Spain

Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale remains a Manchester United target. The Wales international has struggled with injuries in recent years and a move back to the Premier League next summer could be on the cards, with United likely to beat Tottenham Hotspur to his signature. (Diario Gol)

Out of favour at Barcelona, Aleix Vidal could be on the move in January, with Valencia keen on signing him. Valencia are determined to add to their right-back options and have already made contact with the player over a move. (Superdeporte)

Sevilla are set to sign Brazilian full-back Guilherme Arana for a fee of between €12-15m (£10.4m-£13m). The 20-year-old, who plays for Corinthians, represents his country at youth level and was in the Brazilian top division’s team of the season. (Football Espana)

Italy

Roma head coach Eusebio Di Francesco has emerged as a Chelsea target, though other Premier League sides including Arsenal, Everton and Tottenham are also interested in his services. In order to prevent him from leaving, the Italian side could offer him a new contract. (Corriere dello Sport)

Henrikh Mkhitaryan could join Inter in January after dropping out of the Manchester United starting line-up in recent weeks. The Armenia international has been replaced by Jesse Lingard after a series of below-par performances, but a move to Italy could be what is needed to revive his career. (Corriere dello Sport)

Inter have also joined the race for Liverpool’s Emre Can. The German, whose contract expires next summer, has been linked to Juventus, but the Nerazzurri could look to pip their title rivals to his signature as they think he’d be ideal for their 4-3-3 formation. (Tuttosport)

Juventus are on the hunt for defensive reinforcements and Arsenal centre-back Shkodran Mustafi is on their shortlist. The Italian champions sold Leonardo Bonucci to Milan in the summer, while Benedikt Howedes has suffered persistent injury problems. Mustafi’s arrival would add much-needed options to their defence. (Calciomercato)

Another player Juve are monitoring is Fiorentina winger Federico Chiesa. The youngster has been superb this season and could make a big move in future, though the Bianconeri will face competition from Napoli and Inter for the player. (Tuttosport)

France

Huddersfield Town and Newcastle United target Jonathan Bamba is set for talks over a new contract with Saint-Etienne. The striker’s current deal runs out in the summer, but will meet to discuss an extension next Tuesday. (L’Equipe)

Germany

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc went to watch Manchester United’s Champions League clash with Basel in order to keep tabs on Swiss centre-back Manuel Akanji. With defence being a problem for BVB this season, the 22-year-old is seen as a potential solution. (Kicker)

Having scored four goals and provided one assist in his last four appearances, Yunus Malli is certain to attract attention from some of Europe’s top clubs. Due to a clause in his contract, the Wolfsburg man can move for €45m (£39.2m) before 2021. (Kicker)

Concert Review: Maleek Berry’s Last Daze Of Summer Concert

Featured Image

Nigerian pop music has never been bigger, or more diverse than what is on offer today. Davido is huge, and so is Wizkid. But on another less mainstream, far more interesting level, a wavy new generation of artistes are putting in the work, dropping diverse material and building up audiences from organically.

Maleek Berry, the UK based producer who made a huge splash when he produced Wizkid’s monster hit, The Matter back in 2013, may be the unofficial leader of this movement. He may not have the physical charisma to stand out in a crowd of his peers but his work ethic, not to mention willingness to collaborate across various sounds and cultures easily places him in a formidable position where he can influence the careers of his peers.

Headlining a concert marking the Lagos close out of his Last Daze of Summer tour at the Hard Rock Café, Thursday night, Berry gave an explosive account of himself and delivered a show packed with great energy, spontaneous moments and a thrilling sense of accomplishment.

It isn’t that Maleek Berry has overnight become a sensational vocalist, or a sturdy rapper. No, his main selling point is still his ability to craft songs and melodies that can easily be sung along by audiences as they ascend the top of the charts and end up receiving multiple spins from the most influential deejays. He does this quite well. Because of this, a large part of Berry’s act has to involve collaborations. He does collaborations smartly and beautifully.

The opening acts for the Last Daze of Summer concert featured artistes who have made inventive use of the internet to harness their sound and push forward their artistry. D-O was a decent primer, so was Odunsi the Engine, but Wavy the Creator proved an instant stand out, elevating the tone and mood of the event with her gimmicky, electric sound that demands further interrogation. Good luck turning away from her arresting and visually involving stage presence. The music helped too.

Host, Jimmie introduced DJ Spinall who wasted no time pulling out a surprise from his hat in the form of Mr Eazi. Both acts tore through a crowd friendly version of Spinall’s Ohema before settling with Eazi’s Pour me water and Leg Over.

Not done with the collaborations, Maleek Berry about midway in to his performance, invited fast rising crooner, Nonso Amadi for a brief run through of their collaborative work, Early. Amadi then led the band through an off the cuff rendition of his hit Tonight. Jagaban rapper, Ycee also showed up for the splendid duet, Juice as well as a solo run of his own material.

But the night belonged to Maleek Berry who proved with effective gusto that he could exist as a complete artiste should he put some effort to it. And there was plenty effort. Naturally charismatic, Berry sang as much as his voice and the café’s extra loud sound set up could carry him and danced along to his own material. he was enjoying himself, obviously and the excitement was catching.

Berry performed songs from his terrific 2016 EP as well as material he has recorded elsewhere. All of them were hits with the audience as they expressed their appreciation for the man of the moment by singing along, sometimes word for word, to tracks like Eko Miami, Let me Know and of course, Been Calling.

He teased two songs, Sisi Maria and Pon My Mind off an upcoming EP, First Daze of Winter, before reaching back and closing with fan favorites, The Matter and Kontrol.

The Last Daze of Summer concert succeeded in satiating fans who have followed Maleek Berry’s career from London to Lagos. Offering terrific guest performances, popular songs, a healthy dose of thrill factor and an artistic involvement usually absent at events like this, even for established stars, Maleek Berry and the Eclipse Live team put up a show worth staying up for.

The man sure knows how to lead from the front.

WATCH! Video Of FRSC Official Engaging Woman In Fist Fight Goes Viral

Featured Image

A “disturbing” video has emerged and gone viral on the internet in which an official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) can be seen publicly engaging a woman in a fist fight.

The video, which was shared online by an eyewitness and obtained by The Nation, showed the FRSC officer throwing punches at the woman, while she reciprocated the ugly gesture.

While the cause of the fist fight is yet to be ascertained, the FRSC official can be seen in the footage slapping the woman while attempting to take off his belt to flog her.

The location and time of the incident couldn’t be ascertained, but parties in the video could be heard speaking the Hausa language.

Towards the end of the 1min 24secs minute video, the apparently infuriated FRSC officer got involved in a scuffle with another female passenger — an elderly woman — who alighted from the vehicle to challenge him. He was given a dirty slap upon exchange of heated words.

This is not the first time road safety officials will engage motorists in a fight.

In July, the conduct of some officials of the FRSC was questioned amid outrage after a video showing a female officer struggling with the driver of a moving car along Wuse Road, Abuja, went viral on the Internet.

Diddy, Beyonce And Drake Top Forbes’ Highest-Paid Musicians Of 2017 List (See Top 10)

Featured Image

US hip-hop superstar and business mogul, Sean Combs, a.k.a P Diddy, has emerged Forbes highest earning musician for the year, without releasing any album for the period.

“Diddy is the top-earning musician on the planet, pulling in a career-best 130 million dollars pretax this year.

“His total got a boost from his Bad Boy Family Reunion Tour, his Ciroc vodka deal and the sale of one-third of his Sean John clothing line for an estimated 70 million dollars.”

Forbes says Diddy has used a combination of charisma, smarts and showmanship to elevate himself from modest means to the top of an empire that encompasses music, spirits, clothing, television and more.

“I’m the average person,” Diddy told Forbes earlier this year.

“I started looking at business at the age of 12, from delivering newspapers to working in gas station bathrooms, or even doing things like being a background dancer or a stylist.

“Whatever I could do to get close to the industry,” he said.

The rapper and actor was followed by Beyonce, who took home $105m in earnings, thanks to her Formation World Tour, which wrapped up in late 2016 and so fell into the Forbes scoring period. The entire tour grossed a whopping $250m.

Drake, the world’s acclaimed most-streamed artist in recent years, rounds up the top three with 94 million dollars, much of it from his Boy Meets World Tour.

Drake, The Weeknd and British band Coldplay made up the rest of the top five, earning between $94 – $84m each.

The youngest on the list was Justin Bieber, who earned the biggest annual figure of his career thanks to 105 live shows that took place during the Forbes scoring period.

He also reaped the rewards of a lucrative Calvin Klein endorsement deal, a series of ‘JustMoji’ icons, and more than a billion streams – many of which will have come from his massive hit collaboration on “Despacito” with Daddy Yankee and Luis Fonsi.

Here is the top 10 below:

1) Diddy ($130m)

2) Beyonce ($105m)

3) Drake ($94m)

4) The Weeknd ($92m)

5) Coldplay ($88m)

6) Guns N’ Roses ($84m)

7) Justin Bieber ($83.5m)

8) Bruce Springsteen ($75m)

9) Adele ($69m)

10) Metallica ($66.5m)

The highest earning artistes list is generated considering pretax income from June 1, 2016 through June 1, 2017, fees charged by agents, managers and lawyers inclusive.

“We gathered data from Nielsen SoundScan, Pollstar, the RIAA and interviews with industry insiders,” Forbes said.

I Expected A Sh*t Media Story After Resting Jordan Henderson- Jurgen Klopp

Featured Image

Jurgen Klopp has said that he dropped Jordan Henderson from his starting lineup for the game with Spartak Moscow because “it made sense”.

After Jordan Henderson was only named on the bench for the crucial Champions League encounter on Wednesday game, question marks were raised why the club’s captain was not involved.

However, Klopp has dismissed that there were any underlying reason why the England international was named as a replacement, claiming that he expected a “sh*t” story to emerge in the media.

Jurgen Klopp told reporters: “Even a captain cannot play all the time. Jordan’s in a good moment but I thought it made sense. I knew people would make a sh*t story of it.

‘You need the players on the pitch who 100 per cent understand what a derby is about.

“Being the skipper of Liverpool is the hardest job in world football because the man before you was Steven Gerrard.”

Jurgen Klopp Reveals He’s Getting Frustrated Of Being Asked About Philippe Coutinho’s Future

Featured Image

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he is growing tired of frequently having to answer questions about the future of Philippe Coutinho.

Barcelona have held an interest in Philippe Coutinho, despite Liverpool maintaining that the Brazilian international is not for sale.

With the January transfer window edging closer, Klopp is having to deal with constant speculation regarding the midfielder, but the German has reiterated that “there is nothing to say” about the situation.

The 50-year-old told reporters: “I have no reason to think about it. We never spoke about transfers. Whatever I could say would not stop your questions, so I think I just don’t answer it. It’s just a bit of a waste of time. There is nothing to say at this moment.

“Nobody came to me and say he will be going away. I am fine with the situation how it is. I have no desire to have the story again until January.”

Meet The Deportee Who Prefers Libya To Nigeria – Says No To Obaseki’s N20,000 Monthly Stipend

Featured Image

A 27-year old Nigerian, Obehi Diamond, who was recently deported to Nigeria from Libya, has described the North Africa country as the best place where a young man can work and earn good money if there was a central government in the country.

The apparently ungrateful returnee said this while rejecting the N20,000 monthly stipend Governor Godwin Obaseki promised to pay Libya deportees, adding that over there, he makes that amount in 2 days.

Speaking with The Nation in Benin, Obehi disclosed that he would not attend any training organised by the Edo State Government because he was already a professional.

He said: “The training from Obaseki is out of point. I don’t want to under go any training here in Edo. If I have my money, I will go to Lagos and start working immediately. I cannot collect N20,000 monthly from Obaseki. That is no money. That is what I work in Libya in two days. I don’t need any training. What I need is money to start off. My fiancée is still in prison in Libya. I am expecting her to be brought back soon.”

He also recounted his ordeal in Libya; how he was swindled by a lady he gave N520,000 to take him to Europe in 2011 by flight but the woman abandoned him in Libya.

Obehi continued: “I left Nigeria in 2012. I paid money for flight but the women betrayed me and took me through land to Libya. I paid her N520,000 in 2011. She kept on promising me that I will soon leave. She later asked me to go to Libya that there was somebody to receive me until I will leave for Europe. When I got to Libya, Richard told me I could not travel by air because there is on government in Libya.

“I started working in Libya and earning 1,500dinars every month but Richard was collecting 1000 dinars every month from the money. He kept collecting money from me for four months.

“I later told him that I cannot be working and he will be collecting the money. Richard told my boss to stop paying me. He told me to leave his house and I started sleeping in the street inside abandoned vehicles. I later met a boy who took me to his house in a mechanic workshop. I got a job somewhere and was earning 2000 dinars. From there I was sending money to my parents in Nigeria to take care off themselves. My friend found a job for me in Tripoli and I was working well.

“In 2014, I was going to take measurement for a job, policemen stop the vehicle I was in. I was the only black inside. After interrogation, they tore my papers. I spent eight months in four different prisons. I got a phone to call my friend and he told me to look for a policeman to bail me out. In Libya, there is no lawyer to bail you. A policeman helped me out and I paid him 120,000 dinars. I started working again in Tripoli till 2016 when fight started. I found another place to work in downtown due to fighting in Tripoli. After a month, I asked my boss to calculate the money and it was 4000 dinars. He wanted it pay me 600 dinars and I refused. I stopped the work because I am a professional. I could get work easily because people used to call me for work. The man pursued me and said I must work for him. He took thugs to pursue me and for my safety I decided to work for 600 dinars.

“When I was arrested in Tripoli, I spent 15 months in prison before I was deported.  I was not planning to go to Europe. In Libya, there is work. Libya is the best country in aspect of money and work. There is no country to compare to Libya. The problem is the lack of government. Libya is the best place for a young man to work and survive. There is money in Libya if you are a good workman. There is future in Libya for those that are not lazy.

“Since 2015, there was no means to send money home. Libyans know that we blacks do keep money at home. When they caught me, they went to my house to collect my money. They took my property. I lost everything. They took huge money from me. If I had come home with that money, I would not have depend on government to help me, I will just open my shop immediately.

“If the state government help me to open my shop, I will not think of traveling again. The pattern of aluminum work in Libya is different so I had to learn from an Egyptian.

“There is nobody that go to Libya that does not have skills except the Benin boys. The Benin boys are lazy. I don’t play with my work when I was in Libya even on Fridays.”

Outrage As Gov Yahaya Bello Unveils His New Mansion Amid Complaints By Kogi Workers

Featured Image

There was outrage on social media on Thursday as photos emerged of a state-of-the-art building said to belong to the Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.

TheCable reports that the state governor completed and commissioned the mansion, which is located along Mahmoud Atta street, GRA in Okene.

It was gathered that the house warming attracted dignitaries including Abdul Rahman Ado Ibrahim, the Ohinoyi of Ebira land, while an insider was quoted to have described the mansion as “a thing of beauty.”

The house commissioning comes at a time in the state when workers are groaning following many months of unpaid salary and other allowances.

In October, 360nobs had reported that a director with the state civil service committed suicide by hanging himself on a tree for reportedly not being able to meet his family’s financial needs.

This news outlet on October 21, 2017 quoted NAN as saying that the deceased, Edward Soje, took his life barely 10 days after his wife of 17 years gave birth to a set of male triplets in a private hospital in Abuja – with the couple reported to have been childless before then.

The Grade Level 16 Officer in the Kogi State Teaching Service Commission, who hails from Ogori town in Ogori -Magongo Local Government area of the state, was being owed 11 months’ salary arrears as at the time he took his life.

Although, Bello had recently promised to pay all the salary and pension arrears of serving and retired civil servants in the state before the end of the year, tracing the genesis of the delay in the payment to the huge debts which he claimed that his administration inherited from the immediate past administration, but some Nigerians seem unhappy following the house commissioning.

Video-Assistant-Referee To Be Used In FA Cup Tie Between Brighton And Crystal Palace

Featured Image

January’s third-round FA Cup clash between Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace will be the first competitive club match in England where Video-Assistant-Referee is used.

In March, the Football Association claimed that it would trial the Video Assistant Referee technology in this season’s FA Cup, and the fixture between Premier League rivals Brighton and Palace has been chosen.

VAR, which was trialed in England’s goalless draw with Germany in November, is used in game-changing situations – goals, penalties and straight red cards.

A two-year trial was approved in 2016, and the technology has been used in the Club World Cup, Bundesliga, Serie A and the MLS with varied success.

Meanwhile, it has been announced that Manchester United’s third-round clash with Derby County will not be shown live on television.

Seun Kuti And Egypt 80 Announce Release Date For New Album ‘Black Times’ Feat. Carlos Santana

Featured Image

Seun Kuti, the youngest son of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti, and Egypt 80 have announced that they will release their fourth album ‘Black Times’ via celebrated UK label Strut Records on March 2, 2018.

It is understood that the upcoming 8-song album, which he did alongside the Egypt 80, features the likes of Carlos Santana and Robert Glasper.

Seun took to social media on Thursday to share the album’s title track and lead single “Black Times,” which plays like a potent afrobeat blend of soaring saxophones and guitar riffs.

Incensed by injustice just like his father, the new album honors the revolutionaries who have gone and also rallies the torchbearers to come.

Speaking on the album, he said: “Black Times is a true reflection of my political and social beliefs.”

“It is an album for anybody who believes in change and understands the duty we have to rise up and come together. The elites always try to divide the working class and the poor people of the world. The same oppression felt by workers in Flint, Michigan is felt by workers in Lagos and Johannesburg.”

“We are all capable of change, us iron people, us workers. Black Times is the sound of the people, and a weapon of the future. The big picture needs more colour.”

Listen to “Black Times” featuring Carlos Santana below:

Micheal Essien Fears Eden Hazard Might Join Real Madrid

Featured Image

Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien has admitted that he fears Eden Hazard could leave the Blues for Real Madrid.

Real Madrid are said to be long-term admirers of Eden Hazard, who has scored eight times and provided seven assists in 19 appearances for Chelsea during the 2017-18 campaign.

Essien has conceded that the Spanish giants will be a big draw for Hazard, but the 35-year-old is hopeful that the Premier League champions will be able to tie the Belgian international to a new long-term contract.

“He could go to Real Madrid to win the Balon d’Or easier,” Essien told Goal.com. “When we talk about Eden, he is such a good player. He’s very quick, very good on the ball. He’s very strong, he may be little but he is strong, trust me! It is hard to get the ball off him.

“He’s such a good player and we’re happy to have him at Chelsea but I’d understand why Madrid would be looking at him. He is proving it week-in, week-out. At the moment he is the most important player [at Chelsea]. When you have Hazard, he can always do something.

“He can always create something to do something with the ball. He makes goals for himself or others. He has that magic touch. I think that Chelsea need to renew his contract. You don’t want your best players to leave and we need him at the club.

“I think he is only motivated about playing football, he just enjoys playing football. It would take a lot of money to replace him [at Chelsea] but I hope that they can tie him down for a long time.”

Featured Image

The federal government has identified 5,000 more Nigerians trapped in Libyan detention camps.

The Charge d’Affaires of Nigeria in Libya, Illiya Fachano, told the News Agency of Nigeria “there is a camp with 5000 Nigerians and we need the diplomatic police to escort us to extract them.

“There are various camps in the regions of South, West and East of Libya.

“The UN-backed Libyan Government is in the western region which is where Tripoli is.

“Camps in the other regions are known but inaccessible camps due to the challenges of going into these camps as a communication chain is required before we can reach them,” he said.

He said that the Nigerian government has been in talks with the recognised government in Tripoli on how to reach some of the camps to extract its nationals.

FG Identifies 2,778 Nigerians In Libya Detention Camps

Mr. Fachano called for the provision of a bigger aircraft to evacuate Nigerians who has have agreed to come back home.

“We need the Nigerian government to better fund its embassy in Libya and send the aircraft.

“We have made our request for that.”

He called on the UN to help out by sponsoring repatriation flights, provide food and health materials for the migrants.

He said the federal government has so far repatriated 3250 from Libya in recent times.

This is even as 300 other Nigerians are to be repatriated from Libya every week.

Mr. Fachano said the government would continue to make efforts to save Nigerians that are trapped in Libya.

“We, the embassy of Nigeria in Tripoli, Libya, have been doing our best to register Nigerians.

“We have visited the detention camps, and also collaborated with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) to repatriate migrants weekly.

“We also ensure that we are up to date with the number of Nigerians in specific detention camps.

“I want it to be clear that the mission and Nigerian government have been doing this long before the CNN report.’’

“We have asked the Nigerian presidency to provide us with an extra airplane to assist with quick repatriation of registered Nigerians who are willing to return.

“I want the public to know that we have some Nigerians who are not willing to return despite the unfavourable situations and the fact is that we can’t get them on the flight without their consent.

Mr. Fachano said that the repatriation exercise would be a continuous exercise.

He also said 3250 Nigerians have so far been repatriated from Libya in recent times, while 300 other Nigerians are to be repatriated from Libya every week.

He said that the government would continue to engage the legitimate government in Libya and other stakeholders in addressing the plight of Nigerian migrants in that country.

NAN reports that the Foreign Ministry has urged citizens to reach the Nigerian Embassy in Libya for assistance through these emergency numbers: +218910144487, +218925099384 and +218917953365.

“The contact email addresses for the embassy and the ministry are: nigeria@nigeriantripoli.org and help@foreignaffairs.gov.ng.

The ministry said that the embassy had received requests for intervention from some relations of the victims based in Nigeria through these contacts.

Chris Hughton Accepts Jurgen Klopp’s Apology Over Handshake Snub

Featured Image

Brighton manager Chris Hughton has revealed that he has accepted the apology of Jurgen Klopp after an incident at the end of their game on Saturday.

When the two managers were about to shake hands after Liverpool’s 5-1 win, Klopp was momentarily distracted by Mohamed Salah, leading to Hughton taking offence.

Jurgen Klopp has since said sorry and reiterated that his snub was not intentional, and Hughton has attempted to end the matter by praising the German for his gesture.

Chris Hughton told reporters: “Credit to Jurgen because he came looking for me afterwards as I was doing the press at the time and I’ve heard his comments, and I very much believe his comments.

“Sometimes it’s an emotional game and even from myself, when you have been on the bad end of a 5-1 defeat, you’re obviously not too happy and can be angry yourself and possibly, my reaction is a little bit different if our result is a little bit better.

“Occasionally some of these things happen and I do believe that it was something that he did not do intentionally. You certainly don’t want to take the emotions out of the game.”

West Brom Manager Alan Pardew Fears Losing Jonny Evans

Featured Image

West Brom boss Alan Pardew admits he fears losing Jonny Evans next month amid renewed speculation regarding the Albion captain.

Evans was a summer transfer target for Manchester City, Arsenal and Leicester, with all three clubs having offers for the 29-year-old turned down as West Brom stuck to an asking price in excess of £30m.

“There’s interest in him because there was interest in the summer and it makes sense to stir it up – it makes good headlines for the media and I understand that and we deal with it,” said Pardew, who will take chargecharge. of West Brom for the second time against Swansea on Saturday.

“Jonny’s dealt with it in his way. He was terrific for me against Crystal Palace, I can only go on his performance and I thought he was outstanding.

“You are never confident when you’ve got great players because other clubs want great players so your best players are always vulnerable.

“Jonny Evans is certainly one of them, and he’s our captain. Do I want to lose him? Of course not. Do I fear losing him? Of course I do.”
