Brighton Complete Signing Of South Africa Striker Percy Tau From Mamelodi Sundowns

Featured Image

Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of South Africa striker Percy Tau from Mamelodi Sundowns.

Percy Tau has signed a four-year deal with the south coast side, who confirmed him as their seventh capture of the transfer window on Friday. He will be sent out on loan to gain experience and acclimatise to Europe.

“Going out on loan is always good to help a player develop and get better. It’s new for me to be in Europe, and I’ll get to work on myself and a few things that I need to improve,” Tau told the Brighton website.

“I’m hoping to get a better understanding of the game from playing there. It’s a different approach to what we’re used to in South Africa. It’s exciting football.”

Tau was named South African Footballer of the Year for 2017-18 as he helped Sundowns win the league title.

“Last season was great, I got a few personal achievements, but we won the league as well, which is something that means so much to me,” he said.

“I’m happy to have gone down that path, but it’s over now and it’s time to make new memories. This move should help me play more international football. I’ll be learning a lot, which will also be good for my country.

“Hopefully I can make some great memories here – I love making memories and I’m so happy to be here. I’m very impressed with the facilities, they’re better than what I’m used to. It’s something I expected and it’s a better place to be.”

Erik Lamela Signs New Contract Extension With Tottenham Hotspur

Featured Image

Erik Lamela has signed a contract extension with Tottenham ahead of the new season.

Erik Lamela has penned a fresh contact, which will expire in the summer of 2022, shortly after team-mate Heung-min Son’s five-year extension was confirmed.

Lamela has begun his pre-season, his first since 2015 without an international tournament, with a first-half hat-trick against Southend United and will continue to work on his fitness during the squad’s pre-season tour of the United States.

Lamela missed a large portion of the last two seasons with a hip injury.

However, he was a key figure of the squad upon his return, notably featuring in Tottenham’s 2-2 draw away at Juventus in the Champions League.

Since signing from Roma in 2013, Lamela has made 149 appearances for Tottenham, scoring 24 goals.

He netted a brace during Tottenham’s 5-4 win over Leicester on the last day of the 2017-18 Premier League season, and has become an important player under Mauricio Pochettino.

Russia World Cup Stewards To Be Punished After Pitch Invaders Disrupted The Final

Featured Image

The organiser of Russia’s World Cup says the stewards will be punished after protesters ran onto the pitch during the world cup Final

Organising committee CEO Alexei Sorokin told Russia’s Sport Express newspaper “we will make [the stewards] ashamed” after four members of the Pussy Riot protest group and punk band ran onto the pitch dressed as police officers.

The game was briefly stopped as stewards chased the protesters, one of whom shared a high-five with France’s star forward Kylian Mbappe.

Sorokin said the stewards face “disciplinary measures” and suggested they backed down because of instinctive respect for police attire.

“We all grew up respecting the uniform, you have to agree,” he said. “Yes, the stewards were unprofessional, but it’s not fair to accuse them too harshly. The people who ran onto the field were too cunning.”

Dwarf Boko Haram Fighter Says He “Gets N5,000 For Facilitating Each Bombing”

Abubakar Kori, a dwarf, who facilitated the suicide bombing activities of Boko-Haram insurgents, said he was paid not less than N5,000 for each suicide bomb attack carried out in Maiduguri.

Meet The 8 Boko Haram Insurgents Behind Chibok Girls Kidnap And 14 Others Arrested

Kori, 25, is among the 22 people arrested by the police in Borno and Yobe for their alleged involvement in suicide bombing activities carried out by the insurgents.

“My role is to keep the Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs) for onward delivery to another person who will carry out the attack”, he told NAN.

“On different occasions, two of my acquaintances gave a parcel to keep for somebody, who will come and take it.

“I normally kept the parcel in my duty post; the appointed person would come and picked it; after successful delivery, they paid me N5,000.

“We reside in the same neighborhood in Maiduguri; they always told me that the parcel was given to them by one Ba’Adam, and asked me to keep it.

“They introduced me to Ba’Adam, who is the mastermind of the attacks,” he revealed.

On his part, Adam Mustapha, a.k.a Ba’Adam, admitted that he coordinated various suicide bomb attacks, which resulted in the death of hundreds of people in Maiduguri.

Ba’Adam, 20, narrated that he had coordinated several bomb attacks at Bulukuntu, Baga road, 333 Artillery gate, Customs, Post Office and Muna Garage areas of Maiduguri.

“On two occasions, I was paid N200, 000 for the successful execution of bomb attacks.

“Most of the time, I had to pester them before payment could be made to me,” he said.

When asked whether he had cause at any time to regret his actions, Ba’Adam said that he was never remorseful at any given time.

Another suspect, Ibrahim Mala, 48, also admitted to aiding suicide bomb attacks in Maiduguri, sales of rustled animals and supply of logistics to the insurgents in the bush.

Mala, a butcher and resident of Dalori-Kakere village in the outskirts of Maiduguri, revealed that the insurgents were supplying sheep and provided him with N180, 000 loans, to enable him to run his business.

“They paid me N5, 000 for safe keeping of IEDs, and they also sent me on errands to buy consumable items for them.

“I bought the items at the market and kept it at my home; some persons would come at night, pick and deliver same to members of the group hiding in the forest.

“Some of the items included torch lights, matches, sandals, kola nuts, cubes and clothing materials.

“I saved money in dealing with the group and bought a plot of land worth over N420, 000.

“I know that they are Boko-Haram insurgents and my wife was not happy with my dealings with them; she asked me to stop but it is too late,” he narrated.

Commenting on the arrest, Mr Abba Kyari, the DCP, Intelligence Response Team (IRT), said that the suspects were apprehended by the police in various communities in Borno and Yobe.

Kyari called on members of the public to report suspicious persons and movement to the security agencies.

Saraki, Tambuwal, Others To Dump APC Next Week – What We’ve Heard So Far

Saraki, Tambuwal, Others To Dump APC Next Week And What We’ve Heard So Far

Except for any last minute changes of plans, the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, may dump the All Progressives Congress (APC) and seal his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before the end of next week.

Buhari Begs Saraki Not To Defect To PDP

Asides the Senate President, it is believed that some members of the splinter Reformed APC (R-APC) will be dumping the APC next week as the National Assembly embarks on a long vacation preparatory to the parties’ primaries for various elective offices.

“Just watch out before we leave for the annual recess next week, many of our members (R-APC) will denounce their membership of the APC. We are going to join a party that will guarantee us return ticket for 2019,” a source told New Telegraph.

Sahara Reporters also gathered that the Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal will be joined by some APC governors, among whom are Ahmed Abdulfatah of Kwara State, and Samuel Ortom of Benue State, who already announced his departure from APC on Monday saying he had been ‘red-carded”.

3 Northern Governors, 30 Senators, 70 Reps’ Members On The Verge To Dump APC For PDP

Ahead of the move, Saraki, Tambuwal and some of the APC governors met on Wednesday with PDP leaders and were together at the burial of the mother of Abubakar Baraje, Chairman of the New Peoples Democratic Party (n-PDP) bloc that spearheaded the defection of six governors from the PDP to APC in 2013, ahead of the 2015 presidential election.

Uche Secondus, National Chairman of the PDP; Nyesom Wike, Governor of Rivers State and n-PDP’s Baraje were among the notable PDP leaders who received Saraki and the renegade APC team two days ago.

PDP, R-APC, 37 Others Join Forces To Unseat Buhari In 2019

There is no gainsaying that the planned defection of the APC bigwigs will further depletes the ranks of the ruling party, already hit by the breakout of the Reformed All Progressives Congress (R-APC) and the union of close to 40 political parties to form the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP).

However, in his attempt to avert what seems to be the exodus of its bigwigs to the leading opposition party, President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday met behind closed doors with Saraki and some APC governors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

In what appears to be a peace initiative, the president pleaded with the senate president to stay back in the party.

Saraki’s meeting with Buhari at the Presidential Villa on Thursday was set up by APC governors, including Alhaji Aminu Masari (Katsina State), Senator Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun State) and Senator Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi State), who after initial discussions with the Senate president at his Abuja residence on Wednesday night, prevailed on the president to meet with him and persuade him not to defect from the party.

“President Muhammadu Buhari made it clear that the SIP would be a major programme of the administration because he was concerned about poverty and unemployment,” Vice President Yemi Osinbajo once said.

In conjunction with all State N-Power partners, the new beneficiaries will be promptly deployed to their assigned Primary Places of Assignment (PPA) on or before the said date.

The final selection lists broken down in States/Local Government Area (LGA) for each of the (3) N-Power component would be circulated to all focal persons in the states and FCT by July 20, 2018.

All successfully deployed N-Power beneficiaries in the second batch will be engaged for two-years starting from August 1, 2018 to July 31, 2020.

In order to qualify for their first monthly payment stipend of N30,000 by August 31, 2018, all deployed volunteers are expected to upload on their N-Power portal page their stamped and signed confirmation of resumption on or before Friday, August 10, 2018.

Through the N-Power scheme, hundreds of thousands of young, unemployed Nigerian graduates have been empowered through training and skills acquisition in different areas of public services, including education (N-Teach), health (N-Health), agriculture (N-Agro), and building/construction (N-Build).

Each N-Power beneficiary learns entrepreneurial skills to enable him become a business person and become a professional on his own, while beneficiaries are given electronic devices to enhance their work and paid a N30,000 monthly.

State-based N-Power partners comprise, but are not limited to the following: N-Teach – State Universal Board for Education (SUBEB); State & Local Government Area (LGA) Offices for Adult Education Centres; State & LGA Offices for Nomadic Education; N-Agro – State & LGA Offices for Agriculture Development Programme (ADP); and N-Health – State & LGA Offices for Primary Health Care Board.

Dangers Of Food And Water In Plastics – Kayode Ojewale

Sir: Many Nigerians did not understand where the Agriculture Minister Audu Ogbeh was coming from when sometime ago he warned his compatriots against the use of cellophane in their food regime. He was speaking from a scientifically informed position we should align with for the good health of society.

This piece was written by Kayode Ojewale and was first published on Nigerian Guardian. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

The minister raised an alarm that Nigerians who are eating beans pudding (‘moinmoin’) cooked in cellophane (nylon) bags risk serious health challenge as the product is poisonous. According to him, cellophane bags contain large doses of dioxin that are harmful to health. Let me also add that liquid milk tin is also dangerous for packaging ‘moinmoin’ when cooking as leaching of chemical from the milk tin into the content will still occur. The healthy alternative for packaging or wrapping ‘moinmoin’ when steaming is the use of local green leaves which do not contain poisonous substances. These leaves rather add flavor, antioxidants and aroma to the ‘moinmoin’.

Plastics, no doubt, have become a part of our daily lives especially in the kitchen. The role of plastics as packaging and storage containers for our food cannot be overemphasized. Plastics are light-weight, readily available and cheap, hence their heavy demand in the kitchen. Plastics like PET bottles also become handy for packaging water in various sizes. Cooking oil is also packaged in plastic kegs, jerry cans and bottles of different sizes. Some electric jugs, insulated food warmers, food flasks, food serving spoons (for staple and swallow foods) – spatula and ladle for soup, sieve and many other kitchen utensils are made of plastics. Plastics can however be hazardous to human lives depending on the plastic type, how it is used and what it is used for.

Sadly, we hardly can do without plastics touching in our food chain–from production, preparation, processing up to packaging, plastics are involved. In addition, storage and reheating of leftover foods are done mostly in plastic containers. Findings have also revealed that almost all plastic packaging materials used for food contain substances that can leach into the food. Leaching, in this context, is the release of harmful chemicals from plastics or cellophane (nylon) bags into the contents it carries, be it food or liquid when heated.

On the basis of recycling symbol or code, plastics can be grouped into seven. It is also on this basis that plastics are regarded as harmful or safe and eco-friendly. You may not have noticed this – every plastic bottle or container has a recycling symbol. The symbol is a number which ranges from one to seven and written in a triangle drawn with a chasing arrow symbol. Just look around the bottom of any plastic product, imprinted somewhere on the underside is a number inscribed in the arrow-chasing triangle and with acronym or symbol just below the triangle.

Plastic products labeled code #1 stands for PET (Polyethylene terephthalate); code #2, HDPE (High-density Polyethylene); code #3, PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride); code #4, LDPE (Low-density Polyethylene); code #5, PP (Polypropylene); code #6, PS (Polystyrene) and code #7, PC (Polycarbonates).

Food safety experts and toxicologists say plastic products with recycling codes #3, #6 and #7 are toxic and should be avoided particularly if using them for food and drinks because they leach harmful chemicals. Some experts have argued that plastics labeled code #1 are not safe because they leach antimony trioxide (a possible carcinogen) when heated, while others believe PET bottles are safe. Other plastics with recycle codes #2, #4 and #5 are likely to be free of Bisphenol A (BPA), phthalates and other dangerous chemicals of concern. The consumption of sachet and bottled water exposed to sunlight with temperature over 28 degrees celcius is hazardous and can damage the immune system, lead to failure of kidney and liver.

In order to live and lead a healthy life, avoid eating hot food from plastics. Also remember to use plastics with recycle codes #1, #2, #4 and #5 only for food and drinks purposes, while plastics with codes #3, #6 and #7 should be avoided when it comes to food. However, to play safe and be extra cautious, avoid taking hot food from any plastic irrespective of the recycling code under it.

Those in the habit of habit buying food in cellophane bags and then eating from it should desist from such practices as large doses of dioxin enter the body through the food. Same is also applicable to people who buy and drink freshly prepared hot antimalarial herbal concoction (“agbo iba”) from road side sellers inside nylons or plastic cups. Taking hot coffee or water from Styrofoam (disposable) cups is similar as well.

To ensure an all-round awareness at all levels for rural and city dwellers, government should sensitize its citizens on harmful consequences of plastic toxins when leached out into our food and water after exposure to heat. When citizens are well educated and informed on plastic toxins, they will take healthy and informed decisions.

Kim Kardashian Sued Over Alleged Perfume Logo Theft

Kim Kardashian is reportedly being sued for allegedly stealing a marketing company’s logo for her new perfume bottle.

It is understood that the reality star-turned-mogul is already facing a trademark infringement lawsuit over the Kimoji Vibes perfume she released earlier this week, which reportedly earned her an estimated $6.8 million in just five minutes.

In an enthusiastic manner, Kim had recently visited her social media accounts to promote her new line which consists of three scents – Kimoji Vibes, Kimoji Cherry, and Kimoji Peach.

But according to court documents obtained by The Blast, mobile marketing company Vibes Media claimed that the packaging of KKW Fragrance’s latest scent infringed on its trademarked logo, a blue speech bubble with the word “vibes” written in white lower case, which was registered in 2012.

Judge for yourself below.

Kim Kardashian is 'being SUED for stealing a marketing company's Vibes logo for her new fragrance line' The lawsuit alleged that KKW Fragrance “has been marketing, promoting, and is now selling a ‘Vibes’ perfume. The ‘Vibes’ perfume comes in a bottle that is a close facsimile of the Registered Vibes Logo.”

The documents also claimed that “there is a strong likelihood that consumers will be confused into believing that Defendant’s Vibes perfume is Plaintiff’s product or that it is authorised, endorsed, sponsored, or approved by Plaintiff,” or conversely that the marketing company is somehow affiliated with Kardashian.

The Chicago-based marketing company also says KKW doesn’t have permission to use its trademarked logo.
