Watford Manager Marco Silva Remains Coy On Richarlison’s Future

Featured Image

Marco Silva is relaxed about Richarlison’s future at Watford, saying “it’s normal” that other clubs would be interested in the Brazilian forward.

Recent reports suggested that Richarlison’s early season form has attracted interest from some of the Premier League’s biggest sides, prompting Watford CEO Scott Duxbury to warn that the player was not for sale.

Despite the speculation, Silva remains calm over Richarlison’s future. He said: “For us as a club it is important to keep our best players.

“It’s normal. We know our players are doing well and some are improving a lot. It’s normal other clubs pay attention to them.

“After it’s that it’s the club’s decision. The owner will decide what is best.”

David Moyes Admits He Has Money To Spend In January

Featured Image

West Ham manager David Moyes says he has money to spend on transfers in January, but says his focus is on getting the current squad to produce results.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s match against , Premier League leaders Manchester City, Moyes said: “They told me when I came that if things were needed in January then it would be possible to do so.

“But I said last week, and I’m saying again that I am focusing on the players here.

“I do expect the staff that work here and who work it that department [transfers] will have plenty of people to look at and recommend.

“If it gets nearer the time and I think it’s needed I’ll go myself and see them.”

“I see the players here having a strong mentality and a fighting spirit amongst them to make things right. I can only harp back to small things. It’s individual lapses that cost us in recent games.

“I’m focusing on the players here. We have to get a winning team from what we’ve got in the squad.”

Moyes short-term aim is to get the best out of the players currently at his disposal, as they look to bounce back from the defeat at Goodison Park.

“I was unhappy with the performance the other night, but the spirit is fine. I need them to stand up and be better but overall I think they’re big enough in here to know they need to do better.

Another Batch Of 150 Nigerians Return From Libya

Featured Image

Another batch of 150 Nigerians have returned to Nigeria from the crisis-ridden Libya after they had undergone severe torture in the North African country.

360nobs had earlier reported that 242 Nigerian migrants – who were stranded in Libya – landed at Lagos airport on a Libyan airline flight at around 9pm local time on Tuesday.

However, the latest returnees arrived the shores of Nigeria 10:10 pm on Thursday night through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) aboard a chartered Boeing 737-800 aircraft with the registration number 6A-DMG.

11,600 “Illegal” Nigerian Migrants Face Repatriation Worldwide

The returnees comprised 13 female adults and one teenage girl while the male adults were 133 with two teenage boys and a toddler.

It is understood that their return was facilitated by the Federal Government and the International Organization for Migration, IOM, and funded by the European Union project.

On ground to welcome the returnees back home were officials of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN)  as well as officers of the Nigerian Police.

The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons [NCFRMI] and other Government Agencies were also on ground to receive them and ensure that they were profiled and registered.

The migrants were given a stipend for transportation and taken to a hotel to spend the night before heading to their homes.

What Magu, Adeosun, Oyo-Ita, Immigration Boss, Daura, Others Are Saying As Reps Probe #MainaGate

What Magu, Adeosun, Oyo-Ita, Immigration Boss, Daura Are saying As Reps Probe #MainaGate

The investigation into the recall of former head of Presidential Task Force on Pension Reform, Abdulrasheed Maina, into the civil service took several interesting dimensions on Thursday at the House of Representatives as more revelations emerged from parties involved in the matter.

Maina Breaks Silence On How Buhari, AGF Malami Ensured His Reinstatement (VIDEO)

Those quizzed at the resumption of the hearing chaired by Aliyu Madaki, included the Head of Service of the federation, HoS, Winifred Oyo-Ita; Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami; acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu; Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun; Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris; Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Services, Mohammed Babangede; and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Abubakar Magaji.

The lower chamber of the National Assembly commenced the investigative hearing into the disappearance, reappearance, reinstatement and promotion of Mr. Maina on Thursday, November 23.

At the first sitting, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Malami, denied initiating and authorising Maina’s return.

But the account of the HoS and that of the Chairman, Federal Civil Service Commission, Joseph Akande, countered Mr. Malami’s claim.

According to Mrs. Oyo-Ita, she had received a series of letters from the office of the Attorney General demanding the reinstatement of Mr. Maina, while Mr. Akande too said that at least three letters on the issue emanated from the office of the AGF.

Literally, it means either the AGF was lying or the HoS and Mr. Akande were.

I’m responsible for Maina’s reinstatement – PermSec, Interior Ministry, Mr. Magaji Abubakar

Abubakar on Thursday admitted before the House of Representatives’ Adhoc Committee that his mistake led to reinstatement of the ex-pension boss.

Consequently, he apologised to the Head of Service of the Federation, HoS, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita, for the error.

Magaji, who stated this following barrage of evidence-based questions directed at him by members of the House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee, made the U-turn having first indicted the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Winifred Oyo-Ita, as being responsible for the letter directing Maina’s reinstatement.

Mrs. Oyo-Ita clears self

Oyo-Ita, in her defence before the panel, marveled at the submission by the Permanent Secretary whom she described as “a senior permanent secretary in the civil service”, saying that Magaji was being economical with the truth as her office never sent a letter directing the him to reinstate Maina.

She added that Mr. Maina, was reinstated into the civil service without a directive from her office.

“For the permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Abubakar Magaji, to claim that the directive to reinstate Maina came from my office is limited in facts,” Mrs. Oyo-Ita said, reacting to the submission by Mr. Magaji.

““The remarks by Mr. Magaji that he acted based on directives of the Head of Service, to put it mildly, is not quite correct,” she said.

“There is a process of conveyance of reinstatement instructions. The Federal Civil Service Commission would send a letter to the Head of Service and also send another letter to the beneficiary of that reinstatement under the flying seal of the Head of Service.

“The Ministry of Interior did not wait to get a posting instruction before they went ahead and reinstated Maina and assigned him duties.

“So this is to completely discountenance the attempt by the Permanent Secretary that they acted on an issue in an illegal manner while trying to make claims that there was a legality from my office”, she added.

Immigration: Maina is a US citizen, has three passports

In his defence, the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Services, Mohammed Babandede, claimed Mr. Maina has three official passports and has not been travelling through borders if he has been travelling at all.

He said: “We have checked our records and we have not seen a single name of Maina pass through our airports since 2013 when he was blocked; so the record available to us shows that Maina has not been travelling.”

“If he has been travelling, then it means he has not been travelling through an airport we can see. By law, if you pass through a border you are entitled to report to an immigration officer. So if Maina has been travelling from 2013 till date, we don’t know. If he has been passing through borders he has not reported to an immigration officer. As far as we are concerned, Maina has not been travelling since 2013.”

“We knew about Maina from 27 September 2013 when he was leaving the country and he was stopped at the Murtala Mohammed international airport because of the letter from EFCC.

“Prior to that time, Maina was never in our stop list. He has been a frequent traveller across airports. He has 3 passports. An official passport which has expired and has not being renewed; a standard passport which is currently valid till 2018 and an American passport.

‎”So in an addition to being a citizen of Nigeria, he is also a citizen of America. He has a valid U.S. passport which will be expiring on 26 August 2022.”

I advised Malami to meet with Maina – Daura

The Director General of the State Security Services (DSS), Lawal Daura, in his account, confirmed that the AGF met with Mr. Maina based on his advice.

He said: “The attorney general of the federation sometime in 2016 or 2015 (can’t remember the exact day) because it was not through a formal document, placed a call to me when he was outside the country and requested me on a request he got through a source that Maina wanted to meet him.”

“He wanted me to advise him whether to agree to see Maina or not in that foreign country.”

“I responded to the attorney general that he should accept to see Maina but he should not see him alone”

“He should see him with a third party,” Mr. Daura said.

His account confirms Mr. Maina’s comment in a video recently aired by Channels TV that he met with the minister.

Magu Claims Maina Never Returned Any Asset To EFCC

On his own part, the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, stated emphatically that Mr. Maina did not hand over any asset to the commission.

“If Maina or any government official witnessed the sharing of any recovered pension assets by any official of the EFCC, they should be willing to name the official, the assets involved; when and where the sharing took place.

“For the avoidance of doubt, there are no 222 properties anywhere that were shared by anybody. The EFCC did not receive a single property from Abdulrasheed Maina,” Mr. Magu said.

He added that all the pension fraud asset that are in the recovered assets inventory of the commission, ”were products of independent investigation by the EFCC.”

Maina received no salary – Adeosun

The Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, said several searches were made in the payroll and nothing was found.

“We do not have his biometric data. I can state that he is not receiving salary from the federal government,” she said.

Nemanja Matic Unlikely To Be Fit For Clash With Arsenal

Featured Image

Jose Mourinho is expecting to be without Nemanja Matic for Manchester United’s trip to Arsenal this weekend, according to a report.

Nemanja Matic, 29, is currently undergoing intensive treatment at the club’s training ground after leaving the field 54 minutes into the club’s ‘ 4-2 win at Watford in midweek.

Matic is said to have a leg muscle problem that may take some time to fully heal, making him a big fitness doubt for Saturday evening’s meeting with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

United are due to leave for London on Friday, but the Daily Star suggests that Mourinho is not confident of having the Serbia international as part of his travelling party.

Marouane Fellaini is also unlikely to feature, while Michael Carrick is recovering from a heart problem, so Ander Herrera could be in line for a recall.

Shettima Aims Dig At Jonathan, Says “To Hell With Restructuring”

Featured Image

Governor Kahim Shettima of Borno State has written off the clamour for restructuring in Nigeria, describing it as a “madness” that can be stopped by good governance.

The governor also took a swipe at former Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan, described him as an honest man, who “surrounded himself with an assorted crop of religious bigots, tribal kindred and all sorts of reactionary elements.”

Mr. Shettima made these remarks at the book launch of a former Minister of Youths and Sports Development under the Jonathan administration, Bolaji Abdullahi, who is now the spokesperson of the All Progressive Congress, APC.

The event took place at the Yar’Adua Centre in the Central Business District of Abuja.

The book titled “On a Platter of Gold” was written on how Mr. Jonathan became president of Nigeria in 2011 but lost the office at the 2015 general election.

Mr. Shettima, who was the Father of the Day, downplayed the clamour for restructuring, adding that if jobs are provided and other sectors of the economy, especially the education sector is developed, “this madness”, referring to restructuring, “will stop.”

He said: “People are talking about artificial intelligence, other nations are talking about nano technology or robotics engineering but unfortunately, the topical issue in Nigeria is restructuring. Restructuring my foot! To hell with restructuring.

“Let us improve on governance, let us work for the people, invest in education, create jobs for our people, this madness will stop.”

On Jonathan, the Borno state governor said it was the people he surrounded himself with that made his government fail.

He continued: “Comparing (former President Olusegun) Obasanjo and the people he worked with and those Jonathan worked with, you will understand why.

“If you look at Obasanjo, hate him or love him, you have to respect Obasanjo for not only believing in the Nigerian project, but for surrounding himself with men of quality.

“If you mention Obasanjo, the names that readily come to mind are those of Oby Ezekwesili, Aliko Dangote, Femi Otedola, Jim Ovia, Tony Elumelu, Nasiru el-Rufai, Nuhu Ribadu, Bukola Saraki and other quality Nigerians who have the capacity to add value to the system.

“But when you think of President Jonathan, with all due respect, he surrounded himself with an assorted crop of religious bigots, tribal kindred and all sorts of reactionary elements. Ateke Tom, Government Tompolo, Late Oronto Douglas, Asari Dokubo, Edwin Clark, Ayo Oritsejafor and others.”

Emre Can Insists Contract Dispute With Liverpool Is Not About Money

Featured Image

Emre Can insists his contract stand-off with Liverpool is “not about money”.

Emre Can will be a free agent at the end of the season and has been linked with a move to Juventus.

Asked by the Liverpool Echo whether he would still be a Liverpool player next season, Can said: “Why do you ask me this? Really, I concentrate on this season and let my agent handle all the rest.

“It is not about money, that’s all I can say. Yes I could (sign a pre-contract with another club next month), but tomorrow I could also sign for Liverpool. We’ll see.”

Liverpool have refused to include a realistic release clause in Can’s contract leading to talks breaking down between the two parties.

Wednesday night’s 3-0 win at Stoke City was Emre Can’s 100th Premier League appearance for the Reds. He cost the club £9.75million when he joined from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2014.

Nathan Redmond Defends Pep Guardiola Over Angry On Field Exchange Of Words

Featured Image

Southampton Winger Nathan Redmond has defended Pep Guardiola on Thursday night over the Manchester City manager’s heated discussion with the Southampton forward.

Nathan Redmond insisted he had no problem with the way the Manchester city manager aggressively confronted him at the end of City’s dramatic late 2-1 win at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesda

And Redmond, who angrily ridiculed one newspaper claims that Guardiola had called him a “w—–”, said the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach had told him “how he wanted me to attack his team more during the game in a similar way to last season” when Southampton drew 1-1 at the Etihad.

Redmond said he had responded by telling Guardiola “I was doing what my manager [Mauricio Pellegrino] had asked me to do in the game”.

That’s it. Nothing more, nothing less. Nothing negative or offensive was said towards me from Pep and that’s what makes him one of the best managers in world football.”

Redmond posted the statement in response to an article published on the Sun’s website, which featured a lip reader claiming Guardiola had called Redmond a “wanker” and had accused him of “taking me for a mug”. A Manchester City spokesperson disputed the lip reader’s claims.

“I want to make it absolutely clear Pep Guardiola did not say what the Sun is falsely claiming in this story,” Redmond said. “Yes he was very passionate, intense and aggressive but he was only very complimentary and positive to me.

“Losing the game the way we did in the last kick of the game after working so hard for 90-plus minutes, I was very disappointed. But when one of the world’s best managers compliments you or gives advice in any way, you listen.”

Mauricio Pochettino Continues To Reject Suggestions That His Book Caused Tottenham’s Dip In Form

Featured Image

Mauricio Pochettino has once again been forced to defend his book, amid accusations that it has affected his players’ focus and form.

Tottenham have won just four of 10 matches since the first extracts of ‘Brave New World: Inside Pochettino’s Spurs,’ written as the Argentine’s diary by journalist Guillem Balague, appeared in print.

The book contains details of private conversations between Pochettino and his players and coaching staff, and it was suggested to Mauricio Pochettino that his honesty could risk relationships at the club.

“It’s a risk when you lie. If you tell the truth, why [is it a risk]? This is a very honest book that was involved with the club for a very good thing,” said Pochettino, who said he will donate his royalties to charity.

“It’s an amazing book because all of you can read what happens in a season for a professional club. It’s a great opportunity to have a better idea that it is not only about playing football or coming here [to a news conference] to speak.

“The problem is when you lie, when you lie inside and want to be different. But for me I am here how I am inside. And all that appears in this book, the players know better than me. It’s nothing to keep hidden.

“We won a lot of games when the book appeared. So I am more than happy if the book is the problem!”

Pochettino also described the book as “a very good commentary and honest [source of] information that is never going to cause problems,” claiming the players are “so happy” with it.

The book paints Pochettino as emotional, spiritual and, occasionally, vain and he was asked to explain a specific line in which he worries that his “egotism…could be all-consuming,” and concludes: “The idea of drifting over to the dark side worries me.”

After being read the quote, Pochettino said: “We are in a position where the people praise you say, ‘he is so good’ with managers, coaches and players.

“Usually the temptation is to cross the limit and live in a life that is in the dark side. For me it is a dark side because you are wrong. Always, I am so careful, so conscious that I don’t want to cross this line, I don’t want to become crazy for the praise because we win or we achieve things.

“That is my worry. To be conscious and to stop before I cross the line because it is difficult to come back after. You behave differently to the way you are. I don’t want to lose my identity from when I was a child.

“I was humble and I grew up with some values and I have no need to change and I am not going to change because I am manager of Tottenham in the Premier League or I am very famous. Or I have money enough to buy a car … it cannot affect me. That is what I wanted to explain.”

Usually the temptation is to cross the limit and live in a life that is in the dark side. For me it is a dark side because you are wrong. Always, I am so careful, so conscious that I don’t want to cross this line, I don’t want to become crazy for the praise because we win or we achieve things.

Thomas Muller Doesn’t Think Bayern Munich Needs A New Backup Striker

Featured Image

Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller has questioned the club’s need to sign a backup striker for Robert Lewandowski, despite the German champions’ pursuit of Sandro Wagner.

Bayern Munich are in talks with Hoffenheim about signing the German international striker, but the two clubs are “miles apart on the transfer fee” according to president Uli Hoeness.

However, CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge would not rule out signing Wagner, a former Bayern striker, if the two clubs “were able to agree a sensible transfer fee.”

Muller, 28, hailed his Germany teammate as “a very good player who undoubtedly has his qualities,” but pointed out that Bayern’s first-choice striker Lewandowski would also demand a starting spot when fit.

“When I am tired it is easy to say I need a backup — and if that only happens every three months, it’s not ideal and also difficult for Mr. Backup,” Muller said.

He added: “Of course when Lewy did have a problem two or three weeks ago, it would have been good to have a backup, but when that is only every three or four games, it is not ideal for a trainer either — especially when Lewy is fit.”

“There will definitely be no ban on wearing rainbow symbols in Russia. It’s clear you can come here and not be fined for expressing feelings,” Smertin said at a news conference in Moscow to discuss race and discrimination issues in football.

The former Russia and Chelsea midfielder added it’s unlikely gay fans could fall foul of Russian law, saying, “The law is about propaganda to minors … I can’t imagine that anyone is going to go into a school and speak.”

His remarks were welcomed by the FARE network, which advises FIFA on discrimination issues.

“He’s giving some reassurances and I think in the end that’s all that people want,” FARE executive director Piara Powar told The Associated Press. “People want to know that they can come here safely, that they will be protected, that they are wanted.”

Homosexuality was decriminalised in Russia in 1993, but anti-gay sentiment remains strong. Russia passed a federal law banning so-called propaganda of homosexuality to minors in 2013, which has been widely criticised for banning gay pride events or discussions of gay rights in public spaces where children might possibly be present.

Ahead of Russia hosting the Winter Olympics in 2014, President Vladimir Putin said gay people would be welcome in Sochi but must “leave the children in peace.”

Trouble For Nigerian Universities As NAAT, NASU, SSANU Begin Indefinite Strike

Featured Image

The non-academic staff unions in federal and state universities in Nigeria will on Monday, December 4, 2017 embark on an indefinite strike to protest the sharing formula of the N23billion released by the Federal Government to settle their earned allowances.

The decision to resume the suspended strike was taken at a crucial meeting of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) made up of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non Academic Staff Union (NASU) and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) held in Abuja.

The unions also issued a joint statement on Thursday night, in which it declared that the strike will resume as from 12midnight, Sunday, December 3, Daily Sun reports.

The statement was signed by the national presidents of NAAT, Sani Sulaimon; NASU, Chris Ani; and SSANU, Samson Ugwoke.

In the statement, the workers said they will not accept the mode of sharing as regards to the recent financial allocation to universities.

“We wrote a letter to the federal ministry of education to explain the criteria for the allocation and we gave them seven days notice to do the needful. But the date has elapsed without a response from the federal government,” Premium Times quoted the unions as saying.

It was gathered that members of SSANU, NASU and NAAT in some universities on Monday disrupted academic and administrative activities over the sharing formula adopted by the government in payment of the outstanding earned allowance.

In the formula adopted by the federal government, the non academic staffs were allocated 11 per cent of the N23billion as against 89 per cent for academic staff in the universities.

Recall, the unions had suspended their strike and asked their members to resume work on September 25 after signing a memorandum of understanding with the federal government.

They gave the federal government one month to start the implementation of the agreement; but said on Thursday that the government is yet to meet their demands after two months.

More Chance of Emre Can Moving To Serie A Than Leon Goretzka – Oliver Bierhoff

Featured Image

Germany football chief Oliver Bierhoff has claimed that there is more chance of Liverpool midfielder Emre Can moving to Serie A than Schalke 04 midfielder Leon Goretzka.

Both Emre Can And Leon Goretzka are expected to move on from their current clubs before the start of next season, with Can being heavily linked with Juventus and Goretzka attracting interest from England, Spain and Italy.

However, Bierhoff – who now holds a role with the Germany national side – has suggested that Can is nearing a transfer to champions Juventus.

Bierhoff told Tuttosport: “We’re talking about two important players. They’ll have so many options for the future, they’ll be personal choices. At the moment England is the top for a player, and after that there’s the lure of the powerful Spanish clubs.

“Emre Can and Goretzka would definitely be successful in Serie A too. Unless Inter return to the top though, if one of these players were to choose Italy now it would only be for Juventus.

“There’s not much chance for Goretzka, maybe only 20 per cent. I think there’s a lot more for Emre Can, I’d say 60-80 per cent.”
