Enzo Zidane Joins Swiss Club Lausanne

Featured Image

Alaves have confirmed that Zinedine Zidane’s son Enzo Zidane has left the club and moved to Swiss outfit Lausanne.

Enzo Zidane, who moved to Alaves from Real Madrid last summer, departs the La Liga club having managed only 155 minutes of first-team action this season.

FC Lausanne sit at a meagre fifth place in the Swiss league, a league that only consist of ten teams.

It will surely be the Frenchman’s hope that this move to a lesser quality league will allow his quality to show through and earn him a move back into Europe’s top leagues.

After a promising start to his career, making his Real Madrid debut last season, Zidane will need to impress if he is to regain his prior value.

JAMB Fixes January For Mock Exams, Urges Candidates To Register On Time

Featured Image

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said that it will conduct its optional mock examination in January, preparatory to its main test later in the year.

The board made this disclosure in a statement signed by Fabian Benjamin, its head of media, on Sunday in Abuja.

The board also reiterated the need for candidates to register on time and ensure that they follow due process in order to avoid avoidable challenges.

“As we prepare for the 2018 examinations, beginning with the optional mock, we urge candidates to register on time, make clear their choices of institutions, disciplines and examination centres in the process,” the statement read.

“Candidates must note that their first choice can be a College of Education, a university, an Innovation Enterprise Institution, a polytechnic or a monotechnic.

“Others include, the Nigerian Defence Academy or the Police Academy. We will conduct a better examination, ensure more transparent admission and make more remittances to the government.”

The board, which described 2017 as year of transformation to success with the support of stakeholders, added that 2017 was its most eventful year so far.

“In 2017, the board conducted one of the most transparent, inclusive and acceptable examinations with the least incidence of malpractices.

“We invested significantly in the development of intellectual structures, examination infrastructure and human human resources.

“This will propel more development in 2018 and put the board in the position to compete favourably with any public institution; globally, be it an examination body or service agency.

The board also noted that while it had opened its “entire functionality to public participation and scrutiny”, it had been able to adopt some of the suggestions made by the public, which it said, had helped “to build the new JAMB”.

NCC Extends Deadline For Sale Of 9Mobile To January 16

Featured Image

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced the extension of the deadline for the sale process of 9mobile by 16 days.

Literally, it means that the sale process of 9mobile will now be concluded on January 16, 2018 as against the previous deadline of December 31, 2017.

Etisalat Nigeria Formally Announces 9Mobile As New Brand Name, Unveils New Logo

It is understood that the previous deadline, which is today, could not be met, and this has necessitated a request for extension by the board of directors of Emerging Markets Telecoms Services Ltd, owners of the 9mobile licence.

In a letter to the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, sighted by TheCable, Umar Danbatta, executive vice chairman of NCC, acknowledged the risk posed by the year-end deadline for submission of binding offers by prospective bidders for the purchase of 9mobile.

He wrote: “The Commission is in receipt of a letter dated 29th November 2017 by which the Board of Directors of Emerging Markets Telecoms Services Ltd. (9Mobile) requested for an extension of the deadline for the submission of binding offers by prospective bidders from 31st December 2017 to 16th of January 2018.

“Having carefully considered the reasons given for the proposed extension in the letter under reference, the Commission confirms that it has no objection to the request and that the extension can be communicated to the Company.

“We thank you for your kind consideration.”

9mobile, which was formerly Etisalat, rebranded after its major owners in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, pulled out and a new board was inaugurated to run its affairs.

This was after failed negotiation with its lenders over a missed payment of the $1.2billion loan taken from a consortium of 13 Nigerian banks in 2013.

9mobile is being prepared for sale by Barclays Africa.

Five bidders have made the final list of potential buyers: Teleology Holdings Limited, promoted by Adrian Wood, the pioneer CEO of MTN Nigeria; Smile Telecoms Holdings, a telco operating in Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, Congo DR and South Africa; and Helios Investment Partners LLP, an investment company.

Others are Bharti Airtel, an Indian telco that owns Airtel Nigeria, and Globacom, the Nigerian company owned by Mike Adenuga Jnr.

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has said that five persons died and 13 others injured in an accident that occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Sunday.

Clement Oladele, Ogun Sector Commander of FRSC, told the News Agency of Nigeria in an interview in Ota, Ogun State, that the accident occurred at Wazobia, at about 9.00 a.m.

Mr. Oladele said that two vehicles and eighteen persons were involved in the accident that resulted in the death of five persons while 13 others sustained various degrees of injuries.

The sector commander explained that a commercial bus with registration number MGD 129 ZF coming from Ibadan to Lagos, lost control and veered off the road and collided with a trailer with registration number DDA 121 XA that was parked by the road side.

“The corpses of the victims had been deposited at the mortuary in Ipara General Hospital, while the survivors are also receiving treatment at Sagamu and Victory Hospital, Ogere,’’ he said.

Mr. Oladele said that the driver of the commercial bus absconded immediately after the accident occurred.

Kaduna Refinery Loses N14.4bn After 4 Months Of Idleness

Featured Image

One of the Nigerian government-owned refineries, Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC), has failed to process any crude oil from June to September this year; thus making a loss of N14.43bn within the period.

According to the latest financial and operations report of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), which was monitored by The Punch Newspaper on Friday, the three government-owned refineries lost a total of N16.67bn in the third quarter of this year.

The nation’s refineries are the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC), Port Harcourt Refining Company (PRC), and the KRPC.

In the report, it is understood that the Kaduna refinery lost N3.46bn in June, N3.6bn in July, N3.59bn in August and N3.78bn in September.

The NNPC data also showed that the Port Harcourt refinery, which was idle in August, made a loss of N1.05bn in the third quarter while the WRPC recorded a deficit of N4.65bn in the period as it was shut down in September.

The PHRC processed 115,441 metric tonnes of crude oil in September, translating to combined yield efficiency of 78.09 per cent compared to 178,788MT of crude processed in August, which translated to combined yield efficiency of 83.36 per cent.

The three refineries produced 137,984MT of finished petroleum products out of 115,441MT of crude processed at combined capacity utilisation of 6.14 per cent, compared to 9.50 per cent combined capacity utilisation achieved in August.

“The deprived operational performance is attributed to the KRPC and the WRPC downtime during the month under review. The ongoing revamping of the refineries will enhance capacity utilisation once completed,” the NNPC said.

It also showed that the production of petroleum products (petrol and kerosene only) by the refineries amounted to 87.47 million litres in September, compared to 78.44 million litres in August.

The corporation said it had been adopting a Merchant Plant Refineries Business Model since January this year.

According to the NNPC, the model takes cognisance of the products’ worth and crude costs.

The corporation said the combined value of output by the three refineries (at import parity price) for September amounted to N18.41bn while the associated crude plus freight costs and operational expenses were given as N13.31bn and N8.62bn, respectively.

“This resulted in an operating deficit of N3.52bn by the refineries. Also, during the period under review, the refineries’ combined capacity utilisation was 6.14 per cent with only the PHRC which operated at capacity utilisation of 13 per cent,” the corporation said.

According to the report, the national oil firm recorded in September a trade deficit of N2.81bn, down from the previous month’s deficit of N5.74bn.

“This represents 51.06 per cent or N2.93bn improvement compared to the last month’s performance. This improved performance is mainly due to revamping of Forcados export terminal which enhances the NPDC’s performance as well as slight improved performance of the downstream value chain, especially the PPMC despite high crude oil inventory and the shutdowns of the KRPC and the WRPC during the period as a result of several maintenance interventions,” it said.

“Call Your Entire Team To Order” – N6 Warns M.I After Physical Clash At Palm Wine Music Festival

Featured Image

Emerging reports have confirmed that the beef between M.I Abaga and Cool FM OAP and Rapper, N6 has taken a violent turn as the Chocolate City Crew together with N6 and crew fought dirty at the just concluded Palm Wine Music Festival.

While narrating his own side of the story through series of tweets, N6 said M.I started the whole fight by throwing jabs at him during his performance and after the performance the Choc city boss searched for him through the crowd with violent intentions.

He further explained how he was confronted by DJ Lambo and other “crew of females” but denied the accusation that he had hit one them saying that his target was Loose Kaynon.
N6 however mentioned that M.I’s manager, Abuchi attempted to punch him before Loose Kaynon got involved, by leeting the hell loose. He also narrated how the efforts of MTV Base VJ, Ehiz, and OAP, Jimmie, helped a great deal in controlling the situation from becoming more violent that it was.

In his concluding statements, N6 called on Chocolate City Boss, M.I Abaga to call his team to order adding that he will no longer tolerate any more attacks on his character.

Tears Of 2017: Between TSTV And P-Square

Tears Of 2017: Between TSTV And P-Square – Onoshe Nwabuikwu

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

It’s the last day of 2017 and I can’t help but look back at some issues and news that ruled the airwaves. Take your pick from any of the issues that dominated the news.  The year began with the Big Brother Naija competition which was held in Johannesburg. For a minute, the debate about that took all our attention. And there was the second season of The Voice Nigeria in South Africa, also.

This piece was written by Onoshe Nwabuikwu and was first published on The Punch Newspaper. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

I suppose with this background, it’s easy to understand the concern of the Honourable Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, when he moved to stop the production of Nigerian movies and musical videos outside Nigeria. For those movies to pass as Nigerian content, they have to be produced in the country. In the minister’s words “This government has agreed that henceforth, whatever we consume in Nigeria in terms of music and films, must be made in Nigeria. “We cannot continue to go to South Africa or any other country to produce our films and then send them back to be consumed in Nigeria. As long as we are not able to implement our own code to ensure local production of Nigerian music and movies, our young talents will not get jobs.”

At the time of this patriotic push, there was just the little matter of President Buhari being away in the UK for medical treatment for about 70 days, plus or minus. And if we borrow the minister’s very sound argument, the president going to another country and staying there for all of 103 days will not help “our young talents” (in this case, doctors), “get jobs.” To echo his sentiments: We cannot continue to go to (the UK and Germany or) any other country if we want our medical sector to improve, not so? Does this have anything to do with the current – rush of our medical doctors to leave Nigeria? Who knows?

At some point too in 2017, the NBC (National Broadcasting Commission) began its drive to curb hate speech. Needless to say, there were some underlying contradictions or should I say hypocrisy there because what was formerly justified as opposition and ‘fighting corruption’was now being given a new toga of hate speech.

Perhaps the most worrying issue was the almost dead on arrival satellite TV provider, TSTV. With the benefit of hindsight, it is easy to see where government was coming from by granting TSTV a three-year tax rebate. I mean, this is the ‘wholly Nigerian’ company that was going to challenge the monopoly of the ‘foreign’ DSTV. Now, if you didn’t see this column on that issue, Sunday Punch of Sunday October 8, 2017, is one you have to read. Even if I had the space or time, I’m not sure I can say it better.

Suffice to say that the ill-advised government backing of TSTV showed again that with just a little due diligence, as little as checking TSTV’s website, could have helped the NBC and the information ministry take better decisions. The decision in this case being to protect the Nigerian viewer from what could potentially turn ‘tears TV’. Of course, this is assuming that government really cares about Nigerian viewers losing their money. The current fuel shows tells government’s uncaring attitude better. The cynical but ultimately unintelligent PR push of ‘punishing hoarders of petrol’, notwithstanding.

  • From P-Square to No Square

Just in case you haven’t heard, we should dispense with the old news that award-winning music group, P-Square, has finally broken up. Whether they can come back together is not the issue here. The Okoye twins-Peter and Paul, had tried what appears now to have been a trial separation earlier but came back after many well-meaning people stepped in. However, sometime in 2017, it became official that P-Square is no more. We now have Rude Boy (Paul Okoye) and Mr. P (Peter Okoye).

Both brothers have new material out. The curiously named Rude Boy (being the more reserved of the twins) has a couple of songs ruling the airwaves: Fire Fire (which I searched for as Halleluyah because that’s what had stuck in my mind), and Nkeji, Mr. P who I’d have pegged as Rude Boy being the more extroverted of the twins, has Cool It, and For My Head, enjoying airplay.

Peter appears to be trying out his own sound, while Paul sounds like he wants to continue with the P-Square sound. If you believe the rumours you can understand why he would do so, having considered himself the singing part of P-Square. But continuing with the familiar sound of P-Square has its own risks. On one hand, there are those who’ll find comfort in still being able to listen to a P-Square-ish sound. In this case, Half-Square is better than No-Square. But then, there are those who’ll find it all so painful and not want to be reminded of their loss each time a Rude Boy/P-Sqaure-ish sound comes on.

It’s all so sad. As a P-Square fan, I’m not happy. This break up means fans may be forced to choose between the two brothers.

Anyway, I wish you all a Happy 2018!

Presidency Defends Buhari’s Controversial Board Appointments – “List Was Compiled In 2015”

Featured Image

The Presidency on Saturday said there was nothing “scandalous or extraordinary” in the inclusion of the names of some dead persons in the list of appointments into boards of some agencies released by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on Friday.

According to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the list had been prepared over two years ago and nobody could stop some of those included on the list from dying between then and now.

PDP Reacts To Buhari’s Controversial Board Appointments Which Include “Dead People”

Shehu said this in reaction to the outcry over the inclusion of at least four dead persons in the list of appointees.

Buhari Appoints 209 Chairmen, 1,258 Board Members For Govt Agencies (See Full List)

He, however, said the list dates back to 2015 when Buhari asked the state chapters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to forward names for appointments.

His words: “There is nothing scandalous or extraordinary about what has happened.”

“This list is a historical list. It dates back to 2015. The President asked all state chapters of the APC to forward 50 names for appointments to the SGF through the national headquarters of the party.

“The then SGF, Babachir Lawal, presented the report in October 2016, one year after he was commissioned.

“The report was disputed by state governors who said they were not carried along or the list was not representative enough.

“So, the President constituted a new panel chaired by the Vice President. The panel has some governors and some leaders of the party as members. They were asked to go and review the list.

“The panel did its work and turned in its report early in 2017. The President had his health challenges during that period.

“Now that he is back and strong, he asked the SGF to go and release the list. So the new SGF did what he was asked to do.”

Guardiola On Last Season: We Missed Something

Featured Image

Pep Guardiola has admitted he missed something at Manchester City last season, especially not playing Fabian Delph in left back.

A win against Crystal Palace will mean City have won 19 straight games, and will open a 16-point gap over Chelsea.

Last season was a different story entirely for Guardiola, who failed to win a trophy and had to fight for a top four finish.

The Spaniard spent over £200 million in the transfer window, but only Ederson and Walker have become regulars.

Guardiola has gone on to dominate the EPL with the same squad that struggled last season, with Sterling impressing with his goalscoring prowess impressing and Delph slotting in perfectly at fullback in the absence of marquee signing, Benjamin Mendy.

“Now when I speak with my staff I say that, in the end, we are playing with nine players from last season. So, we did something not good last season,” he said. “We missed something.

“We didn’t change seven or eight players. I think the new players give energy, with the way they are in the locker room. New faces always help teams.

“But last season I missed something, when nine players who normally play are the same and the players in midfield and up front are the same.

“Something happened. Of course, they know us better and we know them better. Sometimes you need more time to adjust.”

“Last season, for example, I never thought to play Fabian Delph at full-back,” Guardiola reflected, before mocking some of the lavish praise recently sent his way.

“‘Oh, the brilliant Pep, how talented he is…’. Why didn’t I do that last season?

“Sometimes you need more time to see things. Now Mendy isn’t there. Fabian is there, he is able, he is smart, he is a midfield player.

“He gives us character. He is a real leader in the locker room, Fabian Delph. That’s why I always give credit to the players for what they do.”

Alexis Sanchez Future Is Not My Problem- Arsene Wenger

Featured Image

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is unable to predict where Alexis Sanchez will play his football next year

Alexis Sanchez is free to open discussions with clubs from Monday over a free summer transfer, having allowed his existing terms to expire.

Manchester City are the favourites to swoop for the Chile international at the end of the season, with Arsenal understood to be reluctant to offload midway through the campaign for a fee in excess of £20m.

As talk regarding Sanchez’s future continues to rumble on, Wenger has suggested that he no longer cares where his star man ends up next.

“I don’t know what is going on in his head and whether he is with us short term or long term. I am not a psychologist,” he told reporters.

“From Monday he is free to go where he wants if it’s a foreign club – but that’s not my problem. My problem is just about trying to win the game at West Brom.”

Gianluigi Donnarumma Very Happy At AC Milan

Featured Image

Gianluigi Donnarumma has dismissed talk he has been pushing for a move away from AC Milan as he marked his 100th appearance for the Serie A club against Fiorentina on Saturday.

The 18-year-old goalkeeper returned from injury to make several key saves as Milan earned a valuable point in a 1-1 draw in Tuscany.

“I have a four-year contract and I am happy here,” he said after the game. “I am proud to have reached 100 appearances in the Red and Black. I want to thank everyone: the people at Milanello (training ground), the staff and my team-mates.”

Donnarumma had earned the wrath of Milan fans after reports he was pushing to have his contract cancelled amid claims he was pressured to sign a renewal worth six million euros ($7.1m) a year last summer.

Donnarumma was injured for Wednesday’s 1-0 Italian Cup quarter-final derby win over Inter in which his older brother Antonio made his senior Milan debut.

The 27-year-old Antonio had been branded a “parasite” after joining the club on a reported one million euros a year as part of the negotiations for Gianluigi’s renewal.

“I am very proud of Antonio. We always work hard with goalkeeping coach (Alfredo) Magni. He did really well to be ready when he was called to play in the derby and his performance was brilliant”.

Allegri: Neymar And Dybala Will Take Over From Messi And Ronaldo

Featured Image

Massimiliano Allegri has not handed Dybala a spot in the starting XI for a couple of matches, but believes the Argentine and Neymar are the next big thing after Messi and Ronaldo.

Allegri started Dybala against Verona, his first start in four matches and he proved to be the hero, scoring a brace,  and a stunning solo goal as Juventus won 3-1.

The 24-year-old has had a consistency problem this season and the gaffer feels comparison to Messi has affected him, but he found himself comparing Dybala to him, after a stunning performance against Verona.

“It was important for him to score again and after that first goal, he seemed much more relaxed,” Allegri told Premium Sport.
