All Love Stories Come To An End – Arsene Wenger

Featured Image

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is finding it tough saying goodbye to the club after more than two decades at the club, but concedes that “all love stories come to an end”.

Arsene Wenger is preparing for his final week in charge of the Gunners, beginning with Sunday’s home match against Burnley and then back-to-back trips to Leicester City and Huddersfield Town.

An emotional send-off is expected at the Emirates Stadium this weekend as around 60,000 supporters are given a chance to say farewell for one last time, and Wenger admits that he is now heading into a period of uncertainty.

“I had some time to adjust to that and to get that idea into my head,” he told Sky Sports News. “It is sad, but all love stories come to an end. They do not always finish well. Most of the time they don’t finish well.

“I feel sad because I love this club and what the club represents – 22 years of your life and to walk away is not easy. I have dealt with difficult situations before in my life and I will do it again.”

Tony Bellew vs David Haye 2: Haye, Bellew Both Lighter For Heavyweight Rematch

Featured Image

David Haye and Tony Bellew have both weighed in at a lighter weight for Saturday night’s heavyweight rematch at the O2 Arena in London.

After fending off accusations regarding his fitness levels, having suffered bicep and Achilles injuries, Haye tipped the scales at 15st 10lbs 2oz.

Bellew, who won last year’s bout at the same venue with an 11th-round stoppage, came in at 15st 4oz on the eve of the fight – around three pounds lighter than before, compared to four pounds for his opponents.

Speaking to Sky Sports News after the weigh-in on Friday afternoon, Bellew said: “The scales were heavy, but no problem. Weight is just a number.

“He really thinks I didn’t get in the ring with the real David Haye. Someone please show me who I was facing? With those muscles, those beautiful abdominals, that sharp haircut, those big pectorals – I’m sure it was him!

“The only thing that’s getting dragged out is me hitting you with body shots. Your 37-year-old body can’t do what my body can do.”

In response, Haye said: “I knew my weight would be lighter, I feel healthy,” said Haye. “I just wanted to make sure I’m fast, accurate and ready for battle. My body has held up in training way better than before.

“I can do things I couldn’t do for many years. He thinks I’ve made a mistake, I disagree, I told him I’m a very different fighter to who he fought last time. People will see a prime David Haye, I’m ready for war!”

The fight is due to get underway at around 10pm on Saturday night.

Raul Visit ‘Amazing’ For Harry Kane And Tottenham – Mauricio Pochettino

Featured Image

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has said that the opportunity to welcome Real Madrid legend Raul to the club’s training ground was a “massive” day for the club.

Earlier this week, Raul linked up with Pochettino and his squad as he looks to complete his coaching badges, with the former Spain international specifically selecting the North London outfit ahead of other clubs.

Pochettino has suggested that he relished the chance to work with the ex-forward and feels that both experienced and younger members of his first-team squad can only have benefitted from working with the three-time Champions League winner.

At a press conference, the 46-year-old told reporters: “It was a very good impact. Everyone here, not only in Tottenham but around the world you admire a legend like Raul. All that means as a player but as a professional too. It was fantastic to share with him, the whole day yesterday, and say thank you to him, because to choose Tottenham and try to learn and see how we work, that’s massive praise to us.

“I want to say thank you too because he was open to meet our younger players too. It was fantastic, 45 minutes talking about his career, giving advice to the younger players. Of course our captains, Hugo [Lloris] and Harry [Kane], met us yesterday. It was a fantastic day for us, to see how humble he is, a player like him who is a legend.

“I think it was a massive, massive day. He shared a lunch with us afterwards and all the players were saying hello, and then the possibility to train with us. It was amazing for everyone.”

Steven Gerrard Must Gain Trust At Rangers – Mauricio Pochettino

Featured Image

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has claimed that Steven Gerrard will quickly need to win everyone’s trust at his new club Rangers.

On Friday, Steven Gerrard was confirmed as the new manager of the Glasgow giants, who have handed the Liverpool legend a four-year deal at Ibrox.

The role is Gerrard’s first in charge of a senior squad, and Pochettino has suggested that the former England captain will need to ensure that he is able to effectively pass on his ideas to the team.

At a press conference, the 46-year-old told reporters: “First of all it is to translate your ideas and convince the players to follow you – and not only the players. The staff, everyone, needs to believe in you.

“That is the hardest job, and of course you need some luck too, because that is important to, and enjoy it of course. Steven was an amazing, great player and it’s sure he has the experience to manage. I wish him all the best because it will be fantastic for football to have him as a manager and one day to challenge him.”

“No, You’re The One God Will Punish” – Presidential Aspirant Replies Buhari

Featured Image

Dr. Olapade Agoro, a presidential aspirant and chairman of National Action Council (NAC), has reacted to a statement attributed to President Muhammadu Buhari, in which the country’s current leader was said to have sought God’s intervention on past Nigerian leaders.

President Buhari was said to have taken a swipe at the previous leaders of the country – between 1999 and 2015 – under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying God will judge them for mismanaging the country’s resources.

“Nigerians know that there were no roads or rail lines, there was no power, despite the billions of dollars spent. Only God will judge this thing,” Mr Buhari had said.

“In those 16 years of PDP rule, Nigeria was getting 2.1 million times 100 (2.1 million barrels by $100 per barrel) everyday, every week, but when we came on board, the price fell to between $37-38 and hung around $40-$50.

“I went to the Central Bank of Nigeria, – the governor of CBN is here – and asked him, how far? And he said nothing was left apart from debts. I said, but this is what the country made? And he said: Yes. He knew, and I asked him, where is the money? All gone,” he had added.

But Dr. Agoro, in a statement released on May 3, and sighted by Sahara Reporters said:

“If the Most Righteous God of justice were to mark the signs of inequity, it becomes apt to mention that President Muhammadu Buhari would be chief among those to the severely punished of all past and present Nigerian leaders if his political life misdemeanors were to be visited.

“God will no doubt punish President Muhammadu Buhari for the socio- economic unprecedented woes and blood of the innocent currently plaguing the nation and making lives not worth it for us all.

“From case of the poor and innocent Leah Suaribu now left languishing alone in the hands of Boko Haram terrorists, to the perspective of the most oppressive decree 2 promulgated by his regime in 1984, he sent two innocent Guardian Newspaper journalists Tunde Thompson and Nduka Irabo to jail terms, that of the issue of 53 suit cases stowed away from custom checks, that of the retroactive Decree 20 that got Bartholomew Owoh executed rather than being sent to serve six months jail term under the then prevailing order,” Dr Agoro said.

“That of the Special Military Tribunal that jailed Governor Abubakar Musa Rimi for 21 years for corruptively enriching 96 legislators of Kano State House of Assembly with 500,000 naira on March 28 1985, that of 1984 jailing of Governor Awaal Muhammed of Niger State for corrupt practices; that of jailing former Governor Ambrose Ali of Bendel State to 100 years for misappropriation of N983, 000; that of 1984 sending former Rivers State Governor Melford Okilo to 21 years jail term for holding foreign bank account contrary to prevailing laws in Nigeria; that of sending Governor Aper Aku to 21 years jail term for borrowing Naira 50000 from Benue breweries; Sending Governor Sabo Bakin Suwo to 21 years jail term for boxes full of cash found in his house among others.”

“God will no doubt and must punish President Muhammadu Buhari for his poor economic management of the nation’s resources. And lastly God will punish President Muhammadu Buhari because never has Nigeria had a sitting President or Head of State jumping over the bother line of decency and democratic values engaging bad language to pour vituperations and evil wishes on their wives, the youths of the country and our past leaders.”

Barcelona Interested In Signing Santos Wonderkid Rodrygo

Featured Image
Barcelona are hoping to sign Santos striker Rodrygo, according to Sport.

The report suggests the La Liga champions are keen on signing the 17-year-old after having a meeting with the player dubbed the “new Neymar” and his representatives.

However, due to his age the Spanish giants would not be able to bring him to the Nou Camp him until January 2019 when he turns 18.

According to Spanish newspaper SPORT, Rodrygo’s agent and his father, Eric Batista de Goes, travelled to the Spanish city to meet up with the La Liga champions.

The forward became the youngest goalscorer in the Copa Libertadores in March after missing lessons at school to play for Santos in their 3-1 win over Nacional.

He has already drawn comparisons with previous Santos star Neymar while some Brazilians are claiming he can be better than Vinicius Jr who has signed for rivals Real Madrid.

Barcelona have watched him closely in recent weeks, although Manchester United and Liverpool are also keeping an eye on the teenage sensation.

The Brazil Under 17 international has a release clause in his contract set at £45million.

Leicester City Owners Give Manager Claude Puel The Dreaded Vote Of Confidence

Featured Image

Leicester City’s owners flew into the training ground today, to meet with the team and the manager, and they offered Claude Puel their full backing.

The helicopter containing Chairman Vichai Shrivadhanaprabbha and his son and vice chairman Aiyawatt was seen arriving in time for them to watch this morning’s training session. After that, we’ve been told the duo met with Puel and told him he has their full support going forward.

Claude Puel has come under increasing pressure and a media spotlight questioning his future; the team has taken one point from the last 12 available, and lost 5-0 at Crystal Palace last weekend.

But Leicester’s Thai owners have decided to stick with him in charge, and they’ve now communicated that directly to the Frenchman.

Puel was assured of the”full support” of Leicester’s owners in a statement which evoked memories of Claudio Ranieri’s demise a year ago. In February last year Ranieri was given public backing and then sacked two weeks later, and Puel is also facing a huge battle to convince the board he can take the club forward.

“It’s not just about me, I think it is a support for all the people in the club, with confidence, with all people working for [Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, the owner],’ said Puel. “He gave his support because our last games were not enough in the quality. We have to make amends about this. We understand the situation. We have to push together.
“The message from the owner is clear. We need to finish strong, to respect the club, the owners, the fans. It is not a surprise for me. We had discussions to finish the season and prepare next season.”

Leicester face West Ham at home on Saturday aiming to secure a top-ten finish, before finishing the campaign with games against Arsenal (h) and Tottenham Hotspur (a).

Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha said: “We, as a club, owe it to you, our fans, to respond positively to the disappointment of last weekend’s result. The best way to achieve this is to come together, to support our team, support our manager and to create the kind of atmosphere that has made King Power Stadium our fortress.’

Peter Crouch To Consider His Future At Stoke City If They Get Relegated

Featured Image

Peter Crouch admits he will have to consider his future at Stoke if they are relegated from the Premier League this season.

Peter Crouch signed a one-year extension in November that ties him to the club until 2019.

However, with Stoke facing an uphill battle to stay in the top-flight, he told Sky Sports: “It’s a difficult one. I signed for another year because I thought we would be in the Premier League, it didn’t even enter my head that we wouldn’t be.”

“I have to take stock in the summer and we have to address what has gone on this season because we have been nowhere near it. From a personal point of view it would be a real shame to leave this club. For me it’s about playing these two games and everything else will take care of itself in the summer.”

Stoke are three points from safety with two matches left to play – at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday and then at Swansea on the final day.

‘Buhari Still Using Jonathan’s Old Cars’

Featured Image

President Muhammadu Buhari arrived home on Thursday night from his trip to the United States.

Among the photographs capturing the tempered homecoming reception, were several showing the car that took the president home in Aso Villa.

A closer look shows that the black Mercedes Benz Maybach is old, the colour is devoid of any sheen and there are scratches at the back bumper. Even the tyres appear to have seen better days.

The News Agency Nigeria (NAN) learnt that President Buhari has refused to change the fleet he inherited from his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, since 2015.

In 2016, the president, who had cut his salary by 50 per cent, struck out a move to spend N400 million on new cars for him. The money was to be used to buy five new armoured Mercedes Benz S-600 (V222) cars.

NAN learnt the President believes the cars passed on to him, can still last another 10 years, thus helping the nation conserve scarce funds.

No wonder, the Buhari government, as Vice President Osinbajo has said repeatedly, is doing much more with the nation’s financial resources, despite the declining income.

This is in sharp contrast with the profligate Jonathan years, when oil at a stage was selling at $140 a barrel and the nation became poorer for it.

INEC Spends ‘Only’ N100m On Melaye’s Failed Recall

Featured Image

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, on Friday, May 4, disclosed that the commission spent only N100m on the failed attempt to recall Kogi-West lawmaker, Senator Dino Melaye.

The INEC chairman stated this while responding to questions posed to him at a press conference in Abuja, the nation’s capital, today.

Dino Melaye: How Arrested Senator Jumped Out Of Moving Police Vehicle, Landed In Hospital

Yakubu said the figure was nowhere near the N100bn being bandied by the Peoples Democratic Party.

”A recall exercise is just like conducting a Senatorial election, adding that Kogi-West which Melaye represents, has 552 polling units and seven local governments.

“Ad hoc staff were deployed in all the polling units.” Yakubu added.

INEC had during the week declared that the process failed after the verified signatories to the petition for Melaye’s recall fell short of requirements.

Reps Reject Bill Seeking To Grant Paternity Leave To Nigerian Men

Featured Image

Lawmakers of the House of Representatives on Thursday rejected a bill seeking to grant leave to Nigerian male workers – married men – in advent of child birth by their wives.

According to them, Nigerian cultural and economic  environment is not ripe for such privilege yet.

The bill, if passed, would have given fathers in both the private and public sector the option to take paternity leave.

During its second reading on Thursday, Edward Pwajok, a lawmaker from Plateau State, who sponsored the bill, argued that the idea that only women care for children is “outdated”.

“No better person can support a newly born baby than the father which will make the child more emotionally stable if the father stayed close.

“This will not be peculiar to Nigeria alone, it’s done globally,” he added.

He added that nations such as Denmark, UK, Iceland, Australia have all made progress partly because of their recognition of the role of men in the upbringing of children.

“As father’s share of parenting is on the increase, they experience similar challenges with women, such as their jobs and family duties clashing,” he said.

“Making provision for maternity leave without provision for maternity leave is discriminatory against men.”

Most of the lawmakers, however, described it as unnecessary, with Kingsley Chinda from Rivers stating that it should be thrown out.

He said: “What is the spirit behind the labour law? I think that this bill should be thrown out.”

However, when placed on voice note, the motion was roundly defeated.

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure will leave the club at the end of the season, Pep Guardiola has confirmed

Yaya Toure, who signed a one-year contract at the end of last season, joined City from Barcelona in 2010.

And as he prepared his side to face Huddersfield on Sunday and Brighton on Wednesday in two home games, Guardiola confirmed that the Ivory Coast international will be leaving the Etihad Stadium.

“The Brighton game, we will focus on winning and Yaya. We are going to try to win the game for him,” he said.

“Yaya came here at the start of the journey. Where we are now is because of what he has done. He was a key player.”

Guardiola also confirmed he will be at the Etihad next season but will not be drawn on the possibility of a new contract.

“I stay for sure one more year. We have three more games. We have time for everything in life,” he added.

“What we have to think about is winning another game. We can break huge records but the target is to win the game.

“Of course it will be a special day. We are going to enjoy it.”
