VIDEO: What Buhari Told British PM Theresa May

Featured Image

President Muhammadu Buhari held a bilateral meeting on Nigeria–British relations with Prime Minister, Theresa May on Monday, April 16, at 10, Downing Street, London.

During the meeting, Buhari thanked the UK Prime Minister for the effort of the British government towards the training of the Nigerian Army in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents.

He told the Prime Minister that, “We campaigned on three major issues; to secure the country, revive the economy and fight corruption.

“We have elections next year, politicians are already preoccupied with the polls, but I am bothered more about security and the economy.”

Recalling that Nigeria and Britain have a long history of cooperation on several fronts, President Buhari stated: “People ought to know how they arrived where they are, if they would move forward. It was a mistake for us to have stopped the teaching of history as a subject in schools, but we are returning it to the curriculum now.

He commended British companies “who have stood with Nigeria through thick and thin. Even when we fought a Civil War, they never left.

“But like Oliver Twist, we ask for more investments. We are encouraging more British companies to come to Nigeria. We appreciate the support you have given in training and equipping our military, particularly in the war against insurgency, but we want to also continue to work with you on trade and investment.

President Buhari briefed Prime Minister May on the strides in agriculture, which he said has put Nigeria firmly on the road to food self-sufficiency.

“I am very pleased with the successes in agriculture,” he said, adding that, “We have cut rice importation by about 90%, made lots of savings of foreign exchange, and generated employment. People had rushed to the cities to get oil money, at the expense of farming. But luckily, they are now going back to the farms. Even professionals are going back to the land. We are making steady progress on the road to food security.”

On education, President Buhari said more investment was being made, because, “people can look after themselves if well educated. In this age of technology, education is very important. We need well-staffed and well-equipped institutions to move into the next generation.

Climate change and environmental issues also came up for discussion, and President Buhari brought up the necessity of inter-basin water transfer from Congo Basin to Lake Chad.

“The Lake Chad is now about 10% of its original size, and it is perhaps one of the reasons our youths dare both the Sahara Desert and the Mediterranean, to get to Europe. But if there is inter-basin water transfer, about 40 million people in Nigeria, Niger, Cameroon, Chad, and other countries stand to benefit. I made the case during the Climate Change Summit in France. If Lake Chad is recharged, it will reduce the number of youths coming to Europe to increase social problems. We brought back about 4,000 people from Libya recently. Almost all of them were below 30, and Libya was not their final destination. They were headed to Europe,” he said.

#BBNaija 2018 Day 77: Tobi And Lolu Wear Their Hearts On Their Sleeves

Featured Image

While countries make use lighthouses to mark their oceanic atolls, Lolu and Tobi seems to have opted for bracelets to mark his emotional atolls in the #bbnaija house.

Lolu wore his wordsmith charm as cologne and gunned for Anto almost at first sight; with his intellect flavoured advances seeming to appeal to her on different levels.

All this courting and smooth talking took place in full view of the bracelets he’d worn since inception and according to his mini heart-to-heart with Alex, they were a gift from a young somebody who seemed to have been cupping his heart.

Their sentimental value was further confirmed by a very emotional diary session during which he reminded this ‘special’ person that he loved them regardless of what happens in the #bbnaija House.

Despite her very blatant and often tough-love resistance to Lolu’s advances, Anto was literally shoved not only by the fact that he had led her to believing that she was about the only apple of his eye, but by the fact that whatever he had going on outside was sealed with a couple of bracelets that he’d been wearing while courting her; which is probably the reason why she had him get rid of them.

Just like Lolu, Tobi seems to have placed heavy amounts of sentimental value on bracelets because if this was a crime, he’d be convicted for two counts. The first having taken place during his smitten phase with Cee-C in the #bbnaija house.

He’d clearly fallen hard for Cee-C and while there wasn’t much to give, his black beaded bracelet was all he could offer. She too was very receptive because despite the constant quarrelling and bashing, she wore the bracelet faithfully.

Not even by the trajectory of the wagon can we categorise this second count because Tobi seems to have found in Alex the amount of comfort a guy only ever finds in a romantic partner.

While their connection is ‘not-so-obviously’ friendship, Tobi poured his ‘appreciation’ into decorating Alex’s wrist with a golden bracelet he’d apparently been given by his father.

This gesture is obviously only extendable to those one holds within close emotional proximities, and judging by the velocity of this wind, Alex has earned herself a special place in Tobi’s heart. Only time will tell if that special place will lead to romantic attachment between the two.

BREAKING: One Reported Dead As Police, Shiite Members Clash In Abuja (VIDEO)

Featured Image

There are reports of an ongoing clash between security forces and members of the Shiite movement in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

This is after the protesters stormed the Institute For Peace and Conflict Resolution Abuja, in Abogo Largema a Central business district area in Abuja.

A witness told TheCable that the deceased was an IMN member.

“He was shot dead while trying to gain access to the Unity Fountain alongside members of the sect,” the witness said.

On Friday, the police announced a ban on protests at the garden but IMN members assembled around the place on Monday but were denied access.

Members of the Shiite movement are demanding the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and lamenting over his continued detention without trail for over two years.

It was gathered that the protesters started the movement from the Unity Fountain, beside Transcorp hotel.

In an attempt to halt the protest, it is understood that police officers made use of teargas in other to forcefully disperse the protesters.

This eventually led to resistance, forcing the protesters to throw stones at the police patrol vehicle.

It was also gathered that a bullet fired by one of the officers pierced the window of an office at the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) headquarters.

Konga, Yudala In Landmark Merger To Strengthen E-Commerce

Featured Image

Konga, Nigeria’s largest online mall, and Yudala, Africa’s pioneer composite e-commerce company, have officially announced a merger of their operations in a landmark industry achievement that sees them effectively become the biggest organised retail and e-commerce/marketplace outfit on the African continent.

The business merger, which takes effect from May 1, will see both companies operate under the Konga brand name, and market watchers have posited that the merger is positioned to further strengthen Nigeria’s eCommerce sector, estimated to worth $13 billion currently, with over 400,000 orders daily.

The strategic decision, which was inked on Sunday in Lagos, will see both companies leverage the combined strengths of both platforms and is expected to further broaden the scope of organized retail and e-commerce in Nigeria.

“Combining forces to power the new Konga will enable us effectively achieve our goals of platform expansion and accelerated growth, as we embark on an ambitious journey to redefine the retail ecosystem with the industry’s most advanced technology,” disclosed Konga Chairman, Olusiji Ijogun.

He said: “Effective from May 1, Yudala, will now operate under the name KONGA, with dual CEOs in the persons of Nick Imudia who will be in charge of online among others while Prince Nnamdi Ekeh will be responsible for offline. This merger will further strengthen our position in the Nigerian retail market as we creatively position Konga as the first profitable e-commerce company in Africa.

“The efficiency of Konga’s cutting-edge online platform, access to thousands of merchants and Yudala’s expansive network of fully stocked offline stores is poised to give our customers the best shopping experience imaginable. We will be working closely with all our combined clients, customers, merchants and employees to make the integration process as seamless as possible and thereafter make public our road map to sustain our leadership on the continent,” Ijogun said.

Zinox Group, which owns Yudala, had on February 3, acquired 100 per cent stake in Konga and now brought both eCommerce players together.

According to Zinox Group, one of the exciting benefits of this merger is the possibility it offers prospective shoppers to order online, pay and pick-up the product(s) at the nearest Konga offline store.

#ThePVCTask: N-Power Urges Beneficiaries To Get PVCs

Featured Image

With less than a year to the 2019 general elections, N-Power, Federal Government’s youth empowerment programme, has called on its beneficiaries to get their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs).

The scheme took to its official Twitter account to announce this on Monday, April 16, 2018.

N-power further urged beneficiaries to ensure their families and friends get their PVCs.

It reminded beneficiaries of their civic right which is to vote and be voted for, hence the need to get their PVCs.

The tweet reads, “As a citizen, you have the right to vote and be voted for. To exercise your right to vote, you require your PVC.

“Please get your PVC, get your family and friends to get their PVC.

“You are N-Power beneficiaries and you have been given #ThePVCTask.

“Get it.”

Some days back, the Federal Government empowerment scheme offered explanation on why stipends of some beneficiaries were deducted.

”A few beneficiaries will have noticed a deduction in their stipends.

”You will recall that the Federal Government entered into a 20-month Assest Finance Agreement with the Bank of Industry for the N-Power devices.

”Beneficiaries who selected the Tecno and Speedstar devices incurred additional monthly charges over and beyond the N4,500 monthly device credit voucher of the FG.

”Consequently, the additional costs will be deducted from their stipends between the months of March and July, 2018,” it had said.

The Nigerian Army has denied claims of nepotism, discrimination and rejection of some ethnic groups from the ongoing nationwide recruitment exercise.

It also stressed that the allegation making rounds in the social media was not only untrue, but unfounded and unsubstantiated.

In a statement issued on Saturday by Its Spokesman, Brig.-Gen. Texas Chukwu, the Army also said the false claim was the handiwork of unscrupulous elements attempting to drag the good image of the Army in the mud, adding that all the candidates from Demsa, Numan, Lamurde and Girei Local Government councils are currently participating in the ongoing recruitment exercise like any other candidates.

The statement read: “For avoidance of doubt and to put the record straight, the Nigerian Army wishes to state that every eligible Nigerians are qualified to be recruited into the Nigerian Army providing such individual meet the set down standard meant for the recruitment.”

“That the Nigerian Army would ever remain apolitical in the discharge of its constitutional roles in aid of civil authority.

“Furthermore, no state of the Federation including, Adamawa State that would be exempted as alleged by the mischief makers.

“All the candidates for the recruitment exercise from Demsa, Numan, Lamurde and Girei Local Government Areas are currently participating in the ongoing recruitment exercise like any other candidates.

“The Nigerian Army wish to advised all well meaning citizens to disregard such an unfounded allegation which is an imagination of the writer.

“The allegation that the Nigerian Army selected a particular ethnic group from the South Eastern part of the country is completely false and has no bases. It is important to note that the Nigerian Army does not support any religion or tribe.

“The Army operates as an entity no matter your tribe or religion. Therefore, there is no iota of truth in the said allegation.

“The Nigerian Army once again stated its total commitment in protecting the sovereignty of the nation as well as carrying out its constitutional roles according to the constitution.”

Polytechnic Lecturer Writes Buhari, Renounces Nigerian Citizenship

Featured Image

A lecturer at the Department of Ceramics and Glass Technology, Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwana, Afikpo, Ebonyi, Victor Koreyo, has declared his intention to renounce his Nigerian citizenship for what he called social injustice.

This he said in a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, which was made available to newsmen in Abuja.

According to him, he was demoted for a period of eight years by the management of the institution and urged the president to endorse his request.

Koreyo, from Nassarawa state, said a directive was given by the Federal Government in 2007 directing all lecturers to produce additional qualification relevant to the job they do.

Against that background, the 7th Governing Council of the institution gave Koreyo two years to produce a foreign institution master degree in Ceramic Science and Engineering or he would be dismissed from service.

He said that the management of the polytechnic refused to communicate the information to him in written.

He alleged that since 2010 till date, the institutions had refused to approve his application for staff development opportunity because the Igbo constituted principal officers in the school.

“I love to continue as a citizen of this great nation on earth. But since I do not have the financial power or connection to challenge the rector to obey the federal government’s directives in my favour, I decided to take this peaceful action,” he said.

“I believe this peaceful action and step of honour will prevent the rector from killing me by premeditated frustration of my constitutional rights to social justice as the citizen of Nigeria. I have nursed this feeling of suicide to end these eight years of frustration by the rector and officials of the Akanu Ibiam polytechnic division of tertiary education department of the federal ministry of education.

“And have decided the renunciation of my citizenship by birth will be the best way to peacefully end my quest for social justice at the ministry of education and finally resign from federal public service of Nigeria.”

Trump Invites Buhari To White House On April 30

Featured Image

U.S. President Donald Trump would host President Muhammadu Buhari on April 30, the White House announced in a statement it issued on Sunday evening.

The meeting comes weeks after Rex Tillerson, then U.S. secretary of state, visited Nigeria and other African countries in March only to be fired after his return to Washington.

Tillerson’s trip was part of attempts to smooth relations after Trump reportedly dismissed some African nations as “shithole countries” in January. Trump later denied making the comment.

In the statement, the White House said Mr Buhari would meet Mr Trump at Washington to discuss issues including “fighting terrorism” and economic growth.

“President Trump looks forward to discussing ways to enhance our strategic partnership and advance our shared priorities:

“Promoting economic growth and reforms, fighting terrorism and other threats to peace and security, and building on Nigeria’s role as a democratic leader in the region.

“The relationship of the United States with Nigeria is deep and strong, and Nigeria’s economic growth, security, and leadership in Africa will advance our mutual prosperity,” the statement read in part.

Nigeria, West Africa’s largest economy, is among the countries combatting Islamist extremism with help from the United States.

The nation is battling an array of security threats across its territory, from Boko Haram jihadists in the northeast to oil militants in the south.

#BBNaija 2018 Day 77: Why More Female Housemates Survived Eviction

Featured Image

Asides the fact that females are known to have a longer life expectancy thanks to finding the most pleasure in curating calorie-free diets, colour-coded living spaces, makeup on fleek and choosing patterns appealing to the eye instead of deriving fixes from jumping off cliffs and drag-racing, women tend to outdo men on a lot of fronts and the #bbnaija house is no different.

The #bbnaija Game started on a rather noisy note when not one but two Xs marked the spot. With 20 Housemates battling it out for both the gold and the glory.

One group was bound to bag the turf advantages; ‘turf’ not because any of them were familiar with the dynamics, but because of having greater chances of holding their own; nibbling on crumbs and dust if need be.

Furthermore, almost all the quarrels in the #bbnaija House were sourced from the girls, fed by the girls and very seldom buried by the girls. This of course sky rocketed the amount of pressure exerted in the House, prompting everyone to draw out their weapons while fake smiling; having the viewers anticipate when the next rounds of fight would be.

Moreover, very seldom did we hear any of the guys raising their voices and blurting out on each other’s flaws for the entire Household to take note. However when it came to the girls, it was an entirely different story.

The males of the #bbnaija house need to be appreciated for their resilience because they definitely came in hard strategically and put in the physical work that saw them tallying high up with the Head of House wins, Task victories and Arena Millions.

However, survival remains the ultimate goal of the #bbnaija game and those ropes are held securely by the girls.

#BBNaija 2018 Day 77: Miracle Wins As Housemates Lose Their Wager

Featured Image

Biggie called the #bbnaija House into the Arena, where ten suitcases were lined up, awaiting for the eight remaining Housemates to open them.

The aim was for the #bbnaija Housemates to secure another Wager victory, in light of a slight twist: each suitcase contained a small gifts, but only one held a cash reward.

Biggie instructed Housemates that whoever opened the suitcase containing the money reward would have a claim on the reward, yet also automatically imply that the entire #bbnaija House lost the Wager.

At the sound of the buzzer Housemates came forward and had two minutes to take position behind their chosen luggage. The suspense kept everyone on their toes, as they touched, lifted and shook the cases in their hands – all in the full awareness they were not to open any until instructed so by Biggie.

Then Biggie instructed Housemates to open their numbered suitcases to reveal the content.

While Nina and Tobi had difficulties opening theirs, Miracle looked unsure whether to smile or not upon learning he had won a two hundred thousand Naira, for it also meant the entire House had lost the totality of their Wager.

Meanwhile Biggie had called Lolu, Tobi, Miracle, Nina and Alex back to the lounge, leaving Anto, Khloe and Cee-C standing in the Arena, waiting to find out their fate.

At the end of it all, Anto, Khloe and Lolu got evicted from the #bbnaija house.

#BBNaija 2018 Day 77: Anto, Khloe And Lolu Are Evicted From The House

Featured Image

Anto and Khloe who had been voted back into the #bbnaija House to great acclaim by the #BBBringBack campaign had their dreams come to an end, including that of fellow housemate, Lolu. Just a few days ago, the two had been speculating about the possibility of not making it to the Finale, just as Lolu also had fears of not making it to the finale.

For Khloe, the night of day 77 marked her first Eviction. Khloe one of the two #bbnaija Housemates to have been Disqualified earlier in the season and Anto had returned into the House determined to give the best of themselves.

While Khloe’s sensible and caring side came out more, Anto’s leadership and vulnerability will remain in the #BBNaija chronicles.

For some reason, Lolu had also anticipated his own Eviction having confessed an unusual nervousness. The self-effaced geeky #bbnaija Housemate had entered the House with his simple and unpretentious manners that could nonetheless not be discarded by any of the other more flamboyant characters.

If anything, thanks to his irresistible brains, Lolu has all but offered some sort of sweet revenge to all those whose need for love has gone unfulfilled by winning the minds and hearts of his peers.

While it is hard to see some of these housemates leave the house, especially since it is juat a week to the grand finale, it is hoped that they can take their experiences from the #bbnaija house to have a happier and brigther future.
