OAU Fires Prof Richard Akindele Over Sex-For-Mark Scandal

Featured Image

The Governing Council of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife, has dismissed Prof. Richard Akindele, who was accused of demanding sex to upgrade the mark of a female postgraduate student, Monica Osagie.

OAU’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede, announced Akindele’s dismissal in a statement yesterday in Ile-Ife.

OAU Prof Demands ‘5 Rounds Of Sex’ To Pass Female Student (Listen To Audio) | Varsity Reacts

He said the council, after its findings, concluded that Professor Akindele had an inappropriate relationship with one of his students, Miss Osagie, a claim to which he admitted.

Osagie was a postgraduate student in the Department of Management and Accounting and was said to have completed her programme in 2018.

Council also discovered that the don had offered to change Osagie’s 33 per cent result to a pass mark, in consideration for sexual favours.

The vice-chancellor said the Senate, as well as the Governing Council, found the lecturer liable of all the allegations levelled against him and subsequently ordered his sacking.

Ogunbodede said, “Professor Akindele had an inappropriate relationship with his student, Miss Osagie. This was established through their conversation in an audio recording; his reply to the query; oral evidence and the printed WhatsApp conversation tendered before the committee.

“He had acted in a manner that is seen to have compromised his position as a teacher and examiner, in that his conversation with Miss Osagie was about examination scores and inducement of favour for the alteration of examination scores.

“He offered to change Miss Osagie’s purported 33 per cent result to a pass mark in consideration for sexual favours; this was established in the audio recording which he admitted.”

He stated that the prof’s claim that Miss Osagie knew she had passed with a score of 45 but was seeking to score an A, which led to him being sexually harassed by Miss Osagie was not supported by any evidence.

He added, “Professor Akindele’s action in requesting for sexual favours from Miss Osagie to change her examination scores was scandalous behaviour that has brought ridicule to the name of the university and has tarnished the reputation of the university as it portrays the university as an institution where its teachers and examiners trade marks for sexual favours.

“From the evidence, Miss Osagie had no idea that she scored 45, a pass mark as later claimed by Professor Akindele, although she later found out she did not fail the course.

“Professor Akindele operated in a position of power and authority over Miss Osagie and as such sexually harassed her. Professor Akindele was liable for all the allegations of misconduct levelled against him.”

He concluded, “Accordingly, the Senate recommends that Professor Richard Akindele, having been found liable on all allegations against him, should be dismissed from the services of the university.

“The council, at its meeting of today, Wednesday, 20th of June, 2018, having considered the recommendation of the Senate, as well as the report of the Joint Committee of Council and Senate, decided that Professor Richard I. Akindele should be dismissed from the services of the university for gross misconduct.”

Asked if the university would press for the prosecution of Akindele, the vice-chancellor said the university had meted out the maximum penalty to the lecturer and as such was not considering prosecution because it was not within its power to prosecute.

Manchester City board member Alberto Galassi has revealed that the club are hopeful of signing Napoli midfielder Jorginho, but there is still work to be done before a deal can be completed

Manchester United have made the signing of Jorginho their top priority this summer, as boss Pep Guardiola attempts to bolster his options in the middle of the park.

A report in The Telegraph this week suggested that a £46.5m fee has been agreed and Jorginho is on the brink of arriving at the Etihad Stadium, though according to Galassi negotiations are still ongoing.

“The club is interested, the player is also interested and Napoli is not opposed to the move,” he told Sky Sports Italia. “Having said that, there are still some things to sort out and it’s not done yet. It’s not an easy negotiation.”

Juventus Comfim The Signing Of Emre Can From Liverpool

Featured Image

Juventus have confirmed the free signing of Emre Can on a four-year contract.

Emre Can will join the Bianconeri on a free transfer when his contract at Liverpool expires at the end of the month.

Douglas Costa’s loan move from Bayern Munich has also been made permanent, while Mattia Caldara and Lorenzo Spinazzola will join Massimiliano Allegri’s squad in preseason training next month after returning from loan spells with Atalanta.

Can’s arrival could pave the way for West Ham United target Stefano Sturaro to leave, while Miralem Pjanic’s future at the club is also now in doubt.

Can joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in 2014 and made 167 appearances for the club, the last of which came in the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid last month.

National Assembly And Its Passion For Unromantic Insertions

National Assembly And Its Passion For Unromantic Insertions – Fredrick Nwabufo

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

Insertion! This word entered my offender’s register in 2016. At the time, Abdulmumin Jibrin, former chairman, house committee on appropriations, was a caterwauler; he cried out, alleging that the leadership of the house of representatives was involved in impassioned “insertions”.

This piece was written by ‘Fredrick Nwabufo. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

Jibrin claimed that four principal officers of the house, including Yakubu Dogara, speaker of the lower legislative chamber, were inserting personal projects into the 2016 budget. He said the insertions were brazen, illegal and wanton.

He wailed so loudly at the time, giving inveterate wailers a run for their money.

I remember Jibrin went on Channels TV in the heat of the controversy to establish his claim. And I think I saw him use his index finger to describe the “insertions”.

He sent a petition to the EFCC and the DSS asking them to investigate his claim and those he tagged the “corrupt quartet”.

But he was a lone prosecutor. He stood alone like a wraith seeking justice. He was suspended. Disgraced. And politically marooned. He spent months stitching up his shredded raiment.

In the thick of all these, President Muhammadu Buhari kept quiet. In fact, it was reported that he dismissed the allegations of illegal insertions. He took no action.

In 2018, Buhari has suddenly realised the national assembly’s knack for “unromantic insertions”. By speaking up now, the president has only given his allegation and motive a political slant.

However, it is unsettling that the national assembly will open the budget and insert choice projects into it. It is totally abhorrent.

Permit my bias, but why did the national assembly cut the provision for the construction of a terminal building at Enugu airport from N2b billion to N500 million? Why did the national assembly increase its own budget from N125 billion to N139.5 billion? This is injudicious.

As a matter of fact, these insertions are becoming too abrasive. And it appears the national assembly is deviating from its statutory role.

I will not be on the band of the demonizers of the national assembly, but the legislature must always be above board. It is an institution of check, and as such, it must be prim and proper. With actions like this, the accusations of its traducers are given a verisimilitude of truth.

These insertions are unromantic!

(Intro: Skepta)

Greez

True, ay

(Skepta raps on Verse 1)

I’m tryna get paid, take money, cash cheques

You see the set, that’s Lash, that’s Dex

Young C, Young Shorty, Milkavelli

White bricks, True Religion, on the telly, it’s me

Wiz got the house full of freaks

That’s why I haven’t been around for a week

I’m getting pounds in my sleep

I’m at the top of the mountain, it’s peak

Bring it back before the villain

I had a life, real talk, True Religion

It’s in the blood, in the genes, in the stitching

Walked in, no weapon, made a killing

Tongue kissing pretty women

New iPhone ’cause I’m done with all the bitching

Tryna be in my position

Keep my shades on ’cause they tryna see the vision

(Wizkid takes the Chorus)

She tell me, “Badman, see, I need your love, see, I need your love”

Me need you close to me, me, ’til I see me, oh, stay on the road

Bad energy stay far away, make you stay far away

Just give me love for the night, give me love for the night, gyal, waste no time

(Skepta goes hard on Verse 2)

Breakfast in bed on a plane

I could never complain

I was walking with the limp, had the cane

Dex said greatness and nothing was the same

Now we’re set for life

I saw the turn up button and I pressed it twice

You heard I’m in the club, then my best advice

Is put your shoes on and come and get your wife

‘Cause we’ve been having sex just for exercise

Every night, man are doing sexercise

She looks into my eyes, now she’s mesmerised

(Wizkid repeats the Chorus)

She tell me, “Badman, see, I need your love, see, I need your love”

Me need you close to me, me, ’til I see me, oh, stay on the road

Bad energy stay far away, make you stay far away

Just give me love for the night, give me love for the night, gyal, waste no time

(Skepta drops more bars on Verse 3)

Ay, they better get used to the flex

African man, you see the jewels on my neck

Black James Bond, that’s the new silhouette

You see me in the street and I was moving correct

Been running around, tryna do the home run

Left that girl, she was no fun

I tie one, smoke one

Big chief Skeppy and I answer to no one

Counting my blessings, I’m feeling special

Bird’s eye view, SK level

Give them the Shaku when I dance with the devil

Young Fela Kuti, the return of the rebel

I told her I need some space

Real busy body, never stay in one place

And she knows I’ve got more Tricks under my sleeve

That’s why she never wants me to leave

(Wizkid wraps it up)

She tell me, “Badman, see, I need your love, see, I need your love”

Me need you close to me, me, ’til I see me, oh, stay on the road

Bad energy stay far away, make you stay far away

Kwara Tertiary Institutions Shut Down As Workers Begin Indefinite Strike

Featured Image

Workers of the three Colleges of Education in Kwara state have embarked on an indefinite industrial action, over the state government failure to meet their five-point demands.

The workers, under the aegis of Committee of Unions of Tertiary Institutions (CUTI) of Colleges of Education in Kwara, had issued three days warning a week ago for the government to act. NAN reports that academic activities have been paralysed in the institutions located in Ilorin, Oro and Lafiagi.

Abdulhammed Yusuf, Secretary, Senior Staff Union of Colleges of Education in the state, told NAN on Wednesday that the union had presented a five-point demand which the government allegedly failed to honour.

He said the demands include the release of funds for accreditation of courses, payment of backlog of salaries, 30 percent salary increment, promotion and payment of promotion benefits that accrued since 2013.

Yusuf said: “In the last three years or so, there is hardly any year that we have not gone on strike, in fact, it seems the government is not ready to do anything except we go on strike.

“Last month, it was with some efforts before the government paid us May 2017 salary, as it is, the government still owes us the salary of June and July 2017 here in college of education, Ilorin.’’

The union leader also said the government was paying lip service to the issue of accreditation of courses run by the schools.

“We have many demands on the ground for the government; Apart from salary, there is an issue of accreditation.

“Most of the courses in the colleges have not been accredited, it means the students are just coming in running programmes that are not accredited.

“The implication is that they will carry worthless certificates around if eventually, they finish here without accreditation.

“In order to prevent this, we make it one of our cardinal points that government must address, they must accredit all these courses so that the students will not suffer.

“Invariably, if the courses are not accredited, after sometimes, the news will soon spread that courses being run by tertiary institutions in Kwara are not accredited, which means people will start withdrawing their children from the colleges,’’ he said.

On the demand for salary increment, Yusuf explained that Kwara was the only state still paying 70 percent of the approved salary scale for staff of the colleges.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has boosted the foreign exchange market with $210 million to meet customers’ requests in various segments, says an official.

Isaac Okorafor, Acting Director, Corporate Communications, said this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to him, the bank, in its desire to meet customers’ needs, offered $100 million to authorised dealers in the wholesale segment of the market, while the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) segment got $55 million.

Mr Okorafor also said customers needing foreign exchange for ‘invisibles’ such as tuition fees, medical payments and Basic Travel Allowance (BTA), among others, were also allocated $55 million.

He recalled that the CBN on Thursday, intervened with $343.06 million to cater for requests in the retail segment of the foreign exchange market.

He added that the naira continued its stability in the foreign exchange market, exchanging at an average of N360 per dollar in the Bureau De Change (BDC), segment of the market Wednesday.

The Naira to US dollar is currently pegged at an official exchange rate of $1 to N305.35.

However, it is understood that on the black market – where most Nigerians likely take care of their forex needs – the rates are fluctuating between N358 to $1 for those buying and N360 to $1 for those selling.

For the British Pound, the rates, though officially fixed at N401.93, exchanges for N489 to £1 for those buying and N492 to £1 for those selling.

Also, the Euro exchanges at N420 to €1 for those buying, and N425 to 1€ for those selling, though it has an official rate of N358.05.
