Aisha Alhassan Pledges Allegiance To APC – Despite Previous Support For Atiku

Featured Image

In spite of her previous show of support for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Alhassan, has dismissed speculations that she is planning to dump the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The minister also pledged her allegiance to President Muhammadu Buhari, saying “I am and I will continue to remain in APC.’’

In November last year, Abubakar had announced his defection to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Reports had then emerged that Alhassan – who had earlier in September said she would support Abubakar for the 2019 presidential election even if President Buhari decided to run – and other allies of the former vice president would join him in the PDP.

She had said: “Atiku is my godfather even before I joined politics, and again, Baba Buhari did not tell us that he is going to run in 2019.”

“Let me tell you today that if Baba said he is going to contest in 2019, I swear to Allah, I will go before him and kneel and tell him that ‘Baba I am grateful for the opportunity you gave me to serve your government as a minister but Baba just like you know I will support only Atiku because he is my godfather. If Atiku said he is going to contest.”

However, she told Premium Times that she was not forced to leave the PDP on which platform she became a senator.

“Politics is all about interest, and nobody forced me to leave PDP to join APC, so no want will force me out of it,” she said.

“I will continue to work for APC and that’s why I travelled out to Taraba, to campaign for our party’s candidate Sanusi Jambawaile.

“I know many may wish to see me leaving APC, but let me assure them I will remain in APC!

‘’So, how can I destroy the house we collectively built?”

Well known as Mama Taraba, the former senator, who declined comment on Mr. Abubakar’s defection from the APC, said the party “is intact in Taraba.’’

She added, “There is no squabble or faction, and our great party APC in Taraba is intact. That’s why we all work and campaigned together with His Excellency the former Acting Governor UTC.

‘’So, we are one no any problem as some of you thought,’’ she further.

Emir Sanusi Admits To Be Patron Of Miyetti Allah Alongside Sultan Of Sokoto, Others

Featured Image

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, has admitted that he is a patron of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN).

While also admitting that the group is not violent in nature, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) added that the Sultan of Sokoto, Emir of Katsina, Emir of Zazzau and the Lamido of Adamawa were also fellow patrons.

He made this known while speaking exclusively with The Punch.

He said: “As I understand it when Miyetti Allah was first set up, they requested a few Fulani emirs to be their patrons in their capacity as emirs. The first grand patron was Sultan Abubakar III and he was replaced by successive sultans – Dasuki, Maccido and Saad Abubakar now.”

“Other patrons were emir of Kano, Lamido of Adamawa and emirs of Zazzau and Katsina, I believe. So, my predecessor was a patron and on my ascension to the throne, I became a patron. This is all nominal.”

“To the best of my knowledge, Miyetti Allah has never been involved in acts of violence and has always condemned violence and called on its members to eschew violence.”

“It is, however, committed to protecting the fundamental rights of herdsmen as Nigerians including constitutional right to freedom of movement and the ownership of private wealth and peaceful conduct of their business.”

ATTENTION! NYSC Suspends Orientation Course In Benue, Taraba Camps

Featured Image

The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced the suspension of the orientation course for 2017 BATCH “B” STREAM II in its camps in Taraba and Benue States.

The orientation course was scheduled to start on January 16, 2018.

However, in a statement issued on its social media accounts, some hours ago, the Scheme informed prospective corp members (PCM) that a new date will be communicated soon.‎

“The NYSC management wishes to inform all PCMs deployed to Benue and Taraba states that the 2017 Batch B stream 2 orientation course scheduled to hold in Benue camp has been suspended. A new date will be communicated to you in due course,” the agency said.

While no reason was given for the postponement, it is a no-brainer that the suspension might not be unconnected to the violence that both states have suffered recently from clashes between herdsmen and farming communities leading to scores of deaths.

The NYSC had previously fixed January 16 for the opening of orientation camps for prospective Batch B, Stream 2, corps members nationwide.‎

The management of the Scheme had said the 2017 Batch ‘B’ Stream II orientation course was scheduled to hold in 15 NYSC Orientation Camps which were Abia, Bauchi, Benue, Delta, Enugu, Sokoto, Jigawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Plateau, Lagos, Osun, Oyo, Rivers and the FCT.

Report: Manchester United Agree Contract Terms With Alexis Sanchez

Featured Image

There are strong reports doing the rounds on the internet that Alexis Sanchez has agreed contract terms with Manchester United.

Sanchez was left out of Arsenal‘s matchday squad for the 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon, amid speculation of a January exit, while Arsene Wenger also confirmed that a resolution on the striker’s future was imminent.

Table topping Manchester City had been expected to conclude a deal for Sanchez this month after Arsenal pulled the plug on their £60million transfer in the closing stages of the summer window.

However, there are now strong reports that United are now favourites to land the 29-year-old after beating the Premier League leaders with their offer.

Sky Sports News understands United are interested in beating local rivals Manchester City to the signing of Sanchez this month, and it emerged on Friday that City are not prepared to pay Arsenal’s £35m valuation.

A moment ago, its Sports broadcaster Jim White tweeted: “Just had strong hint from top source that @ManUtd looking like the next destination for Sanchez. Not done yet though.”

Metro UK also reports that the Chilean has agreed contract terms with Manchester United.

Quoting Gianluca Di Marzio, the news outlet reports that United have reached an agreement with Sanchez and his representatives and are willing to make Sanchez the highest-paid player in the Premier League by some distance with a £400,000-a-week contract.

Mourinho’s side is also ready to pay £30m to Arsenal, which is only £5m below the Gunners’ asking price.

Meanwhile, Mourinho has done nothing to rule out United’s interest in Sanchez and admitted that his club’s summer plans will be altered should he recruit over the next two weeks.

“Our squad was not (built) to have new players in January,” he said.

“We build a squad with this idea, with this philosophy that I share with Mr (Ed) Woodward and the owners. Normally the investment is to be made in the summer. The balance of the squad is made in the summer.

“But sometimes, it (a transfer) can happen. Okay, if on the table is a fantastic opportunity, you fight for that fantastic opportunity. If it happens, it happens. If it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen. But I like my squad and I like my players.

“I think normally next summer we will try again to improve our squad in the different departments and try to make every department stronger. That’s the normal situation with us.

“If in the winter market you do something, you have to do something that stops you to do it again in the summer. So you are not going to buy a goalkeeper now and buy another goalkeeper in the summer. So if you decide to improve the goalkeeper group now, you are not going to improve it again in the summer.

“Let’s say in the summer we have three targets – a defender, a midfielder and an attacking player – if in the winter you do one of the three, then in the summer you are going to do three minus one.”

Anthony Joshua To Fight Joseph Parker In Cardiff On March 31

Featured Image

Anthony Joshua will take on Joseph Parker in a world heavyweight unification fight at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on March 31.

Anthony Joshua holds the IBF and WBA belts, while Joseph Parker is the WBO champion.

Whoever wins in March is certain to then face undefeated American Deontay Wilder, who holds the fourth belt in the heavyweight division.

“I would like to announce the official news that myself and Joseph Parker will be fighting on March 31 at Principality Stadium in Cardiff,” Joshua is quoted by The Telegraph as saying.

“It is a unification heavyweight championship fight, we all know what happened last time I was in a unification heavyweight championship fight. It was gruelling, it was interesting and we both left the ring with masses of respect.

“These fights aren’t easy because there is a lot on the line, so respect to team Parker for taking the challenge. And you know me, I love this game. I am looking forward to it, training camp is underway and before you know it March 31 will be upon us. Stay tuned for more news and I will see you all soon, God bless.”

Both Joshua and Parker boast unbeaten records in professional boxing.

WBO champion Joseph Parker said he was relieved the contractual negotiations had now been concluded as he could now fully concentrate on the job in hand. “Anthony Joshua is in for a huge shock,” Parker said. “A couple of months ago I heard him say ‘why should I be worried about this little kid from New Zealand’?

“Well, now he’s about to find out. And the world is about to find out whether AJ can really take a punch. My entire existence is now devoted to proving what the boxing world already knows.”

Anthony Joshua returns to the scene of his last action in the ring, where Carlos Takam became his 20th win inside the distance from his 20 professional fights, the fourth defence of his IBF crown and first of the WBA Super and IBO belts he landed in his epic, dramatic battle with Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley Stadium last April.

“I’m delighted to get this fight made – it’s been a long time coming,” said Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn. “Champions should fight Champions and AJ continues to step up to the challenges.

“It’s the first time in history that two reigning heavyweight world champions have met in Britain and it’s a classic match-up between two young, fast, undefeated belt holders and it’s going to be an explosive fight. This is another huge unification fight for Anthony as he continues to make history in the quest to become undisputed world heavyweight champion.”

FIFA Condemn Spartak Moscow Over Racially-charged Tweet

Featured Image

FIFA has condemned Spartak Moscow after the club posted an offensive message on their club’s official Twitter feed on Saturday.

Spartak Moscow tweeted a video of black players training in the sun with the caption translating as: “See how the chocolates melt in the sun.”

It led Piara Powar, the chief of anti-discriminatory body Fare, to tell BBC Sport: “Racism is one of the biggest issues Russia faces in the year they host the World Cup. References like this show how some minorities are seen by some in the country.

“For Russia’s biggest club to tolerate and then celebrate racist references of this kind is wrong.”

The tweet, which was posted during the club’s warm-weather training camp in Dubai, was only taken down after several hours.

It sparked widespread criticism and, in a statement to Sky Sports, FIFA said it “condemns the message published on Twitter account of Spartak Moscow.”

The statement added: “As said many times, any form of discrimination on or outside the field is unacceptable and has no place in football.

“As to the handling of this matter, this falls under the responsibility of the relevant national body.

“Please note that, at its meeting in May 2017, the FIFA Council emphasised that member associations and referees should be ready to adopt a strict policy to deal with incidents of racist nature.”

Anti-discrimination group Kick It Out said: “This social media post from the official account of Spartak Moscow only continues to highlight the prejudices towards black people in Russia.

“With the World Cup only a few months away, it is a reminder that Russia, as with the whole of football, has significant work to do to eradicate racism of all forms from the game.”

Arsene Wenger Suggests Alexis Sanchez Is Set To Leave Arsenal

Featured Image

Arsene Wenger has suggested that Alexis Sanchez is on the brink of leaving the club after omitting the forward from his squad to face Bournemouth.

Alexis Sanchez was not included in the Gunners’ 18-man travelling party for Sunday lunchtime’s encounter at the Vitality Stadium.

Sanchez has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester City over the past six months, while Manchester United and Liverpool have also reportedly joined the race.

Wenger believes that the 29-year-old’s future is close to being resolved one way or another, telling Sky Sports News: “He’s been vague at the moment; his situation is not decided one way or the other so I left him at home.”

Asked if a resolution was imminent, Wenger added: “Yes, but don’t read too much into it because even I don’t know what way it will go. You want to focus on the players who are on the pitch who can do well for the club.”

I Left Arsenal To Give My Career A Boost- Francis Coquelin

Featured Image

Newest Valencia signing Francis Coquelin has told L’Equipe it was “difficult” to decide to leave Arsenal, but insisted his move is a necessary step to boost his career.

Francis Coquelin, 26, ended nine years at Arsenal by signing a four-and-a-half year contract with the Spanish club this week.

A regular in the Arsenal first-team squad but not in the starting line-up, the French midfielder, who spent loan spells at Lorient, Freiburg and Charlton Athletic during his time in north London, admitted he could no longer settle for a bit-part role as he had made just one Premier League start this season.

“I spent some great years at Arsenal. They’re the club that launched my career, I’ll never forget that. It’s difficult to leave. I was playing games, yes, but not necessarily those that counted. I needed to grow still more,” he said.

“I’m in an important period in my career. I wasn’t playing much at Arsenal, and I wanted to see something different, to experience another story. I have chosen a club with a great past, a family club. And I immediately felt good here.”

Coquelin admitted he had talked to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger about the opportunity to leave the club, despite still having two-and-a-half years left on his contract at the Emirates Stadium.

“We had a very healthy discussion together,” he said. “He’s someone I have a huge amount of respect for. I told him what I thought, him too, and he understood. The only thing is that I didn’t want to leave on loan, but really to start a new cycle. This is perfect.”

Coquelin also said he harbours no regrets over swapping the Premier League for La Liga.

“Honestly, no. I would have had if, in 2014, I had left when I was out of contract,” he added. “There was a change at that moment, I played a lot of games. We won a cup, we finished in the top three several times. I can’t be disappointed with that.”

Jose Mourinho On Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s Future- “Every Player Has A Price”

Featured Image

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been offered no assurances over his long-term Manchester United future by Jose Mourinho.

The Armenian was one of Mourinho’s first signings in the summer of 2016 but inconsistency has blighted the playmaker since he joined from Borussia Dortmund for £26.3m.

The 29-year-old began this season with five assists in the first three top-flight fixtures but his form tailed off and having been substituted at half-time against Derby in their most recent game – a move Mourinho later apologised for – his name has been littered in gossip columns regarding a potential exit this month.

“It doesn’t matter who he is. It doesn’t matter the level. It doesn’t matter the prestige, the status. I think every player has a price.

“And I am not the kind of blind manager…blind in the sense of, this player is untouchable, can never be sold. I think every player has a price.”

So when the transfer window is open is also open for any club that is interested in our players. Then it is up to us to make the decision yes or no, is up to us to decide what we think is the right price.

“But Mkhitaryan, he played the last match against Derby and probably will play the next one.

“He is our player, he is a very good player, so he trains, he is selected and Monday he plays.”

Wilshere Not Expecting Contract Renewal In January

Featured Image

Jack Wilshere is exercising patience over a new contract, but does not expect to sign a renewal in January.

The England international is among players at Arsenal in the final season of their contract.

However, Sanchez and Ozil have not expressed a desire to stay and Wilshere hopes an agreement can be reached.

“There’s not a decision to make in January,” the 26-year-old midfielder told Sky Sports.

“I’ve still got six months left of my contract, I’m an Arsenal player and I’m enjoying playing week in, week out.

“I’ve had loads of questions about my future and there’s nothing more I can say until something’s official and we can concentrate on the future but right now, I’m concentrating on each game as it comes.

“I’ve just got back into the team and the club, I suppose, were just waiting for that moment where I’ve proved my fitness and I’ve proved that I can play in the Premier League each week for a top club so now that’s happened.

“We’re not waiting for anything really, maybe the right time when there’s a little break in the fixtures – which there’s not – but I’m sure in a couple of weeks, something will get done or the boss will say something and we’ll go from there.”

Davido, A.Y Dragged To Court By Lagos State Government For Tax Evasion

Featured Image

Emerging reports have it that Nigerian Singer, Davido and Comedian, AY have been slammed with law suit by Lagos State Government for tax evasion.

Both entertainers have had history of legal tussle with Lagos State Government for their failure to remit taxes to the state government treasury.

According to a close source who spoke with reporters, Davido and AY have been avoiding tax agencies for a very long time. All efforts by the State Internal Revenue Service through letters and calls urging them to remit their taxes have been fruitless.

“Notable among these alleged tax offenders are two of Nigeria’s celebrated artistes –Davido and AY, the comedian. Both artistes have had a long standing battle with the Lagos Internal Revenue Service for tax evasion.

“Davido, who has record deals with Sony Music Entertainment and endorsement agreements with various companies in Nigeria, has not filed his tax returns or remit any taxes to the Lagos State Government,” the source said.

In defense of the allegation of tax evasion, Davido has reacted saying he is not defaulting in tax remittance as he pays tax to Osun State Government being his state of origin.

However, the source added that, celebrities are ignorant of tax law as it stipulates that tax must be paid to state of residence.

“Remember that Davido said he made N500m from his N30bn concert recently. We must know how much he paid to the LIRS.

“AY too said the same thing. The comedian claimed to be paying his taxes to Ondo State, where he hails from. It seems these celebrities don’t understand that the tax law stipulates that you must pay your tax to your state of residence.

“Anyway, we are already in court. Others will soon appear in court if they don’t obey the state tax law. You can’t be making money in Lagos and refuse to pay tax.” the source said.

Asa Asika, Davido’s manager was contacted to confirm the authenticity of the suit against Davido by the Lagos State Government. He is however yet to respond as at the time of filing this report.

Zidane On Madrid: It Is F***** Up

Featured Image

Zinedine Zidane admits the situation at Madrid is unexpected and confidence is low.

Los Blancos fell to an unprecedented loss against Villarreal at home, with an 87th minute counterattack relegating Madrid to another loss.

Madrid have only won one of their last five matches and could drop 19 points behind Barcelona.

“It’s very difficult for the confidence,” said head coach Zidane, who guided Madrid to UEFA Super Cup, Supercopa de Espana and Club World Cup glory earlier in the season.

“We had chances to score but in the end… we couldn’t avoid the counter and… it’s just very f****** up for all the players.

“What we have to do is keep working, because there will come a time and we have to be there.

“Within all the negative things that are happening to us, we are going to look for something positive.”

“We have to get a win from somewhere,” the under-fire Frenchman added.

“We know the situation and every day it gets more complicated, so we are not even thinking about the League, just about the next match.”
