Some soldiers of the Nigerian Army attached to Operation Ayem Akpatuma (Cat Race) have allegedly beaten a 27 years old man, Yusufa Haruna, to death at Mbamga in Sarduana local government area of Taraba state.

The father of the deceased, Mr. Haruna Kurkal, who spoke with newsmen in Jalingo, the state capital on Monday, disclosed that trouble started when his late son had a misunderstanding with his girlfriend which resulted in a fight among them.

Kurkal further said that the parents of the girl (name withheld) reported the misunderstanding to the village head of the area, Jauro Saleh Abubakar, who asked the Sarkin Hausawa, Alhaji Ibrahim Bangari, to report the issue to soldiers.

He narrated that the soldiers on receipt of the complaint stormed his house looking for him and his son but they were not at home as they were on the farm.

“On Friday March 23rd, I was home in the evening when my daughter ran to me crying that soldiers beat Yusufa to death.

“And few minutes later, I saw some of my relations carrying Yusufa on a motorcycle to my house.

“He was unconscious as he was badly tortured. We quickly took him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead,” he said.

Haruna said the matter was reported to the police in Gembu who arrested the village head and the girl in question and have since brought them to Jalingo for further interrogation.

The deceased’s father who said they arrived Jalingo at the weekend said the village head and the girl were in custody of the police at the command headquarters in Jalingo, and that proper investigation is expected to commence on Tuesday after the Easter holiday.

“It is with profound sadness that we inform the public that Mrs Winnie Madikizela-Mandela passed away at the Netcare Milpark Hospital, Johannesburg, South Africa on Monday,” said a statement issued by her family.

“She died after a long illness, for which she had been in and out of hospital since the start of the year. She succumbed peacefully in the early hours of Monday afternoon surrounded by her family and loved ones.”

“Mrs. Madikizela-Mandela was one of the greatest icons of the struggle against apartheid,” the statement said. “She fought valiantly against the apartheid state and sacrificed her life for the freedom of the country.”

Madikizela-Mandela was known as the “Mother of the Nation” because of her struggle against white-minority rule in South Africa.

She was married to Nelson Mandela for 38 years, including the 27 years he was imprisoned on an island near Cape Town.

“She kept the memory of her imprisoned husband Nelson Mandela alive during his years on Robben Island and helped give the struggle for justice in South Africa one of its most recognizable faces,” the statement said.

The couple were divorced in 1996, two years after Nelson Mandela became South Africa’s first black President. They had two daughters together. Nelson Mandela died in 2013.

If CDQ Is Sorry For Calling Me One-night Stand, I’m Sorry Too – Ifu Ennada

Featured Image

Evicted Big Brother Naija’s housemate, Ifu Ennada, has insisted that she is not aware of Nigerian rapper, CDQ’s apology to her.

Recall that after describing CDQ as an ingrate while she was in the Big Brother House, the rapper reacted by declaring her a ‘one-night stand.’

Ennada alleged that CDQ used and dumped her after she had helped him when he was nobody.

In an attempt to resolve the whole issue and bury the controversy, CDQ took to his Instagram page to explain why he reacted the way he did and tendered a ‘soft’ apology.

In a chat with GoldmyneTV, Ennada said she was not aware of CDQ’s apology.

In her words;

“When did CDQ apologise? I have yet to see whatever the apology is about. I don’t have issues with him.

I spoke my mind and I have moved on. All I said on the television didn’t come from a malicious mind. Maybe I shouldn’t have mentioned his name, but it is already out there and I cannot withdraw it.

If he said he is sorry for calling me a ‘one-night stand,’ then I am also sorry for some of the things I said about him too.

I was not surprised when I came out of the house and I saw my news everywhere. I knew something would happen and I was not disappointed. I am a very blunt person when I speak.”

Tottenham Has To Win The FA Cup This Season- Harry Kane

Featured Image

Tottenham striker Harry Kane has insisted that the team must win the FA Cup if this season is to be considered a success.

Tottenham are on course for a top-four finish in the Premier League but now also face Manchester United on April 21 for a place in the final of the FA Cup.

After crashing out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage against Juventus last month, as well as exiting the EFL Cup early on, Spurs are now relying on the FA Cup to end their decade-long wait for silverware.

Kane is happy to have seen Tottenham take a giant leap towards securing Champions League football for next season, having defeated Chelsea 3-1 on Sunday afternoon, and is now keen to win his first major honour.

“Champions League football is a must and we’re in a great position,” Sky Sports News quotes him as saying. “I think we’ve got to try and win the FA Cup. If we do that, we can say it’s been a very good season.

“Obviously [Manchester] City have run away with the league this year, and fair play to them. But for us, it’s about maintaining the Champions League every year and hopefully we can do that. We’re in a comfortable position, we’ve got to go on and finish well.

“We don’t just want to be a team that gets there one or two years and then falls off. We deserve to be there. We showed this year in the Champions League that we can compete with the best. It was disappointing to go out but we had some great results, so we want to be there again next year and do the same.”

Report: David De Gea Close To Signing New £350,000-a-week Contract At Manchester United

Featured Image

Manchester United are now close to tying down goalkeeper David de Gea to a new five-year deal worth £350,000 a week, according to a report.

David De Gea is said to be ready to sign a new contract before heading off to the World Cup in Russia, making him the club’s second-highest earner behind January signing Alexis Sanchez.

Real Madrid’s rumoured interest in the Spain international has refused to go away, but The Sun suggests that years of speculation will end in the coming weeks as both parties are happy with the contract offer.

A United insider is quoted by the publication as saying: “The club want it sorted. It has to be done in their eyes. They want David can go to the World Cup and come back knowing everything is settled.

“Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] leaving has freed up more wiggle room on wages and United don’t want to drag it out. They want to show the world that David won’t be leaving for anywhere. It’s a real statement mark for them.”

Stoke City Chairman Peter Coates In Full Support Of Ibrahim Afellay’s Banishment From The Club

Featured Image

Stoke City chairman Peter Coates is fully behind manager Paul Lambert’s decision to expel Ibrahim Afellay from the first-team squad.

Ibrahim Afellay has not featured since the 5-0 defeat by Chelsea on December 30, with the 31-year-old absent from each of Lambert’s eight games.

The Scot is concerned with Affelay’s disruptive attitude at the training ground, and Coates told the Stoke Sentinel: “We have standards we have to keep and expect people to keep and we obviously support the manager on such issues.

“If he feels as strongly as he has on this issue, then of course we back him.”

Afellay’s present deal expires in June 2019, but this recent call by Lambert suggests a parting of the ways in the summer.

#BBNaija 2018 Day 63: A More Sensitive Anto In The Making?

Featured Image

Anto is one of the #bbnaija housemates that has had a somewhat ‘I don’t care’ vibe from the beginning of this season and just like Bambam, Teddy A and Rico Swavey, she’s managed to maintain a rather neutral front except when someone pushed way too hard.

All these however seems to have changed as she appears to have come back with a bit of sensitivity. But xould this be a strategy of hers?

For a little while prior to Eviction, Anto and Lolu became completely submerged in the idea of each other, consequently becoming each other’s shadows. Alternatively, Lolu, although having said that Anto wasn’t the kind of girl he’d usually go for, appeared to have fallen for her and despite her constant shade, he never let any courting opportunities pass him by.

Anto on the other hand seemed to have adopted an entirely different perspective and wanted to be free. She refused to be held down by Lolu’s display of emotion; rolling with whom she pleased, doing what she wanted and with strategy in hand, played her game for the win.

There are instances when Anto made it clear in the #bbnaija house that she wasn’t about to make any emotional investments and bluntly told Lolu that he’d need to up his game because she didn’t feel like putting all her eggs in one basket. Telling him that just as a soccer player would choose the team that offered them the most contractual rewards, she had to analyse and see who had more to offer her.

Being Evicted and finding out that she wasn’t the one holding the winning card, discovering that Lolu was in fact the one dealt a better hand, her ego took a heavy hit. Despite having rejected and curved him, she was visibly hurt by the news that Lolu had a ‘person’ outside the #bbnaija House because this meant that he wasn’t being completely sincere about his feelings towards her.

This turn of events hit her so had that she couldn’t help but talk about it during their dice game. Revealing her disappointment and downright avoiding Lolu for a good while. He tried to talk his way back into her good books but she made it clear that the little confidence she had in him had been thrown out the window.

However, it wasn’t over for him because for the first time, he threw the begging and questioning aside, admitting his mistake and letting her know that besides being the guy that disappointed her, he was still the guy that considered her his girl and all he wanted was to have his girl back.

Whether her reaction was sincere or in line with her strategy, Lolu managed to redeem himself and she was back to his side, indicating that there is some emotional in there after all. With only a few weeks to the end of this #bbnaija season, we have to wait and see how it plays out.

Atletico Madrid Can Seal Second Place Finish By Defeating Real Madrid- Gabi

Featured Image

Atletico Madrid midfielder Gabi has suggested that a victory over Real Madrid next weekend will likely be enough to seal second place in the La Liga table.

With eight matches remaining, Atletico Madrid hold a four-point advantage over their city rivals ahead of their showdown at the Bernabeu on Sunday afternoon.

Atletico still have faint hopes of catching leaders Barcelona, but Gabi has admitted that their most realistic target should be trying to finish ahead of Real come the middle of May.

The 34-year-old is quoted by Marca as saying: “The clash next Sunday is crucial in the race for second spot. Our aim this season is to secure second spot – we enter every season hoping to guarantee a top three finish but second is a bonus which is now within our reach.

“Since Diego [Simeone] came to the club we look to challenge the very best sides in the league and of course we dream of repeating our league title from four years ago, but it is hard to see Barcelona slipping up so much.”

Gary Neville Believes Antonio Conte Won’t Be At Chelsea Next Season

Featured Image

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte will not be at the club next season, but short-termism is part of the way the club work, says Gary Neville.

Antonio Conte has complained about the summer’s transfer activity at Chelsea regularly throughout the season, with his side now an outside bet to make the Champions League following the 3-1 defeat by Spurs on Super Sunday.

The Italian lifted the Premier League title in his first season in England in 2016/17, but Neville says his situation is part of the nature of the job at Chelsea.

“I don’t think he’s going to be here next season,” he said on the Gary Neville Podcast. “We’ve thought it for six or seven months.

“And that’s not because we don’t want him here, or we don’t think he’s done a great job, it’s just the nature of the job here. It’s such that when you have a season slightly worse than before, you go.”

Alan Pardew Quits As West Brom Manager After Nine Straight Defeats

Featured Image

West Brom have parted company with manager Alan Pardew by mutual consent.

The Baggies lie bottom of the table, 10 points adrift of safety with only six games of the season left, and Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at home to Burnley was their eighth top-flight loss in a row.

A club statement confirmed Pardew and assistant head coach John Carver had departed the club, with first-team coach Darren Moore placed in charge of the first-team “until further notice”.

West Brom had held off making a change because of an apparent lack of options to replace Pardew.

The club said in a statement: “West Bromwich Albion and Alan Pardew have agreed to mutually part company today following discussions between both parties. Assistant head coach John Carver will also be leaving.

“The club would like to thank Alan and John for their efforts and wish them well in their future endeavours.”

#BBNaija 2018 Day 63: A Bitter Sweet Week As The Housemates Win Their Wager

Featured Image

The Ninth week has been a bitter sweet one for the #bbnaija housemates as they woke up to Anto and Khloe’s return, having visitors in the House and the late night eviction of BamBam, and it all ended well with them winning the wager.

The wager win however shouldn’t elicit much excitement given the fact that the #bbnaija housemates wagered twenty five percent. The news however came as a relief for them but not as much as the guys in the House.

Due to the fact that the ladies lost their turf wars to the guys, the ladies have been ordered to not participate in anything involving the shopping or they will be punished.

There was also a surprise visit from former Super Eagles players which came as a pleasant surprise for the #bbnaija Housemates. They also participated in a game of football in their own back yard.

The rest of the week saw them turning Biggie’s House into an art studio, each trying to come up with a powerful message for their national football heroes.

The arty pieces were well put together and the messages conveyed was unanimously of backing and rallying behind their National team till the end.

Ebuka’s happy moments with the #bbnaija Housemates were cut short when it was revealed that the visitor he brought came baring bad news. The event, saw BamBam leaving the #bbnaija House.

With Biggie always ready and full of twists the Housemates were left wondering if it could be one of those, an April fool’s joke or just a normal eviction.

The turf wars made it difficult for the the #bbnaija Housemates to maneuver freely but at the end it all bore fruit. The Housemates won their wager and shopping will commence as soon as big brother tells them to do so.

Senate Initiates 2 Bills To Fight Drug Abuse In Nigeria

Featured Image

The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has said that the Senate has developed two draft bills for legislation to tackle the menace of drug abuse across the country.

The SP said that this was an outcome of the roundtable put in place by him in December last year in Kano on the rising drug abuse in the country.

The proposed bills are: National Drug Control Bill and National Mental Health Bill.

A statement by the Media Office of the President of the Senate said the Drug Control Bill seeks to clarify the mandate and strengthen the capacity of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to eradicate the illicit production, and trafficking of controlled substances.

“It also seeks to establish a central mechanism to facilitate collaboration among law enforcement, regulatory and public health authorities in line with the National Drug Control Policy.

“The Bill further focuses on proactive law enforcement and regulatory measures towards the eradication of the illicit importation, production and trafficking of controlled substances.”

The statement further said the bill sought to criminalise the diversion, distribution or otherwise dispensing of controlled substances without a prescription or license.

On mental health bill, the statement noted that, in recognition of the fact that psychosocial issues are the key drivers for the abuse of psychoactive substance, the bill was crafted to ensure that standard facilities were available in every state to provide mental health and substance abuse services.

The proposed law guarantees the protection of the rights of people with mental illness and stipulates that mental health practitioners and facilities no longer engage in practices that are harmful to people with mental health and substance use disorders.

In recognising the low number of mental health practitioners in the country with the ratio of practitioners at one psychiatrist to 1.6 million people, the draft law makes provision for quality mental health and substance abuse services available for women and adolescents, who are an underserved segment of the population.

UNILAG Announces New Date For Convocation Ceremony

Featured Image

The management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has announced a new date for its convocation ceremony.

According to its Registrar, Dr Taiwo Ipaye, the postponed convocation ceremony of the varsity will now take place from May 8 to May 11.

Ipaye made the disclosure on Sunday in Lagos.

A week-long convocation ceremony for the 2016/2017 academic session was earlier scheduled to begin on Feb. 19 but postponed as a result of the strike by non-academic workers.

“The university management is happy to announce a new date for the convocation ceremony.

“The schedule for the ceremony remains the same. The only additional thing is a reception for retired professors, directors and registrars; it will take place on the last day, Friday, May 11, after Jumat prayers,” she said.

Ipaye also revealed that Gov. Akinwumi Ambode of Lagos State will deliver the convocation lecture on May 8.

“The lecture, with the theme: “Inclusion: The Path to a New Nation’’, previously scheduled for Feb. 19, would kick-start activities lined up for the ceremony,’’ she said.

Ipaye said that an opening exhibition and the inauguration of the 12th Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, would, however, precede the lecture.

According to her, the main convocation ceremony will be held in two sessions (morning and afternoon) each day from May 9 to May 11.

The registrar said that award of first degrees, diplomas, certificates and the announcement of prize winners for graduating students of Faculties of Education and Social Sciences would take place on the morning of May 9.

She said graduating students for the Faculties of Arts, Environmental Sciences and Sciences would be attended to in the afternoon of the same day.

According to Ipaye, on May 10, the award of first degrees, diplomas, certificates and announcement of prize winners for graduating students of the Faculties of Engineering, Law and Management Sciences will hold in the morning.

She said that graduating students of the Faculties of Basic Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Dental Sciences, Pharmacy and the Distance Learning Institute would be awarded first degrees, diplomas and certificates in the afternoon of the same day.

Ipaye said that the ceremony would end on May 11 with congregation for the award of higher degrees of the School of Postgraduate Studies.

She said that on the same day, the Best Researcher Award and conferment of the Distinguished and Emeritus Professors would also hold.

This Buhari Is Not Welcomed In Lagos – Anthony A. Kila

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

Lest we become guilty of what we accuse others of doing, it is important that we, today and for posterity, say it loud and clear that based on the cost and benefit analysis of President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Lagos, last Thursday and Friday, we must inform the President and all those who hosted him, starting from the Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, that this Buhari that came is not welcomed in Lagos anymore.

This piece was written by Anthony A. Kila. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

This Buhari that came to town is a man for whom the whole state, at least, government offices were shut down through an announcement that explained two days to his arrival that the state was on a work-free day that would “enable Lagosians to come out en masse to welcome President Muhammadu Buhari”.

Among those that were granted a work-free holiday to enable him greet the President is a 36-year-old legal practitioner who has been preparing for a case in court for the past two months. Besides his passion for law and his joy for finally doing a case, Mr Lawyer was also hoping to come home with some money so that this Easter would not be totally dry as his client had agreed to give him some money in court.

With the visit of Mr President and the added “enabling work-free day”, the courts were closed on Thursday; the client did not show up, hence Easter came without the expected joy for Mr Lawyer and family.

The case of the woman selling food to staff of many companies including government offices in Ikeja is not so different from many entrepreneurs and businesses in general. They invest and plan ahead in view of profits with the risk that goes with such process. One thing they didn’t factor in is the visit of this Buhari.  Madam Caterer had planned her supplies ahead with the view of selling till Thursday. But with that presidential visit, Madam was left with items bought and no one to sell to. Staff would be back on Tuesday but by then everything would have perished. Let’s not go near the issue of power supply today.

It will not be fair of us if we do not remember flights that were disrupted, and the cost to airlines and passengers who had to walk to the airport. I observed that many of them didn’t even remember to wear appropriate shoes for long walk.

This is not to talk about the pupils in the state-owned schools who had exams planned for that day long ago at the beginning of the second term, in order to close for the Easter Break, only to be forced to sit for subjects they barely prepared for a day to the D-Day.

All these are cases from microeconomics; if we aggregate the whole thing and move to macroeconomics and think that one of the largest economies in Africa was shut down to accommodate the visit of one man coming to open a bus stop, I mean bus station, then, we see how far we have come as a people. Someone sent a message asking me to estimate the macroeconomic cost of the visit. I refused because the truth presented in numbers can be very hurtfully when one is losing. Let us pray: May we not find ourselves in situations where numbers hurt us.

Our Lagos prides itself as the Centre of Excellence; I have always said such an appellation is more aspirational than factual but I have also proudly replied realists, cynics and spoilers that whilst we may not be perfect in Lagos, we are certainly cosmopolitan, vibrant and productive and more creative than most cities in Africa.

A centre of excellence does not relegate or suspend the lives and interests of its residents and businesses for the benefit of any one man. No matter how powerful, mighty, successful or inspirational such a man is.  The visitor should never be bigger than what makes Lagos big. Whilst we are at it, let us remind ourselves that the rationale for which modern states grant religious holidays is not to honour God but to allow citizens to go and honour their God. Holidays are for the people.

“O ye deity, if you cannot improve my lot, please, leave me as you met me…” is a saying many of us living in and around Lagos State will be used to hearing and saying.

This Buhari that came to Lagos on Thursday, came in a way that does not improve our lot. His coming took governance to a low level at which we regret to see Lagos. That visit did not bring joy and comfort to most Lagosians. Someone tweeted that the crowed that were happy to see Buhari were paid to show happiness. We wish them happiness with productivity and in dignity.

Although we don’t write “Welcome to Lagos” at our borders, we are certainly happy to see people bring joy to and even find joy in our Lagos. Our Lagos is a place where with hard work and a bit of luck, dreams can become true and achievers can excel.  Anyone who is going to come in a way to cause us discomfort should stay wherever they are. We don’t welcome such people regardless of who they may be.

The next time the President wants to visit Lagos or anyway in Nigeria, we hope there will be someone in his team considerate and deliberate enough to find out if such a visit will cause discomfort to residents and citizens of such a state.

This Buhari Is Not Welcomed In Lagos – Anthony A. Kila

18 Feared Dead, 84 Injured In Fresh Boko Haram Attack In Maiduguri

Featured Image

No fewer than 15 persons are feared dead and 55 others sustained injuries in a Sunday night attack by Boko Haram insurgents at Bale community in the outskirts of Maiduguri.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that echoes from sporadic gunshots and multiple explosions which lasted for hours on Sunday evening, were heard from the outskirts of the city.

Competent security sources told NAN that a number of insurgents attacked Bale-Shuwa and Bale-Kura communities near Maiduguri in an attempt to infiltrate the town at about 8: 00 p. m.

The source disclosed that the insurgents parked their vehicles few meters away from a security check point and sneaked into the community.

The source added that the security operatives engaged in fierce gun battle with the insurgents who detonated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and shot sporadically.

“Dozens of people including women and children were wounded from the explosion and gun shots.

“Due to darkness dead bodies were not evacuated immediately because there were suicide bombers among the attackers,” the source added.

However, the Commander of the Theatre Command of Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj-Gen. Rogers  Nicholas, denied any death on the side of his soldiers or civilians  in the attack.

Reacting to NAN inquiry in a text message he said, however, that some of the Boko Haram insurgents were killed.

“That’s not correct.  There was an attack which was repelled and some Boko Haram insurgents were killed by gallant soldiers.

“However, Boko Haram came with suicide bombers who denoted their vests while running from the troops fire in a nearby community and that led to 14 civilians being injured from the blasts.”

UPDATE:

Meanwhile, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has told AFP that no fewer than 18 people were killed and 84 wounded when Boko Haram jihadists clashed with Nigerian soldiers.

“So far we have recovered 18 dead bodies from the two villages Bale Shuwa and Bale Kura,” an official said.

#BBNaija 2018 Day 63: The Khloe Effect

Featured Image

The return of Khloe to the #bbnaija house seemed to have shaken things up a bit, even though her presence in the house has always being felt and she always manages to rub the other Housemates off the wrong way. Basically, it’s like she never left.

The Dragon’s Den

At first, her demeanour made everyone else think that she’d been redeemed from her old chaotic ways that equated to a her and K.Brule’s premature exits, thanks to their collective strikes. However, it seems as though the dragon had been in hibernation and has woken up because in just a week, Khloe has had more quarrels than some of the other Housemates had since inception.

Her return to the #bbnaija house was obviously frowned upon by the Housemates not only based on the fact that she had a bit of a noisy history but also because she didn’t stay long enough for them to fathom her strategy and measure just how strong she was in terms of Votes.

Her strategy might have been completely overshadowed by all the quarrel and indifferences she’d had with the other #bbnaija Housemates before her return but now, it looks like that is what she’s adopted as a strategy.

Having been outside and fully exposed to the public’s perceptions of the different characters and roles in the #bbnaija House; the one that Khloe seems to have picked up from all the BBNaija related frenzy is the fact that people feed on quarrels and misunderstandings.

If you thought Cee-C shook the #bbnaija House, then Khloe’s recent outburst with her, Nina, Alex, Teddy A and Tobi has certainly taken things to a whole new level because the amount of instability went from minimum to over the limit real quick.

Her game face seems to be hardening as the fateful finale draws nearer, making her that more likely to hit the drum harder.

One trait of hers that can’t be ignored however is the fact that even after ugly brawls and cut-throat confrontations, she manages to bounce back into the good books of the other housemates and they can’t help but hug it out without really hugging it out.

It could be that we are getting what we see and being fed the real Khloe or she has simply adopted a rather messy strategy. Nonetheless, the #bbnaija double wahala show is still anyone’s game and if this is what she deems effective, by all means, let her quarrel away.
