#EkitiDecides2018: PDP’s Candidate Raises Alarm As APC’s Fayemi Takes Early Lead
The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Professor Kolapo Olusola Eleka, has raised the alarm with respect to the outcome of yesterday’s election, alleging manipulation of results.
In a statement, a spokesman of the candidate Lere Olayinka said, ”We contested against security agencies” and alleged that plans were afoot to tinker with the results of the election.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted Olayinka as saying that results in most of the Local Councils are currently being tinkered with.
”Aside the fact that it was an election of the PDP versus all the security agencies in the country, we are confident of winning.
He said the various wards collating centres have been taken over by armed thugs backed by security agencies as it was before and during the election.
“Despite the intimidation and harassment by security agencies, we are still hopeful of winning the election but we are confronted with a clear plot to manipulate the results.
“We are therefore calling on all well meaning Nigerians to prevail on the security agencies and INEC to allow the will of Ekiti people to prevail.”
Meanwhile, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kayode Fayemi, is said to have taken an early lead in the State governorship election.
According to Premium Times, Mr Fayemi has won in seven of the eight local government areas where results have been announced by relevant electoral officials.
The results from the various local governments will next be sent to the INEC secretariat in Ado-Ekiti where they will be formally announced.
From the results collated at the local governments, Mr Fayemi has won in Ilejemeje (4153 to 3937), Moba (11837 to 8520), Irepodun-Ifelodun (13,869 to 11,456), Oye (14,995 to 11,271), Ido-Osi (12,342 to 11,145), Ijero (14,192 to 11,077) and Gbonyin (11,498 to 8,027).
Olusola Eleka of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won in Efon Alaye local government (5,192 to 5028).
A summation of the eight results shows that the APC has 87,914 votes while the PDP has 70,625 votes, a difference of 17,289 votes.
