Senate Rejects Buhari’s CBN Nominee, Confirms 4 Others

The Senate on Thursday, May 31, confirmed four non-executive directors for the board of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), rejecting one.

The confirmed nominees are Ummu Jalingo, Justitia Odinakachukwu, Mike Obadan and Adeola Adetunji.

The lawmakers at the upper chamber of the National Assembly, however, rejected Abdu Abubakar, as senators who screened him said they were dissatisfied with his responses to their questions.

The nominees were confirmed after Rafiu Ibrahim, chairman of the senate committee on banking, presented a report.

According to Ibrahim, Abdu Abubakar, the unconfirmed nominee, failed the committee’s integrity test.

“That four out of the five nominees, professor Ummu Jalingo, Justitia Odinakachukwu Nnabuko, Mike Obadan and Adeola Adetunji are very resourceful, diligent, articulate, competent and have the needed value for the central bank and they answered questions satisfactorily,” he said.

“The nominees have vast knowledge of the CBN act. They have been cleared by CCB and relevant security agency.

“One of the nominees, Dr Abdu Abubakar, failed the integrity test designed by the committee to assess, his response to questions lacked transparency and not worthy to appointed into a regulatory agency by the CBN.”

After the presentation of the report by Mr Ibrahim, the deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu said the issues surrounding the non-confirmation of Mr Abubakar should be revisited by the committee.

Thereafter, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, directed the committee to “look into Mr Abubakar’s record, do more legislative work and report back.”

It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had sent five names to the senate in April 2017.

Fresh Crisis Looms In Health Sector As Nigerian Doctors Threaten Strike

The Nigeria Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) says it cannot guarantee industrial harmony after a scheduled meeting on June 2.

JOHESU Agrees To Suspend 44-Day Old Strike On June 1

Ugochukwu Eze, the NARD Publicity and Social Secretary, Kaduna State branch, made this known at a news conference, on Thursday in Kaduna.

“As the 21 days grace handed over to the federal government to resolve all lingering issues as well as the recalling of its members sacked by the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) elapsed on Thursday May 31,
“we scheduled a meeting for June 2, while warning that we cannot guarantee industrial harmony.

“It may also interest you all that an extraordinary National Executive Council meeting of NARD is scheduled to hold on the 2nd of June, 2018.

“NARD leadership may not be able to guarantee continuous industrial harmony should our legitimate agitations be ignored by government,” the spokesman said.

Mr Eze recalled that NARD had on March 27 held an extraordinary National Executive Council meeting where issues pertaining to the unjust sack of its members in JUTH were extensively discussed.

“At the end of the meeting, a 30 days ultimatum was issued starting from the 2nd of April, 2018, which elapsed on the 2nd of May, 2018.

“Twelve days after the expiration of the ultimatum, at the Ordinary General Meeting held in ABUTH Zaria from 5th-11th May, 2018, the ultimatum was extended by 21 days to allow government to effect recall of all sacked resident doctors in JUTH.

“Also to meet up with all outstanding agreement contained in our 6th September, 2017, Memorandum of Terms of Settlement. This ultimatum ends tomorrow, 31st May, 2018,’’ he said.

Mr Eze explained that the association had exhausted all labour engagement requirements to help solve the problem in JUTH through extensive advocacy channels.

“The September 2017 strike was suspended to allow government complete implementation of the terms of settlement but there are still unmet agreements by the government.

“It may also interest the general public to know that the members of Joint Health Sector Workers Union (JOHESU) have been on strike for the past 44 days.

“Healthcare in the country has been anchored upon the shoulders of resident doctors, mainly (NARD), being the largest single body of doctors in Nigeria,” he said.

Mr Eze appealed to government and the public to impress on government to reciprocate their good will and solve their problem.

The residency training programme is a programme where Specialist Doctors are trained to guarantee availability of Specialist Health Services in the country and minimize brain drain.

Finally, Buhari Assents “Not Too Young To Run” Bill Into Law

Featured Image

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, May 31, signed the “Not Too Young To Run” bill into law.

The president signed the bill some moments ago inside the Council Chamber of State House Presidential Villa, in the presence of selected invited youth from across the county.

Bear in mind that on Tuesday, during his Democracy Day’s speech, Mr Buhari had assured Nigerians that the ‘Not too Young to Run Bill’ will be signed into law in a few days’ time.

“In (a) few days to come, I will be joined by many promising young Nigerians to sign into law the ‘Not Too Young To Run’ bill,” he had said.

However, in a brief remark after he signed the bill, Mr Buhari told his audience comprising representatives of young persons from the 36 states and Abuja that “You can aspire for President but Please postpone your campaign till after 2019 election.”

He added: “Your focus and contributions have now successfully increased the quality and maturity of Nigerian democracy and expanded the playing field for youth participation in politics.

“You, the young people of Nigeria, are now set to leave your mark on the political space, just as you have done over the decades in entrepreneurship, sports, art, media entertainment, technology, and several other fields.”

Both Senate and the House of Representatives had passed the bill in 2017.

It later received the constitutionally required approval of two-thirds of National Assembly, leaving the final step of presidential assent.

‘Not Too Young To Run’ bill seeks a reduction in the age limit for presidential candidates from 40 to 35, as well as state governors and senators from 35 to 30.

Following the President’s approval, the minimum age for national and state assembly members will now be 25.

The primary aim of the bill is to increase the participation of young people in politics, as more than half of the nation’s population is below age 30.

This Tiwa Savage Sef; The Hypocrisy Of It All! By Noble Igwe

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

It feels different picking up my laptop to write because its something I have not done in a while, regardless, it’s something I love doing. Perhaps I need to write more often as I have slowly begun loosing interest in tweeting and the other forms of social media. And do you blame me?

This piece was written by Noble Igwe. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

Today, everything written in truth is considered ‘a shade’, a hate comment or the trendiest one ‘table shaking’. Bloggers are no longer interested in writing stories or articles, they camp on social media waiting for comments that will drive traffic to their pages and some are so uncreative that they post pictures while ridiculously asking followers/readers to “caption this, the best caption get a certain amount of money” but this is not the purpose of this article, we’d get there sometime during the week.

Social media is a blessing and a curse, we have created a monster that let’s people throw insults from the comfort of their beds or the beds of the people letting them squat. We have people who claim to support Nigerians but jump at the slightest opportunity to drag them down. These keyboard courageous fiends open multiple accounts for the sole purpose of insulting people, but are also quick to ask for selfies when they run into these exact set of people in public.

I’m not saying that we must hold people so high that we cannot reprimand when they are wrong, but we have developed such a negative culture that more often than not it feels like we are in a wild contest for the most hilarious insult, oh how savage haha!

This Tiwa Savage Sef; The Hypocrisy Of It All! By Noble IgweI have always said that we idolize foreign so much that it shows in everything we do or support. Falz put out a very good video, most of us pretended not to have seen it but once Diddy posted it, we were all up in his comment section waving the Nigerian flag while singing the National anthem just because it was Diddy, a whole Diddy.

I have always been an advocate for stage craft, I have always suggested that artists have outfits and a special recording of their songs for stage performances to give the consumers/fans a different vibe in relation to when we walk into them at the mall or Mr. Biggs.

There are so many of us outchea who want to see our beloved Nigerian acts compete with their pairs internationally, but we also want to dictate how they should do it and then react when it does not fit into our own personal idea of the best possible methods. We want to see our artistes kill it on the world stages, but we don’t really want them to do it while being themselves and in the ways, they have chosen to dress themselves.

Look around you, how many of our female acts are pushing the envelope? How many of our Nigerian female acts are getting the required support they need from us to get to the next level?

Last Weekend, Tiwa Savage performed at Wizkid’s Sold out Afro Republik at the O2, London. One of most attended shows by a Nigerian artist in recent times but most people are not talking about her performance, how great or sub par it was, they are talking about her outfit, a denim short.

Most people are not sending the required accolade as the only female artist on the show, but we are busy trying to understand why ‘a mother’ should wear ripped shorts for her performance on stage.

At the risk of sounding like something you’d read on the twitter, I’ll still say that  I know if either Rihanna or Beyoncé had worn those shorts most of us would have sung their praises and at this very moment we would have seen different versions of it in the club, just like that time people started buttoning their shirts at the back even though it made them very uncomfortable but because it’s our very own Tiwa, we had to ask if she does not have shame wearing those shorts on stage.

I know some of you may be wondering if I’m really comparing Tiwa Savage to Rihanna and Beyoncé, but the truth is, who is the other Nigerian female Artist on Tiwa’s level at this time?

Music is an art and we must let artist perform their music in the best ways they feel comfortable.

Let’s take a moment to appreciate her craft, applaud her for staying strong in a male dominated music industry and for letting us know she can do it in Iro & Buba, shorts or bare feet.

Arsene Wenger ‘Favourite To Replace Zidane As Real Madrid Manager’

Featured Image

Following the news that Zinedine Zidane has stepped down as Real Madrid manager, there are strong rumours in Spain that former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is the favourite to become the new Bernabeu coach.

Following Zidane’s departure, bookmakers believe it is Wenger who is most likely to take over from his countryman after that wildly successful two-and-a-half years in charge, Metro UK reports.

Frank Lampard Appointed New Manager Of Derby County

Bear in mind that earlier this month, Wenger had revealed that he turned down the advances of Real Madrid “two or three times” during his tenure at Arsenal.

The former Arsenal gaffer, who has close ties with Real Madrid President Florentino Perez had told beIN sports that “Real Madrid, I think I turned them down two or three times. They are one of the teams I loved as a kid but I felt it was a very sensitive period for Arsenal.”

“When we built the (Emirates) stadium, the banks asked me to commit for five years. The first time, it was inside the five years and I thought ‘I cannot do that’, it would be betraying my club.”

“You are always tempted to go to Real Madrid because they offered me the chance to take control of the whole club.”

“At the end of the day, I said no once, twice. I turned so many clubs down you could believe it. At the end of the day, I was happy where I was as well.”

With Wenger now available and suggesting he wants to continue working in the game at the age of 68, his appointment may be viewed by Perez as the perfect stop gap with some of the likely contenders for the job seemingly unavailable.

Wenger is just 5/2 to be the next Real Madrid manager while Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is also thought to be in the frame (3/1) despite having signed a new five-year contract with Spurs last week.

Real Madrid youth team coach Guti (11/2), Chelsea boss Antonio Conte (7/1) and Germany manager Joachim Loew (7/1) are also in the running.

The bookies are also not ruling out the likes of Max Allegri (16/1), Diego Simeone (22/1) and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp (22/1).

Frank Lampard Appointed New Manager Of Derby County

Featured Image

Former England and Chelsea FC midfielder Frank Lampard has taken his first step into management by taking the reins at Derby County, the Championship club announced on Thursday, May 31, 2018.

The 39-year-old, who won three Premier League titles with Chelsea, has signed a three-year contract at the second-tier English outfit two years after retiring in 2016.

It’s Official! Zidane Resigns As Real Madrid Coach After Winning 3 #UCL Trophies

Derby have been looking for a new manager since Gary Rowett was lured away by recently-relegated Stoke.

Lampard told Derby’s official website: “This is my first job as a manager, but I’ve worked closely with some of the best coaches in the game and I’m confident in my own abilities and those of the team around me, including the board.

“I know it won’t be easy — managing a football team never is — but I’m really looking forward to the challenge ahead.

“I’ve always wanted to manage a club with a big tradition and history like Derby County, so this is a huge opportunity.”

Rowett led Derby into the play-offs at the end of last season only for Fulham to overturn a first leg deficit in their semi-final clash before going on to beat Aston Villa at Wembley.

Lampard said his aim was to take Derby back to the Premier League for the first time since 2008, when the club finished rock bottom.

“We want to build on the club’s top six finish in the Championship last season, while at the same time bringing through some of the excellent youth and academy talent we have at Pride Park,” added Lampard.

After starting his career at West Ham, Lampard joined Chelsea and had 13 successful years at Stamford Bridge.

He remains the club’s leading goalscorer with 211 goals and, as well as his hat-trick of Premier League medals, also lifted four FA Cups, the Champions League and the Europa League during a trophy-laden stay.

“We Didn’t Censor Falz’s ‘This Is Nigeria’ Prior To Release” – Nigerian Film Censors Board

Featured Image

The National Film And Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has reacted to Falz The Bahd Guy’s latest music video “This Is Nigeria”.

The video which met with many spontaenous reactions from Nigerians featured a group of female choreographers dressed in hijab and doing shaku-shaku dance among other scenes.
In reaction to the music video, veteran entertainment journalist Rasheed Abubakar, the Director, Licensing Department of the NFVCB, Cornell Agim said the rapper, Falz didn’t bring his music video for licensing and rating before he released it to the public and unfortunately, the agency’s monitoring team hasn’t reported the video to the directorate.

He added that it is the board’s job to censor and rate videos before they get to the public. But in a situation where a video goes viral, journalists and members of the public affected by the visuals are expected to notify them for investigation.

In his words;

‘the agency do censorship and rating of the music video before it gets to the general public. We ensure we do an analysis of those videos. We also try as much as possible not to tamper with the creative intention of any artiste except they come with some obscenity, which we most time kick against. BUT Falz didn’t bring his music video for licensing before it gets to the public. As the Director of Licensing, I haven’t seen the video. Same as the agency. None of our monitoring team has brought it to my notice. Hence, we didn’t censor it before it gets to the public.

He added that,

‘The truth is, most time we can’t reach out. We are the handicap because we are not everywhere and we can’t be everywhere. That’s why people like you (journalists) should notify us once you see things like that. Bring them to our notice and we’ll investigate it and bring the perpetrators to book. Often time, we get complaints from Nigerians, saying what’s the agency doing? We are trying our best through our best might not be good enough. That’s why we need people like you to supply us with information about the affected song.

The agency does organise sensational programmes for filmmakers and music video doctors. We held one recently in Bauchi, we called it consultative forum but many of them didn’t come. You invite them, they won’t come. Some of them will even ask you for transportation fee. We also print out handouts containing guidelines. If you visit our website, there are relevant materials on licensing and rating. But are they visiting the site? Are they reading the uploaded materials? Despite our efforts in sanitizing the industry, some of them would prefer to break the rules’.

It’s Official! Zidane Resigns As Real Madrid Coach After Winning 3 #UCL Trophies

Featured Image

Zinedine Zidane has stepped down as Real Madrid head coach citing the need for ‘change’ at the club to continue their success.

The Frenchman, who won the Uefa Champions League three times consecutively with the Spanish team, made the announcement barely five days after celebrating his last Champions League triumph against Liverpool in Kiev.

The 45-year-old former star player on the French national team, announced his decision in a press conference on Thursday and called it “a strange but a very important moment,” according to a translation of his remarks by ESPN.

“I had to do this for everyone. This team must continue winning and it needs a change that will be good for everyone,” said Zidane, who conducted the press conference in Spanish.

“This is a demanding club, not easy for them, with this great history. We always want more from the players, and a moment comes when I cannot ask them for more. They need another voice, to return to winning again.”

Real Madrid, one of the most prestigious clubs in Europe, beat Liverpool, 3-1, on Saturday to win its third Champions League title in three years under Zidane. The club also won La Liga, the top professional football league in Spain, in 2016-17.

Zidane, who leaves Real Madrid with 104 wins, 16 losses and 29 draws, said at the news conference that he does not plan to pursue another job in the short term.

“I am not tired of coaching, after three years,” he said, according to ESPN’s translation. “But it is the moment to (leave) here.”

Ex-Kaduna Governor, Minister And Others Remanded In Prison

Featured Image

A Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna has remanded a former governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, and three others in prison.

Others charged alongside the former governor are a former Minister of State for Power, Nuhu Wya; a former Secretary to Kaduna State government, Hamza Ishaq; and a former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna, Haruna Gaya.

Justice Mohammed Shuaibu gave the remand order on Thursday, after they were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on same day.

Mr Yero and the other defendants were charged with four counts bordering on money laundering, criminal conspiracy, misappropriation of public fund, and breach of trust.

They were arraigned over their roles in the disbursement of N750 million campaign fund for the PDP during the 2015 general election.

They had been reporting to the Kaduna zonal office of the EFCC for the past two months in line with the procedure for investigations.

On Wednesday, the commission detained them ahead of the arraignment.

“The case is coming up tomorrow; so I can confirm to you that the former governor is here with us and he will be arraigned at the courts with the three others,” an EFCC source had said.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to them on Thursday.

Counsel to Mr Yero, Yunus Ustaz, subsequently made an oral application for the bail of his client or worse still be remanded in EFCC custody.

His oral application was, however, opposed by the EFCC counsel Joshua Saidi who insisted that the four accused persons be taken to prison, as the Commission does not have enough detention facility to accommodate them.

Giving in his ruling after listening to both arguments, Justice Shuaibu agreed with the submission of the prosecuting counsel and, therefore, asked the defence counsel to file a written application for bail.

He also ordered that the four accused persons be remanded in prison custody till the next sitting.

The judge then adjourned the case till June 6, for ruling on the bail application.

JOHESU Agrees To Suspend 44-Day Old Strike On June 1

Featured Image

Conscious of the plight of health-seeking public and also in an attempt to give room for an amicable resolution of its dispute with the Federal Government, the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) on Wednesday agreed to suspend its 44 days old strike on Friday June 1, 2018.

The decision was reached after the intervention of the National Industrial Court, NIC, which offered to take over the mediation process between the striking health workers and the government.

Before now, an NGO, the Incorporated Trustees of the Kingdom Human Rights Foundation, KHRFI, had obtained a court order against JOHESU; mandating the health workers to suspend their industrial action on the 21st of May, 2018.

But, in pursuit of its constitutional rights to either comply or challenge the Court order, JOHESU filed an appeal at the Appellate Court.

Meanwhile, the leadership of JOHESU said it has decided to sheath its sword and direct the members of the union to resume duties since the NIC, as a neutral and impartial organ of the Judiciary, has mandated its mediation centre to take over the negotiation and reconciliation processes within the next 24 hrs in the interest of the public.

Speaking with newsmen, JOHESU Vice-President, Dr. Chimele Ogbonna, said:

“As responsible citizens of Nigeria, we have decided to honour the National Industrial Court, NIC, by submitting ourselves to its mediation centre, which must commence immediately. We would also call off the strike on the the first day of June.

“In the interest of Nigerians, we are sheathing our swords. We are a law-abiding union, and we shall give the law an opportunity to take its course for equity, fairness and justice to all parties.”

Mexico Striker Oribe Peralta Confirms He’ll Retire From The National Team After The World Cup

Mexico striker Oribe Peralta will retire from the national team after Russia 2018 World Cup, he confirmed in an interview with Marca Claro.

The 34-year-old Club America striker has played 65 times for El Tri, netted 26 goals, and is expected to make the cut when coach Juan Carlos Osorio reduces his squad from 27 players to 23 on June 3.

“After the World Cup I’ll retire from the national team,” said Oribe Peralta, indicating his mind is already made up.

Peralta started all four of Mexico’s games at the 2014 World Cup and has been a regular in the national team since scoring four goals on El Tri‘s path to winning Olympic gold at London 2012.

Brazil’s Danilo Defends The Team’s Closed Training Sessions Ahead Of World Cup

Featured Image

Brazil defender  Danilo has defended his team’s closed training sessions during World Cup preparations this summer.

Brazil boss Tite once again only allowed media to watch just 30 minutes of Wednesday’s training.

Angry Brazil fans broke in and booed the team during one of its final training sessions in Rio de Janeiro last week due to the Selecao‘s lack of contact with supporters while on home soil.

However, the Manchester City right-back said he approves of the closed sessions.

“Yes, it is better for us. We have tranquility to work,” Danilo said. “Our trainings are different from the games and we need to use them well, just us.”

Argentina Are Not Serious World Cup Candidates – Lionel Messi

Featured Image

Argentina captain Lionel Messi has suggested that his side cannot be considered serious candidates to win the 2018 World Cup.

Argentina is ranked fifth favourites with most bookmakers to lift the famous trophy in Russia this summer, behind only Brazil, Germany, Spain and France.

Lionel Messi was part of the Argentina side that finished runners-up four years ago in Brazil and, after netting a hat-trick in the midweek friendly win against Haiti, the Barcelona superstar is not entirely giving up hope of going one better this time around.

“I am very grateful to all the people, we always feel the affection of all, not like other times that we received insults,” he told reporters. “We all go to Russia for the same reason, the World Cup is the dream of us, of the country.

“We are not candidates but we are very good, training and improving day by day. We have good players and we are getting stronger to fight as an equal with anyone

“In a World Cup, logic is almost never given. We have to aim to win the first game, which is the most important because it will give us peace of mind. Let no one have doubts that we are going to try everything, as people always ask us.

“We are going with a great squad that is becoming strong at the team and individual level. We are facing a beautiful possibility and we are looking for that.

I Feel More Comfortable Playing For England Than Manchester United – Jesse Lingard

Featured Image

Jesse Lingard has revealed that he feels “more comfortable” playing for England than for Manchester United.

Jesse Lingard,25, will be part of Gareth Southgate‘s 23-man squad travelling to Russia following a fruitful season at club level in which he scored 13 goals in 48 games.

Lingard, who has won 10 caps, will be taking part in his first World Cup and, speaking ahead of the friendly against Nigeria on June 2, he admits that playing for the Three Lions makes him feel at ease.

“I actually feel more comfortable when I play for England than United,” Lingard told GQ. “Every game, you’ve got to play with no fear.

“It’s one of the pinnacles of your career as a player and it will be my first World Cup so I’ve got to enjoy every minute, whether I start or if I’ve got to make an impact from the bench.

“And I do think we will do well because of the team spirit we’ve got.”

While his Manchester United teammate Marcus Rashford made his United and England debuts as a teenager, Lingard has had to be more patient.

He was 21 when he made his first-team debut for United before his first England appearance came two years later.

“I think United always had a plan for me,” Lingard said. “They nurtured me. Sir Alex [Ferguson] said that when I was 23, 24, that’s when I would make it and he was right. I believed in him and trusted him.”

Manuel Neuer Returns To Action For Germany After Recovering From A Broken Foot Injury

Featured Image

Manuel Neuer has stepped up his comeback from injury with Germany by playing 30 minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Monday.

The 32-year-old has broken his foot three times since March 2017 and made only three Bundesliga appearances this season, the last coming in Bayern Munich‘s 4-0 win over Mainz on September 16.

However, Manuel Neuer has now managed to play his first football in over eight months, taking part in Germany’s 7-1 victory over their Under-20s side in the northern Italian town of Eppan.

The 2014 World Cup winner shared goalkeeping duties with  Marc-Andre ter Stegen in the 60-minute match, which also saw Manchester City’s Leroy Sane score twice.

Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule was impressed by what he saw from Neuer in training ahead of the goalkeeper’s return against Austria in a friendly on Saturday.

“At first I couldn’t believe it, when Manu did his first training after four months out and sensationally saved one ball after the other. It was as if he had never left,” he said on Wednesday.

“I hadn’t witnessed something like that before. His body language is simply incredible.

“He is the best keeper in the world, and for me it is great to play with him at the Bayern and cause him problems by shooting my swirling shots on goal.”

Neuer is Germany’s undisputed number one if fit, which would leave Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen on the bench.

Dani Jarque Death Left Me Feeling Empty – Andres Iniesta

Featured Image

Andres Iniesta has opened up on his struggles following the death of fellow footballer and close friend Dani Jarque in 2009.

The Espanyol defender passed away from heart failure while on a pre-season tour of Italy with the Catalan club at the age of 26.

Iniesta admits that he had “no feelings or passion” following Dani Jarque’s death and that he sought help during that difficult period in his life.

“You feel that it’s not you, that you don’t enjoy things, that the people around you are just people,” the 34-year-old, who recently left Barca to join Vissel Kobe in Japan, told Spanish television outlet Antena 3.

“You have no feelings or passion. You end up feeling empty inside and there is a moment that you realise that you cannot take it anymore.

“I had the ability to see that I needed to see someone to get out of that situation. The important thing is that in that period I never lost the spark.”

The Barcelona legend, who recently left the club to join Vissel Kobe in Japan, famously dedicated his 2010 World Cup winning goal to Jarque by removing his shirt and revealing a tribute written on his vest that said ‘Dani Jarque – always with us’.

Newcastle Complete Permanent Signing Of Martin Dubravka From Sparta Prague

Featured Image

Newcastle have completed the signing of Sparta Prague goalkeeper Martin Dubravka on a permanent deal.

Martin Dubravka becomes the Magpies’ first signing of the summer on a contract until June 2022 after the Premier League club activated an option to sign the player.

Dubravka initially joined Newcastle on loan from Sparta in January 2018 and quickly became a key component of Rafael Benitez‘s squad.

The Slovakia international kept a clean sheet on his debut in a 1-0 home win over Manchester United and went on to make 12 league appearances as the Magpies finished tenth in the top flight.

“We’re delighted to finalise the permanent signing of Martin to Newcastle United today,” Benitez told the official club website.

“Ever since he arrived with us on loan he has shown a fantastic attitude and great work ethic, and of course we have been very impressed with his performances for us on the pitch last season.

“This was one of the key positions we had identified we needed to strengthen and had been concerned about, so it is excellent news that we are able now to sign him on a permanent basis.

“The loan deal with an option to buy was the perfect deal for the club… we now say congratulations to Martin and look forward to having him with us for the long term at Newcastle United.”

Former Liverpool Midfielder Dietmar Hamann Criticises Loris Karius’s Post-match Behaviour

Featured Image

Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has said that ‘his sympathy with Loris Karius is very limited’ following the goalkeeper’s high-profile blunders against Real Madrid.

Loris Karius gifted the opposition two goals at the NSC Olimpiyskiy Stadium as the Reds fell to a 3-1 loss in last weekend’s Champions League final.

The German goalkeeper broke down in tears and made apologetic gestures to his side’s supporters in the stands after the match, which Hamann – a 2005 Champions League winner with Liverpool – did not agree with.

“My sympathy with Karius is limited,” he told Sport Bild. “We don’t have to discuss that he decided the final with his two mistakes. Something like that can also happen to a professional footballer. But what I didn’t like was his behaviour afterwards.

“To publicly show his suffering after the final whistle was just as unnecessary as his tearful asking for forgiveness from the Reds fans. Liverpool fans forgive their stars just as well as any other, the anthem ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ is part of life out at the club. With one exception: when your ego doesn’t match your performance.

“Karius drives through Liverpool with the personalised number plates ‘LK1’ and makes waves in the city whenever he steps out. That is something Cristiano Ronaldo can pull off in Madrid because he has won the Champions League five times.

“Someone like Karius has not achieved anything yet in his career and should be happy to have been given the chance by Klopp at a world-class club.”
