Jack Ross is set to be confirmed as Sunderland’s new manager tomorrow.
St Mirren confirmed this evening they’ve given Sunderland permission to speak to the highly-rated Jack Ross, hours after we reported at lunchtime a broad agreement was in place between Sunderland and the Scottish PFA Manager of the Year.
Ross will earn £350,000 – five times his St Mirren salary – and he has accepted the job after being promised the minimum of a year to turn things round.
He’s agreed a two- year deal, with the option of a third. St Mirren are due £50,000 compensation for Ross’s services, but are seeking more given the nature of the approach.
Ross led St Mirren to promotion in his first full campaign in charge. The Scot’s work while winning the Championship north of the border has attracted admirers and last week he held “advanced talks” with Ipswich over their vacancy.
Michael Ballack is being considered as a replacement for Michael Emenalo as director of football at Chelsea, according to Evening Standard.
The report says Michael Ballack has been added to the list of names under consideration, which include another former Chelsea player, Juliano Belletti, and Lille’s sporting director Luis Campos.
Ballack is well regarded by Chelsea fans. He had a short stay at the club but made himself an instant fan favourite with his superb performances that drove the team forward at the time when they had perhaps their best ever first XI.
Ballack still attends events at Chelsea on a regular basis and played in a Legends match against Inter Milan on Friday night — a match dedicated to Ray Wilkins, who passed away last month.
Senegal’s primary objective at the World Cup is to make their people proud and “write our own story”, the nations captain Cheikhou Kouyate told reporters as the squad began training in the beach resort of Saly-Portudal.
Senegal will make only their second World Cup appearance when they compete in Group H at next month’s finals in Russia against Poland, Japan and Colombia.
Their previous appearance in 2002 saw them beat holders France in the opening game and go onto to become only the second African team to reach the quarter-finals.
“The World Cup is a competition that takes place every four years and it is not given to everyone to take part,” Kouyate said.
“We have the chance now to participate and we will prepare well to please the Senegalese people. We want to write our own story.
“We are going to play match by match, but the most important thing is to be ready on the day of the game,” the West Ham United midfielder added.
UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin criticised his FIFA counterpart Gianni Infantino’s plans to create two new tournaments as “highly cynical and ruthless mercantilism” and accused the global body of selling the soul of the game.
After bodies representing European clubs and leagues came out against the plan, Ceferin’s speech at the European Union in Brussels indicates a serious rift between Infantino and the European game.
Infantino, previously UEFA’s General Secretary, has proposed staging what would effectively be a mini-World Cup. It would feature eight international teams and take place every two years in addition to the traditional event.
The ‘Final Eight’ would be the conclusion to a ‘Global Nations League’ while the FIFA president also wants to see an expanded Club World Cup with 24 teams as part of a package which he says unnamed investors are willing to invest $25 billion over 12 years.
In an address to the Council of European Union Sports Ministers in Brussels on Wednesday, Ceferin said: “As long as I am UEFA President there will be no room for pursuing selfish endeavours or hiding behind false pretences.
“I cannot accept that some people who are blinded by the pursuit of profit are considering to sell the soul of football tournaments to nebulous private funds.
“Money does not rule – and the European sports model must be respected. Football is not for sale. I will not let anyone sacrifice its structures on the altar of a highly cynical and ruthless mercantilism.”
Ceferin said that the game needed to address the concentration of wealth among a small group of clubs because it “threatens the competitive balance that is essential to football’s appeal”.
“We are ready to take action to enhance competitive balance … There is an urgent need to act and respond before it is too late.”
Iniesta is set to be presented next weekend where his three year contract will be announced.
Kobe are owned by Hiroshi Mikitani, who is also the chief executive of Barcelona’s main sponsor Rakuten. They have never won Japan’s league championship and are currently placed seventh in the J-League.

David Gold says West Ham plan to provide new manager Manuel Pellegrini with more transfer funds this summer than in any previous transfer window.
Manuel Pellegrini was confirmed as Hammers boss on Tuesday and immediately targeted “four or five” new signings to ensure no repeat of last season’s relegation struggle.
Gold and fellow joint-chairman David Sullivan have come under fire for a perceived lack of spending in the past, but the 81-year-old has promised to splash the cash with Pellegrini already putting together his wish list.
“He’s working on it right now, that’s why he’s been brought in,” Gold told talkSPORT.
“He’s identified the positions he feels we need to strengthen, and it’s up to him now to tell us the players and we’ll do everything we can to bring them in.
“You can’t put a figure on it because you don’t know which players are going to leave and that will add to the kitty, but what I can assure everyone is we will probably spend more money in this window than we’ve spent in any window in the past.”
Henrikh Mkhitaryan hopes new Arsenal head coach Unai Emery will bring some fresh “tactical ideas and spirit” to the club.
Spaniard Emery has succeeded Arsene Wenger, who was manager for 22 years, and set out his positive vision for the future when speaking at a media conference on Wednesday afternoon.
Attacking midfielder Mkhitaryan joined the Gunners from Manchester United in January as part of the deal which saw Alexis Sanchez head to Old Trafford. The Armenian feels Emery, who left Paris St Germain at the end of the season having won the French domestic treble, can make a real impact at the Emirates Stadium.
“I still haven’t had an opportunity to meet him,” Henrikh Mkhitaryan said in an interview with VivaroNews Sport. “We didn’t have time to talk with each other. I hope he will bring new tactical ideas and spirit to Arsenal, and I hope he will succeed. I haven’t talked to my team-mates about him. I would like to meet him. Everyone at the club is a professional. Everyone knows what he should do and what he is expected to do.”
Emery’s arrival comes less than two weeks after Wenger brought the curtain down on over two decades in north London in emotional fashion.
“Not only players, but the staff overall were sad,” Mkhitaryan said of Wenger’s exit. “It’s not that easy to handle the exit of a man who was managing the team for 22 years. You can’t imagine how everyone was amazed by the atmosphere he had created.
“If he had decided to stay for 10 more years, no-one would have been against it.”

The former Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain coach has been out of work since being sacked by Bayern Munich in September.

A Kenyan lady has been imprisoned for 15 years by a local court after she was found guilty of defiling a 16-year-old boy.
The suspect, Judith Wandera, 24, was accused of defiling the minor on various dates with witnesses lined up by the prosecution pointing out an accusing finger at the woman.
Standard Media quoted a prosecutor, Nyakundi Mukaya, as telling the court that medical evidence from a specimen collected from the duo confirmed that the woman and the schoolboy were having an intimate affair.
The prosecutor further said that the boy had been living with the accused for more than four months.
The court was informed that as a result of the affair, the minor dropped out of school and moved in with the accused before the boy was rescued by police officers.
“The boy was rescued on July 7, 2017, and the accused was arrested by police officers,” said Mukaya. After the rescue, he said, the boy was taken to a correctional facility before he was released back to his parents.
Also speaking, the parents of the boy told the court that their son stopped taking school seriously after he met the woman and they sought the intervention of the police after the boy started living with her.
But in her defense, Wandera said that she did not know that the boy was a minor adding that he was a drug addict by the time they met.
“We met at a drinking joint one evening of April 2016 in Kondele where he even offered to buy me drinks.
We exchanged phone contacts and started dating,” Wandera added that she could not establish the age of the boy because he was also a boda boda operator (commercial motorcycle rider) and only appeared “young when he came to testify”.
“He had dreadlocks when we met and only appeared young after his dreadlocks were shaved before he was brought to court to testify,” said Wandera in her defence.

He said any applicant found to have procured visa with fake documents would have his passport revoked.
Audu also said that such person would be handed over to the appropriate authority for sanctioning.
He said the unit was working with the Regional Security Officers of the American consulate to clamp down on applicants processing visa with fake documents.
He advised applicants to process their visa online.
Superstar Nigerian musician, Innocent Idibia popularly known as 2Baba has been commissioned as Electoral campaign Peace Ambassador.
The singer was commissioned at a recent event on Voter’s registration, organised by Youngstars Development Initiative, 2Baba Foundation and New Generation for Girls and Women Development (NIGAWD) in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
While speaking at the event, the Ekiti State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Abdul Ganiyu Raji, warned youths in the state against violence and vote buying during the forthcoming election.
The parley tagged “Vote Not Fight: Election No Be War” was also supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the United Kingdom for International Development (UKAID) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI).
The youth who were drawn from all the 16 local government areas promised to take the campaign to their localities to ensure a peaceful poll. Raji disclosed that between 60 and 70 percent of those involved in violence during elections are youths whom he said are induced with money by desperate politicians in a bid to win at all cost.
“Ekiti is a volatile state, the news being heard outside is that you cannot enter Ekiti.
But the perception must change. It has moved from rigging or snatching of electoral materials to vote buying and vote selling. Before, when an election is disrupted, it will be cancelled but that no longer obtains.
NIGAWD Executive Director, Abimbola Aladejare, disclosed that the Vote Not Fight campaign will take the message of peace to political actors, media organizations, transport workers, traditional rulers, religious leaders and other stakeholders.
Country Director of NDI, Aubrey Cutcheon, urged the youths to show readiness to take leadership roles and not allow themselves to be used as thugs. Others who addressed the youths at the forum included the state Commissioner of Police, Bello Ahmed represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ede Ayuba; the State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dayo Famosaya; Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ) Chairman, Rotimi Ojomoyela.
The Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) had introduced five revolutionary services to improve the lives of the citizens, an official said on Tuesday, May 22.
The Minister of Communications, Mr Shittu Adebayo, made this known at the Indo-Africa ICT Expo 2018 with the theme: “One World, One Platform: Let’s Talk About Digital Transformation”, PM News reports.
The minister said that the revolutionary services would ease life especially in rural areas and generate revenues for the Federal Government.
According to him, the revolutionary services are NIPOST banking and insurance, NIPOST property and development, transport and logistics, NIPOST e-commerce and e-governance
The minister said that NIPOST banking and insurance would t replicate what rural banking was doing.
“The majority of Nigerians are not financially inclusive; so, NIPOST is going to fill the gap.
“The aim of NIPOST property and development service was to ensure that all the extra lands of NIPOST scattered all over the country were properly leased out.
” It will be leased to private sectors for shops and any other facility that would create income.
“Transport and logistics service will ensure commercialisation of NIPOST fleet of vehicles which currently are used to carry reduced postal materials, as people no longer have course to write letters,” Adebayo said.
He gave the assurance that patronising NIPOST would be beneficial.
“When you patronise NIPOST, you are sure that no money will be lost.
“You are also sure that NIPOST has all it takes because it is all over the place, in more than 1,500 locations in the country.
“No other company has that strength of network; so, when you have NIPOST e-commerce services, you are sure of getting whatever you buy online from NIPOST.
“Lastly, NIPOST e-governance helps to reduce cost and risk by ensuring that government facilities are made available at the rural areas and not only capital, the minister said.
The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted leave to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to proceed with the trial of embattled former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, in his absence.
On Wednesday, Justice Okon Abang said the court was entitled to proceed with the trial in Metuh’s absence, considering the defendant’s previous several attempts to frustrate the trial and the way he allegedly conducted himself after he fell down in court on Monday.
Justice Abang agreed with EFCC that Metuh had on Monday, engaged in gross misconduct when he disobediently attempted to enter the dock after the court had permitted him to remain where he was initially seated. He noted that Metuh subsequently fell down on his own and disrupted proceedings by whispering loudly in the open court and groaning intermittently, “giving the impression that he was in serious pain”.
“The 1st defendant has no right to hold this court to ransom by doing things or taking steps deliberately intended to scuttle his trial. The 1st defendant has repeatedly made the court of law look like an accident scene. This conduct should not be allowed in the temple of justice” Justice Abang held.
He added that since April 2016, Metuh has repeatedly “erected several road blocks aimed at frustrating this trial”. “In a bid to dismantle those road blocks, the court was accused of being biased and conducting unfair trial. However, this court will stand its ground and always do what is right” He said.
Olisa Metuh is answering to a seven-count charge alongside his firm, Destra Investment Ltd. EFCC alleged that he received N400million from the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, prior to the 2015 presidential election, without executing any contract.

Nigerians have begun to react as President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, May 22, praised the late military dictator, Sani Abacha, for his work in building infrastructure, saying no matter what you think about him, he built roads, hospitals among others.
According to Buhari, regardless of what anyone thinks about Abacha, it must be remembered that subsequent civilian presidents spent billions on naira in infrastructure yet have had little to show for it.
His words: “And you know more than I do the condition of the roads and some of them were not repaired since PTF days. No matter what opinion you have about Abacha, I agreed to work with him and the PTF road we did from here to Port Harcourt, to Onitsha, to Benin and so on… On top of other things in the institution, education, medical care and so on.”
In the comment that appeared directed at former president Olusegun Obasanjo, Buhari specifically noted: “You know the rail was killed and one of the former Heads of State between that time was bragging that he spent more than 15 billion American dollars not Naira on power. Where is the power? Where is the power?”
However, Nigerians have since taken to Twitter to show their different reactions with respect to the president’s adulation for the late ruler.
See tweets below:
Same Abacha that locked up MKO till death. Murdered Ken Saro-Wiwa and Kudirat Abiola. Looted silly via PTF with Buhari as Chairman?
Amazing how many SW Leaders that were crying “Yoruba ronu o” over MKO’s incarceration are now teammates with Buhari & Abacha family inside APC. https://t.co/VTouEb6ZfA
What type of anti corruption crusader chooses Abacha, a proven thief, who was also a blood thirsty buffoon, as his mentor? When I schooled in England, my university had a module on Abacha’s thievery. This is the man Buhari aspires to be? The man who exiled Tinubu and NADECO!
Incompetent Buhari started his Abacha praise with, “no matter what opinion u have about him.” So he thinks our insistence that Abacha plundered Nigeria is just our opinion. Even as a sitting president trying to repatriate the late looter’s funds, Buhari considers Abacha a saint.

While enumerating what he called the achievements of the present administration in agriculture, the customs boss said manna does not fall from heaven, and as such, only those who work hard will have enough to eat.
He further lauded the president saying: “our economy has grown all because of the discipline you have instilled in the financial sector. All those nonchalant attitudes, all those days of siphoning money are no longer feasible.
“Mr President, today we are seeing physically where people are rejecting foreign rice for local rice. Today Mr President if you go to some of our houses, what you will see is local rice and that is wealth for our people.
“Last year, during the Hajj period when I went home, many farmers came to me that they have never had it so good, so much so that the first 25 people that paid up their money when Hajj fares were announced, were rice farmers. What more can we say in terms of growth of wealth?
“People say we are hungry, of course the lazy must be hungry because if you do not work hard, manna doesn’t fall from heaven. So, when people say we are hungry, there was never a time in Nigeria that food is dropped in the mouth of the people and there will never be.
“I can go on and on and enumerate what you have done in just three years of your administration but three is not enough to undo what was done in 16 years. The destruction, the monumental stealing that we have witnessed, the destruction of our structures and our system, it takes more than eight years to be able to address them and I believe in three years you have done wonderfully well.”
Unai Emery has been appointed as the new manager of Arsenal, the club announced on Wednesday, May 23, 2018.

“Unai has an outstanding track record of success throughout his career, has developed some of the best young talent in Europe and plays an exciting, progressive style of football that fits Arsenal perfectly,” said chief executive Ivan Gazidis.
“I am thrilled to be joining one of the great clubs in the game,” said the new Spanish boss.
“Arsenal is known and loved throughout the world for its style of play, its commitment to young players, the fantastic stadium, the way the club is run.
“I’m very excited to be given the responsibility to start this important new chapter in Arsenal’s history.”
President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, May 22, dared the lawmakers of the country’s National Assembly to confront him publicly on capital projects.
TheCable reports that the president stated this when he hosted the Buhari Support Organisation (BSO) led by Hameed Ali, comptroller-general of the Nigeria Customs Service.
President Buhari wondered what members of the national assembly have been doing, even when some of them have spent over a decade as lawmakers.
“This year and last year’s budget I took to the national assembly was the highest in capital projects – more than 1.3 trillion naira. Let anybody come and confront me publicly in the national assembly,” he said.
“What have they been doing? Some of them have been there for 10 years. What have they been doing?”
There was a dispute between the duo before now as the national assembly had disagreed with Buhari over the purchase of $496 million Tucano aircraft from the US without its approval.
