#WorldCupWith360nobs: France 4 Vs 2 Croatia – France Are The World Cup Champions

Featured Image

France are the Champions of the 2018 World Cup courtesy of a 4-2 victory over Croatia in a very entertaining final at the Luzhniki Stadium.

The 2018 World Cup Final had a bit of everything – an own goal, a controversial VAR-awarded penalty and an embarrassing goalkeeping howler – making it the joint second highest scoring final

Croatia striker Mario Mandzukic’s scored a rather unfortunate own goal to give France the lead, but Ivan Perisic restored parity 10 minutes later to give Croatia a deserved equaliser.

Antoine Griezmann’s contentious spot kick – which was awarded by referee Nestor Pitana after a lengthy VAR deliberation – put France back in front going into half time, and goals from Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe effectively wrapped up the victory in the second half.

A Hugo Lloris error which saw him gift Mandzukic a goal almost handed Croatia a route back into the match with just over 20 minutes remaining, but France saw the game out to repeat their heroics of 1998 and become only the sixth team to have won the trophy more than once.

Mario Mandzukic became the first player to ever score an own goal in a World Cup final

France vs Croatia: All Is Set For The 2018 FIFA #WorldCupFinal | See Full Details

After a month of dramatic and breath-taking football, with 32 teams whittled down to just two, the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow will today play host to France and Croatia in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Final as the two teams lock horns in an attempt to get their hands on the most prestigious trophy in World football.

France will head into the Moscow final as heavy favourites, having eased past Argentina, Uruguay and Belgium to get here. But don’t be quick to write off Croatia as it has done it the hard way by beating Denmark and Russia on penalties and England in extra-time.

WHEN IS IT?

Kick-off is at 4pm (Nigerian time) on Sunday, July 15. That’s 6pm local time if you’re in Russia.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

France:

Kylian Mbappe

Kylian Mbappe

For the French side, Kylian Mbappe is the key player as his performance so far has set tongues wagging all tournament. The 19-year-old striker, who joined French giant Paris Saint-Germain on a whopping $295 million transfer fee from Monaco, became the second-youngest player to find the back of the net at a World Cup after Brazilian legend Pele, and has scored three goals for the tournament.

His biggest asset is his pace but he also has plenty of finesse with the ball at his feet, as shown by his spectacular back-flick against Belgium that sent the internet wild.

Croatia:

Lukas Modric

Luka Modric doesn’t seems to get the attentions that follow Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, but the crafty central midfielder deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as them.

His passing range, ability to dissect defences and play teammates into space with inch-perfect through balls and incredible defensive workrate make him the backbone of the Croatian side.

WHO WILL WIN?

According to bookmakers, France.

Ladbrokes has Didier Deschamps’ men as $1.90 favourites while Croatia is a rank $4.50 outsider.

Who are the previous World Cup winners?

What Buhari Said After Fayemi’s Victory In Ekiti Governorship Poll

President Muhammadu Buhari heartily congratulates Dr. John Kayode Fayemi on winning the Ekiti State governorship election.

How Fayemi Won Ekiti Gubernatorial Election

The President commends the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and all party supporters for the hard-fought victory after a dignified campaign.

President Buhari urges the governor-elect and APC members to be magnanimous in victory as the incoming administration prepares to unfold a new lease of life for the people of Ekiti State through purposeful and responsible governance.

He commends the people of the State for their matured and peaceful conduct as they made their choice using the power of the ballot.

President Buhari also lauds the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for adequate preparations and displaying impartiality throughout the process.

He applauds the security agencies for creating the right atmosphere for the relatively peaceful conduct of the polls and urges them to sustain the peace.

He also commends local and international observers and monitors for their vigilance and contributions towards the relatively hitch-free exercise.

The President urges the losers to be gallant in conceding defeat and use constitutional means to settle whatever grievances they may have rather than resort to self-help.

President Buhari appeals to all stakeholders in Ekiti State to work towards a successful transition to a new administration in the higher interest of not only the State but the entire nation and its fledgling democratic experience.

“In all this, the people of Ekiti State have spoken loud and clear, and democracy has won again,” the President notes.

#EkitiDecides2018: PDP’s Candidate Raises Alarm As APC’s Fayemi Takes Early Lead

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Professor Kolapo Olusola Eleka, has raised the alarm with respect to the outcome of yesterday’s election, alleging manipulation of results.

In a statement, a spokesman of the candidate Lere Olayinka said, ”We contested against security agencies” and alleged that plans were afoot to tinker with the results of the election.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted Olayinka as saying that results in most of the Local Councils are currently being tinkered with.

”Aside the fact that it was an election of the PDP versus all the security agencies in the country, we are confident of winning.

He said the various wards collating centres have been taken over by armed thugs backed by security agencies as it was before and during the election.

“Despite the intimidation and harassment by security agencies, we are still hopeful of winning the election but we are confronted with a clear plot to manipulate the results.

“We are therefore calling on all well meaning Nigerians to prevail on the security agencies and INEC to allow the will of Ekiti people to prevail.”

Meanwhile, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kayode Fayemi, is said to have taken an early lead in the State governorship election.

According to Premium Times, Mr Fayemi has won in seven of the eight local government areas where results have been announced by relevant electoral officials.
