Scores of persons have been feared dead on Thursday evening after a tanker loaded with petrol product bursted into flames on the popular Otedola bridge axis of Berger in Lagos state.

The tanker was heading out of Lagos towards the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when the crash occurred, causing panic and fear after the blaze engulfed at least 30 other vehicles.

The bridge is on the outside metropolis and it is usually busy in late afternoons.

As of the time of filing this report, tens of vehicles were caught in the inferno, and many feared dead.

Although official figure as to the number of casualties was yet to be ascertained, it was gathered that over 40 cars have been razed and its occupants.

It was also learnt that the casualty figure might be on the high side because of the huge vehicular traffic on the bridge before the explosion went off.

Meanwhile, emergency workers from Lagos state emergency Management Authority and Lagos fire service are reportedly at the scene while a police source said 10 bodies have been recovered.

Spokesman of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), Bisi Kazeem, said:

“A crash involving a fallen loaded tanker crash has occurred around Otedola bridge on the outward Lagos section of the expressway. Many vehicles caught fire in the process.

“Motorists are advised to avoid the scene of the inferno.”

Senegal Crash Out Of #WorldCup For Accumulating More Yellow Cards

Featured Image

Poor Senegal have created a piece of unwanted history on Thursday, by becoming the first team ever to be eliminated from the World Cup on the fair play rule.

Colombia ended Africa’s World Cup dream on Thursday after defeating Senegal 1-0 to top World Cup Group H.

Yerry Mina’s late goal gave the South Americans victory and left Senegal and Japan level on points, goal difference and head-to-head.

But Senegal were eliminated due to having accumulated two more yellow cards than Japan.

Each of Africa’s five representatives have now exited at the group phase.

Senegal were the last remaining African side in the competition and their elimination means that there will be no African team in the second round of a World Cup for the first time since 1982.

Group H was won by Colombia, whilst Japan progress despite losing 1-0 to bottom of the table Poland.

He stressed that the closure is also to guard against the escalation of the violence in the market to other parts of the state.

Oladeji said that security agencies have been intimated about the situation in the market to maintain law and order.

The state government had directed that the butchers should relocate to a new abattoir outside the town but the butchers did not agree with the directive.

President Buhari Or Herdsman Buhari?

President Buhari Or Herdsman Buhari? By Paul Onomuakpokpo

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

Having not suffered any traumatic dilemma over his overweening loyalty to herdsmen who are his fellow Fulani, President Muhammadu Buhari is oblivious of his rapid erasure as a statesman. Or if he is aware, he is not bothered about the grim verdict of history – here was a president of a great nation who ended as a leader of a segment of the country, Fulani herdsmen.

This piece was written by Paul Onomuakpokpo. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of

Yes, we must discountenance Buhari’s sense of justice that seeks to exculpate him from the tragedies being unleashed by Fulani herdsmen. He vouchsafed this notion of justice during his visit to Plateau after the Fulani herdsmen’s attacks whose death toll has been officially put at 135 while witnesses claim it is over 200. He wondered why he should be accused of being silent over the now perennial massacres.

The wonder is why Buhari should be surprised that he is being blamed for the Fulani herdsmen’s terrorism. His administration would not be identified with the legacy of solving the myriad of problems with which the nation is contending. Nor with directing the people’s energies towards a collective goal that would produce greater unity for the nation. Hobbled by its inability to respond to existential challenges that pose a mortal blow to our individual and collective existence, the Buhari government demurs at the prospect of conquering the moon. Thus, unlike other nations of the world whose stellar socio-economic, political and technological strides would etch them in the memories of other countries, Nigeria gains the attention of the world because it is trapped in the comparison of the death statistics of the Buhari administration and those of his predecessor, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.

While it is true that Boko Haram gloated about its suzerainty over swathes of the nation’s territory under Jonathan, the rash of deaths since Buhari emerged as president has shown that insecurity was only at its inchoate stage under the Ijaw poster boy of good luck. Jonathan was evicted from Aso Rock when he had only Boko Haram insurgents to contend with. But since the emergence of Buhari, insecurity has increased. In addition to Boko Haram, there is now the Fulani scourge. Buhari was voted into office because he claimed to possess the magic wand to end the insecurity. Nigerians believed because he is not only a retired general, he has been a head of state. It was assumed that he was very familiar not only with governance but strategies for countering insecurity.

However, three years after, it has become clear that it was only an illusion. The people are now faced with the reality that Buhari has no magic wand. His failure to tame the Fulani herdsmen has only portrayed him as being in support of the plague of our common peace. Thus, on his watch, thousands have been killed by Fulani herdsmen. If Jonathan was considered to have lost the raison deter for his occupancy of Aso Rock to the abduction of 273 Chibok schoolgirls, can Buhari claim any legitimacy to his stay in Aso Rock after thousands have been killed by Fulani herdsmen on his watch?

But what do the Fulani herdsmen really want? Why have they declared themselves implacable foes of our peace? Their implacability is seen in the fact that in less than a week after Buhari announced an iniquitous budget of N179 billion for them to have ranches, they savagely attacked residents of Plateau State.

No matter how much Buhari whines that he is pained by his alleged complicity in the killings, the charge cannot easily be dismissed. For, Buhari has neglected the responsibility of curbing the lunacy of the herdsmen that inevitably results in destruction on an apocalyptic scale. While the citizens are still in confusion as regards who could have been responsible for the killings that have convulsed the nation, Fulani herdsmen often claim culpability. The Miyetti Allah is often ready with the claim that Fulani herdsmen are killing to avenge the rustling of their cattle or grazing laws that threaten their business. This has been the case in Benue and now Plateau State. In essence, the perpetrators of the killings are not hidden. So, if Buhari really wants to arrest and prosecute the killers, he could easily arrest the Miyetti Allah leaders since they can explain why the killings take place.

Buhari deserves to be blamed for the Fulani herdsmen’s killings because he has refused to accept the need for him to review his security architecture. He has stuck to the nepotistic security architecture that is anchored on incompetence .If Buhari really wanted to check the killings why has he not appointed new service chiefs? Why has he not sacked the Inspector-General of Police Ibrahim Idris and Defence Minister Mansur Dan Ali?

Discerning Nigerian patriots think that the Fulani herdsmen’s crisis can be resolved through restructuring. It has been observed that restructuring would enable the states to work out their own security strategies to check a crisis like that of the Fulani herdsmen. The baleful consequence of the absence of a restructured polity is now seen in the predicament of Governor Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari of Zamfara. He has no control over the security system in his state. The security chiefs in the state receive directives from Abuja. So no matter how much he is outraged at the carnage that is claiming his citizens, he cannot take a decisive measure to intervene. Yari has underscored his frustration with this incapacitating structure of the polity, when he declared that he was resigning from the office of the chief security officer of the state.

While Buhari refuses to check the killings, we must be alert to the harm they are causing the nation. They have stoked ethnic hatred. The victims who survived their attacks only feel safe in their ethnic cocoons. The erosion of Nigerianess that the killings has provoked can be seen in the light of the prayer of some of the citizens during the Super Eagles’ match against Argentina in Russia. They were opposed to Nigeria winning because such victory would make Nigerians to forget the tragedies at home. They were afraid that banters would now centre on the Super Eagles’ victory and not on the killings and the overarching need to check their recurrence.

It is obvious that the nation urgently needs clear-cut measures to check all these crises. But this sense of urgency is lost on Buhari. Such sense of urgency is blurred by Buhari’s quest for another four years. But it should be clear that Buhari needs another four years not to serve the nation but to demonstrate more loyalty to his fellow herdsmen. Blinded by this loyalty, Buhari cannot grasp his derailment encapsulated in the warning of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group that he has to choose between the presidency of Nigeria and that of Miyetti Allah.

Perhaps, these killings are too far from the federal seat of power and this is why Buhari and his officials are not aware of the tragedies under which the nation is currently choking. In that case, we need to appropriate the admonition of the maverick Senator Shehu Sani that the victims of the Plateau killings should be buried close to Aso Rock. May be, when Buhari and his aides are confronted daily with these sad reminders of their tragic fecklessness, they would devise effective strategies to check the Fulani herdsmen plague. But it is not likely that this would even weaken Buhari’s ambition to snatch another four years from unwilling and bloodied citizens. But if those who want his return have their way, they should be ready for another four years of death and pain as he diminishes himself further and inflicts his Fulani herdsmen on them.

Ed Sheeran Sued For $100 Million For Allegedly Copying Marvin Gaye’s Music

Popular British singer Ed Sheeran is being sued for $100 million after he was accused of copying Marvin Gaye’s classic song “Let’s Get it On.”

According to a report published on Thursday by TMZ, a company called Structured Asset Sales has filed the lawsuit, claiming Ed’s song, “Thinking Out Loud,” is a carbon copy of Gaye’s “Let’s Get it On.”

The company, in its lawsuit, is claiming that that Sheeran’s famous song has identical drums, rhythms, harmonies, melody, tempo, bassline, looping and backing chorus with “Let’s Get it On.”

Gaye’s song was written by a guy named Edward Townsend and Gaye in 1973. Townsend died in 2003, and Structured Asset Sales bought one-third of the copyright.

Sheeran’s song, Thinking Out Loud was nominated for a Grammy for Best Record, Best Performance and Song of the Year in 2016.

It was gathered that court documents also confirmed that Ed’s single and the album it’s on — “X” — sold more than 15 million copies and the song has been played on YouTube more than a billion times.

While the British singer has already been sued by Townsend’s heirs, it remains to be seen if the Gaye’s family might also sue him.

Nigerian Doctor Slumps, Dies After Watching Argentina Beat Nigeria

Dr Kennis Ebirim, a family physician with the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, has been confirmed dead after watching Tuesday’s 2018 World Cup match between Nigeria and Argentina.

NOW TRENIDNG: Ighalo Reacts To Death Threat

Family members, colleagues and neighbours confirmed the death of Ebirim to the News Agency of Nigeria at his residence in Owerri.

The deceased was reported to have slumped and rushed to hospital after Nigeria crashed out of the world football tournament.

Dr Chikere Ebirim, a lecturer in the Department of Public Health, Federal University of Technology, Owerri,  and younger brother to the deceased, expressed shock over the development.

He said: “We were together on Sunday with my dad. He used to have cases of heart attack but he was also on medication.

“This is so shocking because he was sound in health when he left Owerri on Monday morning for Abakaliki where he works.”

Dr Hyacinth Emele, the immediate past Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Imo state branch, also confirmed the incident to NAN, describing it as a heavy blow to the association.

“The NMA in Imo and indeed in Nigeria is in deep shock. This is a heavy blow. More than just a colleague, he was a brother, one who could never hurt a fly,” he said.

On the possible cause of the doctor’s death, Emele said:

“Dr Ebirim has been a hypertensive patient who has also been on medication.

“What happened to him is what we call sudden death syndrome which most times are caused by a cardiac arrest.

“As a patriotic Nigerian who is passionate about his country just like many of us including me, it is possible the outcome of that match may have triggered the confusion in his system, causing him to slump.

“I think an autopsy will reveal what exactly transpired in his system. When that is done, the exact cause of death will be made known to the public.”

Sgt. Michael Attah, the Chief Security Officer, Heartland Estate, Owerri, where the doctor lived with his family until his death, said the management of the estate confirmed the incident on Wednesday.

“We thought it was a joke until we confirmed it on Wednesday. We feel sad because he was someone we trusted with the position of treasurer in the estate,” he said.

Ebirim is survived by his father, wife, four children and relations.

Plateau Killings: Timi Frank Drags President Buhari To UN

Featured Image
The immediate past Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Comrade Timi Frank has reported the inability of the sitting government under President Muhammadu Buhari to stop what he called “ethnic cleansing and genocide in Nigeria” to the United Nation.
In an open letter addressed to the Secretary/General of the United Nations, António Guterres, through its office in Abuja on Thursday, the APC chieftain said Nigerians have lost confidence in the security outfits, especially the military, having allegedly shown complicity in the killings going on. Calling on the United Nations and other world powers to make their own private findings as to what was going on in Nigeria as it relates to security matters, saying “if we don’t get intervention in good time, there may not be Nigeria in the nearest future.”
Part of the letter titled: “A Call For Urgent Intervention To Stop Ongoing Ethnic Cleansing And Genocide In Nigeria” read,
“It has become imperative for me to once again bring to your attention the continuous mass murder of innocent Nigerians by Fulani Herdsmen without required mitigation from the present administration in the country. The tension between Fulani herdsmen and farming communities has existed for many years. However, there has been a dramatic upswing in recent time with increasing brutal attacks and gruesome killings on a daily basis. The impunity and brutality with which the assailants operate, without regard to law and sanctity of life, is both shocking and appalling.”
“It is however surprising to note that the government of the day which was elected in an unprecedented public approval in 2015, has not deemed it necessary to summon the political will and courage to forge a lasting solution to the violence. The nation’s security is on a free float while Nigerians are being killed in their native communities where they have dwelled for ages. You are no doubt aware that Fulani herdsmen have been acknowledged by the global community as the fourth deadliest Terror Group in the world. ‘Fulani militants’ as they have come to be known are daily visiting deaths on innocent farmers who dare challenge them after their farms have been ravaged by cattle. For the singular reason that they want their cattle to graze on other people’s farmland, they kill and maim natives. Therefore, lives and property are perpetually endangered across the country as I write.”
“Curiously however, the government of the day has refused to declare the group as a terrorist organization, as a way of bringing permanent closure to their bloodletting activities. Another worrisome dimension to this orgy of violence is the fact that President Muhammadu Buhari has consistently defended them as a group that merely carry sticks and machetes. However, to the contrary, eyewitnesses report that the Fulani militants are usually armed with sophisticated weapons and often attack their victims when they are most vulnerable, such as midnights, church services and burial ceremonies. They have consistently visited and brutally killed predominantly Christian natives in the North Central Region including some parts of the South and North of the country.”
“I dare say that the United Nations cannot stand aloof and watch human lives being wasted on such gargantuan scale as being witnessed daily in Nigeria, due largely to the failure of government to rise to the occasion and stem the tide; by doing the needful to safeguard the lives of its own people.”
“I therefore, call on the United Nations and the G7 countries such as the United States of America, Canada, Italy, France, Germany, Japan and the United Kingdom to come to Nigeria’s aid before it is too late. We as Nigerians have lost confidence in our security outfits, especially the military as they have shown complicity in the killings going on in Nigeria. Questions begging for answers are: Why have they not been able to prevent the attacks, make arrest and prosecute the killers? These attacks are being carried out for hours and no single suspect has been prosecuted?”
I therefore call on the United Nations and other world powers to make their own private findings as to what is going on in Nigeria as it relates to security matters. As it is, if we don’t get intervention in good time, there may not be Nigeria in the nearest future.”

“Soldiers Kill 6 Herdsmen, 150 Cows In Nasarawa”

Featured Image

The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed that soldiers deployed in the Benue and Nasarawa states border have allegedly killed about six Fulani herdsmen and over 150 cows at Akpanagya, in the Keana Local Government Area of the State.

According to a report by The Punch, the acting Police Public Relations Officer, Nasarawa State Command, ASP Usman Samaila, said the command received information that the military personnel came from Benue and carried out the operation that led to the killing of six people suspected to be Fulani herders in the state.

Samaila further disclosed that the command did not know what really happened between the Fulani herders and the military men.

He said, “The command is aware of the incident that took place in the Keana Local Government Area of the state.

“I can confirm to you that our men went to the scene of the incident and recovered about six dead bodies killed by the suspected military men in the area.”

He described the incident as “a wild operation that was formed by the military personnel to prevent an unabated crisis between Fulani herders and Tiv farmers at Benue and Nasarawa states border.”

The spokesman further revealed that the command had already drafted its personnel to Keana Local Government Area of the state to avert any possible future crisis.

In his reaction to the killings of their people and cows, the Chairman of the Miyyeti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Nasarawa State Chapter, Mallam Muhammed Hussein, expressed sadness over the attack.

Speaking while addressing newsmen at the Association’s secretariat in Lafia on Wednesday, Hussein said:

“We are not happy that six of our members were shot dead by some bad eggs who are in the military.

“If the military suspects any Fulani man for any crime, they should arrest and prosecute him and not to just kill like that.

“I am not aware of what led to the attack but I was informed that some soldiers just invaded a Fulani settlement and shot six of our people, including a traditional title holder in the Fulani community.

“We want the government to investigate and punish the soldiers who carried out the killing because we are not going to take it.”

He added, “If you claim that the Fulani people committed a crime, how about the cows, what did the cows do that they will kill 150 cows?”

#WorldCupWith360nobs: Germany Have Not Played Well Since October 2017 – Mats Hummels

Featured Image

Germany defender Mats Hummels admitted that their decline rot started over eight months ago after they crashed out of the World Cup with defeat to South Korea

Two late goals from the Koreans saw Germany eliminated at the group stage of a World Cup for the first time ever as they finished bottom of the group, with Sweden and Mexico progressing to the last 16.

Hummels lamented that Germany’s opening defeat to Mexico had left them on the back foot.

“We see in this World Cup that it is easy for any team [to be eliminated], except for Belgium and England. We put ourselves in this situation by losing against Mexico,” said Hummels, quoted by L’Equipe.

“There are some things we need to correct, but I will not talk about it publicly. The last time we had a good game, convincing was in October 2017.”

#WorldCupWith360nobs: South Korea Boss Shin Tae-yong Having Mixed Feelings After Eliminating Germany From The World Cup

Featured Image

South Korea boss Shin Tae-yong has said that he still feels “a little bit empty” despite guiding his players to defeat Germany at the World Cup.

Last-gasp goals from Kim Young-gwon and Tottenham forward Son Heung-min earned South Korea a famous 2-0 win in Kazan, while defending champions Germany were eliminated from the World Cup

However, South Korea have also missed out on a place in the knockout stages, and while acknowledging the magnitude of his side’s victory, Shin has admitted that it is tinged with disappointment.

Shin is quoted by FIFA’s official website as saying: “I feel great but at the same time I feel a little bit empty, so I feel a little bit ambivalent.

“Yesterday we said there was only a 1% chance and so I told my players it really was a last-ditch effort for them and I told them that they had to fight until the end.

“Germany are the defending champions and number one in the FIFA Ranking, so I thought about what mistakes Germany might make, because they probably felt they would be able to beat us – that’s what everybody thought. I thought we could use that as a reverse strategy and that has really hit the nail on the head.”

#WorldCupWith360nobs: Serbia Manager Mladen Krstajic Admits They Couldn’t Match ‘Football Powerhouse’ Brazil

Featured Image

Serbia coach Mladen Krstajic has admitted his players couldn’t compete with a ‘footballing powerhouse’ after his side were eliminated from the World Cup following a 2-0 defeat to Brazil.

Knowing a win would’ve confirmed their place in the last 16 for the first time in their current guise, goals in the first and second half from Paulinho and Thiago Silva meant Serbia had to settle for third place in Group E.

As quoted by ESPN, Krstajic said: “We went out to win against a powerhouse in modern football and we came up short. I congratulate my players for their brave efforts, their attitude to the badge and the jersey.

“We pressed high and in the second half we tried to take risks…But it’s very difficult to play such an open game against such a football powerhouse like Brazil.

“That’s how it goes in football. We had to up our game. We took more risks in the second half. We had our chances but we were punished.”

Despite the premature exit from the World Cup, Krstajic was immensely proud of his side’s efforts in Russia, who were competing in the tournament for the first time since 2010.

Krstajic continued, stating: “The players gave their all. We came to the World Cup to show our true colours after eight years of missing out on major tournaments. We can be very satisfied with our performance.”

#WorldCupWith360nobs: Germany Boss Joachim Low Admits They Deserved To Be Eliminated From The World Cup

Germany manager Joachim Low has admitted that they deserved to be eliminated from the World Cup after losing to South Korea on Wednesday.

A Victory would have been enough for Germany to progress through to the last 16 of the competition, but two goals in added-on time gave South Korea a famous win.

The defeat means that Germany have suffered an early exit and Joachim Low has acknowledged that the disappointment that he and his first-team squad is experiencing is “huge”.

The 58-year-old is quoted by FIFA’s official website as saying: “At the moment it is hard to say why we have been eliminated. The disappointment of us being eliminated is just huge. We didn’t deserve to be winning the World Cup once again, we didn’t deserve to move into the round of 16.

“Our team in this match was missing the ease of play and the classiness that we normally display. Also the dynamism that led to the goalscoring opportunities was not there, so we deserve to be eliminated.”

Jorginho’s Agent Provides Update On The Midfielder’s Move To Manchester City

The agent of Napoli Midfielder Jorginho has provided a further update on his proposed move from Napoli to Manchester City, insisting that both teams are working hard to complete a deal.

Jorginho, reportedly valued at no more than £44m by the Citizens, has been at the centre of drawn-out talks over the past month.

Serie A runners-up Napoli are continuing to haggle over a higher fee, potentially rising to £59m, but Santos is now in England and expects a transfer to go through for the 26-year-old soon.

“Manchester City are working to close the deal with Napoli – any moment could be the right one,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss. “The player is in Brazil.

“I’m in my house in England, waiting for a call from [sporting director Cristiano] Giuntoli or [owner Aurelio] De Laurentiis. When it arrives, I will go to meet the leadership of Manchester City.”
