Kurt Zouma Not Giving Up On His Chelsea Career

Featured Image

Kurt Zouma said has revealed he is determined to fight for a career at Chelsea despite agreeing to join Everton on loan this season

Kurt Zouma moved to Everton on a season-long deal after talks with new Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri, but the agreement does not include an option for Everton to make his stay permanent.

And Zouma insisted that he is not yet ready to give up on his dream of becoming a regular starter at Chelsea.

“I will go back, yes,” he said. “I have always believed in myself since I started playing football at 16. I have always wanted to show myself at Chelsea since I have been there.

“I know my injuries stopped me in the way I wanted to play but injuries are part of football and I want to show people I can come back and play there. That’s why I need some game time at Everton here because they are a good team.

“The manager [Sarri] arrived late and we didn’t know what was the plan of the club. At Chelsea there were a lot of defenders. I knew I needed to play regularly so I didn’t want to stay on the bench and wait for my chance after two or three months, so that’s why I wanted to go.

“I spoke with the manager and he agreed with me. I knew at Chelsea they had five central defenders already. He plays with four at the back, so there are only two who play. I didn’t want to wait and he completely agreed.”

Mesut Ozil Racism Row Not Responsible For Germany’s Disastrous World Cup Exit – Joachim Low

Featured Image

Germany boss Joachim Low has revealed his disappointment over Mesut Ozil’s inability not personally inform him of his decision to quit international football but insisted the racism row surrounding the midfielder did not contribute to the country’s World Cup failure.

The Arsenal playmaker announced in July that he would not play for Germany again amid claims of racist treatment by the German football federation (DFB) and its president, Reinhard Grindel.

Low, whose Germany side were knocked out in the group stage at the World Cup in Russia, said Mesut Ozil’s representative had told him about the decision.

“There was never any form of racism in the Germany team,” he said. “His agent called me and informed about his retirement.

“Mesut did not call me, not to this very day. I tried to reach him several times in the past two weeks, via text message, via phone. Mesut has decided to take this path. I must accept it.

“Ozil has been my player for nine years. We’ve experienced a lot together. A few lows, but more highs. We’ve won the World Cup. This will still stay forever.

“I am still of the opinion that he was one of the best players we had in Germany in the last 20, 30 years. One day, we’ll have a conversation. I would have wished for him to inform me personally, and I was disappointed at first.”

Low added: “The issue cost us a lot of power, and nerves, because it was always there. But it was not decisive in our World Cup exit.”

Ex-Juventus Chief Luciano Moggi Claims He Would Never Have Signed Cristiano Ronaldo

Featured Image

Former Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi has claimed that he would not have signed Cristiano Ronaldo had he still been in charge.

Juventus their transfer record to sign Cristiano Ronaldo for €100 million this summer, but Moggi insists he would never have spent so much on a 33-year-old.

“In terms of marketing, it’s a sensational deal,” Moggi told Il Corriere dello Sport. “But I would never have spent such a high fee on a 33-year-old — and I would certainly not have announced it before selling Higuain, someone who scores 20 goals a season.”

Moggi, who was at the club from 1994 to 2006, also recalled how he actually “signed” Ronaldo in 2003, just before his move to Manchester United — only for the deal to fall through because striker Marcelo Salas refused to join Sporting Lisbon and then cash-strapped Juventus were unable to pay a higher fee.

“I actually signed Cristiano Ronaldo,” he added. “He was 18 and he played for Sporting Lisbon.

“I saw him and the next morning I signed the contract for 5 billion lire (£2.3m) plus our Salas, who would have received a 1b lire (£470,000) loyalty bonus.

“But then Salas preferred River Plate and Manchester United came in for Ronaldo.

“At the time, Juve were in a real crisis. We didn’t have a penny.”

Loris Karius Insists Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp Wanted To Keep Him At The Club This Season

Featured Image

Loris Karius has revealed that he had to convince Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to allow him to join Besiktas on a two-year loan deal.

Loris Karius ended last season as first choice goalkeeper after being constantly rotated with Simon Mignolet, but two high-profile errors in the Champions League final coupled with pre-season errors and the arrival of Alisson resulted to him becoming just a second/third choice at the club

Besiktas have moved to offer Karius regular first-team action until 2020, but Karius has said that Klopp was not initially open to the idea.

At his official unveiling in Turkey, the 25-year-old said: “He told me he would like to have me in the squad because he wants to have the best quality players.

“I spoke to him and asked him for my wish, it is important to me to play for Besiktas. I talked with him for a long time and he understood my situation.

“I think it was a good deal for everyone. He wished me well but he said he would have liked to keep me.”

The Turkish giants will pay an initial loan fee of £2.25million with a further £7.25m to be paid in 2020 if certain performance criteria are met by Karius.

Liverpool also have a 20 per cent sell-on clause if Karius makes the move permanent in Turkey.

Report: Jose Mourinho One Game Away From Being Sacked As Manchester United Manager

Featured Image

Jose Mourinho is reportedly just one game away from getting sacked as Manchester United manager following the Red Devils poor start to the new Premier League season.

Manchester United have lost two of their opening three games for the first time since 1992-93, the latest of which saw them lose 3-0 at home to Tottenham

Reports after the loss suggested that United board had no intention of sacking Jose Mourinho but the Daily Mail reports that chief executive Ed Woodward is now discussing the possibility of changing managers.

Woodward is reluctant to sack Mourinho, but a third successive defeat at the hands of Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday could be the final straw for the club’s hierarchy.

Players are reportedly already talking about the possibility of former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane taking over as manager

The report suggests that there is a similar feeling of inevitability around Mourinho’s future as there was for Louis van Gaal’s before his sacking in 2016.

NLC Reveals When Nigeria’s New Minimum Wage Will Be Concluded

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has assured workers in the country of the payment of the reviewed minimum wage before the end of 2018.

Court Rejects Application To Stop Saraki’s Removal

The General Secretary, NLC, Mr Peter Ozo-Esan, who gave this assurance in an interview on Tuesday, August 28, in Abuja, promised Nigerians that the new minimum wage will be implemented in September.

He further revealed that in spite of the delay caused by the Sallah break, the tripartite committee involved with the review of the wage will conclude its work on Sept. 4th and 5th.

His words: “We believe that the initial expectation that by September a new minimum wage should come on board, we think that the government still should be able to deliver that to Nigerians.

“Nigerian workers will continue to demand that from the government and as soon as this report is submitted, government should do the needful before the National Assembly because that is the process.

“We expect that the National Assembly will play its part in speedily considering the bill that will be placed before it and do everything possible for Nigerian workers to have a new minimum wage.’’

Buhari Refuses To Sign 17-Year-Old Petroleum Bill – Says “It Whittles Down His Power”

President Muhammadu Buhari has refused to grant assent to the Petroleum Industrial Governance Bill (PIGB) which was passed by the National Assembly despite over 17 years of rigorous consultations and legislative hassles on the document.

The proposed law, which was conceived to liberalise the governance structure of Nigeria’s oil industry, is one of the four bills in which the omnibous Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) was broken into by the legislature after over a decade of motion without movement.

Nigeria Speaks On Plans To Sell NLNG

Sources told The Guardian yesterday that Buhari hinged his action on the argument that the bill reduces the president’s control of an industry that contributes the largest chunk to the national economy.

“The president said those he contacted among his ministers, especially the attorney general and minister of justice, claimed that presidential powers have been passed to a technocrat who might undermine the interest of the president.”

Another source disclosed to the news outlet that the bitter politics between the presidency and the leadership of the National Assembly could be the reason the bill was rejected.

It is also feared that Nigeria might lose its membership of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), if Buhari signs the bill.

TheCable also learnt that Buhari returned the bill to the national assembly on three grounds.

  1. Buhari said the bill, if signed into law, would whittle down his power as minister of petroleum resources.
  2. He said all the ministers he consulted over PIGB refused to support his signing it into law.
  3. The president said he did not see any “fiscal content” of the bill.

It is understood that Buhari’s refusal to sign PIGB into law will be regarded as a big set-back for the reform of the oil industry after years of campaigns and controversies.

Court Rejects Application To Stop Saraki’s Removal

Court Rejects Application To Stop Saraki’s Removal

The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, on Tuesday, August 28, rejected an application seeking to suspend plans by some senators to remove Dr. Bukola Saraki as the Senate President.

Since he defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in July, calls for his removal have intensified, with some senators warning him to resign willingly or he will be forcefully ejected.

However, in an application brought before the court by two senators, Isa Misau and Rafiu Adebayo, the applicants are seeking the court to allow a motion ex-parte compelling the National Assembly members to maintain status-quo, pending the determination of their substantive application in court.

Represented in court by their lawyers Emeka Etiaba and Mahmoud Magaji, the senators mainly want the court to determine whether Mr Saraki’s defection amounts to a reason for his removal under the law in a list of applications dated August 27.

“My lord, with what is going on now, parties taking laws into their hands and disregarding processes before court. It behoves on everyone to ensure that the ship of this country does not capsize. “

“We pray for this preservative order to send a signal to those who may want to truncate the leadership of the Senate. At least, let them know that there is a subsisting order of court on the matter”, Etiaba pleaded.

But in his ruling on the applications, the presiding judge, Nnamdi Dimgba, granted the last two applications but opted to ensure an accelerated hearing of the main application, rather than allowing the motion ex-parte requested by the plaintiffs.

“I believe the proper order to make is an order of accelerated hearing of the suit so that the court can consider and determine the merits of the substantive case expeditiously.

“Even though reliefs 1, 2, and 3, are not granted, needless to say, parties have been enjoined to respect the authority of the court and not take steps that will render the matter nugatory,” Mr Dimgba said.

The judge adjourned the matter to September 6 for further hearing.

Nigeria Is Home To World’s Poorest People – Theresa May

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Theresa May, has branded Nigeria home to the “poorest people in the world”.

UK PM Theresa May Visits Buhari, Victims Of Modern Slavery In Lagos On Wednesday

The Prime Minister made the assertion while delivering a speech in South Africa, Cape Town, on Tuesday – barely a day ahead of her scheduled visit to the country.

UK Gives Nigeria £70million Stolen By A Nigerian Citizen

May, scheduled to visit Nigeria on Wednesday, added that Africa has the highest number of poor people in the world, with Nigeria being the poorest.

She said: Most of the world’s poorest people are Africans. And increasing wealth has brought rising inequality, both between and within nations. For example, much of Nigeria is thriving, with many individuals enjoying the fruits of a resurgent economy. Yet 87 million Nigerians live on less than $1.90 a day, making it home to more very poor people than any other nation in the world.

“Achieving not just growth but inclusive growth is a challenge faced by governments in the UK, Europe, North America and beyond. And as African economies become more successful, it is an issue that is being confronted here too.”

She further stated that:

“Africa is home to the majority of the world’s fragile states and a quarter of the world’s displaced people.

“Extremist groups such as Boko Haram and al-Shabab are killing thousands. Africa’s ocean economy, three times the size of its landmass, is under threat from plastic waste and other pollution. Most of the world’s poorest people are Africans and increasing wealth has brought rising inequality, both between and within nations.”
