Nigerians Still Love Me, I Was Only Teasing – Mr Eazi Declares

Featured Image

Early this year, Mr. Eazi incurred the wrath of music lovers in Nigeria after giving himself credit for the ongoing synergy of Ghana-Nigeria sound. Also, his claims to have left a highly paid oil company job for music sparked unpleasant reactions from Nigerians.

All these statements and ugly public feedbacks seem to have caused Mr.Eazi to become almost unpopular in the Nigerian music scene.

While reacting to the issue in a recent interview with HipTV, Mr Eazi declared that the love Nigerians have for him has never diminished. He also maintained that all he has said was just a deliberate attempt to tease Nigerians.

Atletico Madrid’s Bid For Lautaro Martinez Rejected By Racing Club

Featured Image

Atletico Madrid have had an offer for Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez rejected by Racing Club.

Atletico Madrid want to sign the 20-year-old but Victor Blanco, Racing Club’s president, says Diego Simeone’s side have failed with their first offer.

Speaking to Argentine newspaper Ole, he said: “An offer from Atletico Madrid worth €12.75m with a surplus value of 10% of a future sale arrived, but it was rejected.”

Racing Club are reportedly seeking a higher fee and a higher sell-on clause. The player, who is also on Borussia Dortmund’s radar, is keen to move to Atleti.

Atletico were not allowed to buy any players this summer because of a FIFA transfer ban that ends in the New Year, but will strengthen their attack in January with Diego Costa and Vitolo.

Lautaro Martinez scored nine goals in 23 Superliga Argentina appearances for Racing last season.

The 20-year-old, who scored his third league goal in his sixth start this season for Racing in Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Newell’s Old Boys, said after the game: “I don’t know if these are going to be my last months at Racing, I have not spoken to my agent. I don’t want to think about anything or say something because I don’t have any concrete information.

“I just try to give my best, leave a good image and help my teammates. We then shall see what decision the club executives, my agent and my family take.”

Newcastle Linked With Move For Iker Casillas

Featured Image

Newcastle United eyeing new goalkeeper as reports from Portugal link them with Iker Casillas.

Benitez has recently recalled Karl Darlow to his starting XI and is pleased with his contributions in the last two games after taking over from Rob Elliot.

Darlow’s display at Stamford Bridge even won praise from Chelsea and Belgium star Eden Hazard who described him as a “brilliant goalkeeper”.

However, the Newcastle Chronicle understands that Benitez is still keen to keep the competition in the goalie department up to a high standard by bringing in a third senior man, and he will also look to loan out Freddie Woodman to an EFL club with the youngster making it clear he needs game-time.

Newcastle are 13th in terms of goals conceded and Benitez has always prided himself on having a tight defence.

Liverpool, another Premier League giant who are in need of a stable No 1, are reported to have been monitoring Casillas’ situation at Porto.

However, they are unlikely to move in January, as his ineligibility for the Champions League will likely put them off.

Casillas is one of the most successful footballers in history and one of only three men to win the Champions League, World Cup and Euros as captain.

Wenger: I Will Not Give Up On The Title

Arsene Wenger has revealed that he will never give up on Arsenal’s chances of winning the title, just like Pochettino has done with Tottenham.

Arsenal lost their last match, 3-1 to Manchester United and sit fifth in the Premier League, 15 points behind City.

And while Tottenham manager Pochettino accepted recently that his side have little chance of lifting the crown , Wenger was unwilling to do likewise.

“I am not Pochettino, I am Arsene Wenger,” the Frenchman told reporters.

“I am here to fight as long as I can, as long as mathematically it’s possible you have to fight, you cannot give any other message out.”

Carlo Ancelotti Reveals He’s Turned Down The Chance To Coach Italy

Featured Image

Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed he does not want to become Italy’s next head coach as he wants to stay in club management.

The former Chelsea, Real Madrid, Juventus and AC Milan manager had been the choice of the federation’s president Carlo Tavecchio, who has also since stood down from his role.

But Carlo Ancelotti said: “Yes the federation contacted me, I spoke to them. I told them what I am telling you now, that I am honoured by so many people wanting me to be the coach of the national side.

“However, that would be like a whole other job. Being a national coach is different to being a club coach, as I still enjoy training and working every day.”

Italian football also has some problems that need to be resolved. I realise there is a conflict of interests between clubs and federations, as there is in Germany, France and England, but right now Italian football needs the Federation to impose its power over the clubs and impose new rules to improve the situation.

“For example, I think Serie A would benefit greatly by being reduced from 20 teams to 18 and I know there are clubs who are ready to vote for that.”

Arsenal’s New Head Of Recruitment Sven Mislintat Speaks About His Expectations At The Club

Featured Image

Arsenal’s new head of recruitment Sven Mislintat has admitted that expectations in him at his new club are “sky high.”

Sven Mislintat left Borussia Dortmund for Arsenal last month, having been responsible for several key transfers at the club, including the signings of Ousmane Dembele, Shinji Kagawa and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Speaking to kicker, the 45-year-old, who began his work at Arsenal on Dec. 1, said he is aware of the pressure he has put himself under by making the move to the Emirates Stadium.

“When I flip through the press in England and Germany, it appears a new Dembele is expected of me in every transfer period. The expectations are sky high,” he said.

“When I started out at Dortmund [in late 2006] I had other options to develop at a club with grown structures,” he said. “I was able to build and grow into the role. These days, Arsenal sign me with brutal expectations — it can’t get any higher in their perception.”

“Spending big is not the approach of the owner, nor is that of Arsene [Wenger],” he said.

However, Mislintat warned that it takes more than signing a head of recruitment to make smart deals.

“Getting me is not a sure-fire success for good transfers,” he said. “You need an excellent team willing to work incredibly hard, and also fired up for finding the new Ousmane Dembele or Dan-Axel Zagadou.”

Mislintat’s arrival, as well as Raul Sanllehi’s move from Barcelona, has been seen as an indicator that Arsenal are preparing for life after Wenger, but the former BVB man played down such talk, saying he is looking forward to working with the Gunners manager, who played a role in his move.

“Arsene and CEO Ivan Gazidis are the two persons I report to,” he said. “I am looking forward to [working with] him. I can only learn from someone who has shown his qualities for decades.”

Mislintat added: “Only Sir Alex Ferguson was in office even longer. Wenger won the FA Cup in May, for the seventh time in 21 years. Three titles on top of that. I think it’s tough on him to deny him success.”

Neymar Will Never Play For Real Madrid – Luis Suarez

Featured Image

Despite the Real Madrid transfer talk surrounding Neymar, Luis Suarez has shut down rumours of a potential move to the Spanish capital for his former Barcelona team-mate.

Neymar had a high profile falling out with Edinson Cavani earlier this season and is reported to be struggling to settle into the squad.

Very few teams would be able to afford the Brazilian and it therefore follows that he has been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

I cannot see Neymar joining Real Madrid, not at all,” Suarez told an interview with Marca.

“I know Neymar and know the admiration he has for Barcelona and his former teammates at the club so for that reason I cannot imagine him playing for Madrid.

“His decision to leave was one which he thought out and would not have rushed into, but I’m sure it was a tough choice for him and it would have caused him a lot of anguish.

“We have to accept that he wished to take on a new challenge and that was a decision he took along with his family.

“He gave Barca a lot and that is what we will remember him for.”

Danilo Considering Quitting Manchester City After Just Four Months At The Club

Featured Image

Danilo is reportedly considering his future at Manchester City just four months after making the move from Real Madrid

Danilo joined City from Real Madrid in the summer and has made just 12 appearances in all competitions for Pep Guardiola’s side.

His start against West Ham United on Sunday was just his fourth in the Premier League this season, however, and it is understood that the defender is worried about his place in the Brazil squad ahead of the 2018 World Cup.

“Danilo is worried about his future with the Brazil team ahead of the World Cup,” The Sun quotes an Etihad source as saying. “He is getting very opportunities here at the moment. Kyle Walker isn’t giving him a look in at all.

“He can play right across the back line but even [Fabian] Delph is keeping him out at left-back as well. It’s very difficult for him.”

Danilo was replaced at the interval of City’s 2-1 win over West Ham at the Etihad Stadium.

Joel Matip Ruled Out Of Crucial Champions League Clash Vs Spartak Moscow

Featured Image

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that defender Joel Matip will miss Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Spartak Moscow due to injury.

Joel Matip was absent for Saturday’s 5-1 victory at Brighton & Hove Albion having picked up a knock during the midweek win over Stoke City, with Liverpool playing a makeshift back three of Dejan Lovren, Emre Can and Georginio Wijnaldum as a result.

“He has hurt his muscle. I don’t know how long exactly he’ll be out, but he’s definitely not playing Wednesday. A month? No, I don’t think so. But as always, it’s possible. We have to wait. But it’s possible that it will be shorter. We will see,” Jurgen Klopp told the club’s official website.

“Emre needs to do that, like Gini can do that. They have to do it, we don’t have anybody else. I enjoyed it. It was like ‘wow, interesting’. We had 20 minutes in training and then we spoke for a little bit in the team meeting before the game again about it.

“But it’s not long. It was clear it wouldn’t be perfect, but the boys were ready to cope with the difficulties of the new system. They did really well.”

Borussia Dortmund Interested In Re-signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Featured Image

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly interested in bringing Henrikh Mkhitaryan back to the club

Henrikh Mkhitaryan started this season in fine form for Manchester United, registering five assists in his opening three Premier League games, but he has failed to add to that tally since August.

Mkhitaryan has subsequently been left out of the starting lineup for United’s last five matches across all competitions, falling behind the likes of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and fit-again Zlatan Ibrahimovic in Jose Mourinho’s plans.

The Daily Star reports that Dortmund are hopeful of enticing the 28-year-old back to the club while he is out of favour

Mkhitaryan spent three years at Dortmund before joining United, scoring 41 goals in 140 appearances for the club.

Mark Clattenburg Admits He ‘Allowed’ Tottenham To Self-destruct At Chelsea In 2016

Featured Image

Former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg admits that he “allowed” Tottenham to “self-destruct” as their title hopes ended at Chelsea in 2016.

Tottenham missed out on the Premier League title in the 2015/16 season after an ill-tempered 2-2 draw with London rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

A record nine Spurs players were booked, and both they and Chelsea were handed record fines by the FA in the aftermath.

Clattenburg, who was in charge for the match, believes the game “certainly benefited” from his “style of refereeing”.

“I allowed them to self-destruct so all the media, all the people in the world went: ‘Tottenham lost the title’,” he told NBC’s Men in Blazers podcast.

“If I sent three players off from Tottenham, what are the headlines? ‘Clattenburg cost Tottenham the title.’ It was pure theatre that Tottenham self-destructed against Chelsea and Leicester won the title.”

When asked if he helped to “script” the game, he added: “I helped the game. I certainly benefited the game by my style of refereeing.

“Some referees would have played by the book; Tottenham would have been down to seven or eight players and probably lost and they would’ve been looking for an excuse.

“But I didn’t give them an excuse, because my gameplan was: Let them lose the title.”

Mark Clattenburg stepped down as a Premier League official in February in order to become Saudi Arabia’s head of referees.

Our strategy will mean that by 2022, millions of people will have access to banking services for the first time. Customers will make payments and transfers when and how they need to. Businesses will be able to trade in new markets and invest in new technology.

We recognise that we have a vital role to play in growing Nigeria, our largest market. Our global footprint is also changing and growing. As a result of our strategy, we will be in the Africa corridor trade hubs and the global gateway markets within five years.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve been out injured – the rehab is going well and hopefully I’ll be back soon,” Stones told Sky Sports News. “I’d like to be back out there for Christmas but let’s see where it goes. I think it might be just after.”

Stones is set to miss crunch matches against Manchester United and Tottenham but will be looking to return for City’s Premier League encounter with Newcastle on December 27.

Stones, 23, has scored three times in 18 appearances for City this season.

Manchester City Have Given Manchester United A Ray Of Hope – Gary Neville

Featured Image

Gary Neville believes Manchester City have offered Manchester United “a ray of hope” in the Premier League title race.

Manchester City restored their eight-point gap over Manchester United on Sunday thanks to David Silva’s late winner against West Ham United.

The result at the Etihad Stadium was City’s third consecutive 2-1 victory in the space of eight days, with the league leaders thoroughly tested by their opponents before striking late on.

“It has been a tough week for Manchester City, but a good one, though it has also been a good week for Manchester United as well, in terms of competitors chasing City,” Neville told Sky Sports News. “[United] might, for the first time this season, have just seen a little ray of hope, that there will be better teams than Huddersfield, Southampton and West Ham, yet all came close.

“All three played a certain way and got joy with certain things – counter-attack has been a problem for City this week, set-pieces and corners have been a problem this week, deep and compact defences have also been a problem this week in terms of breaking them down.

“You would argue, given what happened at Arsenal on Saturday, that United do have that counter-attack ability with Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Romelu Lukaku and Jesse Lingard, and that they do have the ability to score from set-pieces, and they are a better defensive unit than Southampton or West Ham.

“United will be confident going into the game because of what has happened this weekend for City, even though it has been a good week for City too, as they’ve scored three late winners and have taken maximum points.”

Nigerian Men Are Afraid Women Will Kill Them

Nigerian Men Are Afraid Women Will Kill Them – Abimbola Adelakun

In the wake of the unfortunate death of  Bilyamin  Bello, son of a former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, there has been a somewhat surprising chatter about matricide. In an ironic twist of Margaret Atwood’s quote, “men are afraid women will laugh at them; women are afraid men will kill them”, Nigerian men are now the ones displaying the fear of spousal violence. While men as victims too should be taken seriously enough, we should also resist attempts by people who want to propagate a spurious idea of gender violence by assessing issues with a false scale. There is no statistical equivalence to the violence men and women suffer in domestic relationships. It is disingenuous to pretend that men are also frequent victims but whose pain is unfairly obscured by feminist sympathies.

This piece was written by Abimbola Adelakun. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of

The data suggest that at least one in three women has reported a case of domestic violence and as many as double that figure experience one form of domestic violence or the other. The most reliable and recent data is that of Lagos State that showed that in the first nine months of this year alone, 852 cases were reported. Of that figure, the men’s cases of domestic abuse were only 55 instances. If we generalise with the figure, it means about 95 per cent of the time, women are the victims of various forms of domestic violence. Even if we adjust for varying factors such as ethnicity, religion, class, educational level, and so on, women will still be the bulk of the victims and men are the ones who carry out these acts of violence. Bello’s death might have proved that any and every one can be a victim. What it does not change is that women are the more frequent victims.

Honeymoon To Doom: Couples Maim, Send Partners To Early Graves

Personally, I believe that much of the sensation around Bello’s death has been more of the twin interwoven factors: class and ethnicity, rather than genuine sympathies for the deceased. If the couple were not from a prominent family, they probably would not make front page news. Also, they are northerners. In the patronising imagination of the southerners who dominate the media channels, the image of the northern woman must be that of one who is a perpetual victim of Islamist patriarchy; her veiled head symbolic of her equally veiled mind. The one woman that has (allegedly) diverged from this stereotypical script was instantly hailed as a revolutionary heroine by some febrile minds whose small minds turn severe issues to revanchist rhetoric like “battle of the sexes.”

One suspects that those two factors have made this incident compelling to the point that men feel vulnerable in a way they have never done before. If, therefore, men are now afraid that women too can kill them, then they will begin to understand the conditions under which many women have lived for long. If men understand the fear of spousal abuse the way women have lived its reality for many years, then our society might finally have a much-needed enlightened debate around domestic violence and hopefully make some progress. Women have borne the brunt of the unevenness of power and which has predisposed them to domestic violence for so long their suffering is frequently downplayed, normalised, and even rationalised. One can hardly go through three Yoruba films today without being assaulted with narratives that perpetuate violence and aggression against women. These stories are especially disturbing because their anti-women violence is hardly ever interrogated. Instead, women’s pain is represented as some kind of necessity and a self-denial that ultimately induces moral resolve or higher virtue. Whereas abuse is needless and oppressive. It diminishes people’s dignity.

Wife Stabs Son Of Ex-PDP Chairman To Death Over Infidelity Allegation

Women themselves tend to accept abuse as inevitable because, really, they have few options. They are bracketed on all sides by their relative lack of economic empowerment, socio-cultural expectations, religion, and legal infrastructures that do not guarantee their rights. I have been part of women support group fora where I have been baffled by how women further victimise one another by telling other abuse victims to seek spiritual help when physically and emotionally abused by their spouses. They tell the victims to pray so that God can change the hearts of their men. They advise them to watch War Room; to minimise one another and maximise their husband’s ego so that the manlier he feels, the less likely he would be violent. They teach one another to live with demeaning situations because, somehow, society has tied their ideas of personal virtue to being coupled. Thank God for other enlightened women who challenged these fellow women on their thinking. The fact that abuse has been ossified into social norms does not make it “normal.”

Men who languish in situations of domestic abuse do so largely because they are entrapped within our society’s outdated ideas of masculinity that thinks “real men” always have the brute physical force to “control” their women. Men who do not fit into these vacuous presumptions of male behaviour find themselves silenced by the social expectations that reserve aggression for only their gender. To win the battle against domestic violence, we need to turn moments of public passion such as this into a productive one. We need to take domestic violence more seriously. Men, especially the ones with economic, physical, and political power who think they are insulated from domestic violence should understand that the campaign against domestic violence is not just a shrill cry by women advocates who want to wave the victim card for nothing. It has been a lived reality for women.

The problem is not the paucity of laws. Despite the few retrogressive religious laws in the penal code that allows men to beat women as a correct measure, Nigeria has enough in her books to fight domestic violence. Lagos State, for instance, has a model that is responsive to issues of domestic violence and which should be imitated by other states. The Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act of 2015 can go a long way to protect victims. There is a lot more to be done to make laws enforceable and effective – from training officials to handle issues better, to providing enough resources to prosecute the overwhelming number of cases. However, domestic violence persists because there is a vast chasm between formal structures that purports to protect victims and the informal means of adjudication that treats these issues as “family matters.” People who should make an official report against their partners find themselves encumbered by cultural sentiments that re-victimise them. Ours is a society where serial wife-beaters are even elected lawmakers. How does a woman win against a system that gives an abusive spouse power to make laws that will ultimately translate to ensuring human rights and dignity?

Court Remands Maryam Sanda In Suleja Prisons – Woman Who Allegedly Stabbed Husband To Death

Finally, a lot of problems can be made less knotty if, collectively, we relax some of our ideas about marriage. We need to tell men and women that no match was made in heaven and people who are unlucky to choose a wrong partner need not die in a ruinous union trying to prove what is not. We should re-evaluate our values and understand that it takes bravery to pick up what is left of one’s self-respect and walk rather than put up a perfect front for social media. Marriage is no ultimate achievement for anyone. No man needs to prove his masculinity by tolerating a violent wife to “tame” her eventually. No woman should be blackmailed with the false notion that they have an intrinsic essence that can change a man; men are not growing babies who forever need mothering. People should be empowered to walk to save their lives and their sanity. Divorce should be no stigma; those who walk out of toxic relationships deserve to live a healthy life, and happily ever after too.

David Moyes Disappointed With Narrow Loss To Manchester City

Featured Image

David Moyes has revealed his disappointment following his team’s 2-1 defeat at Manchester City

Angelo Ogbonna sent the Hammers ahead at the Etihad Stadium, but second-half goals from Nicolas Otamendi and David Silva secured all the points for the home side.

Moyes has admitted that he was “gutted” with the final result, but has paid tribute to his players for an impressive performance away to the Premier League leaders.

“We are gutted we lost but we played against a really good side and I thought for long periods we frustrated them – arguably we had the best chances in the first half,” Moyes told Sky Sports News.

“So I’m ultimately disappointed not to take something from the game, but I’m really pleased with the players. We were always quite good in the counter, with power and pace up front, you are thinking maybe this is our day but unfortunately the chance at the end just went past the post.

“I think we should have done much better with the winning goal. If you are a centre half in that position you would head it away, so I’m disappointed we lost the ball, but we were playing a young 18-year-old centre half (Declan Rice) who did really well today.”
