His words: “It’s been all joy and blessings for me since I started my journey to being the man I dreamt to be. Though I had a lot hurdles and setbacks, I kept moving because I was certain of what I had inside of me,” the rapper said.

“Today is another special day, marking the beginning of another special year in my life and I also have the privilege of owning a TV channel that would change the face of entertainment in Africa.”

“As one of the first African entrepreneurs to own a channel, I am giving out 100 decoders (PLAY TV) to the first 100 people to get to PLAY TV’s premise today. Each decoder comes with a fully paid one-year subscription to say thank you for standing by me. Thank you for your love and support. We shall celebrate more greatness.”

On another post, Olamide further dedicated the television station to his deceased parents and son, Batifèori Maximiliano Adedeji.

He said: “This is also for the day ones who’s been supporting ruthlessly through the thick and thin, those who believed in me when I didn’t even have an idea how far I’d go on this journey.

“This is also a harbinger for every ghetto kid that you can be anything and achieve anything long as you put your mind to it and work toward it.

“Let’s all welcome our brand new baby ‘VOTS (voice of the street)’ our television, my television, your television.”

Olamide had earlier declared that Real Madrid star, Cristiano Ronaldo is the most hardworking player in the history of football.

To show his absolute love for the Real Madrid player, Olamide released a song titled Ronaldo.

10,000 Nigerians To Get Jobs As Buhari Commissions N50B Sugar Factory

Featured Image

President Muhammadu Buhari On Thursday commissioned the N50 billion Sunti Golden Sugar Estate which he said will employ 10,000 people directly.

Speaking in Sunti in Mokwa local government area on Thursday, Buhari said coming of the sugar factory was timely, as Nigeria has made her way out of recession and “we have showed considerable progress.”

He further disclosed that the magnitude of investment in the sugar estate is a clear manifestation that the policies on economic diversification  of the government is attracting the right kind of support and engagement.

The president called on private investors in the country to partner with the government in creating investment opportunities.

He said, “We are looking inward to our natural endowment and deposit. We are focusing on agriculture and other non oil sectors.

“The mill, as I was told, cost the company N50bn, and it’s expected to produce 100,000 metric tons of sugar yearly.

“It will provide direct employment for about 10,000 people yearly, and impact up to 50,000 people indirectly, including 3,000 small-scale out growers.

“While commending the company for creating job opportunities for Nigerians, the President said, “Flour Mills has shown commitment to Nigeria all through the good times and bad times.”

Buhari also reiterated the benefits and economic possibilities of the River Niger, saying, “It has been long overlooked; it is time to explore and harness the benefits for commerce and investment.”

He assured Nigerians that his administration would continue to create enabling business environment and improve security and infrastructure across the nation.

2018 UTME: JAMB Reveals What Will Happen To Candidates Who Miss Exam

Featured Image

The Registrar, Joint Admissions, and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede, on Thursday said that there will be no rescheduling of the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Exam (UTME) for any student like it did last year.

He said that reports have also indicated that some parents had allegedly negotiated with some private coordinators who assured them of success at all cost during the UTME.

JAMB Bars Candidates With Biometric Identification Issues From Writing UTME

Oyolede said candidates whose thumbs were not recognised for verification by the biometric machines, and that such candidates might have registered illegally.

He disclosed said that the board had arrested some operators of illegal UTME registration centres set up to defraud applicants.

2018 UTME Results Are Ready, Says JAMB | Here’s How To Check Yours

“They were using something they call team viewer which will definitely give biometric problem because these candidates were not physically captured at the authentic centre.

“We would not be held responsible for that and there won’t be any form of rescheduling for anybody, I did that last year out of ignorance.’’

The registrar described the general conduct of the UTME nationwide as highly successful and attributed the success to use of improved modern technology which has prevented most illegal acts people were used to.

The registrar made the remarks at the board’s headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, when a suspected impersonator arrested by officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps was paraded for attempting to write the UTME for his brother.

According to the civil defence corps officials, the mother of the boy, who claimed to be a prophet, directed the boy to sit the examination for his brother.

The boy was arrested at the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, Air Mas Computer Centre Madalla in Niger.

Oloyede said,“ Parents need to disassociate themselves from this type of shameful attitude.

“It is against any type of parenting that you want to inculcate the spirit of deceit into your children; I think even bad people do not want to be succeeded by bad people.

“The woman should have just said she is a mother and not that she is a prophet; you are doing something shameful, do not bring God into it at all.

“No religion would allow for a mother to tell one of her sons to go and write exams for the other.

“If someone is unfortunate to be corrupt, he or she should ask God to terminate it at his own level, but conscious efforts at transmitting that culture to the next generation is very painful.’’

The registrar also frowned at those hiding behind religion to commit crimes including examination malpractice.

“One said he is a Catholic priest; there’s another one from Abia and now, this mother said she’s a prophet, people in Nigeria just use religion to exploit others.

“They go to churches, establish centres in the name of helping the church only to use them for their selfish purposes,’’ he said.

He explained that the board was able to detect, through the use of technology, that most of the cabling issues at CBT centres, were pre-arranged.

“Their intentions are to help people not knowing that we now have a device that monitors every computer system in every centre, via a code.“We are able to detect now, people who are able to write the exams, answering 180 questions in just 12 minutes.

“We also have three to four persons who wrote the examinations on the same computer at a session not knowing we have the identity of every computer.’’

The Registrar stated that it was in view of the latest developments that the board could not release some results on Wednesday.

Oloyede disclosed that the board had identified 14 centres across the country involved in malpractice and assured that the operators would be prosecuted.

NAN also reports that the ongoing 2018 UTME, which commenced on March 9, is scheduled to end on Saturday, March 17.

Israel Court Suspends Plan To Deport Thousands Of African Migrants

Featured Image

Israel’s Supreme Court on Thursday, March 15, suspended a controversial government plan to deport thousands of Eritrean and Sudanese migrants in response to a challenge from those opposed to the move.

The court said in its decision the state was given until March 26 to provide further information and the suspension on deporting them to a third country would remain in place until then.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in January announced implementation of the programme to remove migrants who entered illegally, giving them a choice between leaving voluntarily or facing indefinite imprisonment with eventual forced expulsion.

According to interior ministry figures, there are currently some 42,000 African migrants in Israel, half of them children, women or men with families, who are not facing immediate deportation.

As the migrants could face danger or imprisonment if returned to their homelands, Israel is offering to relocate them to an unnamed African country, which deportees and aid workers say is Rwanda or Uganda.

Migrants began entering Israel through what was then a porous Egyptian border in 2007. The border has since been strengthened, all but ending illegal crossings.

Israel’s deportation or imprisonment plan has drawn criticism from the United Nations refugee agency as well as from some Israelis and rights activists.

“Nick hasn’t had any previous experience with us so we need to find out about him if we lose one of our senior goalkeepers. His form justifies coming in that mix.”

With Manchester United unhappy at Jose Mourinho’s claims the club need to spend more money, the Portuguese manager could be on his way to Paris Saint-Germain. (AS)

Andres Iniesta has admitted his Barcelona future is uncertain. “Before April 30 I have to make the decision whether I’m still in Barcelona or I’m going to China. I have to assess what is best for me and for the club,” he told reporters after Wednesday’s Champions League win over Chelsea.

“It is a decision that I will communicate to the club first and then you will find out. I will make a decision before April 30.” (Sport)

Spal goalkeeper Alex Meret has admitted Napoli transfer rumours are flattering, but says he’s focusing on his current side. The 20-year-old is on loan with Spal from Udinese and there have been reports that the Partenopei could make his parent club an offer for him in the summer.

“News and certain rumours have arrived,” Meret said. “I’m pleased to be considered, especially by such an important club. Right now, I’m only thinking about Spal, we’ll see what the future will be.” (Corriere dello Sport)

Eintracht Frankfurt forward Kevin-Prince Boateng admits he would find it hard to turn down a return to AC Milan, even if it is unlikely.

Would I go back? Of course! I’d go back to Milan right away, I could never say no,” he said. “At the same time, though, I like being realistic and I know it’s almost impossible.” (Tuttomercatoweb)

Vitesse would like to keep on-loan Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount for another year, but the 19-year-old’s future is in the hands of his parent club. (VI)

Mitchell Weiser is an option for Bayer Leverkusen, although there is also interest from England, Italy and other German clubs. The 23-year-old midfielder would cost €12m. (Kicker)

Eden Hazard Has To Do More- Roy Keane

Featured Image

Roy Keane has claimed that Chelsea’s Eden Hazard is “way behind” the likes of Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

Eden Hazard struggled to make an impression as Chelsea bowed out of the Champions League in the round of 16 courtesy of a 4-1 aggregate defeat to Barcelona.

Hazard is widely regarded as one of the best players in the Premier League, but Keane has said that the Belgium international has “too many off days when he’s just not up to it”.

“He can be very, very good but to me there are just too many off days where he’s just not up to it. If you’re trying to compare him to Messi – he’s way behind him,” Hazard told ITV Sport.

“Messi and Ronaldo have been doing it year after year. They always seem to be fit. They play 50 or 60 games a season and they produce week in, week out. These other players that we are talking about don’t.”

Everton Wrong To Announce Extent Of Gylfi Sigurdsson Injury- Sam Allardyce

Featured Image

Everton manager Sam Allardyce has questioned the club’s announcement regarding a knee injury sustained by playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Earlier this week, Everton claimed that Gylfi Sigurdsson was likely to be sidelined for six to eight weeks after picking up the problem in last weekend’s victory over Brighton

However, Allardyce has criticised the decision to make an early assessment over the injury, claiming that the Toffees must wait until the issue settles down before determining whether the Icelandic international will return before the end of the season.

At a press conference, Allardyce told reporters: “Whoever gave that statement out is going to get a right telling off because you cannot predict a length of injury in its entirety. You have people who heal quicker. We’ve got a highly qualified medical staff and equipment to try and speed up any injury.

“I’ve always felt it’s the wrong thing to do, to tag an injury for its time limits because people recover quicker than others.

“For me, it’s how the injury is in the next two weeks. When you sustain a knee injury, there’s a settling down period immediately afterwards and then it’s how quickly the player recovers.”

Report: Manchester United Board Worried Over Jose Mourinho

Featured Image

Senior members of the Manchester United board are allegedly “worried” about the club’s future under manager Jose Mourinho and are ‘questioning whether he is the right man’ to continue on at the club

Manchester United shock exit from the Champions League at the hands of Sevilla on Tuesday night means that the FA Cup remains the side’s sole chance at silverware this season, with only the runners-up spot up for grabs in the league.

Speaking after the Champions League exit, Mourinho claimed that the defeat was “nothing new” for United and also referenced previous times that he had ousted the club from the competition as an opposition manager.

Mourinho is also alleged to have not admonished his players after the game, instead visiting the Sevilla dressing room to congratulate them.

According to the Daily Mail, Mourinho’s demeanour coupled with United’s results and performances this season have left some boardroom members “uncomfortable” with the club’s direction of travel.

The newspaper says that senior figures are concerned by “the style of football being played by the Portuguese coach and fear that it could be several years before his team are serious contenders for the Premier League title”

One senior source is quoted as saying: “Jose is not the manager we thought he was. We are worried. We know the fans hate the football, and we won’t win the league for three or four years. He’s also too insecure and gets involved in things away from the football.”

Antonio Conte Insists Chelsea Should Have Had A Penalty Vs Barcelona

Featured Image

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has suggested that they could have progressed past Barcelona in the Champions League had they been awarded a penalty for a foul on Marcos Alonso.

With Chelsea 2-0 down, Marcos Alonso was put through on goal before going to ground under the attention of Gerard Pique, only for the referee to wave play on at Camp Nou.

Barcelona quickly netted a third goal to effectively wrap up victory, but Conte feels that luck was not on the Blues’ side at the home of the Catalan giants.

At a press conference, the 48-year-old told reporters: “I think we were a bit unlucky, if you consider that, over the two legs, we showed we can play in both ways. For sure, the first leg, defensively we were more compact. More compact. If you remember, only after our mistake did they score the goal. Tonight they scored three times but I think we didn’t deserve this type of result.

“We were a bit unlucky because we created many chances to score. I think there was a penalty on Alonso at the start of the second half. If you make it 2-1, you can put a bit of pressure on Barcelona. At the end, I repeat, I must be pleased with the commitment of my players. I saw great work from my Players

NMA Issues 21-Day Ultimatum To Edo State Govt

Featured Image

The Edo State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) on Wednesday issued a 21-day ultimatum to the state government to address issues of health facilities and general state of the sector.

The association also demanded that the state government improve staff welfare in the state owned health institutions or face industrial action in the health sector, which it said, would include doctors in state and federal hospitals.

These disclosures were made in a statement issued by the Chairman and Secretary of the association, Emmanuel Osaigbovo and Harry Omokhua.

According to the statement, the body alleged that the state government has not responded to their requests for improved services and facilities in the health sector.

They are, therefore, requesting that the state government address the infrastructure decay in the sector and increase the number of health personnel, especially doctors.

The body also lamented that most doctors who were employed in 2012 had left the state government employ due to poor motivation.

They said the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) and the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital have over 300 consultants while the State Hospitals Management Board has less than 46 consultants and 120 doctors compared to over 700 in the federal hospitals.

However, in his reaction to this, the Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy to Governor Godwin Obaseki, Crusoe Osagie said:

“The Edo State Government is adopting a holistic approach to the health sector reforms in the state.

“We urge the health professionals to exercise some patience as hasty efforts cannot produce the high standard of healthcare, which the Obaseki government has envisioned for Edo people. Plans have been made and partners are being sourced and in good time, the results will manifest.”

#BBNaija 2018 Day 45: Biggie’s Twists And Turns

Featured Image

Anyone will be naive to think that the The Big Brother House was made of just timber, bricks, cement and cameras; as even the #bbnaija housemates know that there is much more to the house.

Ranging from emotion, plastered with drama and unexpected romance, the #bbnaija house offers so much more simply because the Housemates go through the most drastic of changes, fuelled by the most hectic of emotions.

However, Big Brother seems to always know just what to say in order to trigger the desired reactions amongst the #bbnaija housemates. That among other things is why he is referred to as the ‘all seeing’, because he sees all the actions of the housemates.

Furthermore, Big brother acts like an actual Big Brother that acts as mediator between unruly siblings amd also as an emotional anchor to loved ones dealing with lost love and voice of reason when there seems to be a lack of clear judgement.

Big Brother has been able all these roles and much more. Many attribute Nina’s ability to open up and shed a few tears to her pairing with Teddy A to the antics of Biggie. It seems Biggie has slowly elevated Nina’s spirits and directly contributed to her new found confidence.

Looking back, he was able to trigger Dee-One’s emotional breakdown sourced from the loss of his mentor, Vandora’s ‘sobathon’ fuelled by being overwhelmed and missing her family as well as Ifu Ennada’s emotional break down, caused by her loneliness and how perpendicular she was while the other #bbnaija Housemates remained parallel.

Furthermore, Big brother always manages to get exactly what he wants out of the Housemates, be it a smile or tears in the diary room. There has been a couple of instances where the #bbnaija Housemates carried their sorrows and frustrations into the diary room and came out looking and feeling rather light-hearted.

Although one of the most important elements of the #bbnaija House, the Diary Room has a life of its own, with an energy so contagious that the Housemates can’t help but match up and exude their own.

Sometimes however, the #bbnaija housemates seem to overdo it, due to the fact that they’re almost constantly engaged in ego wars with other Housemates that have equally overbearing personalities.

#BBNaija 2018 Day 45: Housemates Work And Play

Featured Image

With the Nokia Task in full swing, the #bbnaija Housemates seem to be taking the preparation for the task in their usual manner, but they however decided to have some drinks in the mix of it all.

Tobi and Cee-C spent most of the evening after the Diary sessions chilling together, Tobi was highly perturbed that he has not had a Diary session and he also confronted Cee-C about her somewhat flirtatious behaviour with Rico Swavey.

It was clearly obvious that he was jealous and not in the best of moods. That’s the price he had to pay for failing to follow big brother’s rules in the #bbnaija house.

After the Diary sessions were over, all the #bbnaija Housemates spent the rest of the evening preparing for their Nokia Task. This helped Alex get her mind off of Leo and the alcohol definitely helped to lighten the mood in the #bbnaija House.

Rico swavey and Alex also seemed to be bonding and getting closer. It seemed like he was concerned about how fragile she has been of late, and he made that much known to her. He also made attempts to cheer her up and snap her out of the sulking mood she jas been of late.

The rest of the night saw many of the resident couples of the #bbnaija housemate getting close and spending time in each others arms. From BamBam and Teddy A getting into bed early as well as the on again off again relationship between Lolu and Anto.

Miracle and Nina were also being very loved up and cute on the couch, sharing drinks and jokes.

Overall, things began to wind down early in the #bbnaija House on day 44 as every single one of the #bbnaija housemate appeared tired, exhausted and in need of rest.

Are These The Real Reasons Buhari Won’t Let Go Of IGP Ibrahim Idris?

Are These The Real Reasons Buhari Won’t Let Go Of IGP Ibrahim Idris? – Mayowa Tijani

Some context first: In June 2016, Solomon Arase, the former inspector general of police (IGP), retired from the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60. He was the only “senior officer” retained from the previous administration for as long as 13 months.

This piece was written by Mayowa Tijani and was first published on TheCable. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

Arase may not have been the best police officer in Nigeria’s history, but Saint Ibrahim Idris, the current IGP and his litany of unforced errors make Arase look so good, you could take him for the best we’ve had. Before Arase’s exit, the compass was already pointing in the way of one Ibrahim Idris, who was a commissioner of police only a few months ago.

According to his records, Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, was the commissioner of police, who supervised the security apparatus for the controversial Kano presidential election of 2015, where President Muhammadu Buhari got nearly two million votes. After the elections, Idris was promoted to assistant inspector general (AIG), and in a few months, he was named the acting inspector general of police to take over from Arase.

As expected, this move angered his superior, who had been AIGs and DIGs (deputy inspector generals of police) for years, before Idris even became a commissioner. The convention took its course, about 30 AIGs and a handful of DIGs were forced to retire. Their experience, their service, their sacrifice, and their aspirations to the office of the IGP was let down the drain.

Though the controversy was in the brewery, Nigerians expected a lot from the new IGP, who had massive experience from numerous foreign missions. In his first press briefing as the announced IGP, Idris gave a ray of hope and promised the security of life and property.

“That is the issue of integrity and accountability, issue of respect for diversity, issue of compassion, issues of ensuring that our streets, our neighbourhoods, our communities remain safe,” Idris had promised.

“We are going to do everything possible to ensure that we provide the best service to this country,” he added.

As the substansive IGP, Idris had committed many sins, which led me to conclude that he was going to be one of the major men to ensure President Buhari does not get a second term. In February, I argued that there is hardly “anyone in this dispensation that has angered the electorate as much as Ibrahim Idris, the inspector general of police, and his men have done in the past year”.

Under his leadership, the Nigeria Police Force was ranked the worst in the world by the World Internal Security and Police Index (WISPI) for 2016. Rather than take time out to seek improvement, Idris and his men said they were the best in Africa. In the same breath, the IGP and his men paid lip service to the promise to reform the NPF, following citizen action on the ENDSARS movement.

With Idris at the helm, there has also been a disturbing increase in the arrest of journalists and bloggers in Nigeria. His reign has been a threat to free speech for journalists. This Idris is committing so many atrocities in the name of maintaining law and order, while the places in need of law and order are becoming national atrocities.

Global rankings for press freedom has gotten worse under Buhari and this IGP. Nigeria now sits at 122 of 180 countries surveyed, falling from 111 under former president Goodluck Jonathan and ex-IGP, Solomon Arase.

In the wake of the Benue massacre, President Muhammadu Buhari ordered Idris to relocate to Benue and ensure law and order in the land. Rather than do this, Idris and his men got into a verbal bout with Samuel Ortom, the Benue state governor. Jimoh Moshood, the police spokesperson, described the governor of Benue state as a drowning man. Such insensitivity. As always, nothing happened from Idris’ end.

The house of representatives passed a voted of no confidence on the IGP, calling on the president to replace him with a professional officer, seeing as “it is obvious the IGP is incapable of his job”. But the president did not blink an eye.

Finally, the president himself gets to visit Benue and realise that the IGP was not only being disrespectful to citizens he swore and promised to protect, but was being disrespectful to the commander-in-chief of the armed forces and the grand commander of the federal republic, Muhammadu Buhari, who appointed him to the tall office.

In his own admission, Buhari said “I’m not aware that the IG did not spend 24 hours in the state as directed by me, I am getting to know in this meeting”. Apparently, the IGP disobeyed the president, but his head may not roll.

Nigerians have expressed reservations, the national assembly has said a thing or two against the IGP, the president himself has seen his own orders being flouted by this IGP, and most importantly, fear and insecurity in the country are on the rise, and the police under Idris seem clueless. What other reason does the President need to take drastic steps on Idris and the police force?

Did IGP Idris offer Buhari a favour during the 2015 elections in Kano? Is there a 2019 outlook to this? Or like Femi Adesina, the presidential spokesman said, Idris sins are still “in the realm of allegations?” Well, his sins may be in the realm of allegations, but the death of 73 people in Benue is not in the realm of allegations, and more in other parts of the country are not in the real of allegations. The arrest and detention of journalists is not in the realm of allegations, the rising insecurity in Nigeria is in the realm of reality, and like Buhari said, Nigerians have no other home but Nigeria, so we have to make it work.

Mr. President, Nigeria is counting on you.

As From April, NERC Will Enforce New Metering Rule On Nigerians

Featured Image

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has said that as from April 3, 2018, it will commence the enforcement of its recently unveiled Meter Asset Provider Regulations, 2018 on Nigerian power consumers – a policy that seeks to bridge the widening metering gap in the electricity supply industry.

In its MAPR 2018, with Regulation No. NERC-R-112, which was released by the regulator and sighted by The Punch in Abuja on Wednesday, NERC said:

“These regulations shall come into effect on the 8th day of March, 2018. The provisions of these regulations shall be enforced by the commission from the 3rd day of April, 2018.”

While power consumers have welcomed the new policy, describing it as a panacea for meter unavailability, it is understood that the country’s metering gap had increased to about 4.74 million.

On Monday, the NERC had made a declaration that it no longer had the sole responsibility of providing meters to electricity consumers.

However, the commission also announced the introduction of a new regulation that brought another class of operators in the power sector called Meter Asset Providers.

The Commissioner, Legal, Licensing and Compliance, NERC, Dafe Akpeneye, had explained that the MAPs would now take up the duty of providing meters to customers, among other functions.

Explaining further on the objectives of the MAPR 2018, the commission stated that the main objective of the regulations was to provide standard rules to encourage the development of independent and competitive meter services in the electricity supply industry and eliminate estimated billing.

Other objectives are to attract private investments to the provision of metering services, close the metering gap through accelerated meter rollout, and enhance revenue assurance in the power sector.

Abduction: Buhari Claims He Handled Dapchi Better Than Jonathan Did On Chibok

Featured Image

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday claimed that his administration’s response to the February 19 abduction of 110 students of Government Girls’ Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State was better than the response of the immediate past Goodluck Jonathan administration to a similar abduction in Chibok, Borno State.

Speaking at a town hall meeting with traditional/community leaders and other stakeholders in Damaturu, Yobe State as part of activities lined up for his official visit to the state, Buhari said while the Federal Government under his watch swung into action immediately after the abduction, the last administration looked the other way when the Chibok girls were abducted in 2014.

The president said the commitment displayed by his administration had led to the rescue of more than 100 Chibok girls taken into captivity before he assumed office.

His words: “The Federal Government’s response to the unfortunate abduction of the school girls is a clear departure from the insensitivity of the past administration which looked the other way while the Chibok girls were taken away in 2014 and held in captivity for over three years.

“Due to our commitment, over 100 Chibok girls have been rescued and reunited with their families, sent back to school and empowered with requisite skills.

“You may recall that recently, our negotiation efforts led to the release of abducted University of Maiduguri lecturers, some women police personnel, students and even an NYSC member.

“We, therefore, have no doubt that the Dapchi girls will be rescued or released. I can reassure parents, Nigerians and the International Community that we will do all that is within our power to make sure that the girls are brought back safely to their families.”

Nigeria Borrowed N4.365 Trillion In 2017 – Total Debt Rises To N21.725 Trillion

Featured Image

The Debt Management Office (DMO) has revealed that the Nigerian government borrowed N4.365 trillion in 2017, bringing the country’s total debt stock to N21.725 trillion.

The Director General of the DMO, Patience Oniha, stated this on Wednesday, March 13, during a press conference in Abuja.

Oniha said the federal government is planning to reduce domestic debt to 60 percent to the total debt stock from the present 73 percent.

She added that the new debt stock represents 18.20 per cent of Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for 2017.

“This indicates that the debt is sustainable and within the 56 per cent threshold for countries in Nigeria’s peer group,” said Oniha.

“The key benefits of the restructuring of the portfolio are the reduction of the government’s debt-service costs, lowering of interest rates in the domestic market and improved availability of credit facilities to the private sector,” She said.

“Our projection is that from two sources, the borrowing should be dropping in the medium term. The rate of increase will be much slower, and instead of borrowing 17-18 percent from the domestic market, we’ll do 7 percent from external sources.”

She said Nigeria had to increase borrowing because the output and price of crude fell in 2014, which reduced government revenue and eventually plunged the economy into its worst recession in 25 years.

The DG also noted that the debt consisted of N15.938 trillion domestic borrowings for the Federal Government, the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

This represents 73.36 per cent of the entire debt stock, with the external component consisting of a balance of N5.787 trillion, representing 26.64 per cent.

A further breakdown indicates the domestic debt for the Federal Government was N12.589 trillion, while that of states and the FCT was N3.348 trillion.
