Klopp: Coutinho Insisted On Leaving

Featured Image

Jurgen Klopp has revealed that there was no convincing Philippe Coutinho to remain at Liverpool, as he was intent on leaving for Camp Nou.

The move to Barcelona was completed today, with the La Liga giants paying a fee of €160 million for his signature and tying him down till 2023, with his release clause set at €400 million.

Liverpool rebuffed offer after offer for the 25-year-old in the summer, and held on to him despite handing in a transfer request, in an attempt to force a move.

Klopp said the club tried everything possible to keep him, handing him a new contract with increased wage and incentives. However, Coutinho insisted on leaving and informed his teammates of his desire,

“It is with great reluctance that we – as a team and club – prepare to say farewell to a good friend, a wonderful person and a fantastic player in Philippe Coutinho,” he told the Liverpool’s official website.

“It is no secret that Philippe has wanted this move to happen since July, when Barcelona first made their interest known.

“Philippe was insistent with me, the owners and even his team-mates this was a move he was desperate to make happen.

“Despite that, we managed to keep the player here beyond the summer window, hoping that we would be able to persuade him to stay and be part of what we are looking to do.

“I can tell the Liverpool supporters that we, as a club, have done everything within our means to convince Philippe that remaining part of LFC was as attractive as moving to Spain, but he is 100 per cent certain his future – and that of his family – belongs at Barcelona.

“It is his dream and I am now convinced there is nothing left at our disposal to change his mind.”

“Philippe has made a fantastic contribution to this club over his five years of service and as disappointed as we are he doesn’t want to extend that, the relationship we have for him means with a heavy heart we wish him well,” added the German.

“The player remained dedicated and committed to helping us win matches, producing good performances and training hard each day at Melwood after the summer window had closed, despite failing to convince us to allow him to leave during that period and that level of professionalism reflects positively on him.”

Herrera Backs Lingard To Keep Improving

Featured Image

Ander Herrera has heaped praise on the in-form Jesse Lingard, and expects him to get even better.

The England international has impressed in his past few games for United, scoring a sublime goal against Derby to take his tally to 11 goals, matching his previous tally across 83 appearances.

Lingard has forced himself into Mourinho’s plans and Herrera has backed him to improve.

“His goal was amazing. It was incredible. I have already said it but he never gives up,” the Spaniard told reporters of his Old Trafford team-mate following another star showing against Derby.

“His movement is good and he shoots very well with both feet and when you keep trying and are optimistic with yourself, and you try and try and try, sooner or later you get the result and the result was another fantastic goal.

“His movement is also important. He’s very quick as well and no-one can touch him.

“He wants to improve and become a better player and you can see that in every training session. He’s showing that in games too. He is in fantastic form and can get better.”

Allegri: Dybala Cannot Play No. 9 For A Big Club

Featured Image

Massimiliano Allegri has stated that his charge, Paulo Dybala cannot play centre forward for a big club. And intend to hold on to him.

The Argentina international had a fine start to the season and attracted interest from United and Barcelona.

Dybala has been compared with Messi, but a switch to Barcelona and Old Trafford has not materialised

The 24-year-old has suffered a dip in form since then, and a sour relationship with Allegri does not seem to get better, with the Italian questioning his ability to lead the line for a big club.

Allegri told reporters of the South American’s role: “He cannot play centre-forward for a big club, where the distance to goal is much shorter.

“Just look at his best goals for Juve, they’re often when he’s running from deeper positions.”

Conte On Barkley: He Has Great Potential

Featured Image

Antonio Conte is quite pleased with the acquisition of Ross Barkley from Everton, hailing the midfielder as one with great potential.

The England international joined the Blues for £15 million on a five-and-a-half year contract, after failing to make a switch in the summer due to hamstring injury.

Barkley has been handed Frank Lampard’s no. 8 jersey at Chelsea, and Conte believes he has the potential.

“We are talking about a player with great potential,” Conte said at Cobham Training Centre. “He is a complete player but at the same time he is very young and he has just started his career.

“He has this great opportunity to play in a great club, with ambition and great targets, and also to put yourself in this new challenge. [He’s a] complete because he has it all. He has stamina, strong physically, good technique and he is a complete player.

“He is a modern footballer. I have to still see him and then we have the opportunity to work together and understand how much time he needs [until he makes his debut].”

“The most important thing is these players must be good [not just English]. Then, for sure, when I was in Italy we had a great base of Italian players. I think that this could be positive because English players understand this league because they grow up in this league.

“For Chelsea also it would be positive to buy English players because we lost important players like John Terry, Frank Lampard from this club, this country. This could be positive.”
