Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, (FRSC), Ogun State, Clement Oladele, said that out of the 37 corps members, 19 of them comprising nine males and ten females were injured.

According to him, the corps members were heading to Sango en route Ibadan-Lagos Expressway in a white coloured coaster bus when the accident occurred around the Danco petrol station axis.

Confirming that none of them died, but some sustained ”serious injuries,” Mr Oladele also revealed that the accident was caused by speed violation and loss of control by the driver.

He said the injured victims were evacuated to FRSC Accident Emergency Clinic at Sagamu.

The official disclosed that four of the victims with ”more serious injuries” were referred for further checks at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) Sagamu.

The Ogun state police command also advised corps members to always caution their drivers especially during this raining season and where such drivers refused to heed caution, they should call FRSC toll free number 122 for necessary disciplinary action against such erring drivers.

The Nine Kinds Of People Supporting Buhari For A Second Term

The Nine Kinds Of People Supporting Buhari For A Second Term – ‘Fisayo Soyombo

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

Corruption is fighting back! That is the constant refrain from the people in government and their supporters to criticism of President Muhammadu Buhari or opposition to his re-election ambition. If, for example, you’re a journalist and you believe the President hasn’t done enough to earn a second term, it is because brown envelopes have been in short or no supply. If you’re a politician and you feel this way, you stole while in office or you will if you get there. All of us who have opted not to say ‘Sai Baba’ ahead of 2019 have one thing in common: corruption.

This piece was written by Fisayo Soyombo. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

Fortunately for Buhari’s supporters, they can’t all be shoehorned into one homogeneous group. Who, who and who, or which classes of people, belong to this heterogeneous mix? And are they supporting their man in the country’s best interest?

The people in government: Around the time when former President Goodluck Jonathan was being told by some bigwigs in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) he could not contest the 2015 presidential election because he had served out the remainder of the late Umaru Yar’Adua’s tenure (2010 to 2011) and was serving out a fresh term of his own (2011 to 2015), he met with Lagos-based print newspaper editors. When one of them asked him if he would re-contest or not, he neither said yes nor no. But he asked them to look into the mirror; the editorship of many of them predated his presidency yet they were still in office. He wasn’t chastising them but making a valid point about how self-perpetuation in power is intricately human. It is no surprise that the people in Buhari’s government are desperate to have him back in 2019 despite the numerous and obvious red flags. Buhari is not the reason they support Buhari; their real interests are self-serving. To expect people in government to priotise the nation over self is a tall order very few people are capable of. The people in this group we must empathise with, not chastise.

The political jobbers: Buhari’s ascent to power is widely believed to have wrecked individuals and businesses that thrive on political jobbing, government patronage and official graft. While this may or may not be true, there is no doubt that there are individuals all over the country whose financial stocks have risen either directly through Buhari’s coming to power or indirectly through the people working with him. No matter the scale of poverty, government ineptitude, insecurity and anti-corruption hypocrisy in the land, these people will give anything for another four Buhari years. The challenge with having people like this around is that you never know why they do what they do or say what they say about re-electing the President in 2019.

The face-savers: If, like me, you clamoured for Buhari in 2015 because you considered him the ‘lesser of two evils’ but he lost you along the way in his presidential reign, it’s not the end of the world — and few things are more honourable in life than admitting a mistake when one has been made. If Buhari let you down with his biased handling of security, sending soldiers to the South-East to finish off the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) without doing the same to terrorist herdsmen; or he slipped out of your good books with his bow-legged anti-corruption crusade, locking up corrupt opposition members with the speed of light but applying snail’s-speed treatment to similar elements in his cabinet, it’s not the end of the world and it’s not your fault. The people in this category are desperate to avoid the I-told-you-so smirk of Goodluck Jonathan’s supporters should they publicly express their disillusionment with Buhari. In here are people who are either against Buhari in private but with him in public, or are with him both ways but are constantly in a struggle with themselves on whether their choice is indeed right.

The PR strategists: These are about the deadliest of Buhari’s supporters — not because they can kill but because they can be sat right next to you but you won’t know, and also because they’re, more often than not, brilliant. They speak fluent English, write flowery prose and present mesmerizing arguments. However, for them, supporting Buhari is not about personal conviction but about professionalism in garnering public support for their candidate. There are so many of them dotting the social-media space. These guys are only just doing their job; nothing more.

The religious fanatics: These are the opportunity-cost supporters. Some love Buhari because they love him, others simply because of the Yemi Osinbajo factor. They are a blend of the two leading faiths — Christians who would support Buhari or any other President for that matter so long his deputy is a Redeemed Christian Church of God pastor; and Muslims who won’t stop chanting ‘Sai Baba’ even if pump price of petrol were to rise to N600/litre. To them, Buhari can be the opportunity cost of having Osinbajo in government, and they do not mind at all.

The ethnic jingoists: They want a Hausa-Fulani as President in 2019; simple. Not much needs to be said about this group, easily recognizable on social media by their names. We all have one or two of them on our timelines, don’t we?

The northern foot soldiers: These are a huge majority of the 12.7million people who voted for Buhari in 2003 or the 12.2million who did in 2011. In the last three years, nothing has changed about Buhari’s popularity in the North. As seen by the mammoth crowds that welcomed him during his recent visits to Bauchi, Jigawa and Kano, Buhari is still the most loved northerner alive. Pure, blind love. One of them trekked from Yola to Abuja to witness the presidential inauguration in 2015, but while he’s currently stuck at the Yola FMC due to a leg injury he sustained from the expedition, his “political role model” is re-energising himself in the UK. Still, whether or not Buhari extends his current 10-day vacation by 100 days, these people will vote him in 2019.

The APC supporters: Had Buhari been the PDP candidate, these people wouldn’t support him. But their loyalty belongs to the party and, by extension, its candidate. In this class also are people whose uncles, aunts, second cousins, in-laws, bosom friends, brother of their sugar daddy’s nephew or father of their friend’s sister’s husband, is contesting for some office in 2019 under the APC ticket. How dare you seek the party’s ticket without backing the President?

The naivetés: It’s honestly hard to blame them. They genuinely lack the ability to analyse issues beyond the surface. In their minds, Buhari is truly fighting corruption, bolstering the economy, killing off Boko Haram, providing exemplary leadership and putting food on the poor man’s table. And, above all, corruption is fighting back!

So, when next you run into someone who just doesn’t understand that Nigeria deserves better than Buhari in 2019, don’t get mad at them. Run through these nine groups and you will find one that best suits them, and you can therefore understand how their mind is working. And if you find some who fit into none of these nine groups, please feel free to create a tenth group for them.

Falconets: Nigeria Qualify For Quarter-Finals Of Women World Cup In France

The Nigeria Women’s U-20 team – the Falconets – have qualified for the quarter-final stage of the ongoing FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup taking place in France, after playing a 1-1 draw with China.

A last-ditch effort from Rasheedat Ajibade saved Nigeria from exiting the tournament as the Falconets forced China to a 1-1 draw in Dinan-Lehon, with the Nigerian team claiming a spot in the quarter-finals from Group D at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup France 2018.

China scored four minutes before half-time, as the diminutive Linyan Zhang turned her Nigerian marker in the box and stroked the ball past a diving Chiamaka Nnadozie to give the Asians the lead at the break.

The Super Falconets pushed hard in search of an equaliser in the second half, but found the China backline and goalkeeper Huan Xu in resilient form until the end of the contest.

With seconds left to play, substitute Aishat Bello’s cross from the right saw captain Rashdeedat Ajibade challenge for the ball with China right-back Jiaxing Dou.

Bello’s cross struck the Chinese defender before nestling in the back of the net and sparking emotional celebrations from the West Africans at the full-time whistle.

The Lagos Prisons Command has said a total of 157 inmates across the prisons in the state have registered for the upcoming second series of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates while two others are already pursuing their PhDs at the Kirikiri Maximum Prison.

He said that the progress and courage exhibited by the two PhD inmates at the maximum prison had sparked off a new zeal for academic pursuit among other inmates.

“The command is committed in ensuring that no inmate is left behind in terms of education, as this is part of the reformation we are carrying out.

“Sometime around May or June, two of the inmates who have acquired their Masters degrees enrolled for their PhD in the newly established National Open University of Nigeria centre at the Kirikiri facility.

“One of the inmates is studying Business Management and the other, Peace and Conflict Resolution, and the Vice Chancellor of the NOUN who personally presented them with the letter approving their PhD courses said it is tuition free.

“To us, this is ground breaking and very encouraging, as they have shown that they are not limited by the situation they find themselves. And that is part of the essence of our on-going reformation across the prisons.

“As a result of this, the command is also witnessing an increase of enrollment of inmates into various categories of learning at the various prisons schools.

“We are indeed happy with the establishment of the new NOUN centre at the Kirikiri Prison, with state-of-the art facilities such as ultra modern and well stocked library, computers and air conditioners,” he said.

Giving a breakdown of the statistics of the inmates from the various facilities, he said that 91 of the inmates were from the Ikoyi Prisons, 12 from the Female Prisons, 14 from from the Medium and 40 from the Maximum Prisons.

Cyriel Dessers: Belgian-Born Striker Vows To Score ‘Goals’ For Super Eagles If Invited

Cyriel Dessers, a Belgian professional footballer, who currently plays as a forward for FC Utrecht in the Dutch Eredivisie, has declared that he would bring more “goals” if handed an invitation to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Born to a Belgian dad and Nigerian mother, the FC Utrecht striker, who has never hidden his desire to play for the Super Eagles, disclosed in a chat with The Punch that his dream is to one day play for the three-time African champions; wear the “green and white jersey” while putting smiles on the faces of Nigerians.

See excerpts below:

The NFF has opened doors to players with Nigerian roots to play for the Super Eagles. Are you still considering playing for Nigeria or would prefer to bid your time for Belgium, where you were born?

It would be a big honour to play for Nigeria and it would be a no-brainer for me. I was born and grew up in Belgium, but when I look in the mirror or to my character, I can see that I’m Nigerian/African. My dream has always been to represent Nigeria, wear the green and white jersey and put smiles on the faces of Nigerians. Hopefully, one day that will happen.

What can you bring to the Eagles if you are invited?

Goals, that’s what I’m good at. There is so much quality in the Nigerian squad, but I hope to get a chance and then show how I can also contribute to the team.

Can you tell us about your connection to Nigeria?

My mother is Nigerian and I still have a lot of family members in Lagos. Nigerians are wonderful people.

How much of Nigeria do you know?

I know the country and what has been going on. I’ve not been there yet, but I want to go there as soon as possible.

You have a Belgian dad but you are so intent on playing for the Eagles. Did your mum convince you?

(Laughs) Not at all, like I said, it would be an honour. This is something I want and I would make both my mum and dad proud by achieving my dream playing for Nigeria.

Nigerian Army Reacts As Soldiers Fighting Boko Haram Protest, Seize Airport

Nigerian Army Reacts As Soldiers Fighting Boko Haram Protest, Seize Airport

The Nigerian Army said calm has been restored at Maiduguri Airport seized for two hours on Sunday by riotous troops, that it described as ‘unscrupulous”.

In a statement on Monday, Onyema Nwachukwu, Deputy Director Public Relations, Operation Lafiya Dole Theatre Command, said the protest by the soldiers happened while the command was conducting a redeployment of soldiers at the Maiduguri Airport, following a directive to review troops’ deployment in Maiduguri metropolis, to reinvigorate the security architecture of the city.

“The redeployment became expedient after a recent assessment of the security situation by the Theatre Command. Regrettably however, a few of the troops who had misunderstood the development and erroneously assumed it was going to negatively affect their rotation from the theatre of operation became agitated and reacted by firing into the air.

“Calm has however been restored, as the Theatre Commander, Major General Abba Dikko has promptly taken charge of the situation after addressing and admonishing the troops,” Mr Nwachukwu, a colonel said.

“The Theatre Command undoubtedly considers this ugly incident quite regrettable and appropriate measures are being taken to forestall a recurrence”, he added.

NAN reports that the aggrieved soldiers claimed they had overstayed and were resisting redeployment to Marte, one of the towns liberated by the military several years ago from the control of Boko Haram terrorists.

The protesters are part of the special force deployed to provide air defence and enhance security at the airport.

The troops barricaded some section of the airport and fired shots in the air, causing pandemonium, as hundreds of pilgrims waiting to be airlifted to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj, scampered for safety..

One of the protesting soldiers who spoke under condition of anonymity, said the planned deployment was against the directives by the Army Headquarters.

“The army special forces deployed to the airport were not trained to engage in ground battle rather trained to provide air defence.

“Our task is to provide air defence. Alas, special forces trained to fight ground battle are stationed in Maiduguri and we are deployed to go and die in Marte”.

Another soldier lamented that the troops have overstayed in the Northeast fighting Boko Haram, despite the rotation order by the military authorities.

He said many of them have spent over three years in the battle field.

“Some troops of Operation Lafiya Dole were deployed and worked for over three years in the theatre and not rotated as against the directives by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai.

“The command is directed to redeploy soldiers back to their bases after spending stipulated time in the theatre of operation.

“We have spent over three years in the northeast and we should be transferred out of the northeast and not within.”

Jurgen Klopp Not Surprised By Naby Keita Performance Vs West Ham

Featured Image

Jurgen Klopp has insisted that he was not surprised by summer signing Naby Keita’s performance on his Premier League debut for the club Vs West Ham

Naby Keita drew plaudits from fans and pundits alike with his display during the 4-0 triumph over West Ham United at Anfield

Klopp was eager to highlight the performances of other players too, but acknowledged that Keita has settled quickly into life at the club following his move from RB Leipzig.

“It was a good performance, of course. In just six weeks in, I don’t make the difference between a new player and another player. For me, it’s exactly the similar importance to me that Milly (James Milner) and Gini [Wijnaldum] are ready to make the next stage in their development as well,” Klopp told reporters.

“Naby is in because he is a really good footballer, and I’ve said from the beginning that he has obviously settled really quickly. It is a similar style of play, he plays a similar position that he was in at Leipzig. He can play different positions obviously but I think number eight is his best at the moment. So that’s all cool.

“He has a lot of help from the players around him today, with Sadio [Mane] working really hard, and the same with Gini and Milly and Robbo (Andy Robertson) in this case. I’m pleased absolutely but that’s what we expected.”

Lagos Light Rail To Commence Operation In 2022

Lagos Light Rail To Commence Operation In 2022

The Lagos State Government has said the light rail project between Mile 2 and Marina will begin passenger operation in 2022.

The mass transit rail project called the Blue Line awarded to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation had suffered many delays due to paucity of funds and other challenges.

However, the state government on Sunday said that after a comprehensive review of the project, it had approved a road map proposed by its consultants to complete the civil infrastructure as well as the operation and maintenance infrastructure needed for the commencement of passenger operation in 2022.

According to a statement by the Assistant Director, Corporate Communication at the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, Kolawole Ojelabi, the state government had engaged consultants to carry out a technical review and due diligence on the implementation of the project, which substantially focussed on civil work, and reported back to government that operation of the first phase could only commence in 2022.

“Following the report, Alstom SA France, who are experienced international railway systems aggregator and rolling stocks manufacturer, with over 100 years of railway experience covering 60 countries, was engaged to review the report of the consultant. Alstom SA agreed with the submission of the consultant that the first phase of the rail project could only become operational in 2022 based on proposed funding pattern,” it stated.

The statement added that “For this purpose, a track length of about 3.0km from Iganmu station to National Theatre will be electrified.

“This operation would be done with the rolling stocks already supplied for the Blue Line project.

“This phase would allow the completion of all the preliminary work that would lead to the financing of the main work in phase two.

“Phase one will be fully financed by the Lagos State Government through Internally Generated Revenue.”

Arsenal Manager Unai Emery Defends Decision To Start Petr Cech Over Bernd Leno

Featured Image

Unai Emery has defended his decision to start Petr Cech ahead of Bernd Leno for Sunday’s defeat to Manchester City.

Petr Cech endured a  very mixed performance against the champions, making a fine double-save to deny Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte before thwarting Sergio Aguero when one on one, but also failing to get close to Raheem Sterling’s opener and looking unconvincing when trying to play out from the back.

Bernd Leno had widely been expected to be Arsenal’s first-choice keeper this season  but Emery was pleased with what he saw from Cech.

“We want competence with the goalkeeper and the other players in the squad. The pre-season offered the same chances for all the goalkeepers,” he told reporters.

“Petr Cech had a very good pre-season. Today I think he played well also and he has this experience to defend our goal.

“Leno is starting with us, working very well and also played well in pre-season. But he can wait and arrive in his moment.”

PDP Alleges Fresh Conspiracy To Arrest, Impeach Saraki, Ekweremadu

PDP Alleges Fresh Conspiracy To Arrest, Impeach Saraki, Ekweremadu

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Sunday, alleged that it has uncovered a fresh plot by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and “the cabal in the Buhari Presidency to use compromised security agencies and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to invite, arrest and detain Senate President Bukola Saraki and Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu.”

The major opposition party also claimed that the persistent request by the presidency and the leadership of the ruling party for the legislature to reconvene and consider the INEC budget was a ploy to impeach the two principal officers.

In the party’s words, PDP had unraveled fresh facts confirming that “the pressure by the Presidency for the reconvening of the Senate was out of a sinister motive and not for any emergency in the approval of the budget of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2019 election”.

The PDP spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan in a statement he issued in Abuja said the fresh plot was to detain the two presiding officers.

The statement read: “It is part of renewed design to keep them out of circulation, ahead of Senate resumption, so as to enable the heavily induced APC senators, who are now in the minority, to throw up two of their members as Senate President and Deputy Senate President respectively on the excuse that Saraki and Ekweremadu failed to show up for proceedings in the Senate.

“The PDP notes that the new plot to cage Saraki and Ekweremadu, in devilish rehash of the Tuesday July 24, 2018 hostage-taking and invasion of their official residences by security agencies is coming after the August 7, 2018 failed attempt to use security forces to take control of the leadership of the Senate.

“Apart from plots to arrest and detain Saraki and Ekweremadu, the PDP has also been made aware of plans to use the EFCC and security forces to clamp down on their family members, including their wives and siblings as well as close associate, all in the effort to weaken their resolve.”

“PDP was further informed that contrary to claims by the APC and the Presidency, INEC actually submitted the budget to the presidency since February 2018, only for the Presidency to submit it to the National Assembly in July when the legislature was already going on recess; with a view to enmesh it in a needless controversy.

“Furthermore, the PDP counsels Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to stop acting saint, as Nigerians are aware that he is part and parcel of the actors behind the sordid developments playing out in the National Assembly.

“The PDP invites Nigerians and the international community to note the activities of the APC and the Buhari Presidency, which have continued to put the unity and stability of our nation as well as our hard-earned democracy under serious stress.

“In all, the PDP cautions the APC and power mongers at the Presidency to know that Nigerians have seen through their evil intentions and will continue to firmly resist them by standing for democracy and the unity of our nation at all times”.

Davido’s Producer Scammed Me!

Davido’s Producer Scammed Me!

A budding singer, Owolabi Oluwasegun, also known as X-Lyte, has accused Fresh VDM, a producer for DMW Entertainment boss and frontline act Davido of defrauding him.

Peruzzi’s Record Label Owner Claims Ownership Of Davido’s “FIA,” Other Hit Songs

The up and coming singer, who said his quest for stardom influenced his decision to feature Davido on one of his songs, disclosed that he paid Davido’s producer, who was supposed to produce the song, an undisclosed amount of money but he later refused to fulfill his promise of getting Davido to feature on his song as agreed.

In a chat with The Punch, the Babcock University undergraduate said:

“I didn’t cook up the story for publicity; I was truly scammed by DMW’s crew members. I had the impression that working with Davido would make me popular. Since I couldn’t get my money back, I felt music was the best way I could express myself. Even if I had gone to report the case to the police, I don’t think they would have done anything about it.”

“After meeting with Fresh and negotiating, he told me to pay to Kolo, another member of DMW. He then blocked me on WhatsApp and stopped picking my calls. I heard they are fond of such a thing. I recorded the song, Feature Davido, for other up-and-coming artistes not to fall victim.”

X-Lyte further revealed that “I paid money for production and to feature Davido. If you pay for a service, it should be delivered. Fresh VDM didn’t even do a production for me. If I had been scammed for featuring Davido alone I would not be this bitter; I would have ignored it.”

He added that though Davido was probably not aware of the business transaction, he doesn’t want a refund but for Davido to jump on his song.

“Davido was not aware I paid money. But when I went to their house, I saw Davido. He even shared the song on Instagram and Twitter. I don’t need a refund; I just want to feature Davido. My style is similar to Davido’s style and I like his music.”

It is understood that when Davido stumbled on the music video on social media, he shared it on Instagram and Twitter, calling the attention of Fresh to it.

He captioned the video clip, “this is the funniest thing I’ve seen all year. Fresh VDM, you are wanted.”
