Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez Speaks About His Manchester City Transfer Saga

Featured Image

Riyad Mahrez has admitted that he is keen ‘to move forward’ having failed to secure a transfer to Manchester City during the January window.

After Leicester City rejected several bids from Manchester City, Riyad Mahrez opted to go on a week-long strike and the Algerian international has indicated that he does not regret the decision to spend time away from the club.

However, the playmaker has stressed that he now wants to focus his full attention on Leicester having being welcomed back into the first-team squad by his teammates.

The 27-year-old told Sky Sports News: “I was away from here because I needed some time to think, it was a difficult situation. Manchester City is a good move for everyone but it is the past.

“It is behind me. If we start talking about this it’s like coming back to the transfer window and now I’m moving forward, trying to give my best for the team. You’ll always have regrets but at that time I thought it was the best thing to do.

“It was difficult, I’ve always been in contact with the club. The club handled it very well. When the teammates and the club were behind me it was OK, it was very easy to come back here.”

Tottenham’s Son Heung-Min Sad After UEFA Champions League Loss Vs Juventus

Featured Image

Tottenham winger Son Heung-min has claimed that they “deserved more” after losing out 4-3 on aggregate to Juventus in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Son Heung-Min had put Spurs into a 3-2 lead at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday night, only for second-half goals from Gonzalo Higuain and Paulo Dybala putting the Italian giants through to the quarter-finals.

However, while admitting that he had been left feeling “sad” by his club’s elimination, Son has said that Spurs deserved to progress after ‘dominating’ for much of the game in North London.

The 25-year-old told beIN Sports: “We are sad. Everyone is disappointed. I think we deserved more than this. We dominated the game. We had lots of chances to score. I feel just sad.”

“Sometimes you score goals, and concede a goal. But we dominated the game from the start. In the first half, we had lots of chances to score. And they scored two goals in, I don’t know, five minutes. We need to accept the result but I think we deserved more than this.”

France

Paris Saint-Germain have drawn up a list of four potential managers to replace Unai Emery after failure in the Champions League yet again. Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is a firm favourite and could be tempted into leaving the Premier League in search of trophies. The champions-elect in France are keeping a close eye on Antonio Conte’s situation at Chelsea and could move quickly if he fails to see out the season at Stamford Bridge. Jose Mourinho is a long-term target, as is Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone. (L’Equipe)

PSG have identified Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante as Thiago Motta’s successor at the Parc des Princes. The 35-year-old Brazilian looks set to move on at the end of the current campaign. Antero Henrique, the club’s sporting director, has the Paris-born defensive midfielder at the top of his summer wishlist and is confident the player wants to return to Ligue 1. (Le10Sport)

And, in an attempt to shore things up defensively, PSG have put all of their eggs in one basket, with the club determined to sign Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma this summer. The French club want the Italian to replace Alphonse Areola between the sticks in a move that would bring Kevin Trapp’s career in France to an end. (Le10Sport)

Brighton, Crystal Palace and West Ham are all interested in signing Lille defender Ibrahim Amadou in the summer. The 24-year-old almost joined Palace on Deadline Day but a move could not be completed. (Le 10 Sport)

Spain

Zinedine Zidane holds his future in his own hands. The Real Madrid manager masterminded Wednesday’s win over Paris Saint-Germain to put Los Blancos into the quarter-finals of the Champions League and now, as a reward, president Florentino Perez will let him decide his own fate in June. (Marca)

Gareth Bale, a rumoured target for Manchester United and Chelsea, is no longer part of ‘Plan A’ at the Santiago Bernabeu. Instead, Zidane trusts Marco Asensio and Lucas Vazquez to carry out his instructions in the high-profile games. It could be a sign that the manager is happy to lose the Welshman when the window reopens in the summer. (AS)

Barcelona now want to keep hold of Ivan Rakitic. There had been rumours suggesting the midfielder was free to leave in the summer with Liverpool interested and the La Liga side primed to bring in Arthur to further reinforce their midfield. However, Ernesto Valverde believes there is still a place in his squad for the Croatian. (AS)

Germany

Jupp Heynckes has revealed that Bordeaux winger Malcom is on Bayern Munich’s radar this summer. The Bayern boss revealed the club’s recruitment team had been keeping a close eye on the Bordeaux attacker: “I do not know the player enough. But he’s certainly in the focus of our scouting department with Hasan Salihamidzic at the top.” (SportBild)

Jann-Fiete Arp will leave Hamburg this summer if the club drop out of the Bundesliga. Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig have shown an interest in the teenage prodigy but it is Tottenham who are frontrunners for his signature. Spurs are Arp’s second club and the team he played with on his PlayStation when he was younger. Now Mauricio Pochettino’s men have been knocked out of the Champions League their attention will turn towards summer signings. (SportBild)

Borussia Dortmund are hoping to unearth a new Robert Lewandowski and have had scouts in Poland recently keeping a close eye on matches. They returned having been impressed by Jaroslaw Niezgoda of Legia Warszawa and Przemyslaw Frankowski of Jagiellonia Białystok. The pair, both 22, have contracts with their respective clubs until 2020 and could be available for a reasonable price. (SportBild)

Italy

Juventus believed they had done enough to convince Liverpool midfielder Emre Can to join them in Turin. However, in recent weeks Real Madrid have joined the race to sign the German and this has changed things. It is why the player and his entourage have asked for more time to assess their options before making their final decision. (Gazzetta dello Sport)

Milan rivals AC and Inter are battling it out for the signature of Real Madrid playmaker Mateo Kovacic. Inter tried to re-sign the midfielder in January, initially on loan, but a deal couldn’t be struck. They eventually settled on Barcelona’s Rafinha. Now AC want to bring Kovacic back to Italy in the summer on a permanent basis and believe the lure of first-team football will be enough to convince him to join them. (Calciomercato)

AC Milan are interested in signing Porto defender Ivan Marcano when the 30-year-old’s contract expires in the summer. The versatile Spaniard can play as a centre-back as well as left-back. Porto signed him in 2014 to replace the Manchester City-bound Eliaquim Mangala. (Calciomercato)

Belgium

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet is ready to leave Anfield, with Napoli and Borussia Dortmund both considering moves for the 30-year-old. Mignolet lost his place in Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI to Loris Karius and has been vocal in recent weeks about just how unhappy he is. (La Derniere Heure)

Usher And His Wife Announce Separation, Months After Herpes Scandal

Featured Image

Popular R&B star Usher and his wife Grace Miguel have announced their separation, months after the star was forced to deny multiple allegations and lawsuits claiming he had infected a number of women with herpes – an STD.

USWeekly reported that the famous duo have been living separately for some time, and are now moving towards a formal divorce.

The couple, who married in 2015, released a statement on Tuesday, March 6, and it read:

“After much thought and consideration we have mutually decided to separate as a couple.”

“We remain deeply connected, loving friends who will continue supporting each other through the next phases of our lives.

“The enormous amount of love and respect that we have for each other will only increase as we move forward.”

It remains unknown if their separation is connected to the herpes scandal that trailed the singer in the latter part of 2017.

Last November, a lawsuit alleging the star had given a woman herpes was dismissed.

In July, Laura Helm filed a lawsuit against Usher, alleging he had unprotected sex with her and transmitted the disease.

According to The Sun, Helm was one of a number of people suing the R&B artist.

She alleged she slept with the pop icon on two separate occasions.

After the second encounter, which involved sex without a condom, she claims to have found a pea-sized bump on her vagina and a similar lump on her cheek, reported TMZ.

The court filings also detailed Usher’s allegedly bizarre behaviour including having showers before and after sex.

Also in November, Ms Miguel had reacted to Usher’s herpes accusers, saying that she and her husband are “living their lives”.

TMZ also reported the couple were still together as recently as December but had not been pictured together in recent months.

Maryam Sanda: Court Grants Bail To Woman Who Allegedly Stabbed Husband To Death

A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to Mrs Maryam Sanda, who was alleged to have killed her husband, Bilyamin Bello, son of former PDP National Chairman, Mohammed Bello.

Sanda was remanded in Suleja Prisons on November 24, 2017, for allegedly killing her husband at his Maitama home in Abuja, by allegedly stabbing him several times based on allegations of infidelity after seeing a text message on his phone.

Maryam covered her face a with green scarf to prevent being photographed by the media.

He was later rushed to the hospital where he eventually died.

The ruling judge, Justice Yusuf Halilu, on Wednesday granted the defendant bail on health grounds – as she is ill and pregnant and requires medical attention – following a fresh application for bail argued by her counsel, Mr. Joseph Daudu (SAN), having denied her bail on three previous occasions.

The judge had at the last sitting adjourned trial to March 19 for definite hearing after dismissing Maryam’s last bail application of February 6.

However, Daudu again approached the court with a fresh bail application and asked for an early date to move it, which was opposed by counsel to the prosecution, CSP James Idachaba.

But this time, Justice Halilu said the court was satisfied with the health reasons canvassed for Maryam, who is said to be over three months pregnant and also asthmatic.

The judge held that the police were not able to counter the claims that the prisons’ health facilities could not take care of Maryam’s conditions.

Part of the conditions attached to the bail included a requirement that the defendant provided two sureties who must deposit their title of landed property ownership in Abuja.

Maryam’s father was also required to enter into an undertaking to always provide her in court throughout the trial.

Featured Image

The Jigawa State Government has disclosed that meningitis has killed 15 persons as 51 suspected cases were recorded in 10 local government areas of the state.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Abba Zakari, confirmed this to newsmen in Dutse on Wednesday, March 7.

The commissioner also said that 51 suspected cases of Cerebro Spinal Meningitis (CSM) had so far reported to the ministry since November 2017.

He said: “For instance, in Birninkudu we had two cases with one death; in Gagarawa one case but no death; in Jahun seven cases but no death.

“Malam Madori 10 cases with four deaths, in Ringim one case but no death; in Miga one case but no death; in Babura 11 cases but no death; in Dutse one case but no death.

“Maigatari recorded three cases but no death, and in Taura we had 10 cases and five deaths. And out of the 51 suspected cases, 10 were confirmed as meningitis, about 44 were not meningitis as it was only 10 that were confirmed meningitis. But out of 51, we lost around 14 of them, not nine as reported by some of the media.

“So, it is 51 suspected cases, 10 confirmed and 15 mortalities, and it cut across several local government areas of the state.’’

The commissioner pointed out that the state was within the meningitis belt of the African region, where meningitis epidemic is being recorded between every five and 10 years.

“You know Jigawa state falls within what is called meningitis belt of the African region and then from time to time you have the epidemic of meningitis.

“And incidentally it happens in a circle almost like every five to 10 years you have one or two epidemics.

“Now in Jigawa state, since November 2017, we have about 51 suspected cases of meningitis, and what we mean by suspected cases of meningitis is that people are showing some signs and symptoms that look like meningitis.

“But you cannot really say they have meningitis until you take what is called cerebrum spinal fluid and look at it under the microscope, if you can see the bacteria there then you can say that this is meningitis,’’ the commissioner explained.

Independence Day Bombing: Charles Okah Sentenced To Life Imprisonment

Featured Image

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Wednesday sentenced Charles Okah and his co-defendant, Obi Nwabueze, to life imprisonment for their role in the 2010 Independence Day bombing that left at least 12 people dead in Abuja.

Okah, a former militant leader, and the second defendant, Nwabueze, were convicted of masterminding the bomb blast which occurred in Abuja on October 1, 2010 and an earlier bombing in Warri, Delta State, on March 15 of the same year.

The two convicts were said to have planned the attacks with Charles’ elder brother, Mr. Henry Okah, the leader of the defunct Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta, who had been convicted of the same offences and sentenced to 24 years’ imprisonment by a South African court in 2013.

In a 4 hour, 30 minutes judgment, Justice Gabriel Kolawole, ruled that the prosecution proved the charges preferred against Charles and Nwabueze beyond reasonable doubt.

The judge noted that the second defendant, Nwabueze, particularly made himself available to run illegal errands for Henry Okah who provided N1.2m used to purchase five fairly used cars deployed for the Warri blast while Charles Okah, provided the sum of N2m used for the purchase of the four cars deployed for the Independence Day blast in Abuja.

Consequently, they were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment as prescribed Sections 15(1) and (2) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004, under which they were charged.

#BBNaija 2018 Day 38: Biggie Explains The Tasks And Challenges

Featured Image

With the new week almost halfway gone, Big brother decided to have a chatwith the #bbnaija Housemates about their new Task and he let them in on a number of interesting information regarding rising tensions.

The sixth week is all about conservation and environmental awareness and as a result of this, Biggie decided to ask about the topic up for debate on day 39 – Global Warming.

While some of the #bbnaija housemates had very interesting stances like self-proclaimed conspiracy theorist Teddy A, others like Lolu and Miracle appeared to be extremely passionate and knowledgeable on the topic.

It was however shocking to realise that many of the #bbnaija Housemates had no clue what global warming even was. A good example was both Nina and Alex, who blatantly admitted that they had never even thought about it.

Many of the #bbnaija Housemates used Biggie’s talk about the Task as a vehicle to air their other frustrations. Of course there was Cee-C and Alex venting about one another and then of course Nina, who went on ranting about her petty fight with Miracle over food.

Leo on his part seemed not to be in high spirits at all, as he made it known that he was completely exhausted from the Heritage bank Task already and it has basically only just begun.

His team was having serious difficulty completing the treasure hunt at this stage, but Anto was out to save the day for her team. BamBam also told Biggie that she feels an immense friction in the #bbnaija House and that not many of the Housemates aside from Rico and Teddy A are even happy wiith her Head of House win.

Another topic that was discussed during the day’s diary sessions was the water rationing and how some of the #bbnaija Housemates had not taken to it very well.

Anto shared her shock at the fact that she grew up in America and she happened to be used to this while her fellow #bbnaija Housemates, who had been brought up in Nigeria were the ones who had the biggest issues with it.

All in all though it seems that each day, the #bbnaija Housemates are adapting and growing used to this. Many of them admitting that this challenge has really made them more conscious about wasting water and how littler of it you need to live.

REVIEW: MTV Shuga Season 6 Packs Education, Family Values and Life Lessons In One Entertaining Punch

The first episode of MTV Shuga Season 6 aired on Tuesday, March 6th on MTV Base and we’re yet to get over just how much the season has to offer beyond the fantastic entertainment experience. From lessons on relationship, to family planning, safe sex, teenage pregnancy, and major life issues like child marriage, bullying, and lots more.

As with past MTV Shuga productions, every member of cast gave a stellar performance, giving the show a solid, relatable and realistic feel.

We got introduced to some very interesting characters like Mrs Olotu, played by Nollywood star Funlola Aofiyebi, the grumpy old teacher who insists on strictly following the school curriculum with students, without touching on ‘delicate’ issues such as  sex education, relationships and contraceptives.

Another noteworthy part of the show is the cultural and religious diversity. Hadiza, a teenage mother from Northern Nigeria is struggling to adjust to life in secondary school in Lagos, while at the same time, trying her best to take care of a baby, with some help from her mom, both in hiding away from family in Kano.

Bullying is one sad phenomenon that is very common amongst secondary school students in Nigeria, though not taken too seriously by many adults in our society. On MTV Shuga Naija, we get to see how bullying plays out in a typical school setting with the introduction of a new female clique. Hopefully, viewers will get to understand the dynamics and learn the best ways to help teenagers tackle bullying during the course of the season.

From the first episode, one can see that , MTV Shuga will bring with it, not only high value comedy and entertainment, great acting and dialogue, crisp cinematography and very useful information that everybody, including parents, teens and young adults can learn from.

MTV Shuga Naija is produced by award-winning writer/filmmaker Chris Ihidero and  Emma Uduma, while Tolulope Ajayi, Ishaya Bako and Tope Oshin directed the new season’s episodes.

If you missed the first episode, you can still watch it here.

REVEALED: Each Nigerian Senator Gets N13.5 Million Monthly – Aside Salaries

Featured Image

Mr Shehu Sani, a Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has revealed that he and his colleagues receive N13.5 million monthly as running cost.

Shehu brought this revelation to light in an interview he granted THENEWS magazine which was made available online on Wednesday by Sahara Reporters.

“I think what we can say is that the running cost of a senator is N13.5 million every month,” the senator said in response to the question on alleged bogus salaries and allowances of Nigerian lawmakers.

He added that the running cost was in addition to over N700,000 monthly consolidated salary and allowances of each senator.

According to him, while there is no specific instruction on what the fund should be used for, lawmakers must provide receipts to back up their expenses from the running costs.  He added that the running cost is in addition to funds earmarked for each senator for constituency projects.

He continued: “But what I am saying is that that money (N13.5 million per month) must be receipted for what you do with it. But what you are given to go and spend without any accountability is N750,000.00.

“The constituency project itself is given on a zonal basis and almost every Senator will go with a constituency fund of about N200 million, but it is not the cash that is given to you.

“You will be told that you have N200 million with an agency of government for which you will now submit projects equivalent to that amount. And it is that agency of government that will go and do those projects for you.

“Now, the corruption comes when the projects are not done and the money is taken. But right now, it is difficult to do that because NGOs and transparency groups have come into it. They track every allocation made to you and where they are being used.

“So, it’s becoming difficult for what used to happen in the past to happen now.

“But I can tell you that I would love a situation where we do away with running costs, constituency projects and leaves senators and members of House of Reps with salaries.

‘And also, the public should be informed that nobody should come to any senator’s house asking for any kobo. That also would be helpful.

“There are issues that we need to understand. First, I don’t believe that members of the National or even state assemblies should be involved in carrying out what is called constituency projects.

“When people are elected into the National Assembly, they should just be involved in law making, raising motions, bills and also performing oversight functions. But we live in a society where people cannot differentiate between the legislators and the executive.

“When the people come to you, they want you to build roads, dig boreholes, build hospitals, schools, give money, pay school fees for them. Now, if we have a society in which people will stop asking legislators to do those things, then there is no need (for the allowances) But funny enough, if you are very active in the National Assembly in making laws and you don’t embark on projects in your constituency, you cannot in any way be appreciated by the people you are there to serve because the electorates in United States are different from the electorates in the United States and Africa.

“We live in an underdeveloped society with a lot of poverty, misery and wants. What people want is for you to address those basic fundamental issues that affects their lives.

“If we can be done with that, it would be okay. Now, you are talking of bogus salaries and bogus allowances – there are three steps you need to consider – the first has to do with the fact when you represent the people, expectations arose from your immediate and the larger constituencies.

“But I agree with you that the salaries and allowances of lawmakers should not be discreet, but what is discreet about it when you can write to Resource and Fiscal Mobilization Commission to get everything about what a senator earns?

“The only money you are not expected to account for is your salary and the salary of a senator is about N750, 000.00 per month. The other one, the running cost of office must be accounted for. You must provide a receipt for every expense you make.”

NYSC: Senate Rejects Bill Seeking Skirt For Female Corps Members

Featured Image

The Senate on Wednesday, March 7, rejected a bill seeking to amend the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Act to allow the uniform worn by corps members to accommodate their religious belief.

Literally, the bill, which seeks to change the prescribed uniforms for female Corps members from trousers to skirt among others, failed to scale second reading at the Senate yesterday.

If it had been passed, participants would have been allowed to wear skirt or hijab, among others.

Soliciting support of his colleagues, Emmanuel Bwacha (Taraba-PDP) said the amendment was meant to give corps members the liberty of digressing from the rigid adherence to the NYSC uniform specification.

He said: “This particular amendment especially in section 13 and 16 of the principal act is to achieve the following objectives; increase the penalty for offences contained in the Act to make such fines reflect the present value of the naira. To ensure that regulations made by the directorate prescribing drills and uniform for exercise do not violate certain religious practices.

“The uniform adopted for corps members have become a basis for controversy between the directorate and the public. In fact, some corps members drop out of service because of conflict they’ve witnessed. The major bone of contention is that some of the drills and uniform contravene the religious belief of corps members and invariably denying them right of religion, thought and conscience.”

The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who took over from Bukola Saraki in presiding over the plenary called the attention of Mr. Bwacha to the provisions of Section 9 (2) of the Constitution.

“Section 9 (2) of the Constitution says that for you to amend the Constitution, it has to pass through the senate and the state assemblies. We have to follow the same process as if we are amending the Constitution. What we are trying to do here is like to amend the NYSC Act. I understand your position, we have to follow that process.”

However, in their separate contributions, most lawmakers opposed the bill, saying it is not only untimely but unnecessary especially now that the country is faced with serious economic and security challenges.

When Ekweremadu placed the question on voice vote, the bill could not sail through Second Reading as it was rejected by legislators.
