#WorldCupWith360nobs: Taking Mesut Ozil To The World Cup Might Have Been A Mistake – Bierhoff

Featured Image

German Football Association general manager Oliver Bierhoff has admitted it could have been a mistake to take Mesut Ozil to the World Cup amid the controversy involving Turkey President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The day before the announcement of Germany’s preliminary squad, Ozil and Ilkay Gundogan had their picture taken with Erdogan during the president’s visit to London, sparking a barrage of criticism.

But while Gundogan published a statement on social media committing himself to “German values,” Ozil remained quiet throughout and became a topic of debate, and Bierhoff told Die Welt that as a result the federation should have handled the situation differently.

“I believe that the team wasn’t so bothered about the fact that Mesut and Ilkay were in the photos,” Bierhoff told the newspaper. “But the [media] debate just wouldn’t stop. In hindsight, I would have tried to deal with this issue in a more decisive manner.”

And Bierhoff said the controversy reached a point where the federation should have considered leaving Ozil out of the squad when the player declined to address the matter.

“We should have considered passing on him,” Bierhoff said. “We have never forced national team players to do something, but rather always tried to convince them.

“We failed to do that with Mesut. And thus, we should have considered to pass on him for sporting purposes.

Cristiano Ronaldo Transfer To Juventus Will Be ‘Good For Serie A’ – Kevin-Prince Boateng

Featured Image

Kevin-Prince Boateng says  Italian champions Juventus should be applauded if they succeed in bringing another star name to Serie A

Kevin-Prince Boateng was officially presented as a Sassuolo player on Friday afternoon.

Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly close to agreeing a switch to Juventus, but Sassuolo completed a major transfer coup of their own in signing Boateng from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Boateng joked that the Portuguese forward would therefore become the second big move into Serie A this summer — after him.

“You tell me whether it’s a joke or not, but for me, I’m serious [that Ronaldo would be one of two big transfers],” he said at a news conference in Sassuolo. “It would be very, very important for Italian football if he really did come, and Juve should be applauded if they manage [to get him].”

Boateng could give Ronaldo plenty of arguments for moving to Italy as he admits living in Il Bel Paese was his motivation behind returning for a third spell in Serie A after two previous stints at AC Milan.

“I feel at home in Italy, and this was the chance to move to a place near Milan, where my family also is,” he said. “I was able to leave Germany in a really positive way, as a [cup] winner, so it was the right way and the right moment to close the door behind me and open a new one.

“I was told the food is so great here too. Every single person I spoke with, when I said I might perhaps be moving to Modena, told me how great the food is, so much so that I had to say ‘I’m here to play football, not to open a restaurant!’”

Barcelona Set To Sign Arthur Melo From Gremio Earlier Than Expected

Featured Image

Barcelona are set to make their first signing of the summer after Gremio midfielder Arthur Melo confirmed he will join the club this month.

Barcelona and Gremio had originally agreed for a deal to be done in January, but a number of factors led the La Liga champions to fast-track the transfer.

Andres Iniesta’s decision to leave the club opened up a space in midfield, while Yerry Mina’s struggles to adapt after arriving last January have left Barcelona skeptical about another mid-season signing.

“Barcelona have asked to bring my arrival forward to this summer,” Arthur explained in a news conference on Friday.

“I did not participate in the negotiations, nor did I participate directly in my transfer — it has been a matter between the two clubs.

“I will probably travel to Barcelona this weekend. There are still details [to be finalised] but I’m very happy to be able to wear the shirt of the club I have always dreamed of playing for, the biggest club in the world.

“I have been told wonderful things about the club, the city and the fans. I have high expectations about the move.”

Wolves Make Bid For Manchester City’s Oleksandr Zinchenko

Featured Image

Wolves have made a club-record £16m offer for Manchester City’s Oleksandr Zinchenko, according to reports

OleksandrZincehnko made 16 appearances for City last season, eight in the Premier League to allow him to claim a medal as Pep Guardiola’s side romped to the title.

He spent the 2016-17 season on loan at PSV Eindhoven but struggled to make an impact and last season was a breakthrough year at the Etihad. But City appear willing to let him leave with Wolves ready to offer him more chances of first-team football.

With Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola closing in on the £60m signing of Riyad Mahrez, he is set to be well-stocked in terms of attacking talent.

Zinchenko will overtake Ruben Neves as the most expensive player in Wolves’ history.

Neves was a £15.8m signing last summer.

Mauro Zarate Joins Argentine Club Boca Juniors After Leaving Watford

Featured Image

Mauro Zarate has left Watford and returned to Argentina after signing with Boca Juniors for an undisclosed fee.

Mauro Zarate moved to Vicarage Road in January 2017, played just three games before suffering a serious knee injury the following month.

Zarate moved on loan to Al Nasr before returning to boyhood club Velez Sarsfield where he had looked set to turn his temporary stay permanent.

However, his decision to not sign for them and instead sign for Boca instead prompted a family row, with his brother Rolando, who is also the player’s agent, accusing him of “stabbing me in the back”.

“Mauro stuck a knife in my back. I am destroyed,” Rolando Zarate told Fox Sports Radio earlier this week. “He betrayed the whole family and the 40 years of history that we have with Velez.

“I want to cry. We were born at Velez, we grew up at Velez and my old man had worked for 40 years.”

Defending his character after moving to the Superliga champions, Zarate told the club website: “The Boca fans know me as a player. Maturity always helps and I have improved many things.

“Before, perhaps because I was young or had little experience, I made mistakes. They are things I do not repeat now.”

FIFA President Invites Thai Football Team Trapped In Cave To World Cup Final

Featured Image

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has invited the Thai boys’ football team trapped in a cave to the World Cup final, as messages of support poured in from top players.

Infantino said he hoped the Wild Boars team, who were stranded by rising floodwaters two weeks ago, would be rescued in time to watch the final on July 15 in Moscow, Russia.

In a special letter to the ehad of the Football Association of Thailand, the President of world football’s governing body wrote “If, as we all hope, they are reunited with their families in the coming days and their health allows them to travel, FIFA would be delighted to invite them to attend the 2018 World Cup final as our guests,”

“I sincerely hope that they will be able to join us at the final, which will undoubtedly be a wonderful moment of communion and celebration.”

The footballers, aged between 11 and 16 have been stuck in darkness deep underground after setting off to explore the cave with their 25-year-old coach after training on June 23.

The players remain trapped despite being reached this week by cave-diving rescuers, who released footage of them looking emaciated but calm, some wearing football shirts.

The Croatian Football Federation on its website said it was “awed” by the team’s calm under pressure. “We are awed by the bravery and strength that these young boys and their coach have shown amidst such frightening circumstances,” it wrote.

Saraki Triumph As Supreme Court Dismisses False Assets Declaration Charges Against Him

Saraki Triumph As Supreme Court Dismisses False Assets Declaration Charges Against Him

The Supreme Court on Friday finally dismissed the trial of a Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, on assets declaration and sundry charges instituted against him before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

A five-man panel of the apex court led by Justice Centus Nweze unanimously upheld Saraki’s appeal, by dismissing the remnant three counts, declaring the evidence led by the prosecution as hearsay.

Senator Saraki had filed an appeal at the apex court to challenge the ruling of the Court of Appeal which asked the CCT to try him on three of the 18 counts brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Umar Danladi-led CCT had in June 2017, terminated the trial and dismissed the entire 18 counts charges preferred against Saraki.

But during the delivery of judgment on Saraki’s appeal against the decision of the Court of Appeal, the apex court held that the prosecution failed to call material witnesses to support its case against the Senate President.

It agreed that all those who have knowledge of facts were not called to testified in the matter and held that those who tendered documentary evidence against Saraki during the trial were not makers of the document, hence, their evidence on the documents were hearsay and lacked probative value.

The Supreme Court also held that the Court of Appeal made a caricature of its judgment when it found as a fact that the entire evidence presented by the prosecution was hearsay and manifestly unreliable and still went ahead to agree that prima facie case was established against the Senate President in three out of the 18 charges.

Justice Nweze the ruled that there was no basis for the Court of Appeal to have asked Saraki to defend himself on the three charges, having found the entire evidence of the prosecution as a product of hearsay,

He added that the action of the Court of Appeal amounted to forensic summersault and capable of making Ill of jurisprudence.

“This court will not lend its jurisdiction to such a charade and caricature of justice. It carries grave error in holding that a prima facie case has been established against the appellant,” the court held.

“The prosecution is duty bound by law to call all key witnesses to be able to establish prima facie case against anybody,” it added.

In all, the five-panel of the apex court in the unanimous judgment agreed that the failure of the Federal Government to call vital witnesses in the trial of Saraki was fatal and rendered the trial nugatory.

Runtown Denies Eric Many’s Breach Of Contract Allegations (Read Official Statement)

Featured Image

After several series of legal tussles and fracas, Runtown finally broke silence on several claims by Eric Many Records that he breached a recording contract with the label.

In a recent official statement released by Runtown, the “Mad Over You” crooner denied being indebted to Eric Many Records as he officially end ties with the record label.

Read Official Statement Below:-

July 4, 2018 – For Immediate Release – Effective June 22, 2018, the music artist Runtown, also known as Soundgod, shall and is no longer affiliated with Eric Many, Ltd., Eric Many Entertainment, Incorporated, or any of it’s affiliates, associates, agents, assigns or subsidiaries.

Runtown is now exclusively managed and represented by Soundgod Music Group.

Despite numerous breaches of the Recording Agreement by Eric Many, which would make it invalid and unenforceable, the Agreement entered into on June 21, 2016 officially came to an end on June 22, 2018.

Pursuant to Section 6.5 of the Agreement, “The Parties agree[d] that the Artist is and remains the owner and lawful proprietor of the Professional Name and the Artist’s likeness.” Eric Many was only entitled to use the name Runtown throughout the duration of the contract, and for a period after termination of the contract for the promotion and sale of music.

Eric Many does NOT own the name “Runtown” or “Soundgod,” and is NOT entitled to trademark, copyright or use the name without the explicit consent and approval of the artist. Public use of the name Runtown began in 2008, before the signing of any contract with Eric Many.

Further, there is NO court order currently enjoining or preventing Runtown from singing, performing or recording music. Please be advised that the interim injunction granted by the High Court of FCT against Runtown on 10 May 2018, has now expired by effluxion of time pursuant to Order 43 Rule 3(2) of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja (Civil Procedure) Rules 2018. The said injunction became ineffective on the 17th of May, 2018.

To date, Eric Many has filed two frivolous law suits against Runtown. On May 24, 2018, Eric Many withdrew the initial frivolous lawsuit it filed in Lagos, Nigeria after realizing its claims could never be proven. The Lagos court ordered Eric Many to pay Runtown’s costs associated with that suit.

Interestingly, instead of adding any new claims to the Lagos suit, Eric Many filed a new law suit in Abuja, Nigeria, while the first law suit in Lagos was still pending. The second lawsuit abandoned all of the claims made in the first law suit, and claimed that Runtown owed an unconscionable amount of money to the record label. Eric Many has yet to show any reliable proof or records of its claims. Instead it has only provided Runtown with a loosely composed accounting that shows fraudulent figures, unsubstantiated expenses and zero financial responsibility on the part of the record label.

In short, the record label placed all financial responsibilities, including the costs of all travel, regular business expenses and even legal fees of the label on Runtown. All expenses of running the record label were charged to the artist, which is a clear breach of the recording agreement that requires the label to shoulder such costs.

Runtown filed suit against Eric Many in New York for breach of contract, unpaid royalties and defamation. On May 25, 2018, the New York State Supreme Court Judge ordered Eric Many to continue to pay royalties to Runtown for the distribution of his music in the United States. Eric Many is in violation of that order, having paid Runtown nothing since February 1, 2018.

We are confident that after this matter is properly litigated in Nigeria and the United States, it will become evident that Eric Many did not only breach the recording agreement severally and abuse its power, but that it has been fully reimbursed for its initial investment and is currently indebted to Runtown for unpaid royalties and revenue. One cannot seek relief from the same contract which it has repeatedly breached.

Runtown is not in the business of breaking contracts. We want to assure all fans and supporters that for as long as God shall allow, Runtown is and will continue to be focused on making, sharing and performing good music worldwide.

“Start Collecting Rents In Arrears” – Fashola Tells All Nigerian Landlords

Featured Image

Fashola informs landlords to collect rents in arrears

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has informed all landlords in the country to start collecting rents in arrears as from today, July 6, 2018.

Speaking on Thursday, on the theme, ‘Innovative housing finance model as a catalyst for home ownership,’ at an event for real estate operators in Abuja, the minister disclosed that property owners across the country should understand the plights of the low-income earners, The Punch reports.

While advocating the payment of rents after each month, as against what is obtainable across the country currently, the minister appealed to homeowners to be considerate.

He argued that salary earners, who could afford to pay rents, were not receiving their salaries in advance, but in arrears.

The minister sought that there should be a landlord-tenant-employer’s relation, whereby the landlord reaches an agreement with the tenant’s employer to ensure the rent is deducted on a monthly basis from the tenant’s salary.

His words: “If you ask me to go and bring in advance one year’s rent from what I’m going to earn monthly in arrears, how feasible is that?

“Even my salary as a minister is paid at the end of every month, not even at the beginning; then you the landlord is now asking me to bring next year’s salary, and we’re complaining that there’s corruption.

“I tried to intervene as a governor, passing the resolution to our own council in Lagos then, but the outcome was not peaceful, because there were landlords in our midst.”

“Those who get paid weekly, pay their rents weekly; those who get paid monthly, pay monthly rents.”

“I believe this meeting is about the critical mass of Nigerians, the taxi drivers, market men and women who earn their money daily and are not even sure of making any revenue for that day. Meanwhile, landlords expect advance payments.”

Fashola charged all landlords in the country, starting from Friday, July 6, 2018, “to agree to take one month rent in arrear,” noting that the payment pressure on the side of the tenant would be reduced in 12 months.

Buhari Declares Emergency On Corruption, Signs Order Denying Alleged Criminals Access To Assets Under Probe

President Muhammmadu Buhari on Thursday, July 5, declared a national emergency on corruption, even as he signed an executive order seeking to restrain owners of assets under probe from carrying out further transactions on such properties.

The president, who spoke at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja while signing Executive Order No.6 of 2018 on the Preservation of Assets Connected with Serious Corruption and Other Relevant Offences, said he decided to assent the order so as to stop owners of the assets from using their proceeds to pervert justice.

Buhari further declared a national emergency on corruption, challenging institutions, agencies and individuals to reverse the negative culture of pilfering public funds.

His words: “Like I have said many times, if Nigeria does not kill corruption, corruption will sooner-or later kill Nigeria.’’

“It has thus become necessary to re-kit and re-tool our arsenal to be able to effectively tackle corruption’s perilous counter-attack against the Nigerian state. Accordingly, the federal government of Nigeria has declared a national emergency to deal with that crisis.”

“In this regard, the federal government of Nigeria in line with its anti-corruption strategy seeks to ensure that justice is not defeated or compromised by persons involved in a case or complaint of corruption.”

“Whilst there are many reasons why Nigeria has been struggling; regrettably, the most unfortunate cause of great disparity between Nigeria’s wealth and its poverty is endemic corruption.”

“It is in consequence of this that I have decided to issue the Executive Order No. 6 of 2018 to inter alia restrict dealings in suspicious assets subject to investigation or inquiry bordering on corruption in order to preserve such assets from dissipation, and to deprive alleged criminals of the proceeds of their illicit activities which can otherwise be employed to allure, pervert and/or intimidate the investigative and judicial processes.”

“Or for acts of terrorism, financing of terrorism, kidnapping, sponsorship of ethnic or religious violence, economic sabotage and cases of economic and financial crimes, including acts contributing to the economic adversity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and against the overall interest of justice and the welfare of the Nigerian state.”

Ronaldo On The Verge To Join Juventus | Real Madrid Stunned!

Featured Image

Real Madrid stunned as Ronaldo agrees to join Juventus

There are strong indications that Cristiano Ronaldo could be on the verge of joining Italian giant Juventus in an £88million transfer but his parent club Real Madrid don’t seem excited about the rumour.

The Spanish club, it was gathered, have been left shocked by Ronaldo’s decision to leave the European champions to join Juventus, having already reached an agreement over a four-year contract worth €30 million (£26.5m/$35m) per season with the Italian outfit.

Goal is reporting that while the 33-year-old is close to completing a move to the Serie A side, Juventus still have to negotiate a fee with Madrid and are expected to have to pay upwards of €100m (£88m/$117m), but could go as high as €120m (£106m/$140.5m).

Although the prospect of the Portugal star leaving the Santiago Bernabeu outfit has only increased since he indicated he wanted to leave after his side beat Liverpool to win a third consecutive Champions League final, those in charge at Madrid have only recently started to take it seriously.

But Ronaldo is closer than ever to leaving and the Bianconeri are confident of landing a player they tried to sign from Sporting CP when he was 18 years old, only to see the move collapse because Marcelo Salas, offered in exchange for him, rejected the move to Portugal.

It is understood that in 2002, former Juventus scout Gianni Di Marzio was tasked with working up a report on a young Ronaldo.

After watching the 18-year-old winger in action for Sporting Lisbon, Juventus were keen on bringing him to Turin.

The deal was so far down the line that Ronaldo had even flown to Italy with his mother and undergone a medical.

“I made a report on Cristiano and went to watch him play for Sporting against Belenenses,” Di Marzio told La Repubblica.

“I spoke to the kid and to his mother and the following day both of them were in Turin, where he underwent a medical. But in the end it didn’t come together.”

A year later and the talented Portuguese winger joined Manchester United where he spent six seasons before sealing a world record £80million move to Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has since indicated his unhappiness at not being protected very well at Madrid.

Trouble started last summer when a prominent newspaper reported his desire to leave amid his issues with the Spanish tax authorities, which he has agreed to settle with a €18.8 million (£16m/$22m) payoff.

The situation got worse as Ronaldo had a rough start to the season while Madrid were constantly reported to be looking for replacements for him.

The Spanish club had to release statements denying reports they had made offers for Paris Saint-Germain stars Neymar and Kylian Mbappe .

CAF appoints Amaju Pinnick as first vice president

President of the Nigeria Football Federation Amaju Melvin Pinnick was on Thursday, July 5, appointed as the first Vice-President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The position became vacant after erstwhile President of the Ghana Football Association Kwesi Nyantakyi resigned from office in June following an undercover exposition of corrupt practices in the GFA.

Nyantakyi resigned from hid post following a two-year ban from all football activities over corruption allegation and other malpractices.

In a statement signed by CAF’s Secretary General, Amr Fahmy, and sent to all of Africa’s football associations, CAF said:

“Following the resignation of the First Vice President, Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi, CAF President, after consulting the members of the Emergency Committee, appointed Mr. Amaju Melvin Pinnick, as first vice president.

“The decision is immediately applicable, in accordance of the statutes, which will be ratified by the executive committee in its session scheduled on the 27 and 28 of September 2018.”

“We thank you for kindly taking note.”

Pinnick is currently serving as match commissioner at the on-going FIFA World Cup in Russia, where he is scheduled to handle one of the quarterfinals, a semifinal game and the third-place match.

He is currently in charge of the St. Petersburg centre of the World Cup.

Buhari’s Jihad On ‘Herds-Media’ – Fredrick Nwabufo

Have you ever wondered what happened to Naij.com – the popular online news platform? Buhari happened to it.

During the whirling of the IPOB turbulence, Naij.com published rare exclusive reports on Nnamdi Kanu. The reports were mostly free of affectations – not embellished, which is permissible in the practice of journalism. But the government found them offensive.

This piece was written by Fredrick Nwabufo. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

The reports unsettled the President Muhammadu Buhari government, which through the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), shut down the online operation of the news platform in the interest of “national security”.

Naij.com had to mutate to Naija.ng to remain a business concern.

A popular columnist was effectively disengaged from an official assignment a night before the event for criticising the government’s branding of IPOB as a terrorist organisation. A few other writers have had their columns suspended by newspapers owing to threats by the government.

Even TheCable, a foremost online newspaper, has not been spared of attacks despite its unbiased and middle-ground approach to reporting. A few months ago, the website of the newspaper was hacked and shut down for a few days after it published a series of reports of corruption in the handling of the Abacha loot by the office of the attorney-general of the federation.

I strongly believe the Buhari government’s onslaught on the media is deliberate and targeted at crushing the last phalanx of check, and perhaps opposition.

The government has reduced the national assembly to a broken cymbal, and the PDP, which should naturally play the obverse role, is destitute of moral capacitance for opposition. With the media as the only institution of check, the government is desperate to extirpate it to garland its path to tyranny.

What could explain the recent tagging of newspapers (online and offline) dispassionately reporting the killings by herdsmen as “herds-media”? I believe this is an attempt to profile and stigmatise media houses doing the bounden duty of reporting objectively just like every public figure who opposes the government is tagged “looter” and “corrupt”.

An editor of a national newspaper told me that the government asked all media houses to stop tagging the killers in the north-central region as “Fulani herdsmen”, but as bandits. He said he asked them, “But these killers are Fulani and herdsmen? And the militants in the south-south are called Niger Delta militants?”

The editor said he was told the opposition would exploit the ethnicity of the killers to blackmail the president, and that it was in the interest of “national security”. This clearly reflects the thinking of the government – every issue is pickled in a political jar of sour sauce.

The media must not fall to the caprices, intimidation and harassment of the government. It survived brutal military regimes, it will survive Buhari. It is the last frontier of the masses.
