NAN reports that the wedding was conducted by the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II; and supported by the Chief Imam of Kano, Prof. Sani Zaharaddeen.

Buhari in his capacity as the bride’s ‘father’ received N500,000 dowry from the representative of the groom at the occasion.

Other important personalities that graced the occasion include former Head of State, retired Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar; Speaker, the House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara and a retinue of serving Senators.

Some governors and ministers, as well as traditional rulers from across the country, also attended the occasion.

Others were former National Security Adviser, retired Gen. Aliyu Gusau, members of the business community, politicians and members of the diplomat corps, among others.

Some prominent media houses also reported that American billionaire, Bill Gates, also attended the occasion.

The event, which was also attended by prominent Islamic scholars and other well wishers from across the country, witnessed a large turnout of workers from various companies owned by the renowned business mogul.

Security at the occasion was water tight, as all the entrances leading to the palace were cordoned-off by heavily armed security operatives.

The development made it impossible for most journalists who turned up to cover the event to do so.

Nigeria Approves Level 9 As Entry Point For Engineering Graduates In Public Service

Featured Image

On behalf of the federal government, the National Council on Establishment (NCE) has announced the approval of an upgraded salary grade level and promotion for engineering graduates in the public service.

The approval is contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the council’s 40th meeting that ended on Friday in Owerri, Imo.

The communiqué, which was read by Mr Rufus Godwins, Head of Service of Rivers Government, stated that the council also approved that engineers would advance to grade level 10 after two years in service.

Other memorandums approved by the council, according to Godwins, are the creation of executive cadre for Procurement Officers in the scheme of service, and inclusion of Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO) and Assistant Cadre in the scheme.

Certificates for various roles including surveyors, survey technicians and craftsmen in the civil service as well as restoration of industrial promotion officer cadre from salary grade level 08 to 17 were also approved.

The statement further revealed a restoration and upward review of schools’ housemasters and mistresses’ allowance as well as those of science and mathematics teachers in Unity Schools.

The council canvassed for prompt payment of salaries and retirement benefits, adding that “professional certificates and qualifications issued by professional bodies who seek inclusion in the scheme of service, should be recognised for proficiency purposes only.”

“This is with approval for further necessary action by the Office of Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) and National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission,” he said.

“The payment of a special allowance to Civil Servants engaged in teaching in Unity Schools should be addressed by the OHCSF with other relevant stakeholders,” the communiqué added.

Godwins said the council’s plenary received 64 memorandums on various establishment matters, adding that some were rejected and others referred to the standing committee on schemes of service for detailed examination.

He announced that Kano would host the next council meeting while the standing committee would meet in July 2018 at Port Harcourt, Rivers.

NAN reports that the Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita, presided over the meeting that was attended by the Heads of Service from the 36 states and their Permanent Secretaries.

Adeboye Visits Benue To Console Villagers Killed By Herdsmen | “I Wept When I Saw People Weeping”

The General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Paster Enoch Adeboye, on Friday paid a visit to Benue State to condole with the people over the deaths recorded during clashes between farmers and herdsmen.

Speaking in Makurdi, the state capital, when he visited the State Governor, Samuel Ortom, in the company of Folu, his wife, Adeboye said he was moved to tears over the “mindless killings” of people in the state.

Addressing the gathering before going into prayers, Pastor Adeboye explained that he did not visit the state much earlier before President Muhammamadu Buhari visited so as not to leave room for suspicion in the minds of politicians.

“I would have been here earlier but I was praying at home and was instructed by God not to come before the president,” he said.

The cleric continued: “Benue state is very very close to my heart, I had felt every pain you people felt and I wept when I saw you weeping. But of course no man of God will see a mass burial anywhere and not feel the pains of the people affected.

“We want these killings to stop. Happily we know someone who can stop it, He is the Almighty God, He does not fail nor compromise, He is the God of all. We will continue to call on Him to fight this battle and you can be assured that victory will be certain.”

Earlier, Governor Samuel Ortom had lamented that the incursions of herdsmen into the state, apart from leading to the deaths of many, had created a huge humanitarian crisis in the state.

He appealed to the church to sustain prayers for the government and people of the state given the enormous challenge the crisis posed to the wellbeing of the people of the state.

Ortom said, “the crisis has turned Benue state into a huge refuge and IDPs camp. With well over 180,000 persons displaced and housed in 9 camps in the state in a crisis that had affected 16 out of the 23 local government areas of the state leaving my government overwhelmed. But we know that there is nothing to hard for our God to do in the face of difficulties.”

Meek Mill Reveals His Plans After Serving Jail Term

Featured Image

Rapper, Meek Mill who is locked up in his hometown for violating probation has revealed his plans after serving his jail term.

Since his first infraction in 2007, Meek has been haunted by the court/prison sentence and was constantly either in jail or on probation even after his career took off.

Meek Mill’s booking agent, Clint Saunders, tells Rolling Stone that the ‘Wins & Losses’ MC lost $5 million in show money last fall when shortly after the latest album was released, Meek was jailed and obviously unable to perform.

Since his November sentence, Meek Mill says that he does not allow certain people to visit him in jail.

“I won’t let them come. If they see me like this – fucked-up beard, hair all ganked – then it’s like I’m really in here. Which I’m not.” Meek said.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, The MMG rapper shared his plans following his release from prison which includes speaking out against the prison system and moving out of “the city of brotherly love.”

in regard to the African-American police and judicial figures involved in his incarceration. Meek Mill said;

“For a kid from North Philly to come all the way up, then be pulled back down by his own? Trust me, I’m gonna say something about that. And then, I’m gonna move to Atlanta.”

The controversy surrounding Meek’s case from a potentially corrupt police officer who arrested Meek back in 2007, Reggie Graham, to Judge Brinkley who allegedly asked Meek in front of Meek’s then girlfriend, Nicki Minaj, to record a remix to Boys II Men‘s hit song “One Bended Knee,” and when Meek declined she simply said, ‘suit yourself’ in a sarcastic manner.

Meek refused to wear a wire in any of his meetings with the judge as asked by the FBI because, “in my world that’s called snitching.”

That being said, it’ll be difficult to pin any clear corruption charges on Judge Brinkley, but in the case of the corrupt officer, Meek’s defense team may have something plausible to bring to the April 16 post-conviction hearing.

#BBNaija 2018 Day 46: Housemates Bounce And Wrestle To Biggie’s Rhythm

Featured Image

Big brother decided to up the ante with the ‘Silly Week’ theme, as he introduced face ‘pieing’ and animal costumes but he took it a notch higher by transporting the #bbnaija Housemates to a Japanese sumo club where they clearly had loads of fun.

After a long morning of lazing around and probably contemplating the evening’s Wager judgement, Big brother had a ninja come in and deliver the brief that promised a whole different mood; silly game time.

The #bbnaija Housemates were provided with an inflatable sumo ring and costumes to match. This time around there were no riddle formed catches, they simply had to make their own rules and wrestle away.

One undeniable fact is that Romance is the number one theme of this seasson in the #bbnaija House because even with their pairing, the housemates decided to couple it up.

Teddy A and Bambam were the ones tasked with inaugurating the ring as they were the first to jump onto it, armoured and ready. It was clear that Teddy A gave Bambam the upper hand and allowed her to win. Anto and Lolu followed swiftly, with Anto bringing a fight and Lolu simply caressing her, but we do not know if that was intentional or not.

Cee-C and Tobi took to the stage and as if getting her revenge for all the times that Tobi acted out and misunderstood her, Cee-C pulled some moves and had Tobi pinned in a matter of minutes. Cee-C’s victory was followed by Nina’s. We can’t tell whether he let her win or she was just that strong but nonetheless, she beat miracle on the mat.

With all the wailing and babying, we just didn’t see Alex having so much strength. Panting and sweating, her tall frame hovered over Rico Swavey and she alsp defeated him with little or no stress.

The tournament continued as the #bbnaija Housemates that managed to defeat their romantic partners soldiered on but Alex had all the rights cards and that lead to her win.

Thanks to Teddy A’s unconventional commentating, Tobi and Miracle’s gymnastic interval entertainment, the #bbnaija Housemates had loads of fun and it was a much needed stress relief from the arduous and mental tasks of the previous weeks.

#BBNaija 2018 Day 46: Jungle-themed Musical Performance For The Wager

Featured Image

With so much at stake, including the Nokia Challenge, the #bbnaija Housemates pushed themselves above and beyond their own limits to secure the Wager. The #bbnaija housemates were very focused on the tasks and they dedicated a good part of the afternoon of day 46 to scripting, choreographing and rehearsing their musical presentation.

The dining table had been turned into a war room with notes scattered all over and chairs all occupied as they buried their heads in the tasks.

All the #bbnaija Housemates had come to the table in their costume, Alex was dressed as a bee, Cee-C dressed as a fox, Nina wore a leopard suit, Bambam was in zebra catsuit, as Anto had become a bright yellow rooster.

Lolu came dressed on a sheep ‘suit and Rico a rabbit’s was quite indicative of how they are perceived as compliant in the #bbnaija House. On the other hand, the two alpha-male were expectedly wearing a gorilla suit (Tobi) and a tiger costume (Teddy A).

In what appeared to be a funny twist, Miracle wore a horse costume during the rehearsals only to perform dressed like a tour guide.

Big Brother’s instructions were clear for the musical show to be presented in less than 30 minutes. In her role as Head of House, Nina had the honour of presenting the theme of the play as bringing a message of unity and peace.

In an Arena that had been transformed into an African grassland, all the animals entered in an organised fashion, each sticking to their part and always singing their lines. Lolu, Anto and Rico entered growling like all hell had broken loose.

Cee-C followed purring into her fox suit. Then Alex skipped around in her bee costume, belting out a parody of Beyonce’s Girls at the top of her lungs with ‘Who runs the world?Bees. Bees.’

The #bbnaija Housemates put all their hearts in the delivery of what has proven to be quite a musically challenging task. Judging by the confidence that some have discovered in their vocal cords, it seems like a few stars may well have been born in the #bbnaija house after the task.

Ekiti University Lecturers Suspend 3-Month-Old Strike

Featured Image

The Ekiti State University (EKSU) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Thursday called off its three-month-old strike.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that members of the union in the university embarked on strike since January over unresolved staff welfare issues and unpaid salaries.

At a marathon ASUU meeting held on Thursday, 53 percent of members voted for strike call-off if management could pay at least one month salary and one month deduction.

However, 43 percent voted for the continuation of the strike.

The ASUU decision came as management of the institution also announced plans to pay one month salary and one month deduction, while negotiation continues on other aspects of the requests by the academic staff.

Kolapo Olusola-Eleka, deputy governor of the state, had on Monday hinted about the suspension of the strike while addressing a section of students’ representatives who came to stage a pro-government rally.

He appealed to the striking workers to resume work in the interest of the students since genuine steps had been taken to address the causes of the strike.

“For your information, many of the issues have already been resolved; delay in salary payment was caused by bad economy. We are experiencing terrible recession in the country,” he had said.

“I can confirm to you that the governor has agreed to pay two months subventions to ensure two months salary arrears for our lecturers. I am appealing to my colleagues since the government has shifted ground, they should suspend the strike.”

VP Osinbajo’s Daughter, Oludamilola, Traditional Engagement To Oluseun Bakare (PHOTOS)

Featured Image

Following the traditional engagement of the daughter of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Oludamilola, to Oluseun Bakare on Thursday, the old Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja was filled to capacity as it hosted the guests of Nigeria’s number two citizen.

The VP had on February 14 taken to twitter to announce the betrothal of Oludamilola to Oluseun, and fixing the wedding for March 15 and 17.

“With joy and praise to the Lord, Dolly and I announce the betrothal of our daughter Oludamilola Osinbajo to Oluseun Bakare,” the Vice President wrote.

However, it is understood that the high class traditional wedding witnessed the “who is who” from the political class, the academia, the business class as well as associates of the Vice President.

It was also reliably gathered that guests were not allowed to enter the venue with their cell phones, while journalists covering the State House were not allowed to come near the venue.

A source at the Villa told newsmen that the organizers of the event did not want journalists to cover it to avoid any backlash especially this period the nation is mourning death of the abducted Dapchi girls and the herdsmen attacks in many parts of the country that led to the death of many.

#BBNaija 2018 Day 46: Housemates send Messages With Their Animal Costumes

Featured Image

With 10 #bbnaija Housemates left in the Big Brother Naija House and the theme of the seventh week termed the ‘Silly Week’, all the housemates are in a race to outdo one another. It seems it is much better to act silly than to be too serious, especially when you’re so close to the ultimate prize of ₦ 25 Million.

In what seemed like a move to spice things up, Big Brother ordered the #bbnaija Housemates to own their silliness in animal costumes and in his usual style, it seems lile there are a number of hidden interpretations with their actions.

Without Biggie’s hand, each of the Top 10 rummaged through the junk in search of a costume that would suit their personalities. While they all chose what they think was best for them, here are a number of likely interpretations of their costumes.

Anto does look good on yellow and the costume she chose really complemented her. With her american accent, sounding like a bird will definitely be better than expected. Alex on her part chose to be the bumble bee, which was quite befitting, given the fact that she is one of the busiest #bbnaija Double Wahala Housemates. If she’s not trying to understand stuff, she’s explaining stuff or well, crying about stuff.

Bambam chose to be the Zebra, and being the second lady to make Head of the #bbnaija House, her costume shows she exudes enormous self-confidence. Cee-C chose the snow white bunny costs and it suits her, given the fact that Rabbits are astoundingly cute and rely heavily on their soft personalities and vulnerable appearance to succeed.

Lolu being the sheep definitely has typical sheep characteristics. Sheep’s are usually very quiet and gentle and often get their way because they are so loved by humans. Nina being the boss lady leopard, had earlier stated that if she were an animal, she would be a cat with nine lives for all the challenges she has gone through and overcome.

Rico Swavey being the gorilla is a capable, happy-go-lucky individual with a disarming naivete. And just like the gorilla, Rico Swavey is a charmer.

Teddy A chose to be the Tiger and Tigers are also handsome and powerful people with an innate self-confidence and elegance and that’s just so Teddy A.

Tobi and Miracle’s costumes were those of huntera and both sure have a thing for power, which perhaps is the reason why they went for the hunter kits as opposed to animal gear. While they may love to lead, they sure do have tough followers in the other #bbnaija housemates.

“We Have Earned The Term Of Shithole. Nigeria Is Sick And Empty” – Wole Soyinka

Featured Image

Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka has described Nigeria as sick and empty, deserving of the term “shithole” echoing the thoughts of United States President, Donald Trump.

Professor Soyinka said this while speaking at the Ripples Nigerian Dialogue titled “Rebuilding trust in a Divided Nigeria,” held at The Wheatbaker Hotel in Ikoyi, Lagos.

He said, “We have earned the term of shithole. Nigeria is sick and empty. Some retrogressive forces won’t just stop. Everything Nigeria touches rusts.

Soyinka also condemned the humiliation of Nigerians by military personnel, adding that it was a part of the reasons for him relocating abroad.

“The treatment of Nigerians by the military led me to relocating to a saner clime. I remember invading Obasanjo’s residence in Lagos and challenging him concerning the way Nigerians were being treated. It is a disgrace to us, as a nation. We have been left behind in nearly every field.”

“There are lessons to be learnt from the diaspora. We need to peep across the Atlantic to see how other countries have been faring,”

Drawing illustrations from his lecture titled “From Miyetti to Haiti: Notes from a Solidarity Visit,” Soyinka emphasized the need to end slavery in our society. He also emphasized the need of looking in the mirror to solve Nigerian problems and encouraged youths to resist the passage of the Hate Speech bill.

#BBNaija 2018 Day 46: The Nokia Task Beings Out The Expressive side Of The Housemates

Featured Image

Perhaps as a result of the theme of the wekk which is based on frivolity, Biggie had the #bbnaija Housemates play a riddle contest followed by the Nokia Task brief.

The previous weeks of stay in the #bbnaija house has seen the Housemates bringing out their more serious side so it was refreshing to see everyone letting loose and having a good time today with the animal costumes.

On the heels of the animated day, the #bbnaija Housemates were then instructed to play a game whereby one of them would ask another a simple yet complex riddle, if the Housemate in question got the answer wrong, they received a cream pie smack bam in the face!

It was all laughs, smiles and hysteria until Lolu creamed Alex in the face with a lot of passive aggression. She was apparently unimpressed and looked as though she was on the brink of tears.

After the #bbnaija Housemates washed up and goofed around outside, it was time for them to embrace a new, fresh Task, one that would play on many of the Housemates inner artist.

It was quite bewildering that the #bbnaija Housemates will have to film one another while being filmed in the House.

Each Team had to pick a theme and then write a script, shoot the short film on their Nokia phones and then use the functions to best edit their mini production. This has proved to be dramatic as Nina donned a elderly mother’s costume and BamBam threw copious amounts of eye drops in to make her tearful scene hyper-realistic.

Even though all of the above is meant to spark fun and laughter among the the remaining ten #bbnaija Housemates, it was not all fun and games. Cee-C got visibly irritated with BamBam, to a point where she vented all her frustrations out to Tobi.

He advised her on how to play on BamBam’s psychology in order to solidify success. Miracle also got extremely frustrated with Nina during their rehearsal and Lolu seemed to be on edge with Alex.

We wait to see how the Nokia Task will pan out and who among the #bbnaija housemates will emerge tops.

#BBNaija 2018 Day 46: Housemates Get More Creative

Featured Image

The Short story is one that the #bbnaija housemates have given their all to, even as they tap into their creativity corners, while also loving and enjoying every moment of it.

The Nokia task saw the #bbnaija housemates spending much of their evening preparing for what will decide whether they’ll be winning their Wager this week or not. All the Housemates put a great amount of effort but Cee-C and BamBam as well as Tobi and Rico Swavey’s presentations appear to be the exceptional ones so far.

The emotion the ladies are bringing to their story and the message they’re conveying speak to a lot of people. Tobi and Rico Swavey on the other side have really stepped out of the box; both their imagination and creativity came into play and it seems to be doing wonders for th so far.

On the other hand, it looks like Miracle isn’t that into the Task or is simply too comfortable, perhaps due to the fact that he is working with Nina. We wait to see if he is successful at mixing business and pleasure; and if he will end up enjoying the bitter-sweet cocktail he is making.

Moreover, the task has given the #bbnaija Housemates the chance to showcase their skills and some have taken advantage of it. BamBam and Teddy A have grabbed the opportunity to showcase what they can do and it seems their fellow #bbnaija Housemates have given them the greenlight.

Alex has also shown a bit of herself, after winning the DanoMilk mother’s day Task. She seems to have become more confident in her writing skills and also appears to be having a ball with the Task. But then again, it could be that they’re just excited to have a phone at their disposal.

After what seemed like an eventful evening, the #bbnaija Housemates did the usual by dragging their feet to the Arena for yet another training session.

There seems to be something about the music because as soon as they stepped in, the rhythm took over. Alex seems to have gone back to her old dance queen ways and Anto seems to be a strong contender for the dormers crown.

No less than 25 people were reported to have been killed after suspected herdsmen attacked Oganienugwu and Ikende communities in Dekina local government area and Abejukolo in Omala local government, all in the eastern senatorial district of the state.

The Punch reports that the attack, which started on Tuesday and continued till Thursday, has caused residents to flee their homes.

It is understood that the suspects, who dressed in army uniforms, reportedly slaughtered the victims after tying them up, while those who attempted to escape allegedly received machete cuts.

Several houses were said to have been set ablaze and some others demolished, while the suspects also destroyed produce in the farms of residents.

While villagers were reportedly moving out of Obakume, Idirisu, and Oji Apata to escape possible attacks, it was gathered that a detachment of police and soldiers have been drafted to quell the violence.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Monday Bala, who confirmed the incident, said the command was yet to ascertain the actual casualty figure.

He said the command has drafted men of the command alongside men of the armed forces to deal with the situation, adding that his men are in total control of the situation.

The oba of Ayede Oke-Agi Amuro in Mopamuro local government area of the state, Matthew Obasa, had earlier cried out on the continued attack by herders in Kogi.

Obasa alleged that herdsmen murdered one Paul Oluwole (a.k.a Serebe), an ex-councillor of Mopamuro, on his way to the farm on March 8.

Obasa also claimed another woman was attacked.

“Another woman died on Wednesday due to the severe injuries she sustained from herdsmen attack about a week ago,” Obasa said.

“The woman, who was returning home from the farm with her little baby on her back was raped and had her hands and breast cut off. Our lives and the entire community are not safe from the hand of these evil men as they go about with guns and dangerous weapons.”

NYSC Withdraws Corps Members From ‘Blacklisted’ Osun School

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Osun has withdrawn some corps members posted to Osogbo High School because of threats to their lives from some pupils who belong to a cult group.

The Osun State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr. Emmanuel Attah, who said this on Wednesday while speaking with journalists at the 2018 NYSC/Corps Employers workshop held in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, disclosed that the school was also blacklisted.

He said the NYSC would not hesitate to withdraw corps members from any establishment or institution where they felt their safety was not guaranteed.

Asked if the NYSC was satisfied with the security of corps members posted to schools in Osun State, Attah said he had no reason to complain about their security.

But he added that those who served in Osogbo High School in 2017 were attacked by students suspected to be cultists while the institution was unable to guarantee their safety.

Attah also said the failure of the principal of the school to provide protection for corps members was responsible for the blacklisting of the school.

He said, “I have no reason to complain about the security of corps members in the state. The police and the Department of State Services are always trying. But in 2017, we had to withdraw all the corps members posted to Osogbo High School due to cultist attacks.

“We will not post corps members to the school again unless the school gives us a written guarantee that the lives of the corps members are safe. The NYSC will not post anybody to anywhere their lives are not safe.”
