Guardiola: Premier League Is The Most Important

Featured Image

Pep Guardiola sees the Premier League as the most important trophy to win, and insists his men are focused on winning it.

Manchester City face Arsenal on Thursday, four days after beating the gunners 4-0 to win the Carabao Cup.

A comfortable first leg win over Basel and a 13-point lead in the PL, means City have a chance at doing the treble.

And Guardiola insists his men are looking to win the Premier League more than any other trophy.

“We are fighting for the most important title of the season, by far, the Premier League,” he told a pre-match news conference.

“More than the Champions League, more than the FA Cup, more than the EFL Cup.

“In football and sport you always forget what you have done, good or bad, and think about the next one.”

Manchester United Midfielder Nemanja Matic Praises Fellow Teammate Scott McTominay

Featured Image

Nemanja Matic has described his Manchester United teammate Scott McTominay as an “amazing” talent after forcing his way into the first-team picture.

Scott McTominay has started each of Manchester United’ last three games, including the crucial meetings with Sevilla and Chelsea over the past week.

Matic has been impressed by what he has seen from McTominay so far, and believes that there is still far more to come from his central-midfield partner in the coming years.

“He is amazing. He is 21 and to play like that [against Chelsea] and control the game like that is impressive,” he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News. “He will be a big player for Manchester United.

“I like him because he is a very nice guy and he doesn’t have a problem to ask something before the game. I am always there to help him. When I came to Manchester, I saw within a few days he would become a top player.

“He is working very hard, but I don’t want to say too many things about him because he is still very young. But he deserves all the good things.”

Barcelona Still Working On Deal To Bring Antoine Griezmann To The Club

Featured Image

Barcelona are still working on a deal to bring one-time Manchester United transfer target Antoine Griezmann to the Nou Camp, according to AS.

Barcelona have even reserved the No 7 shirt for him, left vacant since the departure of Arda Turan.

The La Liga side want to sign the Atletico Madrid forward and Brazilian midfielder Arthur to complete their next rebuilding phase and secure their long-term future as a dominant force in Europe.

Having seen his buyout clause temporarily rise to €200m in light of Atletico’s transfer ban being upheld last summer, Griezmann will be available for half that at the end of the season. Barça are willing to pay the necessary €100m and have made sure the 26-year-old wants to sign.

Coach Ernesto Valverde is said to be a big admirer, having witnessed Griezmann from afar as an opposition manager for almost a decade. And Sport’s report claims that the Frenchman is one of the players the senior figures in the Barça like most.

Louis Van Gaal Unhappy With How Jose Mourinho Treated Bastian Schweinsteiger

Featured Image

Louis van Gaal has said he was unhappy with the way his Man Utd successor Jose Mourinho treated Bastian Schweinsteiger at Old Trafford.

Mourinho froze him out and made his train with the reserves, before he was later allowed to leave for MLS side Chicago Fire.

And Van Gaal feels that the World Cup winner was badly treated by Mourinho.

“Schweinsteiger was, of course, older but not too old,” the former United boss told Bild.

“His body was not able to keep up with the high demands of Premier League.

“Bayern sold him to us as fit player, but, in fact, physically he had reached the end.

“How Mourinho treated him after me, Schweini did not deserve this. But it explains the situation, how it stood with Schweinsteiger.

“It’s a shame because he is a player like Luis Enrique, Mark van Bommel or Philipp Lahm – the guys who always present on the pitch.”

Louis Van Gaal also revealed he came close to signing two more German players who he feels could have helped make a difference to his troubled reign.

“I wanted to sign Hummels for Manchester United,” he added. “But because at that time he was coming out of a poorer season, we didn’t do it in the end.

“I can confirm that I wanted Muller. But there was nothing we could do. FC Bayern made it clear that they would not sell him.”

Jeremian Lens Completes Permanent Transfer To Besiktas From Sunderland

Featured Image

Turkish side Besiktas have exercised their right to sign Sunderland winger Jeremian Lens on a permanent basis.

The Dutch international has enjoyed loan spells at Fenerbahce and Besiktasin the last two years. Sunderland signed the 30-year-old from Dynamo Kyiv for £9m three years ago.

A statement on the club’s official website, www.bjy.com.tr, said: “As stated in our report dated 07.08.2017, the final purchase option for Jeremain Marciano Lens, loaned from Sunderland for the 2017-18 season, was used on 28.02.2018.”

Jeremian Lens joined the Black Cats on a four-year deal in an £8million move from Dynamo Kiev in July 2015 under then manager Dick Advocaat.

However, after a successful start to his career in England, his form dipped following Advocaat’s departure just three months later and his wage packet became a burden on an increasingly cash-strapped club.

Album Review: 27 – Falz

Featured Image

Rapper Falz pulled a Beyonce in the twilight months (October) of 2017 when he dropped his third album on an unsuspecting audience. The title 27, named for his present age, though, recalled British songstress and vanquisher of Beyonce for the Album of the Year Grammy, Adele in spirit. The top selling, award hogging Adele is in the habit of naming her albums by her age at time of recording.

Produced by Falz regular collaborator, Sess the Problem Kid with occasional support from Maleek Berry and Studio Magic, 27 is one of those safe records that artistes make while they are at that sweet spot when they are still basking in the glory of superstardom, yet unsure of what direction to go next.

If there is anything surprising about 27 beyond the suddenness of its release, it is that for a Falz record, especially coming after 2015’s excellent Stories that Touch, album number three is quite square and unable to thrill.

This thrill factor and willingness to explore as many themes and musical styles as possible is strangely absent here, replaced instead by a familiar reliance on afropop music tropes. Looking back, this was predicted by the precursor singles Jeje and Bahd Badoo Baddest that accompanied 27’s release. Only the humor laced Something Light with a light-on-his-feet Ycee seemed to hint of truly exciting moments.

Hit single, La Fete is memorable for the delivery of its catchy chorus in a mixture of French and English but the Demsa produced finished product stays comfortably within pop circles. There is more French to be encountered on the bearable bad boy anthem, Le Vrai Bahd Guy.

The genuinely bright spots on the record are generated by the guest stars.

Burna Boy never came across a beat he couldn’t murk up and he proceeds to seize control of the narrative on Alright. Wande Coal brings his saccharine sweet vocals to the ready to dance Way, a mini-blast that continues in the tradition of Mr Coal’s Iskaba.

Sir Dauda gives a good account of himself on the two tracks he is featured in. The deliberate clunky nature of Boogie does not stand out instantly, but it settles quite well into the record’s lazy pace eventually. Confirm is saved from its basic advice column material by Sir Dauda’s confident vocal delivery. My Money is Rihanna’s Bitch Better Have My Money meets Aramide’s Funmi Lowo set to a low key trap beat.

When he gets into the consciousness spirit, Falz cannot quite stop himself from going over the top with the preaching and Child of the World represents the messiness of these tendencies. On the record’s longest running track (4:29), Falz narrates a story of sexual abuse and repercussions for actions taken.

27 isn’t all heavy stuff though.

There are plenty of playful moments, perhaps too many of them as Falz switches easily between his regular self and his Brother Taju comedian alter ego. There is the mandatory Fela pseudo cover on the Juls produced Get Me, and the light hearted dance take, The Lambo Song.

With 27, Falz has for the first time in his album releasing career begun to show signs of lethargy. He may still be able to deliver the goods, especially when the industry wide bar has been reduced to the barest minimum, but the album is a steep decline from his last. Monotonous and unadorned with artifice, 27 is fair enough to pass muster, but far from the best work Falz could have made at this point in his career.

WHO: Death Toll Rises To 72 As Nigeria Suffers Worst Lassa Fever Outbreak

Featured Image

Nigeria is suffering its worst outbreak of Lassa fever, the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Wednesday, as local health officials said 72 people had died since the start of this year.

“Nigeria’s Lassa fever outbreak has reached record highs, with 317 laboratory confirmed cases,” the WHO said in a statement, quoting figures from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Lassa Fever And Why You Need To Take It Seriously (Must Read)

Lassa fever, named after the town in northern Nigeria where it was first identified in 1969, is endemic but the number of confirmed cases “has never reached” this level before, it added.

On February 6, 31 people were reported to have died from the disease, which is caused by a virus of the same family as Marburg and Ebola.

But in an update, the NCDC said: “Since the onset of the 2018, 325 cases have been classified as: 317 confirmed cases, eight probable cases with 72 deaths.”

Fourteen health workers have been affected by the virus in six states.

The WHO said a total of 2,845 people who have come into contact with patients have been identified and were being monitored.

Worst-hit by the virus is Edo state, in the south, where Crusoe Osagie, a media aide to the state government, said mostly rural areas were affected.

“Edo state is the only state with Lagos to have a special treating hospital for this disease, which is in Irrua,” he told AFP. “People come here from all over. ”

The federal-owned facility usually deals with about a hundred cases each year but has already handled that number in the last two months, he added.

WHO said it was supporting the NCDC effort to contain the disease and treat those affected in treatment centres across the country.

“The ability to rapidly detect cases of infection in the community and refer them early for treatment improves patients’ chances of survival and is critical to this response,” said the world body’s representative in Nigeria, Wondimagegnehu Alemu.

Lassa fever is spread through contact with food or items contaminated with rats’ urine or faeces or after coming into direct contact with the bodily fluids of an infected person.

It can be prevented by enhanced hygiene and avoidance of all contact with rats.

More than 100 people were killed in 2016 in an outbreaks affecting 14 of the 36 states, including Lagos and the capital Abuja.

The disclosure was made known by the chairman of the commission, Mamood Yakubu, at a consultative meeting with leaders of political parties in Abuja.

He said: “In 2019, the dates are February 16 and March 2; in 2023, the dates are February 18 and March 4.

“In 2027, the dates are February 20 and March 6; in 2031, it is February 15 and March 1.

“In 2035, it is February 17 and March 3; in 2039, it is February 19 and March 5 and in 2043, it will hold on February 21 and March 7.

Yakubu explained that in other democracies of the world, periods of elections were generally known and were not topics for speculation.

The INEC Chair also said that the aim was to engender certainty in the election calendar and allow for long-term planning by the commission and all stakeholders.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted him as saying that the certainty in election calendar was necessary to match Nigeria’s democratic system with global best practices.

Dapchi And Chibok: A Tale Of Two Identical Presidents

Dapchi And Chibok: A Tale Of Two Identical Presidents – Ademola Adeoye

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

One major issue that makes me suppurate continually is our people’s inability to ask intelligent questions on some obvious issues in our nation. This makes it look as if they have been turned to mere puppets and are being controlled by some puppeteers—who are daily living and sleeping far away from all the problems wrestling the poor as Hulk Hogan. But instead of our people to hold accountable, those they continually vote into power, they are on a daily basis fighting themselves over inanities. It is ridiculous that till now, tribalism and religion are being used to divide the voice-less citizens of Nigeria. Sad!

This piece was written by Ademola Adeoye. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

Four years agothe APC said that GEJ should visit Chibok girls secretly. Also, the party lampooned the President that he bungled the fight against Boko Haram, and has demonstrated “sheer cluelessness” in handling the abduction of the school girls. And when Goodluck Jonathan aborted the plan to visit Chibok, the party abused the daylight out of him, labeling him that he was lying to the nation. They said he was supposed to be “consoler-in-chief.” The party ended up advising GEJ to visit Chibok without informing the nation ahead of the trip.

Boko Haram: Here Are Names Of The 105 Missing Dapchi Girls

The school in Dapchi, where Boko Haram insurgents recently abducted some schoolgirls

The APC also spoke vehemently against Dr.Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and his party that they were blaming everyone, but themselves. They warned him not to use the abducted girls as “pawns on his political chessboard.” GEJ was also lambasted for sending a team of “impudent” ministers—who went to lambaste the altruistic campaigners. They ended up labeling the Administration of GEJ as an insensitive one!

Now that the All Progressives Congress and their hero are in power, they are back justifying what they once condemned. Over the years, they have handled “the altruistic campaigners” worse than they were handled when GEJ was calling the shots. They too are yet to accept responsibility for the ‘rudder-less-ness’ of our country. They blame everyone, but themselves and the small-god they are daily worshipping. Till this evening, PMB is yet to visit Dapchi. I implore the All Progressives Congress (APC) to humbly eat what they served GEJ—by jumping on the next available flight in the wee hours of tomorrow and soar as an Eagle to Dapchi.

As an effect of the clatter and noise that the APC made four years ago, I never knew that they are yet to mount and install surveillance cameras in every school in the Northeast (to start with). There are two things that are conspicuously and noticeably missing in our nation: Intelligence gathering and surveillance cameras. It is impossible for our nation to be well protected without them. Without surveillance cameras being installed everywhere in Nigeria, we are just exposing every citizen of our dear country to needless danger.

The number of surveillance cameras in Greater London is around 500,000 and the total number of cameras in the UK is expected to be around 4,200,000.  The United Kingdom has one camera for every 14 people. It shows they highly value the life of their citizens. The honest question is: how many cameras are we having in Nigeria for every 100 citizens? Nothing! This makes Nigeria to arguably be one the most insecure and dangerous countries to live on earth. A few years ago, many people were wasted in twin-bomb blasts in the heart of Abuja and there was no camera to rewind, so the whole world could see how those bombs were planted. In sane climes, all they would need to do was to rewind one (or two) surveillance camera and all the perpetrators of that dishonorable act would be easily apprehended.

The school in Chibok, where more than 200 schoolgirls were abducted by Boko Haram terrorists

The school in Chibok, where more than 200 schoolgirls were abducted by Boko Haram terrorists. Getty Images

In the 21st century, we are now depending on what hunters and masked-folks (politicians) tell us each time we are pitilessly attacked by terrorists, instead of depending on surveillance cameras. In this day and time, we are now searching for 110 Dapchi girls as if we are searching for a needle. When the news jumped into the open that our precious girls were abducted, this question walked out of my mouth, dragging its feet: “how in this world did those defeated and badly degraded terrorists manage to move 110 girls from Dapchi to only God knows where?” 110 girls, not two girls! There are too many questions begging for answers as beggars would beg for alms. Politicians are clearly using the children of the poor as pawns on their political chessboards. Since this madness began, show me one school for rich kids—that has been attacked by terrorists! Do not quote me out of context; it is not my desire for schools for rich kids to be attacked, I am just saying that it is deadlier than cancer to be poor in Nigeria. The poor has no voice. The poor has no life. The poor has no access to justice. The poor is daily being oppressed. And the law that sets the rich man free binds the poor man!

As I begin to coast home, those who called GEJ unimaginable and ridiculous names—when Chibok girls were abducted are now either quiet or defending PMB, because it is now their own opportunity to ‘chop.’ I now understand the reason why some folks spoke against the last administration. They did so, not because they love Nigeria, but they did so because of their own stomachs and that of their wives (and children). They made so much noise because they were not the ones feeding fat on our collective patrimony then. Now, it is their own turn to ‘chop,’ so they are looking the other way, even days after about 110 Dapchi girls have been kidnapped.

You may not like this, but the truth is; the Administration of President Buhari has taken us 4 years rearward as a nation. And it is so appalling and hurting.

This piece was written by Ademola Adeoye. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

Eric Dier Impressed By Tottenham’s New Signing Lucas Moura

Featured Image

Eric Dier believes that Tottenham will benefit from the attributes of Lucas Moura.

Lucas Moura is still waiting for his first start in the Premier League, but Dier has revealed his excitement after beginning to work with the attacker.

The 24-year-old is quoted by ESPN as saying: “He is going to bring exactly what you saw from him. He’s direct. He’s fast. Technically, he’s very good, even though he’s travelling at a high speed a lot of the time. I think one of his qualities that I really enjoy is that even though he’s fast and moves at pace, he still sees a pass and he’s still intelligent.

“Sometimes it’s difficult for players that have these attributes to still have the calmness in the final third and see the right pass and the right situation, and I think that’s a great quality that he has to go along with his other attributes.”

Harry Kane Good Enough To Play In Any Team In The World- Ronaldinho

Featured Image

Brazil and Barcelona legend Ronaldinho believes that Tottenham striker Harry Kane is good enough to play for any team in the world after hitting “a new level”.

Harry Kane scored 56 goals in 2017, including 39 times in the Premier League, as he broke Alan Shearer’s record for most goals in the competition in a calendar year.

Ronaldinho told The Mirror that Kane, who has 24 Premier League goals this season, could “walk” into the first-team squads at Barcelona and Real Madrid.

“Harry Kane has been a great player for a while now – but there is no doubt this season he has hit a new level,” the Brazilian said.

“He is now at the level where any team in the world would want him. He could walk into any team in Europe. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City, it doesn’t matter how strong the team.

“He is now one of those few players in the world that any team would have to make room for if they had the chance to sign him.”

Mohamad Salah Deserves To Win PFA Player Of The Year- Jordan Henderson

Liverpool Captain Jordan Henderson has said that teammate Mohamed Salah is worthy of the PFA Player of the Year award this season.

Mohamed Salah has scored 31 goals in his first 37 Reds outings, including 23 in the Premier League, as Liverpool sit third in the top flight.

Salah, who joined Liverpool in a £34m deal, has been a “massive influence” according to Henderson.

“Mo has been incredible,” the 27-year-old told The Mirror. “I think playing in the Premier League before with Chelsea helped him because he knew what to expect of the physical demands in English football.

“”From the moment he linked up with us in pre-season you thought, ‘This lad can play’ – but since then he’s kicked on again, and he’s going from strength to strength. Confidence has played a big part in that, and he’s playing full of confidence now.

“He’s scored so many goals, in so many different ways, and he’s been a massive influence for us. If he keeps performing at his current level, he’s definitely up there for the Premier League’s player of the season.

“Top players are quick to develop an understanding on the pitch in terms of their movement and the thing I really like about the three of them – Firmino, Salah, Mane – is that they don’t really care who scores the goals. A lot of strikers are selfish by nature, but they enjoy each other’s success and they appreciate the team giving them a platform to make things happen in the final third.”

My Future As Arsenal’s Manager Is Not My Concern- Arsene Wenger

Featured Image

Arsene Wenger has insisted that his uncertain future ‘is his last worry’ as he is focused on getting Arsenal’s season back on track.

Arsene Wenger has had to fend off fresh questions concerning his job at the Emirates Stadium, having seen his side convincingly trashed by Manchester City in Sunday’s EFL Cup final.

Wenger has batted away talk that he could be on his way in a few months’ time, though, and claims that it is business as usual ahead of Thursday’s league clash with Man City.

“Honestly, my position is the last worry I have, my focus is to get the team ready for the game,” he told reporters at his pre-match press conference. “We are in that kind of situation where you want to focus on the next game.

“I don’t ask if your position is reviewed at the end of the season. My job is to perform and it is for other people to evaluate.”

When probed if he was certain he would still be in charge come next season, Wenger said: “Will it stop you sleeping, that my position might not be certain or is certain? No. What is interesting in football is the performance, it is the game you will see on Thursday night.

“All the rest maybe makes headlines but it is not really interesting. I am amazed I have to answer about things that are exactly the same – I am here for 21 years and turned the world down to respect my contract.”

Wenger Hits Back At Neville

Featured Image

Arsene Wenger has leaped to the defense of his squad, after they were criticised by Gary Neville following their  3-0 loss to Manchester City.

Neville described Arsenal as spineless and an absolute disgrace for their display at Wembley. And the former United man slammed a few players at the club.

“You could find that [walking] on both sides,” Wenger said. “You can always get out pictures from a game that justifies what you think.

“You find in every single game, on both sides, moments where a player doesn’t track. You have to analyse why. Has he made two runs before to go in behind and was exhausted, or did he not track because he didn’t want to? That is different.

“Of course, the players gave me everything. I am long enough in the game to know that when you lose a big game, people always say that the players don’t want it enough.

“Did we lose the game because of that? I am not convinced. When there is a big difference like 3-0 you always get that impression. For me, it is not the main reason.

“We got to the final and you don’t get there by coincidence. You have to fight to get there and we did. We didn’t play against a poor team in the semi-final, we played against Chelsea and we have shown that we can fight.

“We have to live with the criticism, it’s part of the modern game. People who comment – their job is to comment, so you have to live with that. What is important is how we respond.”
