Gary Cahill and Harry Kane scored for England, as they beat the Super Eagles of Nigeria 2-1 in an international friendly played at Wembley

On Gary Cahill’s first England appearance since October, he headed in the opener in the seventh minute from Kieran Trippier’s corner in front of 70,000 fans at Wembley Stadium.

Raheem Sterling set up Kane to double England’s lead in the 39th before Alex Iwobi reduced the deficit in the opening two minutes of the second half.

Raheem Sterling was booked for simulation for hitting the ground all too easily as goalkeeper Francis Uzoho came off his line to claim the ball.

Nigeria will take on Czech Republic in their final warm up game on June 6.

Why Over 90,000 Nigerians Die Of Cancer Ever Year – Banky W Reveals

Featured Image

EME boss, Banky W who also doubles as a singer and actor has revealed the reason Nigeria records huge number of deaths as a result of dreadful cancer disease.

According to Banky W, God’s Grace and availability of sufficient funds saw him through his battle with Skin cancer disease. He said, many people die of the killer disease due to lack of sufficient funds to fight it.

In his words;

“Many people know about my own battles with cancer. I’m forever grateful to God that I am alive and well, and that I was able to fund the treatment I needed.

Unfortunately, over 90,000 Nigerians die every year due to cancer. This is simply because they can’t afford to fight it. Treatment is expensive and so many people die because they’re just unable to pay for surgery, pills, chemo etc.

That has to change, and the more of us that contribute, the better. It would be great if one person donated N100 million. But it would be just as great, and even more powerful, if one million people gave N100 each.”

The singer hereby call for change while urging well-meaning Nigerians to contribute towards saving the lives of cancer patients in the country.

Award-winning singer and songwriter, Waje graces the cover of the second quarter edition of Glazia Magazine.

In the special feature, Waje opens up to discuss life, body positivity, finding love, new music, and new direction. Waje’s magazine cover comes a few days after the release of her free democracy day single titled “Need Each Other”.

Below are selected excerpts from the interview.

Omawumi O: This edition of the magazine is inspired by Mother Nature, what does nature mean to you as a person?

Waje: Nature to me is life because the creation can’t even be described without nature… The Garden of Eden…you know what I mean? There is so much that the greenery and plants give to us that keep our survival and there are so many things that keep us going and inspire who we are just by being surrounded by nature. Nature is literarily our existence. Nature is our existence that’s how I will put it.

Omawumi O:  I like that nature is our existence that’s a nice quotable quote. Does nature inspire you in your music?

Waje: You know there was a time in my life where I sort of got a writer’s block. I couldn’t really do much and a friend of mine told me to try writing when I have long trips on the plane and strangely enough, it was great. It was a daytime flight, I was looking outside, the light was coming in through my windows, and I was seeing the clouds and their different shapes. You know when you look at the clouds, you suddenly start forming images and it’s so funny, there was one that looked like three people. There, I got the song I wanted to write which is in my up and coming EP. So yeah, it does inspire me.

The Magazine will be available from Monday, June 4th, 2018 at  https://glaziang.com/store/

I Discovered Olamide When He Was 14 Years Old – ID Cabasa

Featured Image

Legendary music producer, Olumide Ogunade, better known as ID Cabasa, has disclosed how he met and discovered the talent of popular rapper & singer, Olamide, when he was between the age of 13-14.

“Olamide came with a friend to record in my studio; a friend was featuring him. I fell in love with the young boy of 13 or 14 as he delivered his rap line. I could hear a depth that you won’t get from most of his age mates.”

“I was so impressed that I told him that he’s free to come to my studio at any time. He will come to the studio, then I will make beat while is writing his lyrics. From there, the interest to have him as part of Coded Tunes developed and the rest is history.”

“By the time Coded Tunes transited to a proper recording label, Olamide was the first person signed alongside Seriki and Kayefi,” he said during a chat with Olaitan Ganiu of The Nation Newspaper.

ID Cabasa also spoke about promoting aboriginal hip hop acts.

“It was something we started subconsciously but we are very proud of it today. As a musician and producer, I love to be original in all I do. I like to sound not local but indigenous because the way to get to people’s heart is majorly from their culture. There is a Yoruba language that says, “Ile latin ke so r’ode”, meaning charity begins at home. Obviously, the law of attraction worked for us, I met 2phat and Spaco who are infusing Yoruba to their hip hop music and that is what I also wanted to do. It was 2phat that later introduced me to, Lord of Ajasa who raps strictly in Yoruba.”

“Our staying originality then also attracts 9ice, Seriki and even Reminisce that you see today rapping in Yoruba. He was actually rapping then in pure English and he is very fluent. The same things apply to Olamide; he rapped in English, but when you move with people you will get influence by them.”

On the high rate of hard drugs consumption among youths, he said:

“For every human being there’s a hunger for one to be high. I mean the hunger of seeking for more and people like to isolate themselves. They are looking to get to seventh heaven but unfortunately, it is a means to a particular end. If they understand the end before the beginning, they will know that you don’t need drugs to get to that end. When you smoke Marijuana to get inspiration like they say, it will only get you isolated. What inspires is right inside you. If you don’t give your mind capacity, you’ll get to that place of highness and nothing will come out. These guys don’t know they are destroying their destiny. But can you be so high and be higher than the Almighty God? It is impossible. For someone like me, if I want to get high, I’ll just close my tinted windows and put on loud music till I get high, that is the way I meditate. I don’t need to engage in drugs to get high.”

“I like the fact that the government has stood up to eradicate it but I don’t think they can eradicate it by just banning the importation of codeine, because codeine is a medicine just like Indian hemps. Depression is actually pushing people to do drugs. If the government can have plans for the youth who engage in drugs the level of consumption will automatically reduce.”

Mike Godson: Nollywood Actor Reveals Why Juliet Ibrahim Rejected His Marriage Proposal

Featured Image

Popular Nollywood actor, Mike Godson, has broken the silence on why fellow colleague in the movie industry, Juliet Ibrahim, did not accept his marriage proposal.

The actor, who brought the revelation to light barely a day ago via his official Instagram page – as he shared a picture of the beautiful Ghanaian actress – said he once asked her hand in marriage but she turned him down, because she sees him as a very short man.

Why Juliet Ibrahim Rejected My Marriage Proposal – Mike Godson“Can you imagine? I told this fine girl to marry me and she said I’m too short,” he wrote as he posted a captivating picture of her.

Still not satisfied, he posted another picture, some hours later with the caption “Please who Is the short person in this picture now? 🙄

Nollywood Actor Reveals Why Juliet Ibrahim Rejected His Marriage ProposalWhile she is currently in a relationship with Iceberg Slim, the popular actress had reacted to the rumours that swirled on the internet towards the end of last year that the duo will “take love to the altar.”

The internet was then awash with speculations that she had wedded her boyfriend at the Ikoyi registry in Lagos state.

The speculation comes after the celebrity studded traditional wedding of Banky W and Adesua Etomi which took place on Sunday in Lagos.

Apparently stunned by the speculations, she however took to her Instagram page to debunk the news.

Jiganbabaoja: Originator Of “Sho Mo Age Mi” Reveals How He Came About The Viral Slang

Featured Image

Kazeem Abimbola, better known as Jiganbabaoja, a talented actor cum singer and comedian, has revealed how he came about the viral slang “sho mo age mi”-  which means “do you known my age?” in English.

DOWLOAD MUSIC: Jiganbabaoja – Sho Mo Age

Speaking during a chat with The Punch, Abimbola said God had destined him to become popular with the ‘Sho mo age mi’ slang, adding that he had done several skits before the famous slang.

“I have actually done several skits but it’s just that God had mandated that I would become popular with this ‘Sho mo age mi’ slang. I was on a movie location with some of my friends when we started talking about our actresses that were celebrating their 40th birthday; we said that some of them were either not up to 40 years or they were above the age. That was how we started arguing and I cited myself as an example, asking them if they knew if I was up to 40 years old. That’s how I started asking them if they knew my age in Yoruba. From there, something urged me to do a skit about it and that’s how it went viral.”

“I did not know it would garner such attention online. It never occurred to me. Of all my skits, it had the highest amount of views and that was when I knew that it was going to be a viral video. I also have to thank Tunde Ednut because each time I make a skit, he always reposts it and that gives it more mileage online.”

On meeting with Davido, he said:

“I was wowed when it happened. I was home one day posting some of my skits on the same trending topic when I received a direct message from him. I was so happy and while I was still basking in the euphoria, I received a call from my manager, Danku, who told me to hold on for Davido. In his distinct voice, I heard him say, “Hello, Sho mo age mi, sho mo age mi ni,” then he laughed and invited me to meet him at Lekki. I went to meet him at Lekki and he told me he appreciated my work. He was travelling to America on that day but he still made out time to receive me.”

Ramos Receives Death Threats Over Salah Challenge

Featured Image

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has reportedly been forced to change his phone number after the numerous threats he received over his challenge on Mohamed Salah in last Saturday’s Champions League final in Kiev.

The striker had lasted just half an hour of Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in Kiev after being forced off with a suspected dislocated shoulder sustained during a tussle with Sergio Ramos.

Islamic Preacher Claims Salah’s Injury Is God’s Punishment For Breaking Ramadan Fast

The Liverpool star’s World Cup campaign is now in jeopardy, although Egypt officials expect him to recover just in time for the opening game against Uruguay on June 15.

Ramos has been on the end of a significant social media backlash since the incident, with many believing that he injured Salah intentionally.

One petition to get him retrospectively banned for the challenge has now passed half a million signatures.

The reported abuse hurled on Ramos has gone beyond social media – after it was claimed that a group of fans found his phone number.

In the meantime, Egypt’s national team have claimed that Salah is on course to be fit in time for the World Cup.

“The delegation of the national team was briefed on the recovery programme for the player, who is walking well.

“He aims to join the squad in the World Cup and this great player is determined to catch up with his team-mates.

“For his part, Mohamed Abou El-Ela said that the period of absence of Salah due to injury will not exceed three weeks,” a post on its Facebook page reads.

Jolly Nyame: Story Of A Reverend Turned Governor Turned Prisoner

Jolly Nyame: Story Of A Reverend Turned Governor Turned Prisoner – Abdulkareem Haruna

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

“…I must say that I am morally outraged by the facts of this case; the people of Taraba State had elected the defendant, a clergyman, on three different occasions; their expectations must have been very high.

“How would he begin to explain to the people of Taraba State his actions? How would he explain such a colossal loss to the people?…”

This piece was written by Abdulkareem Haruna and was first published on Premium Times. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

The above quote was an extract from the concluding statements in the ruling of an Abuja Federal High court judge, Adebukola Banjoko, on the suit filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against former governor of Taraba State, Jolly Nyame, a reverend.

Ex-Taraba Gov Jolly Nyame Sentenced To 14 Years Imprisonment For N1.64bn Fraud

The ex-governor was on Wednesday convicted of misappropriating N1.64 billion from the state’s treasury through shoddy stationery contracts which he awarded at the tail of his eight years administration that ended in 2007.

It was one of the longest trials that eventually (started in 2007). The conviction earned the former governor the ill-repute of being the second governor to be jailed in Nigeria by a court for stealing public funds while in office; after James Ngilari, former governor of Adamawa state who was in March 2017  jailed five years for corruption. Mr Ngilari’s conviction was later upturned by the appeal court.

The Rise and Fall of Reverend Jolly Tavoro Nyame

Once upon a time in a remote village of Zing in the Northeastern part of Nigeria, a child was born five years before the country got its freedom from British colonialists.

This child was considered a very special child because he came forth on the day the world was celebrating Christmas – the birthday of Jesus Christ.

His parents, of deep christian background were so overjoyed that they named him Jolly and wished that he grew to be a humble servant in the vineyard of thy Lord.

This child followed the path of his parents’ wish and grew up to take a vocation in the priesthood.

He continued to excel in all his ecclesiastic endeavours till he became an ordained Reverend gentleman of the United Methodists Church of Nigeria (UMCN).

Despite his stint in the Vineyard of God, this special child would later be attracted by the trappings of politics – a trajectory that would soon make him to fall short of the glory of God.

He joined politics at a time the nation was attempting to return to democratic rule in 1991 and would later become the first clergyman to become a governor in Nigeria.

He was also the first governor of the then newly created Taraba state.

Though his tenure, that started in January 1992  was short-lived by a military insurrection in November 1993, the people of Taraba who were still thrilled by the idea of having a “man of God” as their governor voted for him again when Nigeria decided to finally return to democratic rule in 1999.

Mr Nyame ruled Taraba for eight uninterrupted years between 1999 and 2007 after winning re-election in 2003.

Unfortunately, during his time, the anointed man-of-God did not did not give a good account of himself; as his tenure was marred with all kinds of unwholesome practices that fell short of the character of a good leader.

Mr Nyame left his state and his dear people even poorer than they were, many say.

He did not leave, however, until he stuffed his pockets and his bank accounts with monies stolen from the treasury of Taraba State government via criminally manipulated contract awards that were never executed

On Wednesday, May 30, about 12 years after he left office, a Federal High Court in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, found him guilty of massive corruption. He was sentenced to 14 years behind bars.

Nyame’s Foray Into  Politics

Those who know him very well in Taraba State said the convicted former governor was a pastor at the United Methodist Church of Nigeria in Kaltungo division of the defunct Gongola state (now in Gombe).

PREMIUM TIMES learnt that during the Third Republic of the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP) and National Republican Convention (NRC) era, Mr Nyame, as pastor, was the coordinator for Atiku Abubakar who later became the Vice President of Nigeria.

He coordinated for Mr Abubakar in the zone that later fell into Taraba State when new states were created.

The zone under the coordination of Mr Nyame was one of the strongholds of the former vice president, who was then a presidential aspirant. And in that respect, Mr Nyame became the point man for Mr Abubakar in the new Taraba State.

Mr Abubakar, sources said, later supported Mr Nyame with resources to contest the governorship slot of the new state.

Before that, Mr Nyame contested for the chairmanship of Jalingo local government under then Gongola State but was defeated.

When he was supported by Mr Abubakar  in 1991, Mr Nyame easily won the election.

Though a Christian clergyman, Mr Nyame enjoyed the overwhelming support of the majority of the people, including Muslims.

How Nyame Fell Out With Atiku Abubakar

Mr Abubakar also supported Mr Nyame in 1999, but the relation soured thereafter.

During his second tenure, the convicted Taraba governor turned his back on his political benefactor.

The bone of contention was chiefly, but not limited to, the disagreement on who to succeed him as the governor of Taraba in 2007.

The former governor could not eventually hand over power to his then anointed candidate, Danladi Baidu, whom former president Olusegun Obasanjo refused to hand over the symbolic PDP flag to during the 2007 zonal campaign rally of the party in Bauchi State.

At that time, it was expected that one of the three runner-ups in the Taraba governorship primary of the PDP be considered flag bearer of the party in 2007.

But Mr Nyame denied all of them that chance to fill the vacuum created by the rejected candidate.

He, instead, picked his then Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Danbaba Suntai, now late, even though there were cries that the SSG did not participate in the primary.

Mr Nyame reportedly forced Mr Suntai on the party as the flagbearer.

Mr Suntai succeeded Mr Nyame on May 29, 2007 as the second democratically elected governor of Taraba State. But they soon fell apart.

After Mr Suntai became governor, Mr Nyame was confronted with criminal charges arising from a petition written by two persons: Umar Baba and Kelas Obadia titled ‘Taraba State in a Mess; the Commissioner of Finance goofed’.

That single petition was the nucleus of other charges that were fashioned against Mr Nyame which finally brought him down.

In June 2007, the EFCC contacted Mr Nyame asking him to defend the allegations that he collected N180 million of the N250 million he approved via a memo for the purchase of stationery.

And in a letter he authored on June 6, 2007 and addressed to the EFCC, the former governor admitted taking the money as his share of the unexecuted stationery contract, and that he was ready to refund same.

Parting Ways With Suntai

Mr Nyame who could not find a comfort zone in the then Governor Suntai-controlled Taraba PDP  had to defect to Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) to ‘fight’ his successor.

And as a way of checkmating his former boss, the late Mr Suntai allegedly decided to fight his predecessor by revisiting a probe of the controversial stationery contract through which Mr Nyame was believed to have diverted Taraba’s money to personal use.

In 2011, Mr Nyame defected to the then Action Congress of Nigeria to contest a senatorial seat in Taraba State. But Mr Abubakar decided to stage a proxy war by financially backing Jummai Alhassan (currently a minister in President Buhari’s cabinet) to deal Mr Nyame a great defeat.

In 2015, Mr Nyame staged a dramatic come back to the state’s ruling PDP with the hope of re-contesting the senatorial seat that Mrs Alhassan was leaving. Mrs Alhassan then contested for govenror of the state on the APC platform.  He lost out in the race.

No Tears for Fallen Nyame

A government official in  Taraba who spoke to PREMIUM TIMES via telephone from Jalingo but wished not to be quoted due to the sensitivity of matter, said “the general feeling in the state is that of no one really sympathetic with the former governor because he did not do well to us”.

“We just hope that this should be a lesson to other serving and former governors of the state to learn that no matter how long they try to cover the track of their misconduct, the law will still catch up with them.”

On Wednesaday, Jolly Tavoro Nyame, born December 25, 1955 in Zing Local Government Area of Taraba, an ordained priest of UMCN, three times elected governor of Taraba State, was convicted at age 63. The judge gave him no option of fine. He will spend the next 14 years behind bars for failing to distinguish himself as a servant of God while in office; unless his conviction is upturned by the appeal court.

Nigeria To Begin Overhaul Of Refineries In July

Featured Image

The Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, on Friday disclosed that the much-awaited overhaul of the country’s refineries would become a reality next month.

This is just as plans have been concluded to complete necessary arrangement with financial, Nigerian Guardian reports.

The minister also noted that President Muhammadu Buhari and the President of Niger Republic, Mahamadou Issoufu, would in the coming weeks sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the construction of a new refinery to be located in a border town between both countries and close to Katsina State.

He further stressed that there was no going back on government’s commitment to end environmental challenges in the oil-producing region, especially the need to bring an end to gas flaring in the next two years.

Speaking on Nigeria/Niger Relations in a flurry of tweets via his Twitter account @ibekachikwu, the minister said: “The refinery talks are at advanced stages. We expect the two Presidents to meet soon for the joint signing of the MoU.

“On local production capacity and local consumption we are in an era where public sector funds are no longer used for refinery Turn Around Maintenance (TAM).

“We are looking forward to completing the process by July 2018.”

He said government would put policies in place to fast-track private sector involvement in the downstream sector, as nameplate capacity utilisation of existing refineries would still not ensure 100 per cent consumption availability.

Nigeria’s World Cup jersey sells out as hundreds queue to buy in LondonNigeria is expected to debut the in-demand kit in their friendly against England on Saturday evening at Wembley as they continue to prepare for the World Cup.

It should come as no surprise that both the home and away strips are already sold out on the Nike website, as they claim there are no current plans for a restock. The shirt alone is priced by Nike at £64.95.

Nike have also released Nigeria inspired boots – the Naija Mercurial 360 – which hit the stores yesterday.

According to Daily Mail UK, more than a hundred people queued outside the Nike shop, spilling to the street corner.

Fans will have the chance to see the kit today as Nigeria face England in a friendly at Wembley.

The Nigerian team will also play the Czech Republic in a final pre-World Cup friendly on Wednesday, June 6, after which the Eagles will fly into Russia on June 11.

They will play Croatia in their first match on June 16, trade tackles with Iceland in Volgograd on June 22 and take on Argentina four days later in the last game of Group D.

Ghana Angry With Nigerian Ex-President Over Alleged Mockery Speech

Featured Image

The Ghanaian government is unhappy with the immediate past President of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan for linking its President, Nana Akuffo-Addo, with an alleged mockery of Nigeria.

It also dismissed as untrue claims by Jonathan last weekend in Ado Ekiti that Akuffo-Addo recently mocked the poor state of security in Nigeria and the weak status of the naira.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Ado Ekiti flyover, the former Nigerian ruler had said that things have deteriorated so much in the country that it has lost its respect in Africa.

However, in his reaction on Friday, Ghana’s High Commissioner in Nigeria, Mr. Rashid Bawa said Jonathan “took the words of President Akufo-Addo completely out of context.”

The Nation quoted Bawa as saying: “Indeed, in the speech delivered by President Akufo-Addo at the Oxford African Conference, one of the instances used by former President Goodluck Jonathan, these are the exact words of President Akufo-Addo:

‘For most of you in the audience today, it is probably before your time, but in the late 1970s up to the mid- 1980s, as a result of the discovery of considerable petroleum deposits, Nigeria was booming. It was the place to be. We Ghanaians, who were going through very difficult times then, would arrive at Heathrow Airport, and be herded into a cage to be subjected to the full third degree by Immigration , and we would look on as our Nigerian cousins would be waved through, with a ‘welcome sir’ and a ‘welcome madam’ .

‘The newspaper headlines in this country were full of Nigerians leaving or forgetting bundles of money in taxis and telephone booths. Nigerians were the preferred tenants for those who had apartments to let. You could stop by any Thomas Cook shop on any High Street in this country and buy or sell Naira, the Nigerian currency, and you could do the same in New York, and I suspect in many other Western country cities.

‘I do not need to spell out today’s reality to anyone in this audience. I cite this just to make the point that the “the outside world” is well able to tell that there are separate sovereign nations on the African continent. But, when the news is not good, then Africa is treated as one entity.’

He further took exception to Jonathan’s reference to Akufo-Addo’s purported disposition towards cattle-rearing.

Bawa continued: “The other alleged remark that ‘Ghana is not Nigeria where cattle can roam about anyhow’ has never been made by President Akufo-Addo; that is not his way of speaking.

“President Akufo-Addo , in many of the speeches he has made in Nigeria and elsewhere , since becoming President of Ghana , has described Nigeria as ‘a country I describe as my second home in the world’ , and will never use Nigeria to make negative examples, as the former President Goodluck Jonathan sought to portray.

“President Akufo-Addo enjoys a very good relationship with President Muhammadu Buhari , as he has with many other Nigerian leaders; Ghana and Nigeria are like siblings, and it would be most inappropriate, because of politics, for anyone, regardless of his or her status in society, to try to sow seeds of discord amongst the leadership and peoples of our two countries.”

If Madrid fail to bring Pochettino to the Bernabeu then they will look to Joachim Low, Jurgen Klopp or former playmaker Guti. Guti is in the frame having impressed while in charge of Madrid’s Juvenil team. (Marca/AS)

Zidane quit Madrid last week after president Perez held an unsuccessful two-hour meeting with him on the Wednesday before the Champions League final to try and make him stay. Zidane ruled this season a failure after elimination in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals to Leganes and finishing so far behind Barcelona in La Liga. Lothar Matthaus has told Bayern Munich to sign Paulo Dybala from Juventus and Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger, should Boateng leave the Allianz Arena. Legendary former Germany and Bayern midfielder Matthaus believes the expected €46m sale of Douglas Costa to Juventus can help finance a move for Dybala while Rudiger is the ideal replacement for wantaway Boateng. Matthaus believes Bayern are outside the best six teams in Europe with major additions needed to compete with the Premier League elite, PSG and Spain’s big two. (Sport Bild)

Borussia Dortmund have been told they will have to pay €28m to sign Abdou Diallo from Mainz. Atletico will pay between €23m-€25m for the 25-year-old with Diego Simeone keen to use him as both a right-midfielder and right back. (L’Equipe)

Oyegun Pulls Out Of APC Chairmanship Race | Says ‘I Don’t Want To Be A Problem’

Featured Image

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has announced his withdrawal from the race for the Party’s national chairmanship, saying that he does not want to be part of the problem that the ruling party would have to solve.

Oyegun made this known on Friday while speaking with journalists in Abuja.

His words: “I do not intend to be part of the problem for APC to solve. It is for this reason that I hereby declare that I will not be seeking reelection as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC.”

“However, I will continue to perform my functions as the national chairman of the party till my tenure officially ends on Monday the 25th June when a new set of party executives will be inaugurated.”

“With the 2019 general election looming in the horizon, some of us considered it to be in the best interest of the party to go into the elections as a united fighting force, rather than one that was potentially weakened by internal conflicts arising from competitive congresses and convention.”

“It was for this reason that we canvassed and obtained the NEC dusk of February 27, asking all executives of the party to continue in acting capacities fora mother period of 12 months.

“If this decision was sustained, we probably would have achieved our objective. But we would only have succeeded also in postponing the evil days as it were. In retrospect, I am inclined to agree with the viewpoint that even a young political party as ours need to be subjected to the crucible of these contestations, which in any case, is the hallmark of progressive politics.

“In the end, even as difficult as the situation may appear at the beginning, the experience we would draw from managing the contending interests, can only hope to make our party stronger and more resilient.”

Operatives of the Pokuase District Police in Ghana have arrested 30 suspected robbers, made up of five women and 25 Nigerians in three separate raids.

A report by Daily Graphic, a news portal in Ghana, said the 25 Nigerians were arrested in Amasaman for alleged violent crimes and robbery.

Those arrested were between the ages of 18 and 34, and the police found suspected narcotics, a suspected stolen car, as well as items believed to be used for their robbery operations.

It is understood that during the intelligence-led operations which took place at about 8:30 a.m. last Sunday, the police besieged suspected criminal hideouts within their jurisdiction and apprehended the suspicious persons.

The Amasaman Divisional Police Commander, Francis Yiribaare, said the arrests were part of measures by the police to address concerns over the re-emergence of violent crimes in the area.

”A team of intelligence-led operations searched hideouts of 19 Nigerians, all males, who took cover in the ceiling of a house and locked up the rooms, were arrested,” Mr Yiribaare said.

”In another search, six more male Nigerians were arrested.” he added.

The candidates were supposed to write Use of English, the other (Arabic language) was just a dummy,” Ani explained.
