“Fela Is The Greatest In Africa.. He’s More Famous Than Any Nigerian President,” Says Murray-Bruce

The senator representing Bayelsa east, Ben Murray-Bruce, has adjudged Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti as the greatest in Africa, adding that he is more famous than any president in the history of Nigeria.

TRENDING VIDEO: “Na Me Be Di President Of France” – Emmanuel Macron Speaks Pidgin English

Speaking with newsmen during French president, Emmanuel Macron’s visit to the New Afrika Shrine in Lagos, the senator described the late king of Afrobeat as the “greatest leader to come out of Africa”.

Murray-Bruce said: “Fela is an icon, the greatest in Africa. Fela is a tourist attraction. More people know Fela than the name of any president in the history of Nigeria. Fela is Mr tourism”.

The senator also stressed that Nigeria is “lucky” to have an “incredibly popular, great French leader” like Macron visit the New Afrika Shrine.

While urging leaders to emulate the French President, he questioned why Nigerian and African leaders don’t recognize Fela.

“All leaders should be like him because why should it take Macron to recognise Fela. Why can’t our leaders recognise Fela?” the senator asked.

The senator also urged all previous Nigerian governments to publicly apologise to the Kuti family and also write them a cheque as compensation for the “atrocities” committed against Fela.

“It has to be done because they need to be forgiven for the atrocities they committed,” he said.

“They burnt his house, killed his mother, broke his jaw, threw him in prison. Yes, they need to apologise. They have to acknowledge and then apologise.

“I want them to apologise, then write a cheque to Femi for killing his mother, breaking Fela’s jaw, locking him out.”

Ex-Newcastle United Coach Jailed For 20 Years For Sexually Abusing Boys For 25 Years

Ex-Newcastle United football coach jailed for 20 years for Sexually abusing boys For 25 Years

A former youth football coach who assisted with training at Newcastle United has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted of a string of sex abuse offences spanning 25 years.

George Ormond “used his position of power” to abuse 18 boys and young men between 1973 and 1998, Newcastle Crown Court heard.

The 62-year-old coached a grassroots football club in the 1970s and 1980s before going on to work for United’s youth system in the 1990s.

BBC reports that the Newcastle Crown Court heard he used his “position of power” to abuse 18 boys and young men between 1973 and 1998.

The accused was convicted of 35 charges of indecent assault and one of indecency as it was learnt that while he acted as a kit man at the premiership club in the 1990s, he used his trusted position in the football community to “groom and manipulate” boys and young men, the court heard.

Ormond, who the court was told has been living at temporary addresses in Gateshead, was cleared of two further charges following a six-week trial.

The jury was told Ormond “manipulated his position” and held out a “glittering future” to young players, but could block their progress if they stood up to him.

The Judge Edward Bindloss said Ormond must sign the sex offenders register for life, adding: “Evidence called in this trial showed that, over a 25 year period, George Ormond was a man wholly preoccupied with sex, who used his position as a respected football coach to target boys and young men in his care, to whom he was in a position of trust, to groom and manipulate and sexually assault.”

He added that it was clear some of the victims did not want to relive their terrible ordeals to a court full of strangers.

“No-one listening to this trial could fail to have been moved by the complainants and other witnesses, over six weeks of evidence, largely men in their 50s, largely from working class and sporting backgrounds, speaking with quiet, calm dignity about how they failed to understand what was happening to them and how, because of the times they lived in and the circumstances of their lives, meant they were unable to speak about it,” he said.

“Victim after victim” discussed the shame and embarrassment they live with so many years later, he added.

“Some of your victims, you said you didn’t even remember. What was for you momentary sexual gratification was, for your victims, a lifetime of difficulty.”

One victim said the offending left him a “broken man” and added: “Football was everything to me. This dream turned into a living nightmare.”

Others described the lifelong effects the sexual ordeals have had on their lives which included feelings of guilt for not speaking up sooner, shame and embarrassment.

APC: Nigeria’s Ruling Party Finally Breaks! Here’s All We Know About R-APC

The crisis in the All Progressives Congress (APC) took a new dimension on Wednesday, as the ruling party split, with a faction that called itself Reformed All Progressives Congress (rAPC) emerging under the leadership of Alhaji Buba Galadima – a former ally of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The r-APC, which consists of the aggrieved members of the APC under the leadership of former governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, had decided to pull out after it had claimed that the ruling party has failed Nigerians.

Galadima, who is the National Chairman of the Reformed APC, announced its formation at a news conference in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to him, the ruling party dashed the hope of many by running a “rudderless, inept and incompetent government”.

“You will recall that in the buildup to the 2015 general election, some political parties and groups came together, and formed a brand new political party, the All Progressives Congress, APC,” he said.

“This merger was based on the strong belief that Nigeria had come of age, but was severely underperforming and unable to meet its potentials for good governance. The Nigerian people entrusted power to the APC based on its promises and potentials.

“We are sad to report that after more than three years of governance, our hopes have been betrayed, our expectations completely dashed. The APC has run a rudderless, inept and incompetent government that has failed to deliver good governance to the Nigerian people. It has rather imposed dictatorship, impunity, abuse of power, complete abdication of constitutional and statutory responsibilities, infidelity to the rule of law and constitutionalism.

“It has failed to ensure the security and welfare of our people and elevated nepotism to unacceptable height. The APC has failed to deliver on its key promises to the nation. There is no evidence of any political will to reverse the decline of our party, while leaders who have created these circumstances continue to behave as if Nigerians owe our party votes as a matter of right.”

“The APC government, has been a monumental disaster, even worse than the government it replaced. The political party that was a vehicle for enthroning the government was rendered powerless by manipulations and complete lack of due process in its operations.”

“The last straw, was the congresses and convention of the APC held recently. The Congresses were intensely disputed as it was conducted with impunity, total disregard for due process, disregard for the party Constitution and naked display of power and practices that have no place in a party we all worked the very hard to put in place.”

Oshiomhole reacts

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has pleaded with the aggrieved members of the party to be patient with his leadership, in an apparent response to the emergence the Reformed APC (R-APC).

“My appeal to all those who are aggrieved is to be patient,” Mr Oshiomhole said.

“The assurance is that under my leadership, we will make honest mistakes and once our attention is drawn, we will find courage to make up for our mistake.

“Some people say how can people eat their words? For me, I will eat my words if it is nutritious enough and if that is what I have to do to have peace in the family.”

Why I Will Never Take Any Artiste To Court – Kennis Music Boss, Kenny Ogungbe Reveals

Featured Image

Veteran music business mogul, Kenny Ogungbe has addressed some matters arising in the Nigerian music industry.

In a recent interview with Nigerian Celebrity Armed Wrestling, the founder of Kennis Music revealed that talents are the major demands to make an artiste successful but nowadays, he hype has become more important due to the strong influence of social media and internet.

While speaking on the trends of record labels taking artistes to court, Kenny Ogungbe said, he would never take any artiste to court for anything.

In his words:

“Record label owners are taking legal actions against the artistes when they breach contracts, which is fine on a business concern.

But I can’t bother myself taking a Nigerian artiste to court because I am a leader in this industry. I am a pioneer, I started all this and I can’t be part of the people that built an industry and also break it.

If you are doing something wrong as my artiste, I will call you to order and advice you as an elder, father and a brother. But if you still insist on towing the part, I will just leave you”

Meanwhile, Kenny Ogungbe cleared the air on the hierarchy of artiste management when he was asked who is the boss between an artiste, the manager or financier;

“The artist is the boss of his manager because the artiste employed him. That’s the standard all over the world. If the artist is no longer satisfied with the service of the manager, he can fire him.

However, I must say that the position of an artist manager is an exalted one, a very glorious one. The financier, on the other hand, is who he is; he is the executive producer, he is the boss. The person who pays you is your boss.

He finances your talent because you can’t; he is your boss. Many of this artistes don’t even know this and they need to know.”

The Kennis Music boss went further to advise artistes to have respect industry. He Said;

“To have Respect is the only advice I will give to young artists. Majority of the successful artists you see shining now, let me not mention names, had nothing before they started.

The money came from the financier, it could be family members or parents, but once they attain a little success they start carrying their shoulders up. That’s a very wrong way of life. That person who helped you when you had nothing, respect that person.”

British Court Sentences Nigerian “Juju” Nurse To 14-Year Imprisonment For Sex Trafficking

A Nigerian-born British nurse, Josephine Iyamu, who was accused of using ‘juju’ to traffic Nigerian prostitutes to Europe, has been given a 14-year jail sentence at Birmingham Crown Court, UK.

Nigerian “Juju” Nurse Convicted Of Sex Trafficking In UK

Iyamu, formerly of South London, was said to have forced about five women to swear oaths to hand over money to her during “juju” ceremonies and also used a witch doctor to convince her victims they were under her control and exploited them to fund a lavish lifestyle that included trips to Europe and £700 designer shoes.

It was gathered that the 53-year-old woman, known as “Madame Sandra,” was a ringleader of an international human trafficking crime network.

Before she was sentenced, the court heard the women were forced to eat chicken hearts, drink blood containing worms, and have powder rubbed into cuts during the rituals.

During the sentencing, Judge Richard Bond said the 51-year-old had shown “a complete disregard for the welfare of these women”.

BBC quoted the judge as saying that she had exposed them to a “real and significant” risk of death as they travelled across the Mediterranean on inflatable boats.

All five women had be rescued from the boat they were on, before being put into a camp in Italy.

“Trafficking human beings is an ugly offence – it must always be dealt with severely by the courts to deter others from taking part in this vile trade,” he said.

“You showed a complete disregard for the welfare of these women. You saw them not as living, breathing human beings but as commodities to earn you large sums of money.”

ITALY

Juventus are ready to pay Cristiano Ronaldo’s €100m release clause – which is not valid for Spanish or English clubs plus Paris Saint-Germain – and offer the Portuguese a four-year contract worth €120m. The Bianconeri believe the financials add up because of the considerable commercial value Ronaldo would bring to the club if he signed. Juve are, however, mindful that Jorge Mendes could be using them as a mechanism to ensure a new contract for Ronaldo at the Bernabeu. (Gazzetta dello Sport/Tuttosport)

Juventus are also still pursuing Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata but need to sell Gonzalo Higuain to seal the deal. The uncertainty of Maurizio Sarri’s move to west London has delayed talks as the Premier League club will not make a decision until the new manager is in place. Juve believe they can raise €60m by selling Higuain but are also keen to include him in a part-exchange for Morata. (Gazzetta dello Sport)

Fabian Ruiz is to be confirmed by Napoli in the next 24 hours after the midfielder flew to Italy to undergo a medical. Napoli will pay Real Betis €30m for the Spain U21 international who scored three goals in 34 La Liga appearances last season. Valencia are keen to get the deal done this week as Gameiro returns for pre-season training. (Marca)

GERMANY

Bayern Munich are negotiating to sign Liverpool transfer target Benjamin Pavard, but the Stuttgart defender will not join the Bavarian giants until 2019. The 22-year-old has a release clause of €35m but it does not become active for another 12 months, with Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig also interested in the France international who can play all across the defence. Stuttgart’s sporting director Michael Reschke, former technical director at Bayern, has told all potential suitors that Pavard is not for sale this summer. (Sport Bild)

France coach Didier Deschamps has criticised Les Bleus winger Ousmane Dembele for the way he negotiated his move away from Borussia Dortmund last summer. Dembele effectively went on strike to force a transfer to Barcelona and Deschamps claims he let Dortmund, his team-mates and the national team down.
