Sadly, Nigeria Has A Pinocchio For A Vice-President – Reno Omokri

The recent comments by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo that the administration of which he is a part of has achieved much more than the Jonathan government is another in a long line of lies that the Vice President has come to be known for.

This piece was written by Reno Omokri. The views and opinions expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of 360Nobs.com.

It beats my imagination why a man who claims to be an ordained pastor would have a habit of lying and lying so brazenly.

It is a notorious fact that the Jonathan administration outperforms the Buhari administration in every sphere of governance and in every aspect of the human development index.

I understand that the 2019 elections are just five months away and a desperate Buhari administration, like a student who has not read for his forthcoming examinations, is in panic mode, but they should please leave the good name of Dr Goodluck Jonathan out of their sordid mess.

The only way Professor Osinbajo can be correct is if he is referring to the fact that Nigeria, under their administration, has become the world headquarters for extreme poverty after overtaking India as the nation with the highest number of extremely poor people according to the World Poverty Clock and the World Economic Forum.

While former President Jonathan can point to exactly 8956 projects that he initiated, started and completed, I challenge the Buhari government to name just three projects that they have initiated, started and completed in the last three years.

The super fast 187-kilometre Abuja-Kaduna railway, which President Buhari commissioned, was built by President Jonathan. The Abuja metro, which the incumbent President also commissioned, was conceived by President Obasanjo and finished by President Jonathan. So what exactly has the Buhari administration done that has exceeded what Jonathan did?

According to UNICEF, there are 10.5 million out of school children in Nigeria with about 60% in the Northwest geopolitical zone, where President Buhari comes from. Has the Buhari administration built even one secondary school to cater for them?

So by what logic can Vice President Yemi Osinbajo say that their administration has outperformed a Jonathan government that initiated, started and completed 165 almajiri schools as well as 12 new federal universities to cater for this mammoth out of school youth bulge?

How can they say their administration, under which Nigeria suffered her worse retrogression in Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index (from 136 to 148) outperformed a government under which this nation made her best ever improvement in the CPI (from 144 to 136)

According to data published by the National Bureau of Statistics, in December of 2017, 7.9 million Nigerians had lost their jobs in the 21 months preceding that time. How can an administration with such an abysmal job record claim to have outperformed a Jonathan administration that, according to the same National Bureau of Statistics, created 6 million jobs through programmes like the YouWIN initiative, Local Content Law, Graduate Internship Scheme, Nagropreneurs and SURE-P?

Under the Jonathan administration, Nigeria was a magnet for investment and was the number one destination for foreign direct investment in Africa as rated by the Geneva-based United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (Unctad). Today, Nigeria is not even included in the top 10 in Africa.

If the current government is saying that by borrowing more money in three years than the Peoples Democratic Party borrowed in 16 years it has outperformed the Jonathan administration, then I am willing to concede that fact.

But to say that an administration that has not built even one single power station has outperformed an administration that built and commissioned the 500 megawatts Omotosho Power Plant Phase 2 with four gas turbines in Ondo State on Saturday, October 19, 2013 and also built and commissioned the 750 megawatts Olorunsogo power plant on Friday the 20th of February, 2015, is to be economical with the truth.

So widely known was the good governance of Nigeria under the Jonathan administration that at the Conservative Party Conference on October 10, 2012, the then British Prime Minister, David Cameron, said:

“Yes, we’ve been hearing about China and India for years but it’s hard to believe what’s happening in Brazil, in Indonesia, in Nigeria too.”

Can anyone in their right minds say the same about Nigeria today? That is a question our Pinocchio Vice President may very well not want answered.

Finally, let me say that the constant refrain by this administration of blaming their abysmal performance on the low price of oil is a case of a bad workman blaming his tools.

Today, crude oil averages at $74 per barrel. In 2017, the average price of crude oil was $51 per barrel. Need I remind Nigerians that the PDP government of President Olusegun Obasanjo paid off Nigeria’s entire foreign debt in 2006 at a time oil sold at less than one third what it sells today.

Sadly, the last three years has only shown that the Buhari administration promised Nigerians heaven on earth, but has literally turned Nigeria to hell on earth such that a nation that was rated by Gallup Polls as the happiest nation in the world in 2011 under former President Jonathan has dropped to being the 91st happiest nation in the world in 2018 according to the United Nations.

The Year Of Kaffy

Featured Image
To be a professional dancer, you have to work hard and constantly do what you need to in order to grow and improve your skills.
Talent is great, but it is the work we put in that really sets us apart. Kaffy is a prime example of how far determination and single-minded focus will get a person in their chosen career path.
The renowned dancer has won several awards, broken records, and put on an impressive number of shows during the course of her career, and 2018 is only different in the sense that she seems to be pushing herself even more.
 Kaffy
The year started off with Kaffy as the creative director for the Aiteo CAF Awards held in Ghana on January 5th, 2018. Choreographing one routine for a show as huge as this is quite the daunting task in itself, which makes the fact that Kaffy choreographed every performance of the night a marvelous feat. Following this, Kaffy took on more jobs during the first half of the year including operating as the Creative Director for the Soundcity MVP Awards, choreographing and starring in an ad for a Fidelity Bank campaign, and headlining the 10km Seven Up #Rundiff Lagos City Marathon.
To crown it all, the transformation of her creative passion into four thriving businesses and her pioneering spirit are some of the qualities which attracted Hennessey to offer her a three year deal for their ‘Never Stop, Never Settle’ campaign.
Kaffy
Here is an extensive list of all the amazing work Kaffy has done so far this year:
  • Performed at the Transcorp Hilton’s Arabian Nights party in Abuja.
  • Operated as the Creative Director and Choreographer for the ‘Science Student’ video.
  • Raised awareness on the dangers of tooth decay as the Fitness and Wellness Coach for Pepsodent Health Walk.
  • She was the Creative Director and Head of Costumes for Flavour Live in Enugu.
  • Opened the AY Live show on April 1st with a brilliant performance.
  • Operated as the Head Choreographer for Pepsi Refresh the Mix.
  • Performed at the Techno global spring launch on 6th April  2018.

  • Made a guest appearance at Rubbing Minds’ The Voice of a New Generation.
  • Performed at Shina Peller’s birthday party at Quilox.
  • She also gave a special performance at the Pepsi Dj Lituation Party in May.
  • Officially launched her YouTube channel!
  • She was the Ijoda Fitness and Wellness Coach for Verve Life 2.0
  • Covered La Mode Magazine’s June Edition ’Beyond Dance’.
  • Choreographed Peter Ebeano’s video shoot.
  • Worked as the Creative Director and Head of Costume for both the Tim Godfrey ‘Fearless’ concert.

  • Worked as the Creative Director and Head of Costume for Kenny Blaq’s show.
  • Choreographed all the dance routines for Adekunle Gold’s #About30 concert remotely.
It’s truly been an amazing couple of months. Kaffy is really stretching her happy feet and making an impact in the appreciation of dance as an art form. With a good four months left, one can only anticipate what more she has planned.

Nigeria Gets $26.5 Million Support From USAID

Nigeria has received $26.5 million from the U.S Agency for International Development (USAID) to support healthcare and good governance.

USAID said at the weekend that the additional support to Nigeria was made because of the country’s achievement in the development goals outlined in the bilateral Development Objectives Assistance Agreement signed in 2015,

The agreement was signed between the U.S. and Nigerian governments.

Confirming the new financial support, the Acting Mission Director, Erin Holleran, said that USAID would partner with federal and state health ministries to build stronger health systems.

He added that this is aimed at guaranteeing equitable access to quality healthcare services nationwide.

His words: “$25 million will strengthen good governance by supporting state governments’ efforts to bolster Nigeria’s Open Government Partnership commitments to improve transparency and fight corruption.

“An additional $1.5 million will support a healthier, more educated population in targeted states through the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), for a total of $26.5 million in additional assistance.”

“The additional new funding brings the total U.S. government assistance provided under the five-year Development Objectives agreement to $1.1 billion,” he said.

According to Mr Holleran, USAID is committed to assisting Nigeria because of the huge influence the nation has on the future of Africa.

“The United States believes that as the most populous country in Africa, with the largest economy on the continent, Nigeria holds tremendous influence over the future of Africa.”

“USAID is committed to partnering with the government and the people of Nigeria to address its development challenges,” Mr Holleran said.

Buhari Orders Military To Be “Ruthless” In Fighting Cattle Thieves

Buhari Orders Military To Be “Ruthless” In Fighting Cattle Thieves

President Muhammadu Buhari today lauded Nigerian troops for their service and dedication to the nation, even as he urged them to remain ‘‘ruthless’’ in the battle against bandits, cattle thieves and kidnappers.

The president gave the challenge when he addressed the 1000-strong military force assembled to check the menace of the bandits and other criminal elements at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport Katsina.

The Federal Government had, on July 29, assembled military personnel, comprising the army, air force, police and the civil defence to help in tackling the activities of the bandits and criminals in Zamfara and neighbouring states under Operations Sharan Daji and Diran Mikiya.

The bandits had been terrorising innocent rural dwellers, razing down several villages and towns across the local government areas of Zamfara, and also kidnapping for ransom.

But the president urged officers and men to keep up the good work in the results achieved in dealing with banditry, kidnapping and cattle rustling in the affected States, within the short period of the operation’s existence.

He said: ‘‘I am here and pleased at this opportunity to address you and express my pleasure and happiness as your Commander-in-Chief on your performance on the two respective operations.

‘‘Nigerians are looking up to you and us to secure the country. What is happening in the areas of operations are disgraceful. I’m very pleased with the way officers and men are firmly putting it down and I want you to be as ruthless as humanly possible. Nigerians deserve some peace.’’

The president reminded the troops that when he was elected into office in 2015 he promised the nation security, an improved economy and a commitment to fight corruption.

‘‘The country has to be secured to be managed…we have been doing our best and we depend a lot on you to do what is needed in the field. I do not want you to spare any cattle rustler, armed robber or any person who thinks he is above the law.

‘‘I commend you for the job you have been doing so far and I assure you that I will continue to be a worthy Commander-in-Chief. Thank you very much and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,’’ the President said.

IGP Directs All SARS Operatives To Wear Uniform For Identification

The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has ordered members of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) to wear police uniforms with full identification, pending the launch of new FSARS uniform.

The force spokesman, Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jimoh Moshood, said in a statement in Abuja on Friday that Mr Idris gave the order at a meeting with critical stakeholders.

Mr Moshood said that Mr Idris was represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of police in charge of operations, Habila Joshak.

He said that the meeting was convened to brief the stakeholders on the progress made so far in the overhaul of the SARS now known as Federal SARS.

The police boss said that the overhaul of SARS was beyond rhetoric as strategic reforms were being implemented.

He said that the FSARS operatives had been ordered to desist from attending to civil or commercial matters henceforth and focus strictly on armed robbery and kidnapping cases only.

According to Mr Moshood, the Commissioner of Police in charge of FSARS, Habiru Gwandu, informed the meeting that a human rights desk had been created in the 36 states of the federation and FCT.

He said that the desks would address cases of infractions against members of the public by FSARS personnel across the nation.

Mr Gwandu added that the police had engaged the services of psychologists and counsellors in the ongoing screening of FSARS operatives.

On his part, the DCP in charge of the I-G’s X-Squad, Amaechi Elumelu, said in the statement that the screening and mobilisation of FSARS operatives would not be business as usual again.

He said that FSARS operatives would undergo through rigorous orientation including human rights training among other screening processes.

Mr Elumelu said that the I-G would soon unveil the Custody Records Management System.

He explained that this system would contain the records of arrests, detentions and welfare details of suspects.

The commissioner said that this system would discourage arbitrary arrest of people and ensure that suspects were charged to court within 24 hours, in compliance with the law.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that then Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on August 14, directed the immediate overhaul of the SARS.

Jurgen Klopp has defended his U-turn regarding his decision to sell goalkeeper Loris Karius by stating that “things in football change”.

Loris Karius found himself under criticism following his mistakes in the Champions League final against Real Madrid as well as some error-strewn displays in pre-season.

Klopp initially backed Karius even as Brazil goalkeeper Alisson Becker completed his move from Roma to Anfield, but German goalkeeper now looks set to complete a loan move to Besiktas.

“There’s nothing new about Loris,” Klopp told reporters ahead of the Premier League meeting with Brighton & Hove Albion. “If it happens that’s how it goes in football, these things can happen.

“As a manager you don’t usually need much time between one game and another to get the sack, that’s how things can change. Things in football change.”

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper and captain Hugo Lloris has apologized after being charged with drunk driving and has claimed full responsibility for the actions that saw him spend several hours in police custody.

Hugo Lloris was stopped by a routine patrol in Gloucester Place around 2:20 a.m. on Friday and failed a roadside breathalyzer test.

He was subsequently taken to the Charing Cross Police Station, where he was charged for the offense of drunk driving and released on bail after a reported seven-hour stay in custody.

Lloris has since issued an apology for having found himself in the center of such an embarrassing situation for both Tottenham and himself

“I take full responsibility for my actions and it is not the example I wish to set.”

I Wasn’t Sure I Was Good Enough To Play In The Championship – Jamie Vardy

Featured Image

Jamie Vardy has revealed that he at one point believed he wasn’t good enough to play in the Championship

Vardy has incredibly made his way through the various English divisions over the course of his career – playing for the likes of Stocksbridge Park Steels, Halifax and Fleetwood Town on his way to becoming one of the top strikers in the Premier League.

Jamie Vardy has scored 63 goals in 144 top flight appearances since Leicester’s promotion in 2014, and was an integral part of his side’s shock league title win two years later.

In a revealing interview with Unscriptd, the England international opened up about how the transfer to Leicester came about, and on how he initially found it hard to adapt to life in the Championship.

He said: “There were bids accepted from Leicester, Cardiff and Peterborough. I came to my decision to sign for Leicester and I’ve been there ever since.

“When you step up the leagues, defenders are better at reading the game, better positioned, not as slow as everyone thinks a centre half should be, and that’s when I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. As soon as we got to the league, I was realising that certain stuff I was doing the year before at Fleetwood wasn’t working.

“No matter what club I was at, I’d always scored a lot of goals. And I think my first season, I think I had five to my name. It was hard to take.”

Jamie Vardy however revealed that everything changed following a chat with then manager Nigel Pearson, and that he and his coaching staff had given him the confidence he needed to pull through a challenging period in his career.

He continued: “I had a chat with the manager and his two assistants at the time – Nigel Pearson, Steve Walsh and Craig Shakespeare – and I was literally telling them that I don’t think I’m good enough for this level.

“I remember asking to be shipped back on loan to Fleetwood at one point, and I remember all three of them sitting me down and just saying: ‘we believe in you, we got you here for a reason’. That’s what I needed to hear.

“That summer, I remember knuckling down even more, and obviously trying to curb off the pitch habits as well, which deep down I knew I needed to do. Sometimes it’s just hard when things aren’t going your way – you need another way to release it all.

“I came back in the second season feeling confident, and the gaffer chose me to start in the first game, against Middlesbrough, away. I managed to get on the scoresheet in a 2-1 win, and everything in that season just started kicking on from there.

“It definitely grew me in confidence in the year, especially for myself knowing that I was at a stage the season before where I wasn’t thinking that the Championship was at my level. I was over the moon that it didn’t turn out that way, and was obviously buzzing that we managed to get promoted.”

Vardy went on to score 16 goals for Leicester in the Championship that season, and was named their Players’ Player of the Season as a result.

Italy

Antonio Conte has emerged as one of the frontrunners to replace Jose Mourinho, should the Portuguese coach leave Manchester United. Mourinho has faced intense pressure in recent weeks amid reports of growing disillusionment among the playing squad and friction between himself and Ed Woodward, the club’s executive vice-chairman, following the failure to land a centre-back in the transfer window. Several reports have linked Conte, who is out of work following his departure from Chelsea, with the job and the Italian is reportedly keen on the idea. (Calciomercato)

AC Milan are not interested in signing Claudio Marchisio. The midfielder recently left Juventus after 25 years at the club and has been linked with a host of clubs. However, while there are reportedly attractive offers from Russia and France, the 32-year-old will not be joining the Rossoneri. (Calciomercato)

Spain

Chelsea have told Atletico Madrid they will only consider selling Marcos Alonso if the Spanish club are willing to meet the Blues’ €60m (£54m) asking price. Diego Simeone is keen to add a left-back before the close of the transfer window with Filipe Luis likely to leave Atletico. However, Atleti could face stiff competition from arch-rivals Real Madrid, who are also in the market for a full-back.
