EFCC Confirms That Unknown Gunmen Attacked Magu’s House

Featured Image

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday evening confirmed an attack by unknown gunmen on a property belonging to its Acting Chairman, Mr Ibrahim Magu.

In a statement this evening, the spokesman of the commission, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, said the attackers murdered a police sergeant guarding the property located in Karshi, a suburb of Abuja.

His words: “The property, a farmhouse located in Karshi, a suburb of Abuja, was attacked by unknown gunmen at about 10 p.m. on Dec. 12, 2017.”

“The unidentified men murdered a police sergeant on duty. The incident was the second such attack on the same farmhouse.”

Wilson said the commission would not speculate on the motive of the attack.

He, however, stated that the EFCC under the leadership of Magu would not be deterred in its mission to rid the country of corruption.

“While the commission will not speculate on the motives for the attack or the sponsors, it wishes to state that the EFCC under the leadership of Ibrahim Magu will not be deterred in its mission to rid Nigeria of corruption,” he added.

This latest attack came barely 48 hours after Magu said the anti-corruption will be a do-or-die affair.

Speaking on Monday after a walk to mark the anti-corruption Day, Magu said:

“For those of us on this side; in the anti-corruption agencies of government, in the media, and civil society, the dagger is drawn and I believe I am speaking the mind of everyone on this side that we intend to neither retreat nor surrender in our noble intention to cure our country of the evils of corruption.

“For us as a country, the fight against corruption is a ‘do or die’ affair; we have to win the battle or die trying.”

Over 100,000 Nigerians Displaced By Boko Haram Get National Identity Cards

Featured Image

Some 100,000 Nigerians made homeless by Boko Haram received formal identification papers on Wednesday, to help boost security and restore normality in the country’s restive northeast.

The United Nations High Commission for Refugees began documenting personal details of the displaced at the Dalori camp, just outside the Borno state capital, Maiduguri.

Dangana Ibrahim, from the agency, told AFP that: “We are capturing their data and issuing them with temporary ID pending the production of the ID card in the next week.”

At least 20,000 people have been killed and more than 2.6 million displaced in the eight-year conflict, which has destroyed livelihoods and triggered a humanitarian crisis.

About 1.8 million people live in camps or with relatives in the worst-affected states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa. Others have fled to Niger, Chad and Cameroon.

According to the UNHCR, 99 percent of vulnerable IDP (internally displaced people) households in Borno state lack legal documentation.

Even before the insurgency began, levels of registration and documentation were low, and were compounded by lack of literacy. When fighting broke out, civilians were at risk.

Ibrahim said a female IDP had been shot as a soldier mistook her for a suicide bomber, as she could not produce any identification.

In May, UNHCR regional representative for West Africa, Liz Ahua, said more than 200,000 Nigerian refugees in Niger, Chad and Cameroon also lacked “adequate documentation”.

That made their “access to protection and rights” more difficult, she added.

“The link between issues of statelessness, sustaining peace and security in the region cannot be separated as statelessness can lead to insecurity and instability.

“Stateless persons could easily be used as tools of destruction.”

Borno state is being given priority for ID cards because it has been hardest hit by the insurgency but Ibrahim said there were plans to extend the scheme.

AFP also reports that the UNHCR is working with Nigeria’s National Identity Card Management Commission, as well as village chiefs of displaced communities, he added.

Numan And Demsa Killings: The Ignored Bigger Picture Behind The Carnage

Numan And Demsa Killings: The Ignored Bigger Picture Behind The Carnage, By David Dimas

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

I never imagined I would be writing about this topic again. But I guess I was wrong. In the early hours of Monday, December 4, 2017, two communities in Demsa and Numan Local government areas were attacked by alleged Fulani herdsmen. A friend’s wife was killed in the attack. At the end of the carnage that lasted for hours, the communities’ traditional leaders, with men, women and children were dead and houses were set ablaze. Survivors and eye witnesses said the aggressive hitmen were well-armed.

This piece was written by David Dimas. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

When news of the violence got to the presidency, the vice president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, in company of the State governor, Senator Jibrilla Bindow swiftly visited the area to access the amount of destruction carried out by the assassins.

The federal government‘s choice of sending the vice president to location of carnage while the president goes on campaign in Kano State against the backdrop of another mass killing in the country is callous.

This poor political mathematics has, indeed, left the people of Numan and Demsa with no choice but to hold the view that either the president is sitting on the fence or he has been caught between two stools regarding killings by these alleged Fulani herdsmen.

As a consequence, the government has to be prepared for tough negotiations with the people of Numan and Demsa as they are now prone to drive a hard bargain come 2019 elections.

In the past, high ranking officials, appointed to pull the wool over people’s eyes, have been quick to push the narrative that the violent herdsmen who attacked in one part of the country were not Nigerians but that they migrated from neighbouring countries. If it had stopped there and the “foreigners” never struck again, there would have been little cause for alarm. But that’s not the case. If my memory serves me right, the alleged Fulani herdsmen have struck in Kaduna, Plateau, Benue, Enugu, Ekiti, Imo, Zamfara and Adamawa States. How come then well-armed ‘foreigners’ are able to move around the country freely killing Nigerians in almost ten states but have remained undetected? Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, some leaders and elders are still living in denial.

This perpetual denial of carnages by herdsmen across the country does not in any way present the leaders as sincere and ready to stop the rampaging killers, especially as the president has hardly spoken against this mass execution of Nigerians by the alleged “foreigners”.

Nigerians had, at the start of this slayings, imagined that the incident was a storm in a tea cup which would blow away in no time. But again, time and the killers have proved us wrong. The herdsmen versus farmers’ crisis has continually set off a chain reaction of blood bath that would forever resonate with families of farmers, herdsmen and first responders.

I dare say that there is an ignored bigger picture behind this crisis. Ours is a country where hypocrisy and denial reigns supreme. It will take a shift in consciousness at a foundational level to stop Nigerians from always pushing our beloved Nigeria to the edge of uncertainty. We are gradually becoming a society where genocide is been normalised because truth itself has been robbed of significance. We need to take stock of our situations and be honest with the remote causes of issues in order to get lasting solutions.

Here is an unnecessary but important reminder to our leaders and elders: No amount of propaganda can penetrate the stubborn wall of evidence. The need for a federal solution to this spillage of blood and guts is long overdue. We cannot allow reactionary religious beliefs and tribalism to undo what the return of democracy to Nigeria has helped us achieve so far. This is the subject that Nigerians, especially the people of Numan and Demsa, are sincerely concerned about.

David Moyes Interested In Taking Jack Wilshere On Loan

Featured Image

West Ham boss David Moyes has hinted his interest in bringing Jack Wilshere to the London Stadium the January window, should Arsenal make the England man available.

Jack Wilshere has been largely limited to Europa League appearances and the occasional substitute role in the Premier League for the Gunners this season.

And Moyes said: “Jack Wilshere would be someone who we’d have to look at if he was available.

“I do believe the transfer window could be the difference between relegation and staying up. If we can get the right players, that’s the big part of it.

“I also want to make sure we’re looking at players who can be at the club for a long period and not just in for a short period.”

Willian Very Happy To Be At Chelsea

Featured Image

Willian has assured Chelsea fans he wants to stay at Stamford Bridge, even though he has not been a regular starter this season.

“I’m happy here and the fans can be calm,” said the Brazilian after starring in Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Huddersfield last night.

“I’m always happy here at Chelsea. I really like this club a lot with my heart. Yeah, I’m very happy.”

Willian has been repeatedly linked with a move to title rivals United after growing frustration over his lack of game time under Antonio Conte.

The Brazil international has started only 12 games this season, but responded to his recall by heading home the second and laying on both Chelsea’s other goals for Tiemoue Bakayoko and Pedro.

“Of course I’m very happy,” he said. “When I play, I always try to do my best to help the team to score goals to make assists and I did that with my team-mates.”

Chelsea bounced back from Saturday’s defeat at West Ham by finally producing a display worthy of champions against Huddersfield.

Report: Alex Sandro Prefers Move To Chelsea

Featured Image

Juventus defender Alex Sandro has reportedly decided to move to Chelsea rather than join Manchester United

Throughout the summer, Alex Sandro was heavily linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge only for a deal not to materialise, and United have allegedly started to show an interest in the left-back.

However, according to The Sun, Sandro has indicated that he wants to move to London rather than the North-West of England.

The 26-year-old has allegedly told Juventus that he would like to leave in January, leaving the Serie A giants braced for offers for his signature.

Sandro has made 14 starts for Juventus in Italy’s top flight and the Champions League this season, while the Brazilian still has two-and-a-half years years remaining on his contract.

Philippe Coutinho And Yerry Mina Would Be Fantastic Signings For Barcelona- Andreas Iniesta

Featured Image

Andres Iniesta has reignited talk of a possible move by Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona following the club’s unsuccessful courtship of the Liverpool man during the summer.

The Catalan side had numerous bids for the Brazilian turned down by the Reds as they sought to fill the gap left in their side by Neymar’s record-breaking move to Paris St Germain.

Barca have also been linked with Colombian defender Yerry Mina, with Javier Mascherano being touted as possibly being on his way out of the Camp Nou, and Iniesta believes the pair would make fine additions to Ernesto Valverde’s table-toppers.

“I think they would be two important reinforcements to the squad,” he told reporters. “If the club wants to strengthen those positions, it should be with players that can be prepared to withstand the pressure of a club like this, and they would be two big signings.

“But nothing has happened, so it’s difficult.”

Pep Guardiola Is The Most Immature Manager I’ve Worked It- Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Featured Image

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has described Pep Guardiola as the “most immature” coach of his career after their falling out during the forward’s time at Barcelona during the 2009-10 season.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic ended his one campaign at Camp Nou with 21 goals to his name, but the majority of those strikes came during the first half of the season before the Swedish forward questioned his boss’s use of Lionel Messi.

Guardiola promptly dropped Ibrahimovic before loaning him to AC Milan, and the veteran striker has suggested that his former boss would not entertain any communication with him.

The 36-year-old told Sky Sports Italia: “I’d scored a lot of goals in my first six months and we won two Super Cups. The first six months were perfect. After that, we changed system and tactics, and it wasn’t good for me, so the club told me to talk to Guardiola.

“I told Guardiola that he’d sacrificed the other players for Messi. He told me he understood me. After that, he put me on the bench for the next game, the one after that and the one after that, And I thought, ‘he’s solved the problem very well I see!’ After that, he didn’t talk to me or even look at me.

“I’d walk into a room and he’d walk out. I’d go to meet him and he’d go somewhere else. I understood that there was something beyond football. He’d already judged me then, but if you don’t know a person then you can’t judge them. I had my experience with him, I don’t know about others.”

“But I read the same thing had happened to Mandzukic and Eto’o. He wasn’t the worst coach I’d worked under, but he was certainly the most immature because a man solves his problems.”

Italy

Gianluigi Donnarumma could leave AC Milan as soon as January, but a summer sale is more likely. The 18-year-old goalkeeper and his agent Mino Raiola were no longer happy with the contract signed last summer and are looking to annul it based on the idea he had been psychologically pressured into signing it.

Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain would be the most likely destination for Donnarumma should he leave, and if there’s a complete breakdown in relations, a January deal could be on the cards. There is no release clause in his AC Milan contract and he would cost at least €40m (£35m). (La Gazzetta dello Sport)

Sime Vrsaljko has agreed to join Napoli, with the Atletico Madrid defender keen on a return to Italy after previously playing for Sassuolo and Genoa. The Serie A side are yet to agree a fee with the Spanish club. They have offered €25m (£22m) but, with the right-back also a Monaco and Liverpool transfer target, they fear the price could be pushed up. (Corriere dello Sport)

Spain

Barcelona have lined up three options for January. Their first choice remains Philippe Coutinho, but if a move for the Liverpool attacker falls through, they will either move for Gremio’s Arthur or Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil. (Sport)

Paris Saint-Germain want Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak when the transfer window opens. They are willing to throw in Javier Pastore as part of any deal for the goalkeeper to try and tempt the La Liga side into selling. (AS)

Villarreal could recall Alfonso Pedraza from his loan at Alaves to sell him for his €20m (£17.6m). The 21-year-old, who can play either left-back or winger and spent the second half of last season on loan at Leeds United, is attracting interest from Premier League clubs and is also a Barcelona transfer target. (Marca)

Germany

Everton transfer target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is unlikely to leave Borussia Dortmund in January. The club are more interested in buying than selling, with Ajax’s Matthijs de Ligt and Basel’s Manuel Akanji on their radar. (SportBild)

Jupp Heynckes has urged the Bayern Munich hierarchy to extend goalkeeper Sven Ulreich’s contract. The 29-year-old has featured for the Bavarian giants a lot more than usual this season due to Manuel Neuer’s injury, and his contract is up in the summer. Heynckes backed Ulreich, claiming he did not need another goalkeeper in January, saying: “I’d recommend Bayern to start talks as soon as possible about extending the contract. A goalkeeper won’t be coming in during the winter transfer window. I don’t think that’s necessary.” (Bild)

Bayern Munich legend Oliver Kahn believes a European super league is inevitable. He said: “Sooner or later, the best European teams will probably play in a league.” (SportBild)

France

Paris Saint-Germain want to bring in Fluminense holding midfielder Wendel. His agent, Carlos Henrique Brasil, says an agreement was agreed between the 20-year-old and PSG in early November. The Brazilian would cost €10m(£8.8m), which normally wouldn’t be a problem for the Ligue 1 leaders, but may cause some issues under financial fair play after their big spending last summer. (L’Equipe)

After going to Brazil because of a ‘family problem’ regarding his sister Rafaella, Neymar should return to PSG today. (L’Equipe)

Lille have been handed a transfer ban for flouting regulations, while PSG have not been punished for their heavy spending. (L’Equipe)

Contract Or Slavery? Kiss Daniel’s Lawyer Reveals Shocking Details About Legal Tussle With G-Worldwide

Featured Image

More details have emerged following the ongoing legal tussle between Kiss Daniel and former record label, G-Worldwide. Kiss Daniel’s legal counsel recently released fresh statement revealing the unpleasant circumstances that neccesitate his client’s break-away from G-worldwide.

According to Kiss Daniel’s lawyers ‘L & A Legal consultants’,

Kiss Daniel did not walk out of his contract. He only terminated it as he is permitted to do under the contract. Is it now a sin for a party to exercise a right expressly conferred on him by law/contract? Is it the fault of Kiss Daniel that the contract has a termination clause that allows Kiss Daniel to terminate the contract? We should bear in mind that the contract was drafted by G-Worldwide Entertainment. Kiss Daniel scrupulously followed the provision of the contract. It is unfortunate that people are mixing this case up with that of other artists running away from a contract they signed. No! This is different. This is a case of an Artist insisting that the contract signed by the parties must be obeyed and enforced. Kiss Daniel is firm believer in rule of law and due process. This was why it was Kiss Daniel that went to court first. People should not confuse a case of properly terminated contract with cases of ill-advised artists who angrily walked out of their contract without following the laid down procedure under their contracts. Kiss Daniel’s case is a well thought out act. It is an exercise of right granted to him by the contract between him and his label. What do people want from Nigerian artist? If they don’t employ lawyers, people criticize them. Now that Kiss Daniel has employed one of the best I.P. law firm in Nigeria with a Professor of I.P. and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), people are still calling him names for acting in accordance with his contract! When Artist don’t obey or assert their rights under their contracts, people abused them, yet the same people are abusing Kiss Daniel for obeying and enforcing the Termination Clause provided in his contract! Na wa o. This is not a Kiss Daniel’s fight alone. This is a fight for all Nigerian artists except we are saying only artists must obey and comply with contract but record label are free to do as they wish?

As against the rumour making grounds that Kiss Dainiel left G-Worldwide on illegal grounds without following due process, his legal counsel disclosed that the artistes only terminated the contract out of financial frustration.

On Finance, he said;

Why is G-Worldwide afraid to grant Kiss Daniel unrestricted access to his account and books as provided by the contract? The whole relationship between a record label and an artist is about making money and sharing it. Finance and money is the crux of the matter. G-Worldwide did not sign Kiss Daniel because they love his face. They signed him because they think he can make money for them. And there is nothing wrong with that as long as they play by the rules. The only offence commented by Kiss Daniel was his effrontery/impudence by daring to ask his record label to render account! Kiss Daniel through his lawyer L & A – Legal Consultant appointed a firm of Chartered Accountant to inspect and audit G-Worldwide Entertainments books and account in respect of Kiss Daniel’s project as provided by the contract between the parties. Immediately the request was made, all hell was let loose. Why will a Record Label be afraid to allow their Artist to inspect their books of record? Especially, when the contract between the parties was drafted by the same record label and the contract contains a clause which specifically provided that the Record Label shall keep all accounts and shall allow the Artist or his representative unrestricted access to inspect and make copies of the records.

See clause 7 of the contract between the parties which provide;

“Company shall maintain proper accounting books and or records at its principal office, in relation to revenue generated, or expenditure expended in the course of the performance of this Agreement. Such books and or records shall include, but shall not be limited to, any documents or records which evidence the receipt and or disbursements of royalties and other monies generated in the course of the performance of the Agreement.

The Artist shall, at any time during the term of this Agreement and upon prior written notice to Company, Artist or his/her designated representative shall gain unrestricted access to inspect the books and records of the Company relating to this Agreement and shall be entitled to make copies thereof.”

According to Kiss Daniel’s lawyer, the artistes employed the service of an Auditing Firm to inspect and audit G-Worldwide’s account but unfortunately the firm was not given access to any document. This amount to “monkey dey work, Baboon dey chop” kind of situation as Kiss Daniel was denied free access to funds for years only to be paid stipends of N30,000 which was later increased to N50,000 monthly.

Contract or Slavery? This is the same label that forced Kiss Daniel to perform few days after his father’s death and while still in the village trying to give his father a befitting burial. They put money first. They insisted he must interrupt his father burial rites and must perform or they will crush him in the industry. This is the same Label that was paying Kiss Daniel only 30k and later 50k per month for about two years despite Kiss Daniel’s performing at several shows and making millions of naira for the label within the same period! Yet, Kiss Daniel never create any noise or scandal. How many Nigerian Artist can tolerate for so long what Kiss Daniel has endured without creating any scandal?

Is G-Worldwide A Record Label? What is the main characteristic of a record label? One of the main duty of a record label is to advance money to the artist for purposes of recording. Yet the so called record label does not pay advance and as never pay advance to Kiss Daniel.

The so called record label did not pay a penny (kobo) towards the recording of all songs in the alleged album, “Evolution”! The songs in the alleged album include already released hits like “sofa”, “Yeba” and several others. No payment of advance, no payment for studio sessions or productions generally and yet G-Worldwide are shamelessly laying claim to songs produced single-handedly by the Artist. He is indeed a patient dog. His Lawyer concluded.

From this statement by Kiss Daniel’s lawyer, Would You Say Kiss Daniel Has Been Into A Contract Or Slavery?

Chelsea’s £22million Bid For Bayer Leverkusen’s Leon Bailey Rejected

Featured Image

Chelsea have been rebuffed in a £22million move for Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey, according to the Daily Mail.

The Premier League champions see the 20-year-old as a possible replacement for Eden Hazard, the paper says, but Leverkusen will fight to keep the talented youngster.

Chelsea have been monitoring Bailey since he originally moved to Germany and consider him a potential successor to Eden Hazard.

Leon Bailey impressed Chelsea’s scouts last weekend when he starred for his side in a 2-0 win over Stuttgart.

The Jamaican set up both goals as he continued his fine form this season.

Bailey has scored five goals in all competitions this season and has added another four assists in those games.

Lagos Agrees With FG To Demolish Jibowu, Costain Bridges For Rail Line Construction

Featured Image

The Lagos State Government has agreed with the Federal Government to commence the pulling down of two bridges in the state, located at Jibowu and Costain, as part of efforts to address challenges facing the ongoing construction of a new Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge rail line.

This disclosure was made by the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, on Tuesday, who added that the worst challenges of the new rail project were located in Lagos State.

In November, Amaechi had announced the intention of the contractor, the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, to demolish the two bridges to give way to the new rail line.

Although the minister said new bridges would be immediately constructed, the Lagos State Government had then suggested digging further into the ground to accommodate the new rail track to be laid under the bridges.

However, the minister, who met with the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, said: “Yesterday (Monday), I was on a tour with the governor of Lagos State and we have agreed that the two bridges will come down.”

Amaechi further stated that the Federal Government had told the contractor to complete the rail project by December 2018 as against the March 31, 2019 initial completion date.

The minister disclosed these while inspecting the railway project from Lagos to Ogun states after a meeting of the Project Steering Committee.

He said, “We have a target date but there is no way you can do construction without challenges in different forms and you have to address them. The challenges are not even here (at the Ogun end of the project).

“The challenges are worse in Lagos. We are dealing with water, drainage, gas, power and the military. Here we are dealing with just gas and maybe a few power transmission lines and we can manage that.”

Removal Threat: Olubadan Replies 21 Ibadan Kings – “You’re End Of Year Entertainers”

Featured Image

The Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji, on Tuesday, replied the purported threat issued by the 21 new Ibadan kings to recommend him for removal, describing the decision as an affront to the people of Ibadan and an “end of the year entertainment programme.”

He stressed that the 21 Ibadan kings acted out of ignorance by threatening to recommend his (Olubadan) removal, adding that despite the level of education of the high chiefs-turned-kings, they seemed to have forgotten that there were cases in court challenging their elevation by Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State.

The 21 kings, who were an August 27, 2017 installed by Ajimobi, had on Monday gave 21-day ultimatum to the monarch to be of good conduct or risk being removed from the Olubadan throne.

However, in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Adeola Oloko, the front line monarch said that their action showed that they were feeling unsecure about their positions in the royal court after their ‘rush for multiple crowns and cheap royalties.’

The statement said, “The king has described the purported threat of the 21 new Ibadan kings to recommend him for removal as an affront to the people of Ibadan and end of the year entertainment programme.

“The frontline monarch, who stated that the so-called Oba-in-Council was unknown to the Oyo State Chieftaincy Laws, wondered how a group of educated individuals such as the embattled high chiefs could resort to illegality by commenting on a matter before the court.

“Oba Adetunji, who has pleaded with the court to take judicious notice of the persistent contempt of court on the matter before it by the defendants in recent times, is of the opinion that if a scapegoat is not made of at least one or two culprits, there may be no end to court contempt.”

While addressing the allegation raised by the kings against Olubadan’s unilateral decisions on key issues, the statement said that the Olubadan-in-Council was only an advisory council with no force of law, customs and traditions backing it.

The statement continued: “In the same vein, baales, whom the embattled high chiefs have added to themselves to become 21, are not members of the Olubadan-in-Council and therefore should not be dressed in a borrowed robe, as they have no power whatsoever over their lord.

“The prescribed and appointing authority can promote and or peg the promotion of an high chief as long as he wishes but he did not contemplate any such decision as he does not see himself as an absolute king.”

“Oba Adetunji contended further that there was no time that the embattled high chiefs were barred from attending palace activities, adding that they were the ones who spurned palace invitation in their desperate rush for multiple crowns and cheap royalty. Despite their absence from official palace activities, the Olubadan has been exercising his duties without let or hindrance.

“Even when they (the 21 kings) were being harassed and molested in the city and called unprintable names, he (Olubadan) has been trying his very best to calm down frayed nerves in order to guarantee their safety and security by going to court to diffuse tension.  Oba Adetunji stated that as the Yoruba proverb says that an okro plant can never outgrow its reaper, a high chief can’t outgrow the king by threatening to recommend him for removal.”

“By custom and tradition, no Olubadan has been recommended for removal from office by any high chief or group of high chiefs at any time and my own reign will not be an exception. At least, we have received applications from families of about four of the embattled high chiefs asking for their immediate replacement.

“But, like a prodigal son, we hope that they would sooner than later renounce the unrecognised crowns and return to the warm embrace of their father as the palace door is perpetually open. The high chiefs are hereby advised to emulate high chiefs in other places, who are not wearing crowns but still earn respect of their people for peace and progress to reign supreme in the land. The high chiefs should not exercise fears yet, as their seats would not be declared vacant in the absence of court verdict.”

2018 Budget: El-Rufai Signs N216bn In Kaduna

Featured Image

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has signed the N216.55 billion, 2018 budget passed by the State House of Assembly into law.

It is understood that the budget, which was signed by the governor at a ceremony at the Government House in Kaduna on Tuesday, is made up of N131.1 billion capital expenditure and N85.44 billion recurrent expenditure.

“We have deliberately tagged it as Budget of Consolidation, because it is the last full annual budget before the 2019 election,’’ he said.

He said the budget was designed “to complete many projects we have commenced in the service of our people”.

“As I said while presenting the budget, we have published a record number of tenders as we try to achieve the goals outlined in our manifesto, these tenders have led to the commencement of many projects across the state.

“We have looked at inherited projects that we considered feasible and viable, some of these have been completed, but others are at various stages of completion,’’ El Rufai said.

The State House of Assembly had passed the N216 billion budget into law with an increase of N100 million.

Tyson Fury Can Fight Again

Featured Image

Tyson Fury is free to step into a ring, as long as he regains his boxing license, after accepting a backdated two-year doping ban from UK Anti-Doping.

The ban ends come December 12, leaving Fury and his cousin Hughie able to get renewed licence.

A statement read: “UKAD, Tyson Fury and Hughie Fury have agreed to resolve the proceedings brought by UKAD (1) against Tyson Fury and Hughie Fury based on the reported presence of elevated levels of nandrolone metabolites in urine samples that they provided after their respective fights in February 2015; and (2) against Tyson Fury based on his alleged failure to provide a sample in September 2016.

“UKAD’s position is that the anti-doping rule violations it has asserted have been committed and the consequences set out in the UK Anti-Doping Rules should apply. Tyson and Hughie Fury’s position is that they have never knowingly or deliberately committed any anti-doping rule violation. ‎In recognition of the respective counter-arguments and the risks inherent in the dispute resolution process, each side has accepted a compromise of its position.

“Taking into account the delays in results management that meant charges were not brought in respect of the nandrolone findings until June 2016, and the provisional suspensions that Tyson and Hughie Fury have already effectively served, the two year period of ineligibility is backdated to 13 December 2015, and therefore expires at midnight on 12 December 2017.

“The British Boxing Board of Control has also agreed to the resolution of these proceedings on this basis.”

Fury said: “I’m a fighting man through and through and I’ve never backed down from anyone in my life and I was certainly not going to back down from fighting this dispute.

“Hughie and I have maintained our innocence from day one and we’re now happy that it has finally been settled with UKAD and that we can move forward knowing that we’ll not be labelled drug cheats. I can now put the nightmare of the last two years behind me.”

Naira Steadies As CBN Boosts Currency Market With $210Million

Featured Image

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Tuesday said it had injected 210 million dollars into the interbank foreign exchange market, extending efforts to boost liquidity and alleviate dollar shortages.

In a statement it issued yesterday, the country’s apex bank said it had released 100 million dollars earmarked for the wholesale market, 55 million dollars for small businesses and individuals, and 55 million dollars for certain dollar expenses such as school fees and medical bills.

According to figures obtained from the Bank, Tuesday’s interventions were for the Wholesale, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and invisibles segments of the market.

The Acting Director, Corporate Communications at the CBN, Mr. Isaac Okorafor disclosed that the Bank offered the sum of $100million to the wholesale segment, while the SMEs and invisibles segments each received the sum of $55 million.

He reiterated that the releases were meant to boost liquidity, trade and ease of remittances for legitimate personal commitments.

In spite of the stable rate of N360/$1 and the expected inflow from various sources such as the Eurobond and remittances from the Diaspora, Okorafor said the Bank would continue to intervene in the inter-bank forex market to guarantee liquidity.

While also noting that the interventions had largely checked unwholesome activities of currency speculators, he said that the CBN would not relent in its daily monitoring of activities in the market in order to ensure that all concerned operate in line with extant rules.

Meanwhile, the naira maintained its steady rate against major currencies around the globe, exchanging for N360/$1 in the BDC segment of the market on Tuesday, December 12, 2017.
