Why I Called Out The Celebrity Owing Me Money – Orezi Reveals

Featured Image

Few weeks ago, Nigerian singer Orezi called out a Nigerian celebrity who refused to refund he borrowed him.

The singer threatened to reveal the identity of the person if he refuse to pay back in 24hours.

In an interview with Sunday Scoop, Orezi explained why he had to go as far as social media to threaten his debtor.

Contrary to popular believe that the Singer did that as a publicity stunt move, Orezi stated that the celebrity actually owed him for over six months and refused to pay back.

“A certain celebrity owed me some money and I was angry. He has owed me for over six months. I did what I did because I felt he was taking me for granted.

But I am happy he got the message and looked for the money. He is yet to pay in full, but he has dropped some money. Before then, he didn’t respond to my calls.

He also stopped replying my messages on WhatsApp even though he was obviously reading them.

The celebrity made me do it. After seeing the post, he called me immediately, telling me that it shouldn’t have gotten to that level. I don’t care what people think about me; I have done what I wanted to do and I have moved on,” he stated.

Croatia Advance To Quarterfinals After Beating Denmark In Penalties

Featured Image

Croatia are through to the quarter-finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia on Sunday night after beating Denmark in the second penalty shootout of the day.

It was drama from the onset as Denmark scored in under a minute as Mathias Jorgensen latched onto the end of a long throw that caused mayhem in the six-yard-box.

But just three minutes later Mario Mandzukic equalised with a clinical finish after the ball pinballed around the penalty area.

As the 90 minutes drew to a close, the two sides were limited to shots from range as neither wanted to risk committing too many men forward.

The game finally came back to life as Croatia were awarded a penalty 25 minutes into extra time after Mathias Jorgensen brought down Andrej Kramaric through on goal, but Kasper Schmeichel saved from Luka Modric to keep Denmark’s hopes alive and penalties were needed once again.

Both sides missed their first and fourth penalties as goalkeepers Schmeichel and Danijel Subasic stole the show.

But it was Subasic who came out on top as he saved from Nikolai Jorgensen.

Ivan Rakitic then went on to score the decisive penalty and win it for Croatia.

The Nigerian Army on Sunday, July 1, confirmed that about 32 Boko Haram terrorists have willingly surrendered themselves to troops at different locations in Borno.

Confirming this in a statement issued earlier today, the army spokesman, Texas Chukwu, said that among them was one Ibrahim Lawal, who also surrendered one AK 47 rifle.

Mr Chukwu added that Mr Lawal also handed over two magazines containing 59 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition.

“The surrendered terrorists are currently undergoing interrogation and will be handed over to the appropriate authority on completion,” he said.

Russia Advance To Quarterfinals After Beating Spain 4-3 In Penalties

Featured Image

The host Russia have advanced to the quarterfinals with a 4-3 victory over Spain on penalty kicks on Sunday afternoon, July 1, 2018.

The two teams had to play extra-time in their World Cup last-16 clash in Moscow after they ended normal time locked at 1-1.

The 2010 world champions dominated possession against the hosts in the first half and went ahead courtesy of a Sergei Ignashevich own goal in the 12th minute.

But as the clock ticked down to half-time, the referee adjudged that Gerard Pique had handled the ball and Artem Dzyuba made no mistake from the spot.

Meanwhile, the introduction of Andres Iniesta from the bench in the second half failed to break the deadlock for Spain.

After extra time, Koke’s third penalty for Spain was saved by Igor Akinfeev who then saved Iago Aspas’s final shot.

Russia will face either Croatia or Denmark, who are meeting later on Sunday, in Sochi on July 7.

Details later…

CBN Gives All Banks 3 Days To Resolve USSD Disputes

CBN Orders All Banks To Resolve USSD Disputes In 3 Days

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) directed all commercial banks to resolve disputes arising from use of Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) channel within three days.

The directive was given on Saturday by Dipo Fatokun, CBN’s Director, Banking and Payment Systems Department, at the ‘Meet The Executive’ forum organised by Finance Correspondents Association of Nigeria (FICAN) in Lagos.

Mr Fatokun, represented by the assistant director, Banking and Payments System Department, Taiwo Oladimeji, said such resolution would help build more confidence in the payment system and bring more people into the financial services net.

The director said some provisions of the regulatory framework for USSD were meant to make the channel more effective.

He listed some of the provisions as authentication measures for transactions, International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI), Date of SIM Swap, Date of Device change, International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI).

NAN reports that the director said the maximum USSD transaction limit remained N100, 000 per customer daily, and that any amount above that required customers to execute indemnity at the bank.

“USSD transactions above N20,000 require two-factor authentication (2FA).

“No USSD financial service should be activated for customers unless the deactivation mechanism is put in place with effect from October, 2018.

“In addition, the CBN is currently working to properly structure and formalise the sandbox arrangement in Nigeria by collaborating with some infrastructure providers like the Nigeria Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS) to interact with FinTechs,” he said.

Mr Fatokun, however, said the financial system was undergoing transformation through technology, and that it was not only peculiar to the financial services sector but all sectors of human endeavours.

“We are seeing new operators with technology savvy, more efficient models, and collaborations among new entrants as well as established participants in payments systems in ways that exhibit regulatory challenges.

“To meet up with the challenges, some countries have adopted regulatory sandbox approach which is not totally novel to the CBN.

“We are, however, working to properly structure and formalise the sandbox arrangement in Nigeria by collaborating with some infrastructure providers to interact with FinTechs,” he said.

Alleged Robbery! Police Arrest Deputy Superintendent Of Prisons

Featured Image

The officers of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested a Deputy Superintendent of Prisons in the Nigerian Prisons Service, Mr. Collins Ugwu, on suspicion of armed robbery.

The accused, a native of Ezza in Ebonyi State, who resides in Abuja where he works at the headquarters of the Nigeria Prisons Service, was reportedly caught in Enugu on June 26.

He was arrested alongside alleged accomplices — Ifeanyi Ozor, a native of Enugu State who is also residing in Abuja; and Smart Osetu, from Oguta in Imo State.

The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State, Mr. Mohammed Danmallam, who disclosed this while parading the suspects, said the suspects are members of a syndicate, which specializes in monitoring bank customers.

Danmallam alleged, “The suspects (Ugwu, Ozor and Osetu) belonged to a syndicate that specialised in monitoring anyone that had gone to the bank to make withdrawals and trailed them to a point where they could smartly force the door or the windscreen (of the victims’ cars) open with their instrument and steal the said amount.

“They were also a part of a syndicate that bought goods from traders and generated fake payment alert to the owners of the goods without him knowing.

“They were nabbed along Ogui Road, Enugu, by the operatives of the Enugu State Police Command on June 26, 2018, following intelligence information gathered concerning their nefarious activities.”

Items allegedly recovered from the suspects, according to Danmallam, included a Golf car with registration number Abuja RBC 220 KF, and a broken plug which they allegedly used in ‘scratching down’ windows of cars when they wanted to steal from their victims.

French President Macron to Visit Fela’s Afrika Shrine In Lagos On Tuesday

Featured Image

French leader Emmanuel Macron will on Tuesday visit a nightclub founded by Nigerian music legend Fela Kuti, becoming the first “real president” to enter a venue synonymous with marijuana smoke, sexy backup dancers and protest music.

The New Afrika Shrine located in the teeming Lagos district of Ikeja replaced Fela Kuti’s original club that burnt down in 1977, but for millions of fans it still represents the original Shrine built by the musical maverick.

“The Shrine is a must-see place,” said Olivier Laouchez, the head of the TRACE media and entertainment group and organiser of the event Macron will attend, adding that Lagos is “Africa’s cultural capital”.

The evening will feature concerts, fashion shows by leading African designers and a meeting with stars from Nigeria’s booming Nollywood film industry.

Lagos is also giving Johannesburg — the other African cultural hotspot — a run for its money in the art world with its annual Art X event.

“There is clearly something abuzz in Lagos, with auctions mushrooming, and this will explode,” said contemporary art specialist Marie-Cecile Zinsou, who is based in neighbouring Benin.

“The idea is to show the richness and diversity of African cultures,” said Laouchez.

“Europe does not know Africa or at least its cultural dimension.”

Macron, who is visiting the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott to attend an African Union summit on Sunday, will go on to Nigeria’s capital Abuja for talks with his counterpart Muhammadu Buhari on security and terrorism, before coming to Lagos, a vibrant megapolis of 20 million people.

– The Afrobeat king –

Fela Kuti came from a patrician Nigerian family whose pioneering music and quest for social justice made him an international star and the bugbear of Nigeria’s former military rulers.

Called the “black president” by adoring fans, Fela Kuti’s trademark style, christened Afrobeat, featured songs in his native Yoruba and pidgin and were searing indictments of corruption and incompetence.

Ibrahim Tcha-Tchere, a veteran employee of the Alliance Francaise cultural institute in Lagos, said Macron’s visit was fitting given that “France has always had great cultural cooperation with Nigeria.

“It was the French who organised Fela’s first European tour in 1981,” he said.

“Then his sons Femi and Seun launched their international careers in France.”

The shrine is a big hall, painted brown and yellow, with patterns of green, red and black, suggesting African symbolism.

Laouchez joked that organising the event was no cakewalk, saying: “It requires great organisation because there are frequent power cuts and you have to ensure that the ceiling fans do not fall on the heads of guests… but it’s exciting.”

“Musically speaking, the new Nigerian Afrobeat movement is global,” he added, pointing to stars such as Davido, Wizkid and Mr Eazi.

Ex-Boko Haram Commander Says He Can Make Shekau, 137 Other Fighters Surrender

Featured Image

A 32 year-old former Boko Haram Commander, Rawana Goni, has appealed to the Nigerian military authorities to allow him make a phone call to the elusive leader, Abubakar Shekau and at least 137 other terrorists to make them surrender.

Goni, who is undergoing rehabilitation at a military detention camp in Maiduguri, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The former Boko Haram commander is an indigene of Bama in Borno state. He surrendered to the military in Cameroon after escaping from Sambisa Forest eight months ago.

He claimed to have held several positions in ten different cells of Boko Haram in Sambisa.

He said the last position he held was as the Chief officer of Dispute Resolution for the group.

He explained that many militants came to him to settle problems ranging from family matters. He also reconciled Boko Haram factions.

“I rescued people sentenced to death and minimised punishment of those who committed crimes.

I am one of the most influential persons in the group and they always listened and abided by what I said.

“I joined Boko Haram because of the condition I found myself in the last five years.

When the insurgents invaded Bama town, I ran with my family to Cameroon thinking I was in a safe destination.

But on reaching Cameroon, I was shocked to realise that I brought myself into another Boko Haram camp.

By that time, I knew I would not survive without joining the group.

“Days after my induction, we opened a permanent camp at the Cameroon border and named the forest “Aluska”. It was in that camp that I learnt all types of trainings including handling weapons.

“After the training, we embarked on our first mission. We invaded a military formation in Cameroon, dislodged the soldiers and took many weapons from their armoury.

We couldn’t take any vehicle because the area was surrounded by river.

“We took the weapons we recovered to our leader Abubakar Shekau and briefed him on our success. He was happy that five of us could dislodge a military formation.

After congratulating us, he appointed me to lead the group and returned our weapons to us.

“Few days later, I recruited many fighters, because as a commander, you are expected to have no fewer than 250 fighting troops.

“With the new fighting force, we invaded Waza village, Damaga and Banki. We also invaded Bama which is my hometown.

“I was touched to see my people being tortured and killed, while many women and children were living in excruciating hardship.

So I decided to pass a message to my fellow insurgents from Bama and we formed a group comprising of about 137 persons to help our people in prison to escape.

“I was able to rescue about 300 hostages at the prison facility in Bama.

I usually lied to the guards at the prison that I was going to kill the inmates. But I would take them to a safe place in Konduga and ask them to run to a safer destination.

“Many of the prisoners were exposed to hard labour while some were used as guinea-pigs at shooting range by new arms handlers among Boko Haram,”he said.

On Abubakar Shekau’s health status, Goni told NAN that the insurgents’ leader was healthy as against a report that he was ill.

“Nothing happened to him. He broke his leg five years ago while riding on a horse.

But he had since recovered. Any one saying Shekau is sick is only deceiving himself.

We used to communicate through radiophone but not any more,”he said.

Goni who believed that the war was coming to an end, urged the military to let him tell Shekau and other insurgents that he is still alive.

“My 137 boys are on standby to hear I am still alive and I can assure you they will run out of Sambisa Forest and surrender to the military.

I once told them to surrender and they said we shall all get killed.

But I told them that I will surrender and they said if nothing happened to me, they will all come out,” he said.

Goni commended the military for the special treatment given to inmates who surrendered.

“They received us with joy and interact with us at all time. They feed us well and always want to know our problems. If other Boko Haram members knew how we are being treated, they will never want to remain where they are,”he said.

Otedola Bridge Tragedy And The Moving Time Bombs On Nigerian Roads

Otedola Bridge Tragedy And The Moving Time Bombs On Nigerian Roads, By Adegbenro Adebanjo

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

Yes, brake failure and other mechanical malfunction could have been responsible for the spate of accidents of tankers and articulated vehicles, which has become a recurring phenomenon laden with tragedies in different parts of the country. As we continue to bewail the monumental tragedy that occurred in Lagos on Thursday, June 28, 2018, when a petrol tanker crashed on the Otedola Bridge at full speed, leaving in its wake a carnage of horrendous proportion, including a conservatively estimated 9 deaths and 54 burnt vehicles, by official accounts, which is open to disputation because of the scale of the tragedy involved. It is obvious that there is more to such tragic accidents than mechanical failure and over speeding. One area that the authorities and other institutions vested with the responsibilities of keeping our roads safe from such horrible and heart wrenching accidents have all failed to look at critically, is the personality of those who drive these tankers and articulated vehicles.

This piece was written by Adegbenro Adebanjo. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

The physical and mental state of the drivers of the vehicles and their assistants (motor boys) could be largely responsible for the growing rash of accidents of the magnitude that occurred on Otedola Bridge. Some of the drivers are not well trained to handle such vehicles, while a number of them do not possess the right mental and physical capabilities to be on the road. And, of course, they are also forced by accident or design to work beyond the threshold of their resilience. It is inconceivable for a driver to be behind the wheel for 72 hours without taking time to rest properly. Some of the drivers routinely drive for between two and four days non-stop. They are simply accidents waiting to happen and when their vehicles are the types that convey inflammable liquids like petrol, diesel and gas, they are simply moving time bombs on the roads, unknown to other road users.

A few months back, I was travelling from the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) with a contingent of eight people, including professors and other senior academic and administrative staff. Just before Ogere, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, a tanker fully laden with combustible oil, which was traveling at high speed, left its section of the road and faced oncoming vehicles. In a twinkle of an eye, the drivers on the other lane sensing clear danger veered off the road for the menacing tanker. Mercifully there was no gully or any encumbrance by their side of the road, and they were lucky that the side they were on had a small pathway through which they could manoeuvre out of the path of danger, otherwise the tanker would have forced them into a gully, precipitating deaths, injuries and other tales of monumental tragedy. After some tense seconds, the tanker was maneuvered back to its proper side of the way by the driver. We had helplessly watched the near tragedy that was averted with trepidation. After some minutes, our driver managed to overtake the tanker and the cause of the near mishap became apparent. There were four people in the Driver’s cabin, three of who were fast asleep and the driver’s bloodshot eyes showed that he was struggling to stay awake. He was driving with one hand and using the other hand to rub his face with a substance we suspected to be aboniki or a similar ointment.

The fact is that the majority of the drivers of petrol tankers and other articulated vehicles barely have time to rest and are prone to committing avoidable errors on the road, leading to accidents and colossal tragedies. From investigation, some of them wait endlessly to be attended to at depots, ports and other rendezvous points where they take their consignments for onward delivery at designated places in other parts of the country. During the periods of waiting, they carouse all day and all night long, abusing alcohol and other drugs. And when they are attended to eventually and are ready to embark on their usually long journeys, they are often spent, mentally and physically. Of course they make stop overs at Ogere, Ibadan, Ile Ife, Akure, Owo, Ibilo, Okene, Lokoja, Onitsha, Umuhaia, Enugu, Minna, Eyenkorin, Sokoto, Bauchi and other major routes. But during the stopovers they barely take time to rest. It’s another opportunity for more carousing and endless banter with their colleagues and passersby. Without proper sleep or rest, they hit the road again. And to ensure that they keep up with their deadlines, they resort to the use of all sorts of energy drinks and enhancers, including alcohol and other dangerous beverages and drugs in order to, according to them, keep alert and stay awake. These impair their senses of judgment on the road and at times they simply sleep off on the wheel. They then become accidents waiting to happen and because of their states of physical exhaustion and metal incapacitation, such accidents, like the one that recently occurred on Lagos, have become a frequent occurrence.

The Lagos tragedy should be a wakeup call to the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) to reappraise its enforcement mechanisms of forestall such accidents. To be fair to the FRSC operatives, stopping the tanker drivers on the highway is a suicide mission. The moment the drivers sight the operatives or even road blocks mounted by security agents, they simply increase their speed and the operatives who dare to stop them then do so at their own peril. So it’s not enough for FRSC officials to flag down erring motorists or overspeeding tanker drivers on the highway. The time has come for a coordinated approach to put a stop to these avoidable carnage on our roads. It will not be out of place to begin a regime of examination of the state of tankers and other articulated vehicles and carrying out random test of drivers at loading bays, ports, depots and other point where they converge. The drivers should be tested for drugs and when it is discovered that they are mentally or physically impaired, they should be stopped from driving. The FRSC should also ensure that it enforces its policy on the compulsory installation of speed limiting device in these vehicles, to the letter. Only certified drivers and vehicles should be on the roads. Those who employ the drivers should also be more concerned with their physical and mental wellbeing and physical welfare. Some of the drivers are too young to drive, while some of them are also too old to drive. They should also be trained and retrained and taught the value of human lives. The governments at all levels should begin the comprehensive enforcement of all relevant laws and regulations relating to road safety and safe driving. And the work of rescuers and first responders are usually made more difficult by the intrusion of on lookers eager to capture such tragedies with their phone camera and post on the social media. Could we have less of such intrusion please!

We must all collectively work to make our roads safe and keep deaths, destruction and tragedies and of course moving time bombs off Nigerian roads.

Don’t Just Pray And Wail, Get Your PVC (See Details Here)

Don’t Just Pray And Wail, Get Your PVC

With barely less than 229 days to the commencement of the 2019 General Elections – a period of time when Nigerians are granted the “juicy prerogative” to elect new leaders or unseat incumbent rulers – the need to acquire the weapon to “choose your pick” has become very imperative.

While we have been getting lots of questions in recent weeks as to where and how to register to get the Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC), it is saddening that some Nigerians are yet to grasp the full power of the Voter’s card.

Here’s How To Obtain, Check Your Voters Registration Status Ahead Of 2019 Polls

The Permanent Voters Card (PVC) or Voter’s card is a registration card a voter obtains at the registration centre where he/she was registered as a voter. The card is used to identify citizens who can vote at an election.

While the country has been caught in the web of wanton killings, corruption, terrorism and poor governance among others, it is necessary for Nigerians to understand that to have a voice in whoever that takes over leadership in the country for the next four years (as from 2019) – from councillors to the president, they definitely must get their PVCs so as to vote their preferred candidates – who will either take them to the promise land or doom.

INEC PVC Registration Center
INEC PVC Registration Center (Premium Times)

Who is qualified to have a Voter’s Card?

  • He/she is a Nigerian citizen
  • He/she is 18 years and above
  • He/she is ordinarily resident in the ward or LGA where he intends to vote
  • He/she is not subject to any legal incapacity to vote under any law, rules, regulations in force in Nigeria

  • The Voter’s name
  • The name of the state the voter is registered in
  • The name of the LGA
  • The Registration Area/Centre and code
  • The voter’s Identification number

  • A person can register only once
  • At the ward or LGA where he: resides; or works in gainful employement or originates (ie an indigene)

For those who don’t have the PVC, here are the simple steps to acquiring it before the registration period ends:

1. All you have to do, as long as you’re a Nigerian above the age 18, is to show up at the nearest INEC LGA office with a valid means of identification like a birth certificate, a driver’s licence, national passport, or any other document that can prove identity, age and nationality. The exercise runs between 9am and 3pm, Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.

2. As soon as you’re done with the registration process, INEC will issue you a Temporary Voter’s Card (TVC) as a placeholder for when the permanent one will be ready.

3. When your PVC is ready, you can use the TVC to claim it at your INEC LGA office after your name has been verified on the distribution list.

You can verify your PVC status by checking if your name has been added to the voters’ register by checking the  “Voter Register Verification Platform” on the INEC website.

Here Are The 4 Major Means Of Identification In Nigeria

Real Madrid star Isco is reported to have rejected the chance to join Manchester United this summer.

That’s according to Don Balon, who claims United had submitted an ambitious £159m (€180m) offer for the Spain star in a bid to lure him to Old Trafford.

But it’s claimed Isco has rejected the move as he’s unwilling to play for Jose Mourinho, and feels his tactics would stifle his progress were he to move to Old Trafford.

It’s said Isco is all too aware of how the likes of flair players Anthony Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have seen their style stifled and believes he too could suffer should he join United.

The playmaker, however, is currently thinking about his future at Real Madrid and will sit down and chat with Julen Lopetegui after the World Cup to see how he sees him fitting into his side at the Bernabeu.

Serie A giants Roma have joined the race to sign Juventus and Liverpool target Mateo Kovacic, reports in Spain claim.

According to radio station Cadena Cope, the Romans are interested in acquiring Kovacic to bolster an already strong midfield.

The 24-year-old joined Real Madrid from Inter in the summer of 2015 for a fee of €29million, but he has been prevented from obtaining a regular starting berth by Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Casemiro.

Roma have already made nine signings this summer, including the impressive coups of Javier Pastora and Justin Kluivert.

Meanwhile, Spanish outlet Don Balon recently claimed that Jose Mourinho has instructed Manchester United to pay the €50m release clause to land Kovacic.
