I Was Right To Quit Manchester City For Roma – Eden Dzeko

Featured Image

Edin Dzeko has reiterated that he has no regrets over leaving Manchester City to join Roma.

In 2015, Dzeko ended a successful period with City to link up with Roma but although the Bosnian has been given more first-team action

However, Roma are currently preparing to face Liverpool in the Champions League semi-finals and Dzeko feels that he has improved as a player as he nears the end of his third year at the Stadio Olimpico.

The 32-year-old told UEFA’s official website: “I played there for five years, I scored a lot of goals and won a lot of titles. I played with the best players, against the best players. It’s an experience that helped me a lot but I think that I’m a much better player now than I was at Manchester City.

“In my last season [at City], I didn’t play a lot and I didn’t have the best relationship with [manager Manuel] Pellegrini. I wasn’t happy about that because I knew my qualities and I wanted to play more as those were my best years.

“I made the right move when I came to Roma. The Italian League is very tactical and it took some time for me to get used to that, but I’ve been playing at a very high level for the past two years.”

Arsenal Chiefs’ Divided On Who Should Be Arsene Wenger’s Successor

Featured Image

Ivan Gazidis, along with Head of Football Operations, Raul Sanllehi and head of recruitment Sven Mislintat, will this week begin discussions with potential candidates.

According to Sky Sports, Raul Sanllehi, the former director of football at Barcelona, favours his former colleague Luis Enrique as the man to take the reins over from Wenger.

Arsenal’s third kingmaker, Mislintat – who joined Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund in November, is reportedly keen on Hoffenheim manager Julian Nagelsmann and Schalke’s Domenico Tedesco.

Thomas Tuchel, who last month was the bookies’ favourite to replace Wenger, now looks set to join PSG as Unai Emery’s replacement.

At this early stage, both Brendan Rodgers and Rafa Benitez are not thought to be strong candidates.

Gazidis, meanwhile, was previously reported to have identified former Gunners player Mikel Arteta as a strong candidate to replace Wenger at the end of the season.

I’m Surprised Mohamed Salah Has Been Such A Hit At Liverpool – Francesco Totti

Featured Image

Francesco Totti believes Liverpool are an example to others and he is not surprised that Mohamed Salah is proving such a success at Anfield.

He told liverpoolfc.com: “This season I’ve seen a number of games of Liverpool, especially because Mo Salah is now playing there, I’ve been following it consistently.

“To some extent, it surprises me that [Salah] has been doing so well in his first season at Liverpool.

“But, on the other hand, considering the quality of the squad, the coach they have – Klopp, to me, is one of the best coaches in the world – it didn’t surprise me. They put him in the condition to express himself at his best.”

Totti had nothing but praise for the Reds as a club too, adding: “When I hear the name Liverpool, [I think] respect, a big club, a big team, big fans, and a model to follow.

“Despite the negative result, I have nice memories of that game [at Anfield].

“The atmosphere, the feeling, the passion of the fans – it was very impressive

Mohamed Salah has scored 41 goals since arriving at Anfield and has been voted the PFA Player of the Year.

#BBNaija 2018 Edition May Have Made Over N5.1billion – Aside Adverts, Sponsorships

Featured Image

There are very strong indications that the recently-concluded third season of Nigeria’s biggest reality TV show, Big Brother Naija “Double Wahala”, may have made an estimated N5.1billion from viewers.

On Sunday night, Miracle emerged the winner of the BBNaija 2018 edition, after defeating other finalists – Tobi, Alex, Nina and Cee-c – to win the total prize of N45m and other juicy rewards.

BBNaija N45M Prize: How Voters Aided Miracle’s Victory Over Cee-C, Tobi, Alex, Others

Taking a look at how the BBNaija game works, viewers were asked to cast votes for their favourite housemates to keep them in the house as the housemate with the highest votes would win.

BBNaija Final: Miracle Emerges Winner Of 2018 Edition!

For the finale, the pilot got 38.18 percent of the votes, Cee-C had 28.04, Tobi secured 22.53 while Alex and Nina had 7.07 and 4.18 respectively.

The cost of voting was fixed at N30.

During the closing ceremony last night, the host of the show, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, announced that Big Brother Naija recorded 170 million votes throughout the season, with over 30 million coming in the final week.

Mathematically, it shows that the reality show may have made a total of N5.1billion from viewers votes alone with 17.6 per cent of sum (N900 million) coming in the final week of the show.

This is just as Miracle went home with N45m comprising:

  • N25m in cash
  • A brand new SUV worth N12m
  • An all-expenses paid trip for two to an exotic destination valued at N4.7m
  • A complete home entertainment system and appliances worth N3.3m.

Comparing the gain to what the winner took home, there is no denying that the organisers of the show may have made a huge profit from proceeds of the show.

The N5.1 billion excludes proceeds from adverts and sponsorships from PayPorte, Heritage bank, MiniMee, Pepsi, Dano milk, among others.

The Multichoice Africa, the sponsor of the reality show, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Naspers Media and was founded in 1985. The company has operations in over 50 African countries and the Indian Ocean islands, with over 4 million subscribers.

It owns the DSTV, Govt, M-Net, and Supersport brands.

“I Am Not The King Of The Street, I Am Otunba” – Slimcase

Featured Image

Oshozondi crooner, Slimcase who got a big break in the music industry this year has stated that he is not aware of who the king of street music is but he is certain that he (Slimcase) is the right-hand man to whoever is king.

According to Slimcase;

“Street music didn’t start with me, it started long before me. I only came on the scene to add flavour to it. With street music came shaku shaku dance which started from the streets of Agege and Mushin.

Shaku shaku has been around for a while on the streets, but nobody paid attention to it and no one knew how to tap into a sound for the dance until I dropped the song titled ‘Oshozondi’, and showed them that they can vibe that dance to this song. It created a standard for them which showed that this sound really goes with the dance. It made me popular. I didn’t start the dance, my song created a platform for the dance,” he said

Despite the existence of Olamide, Dammy Krane, Small Doctor who have been in the business of street music before his emergence, Slimcase maintained that his own “lamba” sets him apart from other streets act and that’s exactly why he christened himself “Otunba Lamba”

Meanwhile, the certified street act explained the reason he had proclaim himself as Otumba Lamba, saying he’s not the street king and challenges anyone who is king to declare.

“No one has come out to say he’s the king of the street. I am the one who has come out to say I’m Otunba Lamba and the street accepted it like that because they enjoy my delivery. Street music is about slang (language) and I call my own lamba.”

From The Founder & Editor-In-Chief: Lessons In Business As SCHICK Magazine Turns One

Featured Image

As SCHICK Magazine turns 1, The Founder and Editor-in-Chief Simi Esiri stopped to reflect on her 10 years plus journey to this point and more importantly what she’s learnt in the past year of doing business.

Here are her lessons in the hope that they encourage you to start whatever journey you have in your heart and follow your dreams:

  1. Be intentional: It’s so important to be very aware of yourself and your environment. Be very intentional about your goals and timelines, track yourself. I remember when I wanted to launch SCHICK Magazine, I set a deadline, it wasn’t easy because I had just become a new mum but I held myself accountable by telling the people closest to me and buried my head in planning for a great magazine.

  1. Follow your passion, don’t follow money: When I started SCHICK, I didn’t think about money, of course having a business making money almost immediately is good, but I strongly believe following your passions, will serve you better in the long run. Running a business takes up more than 70% of your life, find something that is worth the time, grit and commitment. Money WILL come. Just remember an “overnight success” story usually has at least 5 years of full commitment, not necessarily chasing money.

  1. Make good connections: It’s not always about networking, sometimes it’s about making good connections with like-minded people at. Don’t limit making conversations with people to only when you’re at a work function, it could be a wedding, the salon, waiting for a doctor’s appointment, in a lift. Don’t be shy to strike up a conversation, walk up to the person of interest and talk! And yes, you may have tried it several times and it didn’t work, try again! The more comfortable you are, the more this will come naturally to you.

  1. Keep asking questions: When I first started SCHICK, I went around and visited as many industry professionals as I could and asked so many questions. I was curious why the publishing industry in Nigeria, wasn’t doing as well as it could, the information I got was priceless! Today those “random” questions helped shape the way we do business and has helped inform our decisions for our target audience at SCHICK. Nigeria has its peculiarities, engage as many people as you can, ask questions to do your bit at cracking it!

  1. Pay close attention to your choice of mentors: I have a ton of mentors! Mentors are not only the people you have access to, it could be someone you admire and watch closely for example, PepsiCo’s CEO, Indra Nooyi is my mentor although, she doesn’t even know who I am, don’t be afraid to pick from such leaders. When I started I had a particular mentor, who told me that we can’t get paid adverts in our first of year business, well we did. At least more than 10 businesses have trusted us to push their campaign messages through our platform. So, it’s very important to pick your mentors wisely and sieve out all information you’re given. Find people who have the life you want in 20 years, study them and implement their strategies in your life.

Finally, Nigerian Govt Abolishes BSc/HND Dichotomy

Featured Image

The Nigerian Government has finally abolished the dichotomy that, until now, existed between university and polytechnic graduates in the civil service.

This disclosure was made by the Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita, in a circular dated March 26, 2018 but made public yesterday.

Daily Sun reports that the circular conveyed the decision of the National Council on Establishment (NCE) to all concerned and solicited their support through its implementation.

The circular indicated that NCE approved entry point of SGL 08 for Higher National Diploma (HND) holders in the civil service. It also encouraged serving HND officers to fulfill all specified conditions as contained in scheme of service and extant rules for career progression beyond SGL 14.

The dichotomy had, hitherto, restricted the polytechnic graduates to a particularly Salary Grade Level (SGL) in the civil service. It took the intervention of the National Council on Establishment (NCE) to resolve the matter in their favour.

Elated by the development, beneficiaries of the recent abolition of the disparity have commended President Muhammadu Buhari, for his support which brought an end to the Bsc/HND dichotomy era.

Speaking with pressmen at a press conference in Abuja, the President of the umbrella body of the beneficiaries, the Nigerian Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE), Ahmad Yabagi, disclosed that the decision has opened a great career door which no adversary can shut.

He said: “We are glad that this monster called dichotomy, which has been a big threat to the development of technology in Nigeria has been defeated. “NATE has, therefore, resolved to support and partner the federal government in its quest to bequeath entrepreneurial skills to Nigerian youths as a means to turn around the economic fortune of Nigeria.”

He, however, appealed to the government to strengthen its monitoring system to ensure the content of the circular by the head of service of the federation is implemented by all government agencies.

Lagos Honours Gani Fawehinmi, Unveils New 44-Feet Statue In Ojota

Featured Image

Press Release: Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Sunday unveiled a new statue of the late legal luminary, Chief Gani Fawehinmi at the ‘Liberty Park’, in Ojota, saying that the 44-feet edifice symbolises the phenomenon that the rights activist represented in his life time.

The unveiling of the statue, in commemoration of the 80th posthumous birthday of the late icon, the Governor said, was an affirmation of his administration’s commitment to celebrate personalities whose action have helped to define the fortune and spirit of Lagos State positively over the years.

Eulogizing the relevance of the personal sacrifices made by Chief Gani Fawehinmi in leading the struggle for attainment of human rights and dignity especially during the military regimes which dehumanized many Nigerians, Governor Ambode said the late human rights activist would continue to remain a hero and role model for many till date.

“We celebrate the invaluable contribution and personal sacrifices of Chief Gani Fawehinmi in the campaign for human rights and dignity, especially in Lagos State where he spent the greater part of his life.

“Chief Gani Fawehinmi loomed large in the minds of the people, especially the underprivileged and vulnerable masses for whom he was ready to lay down his life. In the hallowed corridors of the Law Courts where he fought many battles, he was revered as a titan. Also his acts of philanthropy were borderless. He remains a hero and role model to many till date,” Governor Ambode said.

The Governor, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Oluranti Adebule, also seized the occasion to reiterate the commitment of his administration towards advancing human rights and upholding of social justice at all time, adding that his administration would continue to draw inspiration from Chief Gani Fawehinmi’s struggles and ideals in its quest to make life meaningful for Lagosians.

“Although Chief Gani Fawehinmi is no longer in our midst; like all great men, he lives on in our hearts and memories. We will continue to keep his ideals alive and pass it on to the next generation. He will continue to inspire us as we forge ahead with the missing of building a better society. This monument stands as a testimony of his strength and courage.

Responding on behalf of the family, the son of the late activist, Mohammed Fawehinmi thanked the State Government and Governor Ambode, saying that apart from being a befitting representation to the legacies of their patriarch, the Statue would place their father’s name on the global map.

“I am totally overwhelmed. I want to say a big thank you to Lagos State Government and another very big massive thank you to Governor Ambode. In all honesty, he is the man I least expected this to come from.

“We understood when former Governor Fashola started this with a smaller statue and we were all glad that at least he remembered our mentor, our father, our leader in the human rights struggle and senior advocate of the masses. But now seeing this, I now started to say to myself that Governor Ambode has placed the name Gani Fawehinmi on a global map,” Mohammed said.

While describing Governor Ambode as a very reputable accountant and one of the most outstanding Governors in Nigeria, Mohammed said the Governor was the first in the history of Nigeria to do something such gigantic, saying that the statue would enter the Guinness Book of Records.

Mohammed, who alluded to the massive infrastructural renewal and efforts to make Lagos rank among top global cities, also announced the decision of the Fawehinmi family to endorse Governor Ambode for a second term in office to continue the good works across the State.

“We hereby endorse Governor Ambode for second term in office to continue the good works in the State,” Mohammed said.

In his goodwill message, rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana described the statue as one of the best in the country, and thanked the State Government for honouring Fawehinmi with such imposing edifice.

“The monument we are unveiling today is one of the best in the country and it has to be so. We want to thank the Lagos State Government for the investment in this edifice. We can assure you that many Nigerians or anybody who enters Lagos through this road will want to find out who is here and every day we are going to teach lessons about Gani Fawehinmi.

“We thank the Lagos State Government for rebuilding this statue. We were wondering when the former one was collapsing but we are sure this one can never collapse. It is very solid and very strong,” Falana said.

On his part, National Secretary of National Conscience Party (NCP), Comrade Ayodele Akele, said the edifice was a wonderful 80th posthumous birthday gift to the family and associates of the late activist.

Akele, who spoke on behalf of the NCP, a party founded by late Fawehinmi, specially thanked the State Government and Governor Ambode, saying that the government deserved to be commended.

“I am totally flabbergasted by this wonderful edifice in honour of my icon, in honour of my mentor, late Chief Gani Fawehinmi. For me, this is a wonderful memory of late Chief Fawehinmi.

“This would be auspicious gift to the posthumous 80th birthday of our mentor and this is wonderful. For doing this to the memory of Chief Gani Fawehinmi, my humble self, National Conscience Party (NCP) and all its associates across the world say a big thank you to the Lagos State Government and particularly Governor Ambode,” Akele said.

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) represented by the Deputy National President, Comrade Issa Aremu also appreciated the State Government for the statue, saying it was well deserved.

“We appreciate the Lagos State Government ably led by Governor Ambode for the honour done to our mentor, our leader, late Chief Gani Fawehinmi. For us to identify with this occasion is a total commitment because when the late chief was alive, he was with us totally. He was there on the streets joining our protests and several times when we were being harassed with black market injunctions, Chief Fawehinmi was always there to defend us,” Aremu said.

On her part, rights activist and President of Women Arise, Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin commended the State Government, saying that the legacies of the late Fawehinmi would continue to be remembered.

“We are gathered here today at the statue of a great life wire of the human rights and pro-democracy movement. I want to specially thank the Lagos State Government. I know that Gani Fawehinmi continue to live in the unconsciousness of the people,” she said.

The event was well attended by members of the human rights movement and Fawehinmi’s family including his widow, Alhaja Ganiyat Fawehinmi; Chief Femi Okurounmu, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, Jiti Ogunye, Debo Adeniran, Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi, Declan Ihekaire, Nelson Ekujumi, Dr Yunusa Tanko, among others.

INEC Clarifies On Alleged Plan To Create 30,000 New Polling Units

Featured Image

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday admitted that there were plans to create 30,000 new polling units but denied that it was with the intention of compromising the integrity of the electoral process.

This is coming after the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, had on Friday, in statement, alleged that INEC was planning to create 30,000 illegal polling units in some remote areas of the country.

Vanguard quoted INEC as saying that the creation of the new units was based on requests from the states.

More than two-thirds of the proposed 30,000 new units are allocated to the North and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, a development that has stirred concern of plots to favour a part of the country.

However, in a statement, yesterday, in Abuja, INEC described as “false, misleading and unfounded,” the report of a plot to use the new units to rig the forthcoming election.

He said: “The fact of the matter is that in response to 3,789 requests so far received nationwide for the creation of new polling units, the commission directed its Resident Electoral Commissioners, RECs, to thoroughly assess and provide it with information on:

“New settlements that are not served or inadequately served by existing polling units; areas with natural barriers that hinder access to existing polling units; areas that are distant from existing polling units; and areas affected by communal and other conflicts that make voting in existing polling units unsafe for voters.

“These reports are still being awaited from the states. It is these reports and the information they contain that will be collated and carefully examined by the commission in order to determine what changes may be necessary in the current polling units profile of the country.

“Therefore, the insinuation that the commission intends to create 30,000 new polling units to compromise the 2019 general elections is false, misleading, unfounded and should be disregarded.

Governor Okorocha Moves To Declare “No PVC, No Salary” In Imo

Featured Image

Governor Rochas Okorocha has declared that henceforth, tendering of Permanent Voter Card (PVC) will be a prerequisite for taking part in various activities in Imo State, including receipt of salaries by civil servants.

The governor, who made the declaration while speaking with the press in Owerri on Saturday, April 21, said the extreme measure is to curb the ‘I-don’t-care-attitude’ of people of the state towards the collection of their PVCs.

Okorocha Orders Adults In Imo To Pay ₦3,000 Each As “Autonomous Community Adult Development Levy”

He made it clear that without presentation of their PVCs, residents of the state will not be able to participate in socio-economic activities such as payment of salaries and getting admission into schools.

Okorocha lamented that many people in the state are not concerned about getting the PVC, which will make them eligible for enjoying many benefits in the state.

According to him, “The government is going to initiate the policy of ‘operation-show-your-PVC’ before you can enter the market to buy or sell and before you can do business or get anything from the government, and before your child can be admitted into schools.

“Even before workers receive their salaries from the government, they must show their PVC. We cannot allow the I-don’t-care-attitude of our people towards the exercise to continue unchecked.”

Stolen Mace, Shaky Democracy And Bruised Mandate By Martins Oloja

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

While the orators and philosopher-kings have been consulting over the mystery surrounding the stolen Mace from the hallowed chambers of the Senate, we the oracles who can discern the deeds of principalities and powers over this country’s wobbly democracy should begin to speak up.

This piece was written by Martins Oloja. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

The other day, I was saying here that the trouble with us in this country is that we have had too many orators and too few oracles. Orators are those who talk so eloquently and grandiloquently sometimes like weaverbirds.

They most times speak the minds of men who are not usually spot-on. But the oracles most times speak the minds of the gods who are always on point. The oracles have spoken again very clearly.

The executive summary of what the oracles have seen from the seed of time is that the stolen Mace, the sceptre of authority of the legislature, former weapon of war, represents some warning signals to those in authorities in Abuja.

Confusion As Thugs Disrupt Senate Plenary, Take Mace Away | Lawmakers React

The conclusion of the whole matter is that the stolen Mace signifies that democracy has become an emblem of suffering and shame in the country and the mandates given to the representatives as symbol of democracy have been bruised because the oaths of office they all swore to, have been serially violated. And that Black Wednesday last week was a warning signal!

The Channels Television tagged the Gestapo style of the daylight robbers of the Mace “a mystery”. It is still a mystery indeed. An ancient oracle, Charles Dickens, would have described the mace robbers as “artful dodgers”.

But our own oracle, Fela Anukulapo Kuti would have come up with another hit, “Authority Stealing” because they indeed stole the country’s Senate Authority” so seamlessly.

Another big oracle, Chinua Achebe, would have reported that the “Mace thieves” were very clever. They came quietly and peaceably with their religion, to disrupt the sequence of next election’s due order.

But the orators in the Red Chamber includingthe ‘commonsense exponent’ could not find the art to detect the construction of the minds of the strange execu-thieves who the oracles revealed came from a place called Agege. They allowed them to come in and head straight for the seat of power in the Red Chamber. They took the sceptre of authority in front of the President.

Every member froze and looked askance and the ‘authority thieves” left the chambers of 109 Senators without a challenge during a plenary session. And the authority of Nigeria’s Senate vanished through the many gates of the National Assembly…and so things fell part and mere anarchy was loosed upon the Three-Arms Zone in Abuja.

A livesocial mediavideo carried by the Senate showed that proceedings for the day were well underway when confusion was registered at the entrance of the building.

It is still a mystery how a group of men fought off security and chased off parliamentary staff at the National Assembly premises in Abuja before making away with the Mace. Reports said about ten men involved in the operation sped off in a black SUV after stealing the Mace.

Later that day the Senate’s presiding officer, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, issued a powerless statement: “The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has just been invaded and we are not going to take it kindly.

This is an institutional invasion. So I want everybody to settle down”.The following day the police, which has a divisional police office in the National Assembly complex claimed the stolen Mace wasrecovered under a bridge near the City Gate of the nation’s capital.

Meanwhile, the oracles have been comparing revelations and one of them hinted at the iconic Hubert Ogunde’s lines to his people in those days when the Yoruba nation too was embroiled in a crisis that led to the stealing of the authority called the Mace in the Western House of Assembly.

In his (Ogunde’s) classic, Yoruba R’onu,(Yoruba, Think), aclincher in the poem points a finger at some character traits insome Yoruba then who were good at ambidextrous manipulation: that they could call thieves to raid a farm and at the same time alert the farm owners to catch the thieves.

So, the oracles are warning that the consequences of the authority stealing then in the Western House of Assembly led not only to the eclipse of democracy, it also resulted in collapse of federalism in 1966. We are now asking the gods for a restoration of the best of our democratic times 52 years after.

This is where both the orators and the oracles have had some consensus: that the people of this country have lost faith in their own National Assembly.

They are saying not many people would like to sympathise with members who looked helpless when some demons invaded the hallowed chamber and stole the authority that gave them powers to make laws and represent the people.

The oracles would like tell them in concrete terms that they have failed again to learn from the lessons of history, especially from the First Republic, when democracy was gored.

A peep into how democracy was once lost: stealing of authority, the Mace, the symbol of authority in the Nigerian lawmaking institutions as witnessed last Wednesday at the National Assembly had its roots in the First Republic’s Western Region(1965) following the crisis that ensued between the leadership of the defunct Action Group (AG) and the Premier of the Region then.

Following the crisis, the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo led some members of the Western Assembly to remove the premier, Chief Samuel Akintola and the Governor of the Region.

Consequently, the development split the lawmakers into two factions thereby leading to a mild drama on the floor of the House. And in the process, a member representing Badagry East, Mr. Ebubedike snatched the Mace and ran away with it.

A year after, democracy fell to the plots of some false prophets we have since been following in the Federal Republic of the Nigerian Army.

You will recall too that in a similar development, a year after the return of democracy from decades of military dictatorship in 1999, Nigeria witnessed a second incident of mace snatching at the National Assembly in Abuja.

Just like the case in the Western Region, that resulted from a clash of interest between the president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and the President of the Senate, then, Senator Chuba Okadigbo.

As a result of the crisis between the two leaders, some senators loyal to the President, Obasanjo moved for the impeachment of the President of the Senate, Okadigbo. But because Okadigbo, a philosopher-king, knew the significance of the Mace in legislative proceedings, the Senate President sneaked away from the National Assembly with the Mace to his house in Abuja.

Incredibly, the SenatePresident then boasted that he eventually took the Senate’s mace to his village, Ogbunike, where he claimed that a seven-foot python was protecting it from his disgruntled colleagues who wanted to remove him.

Since that time, the National Assembly has not been the same in terms of perception of the body as a failure. The exponent of that political sagacity and stealing of Mace democratic arithmetic has since joined his ancestors…Some prophets said the orator from Ogbunike went to the grave with the authority andmajesty of the federal legislature that has been struggling since 2000.

Then in 2013, the apparition of “authority thieves” emerged in Port Harcourt, capital of Rivers state when Mr. Rotimi Amaechi was the State Governor.

The trigger was also a tussle between two political blocs in the state that had divided the State House of Assembly: one loyal to Amaechi and the other to the then Minister of State for Education and the current governor Nyesom Wike.

27 members were loyal to the governor while five members pledged loyalty to Wike as reported then.

The crisis started in the chamberwhen the five members on Wike’s side announced their move to impeach the Speaker of the House Mr. Otelemabama Amachree.

And so 27 other members loyal to Amaechi decided to steal the Mace and the battle ensued until three of the five members were markedly injured. Since that time, there has been no love lost between the two brothers from the Garden City, Amaechi and Wike.

In the same year specifically on September 24, 2013, a Mace also developed wings from the Kaduna State House of Assembly in the heat of the political struggle in the house to impeach its Speaker then, Alhaji Usman Gangara, and other leaders of the state legislature.

A Committee was set up to investigate the whereabouts of the Mace. The speaker was found guilty of stealing his own authority, the Mace and he was suspended for three months.

Police Recovers Senate’s Stolen Mace Under Abuja Flyover

What the Abuja legislators who were apparently dazed and passive as their authority was being stolen while democracy was in action last Wednesday, should note is that the daylight robbery was a spiritual exercise they should note very seriously.

The oracles are saying that they should remember the event of 1965 in Ibadan and learn to be sober from this week.

The conclusion is that democracy says she is no longer safe in Nigeria and may escape to Greece very soon. What this means is that this week, Nigeria’s federal legislators should meet secretly but seriously to reflect on what they have done with democracy without development in Nigeria.

Besides, they should reflect very sincerely on how the bureaucracy of the National Assembly headed by the Clerk National Assembly, (CAN), the Head of (Legislative) Service regulated by the National Assembly Service Commission went to sleep last Wednesday.

They need to ask questions too on the dereliction of responsibility of the Directorate of State Security (DSS) and Divisional Police Office (DPO) in the National Assembly Complex and why they failed democracy last Wednesday.

The presiding officers need to ask where the rains began to beat themtoo from the way they have arrogated to themselves the power to suspend their colleagues for 90 legislative days.

They need to ask themselves questions about the extent all of them have gone in destroying political party system in Nigeria.

They need to reflect on the reasons they have been keeping their personal emoluments secret since 1999 until one of them committed class suicide recently by disclosing just a part.

The oracles are warning very loudly that last Wednesday’s stolen Mace signifies a wounded democracy. They are saying there is still some architecture in the rubble of the broken seats and chairs in the Red Chamber that Black Wednesday.

They should change their ways, honour their oath of allegiance to the nation. The constitution makes the Legislature the Guardian Angel of the National Treasury. But they are now called legislooters. That is not nice.

It is a disservice to the nation to spend N200 billion on them and still nothing monumental to show their constituents.

In any legislative responsibility, yes, law making is more prominent, but representation is the more significant.

Don’t treat the authority thieves last Wednesday as just as ‘treasonable felons’. They only showed you that authority could only flow from responsibility that you have longed shirked.

The Mace robbers only choreographed how authority and even democracy could be stolen too when its guardian angels sleep on duty.

That Wednesday should therefore be seen as a warning signal to the Abuja powerful men that power is transient and authority to exercise it can be stolen too by some more artful principalities and powers outside the seat of power! Solution: serve only public interest!

Mohamed Salah was rewarded for a stunning first year at Anfield, which has so far yielded 41 goals in all competitions, by being crowned PFA Player of the Year on Sunday night.

Henderson said: “He came in during the summer, settled in really well during pre-season and straight away we knew we had a top player.

“He was amazing in training and during the pre-season games and has continued that form throughout the season.

“He’s been fantastic on and off the field.

“When he joined from Roma, we expected him to be good but he’s gone above and beyond that.”

Henderson added: “He keeps improving and getting better and better with every game. He’s more confident of course.

“The manager has helped him loads and the lads have helped him develop as well, but all the hard work is down to him.

“He’s in the gym all the time, improving his strength and works hard for the team. He’s getting his just rewards now.

“His goal tally speaks for itself. There are so many good players in the Premier League, it’s hard enough to get in the team of the year never mind win it.”

The England international insisted the standard of Salah’s performances this season deserved comparison with those of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and backed his team-mate to improve yet further.

“He’s certainly up at that level this season,” Henderson said. “Messi and Ronaldo have done it at that level for 10 years plus, but Mo is good enough to stay at this level and keep improving.

“Definitely this season in terms of the way he’s played, the goals he’s scored and the impact he’s had on games, means he’s up there with the best.”

Paul Pogba Speaks Out Over His Relationship With Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has dismissed suggestions he has fallen out with Jose Mourinho – and insists he is happy at the club.

Paul Pogba reportedly has a strained relationship with Mourinho, leading to suggestions that he is angling for a summer exit.

Pogba, who has been subbed or left out of the starting lineup in nine of the Red Devils’ last 15 matches, is rumoured to be on the radar of big-spending Paris Saint-Germain.

“I have no problem with him, and I don’t think he has a problem,” Pogba said in an interview on French TV’s Canal Football Club on Sunday evening.

“He put me in as captain and he has given me responsibilities in a great club like United.

“I am a player, and I like to give the best of myself.

He is the coach, he has to make decisions and I am a player, I accept them, I have to answer on the pitch.

“A coach makes his choices for the team, not for one player, he takes me out and puts someone else in.

“It is only because he is looking for something else, and the players must accept that.”

Chelsea Star Fran Kirby Named PFA Women’s Player Of The Year

Chelsea Ladies forward Fran Kirby has won the women’s Player of the Year award.

Fran Kirby, who played in Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat in the first leg of the Women’s Champions League semi-final on Sunday, won the women’s player of the year award, while Bristol City’s Lauren Hemp was named young player of the year

Kirby,24, has been an inspiration for the swashbuckling Blues this year, and has netted 22 goals in all competitions so far this term to help the west Londoners run amok.

Kirby was one of five players from unbeaten Women’s Super League leaders Chelsea to be shortlisted for the award, with Millie Bright, Ji So-yun, Maren Mjelde and Ramona Bachmann joining her and Manchester City’s Jill Scott.

“It’s pretty special for me,” the former Reading striker said at Sunday night’s ceremony at the Grosvenor House in central London.

“It’s very humbling because it’s voted for by the people I play against week in, week out, so I’m absolutely delighted to win.

“A massive thank you to everyone who has voted for me and to my team-mates who helped me get here.”

She continued: “In every game that I play in, I try to do something that I’ll remember after the game.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah Wins PFA Player Of The Year award

Featured Image

Mohamed Salah has been named as the Professional Footballers’ Association player of the year for the 2017-18 season.

Mohamed Salah saw off competition from Manchester City trio Kevin De Bruyne, Leroy Sané and David Silva to become the second African player to win the award after Riyad Mahrez of Leicester in 2016. Tottenham’s Harry Kane came third, with De Bruyne second. Salah, who moved to Anfield from Roma last June for a club record fee of £36.9m, has scored 40 goals in his debut season as Jürgen Klopp’s side have reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Salah was presented with the award at the Grosvenor Hotel in London on Sunday evening, with City winger Sané voted as young player of the year.

“It’s an honour to win this award especially because it was voted for by the other players,” said Salah. “I would like to thank my team-mates and everyone at the club for helping me to make this happen.”

Asked what it meant to become the first Egyptian to win the award, he said: “Hopefully I’m not the last one! I’m very proud to win and I’ve worked very hard.”

Salah, who follows Luis Suarez, in 2014, as the last Liverpool player to earn the accolade, is a pivotal reason behind the club’s run to the Champions League semi-finals and helping Jurgen Klopp’s side all but secure a top-four spot in the league.

Salah scored his 31st league goal in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, equalling Luis Suarez, Cristiano Ronaldo and Alan Shearer for the most Premier League goals scored in a 38-game season.

The forward has three Premier League games remaining and could match Andy Cole’s record of 34 goals in a 42-game season set in 1993-94.

“You’re comparing your name with some great names,” he said, on the prospect of breaking the record. “To break the Premier League record is something huge in England and all over in the world.

“There are still three games to go. I want to break this record and also break the one for [42-game season]. Let’s see what will happen.”
