Paul Clement Fires Back At Darren Bent – Calls Him A Bitter And Lazy Footballer

Featured Image

Former Derby County manager Paul Clement has claimed that Darren Bent was ‘overweight and lazy’ when he was in charge of the club

Paul Clement was appointed as Derby boss in June 2015 but lasted just 33 games with the Rams, and his time at the club coincided with Bent being dropped from the starting lineup.

Bent was critical of Clement’s time with the East Midlands outfit on Friday when working for Sky Sports as a pundit, saying that it was inevitable that Clement would “crumble ” and that the former Chelsea assistant did ‘not like confrontation’.

However, Clement has chosen to respond to the forward, claiming that the 34-year-old was showing “bitterness” for not keeping his place in the side.

Samuel Eto’o Terminates His Contract With Konyaspor

Featured Image

Former Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o has had his contract with Turkish Club Konyaspor terminated by mutual consent.

Samuel Eto’o had only joined the Turkish side in January on a two-and-a-half-year contract, and scored six goals in just 14 appearances to help the club survive relegation.

But amid rumours of a possible return to Spain or France, Eto’o has had his stay cut short “on the basis of a previously agreed negotiation”.

“We thank Samuel Eto’o for his contributions to the club and his services on behalf of our colours, and we hope that he will bring beauty, happiness and success to his future plans after a farewell to each other in warm and sincere feelings,” a statement on Konyaspor’s website read.

Lopetegui: Madrid Are Ready For The League

Featured Image

Real Madrid’s new coach, Julen Lopetegui insists that Real Madrid are ready for the start of the La Liga, with the match against Atletico fast approaching.

In the former Spain’s coach first match for Madrid, he lost 2-1 to Manchester United. He will face Juventus on Saturday and Roma three days later.

Then Lopetegui will lead Real Madrid against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup on August 15.

“It’s been positive,” Lopetegui told the Madrid website. “We’re working very hard as is normal at this time of year, with real intensity and the resulting fatigue.

“We’re hitting our goals both physically and tactically, assimilating new concepts and reinforcing elements of our collective game and tactical aspects which we are addressing every day.

“The main aim of pre-season is to get ready for the competitive games and go into those in the best possible fashion on group and individual levels. Players are coming back at different stages and we’re trying to make sure they are all preparing in the same way.”

Madrid went down 2-1 against Premier League side Manchester United in their first ICC game, the maiden match Lopetegui oversaw after succeeding Zinedine Zidane.

“We were pleased the team showed good character despite the different preparation levels,” Lopetegui added. “They’d played five games and it was our first.

“Particularly in the second half, the team showed quality and real personality. We played a good match in general terms and attempted to translate all we’ve been working on to the pitch.”

Suso: Milan Will Miss Bonucci

Featured Image

AC Milan star Suso has noted that the Rossoneri will miss the experience and leadership of Leonardo Bonucci as he returned to his former club of Juve.

Bonucci was in Milan last season joining from Juve, before returning on loan, in a deal that say Caldara and Higuain join Milan.

The centre back captained Milan in his single season at the club and Suso believes his absence will be felt.

“Yes, we lose leadership and experience,” Suso told Marca of Bonucci’s departure.

“He brought many things in a very young team. He feels he took a step back signing for Milan and that is why he returns to Juventus.

“When the project is interesting and players like Higuain arrive it is always positive. The level of the team increases.

“If the year is good for him, it will automatically be good for us too. He is a player who stands out well and knows what to do with the ball.”

Beckenbauer: Germany Needed To Be Hungrier

Featured Image

Germany legend, Franz Beckenbauer has taken a swipe at the national team following their early knockout at the World Cup.

Germany led by Joachim Low crashed out in the group stages of the World Cup, after losing to Mexico and South Korea.

Beckenbauer, meanwhile, has claimed that there was a lack of desire from certain players.

“From the outside, I also had the impression that the passion had been somewhat watered down in the four years since the World Cup victory,” he told Bild. “Therefore, a rebuild with hungry, hot players is needed.

“The singing of the national anthem also plays a role. Who sings before the game frees himself more than chewing gum.”

Obasanjo Says God Will Never Forgive Him If He Supports Atiku For President

Obasanjo Says God Will Never Forgive Him If He Supports Atiku For President

A former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, has stated that former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, “can never enjoy” his support for a political office, saying further that “If I support Atiku for anything, God will not forgive me.”

The erstwhile president is saying this on Friday – at a time when Atiku, his then vice, as made his intention known to contest for Nigeria’s highest position.

Atiku served as vice-president to Obasanjo from 1999 to 2007. He aspired to succeed Obasanjo in 2003 but the elder statesman went ahead to complete another term.

But in 2007, the duo fell apart, while Obasanjo’s alleged third term agenda was also said to have worsened their dispute.

In an exclusive interview with Premium Times, Obasanjo said he has no personal grudges against Atiku but only works with anyone “working for the good of Nigeria”.

“How can I be on the same side with Atiku?” Mr Obasanjo asked. “To do what?”

“If I support Atiku for anything, God will not forgive me. If I do not know, yes. But once I know, Atiku can never enjoy my support,” he was quoted as saying.

“I do not have personal grudges with anyone,” Mr Obasanjo said. “If you do not do well for Nigeria, you do not do well for all of us.”

“It is not a question of working with or not working with an individual,” he said. “If you are working for the good of Nigeria, I am working with you. If you are not working for the good of Nigeria it does not matter who you are I am not working with you.”

“If my children are getting married, he has sent representatives. If his children are getting married, I have sent representatives. That is social. That is not political,” he said, adding that “on political ground, my position has not changed. If I support Atiku for a political office other than the one I supported him in the past when I did not know him … God will not forgive me”.

Bear in mind that Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, had on Thursday said that Obasanjo “knelt down” before Atiku in a bid to clinch the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2003 election.

Report: Pogba Picks Iniesta’s Number 8 Shirt At Barcelona Amid Juventus Interest

Pogba Picks Iniesta’s Number 8 Shirt At Barcelona Amid Juventus Interest

There are strong indications that Barcelona are preparing a late transfer move for Manchester United star Paul Pogba and the Frenchman is excited by the prospect of moving to Camp Nou.

Metro UK is reporting that Pogba has already picked Andres Iniesta’s No.8 shirt as he hopes to complete a move to Barcelona this summer.

It is believed that the Frenchman is interested in playing for Barcelona and specifically replacing Iniesta who left the club at the close of last season.

The Spanish giants are keen to strengthen their midfield this summer and after the signing of Arturo Vidal they also want to bring in a superstar replacement for Iniesta.

According to Tuttosport, Barca sporting director Eric Abidal met with Pogba in Los Angeles last week and discussed a possible move.

Barcelona have been linked with the likes of Miralem Pjanic and Thiago, but Pogba is the man they want to breathe fresh life into their midfield.

Meanwhile, there is also a breakdown in the relationship between Pogba and his coach José Mourinho after the former has refused to cut his holiday short to make return to training with the Red Devils.

Tuttosport reports that the United gaffer had asked his players to make return to training before the end of their holidays and most of Manchester United stars – including Romelu Lukaku – have meet the Portuguese’s desire.

However, Pogba has refused to cut his holidays short and has organized a party in Los Angeles instead. Friends and members of Pogba’s family have attended the party before moving to French Polynesia.

The Italian paper claims Pogba’s low relationship with the Special One gives Juventus hope to re-sign the French midfielder who has already made it clear that he would not mind a return to Turin after the last two years spent at the Old Trafford.

Arsenal Sell Goalkeeper Joao Virginia To Everton For Undisclosed Fee

Featured Image

Arsenal have sold academy goalkeeper Joao Virginia to Everton for an undisclosed fee.

Joao Virginia, 18, joined Arsenal from Benfica in 2015 but never featured for the first team. However, he is considered a promising talent who played for the club’s under-23s and was also in Portugal’s squad for the 2016 Olympics and this summer’s U19 European championship.

“We would like to thank Joao for his contribution to the club and wish him well for the future,” Arsenal said in a statement.

“I am really happy to be at Everton,” Virginia told the official Toffees website.

“I hope to learn a lot from the goalkeepers here, Jordan Pickford, who had a great season and World Cup and Maarten Stekelenburg, who is very experienced too. This is a great opportunity for me.”

Virginia is Everton’s third signing of the summer after Richarlison and Lucas Digne.

Arsenal Left-back Sead Kolasinac Ruled Out For Up To Two Months Due To Knee Injury

Featured Image

Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac has been ruled out for up to 10 weeks with a knee injury

Sead Kolasinac went off injured during Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea in Dublin on Wednesday and the club said on Friday he will miss the opening two months of the season.

Arsenal said the defender “sustained an injury to his left knee. Will be out for 8-10 weeks.”

The prognosis on Ramsey was more positive after he sat out the Chelsea game with a calf problem. The club said the Welshman “developed tightness in his right calf” and is continuing to be assessed, but he is “aiming to train next week.”

Kolasinac’s absence means Nacho Monreal is likely to start when Arsenal take on Manchester City next weekend in the opening round of the Premier League.

Monreal only joined up with the squad this week following the World Cup but could play his first preseason game against Lazio in Stockholm on Monday.

Everton’s New Signing Lucas Digne Explains ‘Never Walk Alone’ Tattoo On His Chest

Featured Image

Everton’s new left-back Lucas Digne reassured fans of the club that his tattoo reading “I never walk alone” has nothing to do with Merseyside rivals Liverpool.

Lucas Digne signed with Everton from Barcelona but he has caused a bit of commotion among supporters when it came to light that he had the words to the Anfield anthem tattooed across his chest.

And in quotes appearing in the Liverpool Echo, Digne said: “There is nothing about football, it is just about my parents.

“When I go for my first day at school when I was three or four years old they gave me a necklace with these words on.

“After when I was 18 years old in Lille I got a tattoo and maybe the Liverpool fans are angry because I said, two times, ‘no’ to sign for Liverpool.”

Digne failed to break into Barca’s regular first team ahead of Jordi Alba and went on to explain how he’d twice turned down approaches from Liverpool to further underscore his devotion to his new club.

He said: “Two times, the first after Lille when I went to Paris and the second time was after Rome. I said two times ‘no’ because I am a Blue.”

Frank Lampard Starts Of Derby County Managerial Career With Incredible Last-gasp Win Over Reading

Featured Image

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard began his managerial reign with a victory as his Derby County side came from behind to beat Reading 2-1 with a last-minute goal in the Championship on Friday night.

Derby’s Tom Lawrence headed the winner in the 94th minute after teenager Mason Mount scored on the hour with a low drive to cancel out Jon Dadi Bodvarsson’s header that had put the hosts in front after 53 minutes .

“What a finish. You can call it a stroke of luck, but those things are hard-earned,” said Lampard. “It’s a last-second winner, so it’s an incredible feeling,” he added after his name rang out among the celebrating away fans at the final whistle.

“This is football and this is why I came into management — the fans at the end of the game and those celebrations, we have to savour them because that’s what hard work can get you.”

The win meant Frank Lampard got the better of counterpart Paul Clement in the opposition dugout, having worked as a player at Chelsea with the ex-Blues coach.

He will be aiming for at least a playoff spot but is under no illusions as to how tough it will be to win promotion.

“It’s a tough, tough game. We have to learn because there is loads of room for improvement,” added Lampard.

Manchester United Goalkeeper Joel Pereira Joins Vitoria Setubal On Loan

Featured Image

Manchester United goalkeeper Joel Pereira has joined Portuguese club Vitoria Setubal on loan.

Joel Pereira, 22, was part of Jose Mourinho’s squad for the tour of the United States but signed a season-long deal with the Portuguese club after arriving back in Manchester on Wednesday.

It will be his third loan spell since joining United in 2012, having also spent time at Rochdale and Belenenses.

Jose Mourinho is confident that Pereira can become first choice at Manchester United in future but said during the tour of the U.S. that he would need to get games under his belt to help his development.

“We did Lee Grant because we have a fantastic young goalkeeper who needs to play football,” he said in Los Angeles.

“I really believe Joel is a Manchester United goalkeeper, but he cannot be two years without football — he has to play.

“To protect that position we have Lee, we’ve known Lee for a long time, he has experience in the Championship, also with Stoke City in the Premier League, he’s more than ready to fulfil that position and allow the development of Joel.”

Burnley Close To Signing Manchester City Goalkeeper Joe Hart

Featured Image

Burnley are in talks to sign Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart

Burnley are in the market for a new goalkeeper after losing No. 1 Nick Pope for three months with a dislocated shoulder injury.

Burnley’s backup Tom Heaton is also struggling with a calf injury which has kept him out since the beginning of last season, leaving Burnley to give a first start in two years to third-choice Anders Lindegaard in Thursday night’s extra-time Europa League win over Aberdeen.

Burnley are offering £4 million for Hart but have no plans to sell either Pope or Heaton should a deal be agreed, sources said.

The England international appears to not have a future at City having spent the the past two seasons away from the club, on loan to Torino and then West Ham United.

Joe Hart is behind Ederson and Claudio Bravo in the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium and Pep Guardiola won’t stand in his way to move on.

Hart has said he is keen to be playing regularly next season after losing his place in the England squad for the World Cup.

“I need to go somewhere permanent, I think that’s obvious,” Hart told reporters last month. “I did what I did in the previous two seasons because I needed to play to be involved in the World Cup. And look where that got me.

“I’m experienced, I’ve played at the highest level for a long time and done a lot of things in the game. I need to be an important player at that club and I think that can only happen with a permanent move.”

The agent of Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has suggested that the goalkeeper has told his current club that he wants to leave this summer.

Thibaut Courtois has been heavily linked with a transfer to Real Madrid this summer, and Chelsea find themselves in a position where they must sell him as soon as possible or lose the Belgium international on a free at the end of June 2019.

Christophe Henrotay told The Sun: “I have been reading everywhere that Chelsea are saying it is up to Thibaut, but he has made it clear to the club that the best option for him is to move to Madrid.

“For him this is a big decision because he wants to be near his family, and there is an offer in place for Chelsea to accept.”

Barcelona Confirm Signing Of Bayern Munich Midfielder Arturo Vidal

La Liga Champions Barcelona have agreed a deal with Bayern Munich for Arturo Vidal, the midfielder is set to sign a three-year contract.

Arturo Vidal, 31, moves for a reported €25 million fee ahead of the final year of his contract, after spending three seasons in Germany.

Barcelona went on to reveal on Friday that he would have a medical in the coming days to seal his transfer.

Vidal fills a need for Barca, whose coach, Ernesto Valverde, has desired another midfielder since the club loaned Paulinho back to Guangzhou Evergrande in July after just one season.

Barca had been eyeing Paris Saint-Germain’s Adrien Rabiot or Ajax teenager Frenkie de Jong, but instead decided to move for Vidal over concerns they would not be able to complete a deal with their other targets before the transfer deadline.

Vidal, a Chile international who was one of the biggest names available this summer, also had been linked to a move to Inter Milan after being deemed surplus to requirements by new Bayern coach Niko Kovac.

Vidal scored 22 goals and added 18 assists in 124 competitive games for Bayern, helping them win the Bundesliga all three seasons he spent at the Allianz Arena.

“On behalf of everyone at Bayern, I’d like to thank Arturo very much for three fantastic years,” Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said in a statement. “We won a lot of silverware in that time, and Arturo played a major role in those wins. He was a leader, also in the big game. We could always rely on him.”

The signing of Vidal will be Barcelona’s fifth of the summer after the additions of Bordeaux’s Malcom, Sevilla’s Clement Lenglet, Gremio’s Arthur and KAS Eupen’s Moussa Wague, who completed his move to the Camp Nou earlier on Friday.
