Manchester City “Are From Another Planet” – Carlos Carvalhal

Featured Image

Swansea City manager Carlos Carvalhal has defended his side’s 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Manchester City by insisting that losing heavily is natural

Swansea were two down with 16 minutes played and shipped a further three in the second half as the Citizens celebrated their Premier League title success in style.

Kevin De Bruyne scored the pick of the bunch at the Etihad Stadium, netting a 25-yard drive for the third of those goals, and Carlos Carvalhal admits that Swansea simply have to take their latest setback on the chin.

“This is the 14th time this season that Manchester City have won by more than three goals, sometimes by four, five, six or seven so they are from another planet in this competition,” he told Sky Sports News after the match.

“We tried to played honest but for the first two goals they discovered places where other teams would find difficulties, the third goal is amazing from Kevin De Bruyne. I think we had three or four situations where we could have achieved a goal.

“We blocked very well with the lines, but the first and second goals they discover different place with the individual quality of the players they have. I wasn’t happy after half an hour but after 30 mins we started to play a little more.

“In general it was a very difficult game like we expected. We knew it would difficult to achieve points if we got one it would be a big bonus because nobody achieves points here except Manchester United. We have four games left to play, some teams have just three so everything is in our hands to stay up.”

Mohamed Elneny Injury ‘Does Not Look Good’ – Arsene Wenger

Featured Image

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says Mohamed Elneny’s ankle injury “doesn’t look too good” but that it is too soon know if it will threaten his World Cup chances with Egypt.

Mohamed Elneny was carried off on a stretcher during Sunday’s 4-1 Premier League win against West Ham, less than two months before he is due at the World Cup with Egypt.

“Unfortunately it doesn’t look too good,” Wenger said. “He has an X-ray, but I don’t know how bad it is. But it doesn’t look too good.”

Mohamed Elneny, who was initially suspended for this game before having a red card from Arsenal’s last home game against Southampton overturned, had his ankle in a boot as he was carried off and looked to be in serious pain.

The Egyptian could face a race against time to be fit for the World Cup. He is one of Egypt’s key players, having started all six of their World Cup qualifiers and 11 of their 14 full internationals in 2017.

Egypt qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1990 and open their Group A campaign on June 15 against Uruguay

Elneny’s form this season saw him rewarded with a new long-term contract last month, taking him through until the summer of 2022.

Manchester United Do Not Need New Players To Rival Manchester City- Romelu Lukaku

Featured Image

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has insisted that the club’s current squad is good enough to rival Manchester City for the Premier League title next season.

Manchester United are  16 points behind their neighbours, Manchester City who were crowned champions last weekend with a joint-record five games left to play.

United have been tipped to spend big once again this summer to bridge the gap, with Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic reportedly high on their list of targets, but Lukaku is sure that the current crop of players have it in them to learn from this campaign and go one better in 2018-19.

Asked what it will take to catch City, the Belgian told reporters: “I don’t know, you’d have to ask the manager. I’m really confident in my teammates. I think we can do it with the team we have now, but we should have showed more consistency throughout the season.

“For us now it is up to us to be more consistent. The manager needs to see if he has to add more players but with the players we have now, I think we have enough. We just have to be more consistent.”

Andres Iniesta Decision Must Be Respected – Ivan Rakitic

Featured Image

Ivan Rakitic has admitted that he wants Andres Iniesta to stay at Barcelona, but says that his teammate’s final decision “will be respected” either way.

Andres Iniesta is due to make an announcement in the coming days regarding his future beyond the end of this season, amid strong links with a move to the Chinese Super League.

Iniesta has made 670 appearances for Barca and won 31 trophies in his 16 years in the first-team fold, and Rakitic wants the Spaniard to prolong his Camp Nou stay after playing a key part in the 5-0 Copa del Rey final win over Sevilla.

“I don’t know [if he’ll stay],” he told reporters. “I hope he doesn’t leave. He knows it, I think fans want him with us as much as I want that, but as I always said he has to make a choice, he has to discuss it with his family. His decision will be respected by all of us.”

Patrick Vieira Is Qualified To Manage Arsenal – Pep Guardiola

Featured Image

Pep Guardiola believes that Patrick Vieira is capable of succeeding Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, though the New York City FC boss distanced himself from speculation linking him to the job.

Wenger on Friday announced his intentions to leave the Emirates after 22 years this summer

Man City and NYCFC are affiliated through parent company City Football Group, and Guardiola said that after Vieira’s success in MLS, the former Arsenal captain can be an elite coach.

“Of course, he already is [a top manager],” Guardiola told reporters. “Now, with what happened [at Arsenal], there is a lot of names there. Arsenal is going to take the best decision for them.

“But, of course, he is ready. I think all the names that are going to start to go — this name or this name or the other one — all of them, they are ready.”

But Vieira, a former Arsenal captain now managing NYCFC in Major League Soccer, played it cool when asked about the job by radio station WNYE.

“I spent nine years at Arsenal which makes the club really special for me,” he said. “But that is not enough to coach the team. I am always flattered to hear my name linked. That is good for your ego, but at the same time, I am happy here.”

Chelsea Will Probably Miss Out On The UEFA Champions League – Antonio Conte

Featured Image

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has claimed that the club will “probably” miss out on a place in next season’s Champions League.

Antonio Conte was speaking after his side’s 2-0 win over Southampton in the semi-finals of the FA Cup, which kept them in the hunt for silverware this term.

Chelsea currently sit five points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur with four Premier League games left, and are out of European competition.

Although Conte acknowledged that the top four remains a target for the Blues, he appeared to suggest that the FA Cup final was solace for the fans, given the club’s lacklustre league campaign.

“We deserved to win the game and reach a second cup final in a row,” the Italian told BBC Sport. “We are very pleased to reach the final, especially for our fans, they are the first to deserve this satisfaction.

“Now our target is to try and put a bit of pressure on the teams in front of us in the Premier League and get a place in the Champions League and finish as best as possible.

“It’s important for us to reach a final in this competition especially because we are struggling a lot in the league. In the (EFL) Cup we reached the semi-final and in the league we dropped a lot of points and probably next season we will play in the Europa League and not the Champions League.”

Southampton Manager Mark Hughes Discusses His Side’s 2-0 Defeat To Chelsea

Featured Image

Southampton manager Mark Hughes has expressed his dismay at two incidents in his side’s FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea which he felt let the Blues off the hook.

Chelsea ran out 2-0 winners over the Saints in Sunday’s clash at Wembley, Olivier Giroud opening the scoring on 46 minutes and Alvaro Morata doubling their tally eight minutes from time.

However, believes that the 72nd-minute incident in which Willy Caballero fumbled the ball over the line should not have culminated in Martin Atkinson penalising Charlie Austin for a push.

In addition, Mark Hughes pointed out Giroud’s apparent handball from a corner three minutes earlier, which went unpunished, and stressed that Southampton were “hard done by” due to the referee’s decisions.

“In the first half we didn’t quite affect Chelsea as much as we talked about before the game so we were reasonably pleased to come in at half-time with it goalless,” Hughes told BT Sport.

“Coming out and conceding early… the response was very good, obviously we’re disappointed by the nature of it, after 30 seconds or so. We got a response but we didn’t get any luck.

“The keeper Willy Caballero made a glaring mistake, he dropped it down his chest – I’d have thought that was a clear situation that needed to be reviewed. I don’t know how they made that decision so quickly, Charlie Austin did nothing wrong. And there was a handball from the following corner by Olivier Giroud, so we feel hard done by.

“Giroud handled from the following corner, another they could have reviewed, but maybe that was a bit too quick for him.

“We’re disappointed with the officials on the day, and whoever it is who sits in a darkened room.

“We will speak (to the officials). I’m not sure how the process works. Does the referee make an instant decision? Do they tell him?”

“Conceding the first goal was always going to be detrimental. We took a centre-back off and they were able to capitalise with a second goal. We have a huge game next weekend and the focus now is putting this disappointment behind us very very quickly.”

‘Hurtful’ Supporters Have Damaged Arsenal’s Image – Arsene Wenger

Featured Image

Arsene Wenger has admitted that Arsenal supporters campaigning for the manager’s removal had created a “hurtful” atmosphere that was damaging the club’s reputation on a worldwide scale.

Arsene Wenger announced on Friday that he would step down as Gunners manager at the end of the season after almost 22 years in charge.

Arsenal finished outside the Premier League’s top four last term for the first time since Wenger arrived at the club, and are now 11 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur with four matches remaining.

Supporters of the club have been increasingly vocal in their criticism of Wenger in recent years and, speaking after Sunday’s 4-1 win over West Ham United, the veteran coach made his feelings heard.

“I was not tired,” Wenger told BBC Sport when asked about his decision to quit.

“Personally I believe this club is respected all over the world, much more than in England. The fans did not give me the image of unity I want all over the world and that was hurtful because I think the club is respected.

“I’m not resentful and I do not want to make stupid headlines. I’m not resentful with the fans, I just feel if my personality is in the way of what I think our club is, for me that is more important than me.

“That is what I want to say, it is nothing to do with the fans. The fans were not happy – I can understand that. That is my job and I have to live with that, I can accept that.”

Asked how damaging it had been for the club, he said: “I don’t know if it was damaging but it was not corresponding to how I feel our club is perceived – and has to be perceived – all over the world. If you travel with us – and I travel a lot – this club is respected all over the world and that is down to work, the way we play football, the way we behave and the way we treat people. I want that to go on, to be respected and to give the image I think is right. It is more than the money, more than the result. It is the way the club is received and the impression it leaves all over the world.”

Olivier Giroud Targets His First FA Cup Trophy With Chelsea

Featured Image

Olivier Giroud has now targeted his first FA Cup victory with Chelsea after helping his side overcome Southampton to book a place in the final.

Olivier Giroud scored a spectacular opener early in the second half of Sunday’s semi-final at Wembley Stadium, weaving past four Saints players and slotting home from Eden Hazard‘s pass.

Alvaro Morata added a second to secure a 2-0 win for Chelsea, ensuring that Antonio Conte‘s charges would go through to face Manchester United on May 19.

Giroud, who has won three FA Cups with previous club Arsenal, gave his thoughts on the game at full time, insisting that his goal was no fluke, and looked ahead to the final in four weeks’ time.

“We played a good first half but couldn’t finish the job and put it in the back of the net,” Giroud told BBC Sport. “The boss told us ‘keep going, play your game and it’s going to happen’.

“Eden gave me a good ball so I wanted to try something, I could see the defenders, it was lucky but yes, it’s what I wanted to do.

“I said to the boys I really want to win another FA Cup with Chelsea, that’s the target. We want to win this trophy, it’s a special competition and for me as well. We will look forward for this amazing final.”

Chelsea Want To Finish In The Top-four And Win FA Cup – Eden Hazard

Featured Image

Chelsea star Eden Hazard has stressed that they want to finish the season in the top four of the Premier League and also win the FA Cup

Chelsea currently sit fifth in the table, five points behind Tottenham Hotspur and with four league games left to play this season.

On Sunday, Antonio Conte‘s charges booked a place in the final of the FA Cup with a 2-0 win over Southampton, and will meet Manchester United at Wembley Stadium on May 19.

Hazard was pleased to see Chelsea remain in with a shout of silverware this season and insists that the players will not settle for anything less than a top-four league finish and the cup.

“We gave everything,” the Belgium international told BBC Sport. “We played very good football, especially in the second half, and controlled the game.

“Now we go to the final and for the championship (Premier League) again, and then we can think about the final against Manchester United.

“Southampton have good players, really good, so we had to be aware every time they had the ball and when you can score the second to close the game you have to do it.

“We will enjoy the final now… we want to finish in the top four and win the FA Cup, that’s the target.”

I Have No Problem With Jose Mourinho- Antonio Conte

Featured Image

Antonio Conte has attempted to play down his feud with Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho by insisting that he has ‘no problem’ with him.

Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho have developed a rivalry that has continued into the 2017-18 campaign, peaking when Conte described his opposite number as “a little man” and “fake”.

After seeing his side book a place in next month’s FA Cup final against United with a 2-0 win over Southampton, however, the Italian stressed that his falling out with Mourinho is now in the past.

“With Jose we have clarified the situation, that’s the most important thing,” he told reporters. “There is not a problem between him and I. This final is a game between two great teams, Manchester United and Chelsea.

“For sure in my mind I can tell you that we played last season as favourites, I think this season you arrive not as favourites. We are talking about two managers with strong characters, two winners.

“In your blood and heart there is a will to win. We both want to win this trophy. I have great respect for United’s story, for Mourinho’s story and they have the same respect for ours.”

The True Reason Chidinma Left Capital Hills Records – Ill Bliss Reveals

Featured Image

One of the co-founders of Capital Hills Records, Ill Bliss has disclosed the real reason Chidinma Ekile is no longer with the label.

It was considered a shocking news when the reports of Chidinma’s exit from a record label that shaped her career after project fame broke out. It was believed that she was going to establish her own label or better join another big record label.

In a recent interview with Sunday Scoop, co-owner of Capital Hill Records, Ill Bliss, stated that it was the decision of the record company not to renew Chidinma’s contract when it expired.

The rapper said;

“Chidinma didn’t just wake up one morning and leave the record label. Didn’t you guys see that the relationship degenerated? Her contract expired with Capital Hill and we did not want to renew it. We are the record company; so, we decide what to do with an artiste we create.”

According to him, there was no plan to be keeping artistes for a long time when Capital Hill Records was established.

“From the start, Clarence Peters and I didn’t plan to keep artistes for too long. Phyno stayed for a year too. There is always a problem when you start to keep an artiste for too long because you want to recoup all the money you invested in him or her and make a huge profit too. We made some good money from these artistes; we made enough money to break even and cover all our expenses,” he said.

He further stated that when Chidinma’s contract expired after seven years with the company, they believed she needed to build her own team:

“Chidnma knows where to find us and she knows we will always help her if she needs our help. We only have me and Mz Kiss on the label at the moment,” Ill Bliss added.

World Bank Says ‘118 Million Nigerian Adults Don’t Have Bank Accounts’

Featured Image

The World Bank has in a recent data it provided said that over 118 million Nigerian adults do not have bank accounts.

In a report released on Thursday at the ongoing Spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank in Washington DC and made available in the latest Global Findex Database, the apex bank said only 40 percent of Nigerian adults have bank accounts.

It said Nigeria and six other countries are home to nearly half of the 1.7 billion people who do not have bank accounts.

“Globally, about 1.7 billion adults remain unbanked—without an account at a financial institution or through a mobile money provider. Indeed, nearly half live in just seven developing economies: Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Nigeria, and Pakistan,” the report read.

“The gap between men and women in developing economies remains unchanged since 2011, at 9 percentage points.”

Bear in mind that the National Population Commission (NPC) pegs Nigeria’s estimated population at 198 million, the seventh largest in the world.

TheCable further quoted the Bretton Wood institution as saying that most people in sub-Saharan African countries save for a business in contrast to adults in high-income economies who save for old age.

“Nearly half of adults in high-income economies reported saving for old age. In developing economies only 16 percent did. Saving for a business is more common in many Sub-Saharan African economies— reported by 29 percent or more of adults in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Nigeria, for example,” the report read.

4 Feared Dead As Boko Haram Bombs Bama Mosque

Featured Image

No less than two suicide bombers (Male and female) between the ages of 13 to 14 years and two worshippers lost their lives when suicide bombers suspected to be masterminded by Boko Haram Terrorists invaded a mosque around Bama Dina area of Shehuri /Mairi/ Hausari ward of Bama Local Government Area of Borno state.

It is also understood that many other worshippers sustained injuries in the attack which happened around 5:30am.

An official of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ali Abacha, confirmed the incident to newsmen, adding that it was a suicide attack.

Abacha said two female bombers sneaked into the mosque at the time Muslim faithful were observing early morning prayers.

“Those injured were rushed to the Military Hospital in Bama while some of the dead were identified by their family members and taken for burial in line with Islamic injunction,” he said.

Sources however disputed the number of casualties, insisting that so many people were killed and injured in the attacks.

But the Caretaker Chairman of Bama Council, BaShehu Gulumba who said, normalcy have been restored confirmed that two suicide bombers and two innocent civilians were killed with 10 other people sustained injuries in the blasts.

“Two suspected Boko Haram bombers pretended to be worshippers and they blew up themselves and killed 4 civilians and 7 others injured,” a member of vigilance group helping soldiers to fight the insurgents, the Civilian JTF also said.

Greener Pastures! ‘2,000 Medical Doctors Dump Nigeria Yearly For UK, US

Featured Image

A report is saying that at least 2,000 medical doctors in Nigeria leave the country yearly for the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), and South Africa.

Nigerian Guardian reported this on the back of concerns by stakeholders in the country’s health sector over the alarming rate at which Nigerian physicians are trooping abroad in search of greener pastures.

During separate interviews with the prominent news outlet, the stakeholders in the health sectors shed light on the urgency of the situation, calling on the Federal Government to do more to save the nation’s health infrastructure.

“This is cataclysmic, given the fact that currently, contrary to the recommendations of the World Health Organisation (WHO) of a ratio of one doctor to 600 patients, Nigeria has a ratio of one doctor to 6,000 patients.

“This poor doctor-patient ratio is regrettable when compared to the ratio of doctor to patients in India (1:2083) and in the United States (1:500).”

It is understood that according to figures released February 2018 by the British government, no fewer than 5,405 Nigerian-trained doctors and nurses are currently working with the British National Health Service (NHS) in the United Kingdom (U.K.).

This means that Nigerian medics constitute 3.9 per cent of the 137,000 foreign staff of 202 nationalities working alongside British doctors and nurses.

A Consultant Neurological Surgeon, Brain and Spine Surgery Consortium Abuja, Dr. Biodun Ogungbo, regretted that fresh doctors no longer see a bright future within the shores of Nigeria.

“The conditions of work are poor.”

“The facilities are poor and the remunerations are poor. Many doctors are breadwinners in their families but are unable to deliver family expectations,” he said.

He advised: “The government needs to take healthcare seriously and make it a major priority in view of its critical importance to our lives. The amount budgeted for health must be increased. Better financing translates to more remuneration for health workers, increased training opportunities for doctors, availability of equipment and other consumables.”

The FA Cup Will Be More Difficult To Win This Year – Antonio Conte

Featured Image

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has claimed that the FA Cup will be harder to win this year and admits that the Blues missed out on a golden opportunity to claim the trophy last season.

Chelsea were beaten by Arsenal in the 2017 final at Wembley Stadium and Conte is adamant that his side – which had recently been crowned Premier League champions – should have triumphed.

Nonetheless, Chelsea could reach their second successive final on Sunday if they beat top-flight strugglers Southampton, with the winner facing Manchester United on May 19.

“Last season we missed a great chance to win the FA Cup and we could have done better,” Conte, speaking ahead of United’s 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, told Sky Sports News.

“If we can win against Southampton and reach the final then I think it will be more difficult against Tottenham or Manchester United.

“Last season we were in the best condition to win the FA Cup but we missed that chance and it was our fault. At that moment we were stronger than them. This season it will be more difficult.

“I remember that some refereeing decisions weren’t good because the first goal they scored was handball for Alexis Sanchez.

“We finished the game with 10 men and because of this we conceded the goal at the last. Arsenal did a great job to win the FA Cup.”

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu confirmed after the game that Iniesta has received an offer from a Chinese Super League club, with multiple reports identifying the interested team as Chongqing Lifan.

Fans from both clubs stood, applauded and sang for Iniesta when he was substituted late in the game, and the 33-year-old said the time has nearly arrived to make his decision public.

“This week I will make the decision public,” Iniesta said after the game, according to Mundo Deportivo. “There are many emotions, many feelings, many years — I’m happy to be able to give this image and the title. Today the people deserved this.

“I am happy personally and at a collective level. There are very strong emotions, the affection and respect that people have for me is something that I am very much grateful for. As I said, I will try to add this cup to the league.

“This week I will speak about the decision I make, as a person and as an athlete. The affection the people have shown me is priceless.”

Ernesto Valverde has praised Andres Iniesta following the midfielder’s starring role in the 5-0 thrashing of Sevilla in the Copa del Rey final.

Andres Iniesta pulled the strings on Saturday night as Barcelona tore Sevilla apart, triumphing in the competition for the fourth consecutive season.

The 33-year-old is widely expected to depart Camp Nou at the end of the season, however, with a move to the Chinese Super League being mooted.

Valverde, who has won his first piece of silverware at the helm of the club, admitted that he withdrew Iniesta in the closing moments so as to maximise his moment in the spotlight.

“Let’s see what happens. He has to make the decision. See it, enjoy it,” Valverde is quoted by Mundo as saying.

“I wanted people to give him a tribute for his party. It is marking an era.

“It’s a pleasure to see him play. He does easy things that are so difficult. I would have given an arm when I was a player to do what Andres does.”
