach Dragan Stojkovic, finished fifth in the Super League last season.

Suspected Badoo Members Kill Redeemed Pastor In Ikorodu

Featured Image

Some assailants, suspected to be members of the Badoo cult group, have killed a man, Victor Kanayo, said to be the pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Fingers of God Parish, in the Igbogbo area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The pastor’s widow, Gloria and 10-month-old baby, Goodness, were said to have been found unconscious and were rushed to Ikorodu General Hospital by policemen from Igbogbo Division.

It was gathered that the attack occurred shortly after the state Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, held a meeting with security operatives, community and religious leaders at the palace of the Ikorodu monarch, Oba Abdulrasheed Shotobi.

The meeting, which started at 10 pm on Saturday was said to have ended around 1am on Sunday, due to the resumed onslaught of the cult group.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, the Badoo cult struck the Offin area of Igbogbo and killed the pastor while his wife and their 10-month-old child were said to have been brutalised with two big stones with which Kanayo was killed.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, said investigations were ongoing into the incident, adding that some suspects had been arrested in connection with the murder.

He said the police command was digging into the pastor’s past to be sure there was no connection between his past and murder.

Oti stated that the look into his past was a sequel to a human skull tattooed on the deceased’s shoulder, which detectives believe had cultism connotations.

He said: “Around 7 am, at Offin, Igbogbo, Lagos, a suburb of Ikorodu town, one Victor Kanayo, a male person and a pastor was murdered.

“The command has made a couple of arrests and suspects are being questioned with a view to discovering the author of the heinous crime. The Commissioner of Police has also dispatched a team of crack detectives to unravel those behind the murder, dig into the past of the victim and see if there is a correlation between his past and his fate.

“The issue of his past before he became a born-again Christian is of interest to the police because of a human skull tattoo drawn on his left arm which gives the victim away as one who may have belonged to any of the dreaded cult groups. The investigation into the case is ongoing. Findings will be made public as usual by the CP.”

Atletico Madrid may be willing to sell Juventus and Manchester United target Jose Maria Gimenez. The Uruguay international recently signed a new contract with Atleti but remains of interest to both clubs, who may be prepared to pay the 22-year-old’s £58m release clause. (Calciomercato)

Juventus have not given up hope of signing Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi. Bianconeri boss Massimiliano Allegri is keen to bolster his midfield and believes the former Stoke City man is the ideal fit. Paris Saint-Germain have moved ahead in the race to sign Manchester City transfer target Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean is out of contract at Arsenal in the summer and free to negotiate with clubs in January – and the Ligue 1 side are readying a pre-contract offer. The Parisians are also willing to meet Sanchez’s £350,000-a-week wage demands. (Calciomercato)

Zenit St Petersburg boss Roberto Mancini says managing Italy would be “a great honour and the ultimate dream”. Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi says he wouldn’t reply if he ever received a phone call from Real Madrid. The Argentine striker, who has 15 goals for the Nerazzurri this season, has been strongly linked with a move to the Bernabeu but refused to be drawn on speculation after guiding Inter to a 3-1 victory over Cagliari on Saturday. “We are in November and it is still early to talk about transfers. If I’d ever receive a call from Madrid I wouldn’t reply, there are other people in charge of it.” (Sky Sport Italia)

Spain

Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta insists Spanish football needs VAR technology as soon as possible after controversy on Sunday night. During the game between second-placed Valencia and leaders Barca, the officials failed to award Lionel Messi a goal after Neto fumbled the Argentine’s shot into his own net. The ball clearly crossed the line, but no goal was given, and the match ended 1-1. “It was clearly a goal, and everybody could tell, even from the goalkeeper’s body language,” Iniesta said. “Technology would be the best solution in those situations where there is no doubt, football needs that. (Marca)

Real Madrid are planning to sign a striker and a goalkeeper during the January transfer window. Zinedine Zidane refused to rule out January arrivals after his side’s 3-2 victory over Malaga on Saturday, fuelling speculation that Real Madrid are set to spend big on another goalscorer. Inter Milan’s Icardi and PSG star Neymar have both been touted as potential Real Madrid transfer targets recently. (Mundo Deportivo)

France

Paris Saint Germain striker Kylian Mbappe endured a frustrating evening as he faced former side Monaco for the first time. The young Frenchman, who is on loan at PSG before completing a £166m permanent move next summer, wasted several opportunities and deflected in Monaco’s late consolation during Sunday’s 2-1 win in an evening to forget for the 18-year-old. Mbappe was whistled throughout but his blushes were spared by Edinson Cavani and Neymar, who both scored to move PSG nine points clear at the top of Ligue 1. (L’Equipe)

PSG have made contact with Nice over midfielder Jean Michael Seri. The Ivory Coast international, 26, had been a Barcelona transfer target and looked set to join the Catalans in the summer only for the move to fall through when Nice refused to sell. However, the club are believed to have softened their stance, with PSG among the interested parties. (Le Parisien)

Germany

Bayern Munich hope to convince coach Jupp Heynckes to remain in charge until the end of next season when they will look to appoint Joachim Low. The Germany boss has ruled out taking the Bayern job after next summer’s World Cup but the Bundesliga giants believe they can lure him a year later. Heynckes agreed to assume first-team duties until the end of the current season after Ancelotti’s dismissal in September. (Bild)

Robert Lewandowski’s wife says the Bayern striker wants to end his career at LA Galaxy. The Poland striker, who is a long-time Real Madrid transfer target, is under contract at the Allianz Arena until 2021. But his wife, Anna, says he is keen on a future move to MLS. “I think that we will spend some time in the United States,” she said. “We dream of Los Angeles, and we would love to develop our brand there. “We hope that Robert will end his professional career at a Los Angeles-based club. We can already say that this would be our dream.” (Business Insider)

Belgium

Dries Mertens has revealed that he turned down Barcelona in the summer. The Napoli forward was a target for the La Liga side following Neymar’s departure to PSG, but the Belgium international felt as though he wouldn’t be guaranteed starting football at the Camp Nou. “Barcelona wanted to sign me last summer, they wanted me to replace the MSN but after the last season I didn’t want to return to bench and I rejected their offer. Barcelona have paid €100million (£89million) to sign players who are not as strong as me. Sometimes I think about what would have happened if I had joined them. If you look at who has been playing on the left in the last few months, I think I could have easily played there.” (Het Laatste Nieuws)

2019: PDP Reveals What Atiku Must Do To Become Party’s Presidential Candidate

Featured Image

The chairman the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Walid Jibrin, has revealed what former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, must do to become the party’s presidential candidate in the 2019 presidential election.

Atiku Dumps APC, Says “Party Has Failed Nigerians”

Atiku had on Friday announced that he has parted ways with the country’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), lamenting that the party has failed Nigerians, most especially the youths.

“Be that as it may be, after due consultation with my God, my family, my supporters and the Nigerian people whom I meet in all walks of life, I, Atiku Abubakar, Waziri Adamawa, hereby tender my resignation from the All Progressives Congress while I take time to ponder my future,” the former VP said, in a statement he personally signed on Friday.

However, the PDP BOT Chair has urged Atiku to be ready to play by the rules once he rejoins the party in the coming days – as there are strong indications of his imminent arrival at the major opposition party.

While speaking with Premium Times on Sunday night, Mr. Jibrin, a former senator from Nasarawa State, informed Atiku of the rigorous competition that awaits him for the party’s ticket, adding that the PDP field of presidential contenders has expanded in recent weeks.

He said the PDP is expecting him, but first, the former vice-president “must subject himself to all the constitutional instruments of the party” if he “really wants to be president” by 2019.

The PDP BOT Chair also said most of the presidential hopefuls that have expressed their intention since the party ‘zoned’ its presidential ticket to the north are political heavyweights.

All our candidates are very strong and the former vice-president is going to meet some interesting challengers, Mr. Jibrin added.

A former Minister of Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau  is amongst those who have commenced 2019 consultations in recent weeks on the platform of the PDP.

Also, a former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, had sent a letter of notification to PDP leaders and members on his readiness to run for presidency in 2019.

This is even as the Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, had publicly declared his ambition to seek the ticket, knowing well that the PDP has zoned its presidential ticket to the Northern region of Nigeria.

Liverpool defender Ragnar Klavan didn’t believe Jurgen Klopp’s plea for him to join Liverpool was genuine – He actually thought it was all a prank

In the summer of 2016, Klopp was keen on signing Klavan for defensive cover, with Klopp sending the Augsburg defender a text message as part of the charm offensive.

Ragnar Klavan, was suspicious about the interest and sought some assurances that he was, indeed, speaking to the Liverpool manager.

When asked by BT Sport whether he had reservations about the legitimacy of Klopp’s text, Klavan said: “Yes, I did not believe it.

“I asked for some kind of confirmation so Jurgen sent me a selfie.”

The picture seemed to do the trick as Klavan eventually joined in a £4.2 million deal.

Robert Lewandowski hopes to play for a Los Angeles-based club before he retires, his wife has told Business Insider.

Robert Lewandowski’s wife, Anna, revealed it was their dream to spend time in the United States, and Los Angeles in particular.

Asked about her husband’s plans for later in his career, Lewandowska, who has represented Poland in traditional karate and is a nutrition specialist, said: “I think that we will spend some time in the United States.

“We dream of Los Angeles, and we would love to develop our brand there.”

Lewandowski tops the goalscoring charts in the Bundesliga after 13 goals in as many games, though he has spoken of his frustration with the lack of back-up at the Allianz this campaign.

“Our goal is to build a strong, honest and stable brand under the name ‘The Lewandowskis.’ We want to create a third brand, and this time together.

Everton Might Need To Spend In January To Survive – David Unsworth

Featured Image

Everton may be forced to spend in the January transfer window if they are to pull themselves away from the Premier League relegation zone, says caretaker manager David Unsworth.

Everton were soundly beaten 4-1 at Southampton on Sunday and are just two points clear of the bottom three.

That is despite the club spending almost £150million during the summer transfer window to bring in players including Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

“If it needs players who are injured to come back or January to come and go and get new players, something has to change,” he said.

“This group of players is underperforming, whether it is Ronald (Koeman) in charge or me in charge it isn’t working.”

‘There is obviously something not right going into games. On the training field everything looks right, we are getting everything we want out of them. But when we go into a game situation, because our confidence is low, we are conceding far too easily.’

Everton now have the worst defensive record in the top-flight, conceding 28 in 13 games, but Unsworth feels talk of a fight for survival remains premature.

‘I wouldn’t go that far so early,’ he said when asked if Everton were embroiled in the relegation battle.

‘I think we are in a tough moment, I think we have a massive week ahead of us. If you ask me that question next week I can give you a more honest view.

‘If the players didn’t know they were in a tough situation they must do now. It is a massive week for the club.’

Prince Harry – who is fifth in line to the British throne – is engaged to American actress Meghan Markle, Kensington Palace announced in a statement issued on Monday.

“His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince Harry to Ms. Meghan Markle. The wedding will take place in Spring 2018. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course,” a statement released Monday by Kensington Palace read.

“The couple will live in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace.”

Markle, 36, a native of Los Angeles, is three years older than Harry, and is divorced.

Their 16-month relationship began when they met through mutual friends in London and the pair have been particularly close in recent months, with Markle staying regularly at Harry’s home at Kensington Palace.

In September 2017, Markle spoke publicly about her relationship with the prince for the first time, telling Vanity Fair magazine they were “really happy and in love”.

The actor also revealed the pair had been dating for six months before their relationship became public, since when the relationship “has had its challenges”.

Also, in a statement issued, Markle’s parents said they were “incredibly happy” with the couple’s engagement, adding: “We wish them a lifetime of happiness.”

“Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person. To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for us as parents.

“We wish them a lifetime of happiness and are very excited for their future together.”

The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh “are delighted for the couple and wish them every happiness”, a Buckingham Palace spokesman said.

Marko Grujic Needs To Quit Liverpool, Says His Agent

Featured Image

Marko Grujic needs to leave Liverpool on loan in January for another English club, according to his agent.

Zoran Stojadinovic has told Serbian newspaper Blic that the 21-year-old midfielder needs to get out and play more first-team games after struggling to break into Jurgen Klopp’s plans.

Marko Grujic has made just 13 appearances since a move from Red Star Belgrade in January 2016, including five this season, and never started a Premier League game.

And Stojadinovic says he will not allow his client to make the same “mistake” as Lazar Markovic, who is also still at the Reds and not playing games, by going on loan abroad.

“Grujic has to go somewhere in January in a loan, in a team where he will play,” Stojadinovic said.

“It must be an English club, so as not to make a mistake like Lazar Markovic did. Had Lazar been my client, I would never advise him to leave England.

AC Milan Sack Vincenzo Montella, Replace Him With Gennaro Gattuso

Featured Image

AC Milan have sacked coach Vincenzo Montella, with the reins handed to Gennaro Gattuso.

The club are seventh in Serie A on 20 points, 18 behind leaders Napoli, after a run of only two league victories in their past nine games.

AC Milan drew 0-0 with Torino at home on Sunday and have lost six of their 14 top-flight matches this season.

A club statement read: “AC Milan announces the exemption of Vincenzo Montella from the post of coach of the first team.

“Montella is most appreciated thanks to the work done so far with his staff for commitment, seriousness and professional fairness.

“The technical management of the team is entrusted to Gennaro Gattuso, who leaves his post as Primavera coach, and to whom AC Milan offers the most warmest wishes for good work.”

Meanwhile, Gattuso, whose career at Milan spanned 15 years and included two league titles and two Champions Leagues, has been brought in, having managed Milan Primavera – the club’s under-19 team – of late.

The former Milan and Italy midfielder took charge of Sion after retiring from football in 2013 – but his tenure lasted just three matches before being sacked.

Gattuso went on to have short spells at Palermo and Greek outfit OFA Crete, while he also guided Pisa to Serie B – and then went on to see them finish bottom – before going on to take the U19 job at Milan.

The 47-year-old rapper announced on Friday that he was cancelling an upcoming stop on his 4:44 tour that he had scheduled to take place December 6, at the Pinnacle Bank Arena.

“This tour is too important to me to do it halfway,” he said in a statement published by the Omaha World-Herald.

“I have to cancel the show. I respect you guys too much to take the money and run.”

Ticketmaster’s website confirms the cancelation, stating that refunds are available at point of purchase, with internet and phone orders automatically refunded.

It was gathered that the Grammy-winner in October called off a show that was slated for November 1 at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California, with the Fresno Bee reporting that sales had been sluggish for the event, even with some available as cheap as $6 via Stubhub.com.

Alba Slams Officials For Missing Messi’s Goal

Featured Image

Jordi Alba has slammed the officials of Barcelona’s encounter with Valencia, as they denied Messi a goal that clearly crossed the line.

On the half hour mark, Messi rifled a shot from the edge of the area, a shot that Neto fumbled and scrambled to bat away after crossing the line.

The referee and his assistant failed to award the goal and the absence of goal-line technology has left Alba unhappy with the officials.

Alba, who snatched a late leveller in a 1-1, told reporters on the incident after the final whistle: “It was a mistake by the referee.

“Even from the middle of the pitch I could see it.

“At the break we saw the replay and it is clear, these plays can’t be missed.”

Newell’s Old Boys Address Reports Linking Luciano Cingolani To Manchester United

Featured Image

Newell’s Old Boys have played down suggestions of Manchester United transfer interest in their young midfielder Luciano Cingolani.

Luciano Cingolani plays for the club’s Under 16 side in the Argentinian Septima Division, but the website El Dia reports that United are interested in bringing him to Manchester.

Club secretary, Jose Menchon, has revealed that Congolani’s father was confident that United would make an offer – but so far that offer is yet to materialise.

“The case of Cingolani is very particular because the father wanted to take him away, then he said he was going to bring an offer from Manchester United, but no offer came to the club,” said Menchon.

The club have taken the step of publicly discussing the situation after recently losing another academy product, Castro, who departed for rivals Boca Juniors.

Added Menchon: “What happens is that after Castro, who went to Boca and we are about to agree a compensation, the hive was rattled.”
