#WorldCupWith360nobs: Musa’s Goals Help Nigeria Humble Iceland In Volgograd

Featured Image

The Super Eagles of Nigeria reinvigorated its World Cup campaign with a 2-0 victory over Iceland in Volgograd on Friday, June 22, 2018.

It was certainly two moments of brilliance for Ahmed Musa who stood up when it mattered most and scored both goals.

The result also gave boast to Argentina who if Iceland had Iceland would have been in a terrible spot to advance.

While the Super Eagles can round up qualifications for the second round with a win in it’s last fixture, a win over Nigeria could well be enough for Argentina.

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has officially announced he plans to pick the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2019 elections after meeting with the national leadership of the party.

Mr P Opens Up On Why He Would Consider A P-Square Reunion

Featured Image

Peter Okoye also known as Mr P of the defunct Psquare group, has said he might agree to re-unite with his Twin brother, Rudeboy under certain condition.

In a recent interview with Hot 93.3Fm, the singer stated that the he might consider a re-union with his brother in future. The two brothers who used to be together as Psquare disbanded last year in a rather unhealthy manner.

On the possibility of reuniting with his brother, Mr. P said:

“Even if that (a reunion) will happen, let it happen with respect, it is not just about the music, there was family before the music and I stand for the Okoyes. I shouldn’t be P-Square and be unhappy, if it must happen, it must be with respect”.

Speaking on his decision to fly a solo career. He said;

“When P-Square broke up, People were like, are you sure you can do this all alone, can he make it?

No, I am not making it, I have done it, I have been killing it, all sold out, just this year alone, I have done like 60 ‘something’ concerts, all sold out, I am blessed.

Most people actually doubted me, but I know myself, I know what I bring to the table, I am just happy doing what I am doing, there are some things I wasn’t entitled to do as a member of the group, but now I am a boss of myself.“

He also added that, “you have heard, Look In My Eyes, you have heard, My Way and Cool It Down. All these are my mini music video singles, Ebeano is my first official single as Mr P.“

In reaction to the illegal song sampling allegation leveled against him by up and coming singer, Henry Knight, he said:

“when this kind of thing happens, some people just jump into conclusion. I think people need to be educated on this issue… there is a different thing, if it is the beat, or if it is a statement in the song, there is only so much you can use of it.“

The Ebeano crooner also reacted to comments by critics who described him as an upcoming artiste after launching a solo career.

“I made up my mind I wanted to start afresh, I left a P-Square who had over a million YouTube subscribers to start my own… I am not afraid to start afresh… I have moved on, I love it.“

On if he has plans to work with younger talents, he said:

“I am an open person, as long as the song is good, why not? I am actually considering doing that.”

#WorldCupWith360nobs: Super Eagles ‘Won’t Lose’ Against Iceland – Rohr

Featured Image

With barely a few hours to the crucial FIFA World Cup Group D game against Iceland, the Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has said that Nigeria have the tactics to beat the Nordic island country in the Volgograd Arena.

A second defeat following a 2-0 loss to Croatia in Group D will put Nigeria out of the running for a last-16 place and possibly lead to the German coach losing his job.

ALSO READ: (Nigeria Vs Iceland:) Match Preview, Team News, Prediction, Statistics, Head To Head

But the Super Eagles head coach said:

“For me it’s not a question to lose this game. I think we won’t lose so I don’t ask this question myself. You can ask after the game but I can tell you we will not lose.”

Marca quoted Rohr as adding that Nigeria “will have the tactics to win the match.”

He said his team were well organized against Croatia but were unfortunate to lose after conceding “two stupid goals” in an own goal and penalty.

Rohr also defended his decision to deploy Captain John Mikel Obi as an attacking rather than a defensive midfielder in the defeat, saying no one had complained during the team’s successful qualifying campaign.

His words: “Since I have been in Nigeria for two years now we play Mikel in this role as an offensive midfielder. It was going very well throughout our games and the team was built around him.

“I know he played in a defensive midfield role and I know in China he plays offensive and defensive. When we don’t have the ball everybody is defensive and when we have the ball everyone is offensive. With Etebo and Ndidi, we had two good defensive midfielders who did very well against Croatia despite playing for the first time together.”

“Mikel tried his best but it is not easy when you have to play against  (Luka) Modric  and (Ivan) Rakitic. When you see the clubs these players play and compare it to where our players play, there is a little difference.”

“We expect to win,” Iceland coach Heimir Hallgrimsson said Thursday of his expectations for the Group D game.

Victory would be the first for Iceland at their debut World Cup after opening with a 1-1 draw against Argentina at the Spartak Stadium in Moscow on Saturday, and could put a foot through the door to the last 16.

UK Denies Ghanaian Visa To Save Sister’s Life

Featured Image

A Ghanaian woman based in the United Kingdom with a rare blood cancer is being denied a life-saving transplant from her brother who is in Ghana because he doesn’t earn enough, says a charity group.

The 33-year-old Shirley Kordie has hypoplastic MDS and will leave her 4-year-old son, Blessing, without a mother if she is not treated.

It was learnt that her brother Joseph, who resides in Ghana, is a “perfect” stem cell match but his visa application was denied by the Home Office in UK due to his “financial circumstances”.

At the moment, she is entirely reliant on blood transfusions to reduce her life-threatening anaemia and her reduced white blood cells put her at high risk of infection.

“My life is in danger – I need to get my life back for my son. I have my little boy, and I want to live for him,” the BBC reported Ms Kordie as saying.

The Home Office also said it was “urgently reviewing” the case.

In a previous letter to Shirley, the Home Office said:

“While I am aware of the importance of family contact and the compassionate nature of your application, I must, however, also consider your personal and financial circumstances in Ghana when addressing your application.”

But in a statement released on Thursday, a spokesman said:

“We are urgently reviewing the decision and will give very careful consideration to the compassionate circumstances.”

In the wake of the development, Blood cancer charities Anthony Nolan and the ACLT (African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust) have launched a campaign to support Ms Kordie, who has been receiving treatment at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The Anthony Nolan Trust said the reason Joseph has been refused a visa is because “he doesn’t earn enough money”.

It was gathered that a petition urging the government to reverse its decision has amassed about 10,000 signatures in 36 hours.

Joseph, a nurse himself, is unable to make the donation in Ghana, so coming to the UK is his only option, said the Anthony Nolan Trust.

The spokeswoman Amelia Chong said there were no alternative options for a donor on the international stem cell register.

“Her brother is a perfect, 10 out of 10 match for her,” she said.

“We have reviewed all those on the donor list and he is not only the perfect match, he is the only match.” “Put simply, Shirley will die without this stem cell transplant.”

Henny Braund, Chief Executive of Anthony Nolan says:

“Shirley’s best chance of recovery so she can care for her young son, Blessing, is a stem cell transplant and I am deeply concerned her brother Joseph, who is a perfect match, has been denied a visa. The Home Office has made concessions for similar cases in the past and I urge the Minister to reconsider.

“Each passing day leaves Shirley increasingly anxious, and at increased risk of infection. His sister is in need and Joseph is ready – this situation needs to be urgently resolved so Shirley can have the treatment she so desperately needs.”

Doctor Orders Nurse To Kneel Down, Flogs Her In Lekki, Lagos

Featured Image

A 35-year-old doctor has been accused of brutalising one of his nurses; even as he was said to have ordered her to kneel down, slapped and further flogged her with a belt at the Awoyaya Hospital and Maternity Centre, Ibeju Lekki in Lagos State.

It was gathered that trouble started between Dr Emmanuel Okolo and the nurse Dorcas Adeyera in the early hours of Monday following the treatment of a patient who was rushed into the medical facility.

The Punch reports that Okolo had frowned on the admission of the accident victim without his consent, blaming Adeyera for the action.

As a result of this, the medical doctor allegedly summoned the 23-year-old into his office and ordered her to kneel down but when the victim refused, he was alleged to have dealt her several slaps and also flogged her with a belt.

In a report she presented to the medical director of the hospital, Adeyera said she was humiliated by Okolo.

The report read in part, “Around 2am, there was an emergency outside the hospital. I stepped out to have a clear look at the patient, who was said to have been involved in an accident and already fractured a bone in his left leg.

“The patient was conscious and alert; no obvious respiratory distress, but seemed to be in severe pain. I went back inside the hospital to notify the doctor on call, Dr Okolo Emmanuel, and immediately went back to move the patient inside the hospital.

“On getting there, I noticed that my colleague, who is a registered nurse and midwife, had already offered the patient a stretcher and the man’s relatives were trying to get the patient on it. Then, I noticed that the patient and his relatives were Hausas, and the people that brought him in a car were just helpers. Immediately they dropped the patient on the stretcher, they zoomed off.

“Back inside the hospital, Dr Okolo, who had been to the emergency room, saw the patient being carried towards him. He suddenly got angry and asked why the nurse didn’t allow him to see the patient first before bringing him into the hospital. He pointed at me, blaming me for it and said I should get out of his sight, which I did immediately; only for him to get angrier and ordered the patient to be taken out of the hospital as he was not ready to attend to him.”

The Ife, Osun State indigene, said the doctor instructed her to ensure the order was carried out.

Adeyera said she left for the pharmacy after asking the patient to leave the premises.

“I left for the pharmacy with the hope that the patient’s relatives will source a means of leaving, only for the doctor to come in a few minutes later and dragged me into his office.

“I was shocked and tried to remove my hands from his hold; but he was too fierce.

“In his office, he told me to get down on my knees (kneel down) to which I declined as it was against the ethics of my profession to do that in uniform. He gave me the first hard slap and repeated his order; I refused and called my colleague for help.

“I tried to get out of his office, but he dragged me back and reached for his belt and started flogging me until the security men and my colleague came and tried to hold him. He said I was rude and he was not my age-mate.

“I tried explaining to the security men what had happened, but he did not allow me to speak out. He reached for the sphygmomanometer and was about using it to hit my head when the security men took it from his hand and another round of slaps on my cheeks followed. This time around, I fell on the floor and he started punching me,” she added.

The nurse, while speaking with newsmen on Thursday, said she reported the case to the police at the Elemoro division, adding that she was treated at the Epe General Hospital.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, CSP Chike Oti, said the police were looking for the suspect.

He said, “The case was reported and we are investigating. Efforts are on to arrest and interrogate the doctor.”

Nigeria vs Iceland
World Cup Gp D 4:00pm Friday 22nd June Volgograd Arena

Iceland will be hoping to build on their impressive World Cup opening round game Vs Argentina when they take on Nigeria in Volgograd.

Having stifled Lionel Messi and Argentina, Heimir Hallgrimsson’s side can put themselves in a good position to qualify from Group D if they compound Nigeria’s misery.

Nigeria know anything less than beating Iceland will leave them with a very hard task to avoid elimination after defeat against Croatia on Saturday

If Nigeria lose, they would become the third African side after Morocco and Egypt to be dumped out after just two group matches.

Head coach Gernot Rohr hit back at a reporter when asked if a loss might see his job on the line.

“We will not lose this game so I do not answer this question. You can ask this question again after the game, but I will tell you we will not lose,” he said.

Team News

Iceland are expected to be without Johann Berg Gudmundsson, who picked up a muscle injury against Argentina and is unlikely to recover in time for this match.

Alfred Finnbogason is his side’s form player, scoring in each of his last three international appearances, although Iceland have failed to win any of those games.

As for Nigeria Ogenyi Onazi will be hoping for a recall after being dropped for the opener.

With goals required for Nigeria to get the much required victory, Ahmed Musa could also be handed a start, although to do so he would likely have to usurp either Victor Moses, Alex Iwobi or Odion Ighalo in the starting lineup.

Possible starting lineup:

Nigeria – Uzoho; Shehu, Troost-Ekong, Balogun, Idowu; Ndidi, Mikel, Onazi; Moses, Ighalo, Iwobi

Iceland – Halldorsson; Saevarsson, Arnason, R Sigurdsson, Magnusson; Hallfredsson, Gunnarsson; G Sigurdsson, Bjarnason, Gislason; Finnbogason

#WorldCupWith360nobs: Referee Mark Geiger Slammed For Requesting Cristiano Ronaldo’s Jersey Before Halftime

Featured Image

World Cup referee Mark Geiger has been accused of asking Cristiano Ronaldo for his shirt before the end of half time in Portugal’s win against Morocco.

Cristiano Ronaldo maintained his impressive World Cup form by scoring the only goal of the game early on at the Luzhniki Stadium on Wednesday.

Geiger has been criticised by Nordin Amrabat for allegedly requesting Ronaldo’s top midway through the match, which the Morocco midfielder believes shows a lack of professionalism.

“I do not know what he is used to, but he was very impressed by Cristiano Ronaldo, and I hear from Pepe that he asked in the first half if he should have his shirt,” Amrabat is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News. “What are we talking about? At the World Cup? It’s not a circus here.”

Kevin De Bruyne has responded to criticism that he cannot perform for Belgium to the same level as he does for his club side, Manchester City.

Despite winning 3-0 in their opening World Cup game against Panama, Kevin De Bruyne failed to impress some Belgian fans

However, De Bruyne believes that taking on a more significant role for the Red Devils will help him to improve on the international stage.

‘I didn’t [play to my potential for Belgium] before because I was young and I didn’t have the profile I have now,’ De Bruyne told RTBF television.

“From now on, I have to shoulder my responsibility,” the midfielder admitted, describing his new role as the “boss” of Roberto Martinez’s attacking line.

#WorldCupWith360nobs: Joe Hart Promises To Make Changes After Missing Out On England’s World Cup Squad

Featured Image

Joe Hart has decided to stop “moping around” after missing out on England’s World Cup squad and get back to the top of his game.

Joe Hart was the most notable casualty of Gareth Southgate’s team selection as Jordan Pickford, Jack Butland and Nick Pope were picked instead.

Hart’s failure to make the England squad came after disappointing loan spells at Torino and West Ham United, which in turn followed the loss of his first-team place at Manchester City.

The 31-year-old took to his Instagram account on Thursday to tell his followers that he has since recovered from the snub and is ready to get behind the England team.

“This is an apology to anyone who has been hanging round me for the last couple of weeks,” Hart said. “I’ve been moping around but those days are over and I’m ready to support my team.

“I’m ready to come back stronger. I’m filled with motivation and I’m filled with desire to get back to the top.”

DSS Nabs ISIS Commanders In Abuja

The Department of State Services (DSS) has disclosed that two commanders of the Islamic State in West Africa had been arrested in Kukuntu village, Gwagwalada, Abuja.

The spokesperson for the agency, Mr. Tony Opuiyo, made the disclosure in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, June 21, 2018.

Opuiyo said the suspects were arrested on May 5, after operatives of the agency carried out what he described as special operations on the identified targets.

The statement was issued barely days after UK Sun reported that ISIS leaders were sneaking “battle-hardened extremists” from Syria into Nigeria.

He said, “Determined to continuously thwart the budding cells of the Islamic State in West Africa and Boko Haram, the service conducted special operations on identified targets.

“This led to the successful arrest of Bashiru Adams and Rufai Sajo, commanders of the group on May 5, 2018, at Kukuntu village, Gwagwalada Area Council, FCT, Abuja.

“Relatedly, the service had on April 28, 2018, at Muda Lawal Market, Bauchi, Bauchi State, arrested another member of the ISWA, Umar Dogo.

“The suspects were discovered to have concluded plans to not only perpetuate the ideals of the movement in the area, but to, in collaboration with Boko Haram, carry out heinous violent attacks on innocent persons.”

He added that following intelligence reports, Adamu Hassan (aka Bale) and Abubakr Abubakar (aka Alhaji /Buba), who he described as experts in the assembling of Improvised Explosive Devices, were also arrested.

Opuiyo said two members of the dreaded Basalube kidnap group were arrested on June 17 at Karu village in Abuja.

#WorldCupWith360nobs: Croatia Coach Zlatko Dalic Praises His Team After Trashing Argentina

Featured Image

Croatia coach Zlatko Dalic was full of praise for his side after their 3-0 win against Argentina on Thursday evening.

Ante Rebic pounced on a goalkeeping error from Willy Caballero to put Croatia ahead, before Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic netted in the latter stages of the game to top off a perfect night for their country.

Zlatko Dalic is determined to enjoy the historic moment with his side, but insists that staying humble is important to progress further in the competition.

“I have trusted my team from the first day. I didn’t believe we would be through after the second game. Argentina were not confused we were excellent,” Dalic told reporters after the game.

“We have to be happy because we have done a lot of good things. We have emerged from the group after two games and we have beaten a strong Argentinian side with the best player in the world. But we have to be calm, humble and dignified. We have to be disciplined and I want my 22nd player to be as hungry as my first player to achieve victory.

“Every coach has their own style of work. Over the last few days we haven’t looked at tactics because I wanted to relieve my players of the stress. I recently said this was going to be our best match because we played with fluidity and confidence and the whole of Croatia enjoyed it.

#WorldCupWith360nobs: Pablo Zabaleta Slams Argentina’s Disgraceful Performance Vs Croatia

Featured Image

Pablo Zabaleta has slammed Argentina’s performance in their 3-0 defeat to Croatia on Thursday evening.

Ante Rebic capitalised on a goalkeeping error from Willy Caballero to put the Croatians in the lead, before an astonishing goal from Luka Modric and a tap in for Ivan Rakitic put Argentina to bed and in severe danger of being knocked out of the World Cup.

Zabaleta, who has 58 caps for his international side, was stunned by Argentina’s display and expected a lot more from his former teammates at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium.

“It was a really poor performance by Argentina, especially in that second half. You have to give credit to Croatia, though, they are a very good side and they played very well today,” the West Ham right-back told the BBC after the game.

“I have no idea why we didn’t play with two strikers – with Gonzalo Higuain and Sergio Aguero – we needed men in the box. It would have made it so hard for the defenders with both strikers on – because someone goes deep and someone goes on the shoulder – it was easy for them.

“I’ve never seen a performance like this by Argentina. Never before. There was a lack of spirit and it’s very strange to see. In the second half we weren’t good enough. I think after the Willy Caballero mistake it was mentally very difficult for the players to come back and win the game. All Argentina’s players play for big clubs – they should have done much, much better.”
