3 Northern Governors, 30 Senators, 70 Reps’ Members On The Verge To Dump APC For PDP

There are strong indications that about three governors in Northern Nigeria elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are heading to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) any moment from now.

NOW TRENDING: PDP, R-APC, 37 Others Join Forces To Unseat Buhari In 2019

TheCable reports that apart from the governors, close to 30 senators and 70 members of the House Of Representatives are expected to follow suit before the national assembly goes on recess in the next two weeks.

It is understood that those who will be dumping the ruling party are members of the “reformed” faction of APC that recently emerged.

While most of them were in the PDP before defecting to APC under the aegis of “new PDP” in 2013, the news outlet also claims that Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State and Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State are in the “first batch” of big guns expected to defect.

APC: Nigeria’s Ruling Party Finally Breaks! Here’s All We Know About R-APC

It quoted an insider as saying this on Monday.

“The plan also is that some APC governors will not defect but will remain behind to inflict maximum damage on the party from within,” a southern governor informed the online newspaper yesterday.

“Tambuwal is alleged to harbour a presidential ambition while Ahmed, who is coming to the end of his second term in Kwara, is expected to run for the senate.”

“Ortom, on his own part, has been guaranteed safe return to the PDP by Senator David Mark. He is considered the best bet in the circumstance as the incumbent governor, and he can leave the party to George Akume,” another insider, who attended some of the strategy sessions, said.

Senate President Bukola Saraki is also expected to return to the PDP and is reported to be nursing a presidential ambition — bolstered by the recent Supreme Court judgment which freed him of criminal charges over allegations of false asset declaration.

Third Mainland Bridge To Be Closed On Thursday For Repairs

The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mr. Adedamola Kuti, said on Tuesday that consultations had begun for the closure of the Third Mainland Bridge for repairs.

Kuti told the News Agency of Nigeria that the ministry of works was going to hold a meeting with stakeholders on Wednesday to discuss how to manage traffic during the repairs.

He, however, did not specify the exact date the bridge would be closed to traffic or how long the repair works would last.

According to him, stakeholders attending the meeting to discuss the repairs include traffic regulatory agencies, transport unions, truck owners, drivers’ unions, and law enforcement agents, among others.

“The Federal Executive Council has approved the maintenance work on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State.

“The project has taken off already and in carrying out the work, we may, at certain times, be shutting down the bridge for maintenance.

“At the moment, we may begin with tests on the bridge; so, we may shut it by 12 midnight on Thursday and carry out tests and some repairs and open it to traffic by midnight on Sunday.’’

He said that six other damaged bridges across the state were already undergoing maintenance and rehabilitation.

“We have contracts on maintenance of some of the bridges in Lagos. We are completing maintenance work on the expansion joints on the Coconut Bridge.

“We expecting the contractor to start work on the Independence Bridge in Lagos.

“There is repair work going on currently on the Apapa Bridge, that is, Ijora/Leventis Bridge.

“Maintenance work is ongoing on the Ijora-7up Bridge. We are also changing the expansion joints.

“On the bridge around the National Stadium area, we are putting covers to all the stolen manholes, we are replacing the steel covers from Sstadium to Costain,” he said.

Chimamanda Aims Another Dig At Men – “I’m Sorry For Them, They Can’t Have Babies”

Chimamanda Says She “Feels Sorry For Men Because They Can’t Have Babies”

Popular Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, has aimed another thinly-veiled dig at the masculine gender, after she said that she “feels sorry for men because they can’t have the experience of giving birth.”

The well celebrated author, who is known for stirring controversies with her viewpoints, made this known during a recent interview with online entertainment publication, Vulture, where she spoke about how motherhood has affected her writing career.

(VIDEO): ‘A Powerful Media Man’ Sexually Assaulted Me At Age 17 — Chimamanda Adichie

Her statement also comes barely less than a month after she set Twitter users against each other after she shared one of her personal views and “at that time,” she said she has a problem with men holding doors for women.

But in her recent interview, she said becoming a mother opened up “a new emotional plane” that has contributed to her art positively.

She said: “I used to think I wouldn’t be a good mother because I was so dedicated to my art,”

“I said to myself, I have nephews and nieces who I adore, and I helped raise them, so those will be my children. That’s what I thought for a long time, because I felt that I couldn’t be true to both my art and my child.

“Getting older. I like to joke and say that you’re ready [to have a child] when your body isn’t ready, and when your body is ready, you’re not mentally ready.

“I guess you have the best eggs when you’re, like, 22, but at 22 you don’t even know yourself.

“Then when you’re 38 and know yourself, your eggs are not the best quality. Anyway, we’ll talk about eggs another time.”

“But my baby happened, and it’s important to talk honestly about this, because having her changed a lot,” she said.

“Having a child gets in the way of writing. It does. You can’t own your time the way you used to.

“But the other thing that motherhood does — and I kind of feel sorry for men that they can’t have this — is open up a new emotional plane that can feed your art.”

Royal Wedding Singer James Francis Releases “Free to be Me”

Featured Image

Inspired by his experiences of singing with the Kingdom Choir at the Royal Wedding, James Francis releases his own positive message into the charts.

Just a couple of weeks after singing with the Kingdom Choir at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Royal Wedding, aspiring solo artist James Francis will release his new single ‘Free to be Me’ on the 8th of June.

‘Free to be Me’ is the second single from singer-songwriter James Francis and producer Chris Morris. Recorded in London, the song fuses funk, soul, jazz, and hip-hop topped off with a fiery vocal performance dripping with emotion and conviction. The song’s powerful message of being comfortable in your own skin comes from James’ personal experience of being boxed into limiting stereotypes.

With lyrics like ‘won’t sacrifice all my dreams to be who you want me to be’ Free to Be Me unashamedly celebrates individuality and confidence in your own identity – A theme the Royal couple poignantly displayed at their wedding.

James first single ‘Want It All’ which was released in August 2017, was nominated for a Jump Music Video Award. His recent performances include tours with chart-topping UK artist JP Cooper, and shows at the Royal Albert Hall with Josh Groban. His soulful vocals also feature in TV adverts for Tesco and The Great British Bake Off.

Directed by award-winning director Tyler Chalk, the video was filmed on a quiet residential road in Primrose Hill, London. The bright colors and iconic Victorian architecture are both a reflection of James’ quirky personality and his pride in being a born and bred Londoner.

James hopes Free to Be Me will see similar success to his Choirs’ Royal Wedding performance which has already reached no 7 in the iTunes charts. Free to Be Me is a feel-good anthem for all and it is now available on all major digital platforms.

Obasanjo Ambushes Soyinka On Olumo Rock – Tunde Odesola

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

Humanity oscillates between extreme opposites; darkness paints the beauty of light; fear skirts the periphery of bravery; ugliness envies beauty; falsehood stalks truth, death ambushes life; good wrestles evil; all in an everlasting tussle. And science cements this eternal truth into reality, combining negative and positive poles to produce light.

This piece was written by Tunde Odesola. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

The ubiquitous beauty of social media is also its blight. Social media, a nonphysical marketplace of ideas where information is served online among human communes, is a bittersweet leveller. It’s the color-blind arena where the walls of difference separating the rich and the poor; the young and the old; the literate and the illiterate; the weak and the powerful, are pulled down to kindle seamless social interaction.

I trod the online space some few days ago and a roar jangled my eardrums. The rumble shattered the time-worn witty saying, “Egba meji o j’ara won niyan,” meaning: two Egba indigenes don’t quarrel. But last week, the white-mane lion of letters, Oluwole Soyinka, attacked the Ebora Owu (Gnome of Owu), Olusegun Obasanjo. The Nobel laureate advised Obasanjo to desist from struggling to restore Nigeria to the path of sanity, urging the Ota farmer to head for a monastery for purgation, instead.

Though both prominent octogenarians are from the same Egba community of Abeokuta, where they grew up, age hasn’t thawed their icy relationship. Soyinka’s mother, Eniola, was the daughter of Rev. Canon J. J. Ransome-Kuti, and sister in-law to Mrs Olufunmilayo Kuti, the mother of the late Afrobeat great, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. Although conjoined to his art, Soyinka’s political activism propelled him in 1965 to seize the Western Nigerian Broadcasting Service studio, Ibadan, and force a broadcast of the demand for a cancellation of the rigged western Nigerian regional election about to be announced. Predictably, the election turned out to be the bloodiest in the country’s history. Both the laureate and the three-time Nigerian ruler, Obasanjo, an Army General, have always been locked in a battle of wits as far back as 1967 when Soyinka described the Nigerian Civil War as a pogrom. At great personal risk, Soyinka secretly visited Enugu in 1967 when the clouds of war were about bursting into flaming rains. Soyinka dialogued with the charismatic Igbo leader, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, on the need to nip the impending war in the bud. Obasanjo, who fought on the side of Nigeria against the Igbo in the 30-month bloodbath, however, believes that the Biafran agitation for self-rule was treasonable.

Baba Iyabo tops the list of men most favored by Nigeria’s political dynamics. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan ranks second on the list. Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo is also prominent on the list. With military discipline and self-motivation, Obasanjo, whose parents were nobodies, rose from nothingness to excel in the Army and lead Nigeria for 11 years as military head of state and civilian president. By providence, Obasanjo it was, to whom Biafra surrendered on January 12, 1970, ending the Civil War. Religious, Obasanjo is a Baptist, who recently bagged a PhD in Theology. Spiritual, Soyinka sees Ogun, the Yoruba god of Iron, as a pathway to a better understanding of humanity, underlining Ogun’s creative force as an ironsmith, and his destructive force when seeking justice.

If the Ebora Owu and the Eni Ogun meet on top of Olumo Rock, here’s what’s likely to transpire:

Ebora: (Pele, Wole) Hi, Wole! I knew a day like this would come when we shall meet face to face, alone.

Ogun: Aremu, tani egbe e? Clearly, your parasitic happenstance in political leadership has vitiated your sense of respect. You call me Wole? Is 1934 the same as 1937?

Ebora: Ha, sorry o. (Igbawo lo ma ge wigi e yi?) When are you cutting this your wig?

Ogun: When you desist from corruption, deceit, vainglory and distractive powwowing!

Ebora: Ha! Powwowing ke? Wole has come again o, Mr Dictionary!

Ogun: It’s meet I give you a verbal hiding to exorcise the demons torturing your putrid being. You’re the very grief of this country.

Ebora: You nko?

Ogun: Me? Did I oversee the treacherous impeachments of Senate Presidents Evan Enwerem, Chuba Okadigbo and Ken Nnamani? I neither sought third term nor enthrone brigandage as state policy which saw the dehumanization of sitting Governor Ngige and the annihilation of Odi. Go and look at my records when I oversaw the FRSC. What light did you provide Nigerians with after guzzling billions of dollars? Did I corral people in government and the private sector to build a personal library for me? Your party was a nest of killers, Bola Ige was killed, and his killers weren’t arrested…

Ebora: Dake jo! Stop all that nonsense! Look at his biabia! I should’ve sent you to jail when I was president! You’re talking big grammar like Zebrudaya, abi? Who’s the great grandfather of cultism in Nigeria? Do you know how many people cultism has killed in this country? In fact, you should be tried for genocide, you killer!

Ogun: (E ma wo were yi!) Look at this madman! Your claim to knowledge through your recently purchased Oshodi PhD is hereby exposed. In your depth of debilitating ignorance, you didn’t know that confraternities are part of university culture? In the dawn of our youth, six other visionary youths and I, at the University College, Ibadan, formed the Pyrates Confraternity in 1952 to fight societal ills. Did you ever hear about cult killing during my years in the university? Why should I be held responsible for the violence in tertiary institutions arising from your misgovernment? When you polluted the education system, and violence became the order of the day, I stopped Pyrates from operating in tertiary institutions. When splinter groups emerge years after and began unleashing terror, should I be held responsible? The National Association of Seadogs is a responsible organization.

Ebora: Shut up there, killer! You didn’t form a football club; it’s a cult that you could form. And you’re here making a noise like a misfiring generator. Even if you had inaugurated a beauty pageant, it would’ve been better. You can’t blame campus violence on me, Oluwole the cultist!

Ogun: I sure can, Aremu the zombie! Weren’t you the one at the helm when Nigerian university students were killed in UNILAG and ABU in 1978 during the Ali-Must-Go riots? Wasn’t that the beginning of campus violence in Nigeria? Ashewo, beauty pageant ko, beauty detergent ni.

Ebora: (Laughing, he bites at his bitter kola, clears his throat) (Wole, o gbadun) Wole, you’re sick. Did you hear me complain when you made all your accusations against me? I gave you just a small teargas, you went berserk. I‘m going to shave your wig today! (Laughs)

Ogun: So, you know?

Ebora: Know what?

Ogun: That if your leprosy hands touch my hair, you’ll be made whole.

Ebora: There he goes again, arrogant Capon Seadog! Black white man!

Ogun: Aloku soja! Useless ex-soldier, if my words can’t penetrate your waxed ears, read my lips: the greatest hallmark of existence is giving your all to humanity and your spiritual essence.

Ebora: Ignorance kills the cat. You can give your all in teaching and among your seadogs, not in Nigerian politics. I was military head of state and civilian president. I know better. The society gets the leaders it deserves. I heard you tore your Green Card. How more stupid can you be, Wole? You’re too impulsive.

Ogun: Impulsiveness is a virtue needed to needle government into action where wastefulness, inaction, corruption and injustice roam.

Ebora: Zebrudaya, tell your friend, Buhari, that he’s going back to Daura in 2019.

Ogun: Were you not in the country when I told him he’s treating herdsmen killings with kid gloves and that he should stop venerating Abacha?

Ebora: Na you sabi, Professor Ahoy!

Ogun: Jazz away, you little-minded lubber or I skin you!

Policeman, Soldier, Lecturer, 97 Other Nigerian Christians Absconded During Pilgrimage In Israel

Policeman, Soldier, Lecturer, 97 Other Nigerian Christians Absconded During Pilgrimage In Israel

The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Tor Uja, has said 100 Christian pilgrims absconded during the 2017 pilgrimage to Israel.

Mr Uja, who made this known while receiving security report of the 2017 pilgrimage on Monday in Abuja, said that no pilgrim absconded in Rome and Greece.

The NCPC boss said that the 100 pilgrims who absconded were from five states in Nigeria, adding that a serving soldier, a police inspector and a lecturer were among the absconders.

He, however, did not disclose the states and names of the absconders, but tagged the states as “red flag”.

He said pilgrims absconded during pilgrimage as a result of their colonial mindset.

He explained that as part of the efforts of the commission to check pilgrims from absconding, the commission has decided to increase the security surveillance during pilgrimage.

Mr Uja said that Nigeria was a nation of future while explaining that the coming together of Nigeria was beyond what the colonialists conceived.

He said the coming together was an act of God.

He stressed that one of the major responsibilities Nigerian government has for its citizens was to provide adequate security.

As a part of the commission’s strategy to check defection of pilgrims while in the Holy Land, he explained that NCPC would intensify its screening mechanism to bring defection to an end.

Mr Uja revealed that the commission has come up with stringent measures that would discourage pilgrims from absconding, such measures as black listing states with penchant for abscondment, publishing the names of absconders and their guarantors in national newspapers, and prosecuting them eventually.

He urged Nigerians and particularly the youth to have confidence in the country.

He explained that Christian pilgrimage under his leadership is focused on three aspects which are enhancing the spiritual content of pilgrimage, using pilgrimage to showcase the great beauty and capacity that Nigeria has and using Christian pilgrimage to promote national development.

He said the forum would make Christians go on pilgrimage and come back as better persons.

“It is time to build this country and to give it foundation; it is time to give this country a character; it is time to give this country a vision and a hope.

“It is time to make Nigerians to know that our land is a land of great opportunities.

“We have more opportunities in Nigeria than in America and in Israel.

“We have better land than anywhere else, what we are going to get is a revitalisation to meet with the Lord Jesus Christ afresh and to have a revamping of our spiritual lives.

Mr Uja commended the security committee for a job well done, adding that he would invite them to educate the commission on its observations and recommendation.

He called on the church in Nigeria to be steadfast in prayers for the nation and to provide leadership.

Earlier, Emmanuel Nega, a major general and chairman of the committee, said security is the most important aspect of the commission.

Mr Nega said that the committee was inaugurated to ensure the security of pilgrims to the holy land.
