Aaron Ramsey has reportedly frustrated with how he is being portrayed during contract negotiations with Arsenal

Aaron Ramsey has spent over a decade at Arsenal but now has less than one year remaining on his deal.

Reports have suggested that an extension of the player’s contract is not edging closer and according to, Ramsey is frustrated with how the situation is being perceived.

Ramsey is yet to hold down a role in Unai Emery‘s starting lineup, with the playmaker dropped for the Premier League showdown with Chelsea last weekend.

Another report has suggested that Arsenal are not willing to meet Ramsey’s demands, further increasing his unhappiness with the situation.

Arsenal remains “confident” that they can strike a deal with the former Cardiff City youth player.

The Welsh international has also been linked with a switch to either Manchester United or Chelsea, who are said to hold an interest in the player.

Unai Emery Explains How He Wants Arsenal To Play This Season

Featured Image

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has revealed that he wants his team to have “fast control” during matches as they look for their first Premier League points of the season.

Unai Emery’s reign as Arsenal boss has started with two back to back Premier League defeats to Chelsea and Manchester City.

The Gunners will have the chance to bounce back when they host West Ham United on Saturday and Emery has again attempted to explain the type of football that he wants the Gunners to play under his leadership.

“My idea is fast control. Control in the game but the opposition they want the same. With this control you can be near to win and then know when you need to change,” Emery told reporters.

“I know we need intensity in every moment in the games. This control is to not let the opposition do their work, their play. For me, we didn’t have the control in our first two matches. Saturday is another match, tactically different. It is demanding. I want to do more, to find the way to win this match.”

CONFUSION! Lagosians Dump Third Mainland Bridge For Alternative Routes Hours Earlier To Closure Date

Lagosians Dump Third Mainland Bridge For Alternative Routes Hours Earlier To Closure Date

With barely a few hours to the closure of the Third Mainland Bridge, which is the longest and one of the three bridges from Lagos Island to the Mainland, we learned that the bridge was unusually free on Thursday morning, as many road users diverted movement to alternative routes.

The diversion from the bridge by road users was in apparent confusion to the time of closure as announced by the Lagos state government.

Here’s Alternative Routes As Lagos Shuts Third Mainland Bridge On Thursday

The federal government had earlier announced plans to shut the bridge in July but postponed the action after consulting with the state government and other stakeholders.

The Lagos State Government subsequently announced that it would temporarily close down the bridge for four days, “starting from midnight of August 23 to midnight of August 26, 2018”.

But the bridge was surprisingly free during midday of August 23, suggesting that Lagosians might have misunderstood the message, thinking the bridge would be closed by 12 a.m. of Thursday, instead of 12 a.m. of Friday – caused by the apparent ambiguity in using midnight, as contained in the message by the Lagos State Government.

Reacting to this, Sahara Reporters quoted the National Institute of Standard and Technology (NIST), physical sciences laboratory, and a non-regulatory agency of the United States Department of Commerce, as explaining that “if a date/time is referred to as at midnight on Friday, October 20th’ [or midnight of August 23 as announced by Lagos State], the intention could be either midnight, the beginning of the day or midnight at the end of the day.”

To avoid misunderstanding the time references, NIST advised that “specification of an event as occurring on a particular day at 11:59 p.m. or 12:01 a.m. is a good idea, especially legal documents such as contracts and insurance policies. Another option would be to use 24-hour clock, using the designation of 0000 to refer to midnight at the beginning of a given day (or date) and 2400 to designate the end of a given day (or date).”

Consequently, the confusion could have been better managed, had the announcement simply read “12 a.m. of August 24 till 12 a.m. of August 27, 2018”, or “11:59 p.m. of August 23 till 11:59 p.m. of August 26,” or simply use the 24-hour clock.

Vincent Kompany Vows To Remain ‘Connected’ To Manchester City For Life

Featured Image

Vincent Kompany has declared that he will be connected to Manchester City for the rest of his life, whether as an employee, ambassador or simply a fan.

Vincent Kompany saw the 10th anniversary at the club this Wednesday.

“Aside from having had some injuries, I’m lucky to be a really good athlete naturally, so I still feel mobile, I still feel strong, I feel like I’m still improving and learning about the game,” he told City’s official website this week.

“I’m enjoying the game more than I’ve ever enjoyed the game. You want to make it last as long as you can.

“I’ll be connected with City for the rest of my life, as a fan, as an employee, as an ambassador.

“Whatever City decide or I decide, it’s not something we can undo. We’re tied to each other for life.”

Kompany, being around as long as he has, also noted the major developments that have seen the Sky Blues cement themselves as one of Europe’s major forces.

“When City came calling I researched the club, but when I first came through the door it was weird, it was a big club but at the same time a small club,” he continued.

“A big club because of the history, the fanbase, the stadium, and small because of the state of the facilities where we were training, the culture a little bit towards winning, and the lack of pressure there was.”

Lyon Manager Bruno Genesio Admits Nabil Fekir Has Been Affected By Failed Liverpool Move

Featured Image

Lyon manager Bruno Genesio has revealed that Nabil Fekir has struggled somewhat to deal with the fallout of his highly publicised failed transfer to Liverpool this summer.

As quoted by the Evening Standard, manager Genesio has spoken to the press on Fekir’s current situation, admitting the difficulties the player has had in accepting what happened.

He said: “It is never easy accepting this kind of situation when you are very near to signing for a club where you want to go,

“Where you want to reach another level and to give a boost to your career.

“But as I said, it could have been worse for him. He is at Lyon, at a strong club, he is captain of a team who plays in the Champions League.

“This could be a very important season for Nabil. I haven’t seen any attitudes or signs that make me think he won’t live up to his role the way he did last year.”

Fekir looks set to make his competitive return for Lyon against Strasbourg on Friday.

“Nabil is ready to start the match and to put in at least an hour of very high quality,” added Genesio.

“It was better to take our time with him, even if we would have liked to have had him with us from the start of the season. He wasn’t ready physically.”

Brighton & Hove Albion Defender Shane Duffy Hails Leon Balogun’s Impact At The Club

Featured Image

Brighton defender Shane Duffy has revealed that he has been left impressed by Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun.

Leon Balogun arrived at the Amex Stadium earlier this summer, and the centre-back played the majority of the game as Brighton registered a 3-2 success over Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

Shane Duffy partnered Lewis Dunk throughout last season, but the Republic of Ireland international has suggested that Balogun has not arrived at the Seagulls to make up the numbers.

He told The Argus: “He [Balogun] was great. He fitted straight in. He’s a big character in the changing room already.

“You can tell. He’s got a big voice and he’s experienced. He’s played in big games against big players. That’s why we bring in players like that, in case something happens, injuries and suspensions, and they push us.”

Serena Williams Steals The Spotlight In Forbes List For Highest-Earning Female Athletes (See Top 10)

23-time Grand Slam champion, Serena Williams, has topped the Forbes list for the highest earning female athletes – in a list that is dominated by tennis players.

While eight of the top 10 highest earning female athletes are tennis players, the list revealed that Williams earned just $62,000 (£48,050) from prize money during the past year – owing largely to her 14-month break to have a baby – but made $18m (£13.95m) through endorsements.

Williams, who will try to equal Margaret Court’s record of 24 grand slam titles when she competes at the US Open in New York, earned twice as much off the court as any other female athlete, according to Forbes.

George Clooney, Dwayne Johnson Top World’s Highest-Paid Actors 2018 List

George Clooney on Wednesday, August 22, climbed to the top of an annual list of the world’s highest-paid actors, earning an estimated $239 million between June 2017-June 2018, thanks largely to the sale of his tequila company.

The Oscar-winning actor, 57, who topped Forbes‘ annual ranking of Hollywood’s highest-paid actors, surpassed Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson” who came in at No. 2.

It is understood that a huge portion of Clooney’s cash flow comes from selling his Casamigos Tequila company for $1 billion which occurred in June 2017.

“We never planned on starting a tequila company,” Clooney told Good Morning America of how he and business partners Rande Gerber and Mike Meldman sold the company. “You know, we made Casamigos just for us to drink. Once we did launch the company, we thought, ‘Hey, if we could sell a bottle or two, great. If not, at least we still get to drink our own tequila.”

He added, “So, four years later when we’re offered a billion dollars to sell the company, yeah, we were kind of shocked.”

The Rock came in second place with an estimated $124 million, earning large sums of money from films such as Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Skyscraper.

Forbes says his large social media following of 113 million followers has looped him to leverage deals as well.

“Social media has become the most critical element of marketing a movie for me,” Johnson told the magazine. “I have established a social media equity with an audience around the world that there’s a value in what I’m delivering to them.”

p class=”p-text”>Below are the remaining highest earning actors:

3. Robert Downey Jr., 53, scored $81 million from his portrayal of  Iron Man in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and “Avengers: Infinity War.”

4. Chris Hemsworth, 36, pocketed $64.5 million as Thor in Marvel movies, including “Thor: Ragnarok” and “Avengers: Infinity War.”

5. Jackie Chan, 64, earned $45.5 million after starring in six movies in 2017, including “The Lego Ninjago Movie.” His earnings also included money from endorsements and his own chain of movie theaters in China.

Together, the world’s ten highest-paid actors tallied $748.5 million between June 1, 2017, and June 1, 2018, before fees and taxes.

OAU Wields Big Stick On 6 Students For Cultism

In an attempt to affirm its displeasure against cultism, the management of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, has announced the suspension of six undergraduates of the university for being members of a cult group.

The announcement was contained in a circular issued by the Registrar of the university, Mrs. Margaret Omosule and made available to newsmen in Osogbo on Wednesday by the Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr. Abiodun Olanrewaju.

Buhari To Launch Largest Brewery In West Africa Next Tuesday

In the circular, Omosule said the university suspended the students following their alleged confession to the police that they were members of some proscribed groups.

The registrar further stated that the suspension action was taken because the students violated the oath they made during their matriculation.

The registrar said that the university received an information in July, 2018, that two students of the institution, were forcefully initiated into cultism outside the university campus.

She said that the security unit of the university swung into action and, after a thorough preliminary investigation, 12 students were apprehended and handed over to the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Police to assist in investigating the matter.

Her words: “After the investigation of the suspected students by the Nigeria Police, the university on 20th August, 2018, received a detailed report of the Police findings, where it was confirmed that six students of the university had admitted their membership of proscribed groups, thus breaching their Matriculation Oath, Code of Conduct and other pertinent University regulations.

“The management hereby uses this medium to assure the university community and all other stakeholders, most especially the students that adequate measures have been put in place to secure lives and property and ensure a peaceful environment for all residents on the university estate.”

“The names of the suspended students with their matriculation numbers are Onyekwusi Praise Chinemerem, ASE/2014/218; Ojo Abiodun Olamide, MCB/2012/149 and Ude John, ASE/2015/362.”

The 2016-17 champions are off to a good start, winning two of two games played in the league.

“They should be fighting for the title, but I don’t think people are [thinking that way] at the minute. To get six points from two games, it’s a fantastic start. They’ve just got to keep going.”

Asensio Uncertain About His Future At Madrid

Featured Image

Marco Asensio says he is happy at Santiago Bernabeu, but is unsure about his future with the Champions League holders.

The 22-year-old has developed into an important part of the Madrid setup in the last two seasons, winning eight trophies in that time.

Asensio was linked with Liverpool in the summer, despite having five years left on a contract he signed last September.

The Spain international says his primary goal is to stay at Madrid and win further trophies but admits he cannot guarantee what will happen later in his career.

“My first option is always to triumph at Real Madrid. After that, you never know what can happen,” he told GQ.

“Real Madrid are the most successful club in the world and from the start you know you have to be prepared and to give everything for the shirt.

“I try not to focus too much on the expectations there are of me. It’s normal for so much to be generated, because they’ve been two really good years at Real Madrid. I just hope to keep getting better.”

Klopp: Criticism Of Ozil Hypocritical

Featured Image

Jurgen Klopp has described the criticism of Mesut Ozil and Ilkay Gundogan’s photograph with Turkey president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan as hypocritical.

The pair had their allegiance to Germany called under question, after their visit to the authoritarian president. It affected the preparation of Die Meinschaft for the World Cup.

And following their group stage exit in Russia, Ozil retired from the squad and Klopp believes the situation has been blown out of proportion.

Liverpool boss Klopp, who coached Gundogan at Borussia Dortmund, told Sport1 he believes much of the discourse surrounding the divisive subject is hypocritical.

“This is a classic example of absolute misinformation and, of course, complete nonsense,” he said.

“In politics, little things have always been blown up and big things pushed away in order to continue.

“Normally, intelligent people tend to hold back because it is not easy to say the right thing. I would count myself [among those people] too. All those who have no idea are very loud in these conversations.

“I do not doubt these guys, at least about their loyalty to our homeland. The difference is that they just have one more thing [in their heritage]. Where is the problem? That’s beautiful.

“Cultural diversity, we all thought it was really cool around the 2006 World Cup. I saw these fantastic commercials where the parents of Gerald Asamoah and Mario Gomez had a barbecue party together.

“And now two guys are seduced by politically quite intelligent people to have a photo, and then have relatively few opportunities to say what they want 100 per cent right.

“That’s why I find this discussion hypocritical. Bad things happened because people were not informed properly. Even the media should not create a buzz around something like this every day. Just cool off and see the people behind it.”

Robben: I Do Not Regret Joining Bayern

Featured Image

Arjen Robben is edging closer to another season with Bundesliga champions, Bayern Munich and says joining the club was the best decision he ever made.

The retired Netherlands international started his career with Groningen, before joining PSV in 2002, he joined Chelsea in 2004 and won a brace of EPL titles, an FA Cup and two league cups.

The winger went on to join Madrid and left for Bayern Munich after two seasons in 2009, he has not looked back since and has won numerous honours.

“No, I don’t think so – but then again, yes,” Robben told Bayern Munich’s official website when asked if he thought he’d remain with the club this long. “I’m always a realist, and I know the world of football is fast-moving. It could have been different.”

However, as he recounted his journey, Robben deemed the decision to be the best one he’s made in his long footballing career.

“After my debut as a pro for Groningen I was at Eindhoven for two years. It was a big step for me in the Netherlands: to leave home at the age of 18. I went abroad when I was 20, three years at Chelsea, a big club. Then two years at Madrid.

“Then Bayern approached me and I made the decision. I was skeptical at the beginning, I didn’t know whether it was the right decision. I can now say: it was the best decision in my career.”

La Liga Players Could Strike Over US Games

Featured Image

La Liga players are considering a strike action, due to a deal to play topflight Spanish games in the United States.

Last week, La Liga announced a deal with American company, Relevant for the next 15 years, that will see two top Spain teams play in the United States.

Stars including Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos and Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets were reportedly present as the Spanish Footballers’ Association (AFE) met on Wednesday to discuss the proposals.

“The players are outraged, very surprised, and are all against it. It’s unanimous,” said AFE president David Aganzo.

“The players don’t want to play overseas. Things have to be done in a more coherent way and with common sense.

“A decision of this magnitude, that affects players, referees and fans, was taken unilaterally and is a lack of respect.

“I have information that there are certain clubs that are in favour [of strike action] and others against this, but I represent the players.

“We need to sort this out with the union, and we will tell them all of our problems. If, from then on and after a few days, they don’t answer, then we will have to solve the situation.

“We are going to try to see that it doesn’t reach that extreme. But we are willing to go right to the last option if it is necessary.”

“This agreement that La Liga has reached without consulting anyone shows a lack of respect,” added Aganzo.

“It’s not just the game as such, in terms of health and travel, it just makes no sense to have a game played in the United States and have one team have to give up a home game.

“It cannot be that a person takes a decision of a 15-year agreement, which affects many people and without consulting. We are fed up with not being valued.”

Ernesto Valverde Wary Of VAR

Featured Image

Barcelona coach, Ernesto Valverde has welcomed the video assistant referee (VAR), but is sceptical about the long-term effect it will have on football.

The technology has been faced with mixed criticism and has been introduced in major tournaments, like the last World Cup.

It will also be in use in the La Liga this season, and Valverde is looking at how it will affect football as a whole.

“The feeling is that video assistant referees and technology are here to help us, especially for justice in the penalty area,” he told the Barca website.

“But we don’t know what knock-on effects it might have.

“I wouldn’t want VAR to interrupt the flow of games. The great thing about football is that it’s so fast, there are so few interruptions. The referees certainly need help but this shouldn’t be to the detriment of the speed of the game.

“I know everyone is hanging on what happens in the area, but in the World Cup final, France scored from a free-kick that wasn’t and that decided the game. So what’s more important? I don’t know, because I am also waiting to see how it all works out.”

US Sentences FIFA Chief Jose Maria Marin To Four Years Imprisonment

The former Brazil Football Federation president José Maria Marin has been sentenced to four years in prison by a United States federal court following his conviction for corruption.

The 86-year-old, who was one of seven Fifa officials arrested at a hotel in Zurich in May 2015, was convicted of accepting bribes from sports marketing companies in exchange for contracts to broadcast tournaments such as the Copa America.

Following a six-week trial Marin was found guilty in December 2017 on six of the seven counts against him of money laundering, wire fraud and conspiratorial racketeering.

The sentencing took place in Brooklyn, New York, by US District Judge Pamela Chen.

Marin, who has already served 13 months in prison, was also ordered to forfeit $3.3m (£2.6m) and was fined $1.2m (£950,000).

The Brazilian is the first official to be sentenced following the US Department of Justice investigation into corruption at football’s world governing body.

Speaking after the ruling, Richard Donoghue, US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, said:

“Today’s sentence shows that for all their power and prestige, the soccer officials who corrupted ‘the beautiful game’ are not above the law.”

He was convicted alongside Juan Angel Napout, who led South America’s football governing body Conmebol. He will be sentenced at a later date.

Marin’s lawyers say he will appeal against the sentence.
