“They have Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, Ivan Rakitic, but the feeling was that we could score.

“Alisson [Roma’s goalkeeper] did not make a save, we were better than them in both matches.

“It’s Di Francesco’s victory, he changed the tactics. It was a hard decision, a risk, but it was the right choice.”

The governor said that since the inception of the present administration, he has not received any complaint against judicial officers directly or indirectly from the National Judicial Council or the state Judicial Service Commission.

Buhari Approves Extension Of VAIDS Deadline To June 30

Featured Image

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the extension of the deadline of the Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS) to June 30.

The approval for the extension of the deadline is contained in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the short extension after the original March 31 date is based on the appeals of professional bodies and individual taxpayers.

The statement, however, maintained that no further extension of time will be approved after June 30.

It stated that a new date was also given, based on the conviction of the Ministry of Finance that the overall objective to increase compliance will be attained, and additional revenue will accrue.

It said that a Fresh Executive Order would be made to give legal backing to the new timeline.

“For a nation of people who are competitive and driven, it is not a pride that we are the lowest performer in tax to GDP, not just in Africa, but in the world.

“Nigeria’s growth needs are such that every Nigerian must do his duty to his nation, to his neighbour, and to himself.

“Hiding monies overseas, evading taxes by manipulation, and other unwholesome practices, have never developed a country, and for Nigeria to attain her true potential, these must stop,’’ President Buhari was quoted as saying in the statement.

The President urged Nigerian companies and individuals to join the government in the rebuilding mission, “and do the right thing by taking this window of extension to regularize.”

He added that the right thing may not be convenient or comfortable, “but in the long run, we will all have a nation we can be proud of.”

NAN reports that President Buhari further urged tax authorities to use the extension window to perfect plans to prosecute those who fail to regularize their tax status.

VAIDS is one of the key policies being used by the Federal Government to reposition the Nigerian economy and correct inherited underdevelopment.

#BBNaija 2018 Day 72: Was The Housemates Show Of Appreciation Real Or Fake?

Featured Image

The #bbnaija Housemates seem to have closed ranks and finally warmed up to each other when Big brother instructed them to show appreciation for each other.

During Diary Sessions, Biggie asked the remaining eight #bbnaija Housemates what they had learned about themselves from their teammates and the answers that came forth were quite revealing.

In a totally unexpected move, Khloe who was Voted back into the #bbnaija House, confessed to being moved to tears at the realisation that she was loved to ‘that extent’. Equally surprising, Cee-C said she had discovered that people actually saw her for who she was, and that it felt like a burden had been lifted off her.

While Tobi never suspected himself to be a ‘person of many talents’, he concurred to being a good listener, a quality he shared with Anto, whose authentic natural self was the most appreciated.

As this one in a lifetime adventure nears its end, the #bbnaija Housemates wholeheartedly plunged into the Task, spending time and care crafting nice sentiments for their peers.

Together with Miracle and Tobi, Alex wrote a touching poem to former Housemate Dee-One whose sense of humour had marked her the most. Likewise, Lolu penned a melodious ode for Bitto whose quirkiness was most missed in the House.

As pleasant and honeyed as the #bbnaija Housemates immersed themselves in the Task, one cannot help but wonder how many more of their buttons Biggie will push in the run-up to the ₦45 Million prize. Notjing but money is on the minds on everh single one of them.

WATCH: Mo Abudu Interview On CNN Discussing The Dahomey Warriors

Featured Image

This morning on CNN, the world’s premier news network, Isha Sesay asked Mo Abudu, CEO of EbonyLife TV, about her forthcoming series, The Dahomey Warriors.

Mo explained that EbonyLife TV was started as a means of changing the narrative about Africa, with its usual negative perceptions, and telling rich, powerful stories about the continent, its history and its influence on the world. Beginning six years ago, the channel came across amazing stories, including one about female elephant hunters in 1645, who developed into a feared fighting force and bodyguard to the ruler of the West African kingdom of Dahomey (part of modern-day Benin).

Development of the project led to the search for a suitable global production partner, which resulted in the deal with Sony Pictures Television in late March. The phenomenal success of Black Panther enabled both partners to see the potential of producing a story focused on these warrior women and the dramatic lives they must have led.

Mo Abudu

In response to a question about authenticity, Mo Abudu affirmed that casting would remain true to the aesthetic of the period and location of the story. “The blacker the better, with melanin popping,” was her hilarious response.

Also, Mo was quick to stress that Dahomey Warriors is the first of many stories that will come to our screens, as a result of the deal with Sony.

#BBNaija 2018 Day 72: Miseries At Being The Side Piece

Featured Image

It took some time for Miracle to address the comments Nina made about him when she described him as her ‘best friend’ in response to a question from #BBNaija Host Ebuka.

Miracle has proven that he was not one to fire out in all directions. On the contrary he has come across as one to carefully assess all elements before deciding on a course of action. However, during his Diary Session, and later on when he was gisting with his confidantes Alex and Tobi, he made no secret of his disappointment in Nina’s poor judgement.

For Miracle, his relationship with Nina was what it was on screen and perhaps even more. He said his intentions were always clear and consistent, but he could not for the life of him, explain the reason why Nina would keep him at a distance during the day only to sneak into his bed at night telling him sweet nothings.

Miracle said he had to clarify this point with Nina, as he advised her to simply tell the truth and not chicken out from who they really were in the #bbnaija house.

At the start of the #bbnaija game, the chemistry between Nina and Miracle seemed to be authentic, even though the two of them on a number of occasion had dropped the names of special ones outside the House.

And it’s only when Biggie unpaired them that after many pep talks, Nina started to come out of her shell and became more vocal. However in the past couple of weeks, perhaps sensing her imminent return into real life, she has increasingly been naming her boyfriend Collins and asking for his forgiveness in advance.

Which begs to ask whether Miracle was simply a pun for Nina in the #bbnaija house or her feelings and display were genuine.

Amaechi Reveals That He Earns N950,000 Per Month

Featured Image

The Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi has disclosed that he earns “only N950,000” per month as a minister in this current administration.

The minister brought this revelation to light on Tuesday at the presentation of a book titled, ‘Dignity in Service,’ authored by the late Matthew Mbu, a former minister of foreign affairs in Abuja.

According to him, out of the money, N350,000 is for accommodation, while the remaining N600,000 is paid to his staff.

Amaechi who was governor of Rivers State between 2007 and 2014, said President Muhammadu Buhari’s government had helped stop the culture of waste and lavish living amongst government officials.

He said, “A minister earns only N950, 000 a month. Out of this money, N350, 000 is for accommodation so there is no more money given to you. The remaining N600, 000 includes payment for your staff, personal assistants and all that.

“Nigerians like going to parties. That is one benefit of this government. We now assess our wealth and value money. Before, once you get money from the illegal means, we hold parties. There are very few parties these days because there is no more money to hold such parties.”

“There are no ‘owambe’ anymore because there is very little money to hold ‘owambe.’ The reason is that the ‘owambe’ money used to come from the government and there is no money in the government to do such.”

Stop Running From Killer Herdsmen… Defend Yourselves With Stones – Ortom Tells IDPs

Featured Image

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has urged the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), who were displaced due to Fulani herdsmen attacks, to go back home and use stones to defend themselves.

The Punch reports that Ortom said this on Tuesday when he visited the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Naka village in Gwer west local government area.

The governor, who said this because he was tired of keeping IDPs in Camps, explained that killings in the state had become one too many to such an extent that people were running from their homes.

Ortom stated that the killings were becoming uncontrollable and charged them to embrace self-defence.

He said, “David in the Bible used ordinary stone to defeat his enemy, it is now time for you to stay at home and use the stone in your homes to defend yourself instead of running away.

“I believe in the rule of law, equity and fairness, but I cannot continue to keep IDPs and l can’t afford to have another IDPs in Gwer West. This must stop. We must stop truncating the future of our younger generation.

“When we allow laws to be violated and nobody takes action, it then allows for impunity and when you give room to impunity, it will result to anarchy which will in turn breed a lawless society.

“Therefore, we the citizens must rise up to support the security agencies by way of providing lawful and necessary logistics such as information, equipment and financial support to back up their operations.

“Just yesterday (Monday), a soldier was killed in Guma, security agents are not spared. Security challenges are enormous. The gruesome murder of 24 people by Fulani herdsmen is quite condemnable.

“Time has come if you are willing to live in Benue State, you must be ready and willing to be law abiding.”

Busquets: Roma Loss The Worst Of My Career

Featured Image

Sergio Busquets has described the 3-0 away loss to Roma as the worst of his career, as they crashed out of the UCL on away goals.

Barcelona looked set to go through after a 4-1 home win at Camp Nou to hold the advantage, but they lost at the Stadio Olimpico 3-0 to crash out in the quarterfinals.

Goals from Edin Dzeko , Daniele De Rossi and Kostas Manolas sent the Giallorossi through, and Busquets has described it as the worst loss of his career.

Reflecting afterwards, Spain international midfielder Busquets told reporters: “Probably [the worst defeat of my career] because the way it was, and the result we had in the first game, with a good season we are having.

“But in the end, the important thing is game by game. We come from a good season, from a good dynamic but unfortunately today it has been cut short, and this is the end of our way in Champions League.”

“It’s very difficult to be honest,” Busquets added. “A sad night, one to forget. They beat us in all the ways, they took us where they wanted because they needed a big result, and unfortunately they got it.”

#BBNaija 2018 Day 72: Housemates Undertake A Kindness Challenge

Featured Image

The #bbnaija House has seen a number of funny moments and obligations being met in the Airtel task that big brother had them do on the afternoon of day 72.

As part of Airtel’s CSR objective of touching lives, the #bbnaija Housemates are to provide an act of kindness towards others.

Divided in pairs, Big brother instructed the Head of House to choose four people she feels are natural leaders in the #bbnaija House. After they were chosen, they had to choose whom they feel were their least favourite Housemate.

However, with Biggie and his surprises, he cautioned the paired partners not to make it easy for their leaders and they all but obliged.

Not long after, the buzzer continued to go off randomly and the paired followers have had their wishes granted and they seem to be enjoying every moment of being in the receiving end.

Notably, Khloe and Tobi have made the best of the requirements and the task is going easy for them. Tobi picked a card that required him to give her a massage and he did. Again, he picked another card that asked him to cook for her and she specifically asked for certain things, including cooking noodles on the Microwave which Tobi easily obliged.

For Lolu, it was rather a simple one but not so much because he was required to tell his paired partner something nice and from the heart. He told Nina how he admires her for breaking out of her shell and standing her ground whenever she feels she’s under attack from other #bbnaija Housemates.

The task continued for quite sometime and there were more than a few revelations and funny moments that saw the #bbnaija housemates digging dip for ideas and tasks that ensured they all got entertained while passing deep messages.

EFCC Charges Heritage Bank MD, Others To Court For N1bn Fraud

Featured Image
The Managing Director of Heritage Bank PLC, Ifiesimama Sekibo along with five others were charged before the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday for an alleged fraud of N1bn.

Sekibo was charged along with Dimire Dike, Wumi Adeniyi, Kolapo Daisi, Funmilayo Taiwo and Akeem Durotoye. The charges include conspiracy, stealing, obtaining money under false pretences and forgery amongst others according to reports.

The EFCC alleged that the defendants obtained the sum of N1bn from Heritage Bank Plc “by falsely representing the sum as proceeds of Vlamings Professional Limited’s investment in Heritage Bank Plc”. Accusing them of dishonestly converting the N1bn, being Heritage Bank’s property, to their own. They were accused of forging a document titled ‘RE: Expression of Interest in Agric Fund Management Scheme

According to the anti-graft agency, the defendants allegedly forged the document dated April 2, 2015, “purporting it to be a loan scheme executed in favour of Vlamings Professionals Limited”. The EFCC claimed that the defendants sent the document to it (EFCC), hoping it would be mistaken as genuine. They also allegedly forged another document titled, “Agric Management Scheme” purporting that it was approved by Heritage Bank Plc.

In the tenth count bordering on accessory to an act or offence contrary to sections 8(b) and 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other related offences Act, 2006, the EFCC accused Dike, Adeniyi and Akeem of “procuring false Heritage Bank agric fund scheme documents as a means of disguising the evidence against the said bank’s staff to enable them to escape prosecution”.

According to the EFCC’s counsel, Ekene Iheanacho, the defendants committed the offence between February 2015 and February 2017. The court has yet to fix a date for the arraignment of the defendants.

#BBNaija 2018 Day 72: Nina Struggles To Express Herself

Featured Image

Nina’s struggle to articulate what she means has now got her worried that Miracle, whom she referred to as her “best friend in the #bbnaija House” during Sunday night’s Eviction Show, might have gotten the message wrong.

She made it known to Alex that when Ebuka asked her what Miracle is to her, she didn’t know how or what kind of response he was looking for, which was why she opted to use the words ‘best friend’.

Even though she explained to Miracle what a best friend is to her, she says she still feels like he doesn’t get what she means.

In her words, “To me, whenever I have a boyfriend I refer to him as my best friend’ Nina told Alex.

Alex reassured her that any person who knows her will understand what she means because a boyfriend can be called a best friend and a brother.

The heart to heart between Nina and Alex was soon disturbed when Miracle wanted something from Alex and she couldn’t attend to him then.

Upon knowing what they were talking about, he decided to sit down and listen in, hoping to understand why Nina has revisited the issue.

In her defence, Nina replied that she wanted to hear what another person made of the issue, to which her #bbnaija House boyfriend said there’s no issue.

According to Nina, the uncertainty of what’s going to happen after Big Brother has her protecting what she knows.

Many times she’s made mention of ‘Collins’ whom she’s always referred to as her boyfriend and today she told Alex that as long as she’s inside the #bbnaija House she’ll keep protecting him even though she doesn’t know if he’ll be there when she leaves the big brother House.

#BBNaija 2018 Day 72: Alex Gets Served A Pill Of Her Own Medicine

Featured Image

For the first time in this season of double wahala Alex has been crowned Head of the #bbnaija House, but her fellow housemates have assured her that they will do unto her as she did to previous HOH’s.

In her Diary Session, she told Big brother that she was shocked that she got the title, but more than anything was delighted that she survived the last Nomination of the season, which ensured she will be at the finale.

Straight after the crowning of the Head of House, the #bbnaija Housemates expressed their feelings towards the new Head of House in their Diary Sessions and the common thread was that most were happy for Alex.

However, Cee-C spoke of how she does not really like the new HOH because she has drama which she has foumd difficult to understand.

However, she went on to mention that she feels that there will be a lot of drama, issues and problems because people are ready to give Alex what she’s always given to other HOH’s.

Cee-C hit the nail right on the head as Miracle told Big Brother that he’s always wanted Alex to be HOH only because he wants a chance to do unto her as she’s done when he was HOH. The pestering and demands that came from Alex are what he wants to return.

The #bbnaija Housemates are almost on the final stretch and Tobi couldn’t hold back his joy at Alex’s win, which saw him escape yet another Eviction.

Alex’s Immunity granted her the chance to Save one more person and it couldn’t have been anyone but Tobi as their alliance seems to be growing each day.

Lolu’s disappointment at getting this far and not having been able to win the Head Oof House crown didn’t hold him back from celebrating Alex’s victory. Also the ladies of the House, Anto, Nina and Khloe cheered for another lady winning and mentioned how good it feels when a lady wins the challenge.

Not so long ago Alex made a vow that no #bbnaija Housemate should sleep in the House when she’s awake and we’ve seen her pestering Miracle and Tobi when they were HOH. It will be interesting to see how she handles the pressures that come with the reins.

Nina also mentioned how she’s always wanted to see her in a leadership position. We wait to see how she responds to the pressure of her fellow #bbnaija housemates.
