“Beast Of No Nation” Star Seen Begging For Money On The Streets Of Accra

Emmanuel Nii Adom Quaye, the young man who is popularly known for his role as “Strika” in the ‘Beasts of No Nations’ movie, is said to have ended up a beggar on the streets of Accra despite starring in the internationally acclaimed movie.

The teenager from Ghana starred alongside Abraham Attah (who is now famous) and Idris Elba who were undoubtedly the stars of the movie.

Unlike his fellow actor Attah (Agu), who has since shot to fame, Adom Quaye was seen on the streets of Ghana begging for money.

And it took a facebook user to find him.

In a post on Facebook, Caleb Boye narrates how he met Strika while he was begging to make ends meet, when he probably should be in school for a boy his age.

Boye wrote, “I am sad this morning. I was heading to the Ghana Institute of Journalism campus and I met [Strika]. You would ask who is [Strika]? [Strika] starred in the movie Beast of No Nations. The said film that made Abraham Attah. Today I met him begging for money on the road leading to GIJ. I called him and brought him to campus. Speaking to him, he tells me he now works with a gentleman who sells yam at Agbogbloshie Market. He stays with his grandma at North Kaneshie.”

This is coming as a shock since Kobina Amissah-Sam in an interview with MzGee on Hitz FM in 2016 said all the kids who took part in the movie have been well taken care of.

He is reported to have said “They have not been forgotten, they have really been taken care of. They are not lacking now as they used to so everything is cool for them now. He has never been in school before but after the production, producers of the movie felt that they have to put him in school.

“I don’t think that it is Netflix that is taking care of them, it is the producer who wants to help the kids. He is taking care of the three kids, Abraham, Striker and there is one other guy called Justice who stepped on Agu’s head when he was caught”.

However, in the chat, Strika revealed that his relationship with his co-actor, Attah hasn’t been the same ever since he relocated to the USA.

“The way he [Abraham Attah] now behaves is not good. The way he talks; the way he replies is not good. He will be shouting on you and all stuff, I don’t know if it’s because he has travelled outside,” he said.

Adom Online also reports that Strika alleges that after shooting the movie, a producer named Kofi Robert popped up and requested to keep his monies into a bank account until he turned 18, but that hasn’t happened even though he is approaching 19.

Hazard To Sign New £300,000-A-Week Chelsea Contract On One Condition

A report is saying that Eden Hazard’s decision over whether to sign a new Chelsea contract worth a reported £300,000-a-week will rest on whether the club reaches next season’s Champions League.

Eden Hazard Finally Drops Hint About Leaving Chelsea

This is after the Belgium international hinted during the summer he could leave Stamford Bridge – but the arrival of Maurizio Sarri as manager eventually led to him staying.

Chelsea failed to make Premier League top four last season and will not be playing in Europe’s elite competition this season.

Meanwhile, it is understood that the Chelsea forward, whose current contract runs until 2020, has given the club one condition to signing a new contract and according to the Times UK, Hazard will only extend his deal with the Blues only if they qualify for next Champion League.

The Daily Mail understands Hazard is interested in a move to either Real or Barcelona and remains keen on playing in Europe’s premier club competition.

Chelsea Coach Sarri Breaks Silence On Hazard

Central to Hazard’s decision to move to Chelsea in 2012 was to play in the Champions League on a regular basis but it could now be that he has to leave the club to continue to fulfill that ambition.

The Chelsea attacking player has not been offered an improved contract since he rejected an extension beyond 2020, his father said in December.

Chelsea were in a similar contract stand-off with Thibaut Courtois and were forced to sell the goalkeeper this month as he had a year left on his deal.

Spotify Responds To Nicki Minaj’s Claims That It Didn’t Promote Her Album “Queen”

Featured Image

Spotify has responded to Nicki Minaj’s accusations regarding the company’s treatment of her new album “Queen,” which she claims helped deprive her of a No. 1 album, because she’d done a radio show on Apple Music.

In a statement issued today (Aug. 21), a Spotify representative defended the platform’s promotion of the project and claimed no ill will toward the “Chun-Li” rapper.

#VMAs: Camila Cabello, Nicki Minaj Win Big At The 2018 MTV Video Music Awards (See List Of Winners)

The statement comes in response to Nicki’s tweets on Sunday (Aug. 19) accusing the company of retaliating against her for debuting Queen on her Beats 1 radio show on Apple Music by retracting planned promotion on Spotify.

“Spotify said that Apple tweeted fans advising #Queen was up & therefore they had to teach me a lesson,” she tweeted. “They took away my promotion they had promised for the 1st [couple] days b/c of this.”

However Variety reports that a representative for the streaming service denied what the rapper said as he wrote:

“Spotify supported Nicki Minaj with a Times Square billboard, a host of the largest playlists, New Music Friday and the new music release shelf. Her song ‘Bed’ actually saw an increase based on the promotions put behind the campaign. The company continues to be big fans of Nicki.”

Presidency Says Buhari Is Fit For Another Term Because He Trekked 800metres (VIDEO)

Presidency Confirms Buhari Is Fit For Another Term After He Trekked 800metres

The Presidency has confirmed that by trekking a distance of 800 metres – from the Eid praying ground in Daura to his private residence – President Muhammadu Buhari has demonstrated that he is fit to seek another term.

Garba Shehu, senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, said this in response to the critical comment Aminu Tambuwal, a presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made about Buhari.

Tambuwal had said Buhari is too old to continue in office.

According to Tambuwal, “President Muhammadu Buhari is just too old to be Nigeria’s leader, despite his integrity and impeccable character.” Tambuwal stated this during a solidarity visit of students and youth in Sokoto, last week.

“We love President Buhari and that was why we supported him in 2015 unconditionally, and while doing that, we are too sure that he will seek re-election after his first term. But when things are wrong, we have to tell him.

“We still believe in his integrity, patriotism and courage, but these are not enough for a leader.

“We all know that there is a vacuum in the government occasioned by his indisposition probably because of his old age or health condition.

“That is why Nigerians are yearning for younger ones to lead this country.’’

But Shehu advised those opposed to the president’s second term to discuss issues that are of “significance to Nigerians”.

His words: “I think there are two things here; one is to say that the president is responsive to the enormous support and commitment of his own people that had come out in their numbers to see him and he just decided that he couldn’t go on riding in a blacken vehicle and he came out and walked to the distance.”

“The second thing, he is curious that these days, one or two people who are aspiring to be president are campaigning on their youthfulness and good health.

“I think the president has done one thing today – that the issue is not how old one is but how fit is he; how healthy is he. Now that the president has proven his fitness and well-being to continue in office is a settled matter

“I think that if people want to campaign against him they should do so on issue that are of significance to Nigerians. The President is fit, he is healthy; he is good to go.”

Kompany: New Man City Cannot Get Complacent

Featured Image

Vincent Kompany is confident Guardiola’s Manchester City will not get complacent, as they aim to defend their title.

Manchester United squad of the 2007-08 and 2008-09 season, are the last two to have won back-to-back championships.

Kompany was a part of the City squad that won the title in 2012 and 2014, and is hoping they can retain their title.

“I can only say it’s different from previous years we have won the league,” the City captain told reporters.

“I think everyone has been warned enough as well: no team in the last nine seasons has been able to repeat and win the league.

“There’s been so many warnings we have had and every single time we almost have to fight against ourselves and our nature, not to fall in the same trap as the other teams have done, my teams included a few years ago.

“But I can see that everyone is training hard. There’s so much competition in the team that we have to anyway.

“If I can say one thing, you are never guaranteed to win the league. But if we can compete then we will have done something that no other team has done since the last nine years.”

Kompany has also seen no let-up in City’s desire since their record-breaking title triumph.

“Not with this team, but you never know until you have done it,” he added.

“Many players win the league for the first time and they come back and it’s something you have to feel, to see in their eyes if things have changed or not.

“I’m not saying we are going to do as well as we did last year, but if it happens that the season is going to be different then it has to be because of the other teams being stronger, not us being weaker.”

Ahmed Musa Claims Leicester City Forcefully Sold Him To Saudi Arabia Club Al Nassr

Featured Image

Ahmed Musa has revealed that he did not want to move to Saudi Arabia and claims Leicester sold him “for the money”.

Ahmed Musa was offloaded to Saudi outfit Al Nassr for what Leicester described as an “undisclosed fee”, which was believed to be around £25million.

The Foxes made around £10million profit on the 25-year-old striker after signing him for a club-record fee of around £16million from CSKA Moscow.

Musa scored just two league goals in 21 top-flight appearances for the Foxes and went back to the Russian capital on loan last January before Leicester sold him permanently this summer.

A Leicester statement read: “The Football Club would like to thank Ahmed for his contribution and wish him the very best in his future career.”

Fingers have been pointed at Musa claiming his transfer was financially motivated, but the player has hit back and said he never wanted to leave England and says Leicester forced him out of the door.

“I wanted to stay in England because that has been my dream for years but what will you do when you’re told a bid has been accepted for you? I had to move to where I know I will be celebrated,” Musa told Own Goal Nigeria, via Leadership.

“Talks have been on about how I moved for the money but nobody has considered the fact that Leicester City also sold me for the money. Transfers can only happen if both parties agree to it and that was my case.”

Wright: Mourinho Is Ruining Everything He Has Done, Slowly Becoming Wenger

Featured Image

Former Arsenal star, Ian Wright believes Jose Mourinho is fast becoming Arsene Wenger, as he is undoing all he has achieved.

Manchester United struggled to a 2-1 win over Leicester in their first game of the season.

Mourinho struggled during the transfer window and has lamented his squad is no different than the team that finished 19 points behind City last season.

A defeat to Brighton did little to help Mourinho’s situation, with former United midfielder Lee Sharpe suspecting that he will be sacked before Christmas.

And ex-Arsenal striker Wright told The Sun of the similarities between Mourinho’s current situation and that which saw Wenger leave the Gunners after 22 years.

He said: “The saddest thing of all when I look at United under Jose Mourinho? As much as I respect him as a manager, I can’t see any way it is going to turn around.

“We all know about Jose and his third-year syndrome. But, listening to him talk, it’s as though even he has accepted it himself.

“It has me screaming: ‘Come on, man. You’ll go down as one of the greats, but the way you’re acting will tarnish everything you’ve done’.

“In many ways it’s like the last days of Arsene Wenger.

“People were watching Arsenal because it was car-crash football. United are fast turning into the same.

“You can’t say there has been no progress under Jose, because there has. They’ve won a Europa League and League Cup, and last term finished second in the table.

“But that’s been to the detriment of the sort of football which has long been their mantra.

“The people upstairs can’t be happy, the fans certainly aren’t and Jose’s definitely not. And as for the players? It’s clearly not a good situation. Something really isn’t right.

“Mourinho has had a pop at players time and again, he had another go in pre-season and now finds himself having to call on some of them.

“I’m not for one second suggesting in any way they’re throwing games. But equally, you cannot tell me some aren’t thinking, ‘This serves you right’.”

The Nine Kinds Of People Opposing Buhari’s Second-Term Bid

The Nine Kinds Of People Opposing Buhari’s Second-Term Bid – Fisayo Soyombo

CLICK here to read more opinion articles

I have had an interesting week reading the different shades of social-media reactions to my piece classifying President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election supporters into nine groups. The most popular shade is that there are people supporting Buhari just because they still believe him; people in this self-created set argue that they belong to none of the nine groups. I see them quite easily, though; they’re the ninth group: the naivetés. They support the President because they honestly cannot see the red flags; if they could, they would ditch him.

This piece was written by Fisayo Soyombo. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

One of them was on my Facebook timeline last week arguing about the unfairness of blaming Buhari for the DSS invasion that cost Lawal Daura his job or for the Police’s arrest of journalist Samuel Ogundipe on trumped-up charges of document theft. It needs no explaining that long-serving political appointees are a reflection of their principals. If IGP Ibrahim Idris neither lost his job nor received strong reprimand for flouting the presidential order to relocate to Benue, and Daura received a pat on the back after previous acts of high-handedness by the DSS, the President must accept liability for their actions. In any case, in the early Buhari days, we were told ‘body language’ was working magic. When, for example, we experienced rain-induced steady electricity supply in 2015, we were told it was because ‘a new Sheriff’ was in town. The Sheriff — just because he is no longer ‘new’ — cannot escape liability for the inadequacies of his government, three years on.

The Nine Kinds Of People Supporting Buhari For A Second Term

Still, to escape arrest and prosecution for hate speech, let’s create a tenth group, The Loyal Buhari Supporters, for the Buharists claiming not to have been represented in the nine groups. Buhari’s supporters asked for a similar list of the kinds of people averse to their man’s second-term ambition. Let’s shoot straightaway!

The Eminently Corrupt Elements (ECE): Let’s not have any argument about this: there are corrupt elements all over the country’s political space, and they’d give anything to terminate Buhari’s Aso Rock stay in 2019. Many — not all — of them belong to or are sympathetic to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). It would have been so easy to round these people up and scapegoat them, but many of their greedy cousins are also in Buhari’s All Progressives Congress (APC), strutting the corridors of power without fear of apprehension. Worse still, since 2015, a few ECEs have been running to the APC for cover, and are surprisingly being welcomed with open arms.

The PDP Loyalists (TPL): These are the die-hard PDP apologists. Even if Buhari constructs an underground rail system in Lagos to at once ease the city’s notorious traffic congestion, they will never support his re-election quest.

The People Out of Government (POG): They have tasted power for years — some of them for decades — but were suddenly left licking their wounds in 2015 following Buhari’s victory at the polls. People in this class have no solid life out of government; they have been miserable since 2015 and can’t wait for another taste of power.

The Anyone But Jonathans (ABJ): In 2015, they didn’t exactly fancy Buhari — but the Goodluck Jonathan government was extremely inept and utterly corrupt; it failed to inspire hope. In truth, it was important to boot Jonathan out of office. But this group thought ‘Anyone But Jonathan’ could do it. On the first they were right, but on the second they weren’t. These days, they can’t even stand Buhari. Some of them have learnt from experience; they want Buhari out in 2019 but are circumspect about whom to vote for this time.

The Anyone But Buharis (ABB): These are the go-and-get-your-PVCs lot. They are about to repeat the mistake of the ABJs. They haven’t been impressed with Buhari’s first term and they want him out at all costs, regardless of whoever takes over from him.

The Lesser-Evil Apostles (LEA): In another world, these people wouldn’t have voted for Buhari in 2015. But they knew only Buhari and Jonathan were capable of winning the election; and although they ordinarily would have had neither, they knew they had to pick one of the two — whomever they considered the lesser evil. Can anyone blame them? Even when the revered London-headquartered magazine-format newspaper, The Economist, endorsed Buhari seven weeks before the 2015 election, it did “with a heavy heat”. After noting that “there are no good options”, it picked Buhari as the “least awful”. In its conclusion, it said: a “former dictator is a better choice than a failed president”. Now, the LEAs have discovered that even The Economist was wrong to say there were no good options; there was, in fact, no good option at all. There is just one worry, though: the LEAs are genuinely troubled that the 2015 election could repeat itself, that the go-and-get-your-PVC syndrome could lead to a repeat of the 2015 scenario in 2019.

The Anti-Buhari Converts (ABCs): These people are currently anti-Buhari but this had never been the case. Some had followed him for years, others for decades. From Buhari’s first election loss in 2003 to the last in 2011, the people in this class stood by him, mourned with him, shed tears with him and, like him, hoped that he would succeed where others had failed should he ever taste power. To their dismay, more than three years of Buhari’s presidency have been typified by economic downturn, job loss, insecurity, executive arrogance and insouciance, one-sided anti-corruption war and frequent presidential absenteeism.

The Flexile Realists (TFRs): These are the people who, regardless of party affiliation, gave Buhari an honest chance to win their 2019 vote. They are people who can see beyond the façade of the “historic transition and political nurturing” being created by Bola Tinubu’s admittedly impressive speech writer or the grand impression of national prosperity being propagated by the President’s social-media army. They understand that you cannot extra-judicially jail Sambo Dasuki yet harbour a Babachir Lawal in your cabinet for so many months while claiming to be fighting corruption; they know that you can’t profess to run a government of integrity yet retain a Minister who has thus far failed to defend allegations of forgery for which lawmakers have reportedly blackmailed her into releasing state funds. The people in this class want Buhari out but are also very worried by the lack of credible alternative to Buhari’s credibility-shy government.

The Nigeria Fanatical Association (NFA): They are the Nigeria fanatics. This group is a mix of people who both supported and never supported Buhari. Nigeria first, the latter disabused themselves of their anti-Buhari sentiments the moment the retired soldier became the President. But going forward, the choices are pretty easy: how, for example, can a man who is not even in control of his own government be asked to run Nigeria for a further four years? How can a man whose first term has been punctuated by lengthy medical vacations not understand that 2019 is the perfect time to take a deserved rest? They bore it all when the Buhari government raised pump price of petrol from N87 to N145/litre in 2016 with the promise of competition-fuelled lowered prices over time, which never came, but they were rewarded with extensive spells of fuel scarcity during which the President ignored the pains of his people. People in this group are neither APC nor PDP. In fact, they want Buhari out in 2019 but would have a rethink should APC present Osinbajo. They do not want to retry the tested-and-failed PDP and are wondering if 2019 hasn’t come too soon for any of the ‘lesser’ parties to gatecrash the PDP-APC hegemony.

So, dear Buharist, when next you run into someone who doesn’t share your re-election excitement, don’t get mad at them. Instead, direct your anger at the President, knowing now — in case you didn’t — that more than half the opposition to his ambition has nothing to do with corruption but with his shortcomings. Like the previous piece, this list is not exhaustive. Buhari’s opponents who see no place for themselves here can create a tenth or eleventh or twelfth group.

Soyombo, former Editor of the TheCable and the International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR), tweets @fisayosoyombo

“I Won’t Surrender To Corruption” – Buhari Vows In Eid-El Kabir Message To Nigerians

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday assured that he would never surrender to corruption, in his Eid-el Kabir message to Nigerians.

According to him, no amount of criticism and hatred will make him relent in the war against corruption, insisting that doing that is a “betrayal of public trust”.

In his Eid-el Kabir message to Nigerians made available to journalists by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President further said fighting corruption was a task that must be done in order to protect the larger interests of the ordinary Nigerians whom he said were the worst victims of diseases, poverty, malnutrition and other afflictions.

The President said surrendering to corruption was not an option because it destroyed society and progress of nations.

“Even if some people hate you for fighting corruption, you should not chicken out from the task as a leader because doing so is a betrayal of public trust,” he said.

The President explained that religion was a major factor in influencing human behaviour towards good conduct and action, adding that people have forsaken their religious beliefs in the pursuit of selfishness, greed and corruption.

Buhari assured Nigerians that the country’s economic challenges were temporary, saying the people’s welfare is the focal point of his administration’s change agenda.

He urged Nigerians to rise above personal, group, sectarian and other interests, and promote harmony and tolerance in dealing with one another.

The president urged Muslims to use the Eid-el Kabir for sober reflection and self-examination, and strive to be good ambassadors of their religion by upholding high moral values.

“We must sacrifice for others and remember always those who are less fortunate than ourselves,” the president said.

Meanwhile, President Buhari is billed to celebrate this year’s Eid-el Kabir with his kinsmen in his home town, Daura, Katsina State today.

Saraki Reveals Why Tinubu ‘Doesn’t Like Him’ In Explosive Statement

Saraki Reveals Why Tinubu ‘Doesn’t Like Him’ In Explosive Statement

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has written a long and explosive statement and in it he explained why the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, ‘doesn’t like him.’

According to him, “my uncertain and complex relationship with Tinubu has been continually defined by the event of 2014 when myself and other leaders of the APC opposed the Muslim-Muslim ticket arrangement about to be foisted on the APC for the 2015 polls.”

Saraki said this in a statement on Monday, in response to Tinubu’s statement a day earlier in which the APC national leader accused the Senate President of defecting because of his presidential ambition.

Tinubu Reveals Why Saraki, Tambuwal Dumped APC

Read Saraki’s full statement below:

*The Bola Ahmed Tinubu Rhetoric: My Response, by Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki*

I have always restrained from joining issues in the media with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and this is based on my respect for him. However, I will not allow him to create a wrong, false and mischievous impression about the reasons for my decision to exit the All Progressives Congress (APC) and present his prejudice as facts for public consumption.

I have been consistent in my complaints to all leaders of the APC, including Tinubu, that a situation where the National Assembly is not constructively engaged or carried along in key policy decisions, particularly those that will eventually require legislative approval, is not in the best interest of the nation.

No genuine leader of the legislature will be comfortable that the Presidency will simply write a terse letter to the National Assembly on key issues which the federal legislature is expected to later deliberate upon and give its approval. The Buhari administration consistently treats the legislature with contempt and acts as if the lawmaking body should be an appendage of the Executive. To me, this is unacceptable.

In the same way, I find it very objectionable that many stakeholders who worked strenuously to get the administration into office have now been excluded in the government and not consulted on key decisions as necessary and expected. In fact, some of them are treated as pariahs. A party that ignores justice, equity and inclusion as basic pre-conditions for peace, unity and stability cannot sustain its membership and leadership.

Let me redirect the attention of the former Governor of Lagos State to the aspect of my July 31, 2018, statement announcing my exit from APC in which I emphasized that the decision “has been inescapably imposed on me by certain elements and forces within the APC who have ensured that the minimum conditions for peace, cooperation, inclusion and a general sense of belonging did not exist”.

In that statement, I further noted that those APC elements “have done everything to ensure that the basic rules of party administration, which should promote harmonious relations among the various elements within the party were blatantly disregarded.

All governance principles which were required for a healthy functioning of the party and the government were deliberately violated or undermined. And all entreaties for justice, equity and fairness as a basic precondition for peace and unity, not only within the party, but also the country at large, were simply ignored, or employed as an additional pretext for further exclusion.

The experience of my people and associates in the past three years is that they have suffered from alienation and have been treated as outsiders in their own party. Thus, many have become disaffected and disenchanted. At the same time, opportunities to seek redress and correct these anomalies were deliberately blocked as a government-within-a-government had formed an impregnable wall and left in the cold, everyone else who was not recognized as “one of us”. This is why my people, like all self-respecting people, would do, decided to seek accommodation elsewhere”.

Tinubu himself will recall that during the various meetings he had with me at the time he was pursuing reconciliation within the APC, I raised all the above issues. I can also vividly recall that he himself always expressed his displeasure with the style of the government and also mentioned that he had equally suffered disrespect from the same government which we all worked to put in office. I also made the point that whatever travails I have gone through in the last three years belong to the past and will not shape my decisions now and in the future.

However, during those meetings, the point of disagreement between Tinubu and I is that while I expressed my worries that there is nothing on ground to assure me that the administrative style and attitude would change in the next four years in a manner that will enable us to deliver the positive changes we promised to our people, he (Tinubu) expressed a strong opinion that he would rather ‘support a Buhari on the hospital stretcher’ to get a second term because in 2023, power will shift to the South-west. This viewpoint of Tinubu’s was not only expressed to me but to several of my colleagues. So much for acting in national interest.

It is clear that while my own decision is based on protecting the collective national interest, Tinubu will rather live with the identified inadequacies of the government for the sake of fulfilling and preserving his presidential ambition in 2023. This new position of Tinubu has only demonstrated inconsistency — particularly when one reviews his antecedents over the years.

Again, let me reiterate my position that my uncertain and complex relationship with Tinubu has been continually defined by the event of 2014 when myself and other leaders of the APC opposed the Muslim-Muslim ticket arrangement about to be foisted on the APC for the 2015 polls.

It should be noted that he has not forgotten the fact that I took the bull by the horns and told him that in the interest of the country, he should accept the need for the party to present a balanced ticket for the 2015 General Elections in terms of religion and geopolitical zones. Since that time he has been very active; plotting at every point to undermine me, both within and outside the National Assembly.

It is a surprise to me that Asiwaju Tinubu is still peddling the falsehood about the fact that my defection is about automatic ticket and sharing of resources.

Members of the public will recall that when the issue of my decision to quit APC came to the fore and many APC leaders were holding meetings with me, a newspaper owned by the same Tinubu published a false report about the promise of automatic tickets, oil blocks and other benefits. I immediately rebutted their claims and categorically stated that I never discussed any such personal and pecuniary benefits with anybody. My challenge that anybody who has contrary facts should come forward with them still remains open.

It should be known that Democracy is a system that allows people to freely make their choices. It is my choice that I have decided to join others to present a viable alternative platform for Nigerians in the coming elections. Tinubu and leaders of the APC had better respect this decision or lawfully deal with it. As for me, Allah gives power to whom He wishes. Human beings can only aspire and strive to fulfil their aspirations.

Jesus: I Can Play Alongside Aguero

Featured Image

Brazil and Manchester City star, Gabriel Jesus has insisted that he can play with Sergio Aguero.

Guardiola deployed Aguero as a lone striker in their opener, but tinkered with his tactics against Huddersfield, fielding both his attackers.

The Spaniard was rewarded with six goals from his attackers, with Manchester City winning 6-1.

Aguero helped himself to a hat-trick, while Jesus was also on target, and the latter sees no reason why Argentine power and Brazilian flair cannot continue to be used in tandem.

Jesus told City’s official website: “Our team has six players capable of playing in the attack, all of them really good.

“Pep opted for Sergio and myself, just like he has done last season and I think there was only one match where we didn’t so well – but usually when we both play together we do a great job.

“We can indeed play together!

“Sergio and I have the spirit of scoring goals and always try to finish well. I’ve started this season with the aim to get better with my finishes, to keep helping the team.

“Pep is super intelligent and he knows what the team needs and when and of course, I’ll be always at his disposal whenever I’m called upon. I’ll always keep the same spirit.

“Our season started really well against Arsenal last week, especially as it was away which obviously made it even harder.

“We wanted to start strongly at home and our team did a great job against Huddersfield – we did what we’ve been practising and were asked to do, and the result is there.”

Jesus insists the Blues are not looking to put down any early markers.

He added: “We don’t play to leave a message to anyone, just like last season.

“We play because we love doing it, we’re at a great club and we want to keep writing history for Manchester City.

“So we must carry on, repeat what we’ve been doing and see where it takes us.

“It will be tough, but this is why we’re here.”

City’s next fixture will see them head to Molineux on Saturday to take on Premier League new boys Wolves.

Arsene Wenger To Visit Liberia To Receive Honor From President George Weah

Featured Image

Arsene Wenger is to travel to Liberia this week to receive the west African country’s highest honour for his role in the development of the football career of president George Weah.

Another of Weah’s coaches in his formative years, Claude Le Roy, is also to be awarded the country’s highest honour, the government said on Monday.

“They will be honoured by the government of Liberia on August 24, National Flag Day for their role in President George Weah’s footballing career,” a spokesman said.

“Both coaches will be awarded the honour at an investiture ceremony in Monrovia.”

It was Wenger who took Weah from Africa in 1988 to play for Ligue 1 side Monaco, where the Frenchman was the manager at the time, after a tip-off from his compatriot Le Roy who first saw Weah playing in Cameroon.

Weah went on to play for AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea. In 1995 he was named World Footballer of the Year and won the Ballon d’Or, still the only African to win either award.

Leon Balogun Shocked By Manchester United’s ‘Slow’ Football

Featured Image

Brighton and Super Eagles of Nigeria defender Leon Balogun has said that he was surprised by Manchester United’s slow football in the 3-2 defeat to his new club on Sunday.

Leon Balogun was under the impression that the Premier League would be faster than the Bundesliga after leaving Mainz on a free transfer

It was a dismal effort from United and Balogun said the game would probably be played at a quicker pace when Brighton visit Anfield on Saturday. “Some of the lads have just asked me that too and I said I had expected the Premier League to be quicker, but they told me this is always the kind of game you play against United,” the Nigeria defender said. “They like to slow it down a little bit sometimes. Liverpool is going to be completely different. I know how [Jürgen] Klopp likes to play. It’s going to be a lot quicker and a lot more intense.”

Brighton restricted United to three shots on target, one of which was Paul Pogba’s consolation penalty, and Shane Duffy revealed they were happy to let Mourinho’s side have the ball in unthreatening areas.

“We know their strengths and we know we’ve had good results and performances against them before,” the Republic of Ireland centre-back said. “We know they’ve got good, quick front players so we just had to match their runs and try to let them play in front of us. It worked and I think they got a little bit frustrated and that was the gameplan.”

No Chance Liverpool Will Pay Neymar-size Transfer Fee – Jurgen Klopp

Featured Image

Jurgen Klopp spoke out against high transfer fees after Manchester United paid £89.3m for Paul Pogba in 2016, but said this summer that he had changed his mind.

Following Philippe Coutinho’s £142m departure to Barcelona, Liverpool have invested heavily this summer, signing Naby Keita, Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri and goalkeeper Alisson for a combined total of around £170m.

But asked about the possibility of Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, sanctioning a fee similar to that spent by PSG on Neymar, Klopp said: “No chance, no chance, no chance.

“We are not owned by a state like it’s the case at two big clubs. We have our limits.”

And questioned about whether Fenway could fulfil every transfer wish, Klopp said: “No. We have a conservative leadership.”

He added: “It feels like €100m back then is €500m today. When Neymar joined PSG for €222m, I shook myself.

“Back then I had an opinion, but an incredible lot has happened since. In 2017, Neymar joined Paris, Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele joined Barcelona for a lot of money, and Kylian Mbappe [joined] Paris.

“This opened the whole thing, the money’s on the market. Now, if Liverpool wants a player, the other clubs want a bit of the cake too. That’s the story.

“And you must also keep in mind that players like Mo Salah, Sadio Mane or Robert Firmino, players we bought for €30m to €40m, have a different value on the transfer market these days. That’s part of the business.”

Liverpool, who boast the world’s most expensive defender in Virgil van Dijk, paid a then world-record fee for Roma’s Alisson in July.

Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp Refuses To Discuss Premier League Title Chances

Featured Image

Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp has refused to discuss his side’s  Premier League title credentials following a great start to the 2018-19 campaign.

Liverpool have won both of their league games so far, scoring six goals and conceding none.

Liverpool’s first game of the season saw them run out 4-0 winners over West Ham United, before leaving Crystal Palace with three points and a clean sheet in a 2-0 win on Monday night.

“It’s very early. I couldn’t care less really,” Klopp told Sky Sports News when asked about the early stages of the title race. “We are not in a race with other Premier League teams each weekend.

“I was not 100% sure tonight in the first half that we would score. You have to play it as it is and be a real challenger, play ugly, do all that type of stuff. Our target is to be a difficult opponent.

“It is too strong to say anything after two match days. You can discuss whatever you want – just do it without us.”

Nigeria Avoid FIFA Suspension After Amaju Pinnick Retains Control Of NFF

Featured Image

World Football governing body FIFA has lifted a threat to suspend Nigeria from international football as the country recognised the head of its national federation.

FIFA has received assurances that “legitimate leadership” of Nigeria’s football federation is restored to power and has control of its offices.

Amaju Pinnick, who was elected head of the Nigeria Football Federation in 2014, was in a standoff with Chris Giwa, who had appealed the result and won a favourable court ruling in June 2018.

FIFA football rules prohibit interference in how elected officials run football federations under threat of teams and administrators being suspended from international games and meetings.

“The suspension of the NFF will not take effect,” FIFA said in a statement.

“FIFA received confirmations that the legitimate leadership of the NFF under President Amaju Melvin Pinnick and General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi has been given back effective control of the NFF and its offices.”

Alexis Sanchez has deleted a couple of posts from his personal Twitter page following an angry reaction from Manchester United fanbase.

Alexis Sanchez uploaded a video and series of pictures on Monday afternoon as part of a publicity drive for his first fashion collection.

The tweets were posted less than 24 hours on from United’s shock 3-2 loss at Brighton leaving many supporters to question the timing.

Both posts were deleted after around 30 minutes on the site following a backlash from United fans, while also being removed from other social media feeds.

One fan wrote: “Focus on football fella. You were a demon one time now you’re a shell of your former self. It’s tough seeing you like this.”

Another replied: “Everything that’s wrong with the modern players right there, your team just lost yesterday you know.”

Mourinho revealed the former Arsenal striker could be out for between one and two weeks, putting him at risk of missing Manchester United’s clash against Tottenham next Monday.

“Alexis was going to play but he had a little problem, so we had to decide to give an opportunity to another attacking player,” Mourinho said after the game.
