Pep Guardiola Impressed By His “Outstanding” Manchester City Players After Trashing Arsenal In EFL Cup Final

Featured Image

Pep Guardiola has praised his Manchester City players for the “outstanding” manner in which they dismantled Arsenal to win the EFL Cup.

Pep Guardiola earned his first piece of silverware in English football with the 3-0 victory, seeing his side cruise over the line after Vincent Kompany and David Silva added to Sergio Aguero’s first-half opener

Guardiola was particularly pleased by the Citizens’ showing in the second 45, and now hopes to push on by adding the Premier League and Champions League trophies to this season’s collection.

“It’s important. We’re so happy, and a big congratulations to all of Manchester City, and our fans,” he told Sky Sports News. “This trophy is for Manchester City and not for me.

“The first half we were not good, there were a lot of mistakes, in the second half we played with a lot more courage and personality – we were outstanding.

“It was so important to win this one, because we played 10 v 11 for 45 minutes [against Wigan Athletic] so it wasn’t easy. But now we concentrate on the Premier League, where we will try to win the rest of our games, and the Champions League, too.”

Thierry Henry Confirms His Interest In Managing Arsenal

Featured Image

Thierry Henry has admitted that it would be a “dream” to manage the club,

Arsenal lost Sunday afternoon’s EFL Cup final 3-0 to Manchester City – their heaviest ever defeat in a final – and are now left battling for success in the Europa League.

Out of the FA Cup and 10 points adrift of fourth in the Premier League, the pressure is once again on the French boss after his side’s display at Wembley was labelled “a disgrace” by Gary Neville.

Henry, who is currently a member of the Belgium national team’s coaching setup, would be open to succeeding Wenger in the hotseat should his tenure finally come to an end in the summer.

“I still have a job to do with Belgium, but let’s see what’s going to happen,” he told Sky Sports News. “It will be a dream for me, but I’m still with Belgium.

“Interested? Yes, who wouldn’t be? But I can’t talk about that out of respect for the man that is in charge still and my job that I’m doing right now with Belgium. But who wouldn’t be interested?”

Manchester City Deserved Their EFL Cup Final Victory- Arsene Wenger

Featured Image

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has congratulated Manchester City following their 3-0 win in Sunday’s EFL Cup final

Arsene Wenger admitted that Arsenal were punished for their mistakes.

Arsenal squandered their best chance of the match inside the opening 10 minutes, as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s close-range effort was kept out by Claudio Bravo.

Arsenal were then undone by a simple ball over the top from Bravo, which Sergio Aguero took advantage of to put City on their way to a comfortable victory.

“I felt the game, we had the first good chance, a very easy one that we missed,” he told Sky Sports News. “After that we made a big mistake for their first goal. But we controlled them pretty well in the first half, but they came out in the second half, and we were unlucky because the second goal was offside.

“But congratulations to Man City, they deserve the win. You have to accept being criticised when you lose games. But I believe we have to recover quickly. We got to the final, we lost, so now we have to focus on the next Premier League game. When you lose 3-0 of course you have to look at defending better, but I still feel like for large periods we defended well.

“We lost concentration sometimes and against good teams you pay for it. It’s not the application that was missed it was the concentration at key periods that was missed. The second goal was a big goal in this game and for me, it was 100% offside. We analyse all the games in a very mathematical way, we didn’t give too many chances away, but we gave away easy chances, and didn’t create enough for ourselves.”

Barcelona Manager Ernesto Valverde Reveals Lionel Messi Continues To Surprises Him

Featured Image

Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has admitted that he is still being surprised by Lionel Messi as he continues to produce incredible performances for the club

Lionel Messi followed up his strike against Chelsea in the Champions League on Tuesday with a double in Saturday’s 6-1 win over Girona in La Liga.

The attacker’s second of the night was a clever free kick under the Girona wall, and Valverde has paid tribute to the 30-year-old for another fine display.

“Messi? It’s hard to get used to the things he does. Just when you think you’ve seen everything from Messi, he surprises you, like his free kick, which looked easy but was very difficult to execute,” Valverde told Movistar Partidazo.

“He’s a player who has and feels responsibility towards the team, and he assumed it when we were faced with their early pressure.”

Manchester City’s Kyle Walker Happy To Finally Win His First Major Trophy

Featured Image

Manchester City defender Kyle Walker has admitted that he is “glad” to have finally earned his first major honour as a professional.

Kyle Walker played the full 90 minutes of Sunday EFL Cup final at Wembley Stadium, as the Citizens brushed aside Arsenal 3-0 to win the competition for a third time in five years.

Walker, a £53m signing from Tottenham last summer, hopes that Man City can now use their cup success to push on for more trophies, with Premier League and Champions League honours still up for grabs this term.

“It’s been a long time coming for me and I’m glad to get my first trophy,” he told Sky Sports News. “I was nervous coming into it, without a trophy win here before, but thankfully we’ve come out on top today.

“We needed to kill the game early and Sergio Aguero’s goal did that for us. We didn’t have the best of seasons last year, so it was important for us to get this trophy under our belts.”

Vinicius Junior is predicted to become the next huge star for Brazil. Real Madrid’s 17-year-old future signing is still not a regular at Flamengo, but he is already being compared to Neymar. Manchester City Beats Arsenal 3-0 To Win Carabao Cup

Featured Image

Pep Guardiola has won his first title in England with Manchester City, thrashing Arsenal 3-0 to win the Carabao Cup.

Goals from Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and David Silva cemented Manchester City’s first title of the season.

Guardiola cannot sweep the board, after losing to Wigan in the FA Cup, but can still win the UCL, with the EPL firmly in hand.

Bravo assisted the first goal, after he and Walker snuffed out an earlier attack from Wilshere and Aubameyang.

The Chile international goalie punted a ball down the middle, as Aguero nudged Mustafi off the ball and lobbed Ospina for the opener.

City controlled the proceedings and returning captain, Vincent Kompany scored the second goal.

Six minutes after the second goal, Manchester City secured their first England title with David Silva scoring the third goal.

Both sides will face off again in the PL on Thursday, as City hope to restore their 16-point advantage over United.

Antonio Conte Believes Chelsea Need To Be More Clinical After Manchester United Loss

Featured Image

Antonio Conte has admitted that his Chelsea players had to be “more clinical” after they were beaten 2-1 by Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Willian gave the Blues the lead in the first half, but Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku scored one and assisted the other as Jose Mourinho’s side took a big stride to a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Chelsea looked to have made it 2-2 when Alvaro Morata had the ball in the net, but the Spaniard’s effort was ruled out for offside moments later.

Conte has criticised his side for their defeat, adding that his players “could have done better” on Sunday afternoon.

“I think the draw was the fair result for this game. But we are talking about a defeat and that’s all,” the Italian told Sky Sports News.

“I must be honest, I didn’t see the situation, but if you’re telling me Alvaro Morata wasn’t offside, I think VAR is very important, especially in England. There are a lot of moments in the game where there are things to super-check.

“We had to be more clinical, instead we kept the game open, and the opponent made us pay. Manchester United are a great team, and we must be disappointed, because I repeat today, we could have done better.”

We Didn’t Deserve To Lose To Manchester United- Danny Drinkwater

Featured Image

Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater has insisted that his side did not deserve to lose their Premier League match with Manchester United on Sunday.

Danny Drinkwater starred alongside N’Golo Kante as the Blues, who took the lead through Willian, lost 2-1 after Romelu Lukaku’s equaliser and assist in the second half.

Drinkwater has said that the Blues deserved more from the game, but insisted that his side must look forward to their next game.

“We definitely deserved more, first half we were dominant,” the midfielder told BBC Sport. “[The] first half was more even, but we didn’t deserve to lose that match, no way.

“Obviously there are bits we can improve on, first of all we can improve on not conceding, and scoring more goals, but football can sometimes go against you and today’s one of those days.”

Jose Mourinho Hails Scott McTominay After Good Display Vs Chelsea

Featured Image

Jose Mourinho has hailed midfielder Scott McTominay as a “fantastic player” following the club’s 2-1 win over Chelsea.

Scott McTominay started alongside Paul Pogba on Sunday as the Red Devils came from behind to beat the Blues at Old Trafford.

Mourinho has backed McTominay to have a growing influence in the United team in the future, adding that the midfielder could bring goals to his team.

“He is a fantastic player, a player that is a modern midfield player, he can do everything,” the Portuguese manager told reporters after the game. “The only thing he’s not doing yet is scoring goals, which he can, the only reason he isn’t is because of the job I am giving him.

“I think in the future he can, we saw that in pre-season, bu I am very happy with him today. I don’t like to individualise, Nemanja Matic also played very well in midfield, and the defenders too, and Alexis Sanchez made a huge effort too.

“In the second half we were more confident, I think if anyone deserved the win, it was us.”

We Defeated A Very Good Chelsea Team- Jose Mourinho

Featured Image

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has said that his side beat a “very good” Chelsea team on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United ran out 2-1 winners after Romelu Lukaku, who starred in the Red Devils’ comeback, cancelled out Willian’s opener for Chelsea before teeing up Jesse Lingard for the winner.

Mourinho has praised his side for their organisation throughout the game, while admitting that the Blues had the better start to the contest.

“We beat a fantastic team, for some reason they were the champions last season, and for some reason they played well against Barcelona, and for some reason they started the game very well,” the manager told Sky Sports News.

“So, we beat a very good team, we had to be organised, everybody had to follow the game plan and have spirit. We beat a very good team. They started very well and when they hit the post, I was looking at my players, what can we do, who can I blame, but it was such a lovely move, we couldn’t stop it.

“But we found a way to play against them, and we had a good control of Eden Hazard. Willian is an amazing player and he killed us with the goal. But we had more control of the game than them, without creating lots of chances.”

SSANU, NASU, NAAT Strike: No End In Sight As FG Vows To Invoke No Work, No Pay Policy

Featured Image

Indications have emerged that there might be no end in sight in the ongoing strike embarked upon by non-teaching staff of universities.

As a result of this, there are claims that the federal government has concluded plans to invoke the no work, no pay policy despite efforts by the Senate to mediate in the industrial face-off.

Trouble For Nigerian Universities As NAAT, NASU, SSANU Begin Indefinite Strike

The non-teaching staff union comprise of three main unions including: Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non Academic Staff Union of Associated Institutions (NASU) and the National Association Academic Technologists (NAAT).

The three non-teaching staff union under the auspices of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) have been on strike since December 4, 2017 over failure by government to implement the agreement signed by both parties in September 2017 as well as the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the unions and government in February 2017.

Why Non-Academic Staff Strike In Universities May Hinder 2018 UTME – JAMB

They vowed that the ongoing strike will continue until their demands are met by the federal government.

However, TheNation reports that the Minister of Labour, Senator Chris Ngige, who doubles as the Chief Conciliator in all industrial disputes, has written to the Federal Ministry of Education to invoke the no work, no pay policy on the striking workers, describing their action as illegal.

It is also understood that the letter from Ngige might jeopardise efforts of the National Assembly to intervene and resolve the matter amicably.

The news outlet quoted a reliable source close to the minister as saying:

“Yes, the minister has written to the Ministry of Education as well as the Ministry of Health to invoke the no work, no pay policy on striking workers.

“I don’t have the details of the letter. But I can confirm to you that the letter has already been dispatched to the relevant ministries.”

When contacted, National Chairman of the Joint Action Committee of the non-teaching staff and President of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Comrade Samson Ugokwe, said the unions were yet to be informed about the existence of such a letter.

He said: “We consider that as a rumour because we have not been informed. We have official means of communication with the ministry and they have not informed us.

“We have been talking with the ministry of education. But when they inform us about the directives, we will then know how to handle it.

“For now, we will assume that such a letter does not exist because if it does exist, we will know what to do.”

#BBNaija 2018 Day 27: Housemates Thrill At The Denim Inspired Party

Featured Image

DJ Waxxy was on the deck for the fourth saturday night party in the #bbnaija house and he spinned a diverse range of Naija beats at the festival of fun with the housemates all decked in denim.

All the #bbnaija Housemates took the theme of the party to heart and put their own spin on all their looks. It was the men of the House that went the extra mile to deck themselves out. The trio of Tobi, Rico and Leo were all dressed to kill, dripping in swag.

BamBam was kitted out in a full denim dress while others chose to keep it simple and low key. Alex and Ahneeka both chose a more tom boy style look which worked perfectly for the theme.

Dance was the order of the night and dance all the #bbnaija housemates did. The usual Queen of the dance floor was out in full force but Ifu Ennada was also on fire on the night.

Rico Swavey definitely made himself the centre of attention with his funny and eccentric moves. The night also witnessed the usual couple dance offs, Tobi and Cee-C, Miracle and Nina could be seen dancing together at regular intervals.

Angel and Ahneeka however were rather chilled, spending most of the night sitting on the side line. DJ Waxxy was clearly on fire because Tobi had his shirt off towards the end and Teddy A was also making superstar moves throughout the night.

The fourth week has been a good week for the #bbnaija Housemates, as they won their Wager and their Task today as well as the Arena Games on Friday so it appears they are really on a roll.

The housemates also took the winning attitude with them into the #bbnaija House even after the party where the dancing and festivities continued.

Everyone was dancing in the mirror and in high spirits. Cee-C could be seen following Tobi around like a puppy when everyone came back into the House too, which left everyone wondering what she is up to.

Hopefully, the good vibrations that followed the party will flow well into the live shows and the new week for all the #bbnaija housemates.

#BBNaija 2018 Day 27: Housemates Get A Beauty Task Before The Saturday Night Party

Featured Image

In the spirit of the saturday night party that took place on day 27, big brother decided to throw a beauty Task in the mix for the #bbnaija Housemates prior to the dancing and partying.

The Zaron make –up challenge meant that each pair of #bbnaija housemates had only two minutes to complete each other’s make-up, they had to work as a team and do it at the same time in order to achieve this.

It was hysterical to watch Tobi and Alex clambering and laughing ad they struggled to complete the task successfully. Teddy A and Nina were also loud with their colour choices. It was all laughs during the Task and the guys really stepped up to the plate.

After watching all the #bbnaija Housemates try their best at their dual speed make-overs, Big brother seemed to have a hard time deciding who the winners were as he said they “all looked beautiful”.

He then declared that they were all winners of the Task and a reward would follow. As everyone rejoiced they were also told to take a Zaron gift box which obviously set the ladies into a state of euphoria.

Not long after big brother announced all the #bbnaija housemates as winners of the task, the glammed up Housemates were then told that there was a surprise for them in the store room.

After opening it up they found a plethora of amazing new threads to deck them out for the party night that was only a few hours ahead. There were shrieks of delight and screams of excitement as all the #bbnaija Housemates were overjoyed at their new clothes.

Even Alex, who expressed her dismay at the fact that there were never any shoes that fit her, was happy that Big brother had taken notice and fulfilled her request.

The #bbnaija Housemates are not the only thing getting beautified tonight, as everyone is doing the most to deck out the party room in an all denim inspired appearance.

The party theme is surely one that all the housemates will enjoy as denim is very much akin to simplicity and freedom, which they have loads of at the moment.

Big Brother Naija 2018 housemate, Tobi Bakre made a shocking revelation while discussing with the rest of the #bbnaija housemates that he has became sexually active at the age of 12 and contracted the gonorrhea bacterium at the age of 17.

He revealed this during a task where he and other #bbnaija housemates addressed sexually transmitted diseases and why it was important to engage in safe sex.

While making this shocking revelations, Tobi added that he started having sex at the age of 12 and after a while, he stopped having safe sex, as he was under the assumption that he was clean and safe from any type of sexually transmitted infections.

However, he made it known that during his second year in the University, one of his sexual partners, called him and told him he needed to run a test as he had infected her with some form of disease. It was only at the point that he discovered that he had gonorrhoea.

The two time head of the #bbnaija house stated that he was ashamed to let his family doctor know and resorted to quack doctors. This singular act of his, he said worsened his situation, almost to a catastrophic level.

He however made it known that he eventually opened up to his family doctor and got proper treatment for months before getting cured off it. He says since then, he has always ensured he uses protection during sex.

The other #bbnaija housates were shocked at this discovery but they nonetheless agreed on the importance of safe sex, saying it can not only prevent getting infected with untoward disease, but can also help reduce the transmission of same.

With no nominations and voting this week, big brother has afforded us an opportunity to know the #bbnaija housemates more and also see the skills they have to showcase.

Police Issues 2-Week Ultimatum To Gun Owners In Lagos To Verify, Re-Validate Licences

Featured Image

The Lagos State Police Command has issued a two-week ultimatum to individuals with ‘pump action firearm’ and other guns to submit their arms licences for verification and re-validation.

The order was contained in a statement by the command’s spokesman, SP Chike Oti, who said the exercise became necessary in view of security challenges in the country.

The statement read: “Those issued with licence to bear ‘pump action firearm’ or other repeating firearm operated by a slide action mechanism, by the Lagos State Police Command Firearms Registry(D7), are to submit their weapons and licences to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the closest police station for verification, confirmation and revalidation.”

“The move is to enable the command update its data base with information about the owners, licences, and state of the firearms. The owners of these firearms types are given two weeks’ grace period from the date of this publication (Feb. 24) to ready themselves for the exercise which will last till March 29.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, enjoins all licensed gun owners to take advantage of this revalidation programme as firearms found in the possession of anybody or group who did not participate in the exercise would be deemed as illegitimate. Such an individual or group would be arrested and charged for unlawful possession of firearm(s) in accordance with the provisions of Prohibited Firearms Act 2004, Laws of the Federation.”

Lewandowski: Madrid Yet To Make Contact

Featured Image

Robert Lewandowski has slammed suggestions that he changed his agent, because he is looking at a move to Madrid.

The Poland international has signed with super agent, Pini Zahavi, with the agent taking on one of football’s top striker.

Lewandowski has scored over 20 goals in the Bundesliga this season, achieving this milestone six out of the seven years he has spent in Germany.

His form in front of goal sees him continually linked with Real Madrid.

The 29-year-old has, however, once again moved to distance himself from the rumours and play down the importance of a change in representative, telling reporters: “No, that [agent change] has nothing to do with this speculation.

“I haven’t heard anything from Real Madrid, I don’t know whether my agent has and people will write what they want, but it doesn’t interest me.”

Ausilio: Icardi Renewal Will Happen

Featured Image

Inter Milan director, Piero Ausilio is quite confident a deal will be agreed with Mauro Icardi, as they are in touch with his agent.

The Argentina international striker still has a contract till the 2020-21 season, but his agent and wife, Wanda Nara says she has been contacted by two clubs for his signature.

Madrid are reportedly looking at Icardi as replacement for Benzema and United were linked with him in winter.

Nevertheless, Ausilio insist they have the resources to retain him.

“We are in constant contact with Icardi’s agent, aimed at the common goal of seeing if the future can be shared together and above all it’ll be done in silence,”  he told  Mediaset Premium.

“The more talk there is, the more decisions get bumped down the road.

“We want to engage in action, not words, and make sure everyone is in the right condition to give their best on the field.

“If you list all the players in the squad, you’ll realise we are not that poor.

There are many big names here, including several watching from the bench, because this team was constructed with a certain logic to target a Champions League place.”
