The ministry also explained that the embassy in collaboration with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) repatriates 250 migrants weekly and had returned 3,000 of them so far.

“From the 2,778 registered Nigerians who are still in detention camps, another set of 250 Nigerian migrants will be arriving on Tuesday Dec. 5, at Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos at 7.00.p.m. to be received by NEMA officials.

“The Embassy, in collaboration with the IOM repatriates 250 Nigerian migrants by flight to Lagos weekly – each flight can accommodate only 250 passengers.

“The repatriation is a continuous exercise and the Embassy routinely issues the requisite travel documents to the migrants.

“The Embassy will continue to engage the legitimate government in Libya and other stakeholders in addressing the plight of Nigerian migrants in that country.”

Nigerians React As Rochas Okorocha Swears In Sister As “Commissioner Of Happiness”

Featured Image

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has sworn in 28 new commissioners and 27 Transition Committee Chairmen for the 27 local government councils in the state.

One of the commissioners sworn in by the governor is his biological sister, Mrs. Ogechi Ololo (nee Okorocha). She is now the state’s Commissioner for Happiness and Couples’ Fulfillment.

Ololo, who is married to Chuks, an engineer, was the All Progressives Congress’ candidate into the House of Representatives for the Owerri Federal Constituency seat in 2015 and she has served in various capacities since Okorocha became the state governor in 2011.

She had, before her new appointment, served as her brother’s Deputy Chief of Staff and Special Adviser on Domestic Matters.

Swearing in the new commissioners and the Transition Committee Chairmen on Monday at the Imo International Convention Centre, Owerri, the governor charged them to leave their marks in their respective ministries and local governments.

Okorocha said, “You are the privileged group that has the opportunity to make names for yourselves. I want to remind all of you that this appointment is not business as usual. We shall not tolerate any sharp practice or corruption of any type. Neither shall we accept indolence or laziness. You have been called to duty to help us to achieve our vision in the Rescue Mission Project.

“At this moment, I charge you all to be good ambassadors of the Rescue Mission wherever you find yourselves. To the Transition Committee Chairmen, you must ensure that ongoing projects must be completed especially the schools, chapels etc.”

Following the swearing in of his sister as Commissioner for Happiness and Couples’s Fulfillment in the state, Nigerians have taken to social media to express widespread outrage.

“Nigeria Has The Second Largest HIV Epidemic In The World” – UNAIDS

Featured Image

The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) is claiming that Nigeria has the second largest HIV epidemic in the world and has one of the highest new infection rates in sub-Saharan Africa.

This disclosure was made by the acting Public Affairs Officer of the United States Consulate, Kevin Krapf, during the commemoration of the 2017 World AIDS day held in Lagos.

World AIDS Day: Over 300,000 Persons Living With HIV/AIDS In Benue

He said 720,000 Nigerians are on United States PEPFAR-supported HIV treatment with approximately four million Nigerians having received HIV counseling and testing services in 2017 alone.

The commemoration was organised by the consulate in collaboration with the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) led by the Provost, Professor Babatunde Solagberu.

With the programmed theme: ‘Increasing Impact through Transparency, Accountability and Partnerships’, Krapf said it reflects the US government longstanding leadership in addressing global HIV/AIDS, increasing our impact to move epidemics from crisis toward control.

He said: “It also highlights the historic opportunity to accelerate progress toward controlling, and ultimately ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic as a public health threat in countries around the world.

“Finally, it emphasises the critical role of transparency, accountability, and partnerships in reaching these goals.

“According to the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), Nigeria has the second largest HIV epidemic in the world and has one of the highest new infection rates in sub-Saharan Africa.

“Many people living with HIV in Nigeria are unaware of their status due to insufficient recommended number of HIV testing and counselling centres.

“Low access of antiretroviral treatment remains an issue for people living with HIV in Nigeria, and I welcome the new commitment of the Federal Government of Nigeria to use domestic funds to provide antiretroviral drugs to an additional 50,000 people living with HIV each year.

“The US government, through PEPFAR, has helped not only to save and improve millions of lives, but also transformed the global HIV/AIDS response.

“Currently, more than 720,000 Nigerians are on PEPFAR-supported HIV treatment and approximately four million Nigerians have received HIV counselling and testing services in 2017.

“Also, approximately 50,000 pregnant women have received antiretroviral drugs to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV.” Krapf added: “We are at an unprecedented moment in the global HIV/AIDS response. For the first time in modern history, we have the opportunity to change the very course of a pandemic by controlling it without a vaccine or a cure.

“Controlling the pandemic will lay the groundwork for eliminating or eradicating HIV which we hope will be possible through the future scientific breakthroughs which will lead to an effective HIV vaccine and cure.

“The US government continues to lead the way in the global HIV/AIDS response. But no one country or entity alone can end the AIDS pandemic.

“We are proud to partner governments, the private sector, philanthropic organisations, multilateral institutions, academic institutions, civil society and faith-based organisations, people living with HIV and many others in this project.

“Through this collective effort, we also expect to reduce the future costs required to sustain the HIV/AIDS response.”

“To accelerate progress toward HIV/AIDS epidemic control, PEPFAR continues to leverage the capabilities, assets, and technological know-how of the private sector, creating innovative solutions to complex problems.”

G-Worldwide Drags Kiss Daniel To Court

Featured Image

Just few weeks after his exit from his former Label, G-Worldwide Entertainment to launch a new label, Flyboy INC, Kiss Daniel has been dragged to court by his former label on the grounds of contract breach.

A statement signed by the legal counsel to G-Worldwide revealed that Kiss Daniel signed a 7 year recording contract with the label and has unapologetically breached the contract by appointing a new manger, soliciting for shows, entering performance agreements and continues the use of stage name “Kiss Daniel” without any permission whatsoever from the label.

Meanwhile, you will recall that Kiss Daniel’s former label mate, Sugarboy had given a hint concerning G-Worldwide’s plan to engage in legal battle with the singer.

Here is the Transcript of the law suit below;

The attention of G-Worldwide Entertainment Limited (‘the Company’) has been drawn to acts by Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe (alias ‘Kiss Daniel’), who recently has been making publications on different print media and social media platforms soliciting for bookings to perform songs from his album NEW ERA and EVOLUTION. Mr. Anidugbe executed a 7-year Recording and Artist Management Contract (’the Contract’) with the Company in 2013 and which Contract is still subsisting.

“Contrary to the express provisions of the Contract, Mr. Anidugbe has taken steps to appoint a new manager, solicited for bookings, and has continued to negotiate and enter performance agreements in respect of the songs from the album NEW ERA, and EVOLUTION which is set to be released soon containing singles such as YEBA, FOR YOU, SENORITA, SOFA and others, both produced under the Contract, including using the stage name ‘Kiss Daniel’ without the Company’s prior consent and permission.

Further thereto, the Company has approached the Federal High Court, Lagos in suit no. FHC/L/CS/1758/2017 between G-WORLDWIDE ENT. LIMITED Vs OLUWATOBILOBA DANIEL ANIDUGBE to affirm its rights over the intellectual property under the Contract i.e. copyrights over the songs in both albums, and rights over the stage name: ‘Kiss Daniel’.

By an application dated 20th November 2017, the Company sought interim orders of injunction, and other further orders as the Court may deem fit to make, against Mr. Anidugbe, retraining the Artiste’s further distribution, publication, or performance of these songs, or negotiating or entering any agreement thereof without the consent or permission of G-Worldwide Entertainment Ltd.

The general public and the whole world is hereby put on notice that on the 30th day of November 2017, the Federal High Court made an order that status quo ante bellum under the Contract, be maintained by the parties, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice filed in the suit.

The import of the Order being that the state under which the parties existed under the Contract should be preserved until the Court makes a determination of the motion on notice filed by the Company. All and any dealings in respect of the upload, distribution, and or performance of any of the songs, as well as the use or exploitation of the name ‘Kiss Daniel’ can therefore only be entered or made with the prior written consent and permission of the Company as provided under the Contract.

The general public and the whole world is further cautioned that as the matter is now before a Court of law (subjudice), and following the Order to maintain status quo, any unauthorized upload, distribution, exploitation, performance, sales, and use of the songs (from the NEW ERA and EVOLUTION albums), or stage name ‘Kiss Daniel’, in any show, event, downloading or streaming platform, will be in violation of the Order of the Federal High Court.

Anyone who does or continues to do so shall be liable as an accomplice for contempt of court, and the full weight of the law will be brought against that person as a contemnor.

Real Madrid Looking To Sign Kepa Arrizabalaga And Alvaro Odriozola

Featured Image

Real Madrid want to sign Spain internationals Kepa Arrizabalaga and Alvaro Odriozola before next summer’s World Cup, reports AS.

The club are set to continue their policy of recruiting the best young Spanish players by making moves for goalkeeper Kepa, 23, and right-back Odriozola, 21. They are planning on signing the former in January and the latter at the end of the season.

Kepa is out of contract at Athletic Bilbao in June and Real are willing to activate his €20m buyout clause to secure his services next month. However, Athletic haven’t given up on trying to persuade him to sign a new contract at San Mames.

Madrid are aware that defender Odriozola wants to move to the Bernabeu, but Real Sociedad will not let him leave for less than the value of his €40m buyout clause.

The arrival of Kepa at the Bernabeu would result in Kiko Casilla being allowed to leave Madrid, while the signing of Odriozola would prompt the European champions to loan out youngster Achraf Hakimi.

It’s A Pleasure To Be Missed At Real Madrid – Alvaro Morata

Featured Image

Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata says it’s a pleasure that he is missed at Real Madrid.

Alvaro Morata left the Bernabeu for the second time earlier this year and he has hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge, scoring 10 goals in 20 outings.

Meanwhile, his former club have struggled in front of goal this term, with many suggesting they should have kept hold of the Spain international.

Speaking to TVE, Morata said: “I don’t know if they (Madrid) miss me or not, and it’s a pleasure that they say it. I wish they didn’t have to say it because that would mean that things are going well [for Madrid].”

The 25-year-old also hinted that financial concerns didn’t influence his decision to move to Chelsea.

When asked if he is happy in London, he said: “Knowing that, for each match, you have real options of playing if you train well, that you are going to play…

“If I had searched for things like money or the city [to live in] I would have stayed at home, that had everything.”

Gelson Martins Attracting Interest From Top European Clubs

Featured Image

Sporting Lisbon winger Gelson Martins is attracting interest from across Europe, according to his agent.

Gelson Martins, 22, has been linked with the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Man Utd and Liverpool over the past few seasons.

Ulisses Santos, the winger’s representative, has confirmed that there is interest in his client, who he feels is good enough to thrive away from the Portuguese capital.

“He’s a player with a lot of suitors. There are a lot of clubs interested in him, from La Liga, the Premier League and the Bundesliga,” Santos told Sport.

“As a professional, Gelson has to be ready to leave at any moment or to stay. He plays for the national team and he wants to win titles. Clubs in Portugal have less financial power and need to balance things, be that with transfers or television rights.

“He is a phenomenal player and I don’t think he’s inferior to other players that have left Sporting, like [Luis] Figo, Simao, [Ricardo] Quaresma and Nani.”

Andreas Christensen Can Become A Chelsea ‘Great’- Michael Emenalo

Featured Image

Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen has the potential to build on his breakthrough and become one of the club’s greatest-ever players, according to former technical director Michael Emenalo.

Michael Emenalo was tasked with overseeing player recruitment, Chelsea’s loan network, and the club’s academy during his tenure in west London, and much of the praise for Christensen’s growth into a first-rate defender should be directed at him.

Since returning from his two-year loan spell at Borussia Monchengladbach at the start of this season, Christensen has made 16 appearances in total, and, in the last few weeks, has usurped David Luiz as the first-choice for the central defensive position in Antonio Conte’s three-at-the-back system.

Emenalo refused to be drawn in when asked by Jim White if Christensen is the natural long-term replacement for John Terry, but he did rave about the potential of the 21-year-old Denmark international.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Emenalo said: “The thing I can tell you is Andreas Christensen, with his technical qualities, his personality, his desire, his love for the club… he is a potential great.

“I don’t know how else to put it, but he is a wonderful, wonderful player. We are all thrilled.

“He has shown a lot of intelligence in accepting the pathway provided to him without hesitation – to go to Borussia Monchengladbach – to ensure he is ready to come back and play.

“You don’t hang around in Cobham and keep asking to be given a chance.”

Scores Feared Dead In Fresh Adamawa Communal Violence

Featured Image

Scores of persons have been feared killed in fresh outbreak of communal violence in three villages in Adamawa state.

Daily Trust reports that the incidents occurred on Monday in Lawaru, Dong and Kiken villages in Demsa and Numan Local Government areas.

Speaking to the news outlet, some fleeing residents said that the attack started at about 5am when gunmen, suspected to be herdsmen, allegedly shot their way into Lawaru and Dong villages, before marching towards Kiken in Numan.

Tension had been building up in Numan and neighbouring areas since 55 Fulani women and children were killed in an attack on their settlements by suspected Bachama militiamen two weeks ago.‎

Yesterday, a Bachama man disclosed that the attackers had burnt down three villages inhabited by his tribesmen and killed several persons.

“Fulani herdsmen burnt down Lawuro and Dong and are currently in Kikan, the attack started in the morning but up to this moment, there is no security personnel in the villages. They killed people but we don’t know how many,“ he said.

But the North East leader of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN), Mafindi Danburan, dissociated his members from the attack, saying the group had always preached peaceful coexistence.

Residents of Numan and adjoining villages have remained indoors following the deployment of troops to tame the violent confrontation between the two groups.

It was gathered that there was serious clash in Dong, Kirkum and Balum villages in the outskirt of Numan where some casualties were recorded.

“Some people have been killed in the affected villages, I don’t know how many because there is no movement,” Musa Aliyu, a resident of Numan said.

“It was just like what transpired few days ago in which the Fulanis were killed in Shallwal, Kegegewo, Kekal and Kulunso villages,” he said.

Though curfew had not been declared in the affected localities, residents who spoke on phone said everyone was indoors.

Nigeria Signs Deal With Switzerland To Return $321m Abacha Loot

Featured Image

Nigeria and Switzerland have sealed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will lead to the return of $321 million in assets seized traced to former Nigerian military ruler, Sani Abacha.

“Switzerland will return to Nigeria around 321 million dollars in assets seized from the family of former military ruler Sani Abacha via a deal signed with the World Bank,” the Swiss government said.

The Swiss government said that Switzerland, Nigeria and the World Bank have agreed the funds will be repatriated via a project supported and overseen by the World Bank.

“The project will strengthen social security for the poorest sections of the Nigerian population.

“The agreement also regulates the disbursement of restituted funds in tranches and sets out concrete measures to be taken in the event of misuse or corruption,” the World bank said.

The deal was signed on behalf of Nigeria by Abubakar Malami, the attorney-general of the federation, in Washington DC, US, on Monday afternoon at the headquarters of the World Bank Group.

Transparency International, a corruption watchdog, has accused Abacha of stealing up to five billion dollars of public money during the five years he ran the oil-rich country, from 1993 until his death in 1998.

In 2014, Nigeria and the Abacha family reached an agreement for the West African country to get back the funds, which had been frozen, in return for dropping a complaint against the former military ruler’s son, Abba Abacha.

The son was charged by a Swiss court with money-laundering, fraud and forgery in April 2005, after being extradited from Germany, and later spent 561 days in custody.

In 2006, Luxembourg ordered that funds held by the younger Abacha be frozen.

Keith Hackett Slams Mark Clattenburg Controversial Comments

Featured Image

Keith Hackett has expressed “surprise and disappointment” at hearing what he called the “nonsense” of suggestions that Tottenham Hotspur players were not sent off against Chelsea in 2016 because of how it would look.

Mark Clattenburg , who left the top flight in February earlier this year, was the man in the middle when Tottenham let a two-goal lead slip against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the 2015-16 season.

Tottenham had needed to win what was a bad-tempered match to keep alive their hopes of catching Leicester but it ended in a 2-2 draw. Clattenburg booked nine players – while Chelsea and Spurs received respective fines of £375,000 and £225,000 from the Football Association – but claimed that as many as four Tottenham players could have been dismissed.

“I allowed them (Spurs) to self-destruct so all the media, all the people in the world went, ‘Tottenham lost the title,’” Clattenburg told NBC’s Men in Blazers podcast.

Keith Hackett, who used to be Clattenburg’s boss as general manager of the Professional Game Match Officials Board, has been left baffled by the claims.

“I think it is a nonsense,” The Telegraph quotes Hackett as saying. “It is disappointing to hear him say that he avoided giving a red card for his own self-preservation.

“When I saw the comments, I thought, ‘What’s going on?’ And so have other referees I have spoken to. He is one of the top referees and it is not something I have ever seen in him.”

Hackett said that referees were encouraged to specifically prepare for matches and would try to manage players to avoid problems but that there would never be any question of ducking big decisions.

“I expect referees to be prepared and focussed – that would mean knowing the teams, the environment, the possible tactics and potential adjustments to help perform at your best but, once you cross the white line, you have a blank canvas in terms of the decisions,” he said.

“You try to build your authority and trust as the game progresses. We encourage tempo management and often talk about the need to slow things down. You do not want there to be a confrontation but the referee is working to a code and that is the laws of the game.

“If there is a cautionable offence or a red card, you have to apply the laws of the game. That is your job. There is no ducking the issue. No referee likes to give red cards – you feel a sense of failure if that happens – but that is the law. You make decisions as accurately as you can.”
