DPR: Six Petroleum Marketers Suspended In Akwa Ibom

Featured Image

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Eket field, on Sunday disclosed that it has suspended six marketers in Akwa Ibom for diverting petroleum products

The DRP Operations Controller in Akwa Ibom, Mr Tamunoiminabo Sundaye, said this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Eket.

Sundaye said that the marketers lifted 180,000 litres of petrol from NNPC Calabar depot to an unknown destination.

He said that when the department went to their various filling stations on a check, the products were not found in their tanks.

“We have sent letters to the PPMC depot Managers in Calabar and Port Harcourt to ensure that those stations were suspended until DPR gives clearance to them to operate again.

“It is disheartening that the same marketers that are complaining that private depots are not given them product at ex-depot price are now diverting products,’’ he said.

The operations controller also said that two other marketers were queried to give explanation on the whereabouts of the products they lifted.

“We are still working with the information that we have, and before long we will be done with those who lifted products from Port Harcourt,” he added.

Sundaye further warned other marketers to desist from sharp practices or face the wrath of the law.

Rooney: Man City Deserve To Celebrate Derby Win

Featured Image

Wayne Rooney says Manchester City must be allowed to celebrate in their dressing room, saying Burnley’s dressing room celebrations are extravagant.

City got their 16th win of the season, with a 4-1 thumping of Tottenham, but this contrasts to the 2-1 win over United.

There was a fracas in the tunnel after the win, with Mourinho complaining about the loud music playing from City’s dressing room.

“If you’ve played Burnley over the last few years, they must have a big music system because the noise coming out of their dressing room before and after games is incredible. It’s deafening,” Rooney explained.

“So, I think if City win the derby at Old Trafford, for me they’re entitled to celebrate because it’s a big game

“Do it in a respectful manner but I think playing music in your dressing room is fair enough.”

Rapid Thoughts On Hijab-Gate

Rapid Thoughts On Hijab-Gate, By Pius Adesanmi

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

It appears I am the only one who missed Hijab-gate! I am coming to it late but I have a few random observations.

(1) The Nigerian Body of Benchers has extant rules which the lady willingly submitted to but decided to flout at a critical moment. One’s opinion of their strict and weird colonial vestimentary rules is of no moment here. There is a place and time and manner of engaging them to move with the times. However, extant rules are extant rules.

This piece was written by Pius Adesanmi. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

(2) I see citizens plastering photos of Hijab-wearing women in police uniform and other professions all over Oyinbo land. It is increasingly common to see them here in Canada in the professions. What those splashing the photos will not tell you is that such concessions are usually made to female Muslim members of the professions after protracted negotiations by Muslim organisations and individuals – yes, activists too! – with the regulatory bodies of such professions. Take a look at the link below and see how the Federal police in Canada, the RCMP, came to adopt the Hijab as part of the dress code of willing female members of the corps. You don’t just show up at work as a female RCMP officer in Hijab, protesting the colonial origins of your uniform or whining that your current uniform is not in line with your religion. You show up in Hijab because it has now been approved after protracted diversity negotiations to change the uniform codes of the RCMP to accommodate your religion: http://www.cbc.ca/…/p…/rcmp-diversity-policy-hijab-1.3733829

(3) There are millions of Muslim lawyers and judges in Nigeria. Stop plastering decontextualised photos of Hijab-wearing women being called to the bar or in police uniforms in America and Canada without telling the story of the protracted diversity negotiations with the regulatory bodies of such professions which led to such outcomes in Canada and the US. Go and start your own diversity negotiations with the Nigerian Body of Benchers. Those of us who are tired of their nonsense colonialist hangovers, especially their funny wigs, may even benefit from your negotiations. They should spice things up, come into the 21st-century, stop wearing wigs, and stop speaking Latin all the time. Even the Catholic Church moved beyond Latin. A conversation between two Nigerian wig-wearing lawyers can sometimes sound like the disgruntled conversation of two Roman centurions who are being owed salaries by Julius Caesar.

Hijab Controversy: Nigerian Law Graduate Denied Call To Bar For Breaking Dress Code

(4) I support an expanded space of diversity in which our Muslim women would be able to wear the Hijab on the job in the legal profession after the amendment of the extant dress code. Go and negotiate with them. Stop blackmailing an association for her extant rules and stop encouraging the indiscipline of somebody who willingly flouted the extant rules after agreeing to them.

(5) Because this is about the female body and appearance, there is no surprise that patriarchy has had the lion share of the conversation. This has largely been a debate between Christian men supporting the body of benchers and Muslim men supporting the female Hijabi. I am another male Christian weighing in. To the male Christian experts on Hijab and Muslim practices, you have been involved in a vigorous debate with Muslims over what they consider a symbol or an aspect of their religion in the last 48 hours. You have been running your mouths freely and liberally. Some of you have even been questioning the rights of Muslims to consider the hijab a religious symbol, claiming it is just a cultural symbol etc. Tomorrow, when the debate shifts to the psychological and social consequences of tithing, you will carry cutlass and langalanga and invade the public sphere and attempt to shut down meaningful conversations with blackmail – touch not my anointed. We shall be waiting for your Christian asses here.

(6) To the Muslim men. I am happy about the ferocity with which you have marshaled your arguments in favour of the female Hijabi’s rights and freedom. This is a very good development: that you are canvassing so openly for her rights and freedom. If, tomorrow, she decides to exercise the same right and freedom you are defending so passionately today to look like another nice Muslim woman, Mrs. Aisha Ahmad, CBN Deputy Governor, I hope you will not change your tune about her individual right and freedom. If you do, we shall be waiting for your Muslim asses here.

Barcelona Not Distracted By El Clasico – Ernesto Valverde

Featured Image

Ernesto Valverde has insisted that Barcelona are fully focused on Sunday’s La Liga clash with Deportivo La Coruna rather than next weekend’s showdown with Real Madrid.

Madrid’s involvement in the Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi – which saw them retain the trophy with victory over Gremio this afternoon – means that Barca could move 11 points clear of their bitter rivals with victory over Deportivo ahead of the first La Liga El Clasico of the season.

Should Barca then pick up another win at the Bernabeu it could all but end Madrid’s title defence, but Valverde stressed that he is not looking beyond the next game.

“What we’re thinking about doing is winning our game tomorrow. There’s no point worrying about next week’s game before thinking about tomorrow’s game,” he told reporters.

“I don’t think that (Real match) has affected the players, they are concerned about tomorrow. So no, but no means whatsoever are we distracted by the Clasico.”

Liverpool To Allow Daniel Sturridge Leave On Loan

Featured Image

Daniel Sturridge has been told by Jurgen Klopp that he is free to leave Anfield on loan in January in order to aid his chances of inclusion in Gareth Southgate’s Wold Cup squad, according to the Sun on Sunday.

Daniel Sturridge has struggled to hold down a regular place in the Reds’ line-up this term since the arrival of Mo Salah, and has managed only two goals in the Premier League.

The report goes on to claim that the former Chelsea and Manchester City striker could now look at a loan move in the second half of the season, with the Reds looking to get his £125,000-a-week wages covered.

AC Milan, Valencia and Real Betis are credited with having the Englishman on their radar.

I’d Like To Retire At Real Madrid – Cristiano Ronaldo

Featured Image

Cristiano Ronaldo says he would like to retire at Real Madrid, following Saturday’s 1-0 win in the Club World Cup final win against Gremio in Abu Dhabi.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner said: “If possible yes, I’d like that. But it does not depend on me. What I do on the pitch is up to me. I’m not in charge of the club, it is the people at the top who are. I do my work on the pitch. If possible, then I would like to, we’ll see”.

Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane also expressed his belief that the Portuguese should hang up his boots in the Spanish capital.

“Would I like Cristiano to sign a new contract? Of course, as soon as possible. It’s crucial for us that he stays here right until the end of his career. He’s here at his club, and his home. Nobody is going to repeat what he’s been able to achieve and what he is still achieving. I hope he stays here until he retires,” said the Frenchman.

Simeone: Substitutes Made The Difference For Atletico

Featured Image

Diego Simeone has hailed the impact of the substitutes for Atletico in the 1-0 win over Alaves.

Fernando Torres was the hero for Atletico in a tough encounter against Alaves, coming off the bench to score the only goal.

Correa came on and gave Atletico more attacking impetus, and the winner came after the introduction of Carrasco and Torres.

“The team improved with the changes,” said Simeone. “It is important to have the group as it is. The guys who are not playing have done very well and have shown it.

“We have room for improvement. People want to keep growing and that is good as a team. What has happened is left behind.

“We are pleased with the squad because it was important. We’re now working for the games ahead, which will be as difficult as today.”

Klopp: Salah Needs No Rest

Featured Image

Liverpool gaffer, Jurgen Klopp believes he has no reasons to relegate Mohamed Salah to the bench in need of rest, due to the natural fitness he has.

Klopp has been known to rotate his stars and has done that on numerous occasions this season, but has had no course to bench Salah.

The Egypt international attacker has already scored 19 goals in 25 games for Liverpool.

“It is true he starts often. But it is difficult to think about leaving him out,” he said.

“He is always a naturally fit player. We talk a lot to the medical department and it is really rare that there are any issues with him.

“You don’t hear that he’s had a problem here or a problem there, that’s a big thing. We and Mo have been lucky so far that there is nothing around him with injuries.”

Pellegrino Has No Control Over Van Dijk Situation

Featured Image

Southampton manager, Mauricio Pellegrino has admitted that Virgil Van Dijk could leave the club and he has zero control over the situation.

Van Dijk has made only 12 appearances for Southampton this season, after his failed exit in the off season.

The Netherlands international defender also missed the 1-0 loss to Chelsea and is being courted by top PL clubs.

Pellegrino, whose team were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea on Saturday, admitted Van Dijk could be set for an exit.

“I can’t control the market,” he said.

“I’m not the owner of the player. I can have my opinion and this I have given to the technical director, to the chairman.

“After, the board can decide all together which is the best for the team.

“But I repeat that I can’t control the market right now. I will recommend to try to keep our best player here at the club. The club was clear about it in the beginning and I have the same opinion.”
