Naby Keita Will Not Join Liverpool In January- RB Leipzig Coach

Featured Image

RB Leipzig coach Ralph Hasenhuttl has played down suggestions midfielder Naby Keita could join Liverpool this month.

A deal has already been agreed to take Naby Keita to Anfield in the summer, but recent reports have claimed Liverpool are keen to bring the move forward following the £146m sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona.

“The current situation is that nothing changed. We do not have a reason to sell Keita any time before the end of the season. That’s it,” Hasenhuttl said.

“He will play at the weekend against Schalke 04 and hopefully he does well. That’s the only thing I really care about.”

There is no indication as yet whether Liverpool, with money to spend, will continue to push for a January deal, or whether there remains any chance of a solution.

They have also been linked with moves for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar and Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez.

Arsenal Keen To Discuss Possibility Of Signing Malcom With Bordeaux

Arsenal have scheduled a meeting with Bordeaux to discuss a potential deal for Malcom, Sky in Italy are reporting.

The 20-year-old, who is also wanted by Tottenham, has emerged as an option to potentially replace Alexis Sanchez should he leave the Emirates.

Bordeaux are believed to value Malcom at over £40m, and he is also reportedly of interest to Bayern Munich and Manchester United.

Valencia Confirm £12m Signing Of Francis Coquelin From Arsenal

Featured Image

Valencia have confirmed the signing of Francis Coquelin from Arsenal on a contract until 2022.

Francis Coquelin, 26, arrived at Arsenal from French side Laval in 2008 and went on to make 160 first-team appearances.

The combative midfielder spent several loan spells away from the Gunners before establishing himself as an integral part of a Arsene Wenger side which won the FA Cup in both 2015 and 2017.

His deal at the Mestalla runs until the end of June 2022 and contains a buy-out clause of 80 million euros (£71million), Valencia revealed on their official website.
The Frenchman is reported to have cost Marcelino’s Los Che – currently third in LaLiga – £12million after making only seven Premier League starts for the Gunners this season.

After completing his transfer to Valencia, Francis Coquelin said

“I have seen the team, they are going along very well, they are third in the table. I have watched their recent games, since I knew that the negotiations between the two clubs were picking up, such as the Copa del Rey game versus Las Palmas. They were very good. I believe that the players are doing a great job. Obviously, I am here to help the team and to help them hit their targets.”

Coquelin considers himself to be “a very passionate player, I always give everything, I hope that you will all see that soon, but I will always give my best,” he said.

4 Nigerians Hospitalised, Shops Burnt In Renewed Attacks In South Africa (Video)

The Nigerian Community in South Africa has disclosed that four of its members are in critical condition in the hospital while some shops have been burnt in renewed attacks by South Africans.

Mr Paul Nwanedo, chairman, Nigerian Union, North West Province chapter told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the telephone from Rustenburg that the attacks against Nigerians began on Sunday.

He said that taxi drivers in Rustenburg alleged that a Nigerian abducted and raped a 16-year-old South African girl and also alleged that Nigerians sold drugs to a local gang that attacked their members.

“This is absolutely untrue. We have investigated and found out that the allegations are false. The union is worried about the safety of our members in Rustenburg,” he said.

Nwanedo said that four Nigerians caught by the taxi drivers were beaten and are in critical condition in the hospital while some shops belonging to Nigerians had been torched.

“As I speak to you, we are afraid because the attacks have continued and our members are still in hiding.

“We have reported to the police and our national secretariat. We want the safety of lives and property of our people,” he said.

Mr Adetola Olubajo, President of the union, said that the national secretariat had been informed about the incident at Rustenburg.

“Investigation by the union shows that no Nigerians abducted or raped a South African girl. Indeed, no Nigerian has been arrested for the offence and we are worried about the turn of events.

“The lives and property of our citizens in Rustenburg are in danger and there is an urgent need for intervention. We appeal to our mission and Federal government to intervene urgently and save the situation,” Olubajo said.

Spokesman of the police in Rustenburg, Brig-Gen. Sabata Mokgwabone said the reasons for the violent protest was unclear but confirmed that “ the burnt houses are those occupied by foreign nationals,”

NAN reports that the North West Provincial Commissioner of Police, Lt.-Gen. Baile Motswenyane called on the public to work with law enforcement officials.

“Those who are doing this must know that they are committing a crime and drastic action will be taken, including against our own members who are involved in criminal activities,” he said.

“If You Have Juju, Use It On Them (Herdsmen), Protect Your People” – Fayose Tells Ekiti Hunters

Featured Image

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has charged hunters in the state to defend the people against any unforeseen invasion by herdsmen, adding that “If you have juju, use it. Make them (herdsmen) sleep off. Anything you have, use it. Make sure your people are not killed.”

The governor said this during an emergency security summit he had with hunters from the 16 local government areas of the state on Wednesday, January 10, 2018.

Clad in military attire, the governor declared that he dressed in that manner so to charge the hunters to protect the state, thus setting up a 24-hour surveillance of the state to prevent attacks by herdsmen.

His pro-active approach follows the recent massacre by herdsmen of over 70 people in Benue State amid widespread condemnation of Federal Government’s poor handling of the incident.

He said, “I am sympathising with our brothers and sisters from Benue State who are mourning the killing of their people. We are going to observe a minute silence for the dead. I saw pictures of the killings and wondered if the killers were human beings. They cut people’s necks, arms, and they want to wipe away a race and a people who are farmers. The killers will not know peace.”

“The Federal Government must protect Nigerians and we are not protected and it is the duty of the government to do so. They killed first, second and third time and nothing was done to curtail their activities. It is unfortunate that Governor Samuel Ortom went seeking help where there is none. Those he is seeking help from in Abuja can’t help themselves. We have never had it so bad. People must come to leadership with conscience. They ought to send army there but sent police who were being killed.”

Nigerian Guardian quoted him as telling the hunter-delegates that:

“Tell them Ekiti is a no-go area. My state is a no-go area. Those who want to make Ekiti ungovernable are wasting their time. Don’t kill anybody but defend your towns. Keep vigil on Ekiti. Don’t sleep again. Arise and fight for our people. How can the life of a cow be worth more than the life of men? My hunters! Go and represent me well. If you have juju, use it. Make them (herdsmen) sleep off. Anything you have, use it. Make sure your people are not killed.”

Fayose described his battle uniform as “a mark of leadership and solidarity with our hunters and vigilantes.” He noted: “I am a man that believes that his people must be protected. I therefore want you all to protect our people. Go and protect your domain. Make sure everybody entering our state on a daily basis is screened.”

He urged President Muhammadu Buhari to brand the “mindless and devilish” cattlemen as terrorists and observed a moment’s silence for the victims of the Benue tragedy.

Swansea Have Lost Their Identity- Jonjo Shelvey

Featured Image

Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey believes that former club Swansea City have lost their identity in recent years.

Since Michael Laudrup left the Liberty Stadium in February 2014, Swansea have parted company with four permanent managers, with Carlos Carvalhal recently being brought in as a replacement for Paul Clement.

Between July 2013 and January 2016, Shelvey made 98 appearances for the Swans but the England international feels that the Welsh side have struggled for consistency due to the frequent alterations in the dugout.

The 25-year-old told NUFC TV: “They have chopped and changed the managers to be fair and I don’t think that has helped them. I think they need to get back playing the way they played football.

“Even when I was at Liverpool you wouldn’t see the ball for a lot of the time. When I went there everything was about ball possession, all of our work was about the football and we were battering teams at home with the ball – even against the top teams.

“They have gone away from that a little bit which is obviously down to whatever manager they had in at the time.”

Liverpool Want Roberto Firmino To Sign ‘Life Contract’

Featured Image

Liverpool hope Roberto Firmino will sign a new contract that will keep him at the club for the rest of his career, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Firmino still has two years left on his current deal, but will apparently be offered the chance to sign a new deal.

The newspaper claims that the club will use the cash from Coutinho’s sale not only to strengthen with new recruits but also to offer improved financial terms for its existing top stars.

It is reported negotiations have not yet formally started but soon will.

Under Klopp, Roberto Firmino has been especially effective as the No 9. This year he has 16 goals already, second only to Salah.

Firmino did have a particular good relationship with Coutinho on and off the park, however. Coutinho was best man at Firmino’s wedding last summer.

“Liverpool is no longer the same without you my magical brother,” Firmino wrote on social media following his friend’s departure to the Nou Camp.

“I wish you infinite success, that you enjoy life and realise all your dreams brother. God is always protecting you and your whole family. It was an honour to play with a magician like you.

Does Trump Want To Oppose Buhari’s Reelection?

Does Trump Want To Oppose Buhari’s Reelection? – Odilim Enwegbara

Americans have always been known to, in order to protect their various hegemonic interests around the world, do everything to influence elections in other countries. In most cases, they have no difficulty having their way. During her time as the US Secretary of State, Ms Hillary Clinton, reportedly tried to influence the Russian presidential election with the goal of having an American puppet defeat Vladmir Putin.

This piece was written by Odilim Enwegbara and first published on The Punch. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

Putin was believed to be so angry that he decided to make sure Clinton herself would never become her own country’s president.

Americans are still in shock that Russia could determine who should occupy the White House. But besides his accord with Russia’s Putin, President Donald Trump also promised Israel of making sure that during his first year in office, he would be moving the US Embassy to Jerusalem in full recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

But before his recent announcement to that effect, Trump tried to lobby powerful countries, whose leaders promised him that while they might not support it at the UN, they would never vote against it as well. Unfortunately, notwithstanding that it’s our sovereign right to cast our votes at the UN, for less powerful countries like Nigeria, who thought that their decisions would hardly matter on  such decisions of theirs, it seems that by shifting the whole blame on them this time round, Washington has decided to make them scapegoats.

That is why I have the fear that if it is true that President Trump recently expressed anger at our country — and particularly our President — for our voting against Jerusalem being Israeli capital, no doubt, his threats could include undermining him at the polls come 2019 presidential election.

We all know that if America decides not to allow President Buhari to be reelected, it would be extremely difficult for him to be reelected, especially given that no nation is perceived to be more sophisticated and much better at rigging elections than the US. And the fact remains that no organisation is better equipped than the CIA in forcing Washington’s preferred candidates on nations of strategic interest.

Besides being perceived as master riggers, by making the entire economy to collapse a few months to the general election, the CIA can easily make people to hardly vote for the incumbent President.

So, who exactly would Trump’s America likely support?

Given that both the APC and the PDP have agreed that the presidency should remain in the North, who exactly should Trump be supporting? Some Nigeria watchers in Washington are insisting that it should be former Vice President Atiku Abubakar who is considered to be a religious moderate as well as ethnically more of a unifier than a divider.

Because there is yet to be an agreement to that effect, there are others who are leaning towards Governor Nasir el-Rufai, who as a graduate of Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, is considered to be more cosmopolitan with a more sophisticated understanding of world economy and politics.

But as it stands now, both Atiku and el-Rufai are going to have tough time getting there.  For Atiku, President Olusegun Obasanjo is his major nut to crack. It will be difficult to underestimate Obasanjo when decisions concerning Nigeria are being made in Washington, given his long closeness to Washington. But, is Obasanjo indispensable? It is likely that Trump will ignore the Obasanjo factor should he decide it must be Atiku after all he is actually an anti-establishment president.

In the case of el-Rufai, it is going to be extremely more difficult given that President Buhari has not only declared his intention for second term, but had since started his reelection campaigns with the former Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Amaechi, reportedly appointed for the second time as his campaign’s Director-General. It is unlikely that the APC would refuse the President’s reelection bid, especially given that there is no official opposition coming from the national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu.

In any case, isn’t it possible that both President Trump and President Buhari could easily resolve their differences, especially with Buhari seeking the intervention of Saudi Arabia? After all, as it was whispered to my ears some time ago by one of my Washington friends, there was no way Washington would have openly and forcefully opposed Jonathan’s reelection had it not been calls from the Saudi King seeking support for Buhari.

Unfortunately, the current relationship between Washington and Riyadh has become so toxic because of Trump’s insistent on Jerusalem being officially recognised by his government as the authentic capital of Israel. But why should it given that that pronouncement is in the process of degenerating to another inevitable Arab/Israeli conflict, with America as usual supporting Israel? Even if Buhari could diplomatically sort himself out of the current situation, he is still to confront the growing internal opposition to his reelection.

One of the bones of contention is the unresolved incessant Fulani herdsmen killings across the nation, particularly in the South and the Middle Belt. Because of this, most Christians in America and Europe have come to believe that it is a kind of covert religion-induced killing of Christians. Worsening the situation or giving credence to this thesis is the fact that President Buhari has not been forceful and proactive in dealing with these reckless killings of powerless people whose territories they always invaded with dangerous machine guns.

Holy Cow: Impunity Rides Again Through Killer Herdsmen – Wole Soyinka

Holy Cow: Impunity Rides Again Through Killer Herdsmen – Wole Soyinka

It is happening all over again. History is repeating itself and, alas, within such an agonisingly short span of time. How often must we warn against the enervating lure of appeasement in face of aggression and will to dominate! I do not hesitate to draw attention to Volume III of my INTERVENTION Series, and to the chapter on “The Unappeasable Price of Appeasement”. There is little to add, but it does appear that even the tragically fulfilled warnings of the past leave no impression on leadership, not even when identical signs of impending cardiac arrest loom over the nation. Boko Haram was still at that stage of putative probes when cries of alarm emerged. Then the fashion ideologues of society deployed their distancing turns of phrase to rationalise what were so obviously discernable as an agenda of ruthless fundamentalism and internal domination. Boko Haram was a product of social inequities, they preached – one even chortled: We stand for justice, so we are all Boko Haram! We warned that – yes indeed – the inequities of society were indeed part of the story, but why do you close your eyes against other, and more critical malfunctions of the human mind, such as theocratic lunacy? Now it is happening again. The nation is being smothered in Vaseline when the diagnosis is so clearly – cancer!

We have been here before – now, ‘before’ is back with a vengeance. President Goodluck Jonathan refused to accept that marauders had carried off the nation’s daughters; President Muhammed Buhari and his government – including his inspector-general of police – in near identical denial, appear to believe that killer herdsmen who strike again and again at will from one corner of the nation to the other, are merely hot-tempered citizens whose scraps occasionally degenerate into “communal clashes” – I believe I have summarised him accurately. The marauders are naughty children who can be admonished, paternalistically, into good neighbourly conduct. Sometimes, of course, the killers were also said be non-Nigerians after all. The contradictions are mind-boggling.

First the active policy of appeasement, then the language of endorsement. El Rufai, governor of Kaduna State, proudly announced that, on assuming office, he had raised a peace committee and successfully traced the herdsmen to locations outside Nigerian borders. He then made payments to them from state coffers to cure them of their homicidal urge which, according to these herdsmen, were reprisals for some ancient history and the loss of cattle through rustling. The public was up in arms against this astonishing revelation. I could only call to mind a statement by the same El Rufai after a prior election which led to a rampage in parts of the nation, and cost even the lives of National Youth Service corpers. They were hunted down by aggrieved mobs and even states had to organise rescue missions for their citizens. Countering protests that the nation owed a special duty of protection to her youth, especially those who are co-opted to serve the nation in any capacity, El Rufai’s comment then was: No life is more important than another. Today, that statement needs to be adjusted, to read perhaps – apologies to George Orwell: “All lives are equal, but a cow’s is more equal than others.”

This seems to be the government view, one that, overtly or by implication, is being amplified through act and pronouncement, through clamorous absence, by this administration. It appears to have infected even my good friend and highly capable minister, Audu Ogbeh, however insidiously. What else does one make of his statements in an interview where he generously lays the blame for ongoing killings everywhere but at the feet of the actual perpetrators! His words, as carried by The Nation newspapers:

“The inability of the government to pay attention to herdsmen and cow farming, unlike other developed countries, contributed to the killings.”

The minister continued:

“Over the years, we have not done much to look seriously into the issue of livestock development in the country…. We may have done enough for the rice farmer, the cassava farmer, the maize farmer, the cocoa farmer, but we haven’t done enough for herdsmen, and that inability and omission on our part is resulting in the crisis we are witnessing today.”

No, no, not so, Audu! It is true that I called upon the government a week ago to stop passing the buck over the petroleum situation. I assure you however that I never intended that a reverse policy should lead to exonerating – or appearing to exonerate – mass killers, rapists and economic saboteurs – saboteurs, since their conduct subverts the efforts of others to economically secure their own existence, drives other producers off their land in fear and terror. This promises the same plague of starvation that afflicts zones of conflict all over this continent where liberally sown landmines prevent farmers from venturing near their prime source, the farm, often their only source of livelihood, and has created a whole population of amputees. At least, those victims in Angola, Mozambique and other former war theatres, mostly lived to tell the tale. These herdsmen, arrogant and unconscionable, have adopted a scorched-earth policy, so that those other producers – the cassava, cocoa, sorghum, rice etc. farmers are brutally expelled from farm and dwelling.

Government neglect? You may not have intended it, but you made it sound like the full story. I applaud the plans of your ministry, I am in a position to know that much thought – and practical steps – have gone into long term plans for bringing about the creation of ‘ranches’, ‘colonies’ – whatever the name – including the special cultivation of fodder for animal feed and so on and on. However, the present national outrage is over impunity. It rejects the right of any set of people, for whatever reason, to take arms against their fellow men and women, to acknowledge their exploits in boastful and justifying accents and, in effect, promise more of the same as long as their terms and demands are not met. In plain language, they have declared war against the nation, and their weapon is undiluted terror. Why have they been permitted to become a menace to the rest of us? That is the issue!

Permit me to remind you that, early in 2016, an even more hideous massacre was perpetrated by this same Murder Incorporated – that is, a numerical climax to what had been a series across a number of Middle Belt and neighbouring states, with Benue taking the brunt of the butchery. A peace meeting was called, attended by the state government and security agencies of the nation, including the inspector general of police. This group attended – according to reports – with AK47s and other weapons of mass intimidation visible under their garments. They were neither disarmed nor turned back. They freely admitted the killings but justified them by claims that they had lost their cattle to the host community. It is important to emphasise that none of their spokesmen referred to any government neglect, such as refusal to pay subsidy for their cows or failure to accord them the same facilities that had been extended to cassava or millet farmers. Such are the monstrous beginnings of the culture of impunity. We are reaping, yet again, the consequences of such tolerance of the intolerable. Yes, there indeed the government is culpable, definitely guilty of “looking the other way”. Indeed, it must be held complicit.

This question is now current, and justified: Just when is terror? I am not aware that IPOB came anywhere close to this homicidal propensity and will to dominance before it was declared a terrorist organisation. The international community rightly refused to go along with such an absurdity. For the avoidance of doubt, let me state right here, and yet again, that IPOB leadership is its own worst enemy. It repels public empathy, indeed, I suspect that it deliberately cultivates an obnoxious image, especially among its internet mouthers who make rational discourse impossible. However, as we pointed out at the time, the conduct of that movement, even at its most extreme, could by no means be reckoned as terrorism. By contrast, how do we categorise Myeti? How do we assess a mental state that cannot distinguish between a stolen cow – which is always recoverable – and human life, which is not. Villages have been depopulated far wider than those outside their operational zones can conceive. They swoop on sleeping settlements, kill and strut. They glory in their seeming supremacy. Cocoa farmers do not kill when there is a cocoa blight. Rice farmers, cassava and tomato farmers do not burn. The herdsmen cynically dredge up decades-old affronts – they did at the 2016 Benue “peace meeting” to justify the killings of innocents in the present. These crimes are treated like the norm. Once again, the nation is being massaged by specious rationalisations, while the rampage intensifies and the spread spirals out of control. When we open the dailies tomorrow morning, there is certain to have been a new body count, to be followed by the arrogant justification of the Myeti Allah.

The warnings pile up, the distress signals have turned into a prolonged howl of despair and rage. The answer is not to be found in pietistic appeals to victims to avoid ‘hate language’ and divisive attributions. The sustained, killing monologue of the herdsmen is what is at issue. It must be curbed, decisively and without further evasiveness.

Yes, Jonathan only saw ‘ghosts’ when Boko Haram was already excising swathes of territory from the nation space and abducting school pupils. The ghosts of Jonathan seem poised to haunt the tenure of Mohammed Buhari.

10 persons were sent to their early graves after a road accident at the Alapako/Ogunmakin end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The accident which occurred at the Alapako – Ogunmakin stretch of the expressway involved a Ford bus with registration number BDJ410YM and an IVECO truck.

It was learnt that the bus driver, who had 11 passengers, collided with the cement-laden Dangote truck around 9pm on Tuesday, as the two vehicles were heading in opposite directions.

The Route Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Command, Florence Okpe who confirmed the accident to newsmen said the victims included seven men and three women.

He said, “A fatal crash occurred on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 around 9pm immediately after the diversion made by the RCC for repairs of weakened bridges around the segments of the expressway.

“A commercial bus, with number plate, BD J410 YM, which was travelling from Lagos, attempted to overtake vehicles travelling at the section of the road diversion. In the process, it had a head-on collision with an unregistered Dangote truck, laden with cement and travelling in opposite directions.

“This resulted in the entire passengers being trapped and it took the intervention of the RCC crane, requested by the FRSC rescue team, to extricate the trapped passengers from the truck.

“A total of 10 passengers– seven males and three females– died from injuries sustained from the impact of the crash. The only survivor was taken to Ife-Plus, a hospital at Ogunmakin.”
